Kendinden Merkezlemeli Zımbası seti nasıl yapılır?
Kendinden merkezlemeli zımbalar (self centering punch) atölyelerde çok önem arz eden ekipmanlardır. Özellikle kullanım kolaylığı ve doğruluk hassasiyeti gerektiren imalatlarda çok fazla kullanılırlar Genellikle kalın sac malzemelerde montajı yapılacak malzemenin civata delikleri varsa, kendinden merkezli zımbalar ile delinecek malzeme doğru şekilde markalanarak delme işlemi hatasız yapılır. The Photo tools app can be used to crop photos and cut out unwanted areas of the image, and you can select from a variety of available aspect ratios to better resize the picture or resize of photo in kb. With a photo tool app, you can reduce image size from mb to kb with no loss to image quality

In reading this line, I assumed Vakama had been a mask maker right from the start, but then I recently came across this line in Time Trap:
Tumblr media
and it turns out he started originally as a tool-maker before rising to the rank of mask maker
(Also while I appreciate this line about Vakama never raising his voice while being a mask maker is focused on his relationship with Nuhrii, it does hilariously leave open the option that Vakama was a shouty little tool-maker)

Toolmaking workshop in Greece with Dimitris Koutsipetsidis
What better than combine vacation and hobby/work one enjoys?
I had the pleasure to attend a toolmaking workshop held by Dimitiris at his bindery in Athens and what a joy. Within 1 day we learned the basics of cutting and shaping brass tools with files and/or power tools (it can be done solely with files, but let's be honest here, power tools make some of the steps waaaaaay easier and faster) as well as preparing the handles and setting the brass securely in the handles.
I did not expect to go home with 5 brass tools to call my very own to be honest. He picked wonderful shapes to start with that will be very versatile to use in different designs. In addition, and after having tried our hands on all the basic shapes (straight lines, convex and concave curves which really make up pretty much every shape), we had the chance to go for a shape of our own choosing.
It was a wonderful experience so many thanks at Dimitris' for putting this workshop together I learned a lot and had a lot of fun.

the lower two tools are diy tools I make myself, they are deep sockets with handles. for removing the panel nuts off electronics. once the knobs are removed there are often long shafts to maneuver around, and often spacings are too tight for wrenches. these tools are my solution to that problem.
the top tool is a diy handle on a file. the 'Hilt' is wrap fingers around for a more efficient transfer of energy, I find adding that feature makes files/saws easier to use.
these were all hand turned on the lathe, out of either oak scraps and oak branches that fell in my yard. they have oil finishes, using a random mix of oils, mostly walnut, mineral, and gear oil.
very handle I've made is deliberately different, to make the tools easier to tell apart at a glance.

Did some work the last couple days on some captive ring rattles. One of the bigger challenges was grinding my own captive ring tools for separating the rings from the rattle.

Some initial practice rings with my two versions of the tool. The one in the foreground ended up working better.

Final rattle with a handle. It sounds great and is fun to use.

Aspects of the Philosophy of Human Hands
The philosophy of the human hand explores the significance, symbolism, and philosophical implications of this remarkable anatomical feature. While hands primarily serve practical functions such as grasping, manipulating objects, and facilitating communication, they also carry profound symbolic and philosophical meanings across various cultures and philosophical traditions.
Some aspects of the philosophy of the human hand include:
Symbolism: Hands are rich in symbolism and cultural significance. They often represent agency, creativity, dexterity, and the ability to shape the world around us. In religious and spiritual contexts, hands may symbolize divine intervention, blessing, or healing.
Embodiment: The human hand is intimately connected to our experience of embodiment and tactile perception. Philosophers explore how our hands mediate our interaction with the physical world and shape our sensory experiences.
Toolmaking and Technology: The unique dexterity of human hands has enabled the development of tools, technology, and cultural artifacts throughout history. Philosophical inquiry into the human hand considers its role in the evolution of technology and its implications for human progress and civilization.
Expression and Communication: Hands play a crucial role in nonverbal communication, gesture, and expression. Philosophers examine how hand gestures convey meaning, emotions, and cultural norms, contributing to our understanding of language and communication.
Ethics and Responsibility: The human hand is often associated with acts of creation, labor, and craftsmanship. Philosophical reflections on the human hand may encompass ethical considerations related to work, responsibility, and the ethical use of one's hands in shaping the world.
Overall, the philosophy of the human hand provides a lens through which to explore fundamental questions about human nature, embodiment, culture, and the relationship between humans and their environment. By delving into the symbolism and practical significance of this unique appendage, philosophers deepen our understanding of what it means to be human.
