The leaks abt the new Viktor VGU confirming they're replacing all of his old skins and designs with the Arcane version is.... So so disappointing. I want to cry in frustration. Old Lore Viktor is self made, he and Jayce clashed over a difference in morals that were still understandable and grounded in reality. Viktor left, created his new body HIMSELF and used his ingenuity to help the people of Zaun. To replace all that with a sleek iPad version where he just gets possessed by an infected magic orb and ascends to godhood or whatever is SUCH a let down.

I love the concept of the Disassembly/Solver Drones making various non-human noises to talk to each other (usually I see this referred to as 'pinging', but they're basically doing the robot version of mrrping and chirping at each other) just as a basic concept, but I also really like it for the reason that it would add even more horror to Cyn, especially in her Tessa cosplay :)

I can imagine her starring glassy eyed into in the distance, then suddenly spotting a drone and doing that 'ek ek ek ek ek' noise cats do when they're looking at a bird through a window.

Or making distorted, glitched out pings and noises that a worker drone isn't going to pick up on but has the virtual hairs standing up on the back of every nearby Disassembly or Solver drone's neck.

Or when she's doing the "Callback Ping" bit in the hallway she's also letting out a high trilling sound not unlike stress purring that translates to a cry for help or comfort, and it's got N wanting to purr back and chirp out "it's okay, I'm here, you're okay!" but he can't he can't he can't

(Bonus points if she was doing this even back in the manor era. Just her and N chilling by the bar one evening, N says something funny and instead of laughing she just does a little humming mrp noise, and N's standing there unsure if he's delighted by this strange little sound she just made or weirded out because what even was that actually?)

Arcane - Viktor and Perfection Season 2

(Pt 1 Season 1 of this post here)

If season 1 Viktor is a compassionate person who wants to improve lives who's facing down his own impending death, what the hell is season 2 Viktor?

Season 2 Viktor is a compassionate person who wants to improve lives, who's facing down his own impending death.

Hear me out.

What's Herald Viktor doing? Healing people. (yes, I know, hold that thought). He goes straight into the Undercity and starts using his new powers to heal those who need the most help. He's also dealing with a situation where every use diminishes his power and without him everyone he's healed dies. Ouch.

Of course, this is the case because everyone he's healed are now all connected in some kind of hive mind where Viktor can literally speak through these people and see their thoughts. It also looks an awful lot like they've been emotionally changed to be more calm and cooperative. And Viktor is the leader. Viktor, who avoided the spotlight.

Let's talk about the Hexcore.

The Hexcore was created to be Hextech that adapts. That's what it was built for. The Hexcore's primary function is to EVOLVE. Sound familiar? The Hexcore was also bonded with Viktor's blood to become some kind of semi-aware thing that is capable of lashing out.

Viktor did not want to merge with the Hexcore.

He didn't do that. He explicitly didn't want that. Jayce did that to Viktor against his will therefore I can't possibly look at it as Viktor's attempt to change anything. I will note that Jayce knew none of the Hexcore's ominous qualities because Viktor had kept them from him, but that's a tangent.

So.

One one hand we have Viktor: compassionate, wants to help people. One the other hand we have the Hexcore: is built to evolve.

They have been merged in season 2.

Is it Viktor or the Hexcore in control in season 2? I think the answer is somewhere between both and neither. They are no longer separate entities. Therefore its really hard to say that "Viktor" is responsible. Viktor is now something else. Viktor has come back wrong. The Herald is still despairing at the sight of Hextech weapons. The Herald allows no weapons into the commune.

Still, is he seeking perfection?

Maybe? He wants to end suffering.

The neatest separation I can find is the Herald is pursuing Viktor's goals with Hexcore methods. He is trying to help but NOW he's doing it by changing people. Evolving them. The Hexcore's directive. He's also doing it only to people who explicitly ask, regardless of whether the result is in any way ethical.

Then the commune fails.

By which I mean Jayce blasts Viktor's chest open. Mostly I bring this up because Jayce also merged Viktor with the Hexcore. This one is more complicated, but I want to highlight that Viktor didn't jump; he was pushed.

Still, Herald Viktor did not need to accept Singed's transformation. However, when he dies all the people he's helped die too. Everything he's done comes to nothing - from his perspective. The show never answers the exact nature of the commune members transformations but it didn't look good. So, everything he's done collapses and Piltover descends into war.

It's also interesting that the Machine Herald wastes no time in going straight for his goals once he has the power to do so. The lack of power in season 1 meant he couldn't help people. I can see why the power of the Machine Herald would be appealing to Viktor.

But this transformation moves him another step away from his humanity (and apparently all concept of ethics).

The Herald wants to end all suffering. The Machine Herald lacks any understanding that removing everyone's humanity also removes the reason why the suffering is so tragic.

The Machine Herald does want to perfect humanity, in a way. Evolve them to what he thinks is the highest possible form. But his motive is still to help them, and yes, he's removing flaws now. The path here is such a long road from season 1 Viktor that the two are barely recognisable as the same person.

Season 1 Viktor would be horrified.

When Ekko throws his time device at Viktor, my impression was that it turned back time for Viktor. It literally brings back season 1 Viktor and he shrinks down even before he sees Jayce's vision! After which the look on his face is so stricken its painful to watch. Everyone say 'thank you Ekko'.

Which brings me to Jayce's speech. Beauty in imperfections. I laughed. Sorry. Viktor was dying. Again, no sign of any obsessions with changing himself or others before that. Tendencies towards compassion and fixing things - hardly negative traits.

So. Why?

I assume it was because of Mage Viktor! "There is no prize to perfection, only an end to pursuit." Makes no sense. Compels me though. In all seriousness, Mage Viktor is still referring to his dreamless solitude as a form of perfection (interesting! endlessly fascinating! how much hexcore is still there? come back and explain yourself Mage Viktor!). And he tells Jayce that's his motivation! Because in a way it was. And perhaps trying to address Machine Herald Viktor along these lines is not incorrect, but it doesn't address the core motivations. Not of either Viktor (improving lives) or the Hexcore (evolving).

The second part where Jayce wants his partner back, yes, that might have helped. In the commune. Before Herald Viktor pressed the Glorious Evolution button (end of world button, do not press). I think Jayce should, instead, have focused on "I thought I could bring an end to the world’s suffering." But even so, it was too late.

As a side note, I would say that at least part of Viktor sees even the Glorious Evolution as a compromise.

See the fantastic quote: "That which inspires us to our greatest good… is also the cause of our greatest evil." Obviously Herald Viktor's response to this realisation (which I don't think is false) is not to say, 'so I'd better look at how to help people within this limitation of the system' but instead; 'so I'd better redesign the system' (inherently a form of destruction!! Viktor!!!). However, I would also argue its an acknowledgement than to remove the greatest evil he is also removing the greatest good people are capable of. Fascinating.

My conclusion has to be: Perfection was never Viktor's goal. It's such a long road before the Machine Herald gets there. And its a blend of Viktor and the Hexcore that eventually makes the decision to evolve humanity into something else. Not Viktor himself.

n*loth not being able to bag anyone over the (human term) age of 25-30 at most is the only logical and real conclusion to me because it can be just explained away as him wanting to prove and control everything and anyone (Cus he's a man!) but being stuck in that demographic because his unbearable and vile personality is a force that nobody can look past once they've outgrown the possible fear and idolization period of anyone but also n*loth in particular.

[ @heartsnbruises this IS an interesting question, and i hope you don't mind me elaborating way more than is necessary

personally, i think that no, lettie does not favor kneeling on her left knee -- primarily because the knee plate is a bit pointed, and looks like it juts out quite a bit from her shin even when her leg is bent. kneeling on that point seems like it would put a lot of pressure on the underlying bone and not provide a lot of balance.

additionally -- and this is literally just conjecture on my part -- i imagine lettie has crazy shin splint-esque pains in her legs and that that knee in particular is pretty painful, so she tries not to put weight on it. in the backroom she stands with her weight on her right leg; i thought it'd be fun to run with that.

so i can definitely see a different interpretation! but i've already put all my eggs in the "lettie's left knee is the Bad Knee" basket, and by god i'm not taking them out. someone has to suffer knee pains with me and i'm making it her problem.

now... this is going COMPLETELY off topic... but i did wonder for a bit about what the knee plate is even made of, and why lettie has it. i know the simple answer is "it's just a segment of her warframe carapace, whatever that is" but we can get whackier. because it's odd that the progression of her mutation is so asymmetrical, compared to the other hex; and on a meta level, it's odd because base trinity does NOT have pointed knee plates (trinity prime does. did lettie's designer take visual cues from trin prime? maybe!)

personally i think lettie sustained a knee injury at some point and the combination of the serum & her own regenerative powers resulted in sort of a bone spur situation where her body over-zealously started forming More Bone/other tissue to repair the damage done.

so what is the plate made of? if it's an extension of the existing bone, presumably it has a blood supply and nerve endings. is it like a true horn you would see on a goat, with a keratin sheath (or something akin to it) containing a core? can it be used for thermoregulation? is that why lettie doesn't wear any damn pants?? because she's hot all the time??? this is actually fun and i MIGHT run with this LOL

OR is this more of an antler situation? did it grow in with vascular tissue that sloughed off when the bone calcified (metallicized?), like you would see with an antler (sucks to think about)? will the plate fall off eventually? will it keep growing for the rest of her life? does she have to shave it down occasionally? if there's a keratin sheath (or if it's all keratin with no core, like a rhinoceros horn), can it eventually be worn down to resemble base trinity's flatter knee pads? i don't know! when it comes to protoframe specbio i'm flying by the seat of my pants LOL]
