I want you all to know that if I had the energy for it. There are so many posts stored in my drafts I long to queue... but neglected to preemptively tag, despite knowing I am Like This....
Anyway, there is a slight chance the queue might run out tomorrow unless I can get more responses in there-- I am,, tired,,

He always appeared so….serious. His face in a constant state of pissed off and disdain. If looks could kill, Joe Toye (and Johnny Martin) wouldn’t have needed weapons in the war.
You avoided him all through Toccoa. He just seemed like the type to leave the hell alone. But every now and then, you caught a glimpse of him smiling or laughing with the guys.
“Not bad.” You’d think to yourself as you admired his smile.
Since you trained with Easy as a medic, you rarely had an excuse to speak to him unless he was injured. Even then you kept your conversation short and sweet with hardly any eye contact. But with his low raspy voice came a sense of calm while you took care of him. You supposed he seemed friendly enough.

June 1944 Post D-Day
Orders were given to take Carentan where German soldiers were being sheltered. Carentan was the main crossroad between Cotentin and Calvados where the ally force's tanks needed passage to attack the main objective, Cherbourg.
"Listen up!" LT Welsh shouted. "It'll be dark soon. I want light and noise discipline from here on. No talking, no smoking. And no playing grab-fanny with the man in front of you, Luz. We're taking Carentan. It's the only place where armor from Omaha and Utah Beach can link up and head inland. Until we take Carentan, they're stuck on the sand. General Taylor's sending the whole division."
Some of the men began to grumble under their breath. Everyone started to stir to gather their gear to begin the journey to Carentan.
Walking in a file formation on each side of the road to Carentan. You found yourself walking in front of Toye as Perconte proceeded you.
“Hey Toye, why you always in the middle when we convoy anywhere? Ain’t you ever in the front?” Guarnere teased.
“I go wherever the medic goes in case I get hit, Bill.” Joe responded.
You blushed and dared to sneak a glance behind you. As you did, Toye met your gaze shooting you a quick wink. You quickly look back to the front embarrassed he caught you acknowledging him.
“Awe now look what ya did. You scared her.” Guarnere teased.

You hear some of the guys laugh.
“Maintain your noise discipline.” Winters reminded.

"MEDIC!!"
You and Doc on separate ends of the streets trying to keep low to tend to the wounded.
You rush to two soldiers landing on your knees next to them, one on the ground with a trail of blood coming from his helmet, the other crouching over him.
"He's still breathing, help me carry him!" You call out. You each grab an arm of the injured soldier and drag him behind a building.

While you're working on the nameless soldier's head wound, a drug store gets blasted by German artillery not far from where you were, the force from the explosion sending you sideways into the brick wall next to you.
You shake your head to stop the ringing in your ears. Everything you could hear was distant as your vision became fuzzy and dark. You start to smack your ear trying to make it pop so you can get back to your senses.
“Y/L/N! We gotta move! Get up!” Toye’s muffled voice yelled out.
He grabbed you by the arm pulling you up to your feet. You still couldn’t barely see so you held onto his arms for dear life.
“I-I can’t see nothin’ Joe!” You called out to him.
“Ok, come on…UP we go!” You hear him grunt as he threw you over his shoulder.
You feel him trotting to safety while blast after blast erupted all around you. You feel him lower you as gently as he could to the ground against a wall.
“Hey, look at me.” Toye said as he guided your face towards his, “Can you see me now?”
You shake your head, “No, it’s all dark and blurry.” You reply as tears started to stream down your cheeks.
Were you going blind?? Is this it? You’re not going to be able to see your family’s faces? Never see your own reflection? You feel yourself slipping into shock.
“Hey! Stay with me now, ok doll? Don’t cry. Doc’s on his way.” You hear Toye’s voice break through your thoughts.
Doc ducked behind the wall with you and Toye.
“What’s the matta’ with her?” You hear Gene ask.
“She can’t see. Says everything is blurry.”
“Gene, I think I’m going blind. Am I going blind??” You asked panicked trying to reach out for him.
“What happened before she couldn’t see?”
“A shell dropped right by her and she went flying into a brick wall.”
Gene nodded, “That’ll do it. You got a concussion, Y/L/N, you ain’t goin’ blind.”
You released a sigh of relief.
“Joe, can you get her back to HQ? She ain’t no good out here if she can’t see nothin’.”
“I got her, Doc.”

Toye got you back to an aid station not long after Easy Company claimed victory over Carentan. You remained there until the following day after your vision returned. As you approached a group of the guys from Easy, you were welcomed with whoops and cheers.
“Hey! Look who it is!” Luz called out.
All the guys turned to find you walking towards them.
“Hey look what the cat dragged in!” Malarkey joked.
The chorus of laughter from the men lifted your spirits.
“Yeah, I look rough, I know. Thanks guys.” You greet.
You looked around for Toye.
“He’s over there.” Luz pointed out as he gestured with is thumb over his shoulder.
“Oh, I just, uh, wanted to thank him for-“ you began.
“-yeah, yeah we know. He’s over there.” Malarkey interjected pointing down the street.
You feel yourself get flustered so you scamper off to where they said Joe was. As you walk through the rubble that Carentan has become, you see Toye standing in a circle with a few of the other guys from Easy. He throws his cigarette butt on the ground, stomping it out with his boot before he turns and sees you.
His face lights up when he saw you walking up.
“Hey there she is!” Guarnere hailed.
Bill met you and extended his hand for you to shake, which you obliged.
“Good to see you, Bill.”
“Glad to see you up and about, doll.” He pulled you in closer, “Someone’s been real worried about you since they left you at the aid station, by the way.” He disclosed.
You pull back and met Bill’s face with confusion. He winked and motioned over to Toye with his chin.
“Go on and say hi to him.” Bill added.
You narrow your eyes at him and smile. You slowly approach Toye as he stood there with his hands in his pockets and smirking as he patiently waited for you.
“Hey, Toye.” You squeak.
“Hey, Y/L/N. Good to see you.” He replied with his signature husky voice.

“Well, if it weren’t for you, I probably wouldn’t be here. Thank you for helping me.” You say as you leaned in and kissed him on the cheek.
You hear Guarnere whistle. You turn around and shake your head at him.
Toye cleared his throat, “It was nothin’.”
You both stood there awkwardly until Bill came over.
“Hey, the guys were going to go to the bar that survived the wreck. You wanna join us later for a few night caps, Y/L/N?”
“Sure, if I can find a place to get cleaned up.”
“Ok it’s that little place over there. We’ll all be there around 1900, aight?”
You knew Bill was scheming something for you and Toye. You look at him suspiciously.
“Ok, I’ll see you guys there later.”

You breeze through the front door of the pub and begin scanning the room for the familiar faces of Easy.
“Hey! Y/F/N! Over here!” Guarnere called out waving his hand.
You push through the crowd to get to the table where most of your guys were sitting. You catch Toye playing darts with LT Compton, Luz, and Heffron.

“What can I getchya?” Bill asked.
“Oh, whatever you’re drinking, Bill.” You reply.
“Comin’ right up.” He announced as he walked to the bar.
You look back to Toye and catch his eyes looking at you too. He smiled and raised his glass to you with a wink. You smile back and give him a little wave.
“Here ya go.” Bill returned handing you a pint glass of beer.
You cheers and take a hearty gulp.
“Thanks, Bill.” You say as you squeeze his arm.

The night was filled with laughter, banter, and taunts amongst Easy. And somehow, your glass kept getting magically refilled by each of the guys. You had to refuse Malarkey’s offer to buy your next round because you felt your head starting to spin.
“Ok, we’ll slow down.” Don chuckled, “But when you’re ready, I got the next one!”
“Yessir.” You quipped.
You turn towards the dart boards and see that Toye had moved. You began to search the room for him and suddenly stop at the bar where he was talking to a local woman dressed in a tightly fit dress.
You felt a distinct sense of dread mixed with anger, but you weren’t sure why. The longer you watched Toye leaning closer to whisper in her ear while she giggled, the more your rage boiled over inside.
“What’s the matter, doll? You gotta look on ya like you’re gonna murder someone.” You hear Guarnere chime in.
You avert your eyes to the floor.
“It’s nothing.” You say quickly.
Bill looked where you were just looking.
“Well ain’t that a son of a bitch. After all the trouble I went through to set you’s guys up, he goes and finds another bird to chat up.”
You look at Bill, “What do you mean set us up?”
Bill looked at you alarmed.
“Oh, well, I thought you knew. Toye over there has got it real bad for ya. Has ever since basic but he figured he never had a chance. I told him you were a catch and that you had a thing for him too.”

“Oh do I now?” You asked astounded by his response.
“Well, don’tchya?”
“I suppose he’s handsome. Good soldier. But looks like he’s not as sweet on me as you think.” You state as you gesture to Toye by the bar getting disgustingly close to the blonde bombshell.
“Ah, he’s an idiot. He’s just trying to get laid.”
You look at him with daggers behind your eyes. Bill’s eyes widen.
“Uh, what I mean is he don’t care about her, ya know? He’s trying to not think about you because he thinks you’re outta his league.” Bill hastily explained.
“Yeah? Well, I’ll get his attention.” You declare as you storm off towards the bar.
“Ah shit.” Bill mumbled to himself rolling his eyes.
You walk up to a soldier from Fox Company standing a few feet away from where Toye was with his new little friend. You approach the bar and slightly bend over to the surface of the bar and rest your elbows on it. The soldier noticed you right away and a devilish grin appeared across his face.
You look over at him and smile.
“Hey, angel, you’re the prettiest face in here.” He said as he scanned you from head to toe.
You see Toye look over the blonde’s shoulder at you. So you inched closer to the stranger.

“At least someone noticed how hard I worked on my make up tonight.” You say loud enough for Joe to hear.
Toye’s jaw started to tighten. Your plan was working like a charm.
“What are you talkin’ about? You’re a dish!” He returned enthusiastically, “Can I get you a drink?”
“A pint is fine.”
Toye excused himself from the company of his little vixen and approached you with obvious vigor. He stopped so close to you, you can feel his breath on your face.
“You think you should have anymore?” Toye asked in a low gravelly tone.
You were almost a puddle at his feet.
“What’s one more?” You dismiss.

Toye glared at him, a clear warning with his fierce gaze to back off. “Shut up.”

He turned back to you. “You hit your head hard yesterday. You got a concussion, remember? Drinking too much isn’t good for you right now.” He cautioned.
The soldier behind Toye huffed outloud. You bring your face closer to his.
“How about you go on back to your little blonde bunny over there and worry about her?” You say softly staring intensely into his eyes.
You snidely smile and gently push him aside to accept the beer the Fox soldier was holding for you. Toye grabbed your wrist before you could get your fingers around the glass.
“Because I’m worried about you.” He sternly replied.
“Hey, pal, I’m not gonna tell ya-“
Before the guy could finish his sentence, Toye swung and punched him across the face sending him to the ground like a sack of potatoes.
“Joe, what the hell is the matter with you?” You bark.
He turned to face you, his teeth clenched and resentment in his eyes.
“Isn’t this what you wanted? You got my attention.” He said raising his arms to the side.
Just then, another Fox Company soldier soared in and tackled Toye. When Guarnere saw Toye get sacked, him and the rest of Easy rushed in, clashing with Fox Company in a battle royalé in the middle of the dance floor.
You grab a bottle of whiskey and force your way into the horde to smash it over the head of one of the opposing soldiers when you suddenly feel your feet swiftly leave the floor, and you find yourself once again thrown over Joe Toye’s shoulder as he rushes out the front door.
You start to push off of his back to look at him.
“What are you doing?? Put me down, NOW! This is completely barbaric! Were you raised by wolves??”
“Shut your mouth.” Toye said sharply.
He wouldn’t cave no matter how hard you struggled. He continued to carry you until he got to the house where you had been staying at with the field nurses. He opened the front door and practically threw you onto the couch in the main corridor.
“You’re an absolute animal, Joe Toye.” You snarled at him.
“Yeah? You haven’t even seen the worst of it yet.” He retorted.
You stood up, only to lose your balance and fell backward on to the couch again.
“Well save it.” You spit back crossing your arms, “You can go now. I’m sure that little dish at the bar is waiting on you.”
Toye furrowed his eyebrows at you, “You’re the only one even thinking about her. I haven’t even given her a second thought since you walked through the door of that place!”
You scoff, “Sure, Joe. Didn’t seem like it when your hands were all over her like a magnet.” You pointed out as you stood up slowly.
“Yeah?” He queried as he closed the gap between the two of you, “You mean like this?”
He roughly grabbed you by the waist and kneaded your hips with his strong calloused hands as he pulled you into him. Your faces so close, you thought he was going to kiss you, but he only hovered over your mouth. You were a deer in the headlights, your words caught in your throat somewhere. You almost forgot to take breath when you started to feel faint, so you took in a deep breath through your nose to recover.
You put your hands on his chest and started to push away.
“What are you doing, Toye?” You manage to say.
He jerked you back into him, slithering his one hand across the small of your back while the other one firmly caressed the swell of your ass. You tried to protest, but your voice betrayed you only allowing a whimper to escape from your throat. This man had you a melting hot mess in his arms and it only made you angrier that he was getting you flustered.
“What? Got nothin’ snarky to say now, sweetheart?” He teased.
The fire inside you began to rise, and you weren’t sure if it was because you were turned on, or pissed off.
“I hate you.” You sneered as you slipped out of his grasp and headed for the staircase.
Before you could lift your foot to take the first step, you feel yourself twirled back around and face to face with Toye in his arms.

I took this yesterday at the works on paper show at the NGA. This is a popular painting in the usual form on this blog and here we see it look much darker than we are used to. Some of these bright scans we have had forever I am finding are a bit different than reality, but then you have to take into account preferences of the format these are being displayed in. Catalog scans often go for punchy bright looks that dazzle immediately.
More and more, galleries are now using lower light (such as this) to display Rothko works in the manner he might have intended, which would be the kind of lighting he used when painting them. Lighter scans are not exactly fiction as Rothkos (as i have been over on this blog many times) are extremely sensitive to light, both bright and dark and warm and cool. This means that when you bring the lighting up to a lot of museum's standards, you'd get a lighter look to the photo.
This kind of lighting is good for a lot of types of painting but, for me, when you start seeing these works in lower light, Rothko's original intentions make sense.

Louis Tomlinson has dropped a surprise album ‘Live’ – featuring songs that he recorded at 15 shows across 15 different cities.
Announced and shared yesterday (April 25), the album comes after the singer and former One Direction member embarked on two world tours over the past three years – playing just shy of 200 shows globally.
Now, a variety of performances from both tours – the ‘Louis Tomlinson World Tour’ and the ‘Faith in the Future World Tour’ – have been compiled into a new live album, which is available now.
Fifteen songs are included in the tracklist, and each was recorded in a different city, at a different show from across the three-year run. The album comes in both digital and physical formats, and features his singles including ‘Bigger Than Me’, ‘We Made It, ‘Walls’ and ‘Out Of My System’, alongside fan favourite album tracks, all released live for the very first time.
“I’ve been lucky enough to spend the last 3 years touring the world twice over. The feeling I get sharing those live moments will be with me forever,” Tomlinson said in a statement. “To be able to record these songs from all over the world and put them out as an album like this feels so special, and a real tribute to the fans who make each and every show feel unique and incredible. Thank you! Enjoy!”
There are four exclusive tracks split between the physical editions of ‘Live’, including a special version of the One Direction classic ‘Where Do Broken Hearts Go’ – which is available only on the double CD.
Accompanying video clips of compiled tour footage will be shared on Louis’s social channels to support the release, showcasing a glimpse into his past three years on the road and 170 performances.

At time of writing, Tomlinson has shared two huge solo albums since departing from One Direction. His debut album arrived in the firm of 2020’s ‘Walls’, which has sold over 1.5 million copies, and the follow-up was called ‘Faith In The Future’. The latter went to Number One in the UK, Spain and Belgium, and Top 5 in the USA, Australia, New Zealand and across Europe.
Since May last year, Tomlinson has been on his ‘Faith In The Future World Tour’, which hits South America next month for its final leg. From there, the vocalist has a number of festival appearances lined up for the summer. Find remaining tickets to his shows here.

It took over two years, but I finally finished watching the entirety of Supernatural. I took a week to process some thoughts before foisting them upon Tumblrland, so here we go!
I did not expect to like it. Specifically the ending.
The original reason this Supernatural rewatch began was to see Castiel's confession in context. I wanted to see what drove Tumblr's primary form of newscasting, what got the Supernatural fandom back from the depths of superhell, and thrust the bury your gays queerbaiting discussion to the forefront of every YouTube video essay—and to potentially seek justice for my first ever gay ship, good ol' Destiel. It is for this reason that I wholeheartly did not expect leave 15 seasons of this fucking show feeling content.
This was a hard task. I wanted to stop so badly. I don't think I could tell you a single season I liked the plot of. HOWEVER, it did teach a valuable lesson: if you're looking for good representation in Supernatural, you're looking in the wrong place. This applies to even to show's representations of itself.
Supernatural should have ended 11 seasons before it did, and yet, much like nearly every character in the show, it just keeps on coming. Season 12 nearly did me in, but oh? Season 13-15? It was worth it to get to the seasons where the target demographic was literally anyone who would watch the show. The main plot? Nope. The filler? Yes. I loved so many episodes from these seasons! Scoobynatural, Advanced Thanatology, Tombstone, The Scorpion and the Frog, Various & Sundry Villains, Optimism, Peace of Mind, Atomic Monsters, Golden Time, Last Call, The Heroes' Journey, The Gamblers, Last Holiday.
Cass's confession made me absolutely bawl my eyes out for the remaining episodes of Supernatural (I was a blubbering little ball, throwing in a good few mutterings about Our Flag Means Death along the way) However, in the end, it just felt right that it should end this way. Not in terms of good queer representation, not in terms of my love of Destiel, but this is what the characters each needed.
Death means nothing on Supernatural because of the ways characters need each other to keep going. Cass telling Dean how he feels means he can let go. Dean getting permission from Sam to stop fighting death means he can let go. Sam living out a full life away from hunting means he can let go. All the characters have what they need so we as an audience can let go.
As much as I will still very much struggle to sit through the main plot points of Supernatural, the characters will always have a place in my heart. They just couldn't die, couldn't fully fit the original format of the show, and just kept finding family (and trauma) in literally everything. I'm glad they're resting well.
I final note I absolutely had to include: DEAN IS SO BISEXUAL THE ENTIRE SHOW! I somehow thought "oh maybe we've been exaggerating this". No, no. I—I... I have problems now. Problems that can only be resolved with getting back into the Supernatural fandom.

"Let's do it," you say, "let's get married."
The air is cold against your cheeks once you step onto the balcony. Your breath comes out in white clouds of smoke, drawing trails of mist that disappear against the winds of winter. The words, too, come out slowly from your mouth.
Remus is smoking a cigarette, leaning onto the veranda. James, Sirius, Lily and Peter left a while ago. It's just you two now.
You wait, expectant. The snow rages outside your little flat. It rages inside you, too.
"We want to do it while we can," James had explained at the table, holding onto Lily's hands. The gesture had you breathless for a moment, painfully aware of how much you are missing. "We might not survive the war, the time for living is now."
And you had thought he had been right, at the time. James and Lily wanted to die without regrets and, in a way, their wedding itself was a defiance against the war.
You can not subdue us, it said, you cannot scare us. A pureblood and a muggleborn would be joined in marriage in the middle of the world's greatest attempt to stop exactly that. There is some sort of irony about it that sits quite right.
It's less romantic to you, really. Your love is but a mundane feeling.
James and Lily are larger than life in contrast; their union a symbol of something rebellious, their love alive against all odds.
You feel a little selfish, after giving it some thought, because the only thing you want is Remus to yourself. But perhaps just loving is enough, during these times of terror.
Remus inhales, then slowly lets out a puff of smoke. You just stare, trying to remember this moment. The way his tousled hair sits against his forehead, that scar on his nose you've always been so fond, the way his scars shine against the moonlight. You try to remember, treasure this instant so it won't be lost forever, knowing that you'll lose him.
"I'm sorry," Remus says without meeting your gaze. It's something quiet and small, you can't bring yourself to blame him. "But I can't."
The blow comes quietly, making your chest hurt. You can't say this is groundbreaking, that the world shatters around you because it does not. You held a little hope that he'd say yes, that his love for you would be stronger than whatever it is he's fighting back.
But it does not.
You were always an outsider, a stranger in your own relationship. Remus had always hidden something from you, something big, that you should have known. He disappeared, for days on end, and would never tell you where. When you asked about his scars, he'd lie, his innermost worries, he'd never tell. Remus never let you see him whole, but you thought he would, with time and patience, and that was your mistake.
You were just never that kind of couple.
"I'm sorry," Remus says again.
"I know," you whisper.
"I love you," he repeats.
"I know," you say back.
You try to remember this moment, record it on your memory, but even as he stands before you, the details have already started escaping your memory.
Remus Lupin was never and would never be yours. But you've known that for so long it might as well not hurt at all.
Except it does. It really, really does.

"Garcia. Can you confirm the address?" I held my phone to my ear, creeping around the side of the house in the dark. This lead seemed like a dead end. No one was here. My gun was heavy in my hand as it hung by my side. The address is correct Lyn. I just had to make sure. "Well, there's no one here Gar.."
A loud shot ripped through the phone. Garcia froze, eyes glazed over as she tried to listen for anything. "Lyn?! Agent Colesta!" Fear burnt her chest. That was a shot. There had been a shot and now she wasn't answering. It took a few seconds for her to come to her senses. Her fingers hit keys frantically. Hotchner. His steady voice was little comfort. "Sir, Lyn..Agent Colesta. She....she." Penelopes rambling was incoherent. Garcia. Calm down. What happened? Forever the voice of reason. Taking a deep breath, she calmed herself. "Agent Colesta was checking out that lead. She was saying there wasn't anyone there, I heard a shot and she isn't responding." Saying it made her panic again. Send us the address Garcia. Then the call cut off. She had already send the information to them. All she could do was wait.
Hotch pocketed his phone. All eyes were on him, waiting for whatever Garcia had been so panicked over. "Agent Colesta may have been injured. Morgan, Prentiss, Reid are coming with me to apprehend the unsub. JJ, Rossi, you stay here to route any calls or information we might need." A silence settled over the team as they jumped into action. In a matter of minutes, they were in the cars, vests on. The house was 7 minutes away and the drive there was the worst. Everyone was on edge. Lyn had been with the team for 9 months and had developed strong relationships with each and every one of them. Spencer sat in the backseat, leg shaking. There was this indescribable feeling. It was fear, sorrow, guilt, anger all rolled into one. The idea of Lyn being hurt, or worse, ignited a physical pain. He didn't have chance to question it. His main focus was on the moments until the car stopped.
They kept formation as the team rushed through the property. Hotch signaled for Prentiss and Morgan to go to house and find the unsub. Reid ran around the side of the house, eyes scanning for any sign. His gun was in his hand but his main focus was on finding her. And find her he did. Agent Colesta was laying on the ground beside the house, unmoving. Dread surged through him. She wasn't moving. His fingers found his earpiece, connecting him to his team members. "Found her. We need EMS." He didn't wait for a response, kneeling down next to his colleague. "Agent Colesta." His attempts to call out to her were pointless, her head lulled to the side, her face pale. She had been shot. They had expected that but seeing it, was so much worse than Reid could ever have imagined. Her left shoulder was coated in blood, pooling onto the dirt beneath her. Even in the dark, the red was so prominent that it made him feel slightly sick. All his genius left him for a moment. Pressure on the wound. Reid told himself what to do. His hands found the gunshot wound, pressing down on it, hard. Based on the time of Garcia's call, she must have been bleeding out for around 11 minutes. Every statistic was running through his head. Chances are that she would be fine. The bullet hadn't gone through anything vital. Even if the statistics pointed to her being okay, Reid couldn't shake the horrid feeling settling into his chest.
Reid didn't know how long he had sat there, holding her shoulder. Time wasn't real in that moment. All he knew was the fear he had. A hand tapped him. "Reid. EMS are here." Morgan's voice managed to break through his trance. Looking over his shoulder, the doctor didn't release his hold. He didn't let go when the lights of the ambulance came into view. It took Morgan physically prying his friend away, to let EMS do their jobs. Reid stared down at his hands. Blood coated his palms, turning his skin sticky and making it feel tight. The germophobe in him was repulsed by the sight, the unhygienic conditions coating his hands. But the rest of him didn't care. The young doctor fought out of Morgans hold, following the paramedics as they wheeled Lyn away. The others watched on in a mixture of concern and disbelief as Reid rushed towards the ambulance. They had never seen him look so desperate. It was Hotch that stopped him, stood in front of him. "I can ride with her in the ambulance." His eyes didn't leave her unconscious figure. "No. I'll go with Agent Colesta. You clean up and meet us at the hospital with Morgan and Prentiss." Reid wanted to argue but the finality in his tone was glaringly obvious.
Doctors gave Agent Colesta the all clear, explaining her condition to Hotch. A mild concussion, a gunshot wound to the shoulder. The rest of the team was gathered in waiting room, scared for their friend and colleague. The unsub was in holding, ready to be processed and sent down for his crimes. Reid was bouncing his leg, his nervousness pouring out of him. They didn't need to be profilers to read him. If the situation wasn't so serious, they might've teased him. But it wasn't the right time for some lighthearted banter.
Hotch appeared, face as blank as ever. Everyone sat on the hard plastic chairs looked over at him expectantly. The amount of hospital visits the team had racked up together left them with a permanent anxiety whenever they were within a 2 mile radius of the wretched building. "She should be fine. Mild concussion and a gunshot wound to her left shoulder." A wave of relief washed over them. "Can we see her?" Emily asked the question that was on all of their minds. "Only one person at a time." With that, Hotch dismissed himself as his phone began to ring again. It was JJ who stood up first, walking down the hallway to find the right room. The beeping of machinery was the first sound to greet her. A white hospital room held a bed in the centre of the room. Agent Colesta lay beneath the white sheets, looking incredibly peaceful, copper hair tucked underneath her head. There was a chair pulled up to the side of the hospital bed. Wires emerged from beneath the blanket, connecting to a variety of machines. JJ took a seat, watching her friend breath and her heart beat on the monitor. Over the last 9 months every member of the team had developed a close bond with Lyn. One by one they entered the room, sat for a little while and swapped with the next person. JJ just hoped she would be fine and back on her feet in no time. Morgan cursed himself for not being there. Rossi started to plan a way to cheer her up while she recovered. Hotch could already see the fight he would have to have with her about taking time away from work to recover and it make him smile a little, only on the inside though. Emily was preparing all the jokes she could make when Lyn could hear them, already missing the friend who matched her sense of humor. Then it was Spencer's turn. He couldn't bring himself to look at her unconscious face. A small pool of guilt settled in the pit of his stomach. Logically, Spencer knew it wasn't his fault but he couldn't shake the thought that he should've been there, he should've got there quicker. He reach over slowly, taking her hand in his own. Her fingers were limp and cold to the touch. He had washed the blood from his hands ages ago but it was as if he could still feel it, tightening his skin. It was late in the night so Reid felt his eyes become heavy.
Hotch placed a hand on Reid's shoulder, waking him from his sleep. The doctor had fallen asleep with his head on the side of the hospital bed, his hands clasping Lyn's. Spencer shot up, a little startled. His eyes first flick to Agent Colesta before looking over to his boss. "Go back to the hotel Reid, get some sleep." The order didn't sit well with him. "I'm fine Hotch." That earnt him a pointed look. "Get some sleep. Come back in the morning, no earlier than 8." There was no space for argument. Reluctantly, Reid released her hand, standing up and exiting the room, sparing one final glance over his shoulder at his colleague. Hotch took a seat, deciding at least one of them should stay. Agent Colesta was a key part of the team and regularly raised spirits so it pained Hotch to see her so vulnerable and injured.
The lights to the house were off and it looked completely empty. I had a name in the file sat on the passenger seat of the SUV. He was a possible witness to one of the recent murders. Majority of the team was back at the precinct, working on the profile. I tried knocking on the front door anyway, just incase. Unsurprisingly, there was no answer. I moved my jacket to the side, grabbing my phone and dialing Garcia. As it rang, I walked around the side of the house. "Garcia. Can you confirm the address?" I held my phone to my ear, creeping around the side of the house in the dark. This lead seemed like a dead end. No one was here. My gun was heavy in my hand as it hung by my side. The address is correct Lyn. I just had to make sure. "Well, there's no one here Gar.." Pain erupted in my left shoulder. My hand dropped the phone, it smashing instantly. The ringing from the shot echoed in my ears. I could see the shooter running around the back of the house. I didn't even think about it before I was running after him, gun in hand and ignoring the pain and blood. The adrenaline coursing through me pushed me after him. I managed to shoot him in the left thigh, slowing him down slightly as he limped away. My body felt heavy as the world tilted. It was obvious that I was losing a significant amount of blood from my wound. My knee's buckled and I hit the floor, my gun lost from my grip. The ground was incredibly hard as my head hit the floor. I could feel myself bleeding out on the dirt. My team would be here soon. Garcia would have contacted them the second the call cut out. I wasn't that far from the police station. I just had to wait a little longer. The unsub was injured. They'd get him. I could feel unconsciousness threatening me. I knew that I needed to stay awake as I had probably gotten a concussion when I fell, but it was too much. My head lolled to the side and the last thing I heard was the screech of tires.
Everything hurt. There was a beeping to my right. A tightness across my chest. With all my energy, I pried my eyes open, grateful for the dim lights. The sterile smell of hospitals always unnerved me, it was too clean, too artificial. It always reminded me of all the trips I took to A&E as a child in need of stiches or x-rays. I looked around. My eyes caught on a figure sat in the chair beside me. Hotch was slouched a little, tie loosened ever so slightly. Considering the lack of light, it was safe to say it was quite late. I was a little surprised that Hotch had stayed. My weariness began to fade, my senses returning to me a little more. There was an aching in my left shoulder. No. Not an aching. There was a blinding pain radiating from my left shoulder. A small noise bubbled in the back of my throat. That captured Hotch's attention. His eyes found mine and he gave me the slightest smile. "I always knew I was your favourite." Even in my state I was absolutely hilarious. "Don't tell Garcia." Was SSA Aaron Hotchner making a joke? Oh my God. He was. I chuckled slightly as I shifted to try and get a little more comfortable. My movements only worsened the already excruciating pain. I scrunched my face in agony. Without saying a word, Hotch stood up and left the room, stopping a nurse in the hallway. I could remember every detail of what happened. The shot, running after the unsub, collapsing. There was a faint memory of a warm hand clutching mine but it was distant, as if it could have been a dream or hallucination.
After a few pain filled minutes, Hotch came back followed by a doctor and a nurse. There was a flurry of questions to rate my pain, how I was feeling, stuff like that. I tried my best to answer them but I was struggling to keep up. All I wanted was to go home, see my friends. I felt like a test subject as they poked and prodded me, shifting the top of the hospital gown to reveal a bloodied dressing wrapped across my shoulder and around my chest. There's a distant conversation about pain meds of some sort but it was all lost to me. I trusted Hotch to make all the decisions, seeing as he was listed as my next of kin since all my family was on a different continent. His serious expression remained as he spoke to the doctor, discussing the best course of treatment. In the end, the nurse hooked me up to another IV, pumping morphine through my veins. My head grew clouded, the drug dimming all my senses. I was pretty sure Hotch was asked to leave when the nurse changed my dressing. After that, I fell into a morphine fueled sleep.
It took them 2 days to discharge me. Even when they did, I was pumped full of pain meds. I was a little loopy the whole time. The team stopped by on their way to the jet, bringing my overnight bag with them. "I'm gonna have a cool scar now. Watch out Morgan, you've got some competition." Derek laughed as my really bad joke, probably out of pity but I was so out of it that I truly believed I was the next Peter Kay. Prentiss offered to help me get dressed before being released. I was so sick of the thin hospital gown that felt like shitty paper. Emily helped me with my t-shirt, sliding it over my injured shoulder. My left arm was in a sling to keep moving it to a minimum.
While I had been discharged from the hospital, I hadn't been cleared to fly just yet. Because of that, I wouldn't be going on the jet with everyone else. Originally, I was meant to be driving with Hotch. Our case had only taken us around 4 hours away from home so it wasn't too difficult to get me back home. However, all morning he had been taking calls and checking his watch. "You should go on the jet Hotch. Whatever that is, is more important." He seemed torn at my slightly slurred words. "You need to get back and you can't fly." He tried to reason but there was a nagging in the back of his mind. "I can drive." A new voice joined the conversation from the doorway of my hospital room. Reid stood there, a small bunch of flowers clasped in his hand. My heart melted just a little. "You don't have to Reid." Spencer wasn't the biggest fan of driving and everyone knew it. "I can do it Hotch, really."
And with that, I found myself in the passenger seat of an SUV with Reid behind the wheel. We set off about mid afternoon, driving for hours. The small bouquet of flowers sat on my lap. At the start of the journey I tried to make some conversation but the drugs just made it come out as incoherent ramblings. Spencer didn't seem bothered by it, responding to what he could, smiling at me when I made absolutely zero sense. The radio played quietly in the background as the sun set. I hummed along as I stared out the window. Every time I went for a long drive over here, I was always shocked that there were no roundabouts. Back home there was one every 2 seconds but here, they're non-existent. I tried to push the thoughts of home from my mind. I hated that the painkillers made me feel as if I had no control over my mind or body.
I hadn't been paying much attention. So I was a little surprised when the car slowed to a stop. We were parked in front of my apartment building. I turned to Spencer as he turned the engine off. "Thank you." My voice came out all high pitched and wobbly. His eyes were filled with concern. "What's wrong? Are you in pain?" The words fell from his lips in a hurried cascade. I shook my head as tears welled up in my eyes. He reached across and held my hand. It was a comforting, familiar feeling. "What's the matter then?" I knew I was being emotional because of the drugs but I couldn't stop it. "I miss home." The whisper released the tears and they rolled down my cheeks. "Do you want to go back to England?" There was this look on his face, that when paired with the tone of his voice, broken my heart a little more. My tears fell quicker, turning into small sobs. "No, I like it better over here." The words mixed with my sobbing made no sense. God, these pain meds were really screwing with me. There was a little bit of humor in Spencer's eyes but he tried to keep a serious expression, probably as not to upset me further. "Lets get you inside." He quickly got out of the car, grabbing my bag and opening my door. Like a gentleman, Reid led me towards my building as I tried to calm myself down. By the time we had reached my door, all tears had stopped. He retrieved my keys from my bag, opening my front door.
Spencer put my flowers in a vase, got me a glass of water and sat down on the sofa next to me. The meds were wearing off a little but I was still as high as a kite. "Thank you for driving me Reid." I dropped my head back against the cushion. "It was actually a lot of fun, I really enjoyed our conversations." I knew he was just humoring me but it meant a lot. "I like it a lot better here anyway." I gave him a toothy grin. "Really?" His smile made my heart flutter. Stupid crush. "Yeah, things are just better for me here." Our eyes remained locked as I spoke. He didn't say anything, as if he was waiting for me to continue, explain. "I never really had many friends back home. You guys welcomed me and made me feel like family, I've never had people be so nice to me before." His eyes turned a little sad. "And, there's no you back home." My words were slurred slightly but my new found confidence was as clear as day. Spencer's face grew shocked and his cheeks flushed ever so slightly. "I was so bummed when I thought you hated me because I really like you Spencer. You're probably one of my favourite Americans, after Garcia of course."
Spencer remained flustered the whole way home. Lyn's words echoed through his mind. The look in her eyes when she said those words. "I really like you Spencer." Like a friend. Like a good friend. Nothing more. Yet the mere thought that there was even a slight chance she felt the same way as he did made his heart beat erratically. Stupid crush.

Ok. Thoughts on the Itoshi Sibs / their parallels with Isagi?
HELLO this took forever for me to answer because summer school and the sadness. as you know.
also i went too crazy with tying blue lock into my fixation with japanese nationalism so it got way too complex and i got scared but now i'm just gonna make that its own post (<- said the same thing about bsd. that analysis about bsd's connection with japanese nationalism has been sitting in my docs for a year now i think)
(smh this is what happens when the japanese imperial army almost wipes out your entire bloodline /gen /srs)
anyway. all that waiting to say that rin is... just some guy to me
usually a fw anime boys named rin. esp if they're the sworn rival of the plain protagonist. not necessarily this one though
i have no clue why he doesn't scratch my brain properly. he just doesn't. i need to spend a good three hours staring at the ceiling at night to figure that out
when you first sent me this i didn't really care for sae much either. now i do
that's how long this has been sitting in my drafts 😃😃

i do play out random scenes in my head to test out if i like them or not

then i imagined sae smiling
and i was like "what the fuck... why is that so endearing........"
that was the turning point but it really was a lot of sitting and contemplating sae's character honestly
to really understand him and why he'd be friends with kaiser
and sae is kinda just like me frfr
that guy can't do anything other than soccer/football. he has nothing going on beyond that
and yeah. yeah... i get that.......
it's the reason why i like a bunch of other bllk characters but it's most pronounced with sae yk

anyway those are my general itoshi brothers thoughts
now for the parallels part.
(this is the part that killed me and i wanna go more in-depth. but i'm saving that for another post. because holy shit my original idea was so fucking ambitious)
i had other thoughts and god i wish i wrote that stuff down
but the major thing i want to get into here is dependence
isagi is independent. soo independent it's kinda crazy
this was outlined most during the second selection with bachira where he had to learn to play by himself
meanwhile there's rin who seems independent on the surface
however, rin has always been dependent on sae in one way or another
when they were younger, rin was dependent on sae to take care of and guide him
rin also depended heavily on sae on the field
now that they are older, sae's attempt to shake rin off has just made rin's dependence on sae even more intense, just in a different way
rin's only motivation to play soccer/football had been to "crush" sae
...but now he's met isagi
and his obsession has found a new object
with the recent chapters, now we know he places isagi and sae on a similar level in his personal hierarchy, and his desire to destroy sae has bled into rin's feelings toward isagi
while rin has only one rival, the same can't be said for isagi
isagi gains rivals like pokemon, and while they have all played a significant roll in isagi's development as a person and a character, his obsession doesn't consume him. in the PXG vs BM match, he's doesn't fully comprehend the effect he's had on kaiser and rin
and mannn i wish i could find this analysis, but it's gone now
but someone compared isagi's desire to "devour" to rin and nagi's desire to "kill"
I WISH I COULD REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT THEY SAID
but from what i remember, "devouring" someone is temporarily defeating them, but both parties ultimately improve so there's room for them to meet again and help each other improve even more
however, "killing" someone is defeating them completely so they're never able to play/improve ever again
which outlines the fact that while isagi can be a little bitch on the field, he wants his rivals to improve alongside him, and in the end, he wants the best for people (in terms of soccer/football)
which is why he never became overly-dependent on bachira and why he treats midfielders as actual human beings 😭😭
isagi is independent, but he pushes for the people around him to be just as independent
the itoshi brothers are different though
rin is codependent on sae, and you could say his hatred/obsession with isagi is a different type of codependency
but that thing about treating midfielders as human beings...
uh. that doesn't really apply to rin
sae is somewhat similar with how he "tamed" shidou but it's not THAT imbalanced lmao
there's also how the three of them are on different places of the striker-midfielder spectrum
in-universe and within the fandom, rin is perceived as japan's ultimate striker. his raw shooting power + metavision makes him perfect for this position.
however sae, another metavision user, is the perfect midfielder
then there's isagi who's tried emulating rin's play style at first but is ultimately most similar to sae, leading people to say that isagi is better suited to be a midfielder rather than a striker
while rin represents what the ultimate japanese striker is, something isagi is trying to reach, sae's path is one that isagi could easily fall down instead
many people have theorized that sae became a midfielder to improve rin's chances at becoming a better striker. sae may be considered to have a strong ego, but if this turns out to be true, that might not be the case lmao

*Cough* Holy freakin' moly does making an MV take so long. Before you roll off your bed, I'll say that part of the reason making the art took so long was because I have trouble drawing Marx consistently.

In all seriousness though, a lot of times I don't really see a lot of editors/ MV makers getting appreciation for their efforts. And now that I've personally experienced making an MV for the first time, it's also increased my admiration to the people who dedicate their time to this! All the kudos to them.

I also really like the color palette of 2nd image. That art of Marx was the last one I did during production (aka I drew it this morning), and just look at him. He's such a bastard he's the best.

Mmmm yeah it sure is the pre chorus! I put a bar behind the text in the middle because I didn't want people to stare into their soulless eyes for too long. That probably worked!

When I first added in the expression change, I fangirled over it a little on the first rewatch. Like, come on! They suddenly look mischievous, and the color change on the background! I know I drew it but still!
For the rest, I experimented a little with all the "Nah"s! I think it ended up well. Most of the lyric editing in this MV is completely original, so I had a couple of things to try out!

This scene is my second favourite. I'm really proud of the details on the tabs and the editing at the beginning! Wish I could put more images but the app only allows ten. Bummer.

The second part of the bridge is nice as well! I tried to make the lyrics snap to the rhythm. Glad I added that tv effect in the bg too!

Louis Tomlinson has dropped a surprise album ‘Live’ – featuring songs that he recorded at 15 shows across 15 different cities.
Announced and shared yesterday (April 25), the album comes after the singer and former One Direction member embarked on two world tours over the past three years – playing just shy of 200 shows globally.
Now, a variety of performances from both tours – the ‘Louis Tomlinson World Tour’ and the ‘Faith in the Future World Tour’ – have been compiled into a new live album, which is available now.
Fifteen songs are included in the tracklist, and each was recorded in a different city, at a different show from across the three-year run. The album comes in both digital and physical formats, and features his singles including ‘Bigger Than Me’, ‘We Made It, ‘Walls’ and ‘Out Of My System’, alongside fan favourite album tracks, all released live for the very first time.
“I’ve been lucky enough to spend the last 3 years touring the world twice over. The feeling I get sharing those live moments will be with me forever,” Tomlinson said in a statement. “To be able to record these songs from all over the world and put them out as an album like this feels so special, and a real tribute to the fans who make each and every show feel unique and incredible. Thank you! Enjoy!”
There are four exclusive tracks split between the physical editions of ‘Live’, including a special version of the One Direction classic ‘Where Do Broken Hearts Go’ – which is available only on the double CD.
Accompanying video clips of compiled tour footage will be shared on Louis’s social channels to support the release, showcasing a glimpse into his past three years on the road and 170 performances.
At time of writing, Tomlinson has shared two huge solo albums since departing from One Direction. His debut album arrived in the firm of 2020’s ‘Walls’, which has sold over 1.5 million copies, and the follow-up was called ‘Faith In The Future’. The latter went to Number One in the UK, Spain and Belgium, and Top 5 in the USA, Australia, New Zealand and across Europe.
Since May last year, Tomlinson has been on his ‘Faith In The Future World Tour’, which hits South America next month for its final leg. From there, the vocalist has a number of festival appearances lined up for the summer. Find remaining tickets to his shows here.
In other Louis Tomlinson news, earlier this week the singer, alongside Courteeners and English Teacher, were among the acts to be honoured at the first-ever Northern Music Awards.
The inaugural ceremony was hosted by the UK’s largest music therapy charity, Nordoff And Robbins and took place at the Albert Hall in Manchester; celebrating northern artists, festivals, venues and industry figures. The event saw Tomlinson named as Artist Of The Year.

So, as directly stated by Davepeta, Vriska is trapped in a time loop, where Tavros doesn't remember anything that happened the previous day, just like in the movie Groundhog Day. That Davepeta called out the movie explicitly in-universe as the reference makes me wonder if events will follow the rough plot of that movie. It's clearly what Davepeta wants to happen, but...Vriska....

Anyway, Vriska offers to let Tavros decide what to do today, for the first time. It took two whole years for her to try that, but she is the Thief of Light and not letting anyone else decide what to do is literally her cosmic role and stuff, so I guess that tracks. And what Tavros wants to do is....play a game.

Last update I said that Vriska saying she's done some things wrong while shrugging and laughing is the ultimate distillation of Vriska, but her having won everything and being miserable about it is also the ultimate distillation of Vriska. She's a woman of contrasts, that Vriskers.

The use of the phrase "session" here outs this line as having Deeper Meanings. Having SBURB sessions over and over so we can play forever is literally Dirk's plan, and most of the fandom is assuming a Candy session is coming.

We fade to black and I thought that was it, but apparently not. This being a visual novel makes it feel like a much bigger update than it is, and also kind of makes you read each line a bit more carefully. It's a good way of having multiple meaty (or, um, candy-y) updates in a short stretch of time, and that's kind of an important part of the "feel" of Homestuck that no one can really replicate.

"Where are you?" Yuna, the closest person you had to a best friend, scolded you over the phone. "On my way! I'm almost there. Sorry, one of the formations took too much time!" You said as you hung up and rushed into the studio you were supposed to be ½ an hour ago. You bowed to the other in the room as Yuna sent a glare towards you and stood in position. Yes, this was a ritual for Yuna to gather all of the choreographers and lead dancers of the label to show their final choreography before any competition. 
The music started and you watched Yuna and Jungkook dance with grace. They caught every beat together, every step Jungkook did, Yuna met him halfway. You've watched them together so many times and you're left in awe every time. No matter how many times she tells you there's nothing between them you refuse to believe that there's NO feelings involved. How else do you trust and are so in sync with a person?

You received a call from one of the staff and rushed to where they called you. 
"Oh my god. Yuna! Are you okay?!" You rushed to her, the poor girl was withering in pain. Jungkook ran into the room and scooped her in his strong arms, "we need to take her to the hospital" he said looking at you and you followed him out of the building. Turns out Yuna tore a ligament and her movement is restricted for 3 months. 
"Oh my god! Are you okay? Do you feel pain?" You asked. She sat there crying her eyes out as Jungkook was already there to comfort her in his arms. "I fucked up the compitition" she said, and you sighed. "Yuna c'mon it happens" she said and as Jungkook left her side to go grab a juice she hugged you, you caressed her hair. "It's not right for Kook to suffer," she said. "Hey, he'll understand, it's not like you did it. It just happened" you assured her. "Y/n you were the only one who was in alot of the practices. I know you pick up choreography just by watching it once or twice. You have it memorised don't you?!" She looked at you with big puppy eyes, and now you felt nervous with the direction the talk was going in. "I-" you stuttered and she continued. "I know you do, you pointed out that change in one of the postures and poses. Please Y/n, do it for me, not the company" she said. "You know I don't do intimate dances, this is mambo" you said. "Y/n you've done more intimate and difficult dances with your dancers" she said. "Yes but they are MY dancers. This is YOUR partner whom I barely know. I mean it, I don't even know his surname. What is he Kim? Lee?" You said and shrugged, trying to reason with her. "It's Jeon" Jungkook's voice rang from the back and you both looked at him "and are you crazy? Y/n L/N? Mambo with me? She freaked out when that new dancer touched her arm a bit out of place" he said, you didn't know if you should be happy as he's siding with you or feel offended. 
Yuna shook her head and looked at you "Y/n if you don't do this we'll be out for the whole rest of the year, not just this season. Which also means no payment for both of us" she said, "Jungkook shouldn't have to, no shut up" she stopped and shushed Jungkook's protests and said "he shouldn't have to live with this, please, at least try?" She looked at you with hopeful eyes, even though Jungkook said otherwise, he did too.
"Okay! I will try! But no promises" you said and Yuna cheered.

Hence, here you were, "your form is good, but you're too stiff" Jungkook remarked, as he tried the steps with you. "Y/n stiff with Jiminie (your lead dancer). You know what, both of you, go get coffee, get to know each other or Y/n will never loosen up”. You both tried to protest but Yuna wasn’t having any, even on the wheelchair she made you two do exactly what she wanted. Hence, after being thrown out of the studio you both walked to the Hybe cafe and grabbed your drinks. “Wah you like (Your favorite drink with special ingredient) I thought you'd be more of a matcha person” he said. “Why would you think that?” You asked and he shrugged chuckling. You learned that Jungkook was also born in Busan and in the same neighborhood as Yuna. He has an elder brother and has been dancing all his life, however he started mambo with Yuna on a whip. “Wait, so You've only ever danced with Yuna?” you asked in shock. “No, but I’ve only ever performed with Yuna,” he said and sipped his drink. You also told him about your family, and how dance has been your only outlet in childhood. How you never really have many real friends so new people scare you. That was when you realized he was as nervous as you were in this situation. But, if you didn’t overcome this both of them would be out for the whole year, until next spring. You sipped and completed the rest of your drink in one go and stood up. “Okay Jeon Jungkook, let's mambo” you said, and he almost choked, “Wah? What happened suddenly?” he asked. “I found my motivation” you said and walked and started walking towards the studio. Jungkook shook his head to see your phone still lying on the table and he quickly grabbed it before following you. 
Mid-way in the elevator, when you felt your pockets empty you exclaimed, “Oh no MY Phone!!” startling the others in the elevator. “This?” Jungkook said and smirked, showing his bunny teeth. You sighed and grabbed it “you could have told me sooner” you whined, “and miss that expression? Nah” he said and the two of you laughed. When you entered the studio you felt a bit better.

“Sounds to me you’re nervous,” you say, walking up to the door with Dieter. “And you know what? You should be,” 
The three of you step inside, you sigh happily at the warmth hugging your body, a small shiver running along the sides of your body. 
When you take another step, you feel a pair of nimble arms hugging you tight. Shocked, your hands hover in the air momentarily before returning the gesture. 
“Dieter told us what happened last night when you were sleeping,” Adaline says, her voice filled with worry. “I’m glad you’re okay. It must’ve been scary,” 
When on earth did he tell them? 
“That’s kind of you but I’m alright, thanks to your son,” 
Adaline reaches out and pinches Dieter’s cheek, “He has his moments,” she answers with a wide smile. “Anyway, come on in, get cozy and hang an ornament,” 
Dieter rolls his eyes and grumbles. "Geez, Mom. You sound like an infomercial. 'Get cozy and hang an ornament! Order now and receive a free tinsel strand!' "
“Oh, hush.” 
You’re not immune to the way Dieter looks at you when a snort cheats its way through your laughter. You clap your hand over your mouth but he only smiles. 
You stand back and observe as Dieter's family bustles around the Christmas tree, hanging ornaments and stringing lights. Adaline hums along to the festive tunes playing on the radio as she carefully hangs a delicate glass angel on a high branch. Claus, grumbles good-naturedly as he struggles to untangle a string of lights. Everett playfully teases Dieter as they both hang shiny tinsel on the branches.
The scent of gingerbread fills the air, making your mouth water. Adaline must’ve been busy baking while you and Dieter were wrestling in the cold—You do feel slightly guilty for not offering to help. 
Dieter notices you standing off to the side and beckons you over. "Come help us instead of just staring," he says with a grin. You smile and join them, picking out a bright red ball ornament to hang on the tree.
As you hang the ornament, you feel Dieter’s heat right next to you. "We always used to put the angel on top of the tree," he explains. "And my mom would always hide a pickle ornament somewhere on the tree, and the person who found it got an extra present on Christmas morning."
“Oh that’s adorable—” 
“Ask him who always found the pickle,” Everett chimes in. “He cheated constantly,” 
“I did not!” 
Everett sticks his tongue out and from the corner of your eyes you see Dieter’s mom smiling from ear to ear, something tells you she has a pickle ornament hidden somewhere in the tree. She catches your gaze and her smile widens into a grin. 
The tree starting to take shape, you can't help but sneak glances at Dieter as you work. The soft glow of the lights and the happy chatter of the family has you feeling like hot chocolate with marshmallows floating on top. If everything could stay like this forever you wouldn’t have any objections whatsoever. 
You stand back and admire the fully decorated tree. It's a true masterpiece, filled with sparkling ornaments and twinkling lights. Dieter's face lights up as he points out his favorite ornament, a hand-painted wooden nutcracker.
You smile at Dieter and squeeze his hand when no one else can see.

“Absolutely not.” 
“Pleaseeeeee--” 
“No.”
“Why not?” you whine. You’re sitting on the floor with Dieter’s mom next to you and between the two of you sits an old karaoke machine. “It’s just one little song,” 
Dieter looks down at you from the couch, the crease between his brows deep. 
“I don’t sing, sweetheart.” 
Claus cuts in, eyes rolling at his son, “You’re really going to make your mother and friend sad just because you might look silly?” 
“I’m doing you guys a favor. Your eyes will bleed as soon as I start to sing,” 
Everett waves his hand, “I’ve heard you plenty of times in the shower. You’re not that bad,” 
“How about I sing with you…like…like a duet?” you say, the living room falling into silence as soon as the question leaves your lips. 
In response to the silence, you hold your breath and look down. You feel his eyes moving across your face— a curious yet warm gaze that makes your pulse quicken. 
After a moment of contemplation, Dieter sighs and nods. "Fine," he says with a smile. "But you have to promise to never tell anyone about this."
With a grin you stand, Dieter takes his place next to you, uneasy as Adaline plugs in the machine and hands you both the dusty microphones. Dieter touches your shoulder and gestures for you to turn your back to the rest of the family, he does the same.
“What are we going to sing anyway?” Dieter grunts, his eyes fixated on you. 
“First give me your hand,” you say and he does so with a raise of an eyebrow. You start to trace his name into his palm, slowly. His eyes widen, his breathing quick as his eyes drop to your fingers. “Feeling better?” you ask when you’re done tracing the R. 
“Baby It’s cold outside.” he says suddenly. 
“Uh, what?” 
“We should totally sing that! Baby, it’s cold outside. It’s perfect!” 
He promptly turns around and you follow, albeit your turn done more hesitantly. He leans into you, breath ghosting your skin. 
“You’re the one who got me into this so you better not be getting cold feet,” he mutters quickly, then turns his gaze to his mother. “We’re going to sing baby, it’s cold outside,” 
“Ohh, good choice,” Adaline nods, turning on the karaoke machine. 
The cozy living room aglow with the soft light of the Christmas tree, you can't help but feel a flutter in your chest as Dieter approaches you. You’re absolutely dreading the fact his family members are watching you intently from the couch. You try to push your insecurities to the back of your head. 
The music starts to play, you and Dieter look at each other a spark flaring between you two. He shoots you a wide grin and your heart sinks into your stomach when he starts to move, his demeanor reminiscent of the famous scene. He truly is a great actor, being able to change his entire being so effortlessly.
Hesitantly, you start to sing, your nerves getting the best of you as you try to decide whether to move or stay rooted to the spot, staring at the Christmas tree. You can feel the eyes of Dieter's family on you, and you feel self-conscious.
Dieter takes your hand and starts to sing along with you. Your voices blending together perfectly as you playfully flirt and tease each other through the lyrics.
You can't help but laugh as Dieter playfully tries to keep you from leaving, pretending to be the charming yet persistent suitor. You play along, teasing him and pretending to resist his advances.
When the song starts to come to a close, you and Dieter stand close together, gazing into each other's eyes. The tension between you, electric and charged.
You know that you should step back, but you can't resist the pull you have to him. You lean in closer, your lips inches away from his.
In that moment, everything else fades away. There's just you and Dieter, caught up in a moment of wishes and dreams. 
But then the song ends and the moment fades along with it, excited and eager claps fill the room urging both of you to pull away from the other. Dieter smiles sheepishly as he scratches the back of his head, his eyes glued to the floor. 
“Happy?” he asks, voice only a beat above a whisper. 
“Very.”

You’re already outside on the patio when your phone rings. The soft light coming through the window warms your back, and you watch the soft flakes dance down from the sky. Dieter said he would join you in a bit with a glass of mulled wine; His father’s specialty. 
Absentmindedly, you fish out your phone from your pocket, and without even looking you press the cold screen against your warm ear. 
“Hello?” 
“Hello is this Amina Addams?” 
Regret of not checking the caller ID starts to sink in, “It is,” 
"Hi Ms. Addams, my name is Sarah, and I'm a reporter with the Hollywood Insider. I'm just following up on a story we received about you and Dieter Bravo. Can you confirm that you two are in a relationship?"
You take a deep breath before responding, trying to keep your emotions in check. "I'm sorry, but I don't see how my personal life is anyone's business. I'm not going to comment on my relationship with Dieter or anyone else."
"Oh, I see," Sarah says, undeterred. "Well, maybe you can tell me how you met Dieter then? Is it true that you attacked that fan because you were jealous?"
You can feel your annoyance rising. "W–What? No! It was an accident and again, I'm not going to discuss my personal life with you or anyone else. I think it's inappropriate for you to be asking me these kinds of questions."
"I understand your concern, Ms. Addams," Sarah says, her tone turning more conciliatory. "But as a public figure, Dieter's relationships are often of interest to the public. Can you at least tell me if you're enjoying your time together in the ski resort?"
You can feel your temper flaring at this point. "I'm going to end this call now. I don't appreciate being harassed about my personal life. Goodbye."
With that, you hang up the phone and let out a sigh of frustration. You can't believe the audacity of some reporters, trying to invade your privacy like that. The peaceful Hallmark movie bubble that you formed bursts, reality hitting your skin in the form of cold shards of glass. 
“Who was that? Are you okay?” 
You jump at Dieter’s voice, when you turn you see him looking uneasy, two steaming cups of mulled wine occupying both his hands. You pinch the bridge of your nose and shake your head. 
“It’s nothing. A reporter called, interrogating me about our relationship,” 
Dieter walks up to you and hands you the glass, you take it with a smile and you both turn towards the view, elbows resting on the wooden railing. The snowfall is gentle and peaceful, a soft blanket of white covering the world around you. The flakes dance and twirl in the air, caught in the soft glow of the patio lights. The temperature is just below freezing, a crisp chill in the air that bites at your cheeks and nose, but the mulled wine in your hands is warm and comforting.
You and Dieter stand side by side, shoulder to shoulder, both of you gazing out at the beauty before you. The trees are heavy with snow, their branches bent low beneath the weight. The ground is a pristine expanse of white, unmarred by footprints or tire tracks. 
“How did they even get your number?” he asks, taking a sip. 
You let out a soft chuckle, “I should’ve asked. I have no idea,” 
“It’ll die down soon enough. You worry too much about it,” 
You worry too little, is what you want to say but you bite your tongue, taking a sip of your wine instead. 
“I wish I could go back in time and slap myself before doing something so rash,” 
“You regret it that much, huh?” 
You pick up hints of sadness in his tone, your gaze moving toward him, his face doesn’t give away much but once again the need to comfort him engulfs your very being. 
“I don’t regret coming here,” you whisper. “I am enjoying meeting your family and getting away from it all,” 
You feel relief when you see traces of a smile, “That’s good,” he says nodding. “Speaking of, why did you do it anyway?” 
“Do what? Attack the fan?” you blink heavily when he nods again, your mouth goes dry. You’re not sure what to tell him. You can’t tell him that you’ve been afraid something will happen to him ever since the Cliff Beasts Set fiasco, he’ll think you’re crazy. 
A forced chuckle drops from your lips, “I don’t know, reflexes I guess.” 
“Some reflexes,” he mutters, his eyes briefly glancing up. 
Minutes pass and the snow continues to fall softly around you. Unexpectedly, you feel Dieter's arms slip around your waist, pulling you close. His lips brush against your ear, his warm breath sending shivers down your spine. "Look up," he whispers, his voice low.
You do as he asks, and your eyes meet a sprig of mistletoe hanging above your heads. You can feel the heat rising in your cheeks as Dieter grins at you, his eyes twinkling.
"Well, I think tradition dictates that we have to do this," he says, before leaning down to press his lips gently against yours.
The kiss is soft and sweet, a perfect blend of tenderness and something more and honestly could stand there forever, wrapped in Dieter's arms and lost in his kisses, but eventually, you reluctantly pull back, both of you smiling and breathless. He cups your chin and pulls you so your foreheads touch. 
“You taste like cinnamon,” he whispers. 
“And you like oranges.” 
You know that all of this, the snow, the mistletoe, the warm glow of the patio lights, is only temporary. Soon enough, the snow will melt and you'll have to say goodbye to…whatever this is.
But in this moment, none of that matters.

WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE
WITH THE TRIUMPHANT ‘SO MUCH (FOR) STARDUST’ CAPTURING A WHOLE NEW GENERATION OF FANS, FALL OUT BOY ARE RIDING HIGH, CELEBRATING THEIR PAST WHILE LOOKING TOWARDS A BRIGHT FUTURE. PETE WENTZ AND PATRICK STUMP REFLECT ON RECENT SUCCESSES AND THE LESSONS LEARNED FROM TWO DECADES OF WRITING AND PERFORMING TOGETHER.

You have just completed a US summer tour that included stadium shows and some of your most ambitious production to date. What were your aims going into this particular show? 
PETE: Playing stadiums is a funny thing. I pushed pretty hard to do a couple this time because I think that the record Patrick came up with musically lends itself to that feeling of being part of something larger than yourself. When we were designing the cover to the album, it was meant to be all tangible, which was a reaction to tokens and skins that  you can buy and avatars. The title is made out of clay, and the painting is an actual painting. We wanted to approach the show in that way as well. We've been playing in front of a gigantic video wall for the past eight years. Now, we wanted a stage show where you could actually walk inside it. 
Did adding the new songs from ‘So Much (For) Stardust’ into the setlist change the way you felt about them?
PATRICK: One of the things that was interesting about the record was that we took a lot of time figuring out what it was going to be, what it was going to sound like. We experimented with so many different things. I was instantly really proud. I felt really good about this record but it wasn’t until we got on stage and you’re playing the songs in between our catalogue that I really felt that. It was really noticeable from the first day on this tour - we felt like a different band. There's a new energy to it. There was something that I could hear live that I couldn't hear before. 
You also revisited a lot of older tracks and b-sides on this tour, including many from the ‘Folie à Deux’-era. What prompted those choices? 
PETE: There were some lean years where there weren't a lot of rock bands being played on pop radio or playing award shows so we tried to play the biggest songs, the biggest versions of them. We tried to make our thing really airtight, bulletproof so that when we played next to whoever the top artist was, people were like, ‘oh yeah, they should be here.’ The culture shift in the world is so interesting because now, maybe rather than going wider, it makes more sense to go deeper with people. We thought about that in the way that we listen to music and the way we watch films. Playing a song that is a b-side or barely made a record but is someone’s favourite song makes a lot of sense in this era.
PATRICK: I think there also was a period there where, to Pete’s point, it was a weird time to be a rock band. We had this very strange thing that happened to us, and not a lot of our friends for some reason, where we had a bunch of hits, right? And it didn’t make any sense to me. It still doesn’t make sense to me. But there was a kind of novelty, where we could play a whole set of songs that a lot of people know. It was fun and rewarding for us to do that. But then you run the risk of playing the same set forever. I want to love the songs that we play. I want to care about it and put passion into what we do. And there’s no sustainable way to just do the same thing every night and not get jaded. We weren’t getting there but I really wanted to make sure that we don’t ever get there. 
PETE: In the origin of Fall Out Boy, what happened at our concerts was we knew how to play five songs really fast and jumped off walls and the fire marshal would shut it down. It was what made the show memorable, but we wanted to be able to last and so we tried to perfect our show and the songs and the stage show and make it flawless. Then you don’t really know how much spontaneity you want to include, because something could go wrong. When we started this tour, and we did a couple of spontaneous things, it opened us up to more. Because things did go wrong and that’s what made the show special. We’re doing what is the most punk rock version of what we could be doing right now. 
You seem generally a lot more comfortable celebrating your past success at this point in your career. 
PETE: I think it’s actually not a change from our past. I love those records, but I never want to treat them in a cynical way. I never want there to be a wink and a smile where we’re just doing this because it’s the anniversary. This was us celebrating these random songs and we hope people celebrate them with us. There was a purity to it that felt in line with how we’ve always felt about it. I love ‘Folie à Deux’ - out of any Fall Out Boy record that's probably the one I would listen to. But I just never wanted it to be done in a cynical way, where we feel like we have to. But celebrating it in a way where there’s the purity of how we felt when we wrote the song originally. I think that’s fucking awesome. 
PATRICK: Music is a weird art form. Because when you’re an actor and you play a character, that is a specific thing. James Bond always wears a suit and has a gun and is a secret agent. If you change one thing, that’s fine, but you can’t really change all of it. But bands are just people. You are yourself. People get attached to it like it’s a story but it’s not. That was always something I found difficult. For the story, it’s always good to say, ‘it’s the 20th anniversary, let’s go do the 20th anniversary tour’, that’s a good story thing. But it’s not always honest. We never stopped playing a lot of the songs from ‘Take This To Your Grave’, right? So why would I need to do a 20-year anniversary and perform all the songs back to back? The only reason would be because it would probably sell a lot of tickets and I don’t really ever want to be motivated by that, frankly. 
One of the things that’s been amazing is that now as the band has been around for a while, we have different layers of audience. I love ‘Folie à Deux’, I do, I love that record. But I had a really personally negative experience of touring on it. So that’s what I think of when I think of that record initially. It had to be brought back to me for me to appreciate it, for me to go, ‘oh, this record is really great. I should be happy with this. I should want to play this,’ So that’s why we got into a lot of the b-sides because we realised that our perspectives on a lot of these songs were based in our feelings and experiences from when we were making them. But you can find new experiences if you play those songs. You can make new memories with them. 
You alluded there to the 20th anniversary of ‘Take This To Your Grave’. Obviously you have changed and developed as a band hugely since then. But is there anything you can point to about making that debut record that has remained a part of your process since then? 
PETE: We have a language, the band, and it’s definitely a language of cinema and film. That’s maintained through time. We had very disparate music tastes and influences but I think film was a place we really aligned. You could have a deep discussion, because none of us were filmmakers. You could say which part was good and which part sucked and not hurt anybody’s feelings, because you weren’t going out to make a film the next day. Whereas with music, I think if we’d only had that to talk about, we would have turned out a different band.  
PATRICK: ‘Take This To Your Grave’, even though it’s absolutely our first record, there’s an element of it that’s still a work in progress. It is still a band figuring itself out. Andy wasn’t even officially in the band for half of the recording, right? I wasn’t even officially the guitar player for half of the recording. We were still bumbling through it. There was something that popped up a couple times throughout the record where you got these little inklings of who the band really was. We really explored that on ‘From Under the Cork Tree’’. So when we talk about what has remained the same… I didn’t want to be a singer, I didn’t know anything about singing, I wasn’t playing on that. I didn’t even plan to really be in this band for that long because Pete had a real band that really toured so I thought this was gonna be a side project. So there’s always been this element within the band where I don’t put too many expectations on things and then Pete has this really big ambition, creatively. There’s this great interplay between the tour of us where I’m kind of oblivious, and I don’t know when I’m putting out a big idea and Pete has this amazing vision to find what goes where. There’s something really magical about that because I never could have done a band like this without it. We needed everybody, we needed all four of us. And I think that’s the thing that hasn’t changed - the four of us just being ourselves and trying to figure things out. Listening back to ‘Folie’ or ‘Infinity On High’ or ‘American Beauty’. I’m always amazed at how much better they are than I remember. I listened to ‘MANIA’ the other day. I have a lot of misgivings about that record, a lot of things I’m frustrated about. But then I’m listening to it and I’m like, ‘this is pretty good.’ There’s a lot of good things in there. I don’t know why, it’s kind of like you can’t see those things. It’s kind of amazing to have Pete be able to see those things. And likewise, sometimes Pete has no idea when he writes something brilliant, as a lyricist, and I have to go, ‘No, I’m gonna keep that one, I’m gonna use that.’ 
On ‘So Much (For) Stardust’ you teamed up with producer Neal Avron again for the first time since 2008. Given how much time has passed, did it take a minute to reestablish that connection or did you pick up where you left off? 
PATRICK: It really didn’t feel like any time had passed between us and Neal. It was pretty seamless in terms of working with him. But then there was also the weird aspect where the last time we worked with him was kind of contentious. Interpersonally, the four of us were kind of fighting with each other…as much as we do anyway. We say that and then that myth gets built bigger than it was. We were always pretty cool with each other. It’s just that the least cool was making ‘Folie’. So then getting into it again for this record, it was like no time had passed as people but the four of us got on better so we had more to bring to Neal. 
PETE: It’s a little bit like when you return to your parents’ house for the holiday break when you’re in college. It’s the same house but now I can drink with my parents. We’d grown up and the first times we worked with Neal, he had to do so much more boy scout leadership, ‘you guys are all gonna be okay, we’re gonna do this activity to earn this badge so you guys don’t fucking murder each other.’ This time, we probably got a different version of Neal that was even more creative, because he had to do less psychotherapy. 
He went deep too. Sometimes when you’re in a session with somebody, and they’re like, ‘what are we singing about?’, I’ll just be like, ‘stuff’. He was not cool with ‘stuff’. I would get up and go into the bathroom outside the studio and look in the mirror, and think ‘what is it about? How deep are we gonna go?’ That’s a little bit scarier to ask yourself. If last time Neal was like a boy scout leader, this time, it was more like a Sherpa. He was helping us get to the summit. 
The title track of the album also finds you in a very reflective mood, even bringing back lyrics from ‘Love From the Other Side’. How would you describe the meaning behind that title and the song itself?
PETE: The record title has a couple of different meanings, I guess. The biggest one to me is that we basically all are former stars. That’s what we’re made of, those pieces of carbon. It still feels like the world’s gonna blow and it’s all moving too fast and the wrong things are moving too slow. That track in particular looks back at where you sometimes wish things had gone differently. But this is more from the perspective of when you’re watching a space movie, and they’re too far away and they can’t quite make it back. It doesn’t matter what they do and at some point, the astronaut accepts that. But they’re close enough that you can see the look on their face. I feel like there’s moments like that in the title track. I wish some things were different. But, as an adult going through this, you are too far away from the tether, and you’re just floating into space. It is sad and lonely but in some ways, it’s kind of freeing, because there’s other aspects of our world and my life that I love and I want to keep shaping and changing. 
Patrick: I’ll open up Pete’s lyrics and I just start hearing things. It almost feels effortless in a lot of ways. I just read his lyrics and something starts happening in my head. The first line, ‘I’m in a winter mood, dreaming of spring now’, instantly the piano started to form to me. That was a song that I came close to not sending the band. When I make demos, I’ll usually wait until I have five or six to send to everybody. I didn’t know if anyone was gonna like this. It’s too moody or it’s not very us. But it was pretty unanimous. Everybody liked that one. I knew this had to end the record. It took on a different life in the context of the whole album. Then on the bridge section, I knew it was going to be the lyrics from “Love From The Other Side’. It’s got to come back here. It’s the bookends, but I also love lyrically what it does, you know, ‘in another life, you were my babe’, going back to that kind of regret, which feels different in  ‘Love From The Other Side’ than it does here. When the whole song came together, it was the statement of the record. 
Aside from the album, you have released a few more recent tracks that have opened you up to a whole new audience, most notably the collaboration with Taylor Swift on ‘Electric Touch’. 
PETE: Taylor is the only artist that I’ve met or interacted with in recent times who creates exactly the art of who she is, but does it one such a mass level. So that’s breathtaking to watch from the sidelines. The way fans traded friendship bracelets, I don’t know what the beginning of it was, but you felt that everywhere. We felt that, I saw that in the crowd on our tour. I don’t know Taylor well, but I think she’s doing exactly what she wants and creating exactly the art that she wants to create. And going that, on such a level, is really awe-inspiring to watch. It makes you want to make the biggest, weirdest version of our thing and put that out there. 
Then there was the cover of Billy Joel’s ‘We Didn’t Start The Fire’, which has had some big chart success for you. That must have taken you slightly by surprise. 
PATRICK: It’s pretty unexpected. Pete and I were going back and forth about songs we should cover and that was an idea that I had. This is so silly but there was a song a bunch of years ago I had kind of written called ‘Dark Horse’ and then there was a Katy Perry song called ‘Dark Horse’ and I was like, ‘damn it’, you know, I missed the boat on that one. So I thought if we don’t do this cover, somebody else is gonna do it. Let’s just get in the studio and just do it. We spent way more time on those lyrics than you would think because we really wanted to get a specific feel. It was really fun and kind of loose, we just came together in Neal’s house and recorded it in a day. 
PETE: There's irreverence to it. I thought the coolest thing was when Billy Joel got asked about it, and he was like, ‘I’m not updating it, that’s fine, go for it.’  I hope if somebody ever chose to update one of ours, we’d be like that. Let them do their thing, they’ll have that version. I thought that was so fucking cool. 
It’s almost no secret that the sound you became most known for in the md-2000s is having something of a commercial revival right now But what is interesting is seeing how bands are building on that sound and changing it. 
PATRICK: I love when anybody does anything that feels honest to them. Touring with Bring Me The Horizon, it was really cool seeing what’s natural to them. It makes sense. We changed our sound over time but we were always going to do that. It wasn’t a premeditated thing but for the four of us, it would have been impossible to maintain making the same kind of music forever. Whereas you’ll play with some other bands and they live that one sound. You meet up with them for dinner or something and they’re wearing the shirt of the band that sounds just like their band. You go to their house and they’re playing other bands that sound like them because they live in that thing. Whereas with the four of us and bands like Bring Me The Horizon, we change our sounds over time.  And there’s nothing wrong with either. The only thing that’s wrong is if it’s unnatural to you. If you’re AC/DC and all of a sudden power ballads are in and you’re like, ‘Okay, we’ve got to do a power ballad’, that’s when it sucks. But if you’re a thrash metal guy who also likes Celine Dion then yeah, do a power ballad. Emo as a word doesn’t mean anything anymore. But if people want to call it that, if the emo thing is back or having another life again, if that’s what’s natural to an artist, I think the world needs more earnest art. If that’s who you are, then do it. 
PETE: It would be super egotistical to think that the wave that started with us and My Chemical Romance and Panic! At The Disco has just been circling and cycling back. I remember seeing Nikki Sixx at the airport and he was like, ‘Oh you’re doing a flaming bass? Mine came from a backpack.’ It keeps coming back but it looks different. Talking to Lil Uzi Vert and Juice WRLD when he was around, it’s so interesting, because it’s so much bigger than just emo or whatever. It’s this whole big pop music thing that’s spinning and churning, and then it moves on, and then it comes back with different aspects and some of the other stuff combined. When you’re a fan of music and art and film, you take different stuff, you add different ingredients, because that’s your taste. Seeing the bands that are up and coming to me, it’s so exciting, because the rules are just different, right? It’s really cool to see artists that lean into the weirdness and lean into a left turn when everyone’s telling you to make a right. That’s so refreshing. 
PATRICK: It’s really important as an artist gets older to not put too much stock in your own influence. The moment right now that we’re in is bigger than emo and bigger than whatever was happening in 2005. There’s a great line in ‘Downton Abbey’ where someone was asking the Lord about owning this manor and he’s like ‘well, you don’t really own it, there have been hundreds of owners and you are the custodian of it for a brief time.’ That’s what pop music is like. You just have the ball for a minute and you’re gonna pass it on to somebody else. 
We will soon see you in the UK for your arena tour. How do you reflect on your relationship with the fans over here? 
PETE: I remember the first time we went to the UK, I wasn’t prepared for how culturally different it was. When we played Reading & Leeds and the summer festivals, it was so different, and so much deeper within the culture. It was a little bit of a shock. The first couple of times we played, I was like, ‘Oh, my God, are we gonna die?’ because the crowd was so crazy, and there was bottles. Then when we came back, we thought maybe this is a beast to be tamed. Finally, you realise it’s a trading of energy. That made the last couple of festivals we played so fucking awesome. When you realise that the fans over there are real fans of music It’s really awesome and pretty beautiful. 
PATRICK: We’ve played the UK now more than a lot of regions of the states. Pretty early on, I just clicked with it. There were differences, cultural things and things that you didn’t expect. But it never felt that different or foreign to me, just a different flavour…
PETE: This is why me and Patrick work so well together (laughs). 
PATRICK: Well, listen; I’m a rainy weather guy. There is just things that I get there. I don’t really drink anymore all that much. But I totally will have a beer in the UL, there’s something different about every aspect of it, about the ordering of it, about the flavour of it, everything, it’s like a different vibe. The UK audience seemed to click with us too. There have been plenty of times where we felt almost like a UK band than an American one. There have been years where you go there and almost get a more familial reaction than you would at home. 
Rock Sound has always been a part of that for us. It was one of the first magazines to care about us and the first magazine to do real interviews. That’s the thing, you would do all these interviews and a lot of them would be like ‘so where did the band’s name come from?’ But Rock Sound took us seriously as artists, maybe before some of us did. That actually made us think about who we are and that was a really cool experience. I think in a lot of ways, we wouldn’t be the band we are without the UK, because I think it taught us a lot about what it is to be yourself.
