Oh no. Sir I believe I'm going to need you to explain that Dragon Age 2 opinion, that is a BLAZING hot take
I really don't think it is. Although of course all of this is personal opinion, not some sort of divine proclamation on high about which video games people are allowed to prefer, so take please it in the spirit it is offered.
Origins is a worldbuilding walking tour as much about explaining its own in-universe lore and fantasy history as it is about either its characters or the actual story that is happening in the game. It's a cool world! With some great lore! But also it is built entirely around Generic Fantasy Plot Structure #1 and never particularly seems interested in innovating, or surprising the player. On top of which, a lot of its setting and lore is pretty weakly sketched and doesn't really get developed into something either visually or narratively compelling until it gets built out in later games.
And while Inquisition has some genuinely fantastic characters, everything else about the game suffers very badly from the plague of BioWare Magic™, i.e. the production was an absolute mess up until the last minute when five hundred extremely overworked and underpaid creative geniuses somehow managed to wring a functional experience out of the trainwreck. It was made with fucking Frostbite of all things, jesus christ, it's holding together with spit and duct tape.
Now, Dragon Age 2 shares a bunch of the problems of Origins and Inquisition. It too bears the hallmarks of "our executives couldn't plan a healthy game production cycle if their lives depended on it" with a lot of unfinished content, half-assed sidequests and a truly frustrating over-reliance on a combat system that isn't half as engaging to use as it needed to be.
But Dragon Age 2 also has something neither of its siblings could ever even hope to match: an actual compelling protagonist.
Like, listen, I know people adore their headcanons about their Wardens and Inquisitors, and it has made for some truly amazing fanworks, but Hawke is literally the only actual character out of all of them. Hawke has conflicts, problems, needs and drives that actually inform and push the story forward, they have a family and a history and a reason to give a sh** about the central conflict of the narrative.
In Origins and Inquisition both, your character becomes the main character of the story entirely because of fate and random chance. You are the Chosen One and you are the only one who can Save The World because you're the last of the super special elite fantasy Hero Squad, or because you got some green magic stuck in your hand by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Because the character is a complete blank slate onto which the player is expected to project themselves, random chance and circumstance are the only tools the plot can use to position them as main characters. There is no character to drive them to it.
In Dragon Age 2, Hawke becomes the champion because they're trying to build a new life for their family in Kirkwall, and end up embroiled in the chaos and politics that befall the city as a natural consequence of living in it and dealing with the conditions of it. Hawke and their family's needs and wants drive their actions, and push them to engage in endeavors that influence the course of history. They have agency (in the conceit of the narrative, at least) over how their life turns out, they make choices that have consequences, rather than being dictated into the position of Main Character by a literal looming apocalypse that permits no other course of action.
And I'm not about to sit here and claim that Dragon Age 2's story is perfect or that every character is a masterpiece or that every plotline is amazing. No, there's plenty of scuff and jank and things that have aged poorly and unresolved plot threads and all the rest of it.
And I am definitely not forgetting the godsdamned DLC where BioWare threw it all overboard by inventing a Special Bloodline Plot where oops it turns out Hawke actually IS a special chosen one specially chosen by a special fate to have a special role in Saving The World because they're special because of fate and destiny and blah blah, I still think that was phenomenally stupid (especially when Corypheus wasn't even Hawke's goddamn main villain to deal with what was any of this supposed to add to their character ffs BioWare)
But even with all its problems, the simple fact that Hawke is a character you can give a shit about independent of your own projection as a player - the fact that Hawke isn't just an empty bland blank slate with no personality, no traits, no wants or needs or drives - that has made Dragon Age 2 infinitely more memorable to me than either Origins and Inquisition. I think about it to this day. I think about Hawke to this day. I care about what happens to the character in a way that I just simply could never bring myself to do with either my Wardens or my Inquisitors.

Opinions That Aren't Mutually Exclusive:
"Sonic should be allowed to tell stories, and the dismissal of story in Sonic because it's a video game series is silly" and "It's still a video game series first and foremost, so the gameplay part is still the top priority, meaning anyone who doesn't like a game because they didn't like the gameplay is perfectly valid"
"Sonic is a Japanese IP, and no amount of western adaptations will change that" and "It shouldn't matter where in the world the people handling a Sonic product are from, as long as they're competent and humble"
"Alternate gameplay styles can exist in Sonic" and "You can't just do anything willy nilly, it should make sense for a Sonic game in some capacity, even if it's another character"
"Sonic's world should feel like a place that people could live in" and "It should be creative, inspiring, and not emulate the real world at the cost of everything else"
"Sonic does not think like a typical superhero, nor does he go out of his way to redeem villains if they show no remorse" and "Sonic is a compassionate person who is quick to befriend others if they're not evil or if things have mended between them"
"Sonic is the namesake character, and his influence in the world around him is key to the series" and "Other characters should be allowed to exist beyond Sonic, and not have their every decision and contribution dictated solely by Sonic's influence"
"Tails should have childlike traits" and "Tails should have agency, and not be useless or a submissive yes man"
"Tails' outburst in Lost World and his moment of weakness in Forces could have been handled better" and "The solutions fans come up with are often nonsensical and would only make things worse"
"The Master Emerald and Angel Island are important to Knuckles" and "His entire existence should not revolve around them"
"Amy's love for Sonic should not be flanderized to the levels of the mid-00's" and "Amy should not be a Strong Female Character™ who's too cool for mushiness"
"Eggman is a funny guy" and "He is also a huge piece of shit"
"Eggman doesn't do things for the evulz" and "He does things for himself, and his evil is not any lesser because of that"
"Other villains can exist" and "When two decades worth of upstagings have happened, no shit I'm going to be cautious and give every newcomer the side-eye until they're confirmed to NOT drag Eggman through the mud"
"Shadow can be aggressive if he has to" and "Shadow is never an arsehole for the sake of being an arsehole"
"Shadow's backstory is necessary to the context of what made him who he is as we know him" and "He's already confronted it and should be allowed to move on without having Maria's memory dangled in front of him at all times"
"Rouge is not in Sonic's immediate group in the same way as Tails, Amy, Cream, etc" and "Rouge is not a villain, or even that morally grey, since despite her jewel thieving tendencies, the amount of times where she's helped the heroes far outweighs the number of times where she hasn't"
"I don't think Silver is an interesting character, and he was artificially shilled at Sonic's expense in '06" and "IDW Silver is a deceitful portrayal of who Silver actually is"
"Elise was not used well" and "She did not deserve the hate she received, and is hated half the time for dumbass reasons"
"Metal Sonic's identity crisis is an intriguing idea" and "You can convey that idea without him usurping Eggman and becoming another dime-a-dozen giant monster, you can't use insanity as a handwave to throw anything at the wall to see what sticks, because the good and bad ways to establish insanity always depends on who that character is"
"Some of the IDW characters had potential" and "That potential was swiftly thrown out in favor of flanderizing them, turning them into Sally clones, or turning them into Eggman Usurper #59"
"Sonic shouldn't be infantilized as a series, like Sonic's portrayal in Prime" and "It also shouldn't be edgy for edgy's own sake, like the zombot arc in IDW"
"The games are not perfect, with some of them having much more inexcusable flaws and baffling decisions than others" and "The games are what started the franchise, and the cartoons/comics/etc would not exist without them, therefore you can't pretend the latter are the centerpiece of the franchise even if you prefer them"
"SA1 is one of my favourite games in the series" and "The direction shift from Classic to Adventure may have had understandable intentions behind it, but by making said shift so vocal instead of more graceful and seamless ala 3D Mario, ultimately it was responsible for creating one of the biggest divides in the fandom since SatAM"
"Shadow the Hedgehog is not a good game" and "But it is a funny one, so I can't hate it too much"
"Sonic '06 is over a decade old, and reviewers should stop bringing it up in every review where it's not relevant" and "It's worth remembering what '06 did wrong so that its mistakes aren't repeated, which is especially crucial in the wake of fans choosing to retcon it as an underrated masterpiece"
"No game in the series is perfect, not even your favourite one" and "Literal perfection is impossible to achieve, and would be highly subjective even if it was, the flaws shouldn't cancel out your fondness for the game"
"I respect Yuji Naka's contributions to the series" and "I don't necessarily like Yuji Naka as a person"
"SEGA of Japan have not had a flawless track record" and "It's still their IP, and SEGA of America, as well as fans and creators, need to respect that"
"I've not been that interested or impressed with Daniel Barnes' output in the series so far, and the mantra of ___ Can Do No Wrong is a dangerous slope that leads to egos like Flynn's" and "I respect Barnes' integrity that other IDW crewmembers have not shown"
"I favor adaptations that are faithful to the source material" and "I can like adaptations that do their own thing as long as it doesn't go against the core of the franchise/characters too much"
"We're on our way to the ARK" and "So I guess that means we're going too"

I was watching a video last night by Yahtzee about how AAA games write female protagonists. He had three main points. The first is that female MC aren't written with agency but instead what he calls “have to”s, the second is how games love to make them suffer and finally how it's all framed. Let's see how all these apply to Edelgard.
First is the question of agency, this is something that has plagued the fandom since the game's release. Does Edelgard have agency? The game wants to make it out that she's being manipulated by TWSITD, that she's going to war as part of their plan, whereas Edelgard herself frames it as her having to do something about the state of the world. Edelgard will go to war for her ideals, but at the same time is also presented as being a mere servant to them. She chose to work with TWSITD, but if they wanted to they could simply have brainwashed her into doing so.
We have the game invoking the “have to”s, but take a minute to examine things. Edelgard is going to war because she believes it's the right thing and that the people will benefit from her ideals. She formed ideals based on what her father told her, however she ignores the fact her father was a puppet of her tormentors (according to Hubert). She knows TWSITD are against Rhea, the one her father made out to be the bane of humanity, and to top it all off she's told by Thales himself what the experiments were for. Yet she'll still blame the corruption of the Imperial nobility, the ones she was told were behind the experiments by her father, and according to Hopes she ignores the influence TWSITD has over them as well as restoring the Church branch the Empire disbanded over a century prior while Sylvain says the nobles do what they want rather than following the supposed system and Lorenz say they merely pay lip-service.
So, does Edelgard really have to go to war while the games make her out as ignoring the truth.
Meanwhile, the Japanese version of the main theme, Girl From Hresvelg, instead portrays Edelgard as wavering about going through with the war during White Clouds before deciding to go through with it. On top of that, if Claude faces her in the palace she says she wants to kill him for the world she dreams of when he says they don't want to kill her. It's definitely painting her as having agency, that she's doing these things because she ultimately wants to do them herself, not because she has to.
“But what about her being manipulated?” you might ask. Let's look at this from a real world perspective, shall we? IRL, it's debated if brainwashing is even real, and whenever it has been used as a possible defence in a legal proceeding it's been struck down because people are assumed to have free will. If brainwashing does exist, that would also mean that free will can be taken away. Edelgard was indoctrinated by the Agarthans, but that's not enough to say she doesn't have free will. They could brainwash her removing her free will according to Hopes, but they didn't and the game has always said that joining them was a decision Edelgard made.
In short, while Edelgard appears to be an example of “have to”s, she actually has agency in her own actions and therefore responsibility for them.
The second point is trauma, and Edelgard has it in bucketloads. However, rather than the game putting her through traumatic situations time and time again, her trauma is reserved for her backstory. Rather than being something she has to persevere through, it already happened. Not only that, it's not used to make her stronger. The trauma is used to manipulate her into deciding to go to war by those who put her through it, so rather than making her character commendable it instead invokes pity more than anything.
That leads us into framing. How does the game want us to see Edelgard? According to the devs, there's two sides of her, the cute girl and the emperor who plays the role of a standard FE villain looking to conquer with the latter being a twist due to her gender. On the surface level, she's meant to be a cute girl. On top of that, they wanted players to immerse themselves in Fodlan's setting, but they admitted they created it to support Silver Snow's story. Therefore, Edelgard's takes are ultimately meant to be wrong.
There's something else here. Yahtzee brought up that with the Tomb Raider reboot, the devs put Lara through all that because they wanted the players to develop a paternal view of her. They wanted players to want to protect her. On the topic of The Last of Us 2, the games wants me to forgive Abby for her murder of Joel. There's a very manipulative quality to how things are framed, intent on making us feel specific things in response to the story. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Abby is still a piece of shit taking a trans kid to be a child soldier for a terrorist group that is compared to the cult the kid escaped from. No matter how you frame it, she's still doing a horrible thing that goes against the themes of the game.
What the devs talked about with Lara Croft is just moe. That's the definition, a desire to protect a character. They didn't want the players to see her like the older version of her, where she was simply a badass. This is very different from how male protagonists are portrayed. I bring this up because the game has the option to join Edelgard as protecting her.
There's a moe element to Edelgard, but think about how this plays out. Edelgard just got revealed as the villainous Flame Emperor, and we're asked if we want to protect her. After the game points out that she lied and used the party, it asks if we want to join her and her allies. And if I do so, the game keeps dropping hints about how manipulative Edelgard actually is. The game uses moe against the player in order to turn them into the bad guy.
Really, Edelgard comes across more as a deconstruction of modern female protagonists. Her actions aren't because she has to do this or that, but because she has agency and wants to do those things. Her being framed as a cute girl is used to hide her true nature and manipulate the player into protecting her from the consequences of her own actions. The narrative tries to manipulate us just like Edelgard does in-universe. Finally, while her trauma is used to make her sympathetic, it's not something she's been able to move beyond. It didn't make her stronger, as she has internalized the methods of her abusers and is now using them on others for her own benefit.

Hi Pika, I don't know if you've been following gmmtv's take over of wabi sabi, I just want to ask you: given that so many companies are part of TBLC which is like a Thai BL content association, do you have any idea why gmmtv isn't a part of it? BOC, DMD, Star Hunter, Copy A Bangkok, Channel 3 are all part of it, I'm just wondering why gmmtv isn't even thought it's the biggest bl company? Wabi Sabi was/is a part of it. (idk exactly)
I can't emphasize enough that I am NOT an expert on this snaps lmao so anything I say that isn't like a direct link to an article or further reading source is speculation on my part. You're a sweetheart Anon but I just wanna let you know that like if you wanna know about the American publishing or entertainment industry but I don't wanna present myself as like ~an expert~ when my ass ain't ya know?
So my short answer is fuck if I know lol I hadn't even heard of the TBLC till this ask
For folks interested in it, here's the livestream they hosted for it (it's 45ish minutes) and it doesn't have subs though. But it seems to be connected to Thailand's soft power committee, here's an article on that:
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who chairs the committee, tasked deputy chairwoman Paetongtarn Shinawatra with leading two national initiatives: One Family One Soft Power (OFOS) and the Thailand Creative Content Agency (THACCA). The goal of the initiatives is skills training to create 20 million jobs that will generate annual income of 4 trillion baht. OFOS and THACCA will be implemented in three phases: First, to boost human resources, 20 million children, adults, and seniors in under village and community funds will get free training in fields such as food, Muay Thai, arts, performance, singing, design, fashion, e-sports, and more, free of charge.
For folks who may not know, soft power is a term coined by political scientist Joseph S. Nye Jr. in his article Soft Power published by Foreign Policy magazine.
"In the 1980s, political scientist Joseph Nye Jr. coined the term soft power, defining it as a country’s ability to influence others without resorting to coercive pressure. In practice, that process entails countries projecting their values, ideals, and culture across borders to foster goodwill and strengthen partnerships." (source)
Soft power is a form of governmental influence internationally, and works conjunction with "hard power".
Examples of "soft power" are the American space program, athletes performing at the Olympics, and on the media side, military propaganda films like Captain Marvel, (yes I consider Captain Marvel a military propaganda film the film opens with a freaking air force ad lmao).
You see other countries using similar tactics as well, for every Top Gun there's China's Wolf Warrior 2 or Hidden Blade. For South Korea, BTS and k-pop is most definitely used as a source of soft power. This is just something governments do.
Okay so like, gmmtv and BL we've been hearing for a minute now that BL and GL are part of the Thai governments plans for soft power.
Mile and Apo have spoken about this specifically when promoting Man Suang and here's a recent video of them working in conjunction with the government on Shine:
(source)
Even Mew's talked about Thailand's soft power in interviews before (context, Mew was the first Thai musician to break into the American Billboard charts):
(source)
It's not just BL either, Idol Factory's Freen and Becky of The Gap fame got in on this too:
So like, it sounds like this meeting/committee in general is just an extension of the Thai governments plans for expanding their soft power which includes how to better support this now highly in demand industry (BL/GL shows) b/c the government sees its international value.
I can only assume that like, gmmtv feels it doesn't need~ government support as a production company? They're the biggest BL studio in the game and have an annoying stranglehold on territories like America and Latin America already. It doesn't really matter what the quality of the shows even are, gmmtv have that sweet parasocial grip on audiences.
[my forever frustrations with gmmtv and how they sell idols and parasocial relationships not BL/GL shows is a totally different post so lemme stop]
Other companies don't really have that same hold on international audiences. At least not consistently? And the biggest concern is funding.
I think anyone with eyeballs can see Kinnporsche is the best well produced BL that's come out of Thailand (argue with the wall) in terms of overall technical quality. But that level of quality is expensive, the CGI in The Sign is freaking expensive, The Next Prince's pilot is so obviously pricey as all fuck you can tell the studio is banking on it selling.
Which is why studios like Idol Factory, Domandi or BOC only come out with a one or two shows a year in comparison to gmmtv's like 16. They need funding, not just for filming the show but also marketing. Filmmaking is hella expensive.
[I'm not talking about whether y'all liked this show or that show, I'm talking about technical quality, shows like Kinnporsche, The Sign, Pit Babe are all better on a technical level than stuff like 1000 Stars, Only Friends or Cooking Crush.]
Why didn't gmmtv attend the event or participate, baby I legit do not know. I can't answer that with any sort of certainty only their execs could answer that, I can only guess.
And my best guess is b/c the company feels confident they're fine on their own. They don't need funding assistance, nor assistance reaching an international market (tho maybe some assistance in getting their contracts straight hope Ossan's Love doesn't face the same distribution issues as Cherry Magic lmao).
For more information on the event itself I really liked this post on reddit that I felt broke everything down very well.
Anyway sorry this got so long Anon but I hope it at least provided some interesting information!

John doesn't deserve a baddie like javier and abligal javier I am right here jk but I wanted to do video eassy on why people hate on main interest esp when they are morally gray or challenging the main character mortalites and I wanted to ask about your opinion on why you think so many people are ducking on mary liction , molly o Shea and abilgal
ironically i also want to do a video on this but it's bc the reason is just always blatantly misogyny. there's some reasons that pertain to the way players don't like having their agency questioned or they want the mc to come to these conclusions without the influence of others - especially when those others are women.
ultimately, though, gaming communities, broadly speaking, are deeply misogynistic. even outside of red dead, people do this to female characters ALL the time. i don't even play games that often but off the top of my head, Yona from TOTK, Abby from TLOU (maybe even Ellie at times) like sometimes female characters are held to such an insane standard that it takes next to nothing for them to fall from public opinion.

Maximizing Engagement: Powerful Video Marketing Strategies from Leading Digital Marketing Agencies
Introduction: In today's digital landscape, video marketing has emerged as a game-changer, providing businesses with dynamic tools to engage and captivate their target audience. As online platforms continue to evolve, it's imperative for digital marketing agencies to stay ahead of the curve, utilizing innovative strategies to drive engagement and deliver impactful results. In this blog post, we'll explore some proven video marketing strategies employed by top digital marketing agencies that effectively capture attention, foster connections, and boost brand awareness.
Know Your Audience: Before diving into video production, digital marketing agencies conduct thorough research to understand their target audience's preferences, interests, and behaviors. By gaining insights into what resonates with their audience, agencies can tailor their video content to address specific pain points, interests, and desires. Whether it's creating informative tutorials, entertaining product demos, or inspiring brand stories, aligning video content with audience preferences is essential for driving engagement and fostering meaningful connections.
Create Compelling Storytelling: At the heart of successful video marketing lies compelling storytelling. Digital marketing agencies leverage the power of narrative to evoke emotions, spark curiosity, and establish a strong connection with viewers. By crafting stories that are authentic, relatable, and relevant to their brand message, agencies can capture audience attention and leave a lasting impression. Whether it's showcasing customer success stories, behind-the-scenes glimpses, or impactful testimonials, storytelling adds depth and resonance to video content, driving higher engagement and fostering brand loyalty.
Optimize for Search Engines: In today's competitive digital landscape, visibility is key to success. Digital marketing agencies employ SEO strategies to ensure their video content ranks prominently in search engine results, maximizing exposure and driving organic traffic. By conducting keyword research, optimizing video titles, descriptions, and tags, and incorporating relevant metadata, agencies can enhance their video's discoverability and reach a wider audience. Additionally, leveraging transcription services to provide captions and transcripts improves accessibility and further boosts SEO performance, enhancing overall engagement and user experience.
Embrace Interactive Elements: To keep viewers actively engaged and encourage participation, digital marketing agencies integrate interactive elements into their video content. Whether it's interactive polls, quizzes, clickable annotations, or shoppable links, these features enhance viewer engagement, encourage interaction, and drive conversions. By transforming passive viewers into active participants, agencies can create immersive experiences that captivate attention, drive brand interaction, and ultimately, drive business results.
Leverage Social Media Platforms: Social media platforms serve as powerful channels for distributing video content and engaging with target audiences. Digital marketing agencies leverage the reach and targeting capabilities of platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube to amplify their video marketing efforts. By tailoring content formats and messaging to suit each platform's unique audience and algorithms, agencies can optimize engagement, foster community engagement, and generate buzz around their brand. Additionally, harnessing the power of influencer partnerships, user-generated content, and paid advertising further amplifies reach and drives engagement across social media channels.
Analyze and Iterate: Continuous optimization is key to refining video marketing strategies and maximizing their impact. Digital marketing agencies rely on analytics tools to track key performance metrics, gain insights into audience behavior, and measure the effectiveness of their video campaigns. By analyzing metrics such as view counts, watch time, engagement rates, and conversion metrics, agencies can identify areas for improvement, refine their approach, and iterate on future video content. This data-driven approach ensures that video marketing efforts remain aligned with business objectives, delivering measurable results and driving continuous improvement over time.
Conclusion: In an increasingly competitive digital landscape, video marketing has emerged as a powerful tool for driving engagement, fostering connections, and boosting brand awareness. By leveraging innovative strategies, such as compelling storytelling, SEO optimization, interactive elements, and social media amplification, digital marketing agencies can create impactful video content that resonates with their target audience and drives meaningful results. By staying attuned to audience preferences, embracing creativity, and continuously optimizing their approach, agencies can unlock the full potential of video marketing to achieve their business goals and stay ahead of the competition.
By implementing these strategies, digital marketing agencies can elevate their video marketing efforts, maximize engagement, and drive tangible results for their clients, establishing themselves as leaders in the ever-evolving realm of digital marketing.

Gathering of the Greatest Gumshoes - Number 10
Welcome to A Gathering of the Greatest Gumshoes! During this month-long event, I’ll be counting my Top 31 Favorite Fictional Detectives, from movies, television, literature, video games, and more!
Today, the countdown enters the Top 10!
SLEUTH-OF-THE-DAY’S QUOTE: “The enemy of my enemy is my enemy.”
Number 10 is…Dick Tracy.
Created for a series of newspaper adventure strips by Chester Gould, Dick Tracy has been considered the forerunner to a lot of popular superheroes. However, the actual character isn’t really a superhero so much as a classic detective character. In the comics, Tracy starts off as a member of the Navy, who falls in love with a beautiful woman named Tess Trueheart, and becomes close with her father, Emil. Things take a sour turn when the notorious gangster called Big Boy kidnaps Tess and has Emil murdered. Outraged at the loss, Dick vows revenge, and joins a plainclothes police force. He thus takes down the mobsters, and ultimately saves Tess. Thus begins Dick Tracy's long and dauntless crusade to stamp out crime with uncompromising fortitude: over time, Dick Tracy rises in the ranks. He eventually becomes the head of the homicide squad, before opening his own private detective agency (briefly), and then eventually returning to the force. The comics have sort of been made off-and-on over the years, both in papers and in comic book format, and are still around even to this day.
Tracy himself is essentially an avatar for law and order, as a concept. He is almost obsessively “straight”: he scoffs at bribes, and shows no mercy to most criminals when on the case. And considering he’s facing dangerous thieves, bootleggers, enemy spies, and more murderers than you can shake a skull at, I don’t think you can blame him for being a bit hard-edged. Tracy’s viewpoint of the world is very simple: “all criminals are rats, and should be treated as such.” While at times this is a fatal flaw in his character, normally you can’t really fault Tracy, because the villains he takes down ARE rats. When he’s not on the case, however, Dick is a much warmer sort of person: he’s a devoted (if often distracted) family man, has many good friends he trusts and cares for, and even shows what I can only describe as a jolly side to his character, as upbeat as he is firm and strong. Indeed, despite his own philosophy, Tracy has - on the rarest of occasions - helped some villains reform and redeem themselves, and some of them have become not only allies but close friends. It's probably best to say that Tracy CAN recognize when there's good in a person...but he also recognizes that most of the people he deals with are either too far gone, or there just isn't time to worry about that when lives are at stake.
On that note…if there’s one place where you can definitely see the influence on superhero fiction with Tracy, it’s his villains. The bad guys from Dick Tracy were among the first “supervillains,” as we recognize them today: grotesque and eccentric antagonists with various unique gimmicks, as well as bizarre costumes and/or physical features that make them as eye-catching as they are blood-curdling. The villains of Dick Tracy are a big part of what made and still makes the series popular: from the ever-pestering Flattop Family, to femme fatale Breathless Mahoney, to the soft-spoken but thoroughly psychopathic Mumbles, and so on and so forth. Honestly, a lot of these villains are best experienced through the comics themselves, since while a lot of other media portrayals do Dick Tracy himself decent justice, the iconic villains usually either lack the right amount of grotesque appearance, or the depths of personality and modes of operation that their original sources have.
On that note, most people recognize Tracy for his portrayal in the 1990 film, appropriately titled “Dick Tracy.” This version starred Warren Beatty as the detective, with supporting roles played by Al Pacino, Mandy Patinkin, and even Madonna, of all people! While I do enjoy that film, and Beatty’s somewhat darker take on Tracy, I think my favorite portrayer of the character is a much older actor: Ralph Byrd. He played Tracy first in a series of four old movie serials, which, despite changing a lot of the lore around the character, still captured the spirit of the comics and Tracy himself. Byrd would later reprise the role in more source-accurate interpretations, first in two of four films by RKO (including one where he faces off against Boris Karloff, in the role of “Gruesome”), and then later in a largely-lost 1950s television series, which adapted various storylines from the comics into TV format. While the actual quality of all these outings fluctuated, to say the least, Byrd, himself, was the definitive screen Tracy: he looked, sounded, and felt the part better than anyone else.
Other actors have played Tracy over the years, of course, from radio to films and even to TV. Some noteworthy names worth looking at include Bing Crosby, Morgan Conway, and Everett Sloane. However, the comics are really the only way to enjoy Tracy and his villains to their fullest potential. They’re somewhat hard to track down at times, but if you can find a few good storylines, they’re well worth checking out.
Tomorrow, the countdown continues with Number 9!
CLUE: “How do you think this all works? By being big and being bad.”

Former Russian Prime Minister, Close Putin Advisor Sergey Kiriyenko is a Scientologist, and a brief history of the CIA’s relationship to Scientology
▲Kiriyenko and Putin
Former Russian Official Accuses a Top Russian Official of Being a Scientologist
Today Aaron Smith-Levin from the YouTube Channel, "Growing Up In Scientology," discussed a senior Russian official being accused of being a Scientologist by Russian nationalist, Army veteran, and former intelligence officer Igor Girkin, accusing Sergey Kiriyenko of being a Scientologist. Girkin has played a major role in organizing separatists and the more fascistic elements of militants in Ukraine. He was also appointed to as Minister of Defense in the Donetsk People's Republic, a puppet state of Russia. Though today Girkin supports Russia's efforts in Ukraine, he believes the government is not showing enough force and is botching the annexation and war in Ukraine. In 2023, Girkin organized fellow Russian fascists and nationalists into the “Club of Angry Patriots,” advocating for the violent seizure of the Russian state apparatus by nationalists.
Girkin has recently been discussing how for decades it has been known in Russia that Sergey Kiriyenko was or is a Scientologist, though it has been said Kiriyenko is currently inactive. Even while he was the Prime Minister, his affiliation was known among Russian politicians, with many finding it distasteful and a risk to the state. Even as popular sentiments in Russia were that Scientology was a cult, even within its government, Kiryeno remained favored by many Russian bureaucrats and long-time intelligence officers, including Putin.
Girkin mentions that prior to 1991, the Russian government believed Scientology to be a subsidiary of the CIA. He goes on to dismiss this claim, though he believed that Scientology did bring sabotage wherever it went, including to the Russian government, but that such sabotage was instead caused by foolish, unwise church leadership.
Scientology and CIA?
Miles Copeland Jr., long-time CIA officer who often wrote about the agency following his departure. Many of his claims have been proven true, though often sprinkled with exaggeration and intentional disinformation.
One of Copeland’s claims, made in “The Game Player,” was that both the Moral Re-Armament and Scientology were being used by the CIA for “political action.”
This is not difficult to believe, as the Sea Org in its heyday under the direct leadership of L. Ron Hubbard was known to travel the world, meeting with world leaders, and executing missions that many of its members did not understand.
Some seem to believe that it was after/during the trial of Operation Snow White, the church-led operation of 5,000 Scientologists infiltrating U.S. government agencies, when the Church of Scientology connected to the CIA, but in another video of Aaron’s, he interviews Janis Gillham Grady, who offered a tid bit that seems to suggest otherwise. Grady was an early member and one of the few people who worked with L. Ron Hubbard, who discussed Scientology’s role in Morroco’s 1972 coup. It is more likely that the Scientology’s government and FBI infiltration was led by the CIA, for information on other government agencies. The Scientologists were said to have gotten a number of FBI documents.
Copeland claims that the CIA had a plant in Scientology even prior to its official founding, at the Dianetics Research Foundation in 1950, and actively funded Hubbard's experiments. Both Charles Parker Morgan and John Starr Cooke are known to have strong OSS/CIA connections, and were known to have worked with Hubbard at this time.
On John Starr Cooke:
Some years earlier Bowen had fallen under the singular and charismatic influence of a mysterious guru-type figure named John Starr Cooke. A man of wealth and influential family connections, Cooke was no stranger to high-level CIA personnel. His sister, Alice, to whom he was very close, was married to Roger Kent, a prominent figure in the California state Democratic party; Roger’s brother, Sherman Kent, was head of the CIA’s National Board of Estimates (an extremely powerful position) and served as CIA director Allen Dulles’ right-hand man during the Cold War. John Cooke hobnobbed with Sherman Kent at annual family reunions and is said to have made the acquaintance of a number of CIA operatives while traveling in Europe.
Driven by an avid interest in the occult, Cooke journeyed around the world befriending an assortment of mystics and spiritual teachers. In the early 1950s he became a close confidant to L. Ron Hubbard, the ex-navy officer who founded the Scientology organization. Cooke rose high in the ranks of the newly formed religious cult. (He was the first “clear” in America, meaning he had attained the level of an advanced Scientology initiate.) Before long, however, he grew disillusioned with Hubbard and they parted ways.
Charles Parker "Bumps" Morgan was a OSS special investigator who approached Hubbard to for the Hubbard Dianetics Research Foundation together with John Campbell Jr. In his role, he contacted the FBI to report Communists which the organization had discovered, often through auditing.
▲C. Morgan
L. Ron Hubbard's 1961 letter that discusses contacting the FBI due to communists his organization made contact with also makes mention of Morgan pushing the idea that there was "subversion" in the organization.
In 1978, the same year that Scientologists were on trial for infiltrating the U.S. government, though not its mastermind L. Ron Hubbard, the Stargate Project was initiated as a secret U.S. army unit by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and Stanford Research International (SRI), a scientific research non-profit. Many of its most well known and central personnel were active Scientologists, including Hal Puthoff, Pat Price, and Ingo Swann.
Until at least 1979, Scientologists were heavily involved at the Stanford Research Institute in Palo Alto, including Scientology intelligence officer Mike McClaughry.
Allegedly “remote viewing,” something this unit deeply researched, was used for anti-communist, anti-Soviet operations, but these three men allegedly were deeply interested in this experience because of their own Scientologist beliefs.
Puthoff, Price, and Swann all had reached at least OT III in Scientology, meaning they had reached the state of clear and had learned about the secret Scientology doctrines/space opera around Xenu. All three seemed to have left the Scientology in the late 70s.
It has been said that Puthoff's psyshics identified spies,,Soviet weapons and submarines. Puthoff today co-founded the UFO research company To the Stars with Tom DeLonge, Blink 182 guitarist and vocalist who has taken a huge interest in UFOs. It is believed that Puthoff is using DeLonge to spread disinformation around UFOs onto a new generation, especially TikTok-addicted teens.
Price was considered one of the most successful remote viewers. He was a police officer. He also fueled speculation in the government and outside of the government around aliens and UFOs, claiming to have located an alien base in a mountain in Alaska. He died
Kiriyenko has never denied being a Scientologist, though claiming the German article in 1998 that revealed his affiliation to be a funny “April fools joke”.

Evidence Emerges: United States is Planning to Interfere in 2023 Parliamentary Elections in Ukraine Russia's PM linked to Scientologists (1998) by Phil Reeves, The Independent
RUSSIA'S youthful, inexperienced and - until last week - almost unheard of prime minister-designate was yesterday grappling with potentially damaging allegations linking him with the Church of Scientology.
Just over a week after being yanked out of obscurity by Boris Yeltsin, Sergei Kiriyenko, 35, hit his first unexpected skid patch after a German newspaper, Berliner Zeitung, reported that he had attended a one-week Scientology course in Nizhny Novgorod when he was head of a bank three years ago.
The teachings of L Ron Hubbard are regarded with profound suspicion by Russian officialdom, particularly by the powerful Russian Orthodox church. The same views are likely to be shared by many of the parliamentarians due to vote on Friday over whether to confirm Mr Kiriyenko's nomination.
Yesterday, Mr Yeltsin sought to dampen the protests over his choice of prime minister by inviting the two speakers of parliament and Mr Kiriyenko himself to talks at his residence outside Moscow later today. The invitation appeared to work: soon afterwards, deputies from the State Duma, or lower house, dropped demands for Mr Kiriyenko's nomination to be suspended.
The minister yesterday tried to brush off the Berliner Zeitung report, which claimed he arranged for other bankers to attend similar seminars. He was reported to have declared that he appreciated the "simplicity and clarity" of Hubbard's teachings. Later, the paper said, he lost interest in Scientology.
Under quizzing from reporters, Mr Kiriyenko said yesterday it was the "best April Fool's joke yet". But there was no outright denial.
Although Scientology has a sizeable following among Russians, the ruling elite is unlikely to take kindly to the idea of being led by an official who has any links to it. Last year, hostilities erupted in a landmark court case over an Orthodox church leaflet which warned of the dangers of "totalitarian sects", naming, among others, the Scientologists, the Moonies and the White Brotherhood.
For all its distaste, Russia has not cracked down as hard as Germany which, in spite of outcries from human rights groups, US politicians and Hollywood heavyweights including Dustin Hoffman and Oliver Stone, passed tough laws controlling the Scientologists. But they were undoubtedly among the sects targeted by a law signed last year by Mr Yeltsin which restricted the rights of "non-Russian" religions.

Is it worth hiring a social media agency in Mumbai?
No one can deny the influence of social media in today's digital environment. Indians use social media for an hour and a half on average. It is the ideal platform for connecting with the target market and developing a brand. Previously, brands published content on social networking platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter.
Social media has changed the game and is now the most effective instrument for expanding a company. You require the aid of professionals to develop a successful approach. It's time to hire a social media agency in Mumbai if you haven't already. But first, let's talk about social media marketing and Social Media Marketing Agencies.
What is social media marketing?
The term refers to utilising social media channels strategically to drive traffic, boost revenue, and establish a brand. An experienced team will publish material with careful preparation to boost interaction. Brands use social media advertising to broaden their audience and increase revenue by picking the attention of their target market. Paid advertising is a fantastic approach to getting more attention. Small businesses can, however, use free advertising techniques to increase traffic while keeping the cost of their marketing strategies within reason.
What are the techniques used for social media marketing?
A brand can use these insights to increase profitability and brand visibility. The most common techniques used for social media marketing strategies are:
Collaboration with influencers
Publishing viral content
Community development
Planning and data mining
Social engagement
Contests, polls, and surveys
Social analytics and reporting
What are the benefits of social media marketing?
Businesses of all sizes benefit from greater reach thanks to social media. The value of the digital marketing sector in India is estimated to be over INR 17,000 crore, with the number of internet users rising daily. As a result, a business has countless opportunities to flourish and be promoted on social media. Applying social media marketing tactics strategically and at the appropriate moment can be beneficial in a variety of ways, including:
Wider reach
A brand can invest in paid advertising on a social media agency platform to reach a broad audience, which is complicated with the aid of conventional advertising media.
Better customer service
A brand ensures they are always accessible to its clients while utilising the communication power of social media. Personalised responses and superior customer service attract delighted customers.
Increased conversions
A start-up can gain recognition by working with Mumbai's top social media agency. As a result, website traffic will increase, which will quickly result in higher conversion rates for new and small businesses.
Cost-efficient
Compared to traditional advertising, social media marketing is more affordable for connecting with the audience and boosting sales. A low-cost approach might be to hire a company to execute the process since creating a social media profile is free. You can employ paid advertisements or unpaid strategies to enhance visibility and drive sales, depending on your budget.
Where to Find Social Media Agencies?
I have found the best place where countless agencies are listed, helping to save time and choose from the list of social media agencies in Mumbai & according to your region only on Agencynetwork.org.
