He smirked. “ I’ll rub you down all you want after you practice. “ He pulled him to his feet, the softest of smiles creeping to his face. Hot baths were always a lovely thing too, and not because they sometimes led to sex. Izzy loved relaxing, he loved the pampering and the hot water on his bones.

He rolled his eyes with a grin, taking the weapon. “ All right, watch me. You load the powder like this. “ He demonstrated, reloading the blunderbus. “ And like I said if you don’t have a bullet, you can shove pretty much anything in here to fire and it’ll be a massacre. “

He steadied the weapon, gesturing for Stede to give him some room. “ It’s all in the stance, darling. Keep one foot forward… “ He demonstrated. “ And one a little behind. This way, you brace for the kickback. “ Izzy was smaller than Stede too. By all rights he should be one flying back on his ass, but he didn’t. He let go of the round on the second target, destroying it, his body keeping the stance but rocked back only slightly. “ You gotta tighten your core muscles just as you shoot. “ He patted Stede’s belly.

“ Well all ships are women. “ He answered easily. “ I’ve never heard of a ship addressed as he, so I assume weaponry is the same. Men admire women, and you admire the strength of that weapon. “ Izzy had an answer for everything.

He watched as he struggled to hold the large rifle. Oh this was gonna be good, he thought. When he fired and fell, the loudest roar of laughter erupted from him. He was laughing so hard tears had started forming in his eyes. He laughed as he called him cruel, bending down to take the gun away so the blonde could be helped back up. “ I couldn’t resist!! “ He really couldn’t. He offered Stede a hand with a chuckle. “ Now look at your target. “

Where the ten foot target had been standing, it was all but obliterated. Roach was already getting ready with a replacement target.

ok but why haven’t I seen a gifset of izzy getting his ass slapped by stede in the duel vs izzy slapping stede’s ass in the trailer. someone get on that. I need to see it. pretty please.

Another interesting thing re: Ed’s go-to method of strangulation specifically is that it’s SUCH a difficult way to kill. And given his mental block on being able to kill personally, it’s telling that he chooses a method he cannot possibly use any mental gymnastics or dissociation tactics to distance himself from.

Like…no wonder he has such a hard time with it, if this is his personal code. And maybe I just love a masochistic characterization, but I’m fascinated by the fact that rather than resorting to an “easier” method, like a gun—or a mental tactic, a la Frenchie’s box—he just fully commits to the hardest option possible. He just can’t commit a act of violence unless it’s also a violent act against himself.
