You're My Best Friend (Homelander x Reader)
Summary: Homelander was a test tube baby, raised in isolation in a cold, clinical lab. But that doesn’t inspire America, does it? Vought tasks you with creating the idyllic backstory for its hero, and what starts as a limited comic run spirals out of control when Homelander himself demands your help in making the story a reality.
Note: Gender neutral reader, but no other descriptors are used. Based on a request by @crash-and-cure as well as a bastardization of one of the sweetest love songs ever written (sorry, John Deacon!) This got kinda meta? Do not interact if you’re under 18 or post thinspo/ED content.
Word count: 2k
Warnings: Emotional manipulation, I guess some gaslighting on Homelander’s part? Do not interact if you’re under 18.
When Vought hired you to create their long-awaited Homelander origin comic series, you were thrilled—until they gave you so little information about his childhood to work with, you weren’t even sure you could come up with one comic, let alone the ten they requested. The details about his childhood were minimal, not even a full printed page—a loving mom and dad, played baseball, did well in school, strong sense of justice from a young age, his friends called him “Johnny.” Your requests to meet with Homelander so you could get some stories from the man himself were constantly denied.
You almost considered dropping the project, until you decided to throw caution to the wind and pull from your own childhood and set it in good ol’ generic suburbia. Some of the storylines were based on your own experiences or things that had happened to people you’d grown up with, though you changed enough names and details to not link it to anyone in particular. Except yourself, of course. Using a pseudonym professionally meant you felt no need to change your own name in the comics. Sure, making your cooler fictionalized self Homelander’s childhood best friend was a bit self-indulgent, but no one would know, really.
To your relief, the editors at Vought loved your ideas, making minor changes before bringing the storylines to their comic artists to bring it to life. The result was Finding Homelander: A Boy’s Journey To Be a Hero. The issues flew off shelves when they were first released, ironically praised for their relatability and authenticity. Vought extended your contract, asking you to produce the cartoon adaptation and another ten issues.
Still, in all of that, you’d never met Homelander. A representative from Vought emailed you to let you know to tune in to his interview on a talk show one day, saying that he’d be talking more about the cartoon project on it. You recognized the host, Tracey, always chipper and having some extravagant giveaway for her audience members. Daytime TV was never your thing, though.
“I think what resonates with so many people is how relatable your childhood is,” Tracey said, holding up a copy of Finding Homelander issue #3, where he saved ‘you’ from getting hit in the face with a baseball at one of his games, catching it with ease. It’d been the happy ending to a short storyline of him struggling to find his place on the team and you encouraging him to not give up. “You and Y/N were pretty close, do you still keep in touch?”
“You know, Tracey, not as much as I’d like, unfortunately. Adulthood can be so busy, you need to cherish those childhood memories,” Homelander said. “I did give them a call when the comics first came out, and wow, the laughs we had over those old antics of ours. Talk about a walk down memory lane!”
You guessed the bullshitting was all part of the promotional circuit for Homelander. Knowing this childhood of his was your own fabrication, you couldn’t help but wonder what else about him was fake. Maybe he wanted to maintain his privacy, you could certainly understand that. You couldn’t shake the voice in the back of your mind that said it wasn’t so simple, that the narrative Vought pushed was a cover to hide something in Homelander’s past.
“Now, I’ve heard rumors of a cartoon show based on the comics in the making, is this true?”
“It is! I’m excited for this project, getting back to my ‘roots’ so to speak. I’ll be voicing myself, of course, but it’s funny you’d bring up Y/N, because they’ve agreed to voice themself, too.”
“How fun!” Tracey exclaimed over the roar of the talk show crowd’s applause and cheers. “I guess this is the hopeless romantic in me, but I hope this reconnection leads to something a little more. I’m just a sucker for childhood sweethearts!”
Homelander laughed along with the host’s giggles, “Well, you never know.”
You balked at the television, mouth agape. Surely he couldn’t be talking about you. ‘Y/N’ could be anyone with your same features. Vought had probably hired a professional voice actor for the role and were pushing the authenticity angle. The whole situation felt odd.
When you checked your work email again on your phone, you nearly dropped it on the floor.
SUBJECT: Meeting with Homelander This Week
The email contained a list of days and times throughout the week wherein Homelander would be free, apparently wanting to meet you to thank you for the success of the comic series and discuss upcoming work. Yeah. That last part you sure as hell wanted to discuss too. You responded with the soonest time available, in a meeting room in Vought Tower the following evening. As soon as you hit ‘send’, you wondered what exactly you were getting yourself into.
Anticipation filled your gut as you went about your day leading up to meeting the supe himself. What would he be like, really be like? Was there even a version of Homelander that wasn’t hopelessly manufactured for the masses? You knew then that his upbringing was a lie, and thus stood the probability that so much else was, too.
When you stepped into that meeting room, you hadn’t been expecting his face to light up at the sight of you.
“Homelander, hi, it’s great to—“
“No need to be so formal, Y/N! You can call me Johnny, just like old times,” he said cheerfully, in on a joke you clearly hadn’t been aware of.
“Sorry, Johnny,” you said, playing along. “It’s great to see you again.”
He pulled you in for an unexpected hug that you returned. “Figured we should catch up before things really start getting crazy, don’t you think?”
You nodded, your nose brushing against him as you did so. Just as your lips parted to offer an apology, he smiled, shooing away the assistant who’d accompanied him out of the room.
He sat down, motioning for you to do the same.
“Gotta say, I’m a fan of your work,” he said.
“Thank you,” you said. “I’m not sure I understand exactly what’s going on, though.”
“What’s there to understand? I’m not allowed to know more about my best friend, our lives together growing up?”
“How did you know it was me?”
“Wasn’t hard for me to put two and two together, but considering everyone else around here has their head up their asses, they have no idea,” he said, before lowering his voice conspiratorially and giving you a charming smile. “I haven’t told anyone. What’s a secret between friends?”
You nodded, overwhelmed by the intensity of his attention on you. “What do you want to know?”
He sighed, resting his head on his hand. “Everything.”
So you told him. Not quite everything, of course, but enough to abate his curiosity. At least for the time being. His interviews were sharper, more specific with details rather than rattling off whatever had been in the comics. You watched in shock as convincing photos of his Little League days were posted to his social media accounts, anecdotes provided by his increasingly frequent conversations–or more like interrogation sessions–with you, but in his style, of course. It was almost scary what the graphic design team at Vought could accomplish, not that you’d ever know how, exactly, as they were all under the same strict NDA that you were.
He started spending more time with you, too, and after a while, it did seem like you were old friends. Part of you flinched whenever you called him Johnny, because Johnny wasn’t even real, but with your complacency, this fabrication was slowly morphing into a strikingly tangible memory. With each conversation, he drew you deeper into the world you’d been paid to create for him until you found yourself slipping up.
You’d been showing him a goofy stuffed monkey on your desk, a cute little thing with big sparkling eyes. A prize for getting two out of three at the ring toss. Probably spent more money winning it than it was actually worth, but it was about the effort, the memories made.
“You remember, don’t you? You won it for me at the county fair,” you said without thinking.
He laughed in agreement, as if he actually had. Except he hadn’t. Your high school boyfriend won it for you a week before graduation. Sensing the mood shift, he set down your prize and looked at you with the same intensity he had when you first met.
“It’s been a while since we were there, huh?” he said. “Why don’t we go back?”
You furrowed your eyebrows. “Go where?”
“Home.”
With a strong arm around your waist, he took off for your hometown. You could hardly tell which way was up or down, he was flying so high, but he didn’t seem to mind the way you clung to him at all. When he finally landed, you recognized the community baseball field where all of his fictional games were set.
“Geez, it’s like nothing’s changed,” he said cheerfully.
You looked at him in disbelief. How long was he going to expect you to go along with it? Or maybe the question you should have been asking was, how long were you going to enable him? The end wasn’t anywhere in sight as he took your hand, and you walked him through your childhood, further enmeshing him in it until you arrived at the house you grew up in.
The middle of the day, no one was home, and so you let yourselves in like you owned the place. Suddenly, the house seemed too small for a man like Homelander to occupy, but he was engrossed in the details of it. He scanned the kitchen, no doubt inspecting the contents of the fridge and cabinets with his x-ray vision. Moving onto the living room, he stared at photos on the wall, the magazines and DVDs that were strewn on the coffee table, giving away your parents’ taste in entertainment.
“Which one was your room again?” he asked.
You swore you could feel his breath on the back of your neck as you wordlessly led him to your room. Each step down the hall felt dangerous, as if you were about to walk into a trap. Face-to-face with the closed door, you opened it, standing aside while Homelander looked around, from what you had hanging on the walls to the knick-knacks you’d left behind.
An uncomfortable tension settled over the room when Homelander closed the door of your childhood bedroom. An odd blend of hurt and amusement spread across his face as he observed the way you were eyeing him, body ready to fruitlessly run from him the way a rabbit would a hawk.
“C’mon, after how long we’ve been friends, I would never hurt you,” he said, as if reading your mind. “We’ve been through so much together. I mean, we were each other’s first kiss.”
You froze. Issue #9. That was something Vought’s editors had added, claiming a romance angle would make the series appeal to the younger female demographic. You hadn’t thought much of it at the time.
He slyly backed you into the wall, leaning over you as you slinked down the slightest bit.
“Show me how we did it,” he whispered, his hand caressing your cheek. “So clumsy and nervous, I can even feel you…quivering.”
“Homelander, I don’t know what you’re—“
He tsked. “Y/N.”
You let out a shaky breath, “Johnny—“
He hummed in satisfaction. “It’s alright. I know it’s been a while.”
You let him kiss you, sweetly in a way that put your actual first kiss to shame. His lips were soft against yours, his tender movements intentional as he cradled your face, pulling you the slightest bit closer to him when you kissed him back.
A sense of familiarity settled over you, warm and comforting like pulling a blanket out of the dryer on a chilly evening. Every time it seemed like you were beginning to overthink the situation with Homelander, he drew you back in with the kiss, a more than effective distraction until you pulled away with a dazed smile on your face.

We Last Forever: A Cottage in the South Downs
Aziraphale took Crowley’s hand and the pair materialized seconds later on a grassy lane. The weather was pleasantly warm. A light breeze swept across the hills carrying the smell of the sea. It was quiet, save for the buzzing of bees and the crashing of waves somewhere in the distance.
In front of them stood a cottage. It was two stories with a thatched roof. Ivy crawled up the stone facade, rendering it nearly invisible from the road. The garden gate was rusted and paint peeled from the front door. The cottage looked abandoned and yet…
Crowley stepped towards the house and was suddenly overcome with the most curious sensation. He couldn’t quite describe it but whatever it was, it felt the opposite of spooky.
“What’s this?” Crowley asked.
“A house.”
“I can see that. Whose house?”
Aziraphale twiddled with a pair of keys in his hands. “Um, mine. Technically.”
Crowley turned back to Aziraphale in surprise.
“I bought it a while ago,” Aziraphale explained. “I asked Agent Shadwell and Madame Tracey to keep an eye on it when I… when I left for Heaven.”
Aziraphale stilled and looked to the ground. When he spoke again his voice was quieter; his expression pained.
“I wasn’t supposed to keep it. I was instructed to let go of all my earthly possessions upon my promotion,” the angel sneered at the word and Crowley instinctively wrapped his hand around Aziraphale’s. Crowley was only beginning to understand just how long it would take for each of them to heal from the hurt caused by Heaven, but they would heal in time; they had each other now. Crowley squeezed Aziraphale’s hand gently and the tension in the angel’s shoulders lessened.
“But I didn’t get rid of it,” Aziraphale whispered. “I couldn’t because I, um… Well, I bought this house for us actually. I had always hoped we might live here one day.”
A loaded pause followed Aziraphale’s words and Crowley’s mind went blank. Aziraphale had bought this house for them? Why? How? When? His shock must have read clear on his face because Aziraphale hurriedly continued.
“Oh dear, please don’t misunderstand. We don’t have to live here. I just wanted to show you because I thought maybe– actually, goodness, what am I saying? This was far too presumptuous. I apologize. I’ll sell it. Let me grab the paperwork from inside and-”
“Is that a conservatory?” Crowley asked as his eyes caught sight of a glass structure beside the cottage.
“For your plants, yes.” Aziraphale blushed. “Would you… like to see it?”

Sy Smith Is Here With Until We Meet Again
Sy Smith lands with her +FE Music debut Until We Meet Again. Six years ago Smith released Sometimes A Rose Will Grow In Concrete. The singer introduced UWMA with the tipsy vibes of "Slide" and its sensual love invitation. Smith sings about past romances, love lessons, unresolved breakups, appreciating beautiful souls, and remembrances of those who have passed ("Until We Meet Again"). Zo! and Tall Black Guy produced the album's warm atmosphere of hip-hop components, and soul styles from the '70s and '80s. Percussion royalty Sheila E, jazz and pop trumpeter Chris Botti, Tracey Lee, and Dontae Winslow have featured appearances in Smith's latest audio diary. The songbird soothes and enchants with her tone from lower registered moments to the whistle notes in the philosophical "Remember How To Fly" and the Philly soul sample supported "Why Do You Keep Calling Me." The new album has a dreamier sound than Sometimes A Rose Will Grow In Concrete which matches the brain fuzziness of emotional recollection. The singer explained in a press release,
“You ever pick up an old photo album that you haven’t seen in many years and look through it? And all the memories of each photo come flooding back as if those pictures were just taken yesterday? That’s what “Until We Meet Again” feels like. It’s a sonic reverie down memory lane - making stops at every single emotion that comes with reminiscing.”
The title track finishes the album with a memorial for everyone the singer loves who has passed and she commands the listener to name those they have lost as well. The album moves like background music for running into an old dear friend that was missed. Smith is at her best on UWMA in complete control of her instrument and she has maintained all of the panache she has been known for since her Psykosoul debut. She will hit the road in March on a headlining tour in support of UWMA.

Hey, I just checked out American Royalty on your recommendation and loved it! Are there any similar books you’d recommend?
Omg hi, sorry this took a while. I normally read historicals so I don't have too many contemporaries for you but I'll do my best to give you books that match the vibe/tone/energy of American Royalty by Tracey Livesay even if they don't seem like a perfect match.
Nobody's Princess by Erica Ridley: a classic detective/princess (by which we mean princess knight) historical romance
The Royal We by Jessica Morgan and Heather Cocks: SO bonkers and way too close to reality but actually kind of great
The Princess Trap by Talia Hibbert: really good, I haven't read much Talia Hibbert lately but this was a lot of fun
Royally Not Ready by Meghan Quinn: long-lost princess meets hot bodyguard!!
A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole: modern day working girl meets African prince, shenanigans ensure
The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare: grumpy scarred duke meets resourceful charming albeit #damaged seamstress and they learn to love
Never Seduce a Scot by Maya Banks: Scottish laird has an arranged marriage with the daughter of his enemy, who happens to be deaf but knows perfectly well what's going on and she knows she wants her new husband
Any Duchess Will Do by Tessa Dare: a duke's meddling mom demands he get married and he picks the first woman he sees, who happens to be a barmaid. There's a sex scene in this book approximately 70% of the way in that's very hot but also makes me cry and cry and cry every time I read it, 10/10 recommend it.
The Day of the Duchess by Sarah MacLean: Basically a novel-length grovel by a man (okay, a duke) to his wife who he cheated on because he thought she trapped him into marriage for money and power. Probably my favorite MacLean along with Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart
Notorious Pleasures by Elizabeth Hoyt: Perfect Georgian lady Hero Batten, the sister of a duke (whose book, Duke of Midnight is my favorite of the Maiden Lane series) starts an affair ... with her boring fiancé's wayward brother who she meets while he's having sex with another woman. You think it won't work but it does and I totally loved it.
That should get you started!!

Been working on a little something
I love my Harry Potter themed save file, but I don't always want to play with Harry Potter characters running around. So I'm taking some of those builds, and adding a LOT of new ones into a "Realistic" Save File.
You can download it (Just Willow Creek for now) at THIS LINK.
Willow Creek, of course, is designed after New Orleans. The townies are diverse, and the amenities are as immersive as I could think of.
Let's talk Neighborhoods, shall we?
First of all, we've got Crawdad Quarter - now designed after Bourbon Street. Complete with an oddities shop at the dead end.
Across from that big ol' church is Jackson Square Park. A great place for Sims to play chess, BBQ, sell some wares, or do some gardening.
Extending on the French Quarter theme is Foundry Cove.
Newlyweds Bryant and Lexie Spurlock live in the green bungalow behind the bar. Beside them is grumpy ol' Winston Rose, and across from them lives the eclectic Gael Tabor. Like the Spurlocks, Gael does his best to avoid Winston when he can. Which is pretty easy when he's always at his oddities shop in Crawdad Quarter.
Next on the map is Courtyard Lane, designed after the Gentilly area of New Orleans.
Paxton Easton, his daughter Sadie, and her cat live in the big ol' creole townhouse on the corner. Beside them are the Random Roommates who do a bunch of odd jobs in town. The Eastons don't interact with those four too much. In the small yellow bungalow on the other side live Chad, the actor, and Stephan, the interior designer, Doughty.
The best part of the neighborhood is the Vietnamese restaurant and bakery next to the empty house.
From there we go onto the historic Uptown District of Pendula View.
The first place you'll want to visit in this neighborhood is Lafayette Cemetary with its mysterious charm. Next you'll want to go to the bakery for some coffee and a croussant. After that, you'll enjoy a walk through the old streets.
The first house you'll come to from the bakery is that of the Coffeys. Roxanne is a serious lawyer, and her wife Tracey is a chef that owns/runs Brennan's restaurant in downtown. They have 3 kids - teenager Leigh, child Troy, and toddler Tyson.
The next house belongs to the Middletons. Professor Anton, his stay-at-home wife Nadine, and their teenage daughter Jordyn.
Finally you'll come to downtown, or Sage Estates as it's known in-game.
Brennan's restaurant is one of the best spots to impress a date in town. Down the street, the Contemporary Arts Center hosts a myriad of tools for artists to participate in the historic traditions of Willow Creek's music and street art scene.
All lots are available on the gallery under the id: phronetiq

Incoming Text for Tracey Edmonds (@traceyeedmonds):
Dear Tracey,
You have to admit it, though—you are a narcissistic, delusional woman. Would you agree with me on this topic?
You couldn’t control your tongue for the entire year of 2024. You made so many false allegations about me, and now, when you look at yourself in the mirror, tell me, what do you see? A narcissist who invented a fake romance with a man she never even met.
Can you answer this question? Have you ever met me? The answer is obviously “No.” So why would you invent these fake stories just to hype up your image?
I’m on the phone with Michael Jordan, Oprah, Barack Obama—you thought they were going to subdue me. But in the end, I subdued them. Why are they so quiet now? Can you tell me why they are refusing to face me in a court of law? Because I have the proof, and they don’t. Never forget that.
You and your team are a bunch of disrespectful egomaniacs, thinking the world revolves around you. Let me give you a reality check—it doesn’t.
Fuck you, Michael Jordan, and Obama as well—I’m with Trump.
All your team members are broke as fuck and weak as fuck.
No one gives a **** about Biden, Kamala, or Obama. They had a good run, but now they have to cry in silence because they will never seize power in America again. A bunch of crybabies, hating on Trump.
Trump is the only true warrior during this apocalypse. All these other Democrats have refused to fight the Anti-Christ. Trump is the only one fighting them. That’s why I’m team Trump.
As for Michael Jordan, I will not insult him because I was a fan of his skills when I was a teenager in 1994. I’ll let it slide.
Oprah as well—I’ll let it slide.
But Obama? He’s a hater, and you all need to check his hating because he thinks he still runs the world. We are in 2024, and he’s back to square one. Tell Obama to stay in his lane, go sell books on Amazon, and let us fight the Anti-Christ, because he’s obviously too chicken to fight him.
No one fears Obama. Tell him that hating on me has only resulted in exposing him as a fraud.
I fear no man. I’m fighting the Anti-Christ. Do you think I fear Obama?
Fuck him and his entire team.
No one gives a fuck about these haters. We will continue the resistance with or without Obama.
This is the apocalypse. The sooner you acknowledge this reality, the better your chances of survival.
The end of this conversation.
Angelo
P.S.:
Synopsis of the Letter:
In this confrontational letter, Angelo addresses Tracey Edmonds, accusing her of being a narcissistic and delusional woman who fabricated a fake romance with him. He emphasizes that they have never met and calls out her false narratives. Angelo also criticizes figures like Michael Jordan, Oprah, and Barack Obama, claiming to have subdued them and accusing them of avoiding him due to a lack of evidence.
He expresses his support for Donald Trump, portraying him as the only leader fighting against the Anti-Christ during an apocalyptic era, while dismissing Democrats like Obama, Biden, and Kamala as weak and irrelevant. Despite his harsh words, Angelo spares Michael Jordan and Oprah from further critique, acknowledging their past accomplishments. The letter concludes with Angelo reaffirming his fearlessness and commitment to "the resistance," urging Tracey and others to accept the apocalyptic reality.

I was bored so I drew Arrested Development characters as MLPs!
Sorry if some of the names suck/are boring, I tried my best, okay imagined tumblr user?? Like, I could not for the life of me think of a replacement for George and I wanted to keep the GOB acronym so...I just kept George.
Also, I drew some of them getting their cutie marks(and Buster's also there, just cause I wanted to draw him as a little baby, hehe).
#clarifying for Lucille's cutie mark cause i feel like hers might not be obvious#she was a USO girl and also seems to have some love for musical theater so I think dancing is something she'd have a cutie mark for#arrested development#michael bluth#gob bluth#lindsay bluth#buster bluth#lucille bluth#george bluth#maeby funke#george michael bluth#tobias funke#tony wonder#tracey lane#my little pony#mlp#fanart

After Gillingham’s 1-0 Home Defeat Against Grimsby Town At Priestfield Stadium, a result which ended Gillingham’s unbeaten home record in the league, and in-fact, you had to go back to Gillingham 0-2 Crawley Town On Boxing Day 2023 for the last time Gillingham had lost a home game in the league, Gillingham had the chance to respond to that setback with an away visit to The Mornflake Stadium as Gillingham took on Crewe Alexandra in League Two, and prior to this match kicking off, Gillingham were still top in League Two whilst Crewe Alexandra were twelfth and in mid-table.
However, rather then responding To The Grimsby Town defeat with a win against Crewe Alexandra - which is what we were hoping for - Crewe Alexandra won 2-0 against Gillingham ad Gillingham put in there worst performance in the league against A Crewe Alexandra Side who were missing several players due to injury, It was a result met with frustration and irritation amongst The Gillingham Supporters in the away end, and back to back defeats in the league without scoring a goal, and here are the five talking points from Gillingham’s 2-0 away defeat against Crewe Alexandra…..
ONE: INABILITY TO SCORE OR WIN FROM A LOSING POSITION - This was a stat that worked against Neil Harris, and ironically enough, Crewe Alexandra 2-0 Gillingham was Neil Harris’s final league game in-charge as Gillingham Manager, and Gillingham lose away against Crewe Alexandra by the same 2-0 score-line, all three matches that Gillingham have conceded the first goal in - Doncaster Rovers, Grimsby Town and Now Crewe Alexandra - have seen Gillingham not only concede the first goal, but Gillingham have not scored in all three matches and Gillingham have also lost all three league games where the opposition have scored first.
This stat is one that cannot continue if Gillingham want to be competing for the automatic promotion spots and the playoff position’s in League Two, because there are going to be matches where the opposition score first and Gillingham have got to find ways to draw and win league games from a losing position, and Gillingham found ways of winning matches from losing positions last season, Accrington Stanley, Notts County and Morecambe were three matches that Gillingham won from a losing position, would have been four had Swindon Town not scored a stoppage time equaliser for 2-2, but this stat is one that Gillingham have got to improve on going forwards, because it was a concerning stat amongst the fan-base last season, and if three league defeats when conceding the first goal continues throughout the season and there are six or seven defeats and Gillingham have not recovered from going a goal down, then talk about this stat will only increase and there be more genuine concerns whenever Gillingham go a goal down.
TWO: MISTAKES FOR BOTH GOALS - Gillingham have been excellent defensively this season, and the defence has been praised for defending a 1-0 lead against Chesterfield and Tranmere Rovers with ten men, and Gillingham went on to win the game 3-0 against Tranmere Rovers, and Gillingham put in a fantastic defensive performance to win 1-0 against Notts County at Meadow Lane and even in the season where Gillingham managed to retain our Football League Status, Gillingham had a strong defensive record which was much better then the other teams battling to avoid relegation at the bottom of League Two.
However, both goals were preventable, for the first goal, a mis-placed pass from Remeao Hutton see’s Shilow Tracey get on to the loose ball for Crewe Alexandra and run forwards in possession of the ball, and Shilow Tracey passes the ball through to Jack Lankester, who skips past Shadrach Ogie’s challenge far too easily before squaring the ball to Shilow Tracey who scores a simple tap in to give Crewe Alexandra the lead, and for that first goal, the defending from Shadrach Ogie has got to be way better, show Jack Lankester down the line, prevent that cross from coming across the face of goal, and it’s a poor pass from Remeao Hutton, poor defending from Shadrach Ogie, and Crewe Alexandra have scored the opening goal when Gillingham have put in a very encouraging performance in the opening stages of the match.
And for the second goal, One of Max Ehmer or Shadrach Ogie have got to compete with Adrien Thibaut on the halfway line, and Adrien Thibaut somehow keeps possession of the ball, passes the ball out-wide to Shilow Tracey, and Shilow Tracey works his way into a shooting position before picking out the far left corner of the net with a fantastic strike which goes in off the post for 2-0, and at 2-0, Crewe Alexandra are in a commanding position to pick up all three points, But Max Clark, who put in one of his worst performances in A Gillingham Shirt, has got to stay tighter with Shilow Tracey and prevent that effort on goal, it’s not good defending from Gillingham to prevent Shilow Tracey from scoring for Crewe Alexandra, and preventing Adrien Thibaut from retaining possession of the ball on the halfway line, and poor defending is not the words to be used to describe Gillingham’s defensive performances this season, and Gillingham have got to find ways of getting our defence back to what it was doing for the majority of the early part of the season, which was keeping clean sheets and giving the opposition very few opportunities to score.
THREE: GLENN MORRIS KEPT THE SCORE-LINE RESPECTABLE - Gillingham lost 2-0 against Crewe Alexandra, but the score-line would have been 4-0 or 5-0 had it not been for Glenn Morris, Because Glenn Morris had made three saves to prevent Adrien Thibaut, Joel Tabiner and Matúš Holíček from scoring and putting the match beyond all doubt, because it only would take a goal from Gillingham and Gillingham are back in this match at 2-1 down, and Crewe Alexandra start to get nervous in the closing stages of the match.
And there is nothing that Glenn Morris could have done about either goal conceded against Crewe Alexandra, his saves kept the score-line down, kept Gillingham in the match so that if Gillingham were to score late on, then at 2-1 down and in the closing stages of the match, then Gillingham could have pushed for a late equaliser, and whilst Gillingham lost 2-0 and put in a very dreadful performance against Crewe Alexandra, Glenn Morris can leave the pitch with his head held high with his goalkeeping performance for Gillingham.
FOUR: GILLINGHAM NOT CLINICAL IN-FRONT OF GOAL - Gillingham had nineteen efforts at goal against Crewe Alexandra and that is an incredible number of efforts on goal away from home, however, only one of those efforts on goal was on target, and that was Elliott Nevitt’s one on one effort which was saved by Filip Marschall and Joe Gbode’s follow up effort goes over the crossbar, Jayden Clarke had an effort on goal which bounced up off the turf and went over the crossbar, Ethan Coleman had an effort on goal blocked before seeing his follow up effort comfortably fail to hit the target.
Jack Nolan had an effort on goal brilliantly blocked by Mickey Demetriou, Elliott Nevitt’s shot on the turn went wide, and the latter two were good efforts on goal, but there were other efforts on goal, particularly in the second half which were a complete waste, like the follow up effort from Ethan Coleman after his initial effort on goal had been blocked, Crewe Alexandra only had nine efforts on goal, but six were on target, and Glenn Morris had made three or four very good saves to keep the score-line respectable, and Gillingham just were not clinical in-front of goal, and when we do create decent clear cut goal-scoring opportunities, Gillingham are not taking those chances, and Gillingham were taking those chances when they came our way earlier on in the season.
FIVE: NOT GETTING THE BEST OUT OF ELLIOTT NEVITT AND JACK NOLAN - Gillingham signed Elliott Nevitt and Jack Nolan in the summer to address our lack of fire-power from last season, both players scored eighteen and seventeen goals respectively in The 2023 / 2024 season, and Jack Nolan created thirteen assist’s to go alongside those seventeen goals, But we’re currently ten games into The League Two Season, and Jack Nolan and Elliott Nevitt have scored two league goals between them, and Elliott Nevitt has scored for Gillingham in The Football League Trophy, so three goals scored between two attacking players who scored a combined thirty five goals for Crewe Alexandra and Accrington Stanley in League Two in the previous season.
And some supporters are making the point that Jack Nolan is being played out of position, that theory goes out of the window when you take into consideration that Jack Nolan was creating thirteen assist’s and scoring seventeen goals for Accrington Stanley playing as a right winger, and Elliott Nevitt lead the line for Crewe Alexandra in a 4-2-3-1 formation, so both players are playing in there respective positions that they played for Crewe Alexandra and Accrington Stanley, but have not hit the heights we have hoped for so far in A Gillingham Shirt.
Do both players still need time to adjust to life at Gillingham Football Club ??? - Are we giving both players the service and supply that they are looking for ??? - given that Elliott Nevitt and Jack Nolan have scored three combined goals between them at Gillingham Football Club, you have to say no, are Gillingham over-relying on The Remeao Hutton and Jack Nolan combination down the right side of the pitch, and we are basically playing the ball down that side of the pitch all the time ???
Should Gillingham have signed a left winger with pace who is a guaranteed starter so that someone of decent quality can be an attacking threat down the left which opens up more space for Elliott Nevitt and Jack Nolan to be able to create and score more goals ??? - Because Jayden Clarke has improved massively from last season to this, with three goals scored so far this season, but could Gillingham have done with signing A Andy Barcham, Myles Weston, Elliott List type of player, someone with just out and out pace and ability down that left side to not only provide more goals and assist’s from that side of the pitch, but also, give more space for Elliott Nevitt and Jack Nolan to be more of a threat in the final third ???
ADDITIONAL COMMENT
IMPACT FROM JOE GBODE - One player who tried to make an impact from the substitutes bench was Joe Gbode, Because Joe Gbode came on for Gillingham in the seventy eighth minute, and Joe Gbode uses his pace to go past The Crewe Alexandra Full Back, Joe Gbode had an effort on goal which failed to hit the target after Elliott Nevitt’s initial effort on goal was saved by Filip Marschall, and Joe Gbode was trying to make things happen with the limited time on the pitch, and after his cameo appearance, many supporters were saying post match that Joe Gbode needs to be starting for Gillingham because he is at least trying to make things happen by trying to take players on.

The Young V&A in east London has won the prestigious Art Fund Museum of the Year award, fighting off competition from the National Portrait Gallery to win the £120,000 prize.
Judges described the museum as a “truly inspirational” institution that engaged with the local community of Bethnal Green and radically rethought the museum with young people in mind.
Jenny Waldman, the director of Art Fund, said: “The Young V&A has done something completely rare, it’s completely reimagined the museum. It started with its target audience and then it fit all the pieces of the museum – the building, the collection, display, interpretation, exhibitions, learning – around that central focus of young people. It’s the world’s most joyful museum.”
Its previous incarnation as the Museum of Childhood was described as “a place where childhood went to die”, inhabited by rows of Victorian doll’s houses that were designed for older visitors to “take a trip down memory lane”.
The renovated building, which had a three-year makeover at a cost of £13m, was a different proposition all together: light, airy and playful or, as the Observer called it, “serious and playful at once, sophisticated and direct”.
Waldman said that, even on an incredibly impressive shortlist, the Young V&A stood out with ideas such as, in the 0-5 years area, the curators grouped items together by colour to be more accessible to young minds.
“It’s mind-blowing, a brilliant concept perfectly executed,” she said.
The Young V&A was among a shortlist of institutions which had undergone extensive renovations in the last few years.
The National Portrait Gallery’s £41.3m makeover, which took three years and included Tracey Emin-commissioned doors that serve as the new entrance, was in the running, as was the Manchester Museum, which reopened after a £15m refit in 2022 and included a new South Asian gallery. A partnership with the British Museum, it was co-curated by 31 people from Manchester’s South Asian diaspora – who were “just ordinary folk, not museum folk”, according to its director, Esme Ward.
There were also nominations for Dundee Contemporary Arts in its 25th year, and the tiny Craven Museum in Skipton that was helped by a local authority that increased its funding rather than cutting, which has been the pattern around much of the UK.
Before the shortlist was announced, Waldman called for greater financial support for the museum sector, telling the Sunday Times that investment in museums was “contracting in a very worrying way”.
“Museums, local authorities and the national government all need to think together about how to empower museums to create the conditions for people and communities to thrive,” Waldman said. “Museums are absolutely up for it, they’re already doing incredible work.”
The new culture secretary, Lisa Nandy, said: “This year’s Art Fund Museum of the Year was a tough competition with an exciting shortlist representing institutions from across the country. Congratulations to the Young V&A on this achievement, recognising their hard work to create a unique space dedicated to young people.”
The Young V&A opened a year ago, and is part of the Victoria and Albert Museum empire, along with London’s V&A in South Kensington, plus outposts in Dundee and another at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in east London, which is due to open next year with an inaugural exhibition about Black British music.
The new Young V&A contained architectural references pulling from postmodernist architects Hans Hollein and Michael Graves, while the renovation was the work of two different architectural practices: De Matos Ryan and AOC.
For a project located in the heart of east London’s Bethnal Green, the architects consulted children from the nearby Bangabandhu and Globe primary schools and Morpeth secondary school for their ideas.
The result was a fun, colourful and tactile space that one critic said had become one of “London’s great indoor public spaces, a British Museum great court ruled by the under-15s”.

Dangerous Rhythms (USA) Issue #10, Summer 1989
While on tour this February in support of their beloved Tender Prey record, this interview took place in a room full of Bad Seeds in Washington, D.C. giving Nick plenty of support in creating a world of fantasy as the conclusion of this would prove to anyone who saw him at the sold out N.Y. Ritz show.
DANGEROUS RYTHMS: Among the new projects, there's a Die Haut record you sing on?
NICK CAVE: Yeah.
D.R.: What's the name of the song?
Nick: I Just Dropped In To See What Condition My Condition Was In
D.R.: You're doing a Neil Young covers project too?
Nick: Well, we did a Neil Young cover record for Neil Young, yeah. Helpless.
D.R.: Didn't they originally ask you to do The Needle and The Damage Done?
Nick: They did ask.
D.R.: So all the Bad Seeds are on it. There's another record you're on, the Anita Lane record.
Nick: Which one?
D.R.: There's a new one out on Mute that I can't find anywhere.
Nick: The new one, the second one?
D.R.: I didn't even know there was a first.
Nick: Well you mean the first one, the original one, Dirty Secrets it's called. No, I'm not on that.
D.R.: You're on the second one, right?
Nick: There is no second one.
D.R.: There is no second one?
Nick: I don't know what you're talking about.
D.R.: Of all the people you worked with, you got your Mom to play on Kicking Against the Pricks.
Nick: Well, there was some other people who played on it as well. Mick played on it.
D.R.: Well, I know, so did a lot of people, but I'm interested in how you got your Mom to play on it.
Nick: Well, she's a violinist. She's one of Australia's top violinists.
D.R.: Has she seen your records and seen you live even?
Nick: Yup.
D.R.: In Australia, right?
Nick: Yeah.
D.R.: The Atra Virago, that was something from And The Ass Saw The Angel. When's that coming out?
Nick: The Atra Virago?
D.R.: Well, I know that's out on a Giorno compilation, I was wondering when the books going to be...
Nick: The book's coming out in June.
D.R.: There was a Honeymoon in Red album. Well, that was between Junkyard and The Bad Seed, right?
Nick: What's The Junkyard, is that an album?
D.R.: Rat Fink on the cover, if you don't want to talk about the Birthday Party...
Nick: No, no, no, no. When did the Birthday Party break-up, between what records?
MICK HARVEY: '83. Between Mutiny and From Her To Eternity, right?
D.R.: Well, Mutiny was after you guys split, right?
Nick: Then how did it get made?
D.R.: The Press at the time indicated...
Nick: The press...
D.R.: You have a general distrust towards the press.
Mick: We recorded the record before we broke-up.
Nick: Yeah, of course, we didn't do it by post- or...
D.R.: Well Rowland was out of the band when it finished, though. And Tracey went back to art school, I think it was.
Nick: Tracey didn't go to art school.
D.R.: But he went back to Australia.
Nick: He went back to Australia, yeah, but he didn't go to art school.
D.R.: And he died of epilepsy?
Nick: No, I think he died of epifore, which is different.
D.R.: Are you undertaking any other writing projects after And The Ass Saw The Angel?
Nick: Novel writing? Possibly. I don't really know yet. I don't know if I could start another book right now. I've just finished this one.
D.R.: Is it finished?
Nick: Yeah, pretty well.
D.R.: You did something on an Annie Hogan record called Vivo? Was that something you engineered through Marc Almond?
Nick: No, that's Annie Hogan's records.
D.R.: On Marc Almond's new record, Something's Gotten Hold Of My Heart, was that inspired by your version of that Gene Pitney song?
Nick: Yeah. I don't know. I didn't record it, Marc Almond did.
Mick: Well, Jessamy told me that he had never even heard that song until he heard our version.
Nick: There you go, a scoop.
D.R.: Jessamy Calkin, does she work with you in any other aspect than photography?
Nick: Photography, Jessamy Calkin?
D.R.: Yeah, she took photos for the From Her To Eternity album.
Nick: Did she? Yeah, she's a friend of ours.
Mick: She's our biographer.
Nick: Yeah, she's our biographer. She's writing the story.
D.R.: On the From Her to Eternity album, you wrote a song called Wings Off Flies with Clint Ruin and this guy named Sutcliffe. Who is Sutcliffe?
Mick: The Yorkshire Ripper.
Nick: Yeah, the Yorkshire Ripper. Peter Sutcliffe. Peter Sutcliffe is the Yorkshire Ripper.
D.R.: And he helped write the music for that?
Nick: No, no, no. He helped write the lyrics for that before he got caught. I'll tell you straight up, before he got caught.
D.R.: Think you're going to work with Clint Ruin on anything?
Nick: Clint, are we?
Mick: No.
Nick: No.
D.R.: But he basically hooked up with you guys after seeing your band like 50 times?
Nick: Yeah.
Mick: Yeah, he was a big Birthday Party fan. He actually came to see us as The Boys Next Door.
D.R.: Did he set up The Immaculate Consumptive with you?
Nick: No.
D.R.: How was that engineered?
Nick: I set that up I think. Actually, I think Lydia set that up.
D.R.: The latest Bad Seed is Roland Wolf. Was he in any other bands?
Nick: Roland, were you in any other bands?
Roland Wolf: No.
Nick: A virgin.
D.R.: You met him in Berlin?
Nick: Yup.
D.R.: The Wings Of Desire movie that you got involved in with Wim Wenders. Was he just looking for musicians and you just volunteered your band to perform in it?
Nick: Yeah.
D.R.: All right...The Carny was pre-recorded, but you did do one song live for that.
Nick: Yes. From Her To Eternity.
D.R.: Were you in, like, an Alex Harvey frame of mind when you did The Carny? You must have had some kind of reflection on that whole epic kind of thing that he was doing. I'm not saying it was a blatant rip-off or anything, but as a kind of an influence.
Nick: You're suggesting it was a blatant rip-off.
D.R.: If you want.
Nick: No, I don't want. You mean The Tale of the Giant Stone Eater?
D.R.: Yeah, exactly.
Nick: No, not at all.
D.R.: But a lot of the covers you do like Tim Rose, I found it peculiar that both Einstuerzende and you picked songs from the same Tim Rose album.
Nick: His album. (points to Blixa) He bought the record and we just copied off him. He has all the ideas in the group. That's 'cause he's German.
D.R.: Have you ever played in Africa?
Nick: Yup, Zimbabwe.
D.R.: Would you ever like to play in Russia, or any place like that?
Nick: No.
D.R.: You're making this very difficult.
Nick: Why?
D.R.: You're bobbing your head and you're giving me one-word answers. But as far as Birthday Party songs you've recorded with The Bad Seeds, you've only did Mutiny live, and the other was Six Strings. Those are the only things you want to get out of those memories, huh?
Nick: Well, I think you retain favorable memories about things if you don't overwork them.
D.R.: What's the most favorable aspect of that?
Nick: About The Birthday Party? I don't know...
D.R.: Contacts you've made through the years, that sort of thing?
Nick: No, I don't know. That was a part of my youth. It's hard to separate my youth from The Birthday Party.
D.R.: When you see a lot of these bands these days, that go up on stage and are doing their Nick Cave's, does that really offend you, or are you flattered, or what?
Nick: I don't understand it. I look at them and I watch it and I just don't understand it.
D.R.: Are you trying to get away from that old image?
Nick: No. It wasn't an image.
D.R.: Well, the image you projected to them, or at least what they saw you as.
Nick: I'm just growing, I'm just older now. More mature.
D.R.: How many more albums do you think you have in you before you say you're through with music?
Nick: About another twelve.
D.R.: Do you have a lifetime pact with Mute?
Nick: Yeah, until we die. We have to make an album a year until we die.
D.R.: Can you talk them into signing Die Haut?
Nick: I think they've already tried that. Daniel Miller's a tyrant. He's the Hitler of the independent record concept.
D.R.: Are there any cities in this country that you like to play more than others?
Nick: No.
D.R.: Do you have the same basic set every night?
Nick: No.
D.R.: Are we going to get a different set tonight?
Nick: No.
D.R.: How many years has it been since you've done These Boots Are Made For Walking?
Nick: We're going to do that tomorrow night in New York.
D.R.: Really.
Nick: And we're doing quite a few Birthday Party songs tomorrow night. Yeah, Deep In The Woods, we're going to do Sonny's Burning, it's going to be a great show tomorrow night, huh?
Mick: Right on!
Nick: We're doing about six Birthday Party songs, aren't we? And you're going to miss it, too.
D.R.: No I'm not.
Nick: Well, I mean, if you want to hear us do some Birthday Party stuff, you should come up to New York. We're going to do Deep In The Woods, Hamlet, in fact, it's going to be a Birthday Party request show. You just have to yell out your favorite Birthday Party song and we'll play it.
D.R.: You don't do Mutiny anymore.
Nick: Yeah, we're going to do that as well.
D.R.: You've been known to play games with the Press. Do you have a particular hate for Matt Snow? Scum. This guy must have really irked you to no end. The song is just a hate letter to him.
Nick: I lived with him. That was a song about all journalists, really.
D.R.: What would it take to get a journalists respect from you? Would they have to be a war correspondent or something?
Nick: Yeah, possibly. A sports writer, possibly. So there you go, that's the story.

let's go with 8
8. Pansy/Hermione makeover
let's go with the most, uh, explicitly makeover-y section! this one is just a lot of fragments that don't really cohere and several of the others are weird or absurdly melodramatic
Pansy made a disgusted noise and grabbed Hermione’s arm. “You are not even remotely plain. Frumpy I will grant, but that is easily remedied. Come on, we’re going shopping.” “Shopping?” Hermione squeaked. “Wait, you don’t even like me!” She tried to pull her arm free, but Pansy had a surprisingly strong grip and was undeterred in towing her down Diagon Alley towards the entrance to Bespoke Lane. Pansy threw a scathing glance back over her shoulder at her. “I dislike men who treat beautiful women badly a lot more than I dislike you for insisting on being the cleverest suckup in the entire school.” Hermione almost stopped still in the middle of the street in shock at the compliments from Pansy Parkinson of all people—however oblique and backhanded they might have been—but Pansy was still pulling her along, so she merely stumbled, looking thunderstruck. “I’m not a beautiful woman,” she protested. Pansy scoffed again. “I have eyes, Granger. You have a ridiculously luscious figure under those oversized clothes, perpetual sex hair that you try and hide under, and cheekbones that Morag or Tracey would kill for under those ink smears. You just don’t know how to present yourself.”
