Leave the World Behind (O-Ton)...

...lässt eine Familie einen spontanen Airbnb-Urlaub in einer schmucken Villa beginnen, der sehr schnell zum Alptraum wird, als der Besitzer des Hauses mitsamt Tochter auftaucht und nebenher die Welt unterzugehen scheint.

Der Film jongliert im Folgenden mit sehr vielen schweren Themen, ist einerseits eine psychologische Charakterstudie von Menschen in Extremsituationen und andererseits eine durchaus schlaue Auseinandersetzung mit den uns wohl bis zur Apokalypse beschäftigenden Themen Klassismus und Rassismus, wobei er sich als drittes Motiv mehr und mehr in einen Symbolismus und Theorien, die Verschwörungsideen mehr als nur streifen, vertieft, eine bewusst gesetzte Irritation, von der ich bis heute nicht in Gänze weiß, was ich davon halten soll. Was ich "Leave the World Behind" sehr hoch anrechne ist, dass er es schafft, eine komplett ureigene Atmosphäre zu schaffen, die nie so verstört wie Lynch in seinen fiebrigsten Momenten, aber eine latente Unruhe schafft, die mich mit jeder verstreichenden Minute mehr in den Film sog - so sehr mir das teilweise sehr kunstikunstige Spiel mit Kameraeinstellungen und der überdramatische Soundtrack zu Beginn noch auf den Keks gingen, so sehr musste ich nach und nach anerkennen, dass es genau diese Mittel waren, die das Ganze mehr und mehr fesselnd werden und bleiben ließen. Es hilft natürlich auch, dass hier ein absoluter Topcast aufspielt, wobei es fast schon gemein ist, wie sehr der wie eigentlich immer in seiner komplett eigenen Liga spielende Mahershala Ali eine Kollegschaft deklassiert, die aus riesenhaften Namen wie Roberts, Hawk und Bacon besteht.

Ich hoffe, es wird klar: "Leave the World Behind" hat sehr viel, was für ihn spricht, und dennoch war ich nach der Sichtung eher befremdet als begeistert. Kunst ist immer auch politisch, und sei es nur deswegen, weil sie ein Produkt ihrer Zeit und als solche auch immer Chronistin derselben ist. Dieser Film begnügt sich nicht mit zaghaften Andeutungen, es ist voll von teils biblischen, teils sehr weltlichen Hinweisen und Schubsern, die mal kaum sichtbar nebenher ablaufen - ich sage nur Wellenbild im Schlafzimmer - und mal mit dem Zaunpfahl gar nicht mehr nur winken, sondern ihn den geneigten Zusehenden um die Ohren hauen. Und hier beginnt das Ganze, schwammig zu werden: ein eindeutiger, Horroraction gewordener Diss gegen Elon Musk? Warum nicht, auch wenn es wie hier gezeigt nicht der Gipfel an Subtilität ist. Schwieriger ist da schon Alis Monolog über irgendeine Form der Weltverschwörung, die so ziemlich alles bestätigt, was der Twitter-Bodensatz so in die Tastaturen kloppt, was dann wohl auch das Filmteam gemerkt hat, weshalb eine Einschränkung folgt, die alles und nichts vom bisher gesagten relativiert. Es ist nicht der einzige Moment in diesem Film, aber einer der dahingehend eindrücklichsten. Und je weiter die Handlung voranschreitet, desto mehr verwirrt diese mal konkrete, mal diffuse Warnhaltung, die gleichermaßen wissend und fabulierend wirkt. Das wäre wahrscheinlich für mich gar kein sooo großes Problem, wäre nicht schon im Vorspann klargestellt, wer diesen Film produziert hat: Michelle und Barack Obama. Hatte ich sie bei "Rustin" noch im Verdacht, einen Film über den March on Washington zu entkeimen, um die Weißen im Publikum nicht zu sehr zu verschrecken (siehe Kritk), so befremdet mich hier, wie ein ehemaliger US-Präsident einen Film mit rausbringt, der gleichermaßen als Warnung vor und als Bauplan zum Bürgerkrieg oder auch als etwas ganz anderes gelesen werden kann.

Ich habe ausnahmsweise kein vernünftiges Fazit. Ja, "Leave the World Behind" ist ein toll gespielter Reißer mit einer stetig nach oben steigenden Spannungskurve und einer guten Portion kluger, nicht didaktischer Sozialkritik. Und nein, ich habe die dritte Ebene des Filmes noch nicht gut genug durchdrungen, um zu sagen, was ich von ihr halte. Andererseits: ein Film, der auch mittlerweile einige Tage später noch innere Debatten auslöst, kann so schlecht gar nicht sein.

Groezel of Grijsje, het levende Radijsje (hetpaleis & Abattoir Fermé)

“Wees wie je bent, dat is wie je wordt”.

Radijsjes worden snel oud, maar in zeven dagen kan er veel gebeuren. Wat wil Groezel met haar korte leven doen? Wat vindt ze leuk? Het radijsje belandt van het ene avontuur in het andere. Ze ontmoet de meest bizarre figuren, lieve mensen maar ook griezels die haar tussen een sandwich (willen) leggen. Loopt alles in de soep of ontdekt ze haar eigen smaak?

Recensie Succession ★★★★ - te zien op @hbomaxnl (vanaf 8-3) Een topcast, een niet te voorspellen plot en de sarcastische ondertoon zorgen ervoor dat dit een meer dan een lekkere serie is om te kijken. En wat een ongemakkelijke personages!

Dusknoir is a bottom

In this essay I will explain why Dusknoir from PMD2 is actually a bottom and I refuse to accept otherwise.

Point #1: Dusknoir and Dialga

Let’s start off with this one. Dusknoir basically does whatever Dialga wants him to do. He goes above and beyond to follow Dialga’s orders and basically chases Grovyle all through the past and future to fulfill his duty. Even when it gets uncomfortable, like when he betrays Grovyle after genuinely bonding with him. 

Also constantly saying “Master Dialga” is uh. Somewhat evocative of the whole dominant/submissive thing. I’m definitely not saying Dusknoir wanted to FUCC Dialga bc that’s kinda creepy but it’s not hard to imagine how that kinda attitude would transfer over to being down to take it up the ass if you get what I’m saying. 

Despite being a bad guy, Dusknoir seems pretty content with not being the one “on top”, hehehe. He doesn’t seem to mind being second in command to Dialga. Idk man that just sounds to me like a dude who doesn’t mind not being 100% in control and is willing to sit back and let other people direct him. 

Point #2: Dusknoir the Villain

Some more theoretical evidence. Frankly, I think Dusknoir gets labelled as a top a lot of the time just because of his role as the bad guy. Like I mean. It’s definitely common in shipping to have the bad guy as the dominant one. I think we’ve all seen that before, yeah? Physical appearance probably also feeds into that. Dusknoir’s more bara and Grovyle looks kinda like a fucking twink (or maybe a twunk but i’m not gonna get into that here). 

Basically, our assumptions about how Dusknoir’s sexual habits are coming more from his appearance and role in the story than his personality, if that makes sense. We’re typecasting but with top/bottom roles. Topcasting, if you will. Some big beefy bad boy ghosts like to get fucking rawed and that is so valid.

Anyway, now let’s move on! Here are some other things that contribute to the “Dusknoir is a bottom” case. On their own, these things don’t necessarily mean that someone is a bottom but when they’re put together with the other shit here it definitely makes Dusknoir’s bottom-ness more apparent. 

Point #3: Dusknoir and Loyalty

This bit is kinda a continuation of the Dusknoir and Dialga point from before.

I know most of us talk and joke about Dusknoir being a backstabbing piece of shit a lot and obviously that’s fair. But Dusknoir’s not a disloyal guy, you know? He’s super loyal, just to the wrong people and ideas. Even Grovyle points it out.

Once he flips sides, Dusknoir’s loyalty shifts from Dialga to Grovyle and Celebi. Hell, he even joins them in fighting his former master. Even before he flips sides, there’s the whole thing where he shields Grovyle from the falling ice chunk. Though he SAYS that was just part of his plan, his tsundere “I really despise you”/”I really don’t care about you at all” reaction and the heart to heart he and Grovyle have afterwards definitely makes that claim a bit suspicious. 

ANYWAY, it’s the same intense, all-in kinda loyalty as before. Idk about y’all but I can definitely see Dusknoir’s loyalty and devotion to others leading to a preference for being slammed in his ghostly ass lmao. 

Point #4: Dusknoir’s interactions with Grovyle

MAN lemme be real for a minute, actaeonshipping fic/art that has Dusknoir being this super seductive dominant dude has always felt off to me.

Like yeah, they banter and argue a lot but then you also have moments like Dusknoir asking Grovyle why he’s willing to sacrifice his own life to prevent time from stopping. That bit when Dusknoir asks Grovyle “did my life shine” when he’s fucking being wiped out of existence. 

A lot of the more heartwarming moments between them go that way. Dusknoir looking to Grovyle for guidance in some way or another or expressing some kinda admiration for Grovyle. Dusknoir looks to Grovyle to show him what to do, not unlike a bottom might look to a top to show them what to do. Chew on that a little. 

Point #5: Mia @loremaster​ Weighs In

Now, everyone who was in the PMD2 fandom on deviantart around 2009-2010 knows that Mia @loremaster​ was the supreme authority on actaeonshipping. 

So naturally I asked for her opinion. Here it is, folks:
