On Tuesday, we drove 11 hours down here, to Topsail Beach, North Carolina, for a week in a rental house on the beach. Figured I will post my inspiration pics for my custom dyed shawl. I actually asked three different weavers to do their spin on these pics. Love seeing their interpretations.

A spritsail on the bowsprit, two square sails on the foremast, one square sail on the mainmast, and a lateen sail on the mizzenmast. Mainmast seems to also have a furled up mainsail below, and a yard maybe for a topgallant above (but not much more space to raise it).

I really wish Rogue had subtitles for Shay's throwaway sailing lines, like the ones where he's yelling out commands, because it took me forever to figure out he was saying "tops'ls". Which turns out is just really niche abbreviated sailor speak for "topsails" (how the heck would you clock that if you're not already into sailing)

I feel like having it written out would be helpful because for years I've been wondering what a "topsall" is supposed to be 🫠
