Deep Breathing GIFs
Thought I’d share some Deep Breathing gifs that I’ve found helpful to focus on when I need something tangible to calm myself. Just found these in a Google search, there’s so many others but these were the ones I’ve used in the last year.

the other day my transfem friend and i were talking about tools and drills and i mentioned that i don’t have a drill or a toolbox because i’m not really a ‘tool guy.’ and she said to me… “that’s not very manly of you, [whit]” and it got me so flustered? she told me it’d make me a better man if i owned a toolbox and like…
do i need to go buy a drill?? and why was that kinda hot. i think older tgirls should be mean to me more often. because WHY do i feel the urge to go to the hardware store and acquire tools now.

My disordered eating friends, I know I almost had a huge relapse with my ED. Thankfully, I am okay for the time being. I am fortunate enough to have several years worth of tools and coping mechanisms, plus extremely supportive loved ones to help head that off.
If you're also struggling right now, here's some tips to get you through:
Talk to your loved ones, providers, and/or support group. If you already have, plan out a time to do a check-in with your support network. Let them know you're having a hard time, and work with them to figure out how you can best be supported right now. That can mean getting check-ins, more frequent appointments/meetings, eating or cooking together, or just some much-needed venting or commiseration.
Set yourself up for success. Focus on keeping your safe foods stocked - specifically in a form most conducive to your nutrition, satiety, and satisfaction. Get the ready-to-heat stuff, the multipacks, and the flavors and brands that are actually appetizing. Beverages with some extra nutrition (e.g. juices, protein shakes, sodas) are a powerful tool.
Make gentle nutrition easy. Find simple, palatable ways to pack a little more into whatever you're eating. Get some extra butter or oil onto your soups or breads, add some pureed vegetables to your sauces, be generous with the milk in your tea or coffee, etc. Now is a great time to get into smoothies, and adding stuff in that you might struggle to eat otherwise.
Be generous with the fluids, fiber, and vitamins. Regardless of what your ED looks like, these things all tend to suffer when a relapse is happening. Try different whole grain options for foods you like, and consider adding psyllium, dextrin, or inulin to your beverages. Always have water around, and keep beverages on-hand that are easy for you to drink. And please, please consider a well-studied or doctor recommended multivitamin. Nature Made and Centrum are reputable brands.
Eat the food and drink the beverages that are appealing. Listen to me. Whatever sounds appetizing to you right now - protein bars, snack cakes, salad, pasta - I promise it is okay for you to eat it. Your body and mind are not trying to trick you. They are both trying to communicate a very real need right now. Honor your needs and your body. You are worth it. The people that love you are proud of you for taking care of yourself. I'm proud of you for wanting things.
Please be patient with yourself. Tomorrow is always another day, and it is never too late to do something different. You are loved, you are lovely, and I am so glad we are sharing this world right now.

Okay so because it's taken an inordinate amount of time and medical professionals for me to actually get an answer, I'll spill the beans on what mindfulness is.
Mindfulness is being more present doing the task at hand than it is being all up in your head about the task.
People might shorthand it by saying it's being in the present" or "being aware of your body," but that's not all of it. Sometimes you're planning a vacation for the future or comparing two products. Those aren't really being present in your own body right here right now. But you'd be mindful if you were focused and working on the task of planning versus flustering over which places you wanted to go and getting more stuck and thought-holed than actually doing the thing. It would be mindful to compare products, and not mindful to get into a tizzy over the details of which is better.
Mindfulness doesn't mean you only have pleasant emotions. It means you're better able to cope with emotions without getting stuck in your head about it. Sometimes you might get overwhelmed by an emotion, and focusing on your body and how it exists in space can be good for grounding. What muscles are tight where, focusing on relaxing them, what textures or temperatures you feel. Letting the emotion pass through you, acknowledging that emotion exists while you focus on your body until the emotion is manageable.
As for how you do it, that's personal trial and error and practice, but I found it so hard to get a straight answer as to what mindfulness actually was, the goal I was trying to do, that I figured now I'd actually got a definition I'd share.

How do you respond to OPs post without finding OG post. I don't really understand this
Find a post with one or multiple responses in the reblog chain. Hit "reblog" to add your own piece or tags. Scroll up to OP and an "X" will appear in top right corner of the first reblog response. Hit that and you will only have OP's content in your reblog.
Idk yet if this works on posts where OP deactivated and finding active responses that aren't rancid is difficult.
I'm seeing this feature in mobile browser.

Listen to me. You do not need to do it all once. You will hurt yourself and others trying. Self-growth and recovery is hard. Not because it should hurt you, but because you have to build up those skills.
It does get easier. The emotional baggage will become easier to manage. Your environment will start to energize you rather than exhaust you. You will become accustomed to the motions. It just takes time and consistency.
So: find what's sustainable now. Set achievable goals that you can meet regularly. Make designated piles for clean and dirty laundry. Eat another serving of a safe food. Express your gratitude and shyness about compliments. Put some pumpkin puree in your pasta sauce. Use fluoridated mouthwash twice a day. Send a good morning text to a relative every Saturday.
Steadily, you will get there.
