#I find the comparison to the Adam and Eve story quite interesting #I also find it interesting that they evolved into human-like creatures before the food they ate started changing them #I wonder if it has something to do with the demons greed #perhaps they all had blood like Mujika but them eating whatever made them lose it after a few generations?? #maybe that's why they changed their God system it started worshiping him instead of the gods Mujika and Sonju worship bc they felt forsaken #also them murdering those who still had the special blood for vaguely religious reasons kinda like our history ? #idk just some thoughts (via @silentstudiosyt)
Based on the mystic code book Q&A from earlier, it sounds like the push to the new faith was almost entirely manufactured for the convenience of the demon nobility in order to maintain the social stratification of demon society rather than genuine widespread doubt in the original faith.
(Chapter 142)
And the demon god goes along with it because, as Emma notes, he's a whimsical/capricious one due to his longevity.
I frequently forget this due to it not being openly discussed in the text, but compare the village the Seven Walls search party walks through in chapter 103
to what we see the demon nobility use to travel to the imperial capital in chapter 140
The Bayon clan traverses by what looks like a steam locomotive while the Noum clan has…one that hovers or flies? Or it's a demon that looks conveniently shaped like one.
While we don't know if to work at one of the farms the demon staff have to relocate their entire families
(Mystic Code Book Chapter 7 Q&A)
There is some prestige attached to it, even at the mass production farm level. It seems like outside of the farms and nobles' estates, technological advancements have purposely been withheld from the general demon population into the 2040s as another means of controlling them. If you're too busy just trying to survive, there's less chance of a revolt and upending the status quo.
With how Norman explains it in chapter 120, the demons were evolving based on what they ate since early on in their existence as a species
before eventually stumbling across humans.
Prior to the promise being forged, they theoretically had unrestricted access to humans, so to tie into the framing of Mujika as a unique messianic figure and human intelligence as the pinnacle for demons to acquire and maintain, their degeneration/warped appearance is predominantly treated as the fault of the demon nobility's draconian regulation of their world's food supply.
(Chapter 132 | Chapter 164)
I do think you can explore the demons' waning belief in the original faith due to them collectively losing their genetic stability as a species either entirely separate from the manipulations of the upper echelons for their own sociopolitical gain or making them more amenable to it since Shirai does spend some pages acknowledging how they were complicit with the system due to the comforts it afforded them, comparatively scant as they were
(Chapter 175)
However, much more time is spent developing empathy for the plight of the average demon
(Chapter 49 | Chapter 130)
and criticizing those with power at the macrolevel for manufacturing consent and scarcity in the face of new developments that would be objectively good for society
(Chapter 147 - "All they care about is their profits.")
that I'd hesitate to phrase it simply as the collective demons' greed that led to this for falling into the more generic anime racism S2 falls into with Norman attacking a random village instead of pointedly targeting the capital.
#Something more interesting to me is the fact the snake is crossed out while the beetle isn't #Pretty sure you can't perform Gupna on an insect. There's no blood to drain the flower wouldn't bloom #You could argue maybe they don't really see insects as 'meat' #But considering the beetle's lined up with the other animals here I really don't think that's the case #Anyway point is from what Sonju tells us eating insects is probably against the Old Faith #So this whole 'no snakes' thing probably wasn't carried over from it and instead originated after the Promise #(if we assume it's a cultural/religious thing.) #(The existence of snake-like demons doesn't eliminate the possibility of snakes being biologically unviable) #(There's a lot of animals they could eat to end up like that. Lampreys worms caecilians etc.) #But I disgress. I'm not a theologist or anything just pointing out something i found weird. (via @darklight-owl)
With the visual representation for the splitting of the two worlds in chapter 48's cover art being an apple (even if it isn't actually the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden)
on top of the aforementioned framing of Mujika as a messianic figure and Emma falling into this as well, I wouldn't be surprised if Shirai opted for symbolism over biological realities on this particular matter since its not pressing to the narrative.
And you're right that it would something that came about after the promise
(Chapter 46 | Chapter 157)
Sonju says he and Mujika will eat anything else besides cattle children, though it seems like he has a preference for creatures he can hunt due to the spiritual aspect of it for him.
i want to see people to be talking about this panel in the promised neverland
tpn theory type stuff below cut
google search and stuff has gotten pretty bad so that might be why i'm struggling so much to find theories on this but omg it's a little frustrating because this is the coolest panel.
for anyone that doesn't remember, this was at the demon temple that showed them how to reach the seven walls.
there's one specific thing here that interests me the most, and it's the main reason i think this panel is so interesting, but there's so many other significant things to discuss here so i'll just get through some quickly.
at the top we see what i think is almost definitely the night and day, and the demon god. there're then lines pointing to the beginning of the evolution tree with the small bacteria-like first demons. i think this is telling us that the demon god is the originator of all of the demons. that's pretty huge?? i haven't heard anyone ever talk about that. i don't think this is far-fetched at all too. i strongly believe in this theory.
under the bacteria-like demons are these bipedal, horned, almost human-like demons. i'm less sure about what these are and i think this is more up for debate but i'm guessing these are a slightly evolved form of the first demons from eating lots of small things and slowly working their way a little up the food chain. with slight variations probably from slightly different diets.
under that, we see the demon evolution that we are familiar with.
they eat a fish, they become a fish-like demon. they eat a human, they become the familiar human-like demon. they eat bugs or other small wild creatures, they become the also familiar wild demon. (side note: we know humanoid demons also eat bugs alongside humans which is interesting. what unique affect to bugs have on them?)
it's showing us what the demons will evolve into after eating certain organisms. it all seems to align with what we know from normans research so far.
except for one thing. this is the thing that interests me more than anything else.
UNDER THE SNAKE CREATURE THERE'S JUST AN X.
WHY TF CANT THEY EAT SNAKES.
i don't think we ever get even a hint towards what this could mean in the manga.
gonna be real, i think even if i tried to look for patterns myself, i wouldn't know enough about biology to find much. i don't know much of anything about biology. i think the only thing i take away from this is that for some reason they can't eat snakes.
this stuff intrigues me so much and i just wish i could find more theories out there on this. rahhhh it's so cool. i just want an answer.
oh wait also what is this thing i dunno
honestly i can't make it out
anyway thanks for reading, i don't post about TPN but i just finished rereading all 20 volumes. i probably won't post about it again i just want to get this out

182 Days of TPN - Day 132
Chapter 132: "Punitive Expedition"
Oh, Leg's long nails/fingers actually just bend in a crazy way? This whole time I thought they were retractable.
Shame that Barbara doesn't receive any power boosts from eating all those demons she snacks on. I know it wouldn't make sense but imagine. That would be a twist. And luckily for us Norman had that level of intelligence from the start. If they think boss & the Lambda crew are troublesome now, just wait til they add in all the Adam clones and put that drug into effect.
Haven't been keeping track, but feels like it's been a while since we've seen some death flag butterflies.
This owl deserves many treats for doing its job.
How exactly did you guys make it seem like demons destroyed all those farms? Because of the amount of damage you caused perhaps? Maybe that's why the aristocrats don't suspect humans since they view us as weak, I dunno.
They won't find paradise yet. Unfortunately Peter is quite determined to keep his deal with Legs.
RE & their "yeahs." I can't blame them for being flabbergasted by the sight in front of them though. It's definitely not a place they would ever wanna return to by choice.
Favorite panel/moment:
The perfect "aw shit, here we go again" moment. Welcome home, you two.

Okay remember that colour page with Emma hanging on to some kind of bridge-like thing with Conny's bunny on her other hand? Yeah. I just realised if you flip the page upside down you can see a gate AND THERE ARE TINY HUMANS HANGING ON TO IT/CLIMBING IT?!??!?! PLEASE EXPAND YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS and how THis is similar to the colour page with the staircase and Gilda being upside down
Let me answer your question with my newest theory on the
Alice in Wonderland Motifs in The Promised Neverland
Prepare yourself for a wild ride here. You will most likely get mindblown and think “why didn’t I think of this before?!”. This had all been there right from the start, and none (as far as I know) noticed…So let me start this off with a little summary of how Alice in Wonderland begins:
Alice was living a carefree, but (peacefully) dull life until one day her world was turned upside down when she decided to chase after a white rabbit with a pocket watch. Hmmm hmm, didn’t I say in my previous post on Gracefield items that there was a bit more to the “pocket watch” than just it being a tracker? Oh yeah, because we DO. HAVE. A. WHITE. RABBIT.
Oh, yeah, and the whole bloody adventure started because of it!
You may cry coincidence here even if you notice the glaringly obvious watch on the neck of Little Bunny (or its posh waistcoat…), so let me continue on.So remember that I also said before that Carol’s name had some importance? Or that Alicia’s stuffed toy was noted also for a reason? Well, you know who wrote Alice in Wonderland?
LEWIS CARROLL!!Are you (mentally) screaming yet? No? Okay, so remember that Alicia’s toy is a cat? Well, you should also remember that Alice’s favourite pet was a cat as well.
But you know, these are just some odd references so far, so how about we look at some other characters? Like… doesn’t Lewis kind of ring a bell to you? Hm, what was so distinctive about him again? Well, he was a bit crazy, but you could always recognise him from his HAT, RIGHT?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Alice in Wonderland have someone called the MAD HATTER?!
Also, remember the Mad Hatter’s teaparty? It was one heck of a chaos, but what about his friends that he happily shared his tea with (note that in the original British language version tea can also mean lunch/dinner)? The March Hare (not to be confused with the White Rabbit) and the Dormouse. Isn’t it interesting that our hat wearing Leuvis was so close with Lord Bayon and the little Parvus?
Haha, I hope now you can’t get the image of Bayon with bunny ears out of your head either!.Actually, you know what, wasn’t Alice’s Wonderland kind of a messed up place and experience for her? Even though it was meant to be her happy place? Hm, isn’t that a little bit like the Goldy Pond experience? I have always thought it looked like a creepy theme park tbh.
But if you think I am going to stop here, you are wrong… because we haven’t talked about the Cheshire Cat yet! This confusing creature was the first thing that Alice had an intelligent conversation with, and he also explained the rules of Wonderland to Alice. Wasn’t that nice of him? Kinda a bit like how Son-ju explained about the Promise to Emma, no? How about the Cheshire Cat’s grin? Didn’t Son-ju have a nice, toothy grin? Also, kind of a fluffy mane if you ask me.
GUYS HAVE YOU NOTICED THAT SON-JU HAS TABBY STRIPES?! I am so done in by laughing about that!.Lets not forget however the first being that helped Alice in Wonderland: the Caterpillar. Alice was at first suspicious of it, and a bit rude, but eventually she figured out that the caterpillar was just pretty nice and helpful to her. Oh right, I seem to recall Emma being a bit suspicious of Mujika at first, but then receiving some pretty handy advice and help from her!
At this stage, the visual resemblances are not even subtle, right?.
However, let me admit that I have only had an eureka moment after reading chapter 132, and noticing this resemblance:
The situation is a bit unclear to me if Legravalima is meant to be the Red Queen or the Queen of Hearts. These two characters are separate, and often get confused, see the explanation here:
The Queen of Hearts was shown to be a quick to anger, passionate person. Since we see Legravalima’s hair resemble a rose, she may be a reference to the Queen of Hearts, who had people’s heads chopped off for painting roses red. However, Legravalima also acts cooly, and the Red Queen is a lot more like that. While the Queen of Hearts was a card, the Red Queen was a chess piece. With all the recent chess images, I am reminded of the following:
However, I haven’t yet answered the original question about that colourspread. Well, the answer is very simple actually.
It’s the Rabbit Hole that Alice falls down in.
Just in case you missed it, I have included a couple more connected images, and have circled Little Bunny on each and every one of them (you can also see Carol’s doll on some of those). Yepp, it is the rabbit hole. It’s the tunnel that leads to a different world in Alice in Wonderland, and so it is in the Promised Neverland. In response to your previous questions about the well in Gracefield’s yard, in Alice in Wonderland, the rabbit hole leads to what is described as a “really really deep well”. So this may be the other significance of the well.Since I was unable to finish this post before the spoilers dropped for chapter 133, you can find my thoughts on them, and how they fit if you read below the cut
So in chapter 132 we entered the Seven Walls, and it looks like we are finally in for a full Alice in Wonderland trippy experience in chapter 133! I kind of knew as soon as I saw Gracefield, as my previous theories have connected it to the tunnel. There are two motifs that instantly strike out at me: Emma falling, and Ray being shrunk down. Both of these things happen to Alice as well.
The chapter ends with Emma and Ray staring down a hole to a pantry. This actually seems like the rabbit hole proper to me. The Alice in Wonderland novel describes the rabbit hole having endless shelves and cupboards on the walls with various things on them. It is noted that Alice takes a jar of marmalade from a shelf, then places it back to another while she falls. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some marmalade in chapter 134 after all of this now!
So yepp, let’s see our kids fall down the rabbit hole in chapter 134!
The interesting thing to note about Alice in Wonderland is that Wonderland is all imagined by Alice. That seems to be just like my theory on demon!God using its powers of imagination to create the demon world! ;D
Ok, that’s it folks for today, hope you enjoyed it!

They have an idea of where the headquarters are? That’s not great.
Well that is an incredibly worrying amount of demons, though from the looks of it, it seems Norman has someone keeping an eye on the place.
Chessmaster Norman has keikaku’d his dori.

TPN chapter 132 review
I'm am so ready like BRING IT ONNNNNN!!!!!
So the demon meeting goes on, and I just want to say that I really like her look. It's so regal and evil, and her mask reminds me a little of Musica's. I bet she has some badass powers or something.
And Norman's plan is in full swing! I wonder how they'll fight massive demon armies with just a few of them. Plus I really want to see what Tafari is so I'm looking forward!
But oh my god this last page... I turned it way too quick, but I wasn't really surprised because they did mention it a long time ago (I completely forgot when). I was really impressed with Posuka's art again, more specifically how they draw angles. I've posted about it before about the reveal of Isabella's knife manga vs anime, and how it's so much scarier. This one is the same. It's a grand reveal and slightly tilted to make the reader feel uneasy. It's amazing.
Should I do more manga highlights in the future?
rachel
