Hiya! You reblog the occasional (very good) humans are space orcs type posts and short stories, and If I remember correctly, you also write some! You also have good taste in stories, so I was hoping I could ask for some advice?
I have a friend who wants to start dipping his toes into scifi after years of reading only fanfic/manwha, and he's asked for some recommendations for scifi where the mc (or secondary mc) is trans. I was wondering if you had any recommendations? Webseries or actual novel is also fine ^-^ Thank you!!
Thanks :)
I honestly haven't had a lot of time to read fiction in a while, but can't go wrong with Murderbot Chronicles.
I also liked Space Opera by Cat Valente (MC self identifies as gendersplat) but the prose is a bit your mileage may vary at times.
For a more YA fantasy vibe: Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas was fun
If your friend is up for something historical I also liked a short story by KJ Charles called the Rat Catcher's daughter.

The Sunbearer Trials and it's sequel, Celestial Monsters, has a gay trans guy as the man character and has, not counting Teo, like at least three other trans characters, two to which are nonbinary and a trans girl. Cemetery Boys, by the same author, Aiden Thomas, also has a gay trans boy as the main character. Highly recommend
Hi folks, I'm looking for media suggestions. Not specific on what kind of media, just anything. I just want it to have a trans guy in it who isn't background or filler, like he needs to be important.
I'd be even more interested if there are other trans people in the story too and it's not just a single trans guy.
(I already know about dead end paranormal park)

I learned about this last year and I'm happy it's happening again this year! let's read some books by trans & genderqueer authors together!
apart from reading you can participate by
donating to an organisation who push fot trans rights (especially small local groups!) or individual fundraisers to support a local trans/genderqueer person
amplifying trans & genderqueer voices by posting about which books by trans & genderqueer authors you read and leaving reviews (and positive comments on publisher's posts about releases)
buying your books by trans & genderqueer authors from queer indie bookshops or directly from the authors

March 21st-31st is the trans rights read-a-thon, and we’re highlighting a few trans books that are ALWAYS AVAILABLE to checkout from the Queer Liberation Library! that’s right, an unlimited number of people can read these at the same time - no wait, no holds!
first up: we’ve got My Body is Distant by Paige Maylott,
Tumblr media
"Part trans woman's coming-out story and part heartfelt romance, My Body Is Distant follows Paige from a childhood obsession with the 1980s game Zork, through a health crisis and divorce, to, ultimately, an affirmation of authenticity and self-love."

hi, do you happen to have any writings about gender written by transfem butches and/or transfem poc that you'd recommend?
Yes! first, I recommend checking out this post, where I recommend / crowdsource some readings on butch trans womanhood / TMA subjectivity. I also highly recommend Emi Koyama's blog/body of work, b. binaohan's numerous writings and books, and the Trans Woman Writer's Collective (founded by Jamie Berrout, a powerhouse author/editor in her own right). My friend Valerie (@grimesapologist) has an excellent pamphlet out with them!
Some transfem/trans woman/TMA (acknowledging that there is as much variation in gender among TMA people as TME people, though the former group are systemically foreclosed from gender creativity in ways TME people are, within queer and trans circles, marginally permitted) writers of color I recommend include
micha cárdenas
Meredith Talusan
Vivek Shraya
jia qing wilson-yang
Ryka Aoki
Jules Gill-Peterson
Kai Cheng Thom
Trish Salah
[I've linked to my personal favorite/most influential work by most of the listed authors]
There are some great, relevant readings in the anthology Trap Door: Trans Cultural Projection and the Politics of Visibility. Lastly, this paper, A Tranifesto For the Dolls in Transgender Studies Quarterly is something of a who's who in this cohort of junior scholars in trans/feminist of color theory. Very exciting piece based off a very exciting conference roundtable that I actually attended back in 2022!
hope this helps :)

This week is the release of @tjalexandernyc ’s extremely fun new queer romance A Gentleman’s Gentleman (The Earl Meets his Match in the UK).
I think it's honestly my favourite trans regency romance I've read (that I did not write myself lol) and I devoured it in a couple of sittings, so I was just really pleased to be hired to draw the characters for some promotional art they used on postcards. Dream job tbh, and really rec if you want a fun queer romance read to bolster you through grim times.
