one of the many things that keep me awake at night re: ofmd S2 is that us Izzy people have long argued that his hostility towards Lucius in s1 could be very much read as "your softness has no place in a world like this, you're going to get in serious trouble if you don't change, on any other ship you'd be fucked, I've learned this the hard way why are you being so stupid" and back in S1 none of us expected that to actually become a plot point and then S2 came around and slapped us over the head with "the second Lucius leaves the Revenge he goes through absolute trauma city and when he rejoins the crew, he is bitter and angry and hardened just like Izzy was in S1" and... like... I just want to lock them in a room and make them talk through their trauma ok

💕Happy late valentines/ace week!!! 💕
This piece is a celebration of animals that can reproduce asexually in various ways. Under the readmore you can find a key to the species included and some information about how they reproduce.
Tumblr media
These are very simplified definitions, if you're interested in this stuff definitely do more research and reading! The intricate details are really fascinating and specific to each animal- plants are even crazier!
Budding: a new individual develops then detaches from the parent when mature
Fragmentation: a new individual grows from a detached piece of the parent organism
Parthenogenesis: a new individual forms from an unfertilized egg
Facultative Parthenogenesis: the organism can reproduce sexually and/or asexually
Obligate Parthenogenesis: the organism can only reproduce through parthenogenesis
Gynogenesis: a form of obligate parthenogenesis that requires the presence of sperm without any actual genetic contribution

The JJK x TWST crossover that started living rent free in my head >:'D
Random Doodle Edition
Ahem, so, uhh, turns out the characters of Jujutsu Kaisen fit pretty well as Night Raven College students, temperament-wise, and that was all the excuse I needed. Yes the ages get funky but whatever. Happy high school AU except they still get cool powers and Trauma(tm). Just less than JJK canon so I count it as a win.
I also may or may not have written an entire oneshot (here on AO3) for some freshmen Satoru & Suguru bonding, featuring me still bullying Satoru over his funky eyes.
Image Text (and me rambling more) underneath the cut
-
Gojo Satoru (of the Jupiter Clan)
Ignihyde Housewarden Year: Junior Species: Sky Dragon (Fae) Club: Movie Analysis Club Unique Magic: Six Eyes—pretty much just like canon Six Eyes. They can see far and wide and out of normal sight, and they can see magic in a highly detailed manner. They are also powered by magic that just, never stops ever, so he can decrease or increase the power/range at will to a degree, but technically, cutting off magic from them altogether will blind him. Also he has an inherited magic that he by no means asked for, which is, sad drumroll, Gate of the Underworld. (There are no shrouds in this AU, just me finding ways to forever make Satoru instrumental to the well-being of the world to his own detriment. I have waaaaay more thoughts about the "Jupiter Clan of dragons" and what that actually entails, but they are still jumbled and shifting, so. Maybe later.)
-
Geto Suguru (of the Draconia Clan)
Diasomnia Housewarden Year: Junior Species: Night Dragon (Fae) Club: Equestrian Club Unique Magic: Magic-eater—can consume and nullify any spell and gain its base magic. With minimum side effects. Mostly. :)
-
Satoru and Suguru are their usual brand of special-grade menaces, being the only two adolescent dragon fae in the world, buttttt they still inevitably become besties. With Shoko too, of course, who has no fear and will mess with them as they see fit.
Suguru is essentially Malleus in this AU, though in Suguru-fashion, he's way more stubborn when it comes to trying to catch up. (Translating him being new to sorcery to being new to technology was surprisingly low-hanging fruit.) Meanwhile I borrowed the Jupiter name/legacy because it was fitting and made the Gojo Clan into a long-lived dynasty of antisocial dragons who fist-fight and deal with Phantoms and recently accidentally became a tech empire, which is pretty close to the Sorcerer Family vibe a la TWST, if I say so myself.
There's definitely a lot of backstory I have in mind for the two of them. Neither of them beat teen parenthood (they are currently Malleus-aged, so 178 years old, but that's still teenagehood for a dragon/fae) and acquired children through various means, much to the consternation of their elders/court. I might develop/write more solid ideas later, but Suguru has a reverse characterization moment when he finds two starved/beaten human children (the twins) and begins his journey of losing all intrinsic racism via love, and Satoru still somehow gets his shit wrecked by Toji (probably a heist gone violent or something) and then finds out he had abandoned children: human Tsumiki and half-fae Megumi.
-
Nobara Orientation Comic:
Nobara: Obviously, I'm going to get ~Pomefiore~ because I'm elegant and graceful. (And a badass queen, of course)
Mirror: The nature of your soul is... Savanaclaw
Nobara, getting dragged away from the Mirror by Maki: HEY WAIT A MINUTE! STOP MESSING WITH ME YOU DIRTY SMUGED HUNK OF JUNK AND I'LL SHOW YOU WHAT I THINK OF—
(Nobara gets her reverse-Epel moment, but she adapts quickly. Especially because she still comes to have mad respect for Maki.)
-
Ieri Shoko
Ignihyde Vice-Housewarden Year: Junior Species: Merfolk (Nurse Shark) Club: Science Club Unique Magic: Reverse—rewinds a target to its previous state within twenty four hours. The longer within the range, the harder/more magic it will take, especially for larger targets, so realistically her range is less. (For example, if someone cracked a piece of glass 24 hours ago, Shoko could restore it, but a day-old wound on a living being would be much harder.)
Making Shoko a mermaid was a joke to myself at first but then I liked it and it spiraled and now Nurse Shark Shoko is unironically one of my favorite things that I have drawn. The joke was right there too, but it's mostly fun to me because nurse sharks are docile and apathetic creatures, for the large part (they are still sharks lol), and I think match her temperament well.
Also when Satoru pestered the previous housewarden enough times to accidentally gain the title for himself, he made Shoko his vice (mostly because he trusted her) to make sure he never had to do the paperwork and the boring parts. She makes him do it anyway. To the dorm, she is less of a vice and more of a "dragon wrangler," which is still extremely appreciated.
-
Zen'in Maki
Savanaclaw Housewarden Year: Sophomore Species: Human Club: Track & Field Unique Magic: N/A—Maki doesn't actually have magic of her own, but she is unnaturally resistant to most magic. She can, however, use magic/cast spells through a magic-capable familiar.
She befriended a phoenix when she was younger, having survived an encounter with a wild youth. (idk what I want the details to be but I think it would be cool if she had some related burns to it, with the idea that these creatures are rare and volatile and hard for normal humans to handle without high magic resistance.) His name is Torch because I don't think Maki would put that much thought into a name, so long as its not completely stupid sounding. I almost named the phoenix Jogo but I refrained for my own sanity.
-
Inumaki Toge
Savanaclaw Year: Sophomore Species: Human Club: Board Game Club Unique Magic: Reality Speak—pretty much just how Cursed Speech works but with a world-friendly name. Also it can apply to inanimate objects as well. The power and scope of the command is proportional to the magic required.
Toge gets an overall nicer time in this AU because he doesn't have cursed speech 24/7 and therefore can speak normally. Though the idea of him being able to affect people/bend reality with his words does freak people out. I imagine he had a rough childhood nonetheless, because why not, leading him to be less verbal than he would have been otherwise.
-
Okkotsu Yuuta
Diasomnia Year: Sophomore Species: Human Club: Board Game Club Unique Magic: Wraith Pact-maker—he can enhance/bolster a ghost's magic/presence through making a link with himself. It has to be mutual, and it can last for any duration of time, although actively using the link does require magic. The ghost in question gains magic and grounding from Yuuta, and Yuuta can use the ghost's magic, including their UM, if applicable. He can have multiple links, but the first and main recipient of this magic is his childhood friend Rika.
Between her longlasting connection with Yuuta and her brutal death, she is a more wraith-like and powerful ghost. Her unique magic was to copy other people's UMs, which Yuuta can use through her in short bursts.
-
I didn't have space nor solid ideas for unique magics for the Hasaba twins and the Fushiguros, so I didn't do full bios for them. Later, perhaps. All of the girls are sophomores and Megumi is a freshman. Tsumiki and Nanako are sharing their social brain cell and trading stories of stupid things their dragon dads/older brothers/untitled guardians have done, while Megumi is helping budding-gamer Mimiko learn Pokemon strats. I love the idea of them all being friends, maybe after minimal difficulty in the girls' first year, likely on account of the twins being a little Sebek-shaped, in terms of wanting to be The Best Guards for Suguru, etc etc.
-
I technically have way more ideas for other characters and other dorms, but, I will end this here, for now. I am trying to reign myself in lmao.

Ok life cycle of a jelly mer is a GO. I’ll stick it under the cut in case anyone doesn’t want to see the lil development/newborn stuff
BUT before that since I know at least a few people are going to ask; yes, you can hold tiny baby medusa Neil, it can’t even sting you yet. Just a lil tingle
(Shout out to @the-tortoise-lady for the idea of baby Neil with no common sense or self awareness being very certain it both can and will eat that thing it found wading in the water near the beach (fisherman Andrew))
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So normal jellyfish polyps grow into what looks like little stacked saucers or plates and when one breaks off it grows into the actual medusa we all know. So like. I’m just imagining the upper body/human part of the mer grows inside more like two cups stacked together, and there’s only one per polyp (i don’t even know if regular polyps have multiple discs break off tbh).
But according to some v quick research and not being able to find specifically Sea Nettle reproductive cycle, I am declaring their polyps the average size of Small (about an inch/3cm or something close) and their baby medusae have A LOT of growing to do :D

Oh Lily in the Tumbrl what's your wisdom?
Hmmmm
Despite what the media (and 20 year olds on Youtube may tell you), Gen Z and future generations are no less smart than any other generation. They are smart and kind and lovely.
Let them love cringy-silly things like the Emoji Movie, or The Little Mermaid Scuttlebutt song, or Coco Melon. No matter what, they will grow up to be normal people, I promise. ❤️

Published 9th December 2024, Grier explains why Sharks couldn't refuse Avs' trade for Blackwood - by Sheng Peng (link)
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — For Mike Grier, this was one of the toughest trades of his short tenure as Sharks general manager.
On Monday afternoon, the Sharks announced that they traded goalie Mackenzie Blackwood and winger Givani Smith, along with a 2027 fifth-round draft pick, to the Colorado Avalanche for young winger Nikolai Kovalenko, goalie Alexandar Georgiev, a 2025 conditional fifth-round draft pick (can go up to a fourth if specific conditions are met), and a 2026 second-round draft pick.
“This one's tough because Blacky and I go back to the New Jersey days together, been more than a hockey player. I love the kid,” Grier told San Jose Hockey Now in an exclusive interview.
Grier was a Devils assistant coach before landing the Sharks job in the summer of 2022. The next summer, he acquired Blackwood from New Jersey for a sixth-round draft pick.
Grier spoke at length with SJHN about the trade after informing Blackwood, who turned 28 on Monday. Blackwood participated in Sharks practice earlier in the day, before the team departed for Raleigh.
“When someone calls you with an offer you feel like you can't refuse, and it's going to help continue to build this and set you up for the future, you have to kind of take it,” Grier said.
Grier shared how much the Sharks like Kovalenko, how preliminary chats with Blackwood’s agent about an extension for the pending UFA goalie might have contributed to this trade, what he’s hoping for from Georgiev and more.
Mike Grier’s opening statement:
"I've had a couple of these [trades] that have been tough. The [Tomas] Hertl one was tough. This one's tough because Blacky and I go back to the New Jersey days together, been more than a hockey player. I love the kid. He's a great kid. I'm happy that he's kind of taken this opportunity and he's kind of ran with it.
"It'll be tough for our group. Our group really likes the kid and enjoys playing in front of him.
"It's kind of still in the stages of where we are. We look back historically on returns for goalies and in season. There's only two guys that have ever gotten a second-round pick, and both of them were coming off Vezina seasons, I believe, in Fleury and Robin Lehner. It was a return we thought we couldn't pass up.
"It's probably a little earlier than I would have envisioned doing it. But the return, it's a good return of two draft picks as we continue to build.
"We really like the Kovalenko kid. We had talks about him with Colorado last year. He's going to come in and play for us right away. Give us something a little bit different than what we have, he's a competitive, north-south player. He's someone we're hoping we can grow with.
"So it's a tough day for me. I'm sure it's a tough day for the group, coaches, everyone. Blacky has meant a lot to us.
"But as well as you've seen these last couple games, where as much as things are better and we're improving, I think you guys all see how far we really are away from what the championship standard is in this league, and that's what we're trying to get to. It's my job to look at the present but keep an eye on the future as well. We got to keep building it.
"I wish Blacky nothing but the best. It's a good team, good situation. You're going to have a chance to win, which I think will be important for his career going forward, not only in the NHL but for Team Canada and things like that. In my view, he's probably outplayed the goalies that made that 4 Nations [Faceoff] team. But one thing he's probably missing on his resume is playing important games and pressure situations. This is something for him, I think that will help him.
"If this was two years from now, would probably be a different story. He'd be not someone to be looking to move on from, but the fact that he's a UFA, and to his credit, he probably outplayed his way out of here too, for what he's gonna earn. Speaking with his agent and everything, what he's going to be looking for, and what he's rightfully earned as a UFA to make. I hope he gets what he's looking for.
"I think he kind of played his way out of probably the ballpark figure of what we were looking for, especially with Askarov coming up as well."
Grier, on preliminary chats with Blackwood’s representation about an extension:
"We had a conversation about, just in general, what he'd be looking for. And like I said, he probably played his way out of what we would be looking for, especially, he's going to want some term. He hasn't had some term, and he's going to want some money. It's his first chance to make money. And every player, if they get to that point where they can be unrestricted, that's up to them and it's more power to them. They should try and earn as much money as they can.
"He's earned this. He's played really well for us for two years. Hopefully goes there and plays really well. Does well when the summer comes."
Grier, on potentially keeping both top prospect Yaroslav Askarov and Blackwood:
"There was definitely a possibility here of having a competition with him and Asky and kind of a 1A-1B type of thing.
"But like I said, my job is to look down the road too, and how much money do you want in the net? If one guy happens to beat out the other.
"Owe him a lot. He's done a lot for our group, and not easy circumstances for a goalie.
Grier, on Nikolai Kovalenko:
"When you watch him, the competitiveness, the inside game he has, and it's come to the forefront these last couple games, right? They're "big boy" games, you got to play inside, you got to win pucks. Those teams [Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning] showed what it takes to do it. And we're not quite there yet. I think he has the ability to do that.
"When you see him, he's built like a refrigerator, so he gets to the net, gets around the net, and wins battles. We have to keep adding that to our group.
"He can play left or right [wing]. A lot of those guys grow up [in Russia] playing on their off-side. From talking to our scouts and the guys in Colorado, I think he's comfortable on either wing."
Grier, on acquiring Georgiev:
"It just gives us a little, maybe a little bit more time for Asky to play down there and keep building on what he's doing down there. For Georgie, I had him in New York. He's a playoff-tested guy. He's won a lot of games in this league.
"For him, it's an opportunity to maybe, he's playing better now, but maybe get his game back to where he wants it in a less pressure-filled environment. We'll kind of see what happens during the next couple months after that.
Grier, on how losing Blackwood affects the Sharks' locker room:
"It's gonna be difficult for them, and I understand it. It's the bad part of the business.
In an ideal world, it would have happened later in the season. But that's not the reality of sports, right? They're in a situation there where they're battling for the playoffs and they needed something and they were willing to kind of ante up for what we were looking for. By no means were we looking to move Blacky. But when someone calls you with an offer you feel like you can't refuse, and it's going to help continue to build this and set you up for the future, you have to kind of take it, even if maybe the timing is not ideal.
Grier, on seeing Kovalenko as a playoff-caliber middle-six winger soon:
"That's the hope. I think he can play with all different types of players. He can do some of the dirty work with our top guys or play more in a checking role. He's pretty versatile."

My piece for the first days of Funguary (Celestial, Mycena Subcyanocephala) and Fishuary (Shark)!
The shark I chose was the Blacktip Reef Shark 'cause they're super cute, and I wanted to give it "biblically accurate angel" vibes for 'celestial'. It ended up less 'mushroom' than intended, but hopefully the inspiration is still clear when you see what the actual fungus looks like!
