2024: Trade Diversion Boosts Demand for China-Russia Freight Links
Demand for freight links from China and Kazakhstan to Russia boosted as well by trade diverted from Russia to Central Asia that is then destined (what a surprise!) to be passed along to sanctioned Russia. Robin Brooks at Brookings posted a graph of vastly increased exports from some EU countries to Kyrgyzstan which lies between China and Kazakhstan Freight transportation market October 16,…

My controversial opinion about Hob Gadling is that I believe he’s absolutely the sort of guy that “puts things behind him”, and tries to wash his hands clean of the things he feels icky about. This is implied pretty well in the show, with him blithely moving from soldiering and robbery to printing, from slaving to… whatever it was he was doing in the 19th century instead. That being said, this is not at all the same as actively trying to atone, or even making a concerted effort to be a better person, and I really wish fandom could tell the difference!
#the amount of times I’ve seen people argue that Hob has redeemed himself and ofc feels really horrible about his role in the slave trade#but there is ZERO textual indication that’s true#in fact judging by how he acts in the 19th century and how he was after all the other shit he did that he maybeeee feels kind of sheepish#and would just like to move on thanks!#i love flawed characters and I love monstrous characters and I love hypocrites and I love friendly amoral assholes#Hob is genuinely a super compelling character and embodies the sort of greed of humanity we see in other forms in Madoc and Burgess#he’s got a more friendly face and he’s a slightly lighter version of it but sandman presents humanity as fundamentally flawed and greedy#and Hob is that to a T#I’d really love it if fandom embraced this version of Hob#making him a fluffy anti-racist progressive hip college professor is just so weird#or especially when they have him espouse progressive views… in the past???#look Hob is actual facts a worse person than the Corinthian in a lot of metrics#when I see 17th century Hob talk about the beautiful diversity of humans I just lose my mind a little#also he’s clearly a wolf of Wall Street yuppie asshole in 1984#hot take Dreamling would be more fun and spicier if people leaned into Hob’s canon traits more#both Dream and Hob are kind of awful#I actually like Hob!#but… man I do not like fanon Hob one bit

fascinated by the implied fennec-ventress-phee friend group in tbb. even more interesting (funny) when you add boba in there during the tbobf era.
#star wars#tbb#the bad batch#tbobf#tbb phee#fennec shand#boba fett#asajj ventress#bossk#black krrsantan#i think fennec is literally the only one of bobas friends shorter than him lol#phee is normal about it#ventress on the other hand#she is like 6 ft tall she is using everyone as an armrest#okay but. now that boba is at actual war with the pikes#ventress is probably the best possible ally for the situation#like one. LIGHTSABERS AND THE FORCE#two. shes already on the pikes bad side; she has no rep to lose with the pikes if she does help boba#three. nobody in bobas entire retinue knows how to command anything larger than a small strike team#between boba fennec and krrsantan they're a full team of lone wolf solo hunters#they can barely coordinate a four person team let alone an army big enough to fight the pikes#in that last battle in bobf iirc boba straight up disappeared and returend with a rancor kaijuing everything with 0 warning to his friends#and they just kind of lost track of the shiny vespa gang#anything larger than krayts claw and boba just. loses everybody#he's busy fighting not looking for people!#on the other hand theres ventress who has several years of commanding literal millions of droids in massive-scale battles#boba: listen ill forget about quarzite if you help. please. i have an army and no clue what to do with it#boba: my friends dont know either i already asked#phee is their resident smuggler (very very useful when dealing with pike spice trade) and probably knows all the tattooine pike routes#boba please. you need some diversity on your team. you can't fight a war with eight solo assassins smushed together.

I was at an event recently celebrating the works of bipoc writers & something one of the speakers said stuck with me... they mentioned that so often we expect stories by bipoc writers to centre a culture/issue in order to "teach" something (usually to white readers) & this is something I've been talking about on and off for years... idk how to explain to white writers what it feels like to know that at least in this larger canon we call the publishing industry, bipoc voices *have* been "let in" (generalization) but mostly in a very specific way & with a specific purpose. the things I've been told/that I've learned... the way there truly is an expectation to "use my voice"--to do what? can my voice as a racialized writer not just... do what I want it to? is my voice not valuable if I don't "represent" myself? I LOVE seeing books that uplift & represent marginalized communities, that's not at all my issue, howeverrrr I don't like knowing that's the expectation of what I write just because of my skin. it makes navigating publishing even harder & honestly most of the time I feel doomed!! I'm relieved to hear more bipoc writers/publishing professionals talk about that because it's something I've silently been grappling with for years... I just want to write whatever I want to write & idk how to explain how isolating it is to know in the eyes of the current canon, it's bizarre that I'm not capitalizing on *my life* to make a literary impact...
#keeping this conversation to being a bipoc writer bc in my experience at the intersections of queer/disabled this is not the same#been having this convo on and off on my sideblog SO there are more unfiltered thoughts there lollll#I will keep it to this for now on here but yeahhhh#one final question I will put out is... how do white ppl think bipoc live their life & view their day to day?#bc this attempt at (capitalistic) diversity IMO has traded one type of othering for another !!!#*disclaimer that this convo has nuance etcccc

I desperately need to get better at designing clothes for my characters
#I have. my odd fashion likes. no idea what style it is- and nothing else#idk what you call what I like but it’s primarily hoodies and jackets and tshirts and occasionally some formalwear is tossed in there#This was brought about both by an art trade I’m doing and some sketches I was doing of Veronica#Veronica has a broad range of outfits which I cannot give her if I stick to One Style Only#it’s good for ✨diversity✨ and what not

it's really a shame I have to sell 40+ of my life hours every week for poverty wages instead of spending all my time and energy on dozens of creative and technical pursuits with unlimited resources
#nerd alert#lets see if i can list all the hobbies i wish i could be doing instead of working#drawing. both traditional and digital. painting mostly acrylic but id like to get good at watercolors. drawing/writing comics#writing in general. fiction nonfiction poetry lyrics whatever. composing music. music production. singing. practicing piano and guitar#performing someday maybe!#sculpting too. i always forget bc i never do it bc i am never in a place to justify buying clay. i should just get some#i think im fairly good at it tbh. anyway.#knitting. sewing. mending and modding clothes in general. embroidery. id like to learn to crochet at some point#photography and scrapbooking sound appealing. photo editing.#web design. game design. 3d modeling. these are all things i dont really know how to do much of but id like to#animation. voice acting. regular acting. honestly a lot of stuff in the filmmaking process sounds fascinating id like to try some of it#tarot reading. is that a hobby? im gonna say yes. jewelry making.#lots of these ive only dabbled in and some i havent even done that but would like to. but i have no time and or money to get into them.#i would hardly call myself a master at any of these. jack of all trades as it were. and thats fine im fine w that#but given the time and resources i think i could make so many different diverse perfectly average to good things#that people could enjoy in passing or say 'oh how neat :)' about

Nothing more frustrating than having a dream set in an amazing book series and then waking up to find out it doesn’t exist. Guess I’VE gotta write this now
#it was so INTERESTING and vivid. i woke up like ‘i swear i’ve read this’ but it doesn’t actually exist#okay so the setting was this world where the moon has cracked in half (potentially due to human intervention idk)#the tides have gone super weird because of this#the majority of humans live at basically the tops of really really tall buildings. like at high altitude#at the lower levels; it’s just water. the lower down you go the humidity increases also#so as well as the humans who live at the top of the world there are vaporous species living at the mid level and there are mer-creatures#in the sea. god knows how agriculture works in this world. i know people had rooftop gardens#maybe everyone had adapted to a vegan diet or maybe there was trade with the mermaids to get fish. idk#anyway; the majority of my dream was concerned with this elite university academy and this one problematic student named alex#he had been sentenced to life imprisonment for basically insulting the government (this was a very totalitarian regime that had formed when#the world first cracked and everything went to shit)#but he would be able to get his sentence overturned if he took this one class (i think it was civics or politics or something#with a media focus) and basically created the best propaganda video imaginable#so they were basically requiring him to recant his claims publicly; endorse the government; and he had to do it so convincingly#that his video would be rated the best in the class#the other people in the class included these two sisters who also badly needed to pass in order to graduate#and a bunch of exchange students#also the sky is basically a television in this world#everyone is up so high that they can see the moon fractured in two and it’s Really close to the earth#but you can’t see much else in the sky. so they were doing shit like beaming everyone’s class schedules and syllabi and lists of what you#need to buy for class directly into the sky#i don’t know if i’m selling it but it was so INTERESTING. i was really annoyed when i woke up and realised i couldn’t actually read this#because it doesn’t exist#APPARENTLY i have to write it. which is worrying because i’m not at all good at worldbuilding. but honestly the dream was so vivid#i can basically just.. take it and expand on it very slightly#i think what interested me was the backdrop of this elite university that all the kids of rich family go to vs the obvious reality#of this world; where there is food scarcity and very little diversity of habitats. and a dictator#personal

on one hand i do bemoan the fall from popularity for collies quite a lot because i think they are wonderful family dogs and more people should have them. but, i'm also equally grateful that they lack the popular appeal that would make them victim to terrible trendy breeding practices (i.e. wacky colors and XXL/tiny sizes and other hypertypes)
i feel similarly about greyhounds - the fact that (in the US) they have had such incredibly limited breeding outside of tracks has been good because it results in a very healthy, regulated population. but with the closures of tracks we're already seeing more and more non-sport, non-show breedings start popping up and i am very concerned about what a BYB greyhound population will have to deal with. but given that it's ether this, or the breed becomes incredibly limited... not really a good option either way.
#given the already-scary OSA figures in racing lines and cardiac problems in show lines#the idea of those genepools condensing so dramatically is a nightmare#at the same time i think like collies they lack the popular appeal and utility to really be self-sustaining without tracks#not to say there arent shitty breeders/trends in collies because BOY are there#but you look at a breed like a frenchie or a lab or whatever. with 800 new marketing gimmicks a week#and maybe trading diversity for lack of whatever the hell is going on there isnt too bad#i -think- given the publics current hyperfixation on extreme brachy and non-shedding coats both of these breeds are 'safe' for now#but its only a matter of time before it swings in a new direction. and who knows wtf that will be

FINALLYYYY BEAT 5BC ALL THE WAY THROUGH WITHOUT ASSIST MODE. SHOUTOUT TO DEATH'S SCYTHE FOR CARRYING ALL THE WAY UP TO THE GIANT and then a baseball bat which was incapable of landing crits on the final boss with the set i had but pulled through with huge damage anyways lmao
#ghost town... 2!#dead cells#(btw to clarify: i am NOT an anti-assist mode elitist; i just wanted to challenge myself by winning the “intended” way eventually)#(and eventually has finally arrived YIPPEEEE)#also funny how nerves work lol i got to the final boss' last phase without getting hit#and then proceeded to choke and almost die at the last moment lmaooo#i don't really struggle with him now because of the amount of time i had to spend on my first run with him using infinite retries#using a SEVERELY UNDERLEVELED panchaku and a shield that can't parry reliably (alucard's shield I HATE IT NOW & never take it)#but yea nerves will still fuck you up no matter how much practice you have lol. extremely fun boss fight tho i love it#oh yea btw the set i used:#death's scythe - front line shield - diverse deck (electrodynamics) - giant whistle - rampart in backpack#then switched from scythe to baseball bat at the end of sepulcher#armadillopack all the way through. point blank and gastronomy until i switched from death's scythe to baseball bat before the giant#then traded the last 2 for spite and open wounds (baseball bat had bonus to bleeding enemies) for giant and hotk#switched spite for gastronomy for astrolab (which CAME IN CLUTCH btw)#and then finally finished with armadillopack/open wounds/gold plating bc i got scared lol (APPARENTLY A GOOD CALL THOUGH)

Starting to think people are just like genuinely unaware that the majority of the German diaspora in Latin America predates Nazism by decades. Nazis fled to these countries because of the German-speaking communities there, not the other way around. Like I get that it’s just jokes but there’s seemingly an underlying association of any Latin American with a German-sounding name and a light complexion with being the child or grandchild of a war criminal and I think we should all take a step back and appreciate how incredibly dumb this is
#not to mention that part of the humor seems to be that like. these people don't Belong there like they can't be True latin americans#it's so strange and creepy like latin american countries are as diverse as the u.s.#and the products of many waves of german irish syrian japanese italian english etc immigration#in addition to indigenous peoples iberian colonialism and the african slave trade#mine

I can speak any of the Romance languages just fine but for some god forsaken reason I CANNOT speak French like what the fuck is a bourgeoisie and why can’t I say it correctly for the life of me.
Yeah, French is pretty tricky... Figuring out what letters to pronounce is difficult and I can do the sounds for it in my head when I think I've figured it out (sort of) but my mouth lacks the flexibility to do them out loud haha
A long while ago I read Les Fleurs du Mal, and my copy is dual-language with the original French on the left page and an English translation on the right, and it drove me nuts that I didn't know how to read the sounds for the French so I read a crash course guide for it. It helped a lot once I realized that a good portion of the letters that aren't pronounced in a French word function similarly to an accented character in that it's there only to modify the sounds of the letters near it than to contribute in a major way to the overall sound of the word itself. My native Germanic language (English) brain really wants all of those letters to be doing something up-front instead rofl
Though, English also has its special words with sneaky little helper letters that aren't pronounced... ("sovereign...")
#asks#I dipped my toes into Gaelic and Welsh once upon a time and when I read about the letter pronunciation I was like#'Oh! French uses letters like this! Those must be from its Gaulish roots'#I LOVE the interconnectedness of languages. It's one of my favorite things to read about#Humans want to talk to each other and share cultures so much!!#Twirling my hair and kicking my feet thinking about Nordic traders learning languages in southern parts of Europe to trade with its people#So far from home and a language so different from their own...#God even just the traders and traveling people and cultures within just China alone. It's a diverse place!!#AND THE INTERNET!! I wish my Japanese writing skills were better so I could more efficiently communicate with my-#-Japanese Twitter mutuals...#Isn't it incredible how we're some of the first people in ALL OF HUMAN HISTORY that can feasibly maintain-#-friendships with people on the other side of the planet thousands and thousands of miles away...#Hundreds of thousands of years of human existence and only in these last 35 can we now do that#Ok I need to go get work done now lol This ask activated me
