Navaratri 2024: Embracing Divine Energies in April's Splendor.
For the last Navaratri celebration, the focus was on honoring tradition while adding a modern twist to the culinary delights. Here's a glimpse of the delicious fare that graced the tables during Navaratri 2024 in April:
Sundal Varieties: Sundal, a South Indian snack made from legumes like chickpeas, black-eyed peas, or lentils, was prepared in a myriad of flavors. From traditional coconut and mustard tempering to innovative twists like tangy mango or spicy tamarind, each sundal offered a burst of flavor.
Navaratri Special Thali: A vibrant array of dishes adorned the Navaratri special thali. It featured delicacies like crispy Sabu dana vadas, creamy pumpkin kheer, and spicy potato curry. The thali was a celebration of diverse flavors and textures, symbolizing the richness of the Navaratri festival.
Fruit Chat with a Twist: A refreshing fruit chat received a makeover with a drizzle of honey infused with cardamom and saffron. This sweet and tangy treat was a delightful addition to the Navaratri menu, offering a burst of freshness amidst the rich festive fare.
Navaratri-inspired Mocktails: Cool and refreshing mocktails were served to complement the spicy and savory dishes. Mocktails infused with flavors like rose, mint, and citrus provided a welcome respite from the heat and added a touch of sophistication to the celebrations.
Innovative Desserts: Traditional sweets like coconut ladu and jaggery-based delicacies shared the spotlight with innovative desserts. Guests indulged in decadent offerings like chocolate-dipped bananas adorned with edible gold leaf and saffron-infused rashgullas, elevating the dessert experience to new heights.
Garba: Garba is a traditional dance form originating from the state of Gujarat in India. During Navaratri, people gather in large groups to perform this joyful and energetic dance. Dancers form concentric circles or intricate patterns, clapping their hands and moving gracefully to the rhythm of traditional folk songs. The vibrant costumes and rhythmic beats create an electrifying atmosphere, where participants immerse themselves in the joyous spirit of the festival.
Dandiya Raas: Dandiya Raas is another popular dance form performed during Navaratri, especially in Gujarat and other parts of India. In this dance, participants wield colorful sticks called dandiyas while moving in pairs or groups. The dancers strike their dandiyas in sync with the music, creating a rhythmic pattern of beats. Dandiya Raas is not only a dance but also a social activity that fosters camaraderie and community spirit.
Folk Dances: Apart from Garba and Dandiya Raas, various folk dances from different regions of India are also performed during Navaratri. These dances showcase the cultural diversity of the country, with each region contributing its unique style and repertoire. From the graceful movements of Odissi to the energetic steps of Bhangra, folk dances add a colorful dimension to Navaratri celebrations, reflecting the rich heritage and traditions of India.

hii! (hello hi not bye bye!) phuljari here and aapko *brings out puja thali* namaste! *does your aarti* welcome welcome!
not that i'd ever do that irl lol. fancy welcome aside, iss blog ka introduction toh suno:
i am currently very very obsessed with ArShi (kind of new to it but had watched the show in snippets when i was younger!) i have also admired SaMud and DevAkshi. I used to loveeee ArDi and was kinda engaged in the fandom back when it first aired.
i'm mostly here to reminisce about my teenage desi otps cos i couldn't back then and i'm nostalgic rn. most of my fandom contributions have been for the english media but it just doesn't feel desi enough ykwim? so this is a dedicated desiblr (sideblog) just for me and my growing and ever-changing desi interests <3
i know that indian dramas are very problematic and i also know that they have some of the most regressive tones and i don't support any of that just fyi. i hate most of them, and the amount of times i've cringed at some of the stereotypical themes have been uncountable. but, i still want to reclaim the redeemable parts that i enjoyed because being a mainstream english media consumer has kinda been feeling a little incomplete and i love the way things are changing, esp on ott platforms, the international exposure has had a positive impact on the quality of content.
i spent most of my teenage years with the notion that i hate these representations, but now that i'm older, i realise that it's not so black and white, that i could still love parts of these things without it becoming a reflection of me and my values. moreover, i dislike typical fem representations as that's something that i struggle to connect with (i'm averse to a lot of typical girly stuff) but i still want to be able to love the other feminine parts of me without the fear of being stereotyped or feeling misrepresentated.
i wanted to say all of that because i don't connect well with people who are ardent fans of indian tv since a lot of them don't notice the subtle yet problematic themes in the portrayal of these stories. i find that this platform has some sensible people who recognise these facts and yet show their love towards these stories! i'm just here to fangirl, share my opinion, and reclaim the elements of these stories/characters that i love without it becoming a huge discourse on traditions/mythology/religion etc.

Paneer Butter Masala:
Indian food at its best is Paneer Butter Masala. Indian cottage cheese (paneer) cubes are cooked in a rich tomato-based sauce with just the right amount of spices to make this dish creamy and flavourful. Plenty of people choose this option when they love Indian food and want to spice up their Sunday roast.
Delicious sides to go with your roast—
The Brook serves a wide range of tasty sides that go well with their unique main dishes and make your meal even better. The Brook's side dishes make sure that every bite is a treat, whether you want something traditional or a little different. Here are some of the sides that stand out:
Onion Rings:
Great with any roast or main dish, crispy, golden onion rings are a must. Crispiness and flavour are delivered with each bite of these expertly fried, lightly battered treats.
Naan Bread:
Sunday roasts at The Brook get an Indian makeover with the addition of freshly made naan bread. Naan is wonderfully soft, warm, and slightly charred. It's great for sopping up sauces or eating by itself.
Rice or Pulav Rice:
As a side dish, guests at The Brook can choose between plain rice and aromatic pulao rice, should they desire a little more variety. Many of the Indian-style dishes, especially the Paneer Butter Masala, go well with the fragrant rice.
Roast Potatoes:
You should definitely have another helping of roast potatoes. These golden, crunchy treats are a must-have for Sunday roasts, and The Brook makes sure they are always cooked just right.
Yorkshire Pudding:
You can always order more Yorkshire puddings if one isn't enough! These golden, light puddings are great for mopping up the rich gravy and giving your food a nice texture.
Salad mix:
If you want something lighter, the mixed salad is a great way to balance out the heartier parts of the Sunday Roast. The salad is a great way to get some greens into your meal. It is fresh, crisp, and has a light dressing.
Decadent Desserts to End Your Feast-
Without a decadent dessert, a Sunday Roast is incomplete. The Brook Indian Gastro Pub has sweets to satisfy your sweet tooth. Here are some tasty desserts:
