Guys! Yesterday I had a book-shaped piece of mail, and inside of it was my copy of Children and Childhoods in L.M. Montgomery: Continuing Conversations being returned, from another very dear user here! I bring this up only because some-months-ago I promised to copy out a particular article from this book, for yet another user here, who was interested! Interested because itâs on the the subject of a Fan Favourite thing... fan fiction. And better still because some of our (basically famous) mutuals here are mentioned by name! If youâve ever wondered if the Montgomery scholarship is reading your fan fiction... the answer is yes, they are! They totally are. More than that, they also have some thoughts to share⌠as well as recommendations of their faves too! This article even covers the F/F and M/M fan fiction presented by fans in LMMâs universe, and Iâm personally super excited to be able to begin reading these works, as soon as I can find them all. Iâve done my best to link what I could immediately find, but some of the mentioned stories were unavailable... potentially due to changes in usernames? (That said... if anyone knows of the works indicated here, that I havenât provided a link for, please do share!)  This article, by the way, was written recently... in 2020! Itâs very current, and it covers a few stories that were still being actively updated during the pandemic. The focus of this article is less so on canon (or really just the Anne/Gilbert pairing), though, and seems to prefer demonstrating the versatility of mixing relationships (Anne and Emily, for one!) and the wider more general universe-building aspects (the entanglements of future generations/Anneâs grandchildren) that fans have been expounding on for nothing less than decades.Â
Okay, here we go! xx
Continuing Stories: L.M. Montgomery and Fanfiction in the Digital Era by Balaka Basu
Fanfiction â the recreational (re)writing of texts â is a literary genre of rapidly growing significance. Abigail Derecho in her brief history of fanfiction identifies it as âa genre that has a long history of appealing to women and minorities, minorities, individuals on the cultural margins who used archontic writing as a means to express not only their narrative creativity, but their criticisms of social and political inequities as well.â
Insightfully defined by Francesca Coppa and Mary Ellen Curtin as âspeculative fiction about character,â fanfiction can be even more precisely understood as fantasies about the diegetic positioning of characters in the context of various settings, communities, relationships both textual and paratextual, and eventually all manner of cultural mythologies.
Kristina Busse and Karen Hellekson describe the production of fanfiction as âpart collaboration and part response to not only the source text, but also the cultural context within and outside the fannish community in which it is produced.â
They point out that the shift in the method of dissemination of fanfiction from newsletters and zines to internet archives means that âever-younger fans who previously would not have had access to the fannish culture except through their parents can now enter the fan space effortlessly; financial resources have become less of a concern because access to a computer is the only prerequisite; and national boundaries and time zones have ceased to limit fannish interaction.â
The nature of fanfiction allows participants to cross-generational and socio-economic boundaries in an ongoing exchange of responses to a source text with which they share a fascination, developing new texts that in turn elicit their own responses. While the creation of fanfiction is evidence of an affective, loving, communal relationship with the source text, this genre of writing is still dismissed in many quarters as overly emotional, purely erotic, and even perverse, a type of amateur and immature engagement with popular texts that produces writing necessarily divorced from literary significance. Produced in staggeringly vast quantities by subcultures with complex vocabularies and traditions that can intimidate the casual reader, fanfiction is perceived by many to be more of a cultural practice than a literary genre, variously denigrated for its pornographic potential and its lack of originality. However, close examination reveals that fan writers are able to create a critical dialogue with the originating author in acts of communal storytelling that incorporate allusions and reference points to which other dedicated fan readers and writers may respond.
In this chapter, after examining how L.M. Montgomery and her writer heroine Emily themselves engage in practices now associated with fanfiction, I survey four forms of fanfiction that remove Montgomeryâs novels from her seemingly idyllic and timeless island settings, contextualizing her characters and plots within history and other genres: the sequel set during the Second World War, the modern AU (alternate universe), the gap-filler, and the slash fic, all of which allow the young readers who grow up with her novels to engage in dialogue with the stories they love, a type of literary conversation that Montgomery herself models within her texts. Emilyâs reading, which is active rather than passive, resembles twenty-first-century fansâ ownership of the texts they love, provoking creative responses. For instance, after reading works by Lord Tennyson, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and Matthew Arnold, Emily writes, âTeddy lent me 3 books of poetry. One of them was Tennyson and I have learned The Bugle Song off by heart so I will always have it. One was Mrs. Browning. She is lovely. I would like to meet her. I suppose I will when I die but that may be a long time away. The other was just one poem called Sohrab and Rustum. After I went to bed I cried over it. Aunt Elizabeth said âwhat are you sniffling about?â I wasnât sniffling â I was weeping sore ⌠I couldnât go to sleep until I had thought out a different end for it â a happy one.â
The reactions Emily catalogues are those of the fan; they are viscerally felt in the body and attempt to dissolve the boundary between author and reader, producer and consumer. She inscribes Tennyson within her heart in order to possess the poem she loves; she creates a relationship between Barrett Browning and herself; and, most significantly, she interjects her own desired happy ending into Arnoldâs tragic narrative, a corrective desire that is at the core of many works of fanfiction. Emilyâs diaries and her story reflect Montgomeryâs own experiences from childhood to adulthood as reader, writer, and reader-turned-writer discussed in the introduction to this volume. Depicting Emily as a voracious reader and a life-writer like herself, Montgomery places the child Emilyâs voice in conversation with that of the narrator through Emilyâs letters to her dead father in Emily of New Moon and through her diary entries in Emily Climbs and Emilyâs Quest, creating a form of joint authorship that is referenced explicitly in âSalad Days,â the second chapter of Emily Climbs: âbook is not going to be wholly, or even mainly, made up of extracts from Emilyâs diary; but, by way of linking up matters unimportant enough for a chapter in themselves, and yet necessary for a proper understanding of her personality and environment, I am going to include some more of them. Besides, when one has material ready to hand, why not use it?â
The narratorâs willingness to use the âmaterialâ that is âready to handâ reflects Montgomeryâs and Emilyâs practices, and also validates other writersâ use of the material Montgomery places at their disposal. As with many fans, Emilyâs reading frequently makes itself felt within her writing.
Like Montgomery, Emily learns her trade through mimicry, from her first poem in blank verse inspired by James Thomsonâs Seasons to her unwitting imitation of Kipling that is pointed out by her teacher, Mr Carpenter, in his review of her work. Like Sara Stanley of The Story Girl, whose compelling and fascinating stories are rarely if ever original, Emily is a fan of the oral traditions of her community, incorporating and building upon them in her own writing, transforming and recreating, for instance, the story of âThe Woman Who Spanked the Kingâ in Emily Climbs.
The retelling and versioning that Emily practises signal her immense admiration for the source texts she adapts, just as the creation of fanfiction does for Montgomeryâs readership and fans. The possibilities inherent in versioning and adaptation are illustrated in Emilyâs Quest. When Montgomery depicts Emily undertaking the reworking of someone elseâs narrative, she is adapting an episode from her own experience while working for The Echo in Halifax, which she records in her journal. Montgomery, like Emily, was asked to create an ending for a serialized story, âA Royal Betrothal,â after compositors had misplaced the original text.
Like Emily, she claims that her âknowledge of royal love affairs [was] limited,â and that she was unaccustomed âto write with flippant levity of kings and queens.â Nevertheless, Montgomery manages to create a conclusion that passes muster, since âas yet nobody has guessed where the âseamâ comes in.â She is, however, curious about the original authorâs reaction to her unauthorized adaptation, and while she never discovers this in real life, she does imagine it in her fiction when she introduces Mark Greaves, who is horrified by Emilyâs new ending for the story but enchanted by its author. Neither Montgomery nor Emily engages in this sort of writing from a place of fandom; they have no previous attachment to âA Royal Betrothal,â and both are writing professionally. Nevertheless, the ability to solve the puzzle of the story and the weaving of their work into an already extant text are the very project of fanfiction: ludic narrative composition that recalls the way children play make-believe with the narratives they love, reworking and extending them. It is telling that Montgomery uses the metaphor of the âseamâ to describe this particular craft. Jane Dawkins, writing about her fanfiction, which is inspired by Jane Austen, describes her fan novel Letters from Pemberley as âan old-fashioned patchwork quilt, where in place of the scraps of fabric reminding one of the favorite frocks or shirts whence they came, there is a line or a phrase or a sentence from one of [the original] books or letters stitched alongside the lesser scraps of my own manufacture.â
Montgomeryâs final book, framed by the two world wars, is just such a patchwork sequel, albeit providing only brief glimpses of the characters that readers met as children and who have now grown older. When a version of the book was published in 1974 as The Road to Yesterday, these glimpses, lacking the interstitial materials, became even briefer, mirroring the more forced insertion of beloved characters that the two earlier collections, Chronicles of Avonlea and Further Chronicles of Avonlea, display. Only two of Anneâs grandchildren â Gilbert Ford and Walter Blythe â are obliquely referred to, in the story âA Commonplace Woman,â where an unpleasant young doctor reflects on both of them as potential rivals for the affection of a beautiful girl he himself hopes to pursue.
However, the full novel, The Blythes Are Quoted, published in 2009 and comprised of short stories about the people in Glen St Mary and over the harbour, is interspersed with poetry by both a young Walter and an adult Anne. The poems are cut with tiny slices of dialogue that suggest the continuing lives of fansâ favourite characters and how they might have developed. In ââDragged at Anneâs Chariot Wheelsâ: L.M. Montgomery and the Sequels to Anne of Green Gables,â Carole Gerson notes the mixture of feelings from pleasure to frustration that Montgomery records in her journals as she prepares to write her first sequel.
While Montgomery wrote the first installments of her various series out of inspiration, she was certainly aware of what her market desired from subsequent installments. She often regretted the necessity of marrying off her characters, but was aware that her fans demanded this conventional outcome for the characters they had come to love; these traditionally romantic endings, when not offered by Montgomery herself at the instigation of her publishers, are regularly deployed by contemporary fanfiction authors building on the source texts.
Indeed, long before the original structure of The Blythes Are Quoted was revealed to readers in Benjamin Lefebvreâs afterword, fanfiction writers were spinning off lengthy narratives that included a third generation of young Blythes, Fords, and Merediths dealing with the onslaught of the Second World War. While earlier installments in the Anne series â such as Anne of Green Gables and Anneâs House of Dreams â depict the deaths of Matthew, Anne and Gilbertâs first daughter (Joyce), and Captain Jim, Walterâs death in Rilla of Ingleside is somehow more striking. Unlike Matthew and Captain Jim, he has not yet had time to grow old; unlike Joyce, readers have had opportunities to get to know him as a child in Rainbow Valley and as he grows into young adulthood in Rilla of Ingleside. His death is unnatural and, therefore, all the more horrifying. These two aspects of Rilla of Ingleside â the evocation of history by a nostalgic fictional world that is still tied to real time and the use of high drama, tragedy, and romance â provide fanfiction authors with a model they can use to appeal to the emotions of those readers who are immersed in the next generation of Montgomery characters.
The Second World War, then, provides an entry point into the series for fanfiction authors, who can deploy real history coupled with beloved characters to create a tale that feels absolutely authentic. One example of this is a short story, âThe Pen and the Sword,â written in 2007 by MarnaNightingale. Here, mimicking the style of Dorothy L. Sayersâs The Wimsey Papers (a series of Spectator articles published between 1939 and 1940, which interestingly also continue the story of First World Warâera characters during the Second World War), MarnaNightingale employs epistolary excerpts and newspaper articles to tell the story of a family going through the horrors of war for a second time. Grounding her fragmented story â like The Blythes Are Quoted, a mixture of genres â in the accounts of novelist Mollie Panter-Downes (1939) and war correspondents Ernie Pyle (1940) and Ross Munro of the Canadian Press (1941), whose articles are attributed to Kenneth Ford, she offers a story that, like Rilla of Ingleside, is anchored to the historical moment, while also nostalgically focusing on the character development that comes from Gilbert Fordâs death, Rillaâs and Faithâs reactions to the war, and the lives of their children. Here war also serves as an opportunity for new experiences, particularly for women and children: Rilla takes a factory job as a machinist, liking it better than working in Carter Flaggâs store; one of Anneâs grandchildren, Susan, plans to be a doctor; and Faith, who worked as a Voluntary Aid Detachment nurse in the First World War, mentions how she can sympathize. As well, the daily tidbits that flavour the pages of Rilla of Ingleside are there: one article, attributed to Anne, includes the recipe for Susan Bakerâs war bread, reminding readers of the problems of wartime rationing, even in the Americas. Real life events â like the Canadian forces trying (and failing) to make a beachhead at Dieppe â arouse the passions of the reader. Unlike Austen â who also famously wrote of three or four families in a country town, but kept the Napoleonic wars firmly in the shadows â Montgomery brings the passions and high drama of the world stage into the sleepy villages of Prince Edward Island, which inspire fanfiction spinoffs.
The long novel Cecilia of Red Apple Farm, by a fan author who posts under the pseudonym ruby gillis, also directly reworks passages and scenes from the whole range of Anne books, set in the late-nineteenth century, to The Blythes Are Quoted, set in the early years of the Second World War, to highlight the similarity between her new generation of characters and their ancestors. Cecilia is the daughter of Una Meredith and Shirley Blythe (characters often married off in fanfiction). Like MarnaNightingale, ruby gillis provides period flavouring in the styles of dresses and behaviour and in references to 1940s popular films and songs. Simultaneously, this setting offers new opportunities to her female character: Cecilia wants to be a doctor, and rather than staying in Canada, she joins up to be a nurse in England. She has a series of romances â one with Sid Gardiner (before he marries May Binnie), and one with her cousin Blythe Meredith, who is this generationâs poet â before finally ending up with Marshall Douglas (the son of Mary Vance). Just as Anne initially refuses Gilbert Blythe in favour of Roy Gardnerâs resemblance to her ideal man in Anne of the Island, ruby gillisâs Cecilia is fooled by the allure of Sid and Blythe as Roy Gardnerâlike romantic heroes into believing that she does not truly love her fun, practical, âGilbert-esqueâ friend. Published in 2004, Cecilia of Red Apple Farm further illustrates the opportunities presented by reusing and reworking a body of texts through its incorporation of Montgomeryâs poem âI Wish Youâ as the work of Blythe Meredith. Montgomery includes this poem and attributes it to Anne in The Blythes Are Quoted, although ruby gillis could not have known this when writing. The repetition of names and circumstances might seem derivative, but for readers who have read and reread the original books so many times, the extension of the story world is prized, even if â perhaps even because of â its callbacks to the original text. Due to the tendency of fans to fixate on âthe good bitsâ in a reread, these parts can be taken for the whole.
Austen fanfiction demonstrates this aptly. Indeed, Helen Fieldingâs second Bridget Jones novel, Bridget Jones and the Edge of Reason (1999), illustrates just such a reading of Pride and Prejudice: she shows Bridget, a fan, watching the scene from the 1995 mini-series in which Darcy, dripping in a wet see-through shirt, exits the lake, and then rewinding and rewatching the scene multiple times. How many times might a similar fan reread Walterâs letter from Courcelette? This repeated reviewing of selected portions can replace the amplitude of the original novel. With this delimited focus, narrative is no longer seen as a progression, but as a single moment of pleasure, sustained as long as possible. Reading the Second World War as a repetitive sequel to the First World War further highlights this possibility.
Even Montgomery seems to do so, as demonstrated in The Blythes Are Quoted, with its new generation of characters confusingly named after the old: Walter, Jem, Rilla, Di, Anne, and Gilbert. A variation on Marah Gubarâs kinship model, this kind of continuation highlights the blurred boundaries between child and adult characters who are literally related to one another and whose adventures mimic one another.
In a third example of fanfiction set during the Second World War, Weeping May Tarry, a long novel by ElouiseBates, Meggie, the heroine, is Shirleyâs daughter (and also, surprisingly, Paul Irvingâs granddaughter). In this story, which like Cecilia of Red Apple Farm is an installment of a longer series, Meggie is sent off to a conservatory of music to study singing, aptly combining the traditions of the nostalgic boarding-school novel with âGirlâs Ownâ wartime fiction. Following the tradition of Magic for Marigold, which explicitly suggests in its second chapter that the Murrays of Blair Water and the Lesleys of Cloud of Spruce exist in the same universe, @e-louise-bates (like many other fanfiction authors, including ruby gillis) suggests that all of Montgomeryâs characters exist in a single universe: Meggie partners briefly with the grandson of Sara Stanley (The Story Girl and The Golden Road) and is close friends with Jane Stuart (Jane of Lantern Hill).
Going even further, @e-louise-bates introduces the grandchildren of the What Katy Did series as friends for Meggie and includes Betsy from Dorothy Canfield Fisherâs Understood Betsy as Bruce Meredithâs wife, creating a world where all the characters of early-twentieth-century girlsâ fiction seem to have truly lived, where their descendants must cope with victory gardens and dances with soldiers at the Exhibition Grounds, and where kisses are much more commonplace than they once were.
These particular continuers of Montgomery are also desirous of membership in the community of her fans, seeing their literary endeavours as productive of approval from a fellow readership. Likewise, the novels are notable for their sociality â they seem to offer the reader not only a fantasy friendship with the characters themselves but also the very real society of fellow readers of the works. Thus, these fan authors attempt to diversify their stories so that they represent contemporary beliefs regarding multiculturalism; ruby gillis, for instance, introduces into the family by way of marriage a French girl who has had to flee the Nazis due to being Jewish, a situation Montgomery and her contemporaries might have had some difficulty accepting, considering early-twentieth-century attitudes toward interreligious marriage and Montgomeryâs othering of the German-Jewish peddler who sells Anne green hair dye.
The Second World War thus offers writers of Montgomery fanfiction the loom on which to weave new, more diverse stories, even as The Blythes Are Quoted, which also traces the charactersâ reactions to this new war, demonstrates how these readers-turned-writers followed Montgomeryâs own trajectory, not knowing that they were doing so. On the subject of fanfiction, young-adult author Patricia C. Wrede writes: âThe thing that fascinates me about fanfiction, though, is the way that it models the decision tree that writers go through (whether consciously or unconsciously) to get to their final product. For those of us who do this part mostly unconsciously, it can be interesting and instructing to see the multitude of alternate paths that a story could have taken, all laid out more-or-less neatly in different authorsâ fanfics [⌠taking a slightly different fork in the road] resulting in the plot veering in a completely new direction. Friends become enemies; enemies become friends; goals and objectives and results shift and change.â Within these pieces of fanfiction, then, fan writers are able to follow these decision trees with subsequent generations of characters as well.
Another avenue of access occurs when fan authors transpose historical narratives into the contemporary moment. Perhaps the best-known example of this modern alternate universe [AU] conversion is the television program Sherlock, which takes Arthur Conan Doyleâs Victorian detective into the twenty-first century. While new cultural contexts appear, the essence of character is meant to be retained. Just as Sherlock uses text messages and blogs to substitute for telegraphs and handwritten journals, fans of Montgomery reimagine the relationships between her characters as if they were taking place online.
For instance, âWork in Progressâ (2012) by verity postulates a friendship between Montgomeryâs most famous heroines, Anne and Emily. In this piece of fanfiction, Emily circumvents Aunt Elizabethâs injunction against fiction during her time at Shrewsbury High by becoming a blogger who is restricted to the âtruth.â The storyâs online summary, a part of which reads âAnne rolls her eyes. âIs your aunt really going to know if you cheat on your nonfiction with some hot prose on the side?ââ shows how the story preserves the character qualities that Montgomery laid out, complete with references to the Murray pride and Anneâs orphanhood. Mr Carpenterâs admonitions are spelled out at the beginning of the story:
âEmily Byrd Starr has a sticky note on her desktop. It reads:
ITALICS
CAPITALS
!!!!!
âjustâ
âreallyâ
CTRL+F!
It is almost like having Mr Carpenter in the room with her.â
Verity creates humour through the juxtaposition of contemporary social media and allusions to Montgomeryâs source text. Another story by verity detailing Rillaâs romance with Ken Ford and her friendship with Una Meredith, âRilla of Toronto,â takes place mainly through instant messages. In this story, Rilla reflects on her life from eighteen to twenty-five, tracing a continuum from her child self to her new adulthood, underscored by verityâs translation of Montgomeryâs work into contemporary millennial language.
A third type of fanfiction narrative, the gap-filler, focuses on and expands the implications of the source texts. Moira Walley-Beckettâs Netflix/CBC series Anne with an âE,â as Laura Robinson shows in chapter 12 of this volume, is somewhat fanfictional in and of itself: as Robinson points out, the show fills gaps by bringing to the fore the darker currents that have always been beneath the seemingly untroubled waters of Anne of Green Gables, including Anneâs potential post-traumatic stress disorder from the disturbing life she led before coming to Green Gables. This kind of versioning and adaptation tacitly permits fan authors to feel that their versions are just as valid as those produced by professionals. Gap-fillers frequently expand on romantic pairings and in fandom are often referred to by portmanteaux of charactersâ names that perpetuate some inside joke or work as puns. âShirbertâ â a moniker for Anne and Gilbert â is the latter, and demonstrates how fans posting on sites like Archive of Our Own (Ao3), Fanfiction.net, and Wattpad (this last generally populated by younger fans) develop their own language to identify their stories within the community for which they write.
One such story, âYou caught me staring, but I caught you staring back,â by Anuka, clearly inspired more by the television series than the novels, begins with an authorâs note that reads, âI decided to write some fluff for these two, because I need more Shirbert moments, and season 2 is so far away. I added gifs to make it more vivid.â Here, the romance between Anne and Gilbert as depicted by Montgomery and Walley-Beckett is not sufficient for the reader-turned-writer. Anuka wants the gaps in the narrative to be more fully explored than they are on either page or screen and to be made more âvividâ by the inclusion of images that help make the story come alive.
Similarly, âRilla Blytheâs Wedding: A Not Entirely Comprehensive Accountâ by Scylla also fills a gap: Rilla and Kenâs wedding day, a scene that Montgomery leaves to the readerâs imagination at the end of Rilla of Ingleside. Modelled upon other accounts of weddings within Montgomeryâs fiction, the story also suggests that accounts of Walterâs death have been gravely exaggerated, as he makes a stunning appearance at his sisterâs wedding. In order to align her work with Montgomeryâs novel, Scylla ensures that Little Dog Mondayâs awareness of Walterâs death remains, but makes it only a technicality, writing, âHis heart had stopped for a full ten seconds â long enough for his Captain to feel for his empty pulse and for Dog Monday to be jolted with the fullness of his death. Little dogs, after all, can only have tender dogsâ hearts. Grief to Dog Monday was an all-consuming thing, and when Walterâs heart began to beat once more, he was deaf to its spark of joy.â After meeting with his eldest sister, Joyce, in heaven â which is, as he had always hoped, Rainbow Valley, Walter is returned to life so that he may write of peace as well as war (as he did when he was a boy), marry Una, and repair the broken hearts of readers who did not want to lose him.
While heterosexual pairings are the most prevalent in Montgomery fandom, there is room for queer imaginings as well.
This very popular genre of fanfiction, known as âslash,â is generally defined as stories that centre on samesex romances between characters, particularly between men. Montgomery slash fiction usually stars Walter Blythe.
One slash story, âbut i donât know who you areâ by @freyafrida, imagines a bisexual Walter. Told in an enduringly popular sub-genre of fanfiction often referred to as Five Things Plus One (which involves a series of thematically linked but not necessarily chronological scenes), the story is summarized by @freyafrida as âFive people Walter thought he wanted, and one person he didnât notice until it was too late.â
This last person is original to Montgomeryâs text: Una, whose apparently unreturned attraction to Walter is woven through Rilla of Ingleside. The other five potential partners are all alluded to as Walterâs close friends, beginning in childhood with Alice Parker from Anne of Ingleside and Pat Brewster from The Blythes Are Quoted and then carrying on through adolescence and young adulthood with Faith Meredith, Ken Ford, and finally Paul Irving from Anne of Avonlea. While his feelings for Faith and Ken are clearly unrequited, Alice, Pat, and Paul all express their own desire for Walter. The inclusion of the famous poet and Walterâs âmodelâ uncle, Paul Irving, in particular, particular, illustrates how traits of sensitivity and aesthetic appreciation that challenge traditional ideas about masculinity are frequently interpreted as queer by fan readers and writers.
In another slash fiction, cero_ateâs âThe Moving Finger Writes, and Having Writ Moves On,â Walter discovers his homosexuality while fighting in Europe:
He wrote half truths and lies once more, when he wrote his Rilla that he could not form poems of the depths of the war. For who could write his sister of the phallic love he had found? He had found his reason in a tow-headed American boy. He meant so much more to Walter than mere friendship could explain. He wanted to write, as sweethearts write, of the tempest of joy in the darkest night. But how would they understand? How would they even try to understand he sought not the Dark Lady of Shakespeare but the youth, fair and Wilde? When he was presented with Unaâs faithful heart, he spurned it. When his tow-headed darling presented his own, Walter took it, greedy for him. His grecian style love, the boy whoâs [sic] eyes danced, even in the darkest of days. He would do anything to keep him safe. But he could not present him to his family, for their scorn or pity. War had broken him, but made him as well.
While male/male pairings are generally the most popular stories in fandoms, Montgomeryâs novels, peopled as they are by communities of girls and women, require that readers who want to queer the text must explore what is called femslash (that is, slash fiction featuring two female characters).
Such relationships have been explored within the academic setting. For instance, Laura Robinson remarks in âBosom Friends: Lesbian Desire and the Anne Books,â that the relationship between Anne and Diana uses âthe language that readers associate with adult romantic love rather than girlhood affections,â even as it is expressed through the heterosexual paradigm of marriage.
One fanfiction author, ArcticLava21, makes it clear that such fan written stories are not speculation but instead address key issues of representation. The authorâs note to ArcticLava21âs short Anne/Diana story, âNature,â reads, âHello everybody! Hope your [sic] having a wonderful day. Before anyone yells at me for âsexualizing platonic friendshipsâ please note that this is for all those queer kids who grew up pretending. Pretending that he ended up with him instead of her, or desperately wanted representation. Are we good? <3 Enjoy yourselves lovely people.â The intended audience of the story, âqueer kids who grew up,â again establishes the transgenerational kinship between Montgomeryâs child and adult fans.
All fan fiction, shared on the Internet, exist in dialogue not just with Montgomeryâs fiction but with the author herself, and between the fans who read the novels as children and adolescents and the adults that these readers become.
Whether fan writers extend the narrative or fill gaps, transpose chronology or to queer the text, these pieces of fanfiction allow fans not only to insert themselves into the narrative, but also simultaneously to revivify the original novels, published a century ago. In performing interventions to the text, Montgomeryâs young fans grow up to reply to the discussions that she began long ago in the pages of her journals and stories, ensuring that all three â author, reader, and text â are continually reborn into a conversation that will never end.

Only Temporary: Sebastian Tate
Hello. I was completely blown away by the positive response I got on the first piece of Jaimeâs story (title under construction). Thank you to everyone who had a kind word to say about it! You made me really happy I made the mildly frightening choice to post.
In the interest of acclimating to the no-rules, freedom-to-post-out-of-order structure of this community, I wanted to introduce a new piece of the puzzle this time, with a new character that will come into play later.
Also, this piece goes into a little bit of the details, but for frame of reference on the BBU-adjacent thing: this story takes place in a not-so-distant future of the BBU, where WRU has undergone some changes. I look forward to exploring this world building more as I go.
Anyway, Iâm rambling again. Thanks for reading. Here it is:
WARNINGS: General BBU warnings, talk of institutionalized slavery, classism, and general terribleness of large corporations. Referenced past homophobia and rough parental relationships, briefly implied/referenced non-con.
When Sebastian reflects on the day he graduated from med school, a sort of emptiness is the memory that first bobs to the surface. Among the cheers and camera flashes in the crowd, white coats and proud smiles, what Sebastian recalls most vividly from that day is looking out into the sea of parents and families and people there to support their loved ones on one of the biggest days of their lives, and not seeing a single person that had come for him.
What should have been one of the happiest moments of his life had been quickly overshadowed by the sinking feeling that none of it mattered as much as it would have if he had someone to share it with. Like there was something so fundamentally wrong with his life, that even something as objectively good and right and decent as becoming a doctor could be dulled over into a feeling of nothingness.
Perhaps, he thinks in hindsight, that moment had been foreshadowing for the following months ahead of him.
Watching rejection after rejection pour in from his top residency programs had felt like nothing short of his own personalized nightmare. He had spent several nights in a row on the phone with Alex, his undergrad roommate and only friend, clamoring back from the edge of many a panic attack, spiraling into all-out existential dread about the future and the past and what all of it meant for him if he couldnât land an internship, let alone a real job out of school. To his credit, Alex never gave up hope in his friend. Or at least, he did a decent job hiding it if he did. Which was probably exactly what Sebastian needed to get through that particularly dark time in his life, and a good reminder of what a solid friend he had. Even if it was a party of two.
Unfortunately, Sebastian did not have the same faith in himself.
He was able to keep up some facade of optimism as his top five were picked off one by one. Telling himself, despite his devastation, that they were a pretty far reach, anyway. Even with good academic standing, it was famously no walk in the park to land yourself at John Hopkins or Mayo as a first-year. He even maintained a brave face as his first few safety programs reached capacity and moved forward without his name on the roster.
It wasnât until he received his final rejection letter from some internal medicine place in Bumfuck, Idaho that he felt himself slip into dangerous territory. Sebastian knew himself well enough to know his own depressive patterns by then, and he knew it was only exponential decay from there.
Rock bottom came, as it did, in the wee hours of the night, after a full bottle of wine. Alone in his small apartment, surrounded by half-packed boxes with no destination, Sebastian found himself sprawled out on the floor with his laptop hot against his thighs. He couldnât have explained why he opted for a privacy browser, but something about it allowed him to justify the words that he typed into the search bar.
It was a new low, and one he had sworn to himself he would never stoop to. Yet there he was.
He gave himself a moment to reconsider, to back out of what was undoubtedly a morally-gray train wreck waiting to happen as his thumb hovered over the enter key. And then the alcohol decided to override his moral compass.
Facility Care is the open secret of the medical profession. It comes with its fair share of stigma, and rightfully so, but it is notoriously easy to break into and pays a decent wage.
There are two types of people who end up stooping to that kind of employment. More often than not, it consists of doctors and nurses who had their licenses revoked or suspended somewhere along the line and needed a way back in. As far as Sebastian understood, they arenât terribly ridgid about the particulars of each circumstance. After all, in the eyes of the law, the patients they would be treating are a price tag away from being entirely expendable.
The other percentage of Facility Care workers, and the reason Sebastian found himself staring at his too-bright computer screen with a sinking feeling of dread that night, are young medical graduates who find themselves in a tough spot. It isnât difficult to spell out the logic behind that one when you open the WRU CAREERS tab on the home page and see the bright white words printed across the top of the screen:
LOAN FORGIVENESS.
It is shamelessly predatory and aggressively capitalistic, but Sebastian supposes that particular exploitation is pretty far down on the list of transgressions for an institution of legalized slavery. A few broke and hopeless medical students were hardly going to keep the Powers That Be up at night when they were able to rest easy under the weight of hundreds of thousands of stolen lives.
The whole thing is part of the massive PR overhaul the company did a few years back. In a world that was slowly inching toward civil activism and with the accessibility of platforms like social media to hold them accountable, WRU had to adapt to survive. Adaptation, in this case, took the form of changing the barest of minimums in order to keep themselves above board â to the public eye, anyway. Anyone who dares to take a closer look at the policy changes can see that itâs bullshit.
Changing ownership conditions to a rent-by-contract basis isnât the humanitarian move they try to paint it as. In the end, it probably just equals out to more money in the companyâs pocket when they can get more return on their âinvestments,â and a larger chance of exploitation for the people being moved around.
Getting rid of the Romantic division is an entirely meaningless gesture when they are still loaning out human beings with no legal rights and the inability to say âno.â
And offering an open job market with good wages and healthcare options to lower class individuals is a pretty convenient way to mute the backlash.
Essentially, you can tie a system of slavery and abuse up in a bow and make it pretty on the outside, but at the end of the day, itâs still fucking slavery.
Not that he has any room to criticize now. Now that heâs one of them.
In the end, Seb tries to justify his decision a few different ways. He is, after all, more or less a young man alone in the world. The odds are stacked against him and have been for a while. With only his own two legs to stand on, the only force stronger than his internal ambition is his instinct for survival, and heâs been running on those fumes for longer than he can count.
He had lasted less than two months under his parentsâ roof after he came out of the closet at eighteen. It wasnât exactly a surprise for anyone involved; Sebastianâs parents had known about (and subsequently bottled) his⌠urges⌠since he was in high school. Probably before that, if he is being honest with himself. And Sebastian, for his part, had spent the better part of his teenage years mentally preparing for the inevitable. He can recall long, late nights he had spent crying into his pillow and the perfectly-scripted âcoming outâ speeches he recited to his mirror when he was one-hundred percent sure his parents were asleep.
Of course, none of the preparation had been anywhere near adequate when he actually found himself wilting beneath the heat of his fatherâs glare, the weight of his motherâs grief.
But. He had recovered. That is the point he tries to remember when the memories sting fresh beneath his skin, even all these years later. He has more-than proven himself to be a survivor. He has worked harder than anyone he knows for every scholarship, every grant, every dollar to put himself through school. Sacrificed nights out and real relationships for night shifts at shitty diners and long weekends cramming for exams. It hadnât been easy, but he considers it the price he had to pay for his independence. For freedom, to live the life as the person he is meant to be, despite his unfortunate odds. He spent years telling himself it would be worth it. That one day, his hard work would pay off.
He canât stop now.
Sebastian doesnât have the luxury of taking time off to reroute when his navigation has gone amiss. He is walking the precarious line of rapidly accruing interest and student loans and a dwindling savings account, and there is no safety net below him.
Beggars canât be choosers, and as it turns out, beggars sometimes have to compromise their moral integrity in order to survive.
Itâs only temporary.
That is the mantra that gets him through the (half-drunken) application process and the (disturbingly lax) interview process. It is a job. One job. In the medical field, though the details are up for debate, and it is real-life money for rent and food and a savings that will hopefully be sizable enough to get him where he really wanted to be. Which is⌠really, anywhere else.
He can do âtemporary.â And perhaps, some misguided part of him thinks he can do some genuine good from the inside, too. âBe the change you want to seeâ and all that.
It is a far jump from the floor of his apartment, sloshed and exhausted and desperate, to the cold, sharp reality of walking into his place of employment on his first day of work. Ironically, it feels a lot like an echo of the emptiness from his graduation day.
âSterileâ doesnât quite cover it. âSterileâ is the expectation of any well-respected medical establishment, but the inside of the facility walls has been wiped clean of far more than bacteria and germs. It is completely devoid of humanity. The long corridors that connect the medical wing to the general ward are windowless and dimly lit by flickering fluorescent panels that had make his head pound for the entirety of his first week.
He is given an office, though it is a term he, himself, might use loosely, as it is more akin to what was probably a storage closet before the old prison had been converted into the stateâs training headquarters. It leaves him just enough space for a small desk and two chairs. On his first day, he asks if it is okay to bring in some personal items to spruce the place up. The older, balding doctor who had been assigned to show him around merely shrugs, and Sebastian decides to take that as a yes.
The small, pink-framed photo of a six-year-old Sebastian Tate in his grandfatherâs white coat and an old-school stethoscope around his neck is hardly enough to make the place cozy from the corner of his desk, but itâs a good enough reminder of why he has to make this work.
âItâs only temporary.â
âBe the change you want to see.â
He will do his best.

How many works do you have on AO3?
142!
Whatâs your total AO3 word count?
473,453... hopefully Iâm on track to hit 500,000 by the end of the year! like obvs itâs not really about the word count & when Iâm writing Iâm not thinking that I have to make things longer (tho I think my fics have been getting naturally longer lately? I think Iâm spending more time on descriptions and scene-setting. which I like but which def hasnât been a conscious choice) BUT I am using word count goals to stave off the temptation to count kudos and notes & then get anxious about that. sir that is my emotional support ao3 word count.
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
the only fandom Iâve properly posted stuff for is dr who... if you go back far enough in my main blog there might be like, 2 sh*rlock fics on my main blog. wouldnât recommend it tho I was still in high school when I wrote them GFDJHS
I did write for both sh*rlock and torchwood tho. also warrior cats when I was quite a bit younger. & teeechnically my first fanfic was for the saddle club. but I was like, 3. so I didnât know what a fanfic was. I was just writing a âbookâ about the horses.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
(excluding timetracks because itâs not a fic to me, itâs a collection, I only put it in one âficâ so I wouldnât have to come up with individual titles for everything in it gjdhfks)
- stones
- tenth time lucky
- coincidences
- lucky guess
- amber
which is. an interesting selection gdfjkg
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I try to! I donât get that many so itâs doable. I do need to get better at answering them quickly though jkdf I am very small and a little bit shy and people are very nice
Whatâs the fic youâve written with the angstiest ending?
oo idk maybe longing for a time that never came? (no idea why I called it that ghdfk. itâs kind of pretentious for something that never had any rhyme or reason to it). because like. are they going to survive? idk!!!
(would also like to plug this art @ettelwenailinon made for that fic because I love it and also canât believe itâs four years old??? hello????)
more recently I think itâs the kirkyard (which is a title I actually like!! I really like this fic actually) because two canât do any more than get jamie out of the church but jamie doesnât KNOW and he doesnât understand why two doesnât even stop to talk to him & itâs painful imo
Do you write crossovers? If so whatâs the craziest one youâve written?
not really! Iâve nothing against them, I just donât tend to write them.
I wouldnât really class my daemon au as a crossover because like. itâs not really set in the hdm universe, just uses the concept of daemons.
on the other hand I feel like the only crossover I have /is/ pretty niche and a bit wild. lifeboat is a crossover with ark: survival evolved which is very dear to my heart & in my head sits quite nicely with the dr who universe. that fic was SO self-indulgent to write but I loved it. plus the idea of victoriaâs dad having THREE scientist friends who went mad in pursuit of godhood is so incredibly funny to me that I forget it isnât canon
(also the character being referenced in that fic is now voiced by david tennant in-game/will be in the animated series so. gift of prophecy. dfjkhsglfk)
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
nope! like I said everyone has been very nice. the only hate has been from myself gdfhlk
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
donât read it & donât write it. just not my thing!
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not as far as I know o:
Have you ever had a fic translated?
yes!
Whatâs your all time favorite ship?
I mean itâs two/jamie. Iâve been here for like 6 years. still digging my hole.
Whatâs a WIP that you want to finish but donât think you ever will?
talked about it in more detail in this ask but in terms of two-era stuff Iâve only got one thatâs definitely never being finished and another thatâs not got a great chance of being finished. & stuff Iâve written for other fandoms is just. look itâs gone gdjksdfdg. I donât care about my dead sh*rlock wips it isnât 2014 anymore
What are your writing strengths?
I honestly have no idea??? like Iâm not being modest or anything, I genuinely donât know. I think I can write some funny dialogue sometimes.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Iâd really like to be better at plotting out longer fics tbh. having coherent plots and carrying through themes and details. people who can introduce an apparently inconsequential detail early in a fic and have it become relevant later in a way that makes you gasp are like, gods to me
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Iâm too nervous about getting stuff wrong so I wouldnât do it unless I felt like I had enough of a grasp of the language to know what I was doing. but I am at a stage where I feel confident having some simple gĂ idhlig in my fics!! which is nice. Iâd really like to be able to write more, and also to be able to write jamieâs dialogue with like. a sense of english as his second language/gĂ idhlig as his first? like in the occasional turn of phrase or way of putting something. outside of fic Iâm super interested in what someone from that period who had gĂ idhlig as their first language and english as their second language would have sounded like and how they would have spoken.
my absolute dream would be to be able to translate all my fics completely into gĂ idhlig, but Iâm probably years off from that, if Iâll ever be able to do it. I would really love to be able to write fiction in it, that would be a mark of proficiency in the language for me.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
kind of answered above!
Whatâs your favorite fic that youâve written?
oougkj idk!! I have so many now and honestly I forget about a lot of them.
the selkie au always has a special place in my heart, and I do love doing more historical-based ones, so Iâll say the kirkyard because I was already talking about it. if I can be a know-it-all while writing something Iâm usually happy gjhklkh.
tagging @galacticlamps and anyone else who wants to do it!!
#personal#putting this under a read more because it got kinda long and i don't want to clutter up people's dashes with my rambling haha#this was fun tho!

Is there any symbolism behind the bird scientific names tags representing Silent Hill characters? Like, did you pick them for any particular reasons? đ
Oh man, well, I guess I never went into detail about them anywhere. They definitely were picked for a reason but the reason is related to a currently-unwritten fanfic and literally who knows when thatâs going to happen (Gravity needs to get finished first and who knows when thatâs going to happen :â]), so I might as well try and do it now.
When I was in college I started coming up with concepts and symbolism for a fic project and because Iâm obsessed with birds all of it involved birds and the title of the fic was appropriately âFour and Twenty Blackbirdsâ, with the âfourâ specifically referring to Harry, James, Heather, and Henry (because they were the main characters). Each of them had a different âblackbirdâ species representing them.Â
So when I decided to make separate aesthetic/inspo tags for individual characters (I already have a #silent feels tag for general SH inspiration, but I am crazy and it was NOT CONVOLUTED ENOUGH FOR ME), I decided to use the scientific bird names since it was conveniently already cemented in my brain. THIS IS GOING TO BE VERY, VERY LONG SO IâM PUTTING IT UNDER A READMORE. Click for pretentious Silent Hill fan analysis.
HARRY MASON | CORVUS BRACHYRYNCHOS (American Crow)
Harry Mason is the ââgenericââ all-American protagonist who rises to a heroic status pretty much out of sheer determination and a commitment to his loved one. Heâs not an unusual person, in fact heâs deceptively normal-- so the American crow felt right for him since theyâre so common. You see them so often you donât even think about them, but theyâre smart, resourceful, and resilient survivors (something that especially comes into play with Harry post-SH1 when heâs eluding the Order). Harry is underestimated because of his normalcy but heâs capable of incredible things.
Also crows (and other corvids) have deep, almost humanlike family bonds between parents and offspring. Theyâll maintain relationships even after the babies grow up and become fully self-sufficient, with the adult children regularly visiting their parents and socializing or helping to take care of younger siblings.
In the context of the fic Harryâs symbolic/prophetic connection to such a common âpestâ species is sort of a derogatory assignment on the part of the Order/the town, as heâs seen as a heretic troublemaker (CULTS HATE HIM!! LOCAL MAN STEALS MESSIAH AND THWARTS FATE WITH ONE COOL TRICK!)
JAMES SUNDERLAND | CORVUS CORAX (Common Raven)
Ravens are like the most symbolic corvid, every gothic poet/novelist/artist and their grandma used them to represent death, grief and malaise, and Jamesâs story is nothing if not filled with all three of those things. I mean, come on: Â Â âBy that Heaven that bends above usâby that God we both adoreâ Â Â Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn, Â Â It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenoreâ Clasp a rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore.â Â Â Â Â Â Â Quoth the Raven, âNevermore.â -Edgar Allen Poe, u know where itâs from.
Also in college, I got very interested in the myth âRaven Steals the Sunâ, which has a number of different variations (itâs a story shared across multiple First Nations peoples of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska, thereâs no one clear origin-- you can read about a couple of versions here!) but most involve the titular Raven delivering the Sun to the world after stealing or freeing it from a dark place where it was kept. Depending on the version, Raven's motives can either be purely selfish or more benevolent, and sometimes starts the story as a pure white bird who is stained black with soot in the act of taking the Sun. The duality of Ravenâs intentions as well as the theme of light/warmth being hidden in darkness until itâs brought out felt fitting for a character whose motivations are complex and left a little ambiguous in canon (James grapples with whether his own act was purely selfish or one of love/mercy) AND someone who is naturally warm and caring but slipped behind a cold, dark wall of depression and self-isolation. The theme of being permanently marked/transformed by an act, whether for good or for bad, felt fitting too.
(Obligatory Disclaimer That My (Very White) Personal Interpretation Should Not Remotely Be Considered An Authentic Take On The Myth And Is Not Intended To Be Appropriation. For fic purposes the story would only have come up as an interesting symbolic parallel/running motif among many others, not a Literal Connection. James is a clueless white dude and Silent Hill doesnât even take place on the west coast.)
âBUT WAIT! Doesnât stealing the sun from a malevolent party and freeing it sound sort of like Harry rescuing Alessa/Cheryl/Heather??â Yes, this was going to be a source of in-character confusion and a surprise twist when it turns out they got their birds mixed up. Blah blah nothing is as it seems and destiny is mutable.
One time while I was walking on a foggy beach I got followed around by an enormous raven who was just sort of waddle-hopping after me looking forlorn and scruffy and the experience stuck with me and now all these years later my enormous galaxy brain is just like âThat was Big James Energyâ.
Wow that was long, Iâm sorry.
HENRY TOWNSHEND | CORVUS FRUGILEGUS (Rook)
The most obvious symbolism is probably the chess piece with the same name-- that felt fitting for Henry since heâs probably the protagonist who has to do the most strategizing. Between his limited inventory and his progressively-more-cursed apartment and escorting Eileen and his five billion trips across multiple fractured Otherworlds, my poor guy has a lot to mentally keep track of. In the fic, he was going to wind up being the one to keep track of all the weird complicated bullshit items and rituals they had to complete to get through the Otherworld.
The rook chess piece also resembles a castle, and unlike the other protagonists whose stories progress in a linear fashion, Henry operates from/returns to his home base shitty cursed apartment.
BUT ONTO THE BIRD the rook is a corvid like the crow and the raven, and shares their pest/death omen status in popular culture. Just appropriate for SH protags in general since they keep getting in the way of the cultâs business and also misfortune follows them.
In the SH3 Crematorium Puzzle (Iâll talk more about that in Heatherâs section), there is a poem:   "The black Rook is the praying sort   Who hears the gods in the skies   His whispered petitions go on without end   And glassy and dim are his eyes" Obviously this does NOT describe Henry as a person, but it IS eerily reminiscent of the title that was thrust upon him: Receiver. Maybe if Walterâs plans had succeeded, this is how Henry would have ended up.
There is also an old belief that if rooks abandon an established ârookeryâ (place where they regularly roost), itâs a sign of calamity to follow. If Henry the Certified Homebody (tm) bursts out of the apartment complex and goes staggering down the street, you should get out of that apartment complex.
HEATHER MASON | AGELAIUS PHOENICEUS (Red-Winged Blackbird)
Oh boy this oneâs probably the weirdest but here we go.
The first obvious thing is that unlike the other three, the red-winged blackbird is not actually a corvid (itâs from the Icteridae family, not the Corvidae family). In-universe, this was supposed to represent Heather being inherently different from the rest (like... she basically is an iteration of the Silent Hill deity), even if she seems to be a normal human. Harryâs act of stealing her from the Order and changing her appearance/name to hide her was going to be depicted as âdousing Her in black ink, but [the ink] not able to fully conceal Her radianceâ. The red and gold shoulders of the blackbird visually symbolize her âââtrue natureâââ peeking out.
I also associate her specifically with the MALE red-winged blackbird (the female looks completely different, hooray sexual dimorphism) because gender is a fuck and Heather understandably has some really intense and complicated issues with womanhood/femininity. One of my favorite aspects of her as a character is how she blurs the line between masculine and feminine, especially since sheâs been through so much... extremely gendered violence, to put it lightly. Heather Mason says FUCK YOUR GENDER BINARY.
As a fun side-note, Heather is also represented (or appears to be, ymmv) by a bird in canon! The SH3 Crematorium puzzle (on hard mode) features a series of poems each about birds, and each one represents a character if you squint. Heather seems to be referenced in this one:   "The Wren, with pure heart as yet unrefined   Makes us laugh with his feeble lip-smacking   But still we all know he shall never grow old   And he knows not how much he is lacking." Heatherâs role as a brash, foolhardy youth who talks tough to cope is pretty blatantly summed up in there, as is the fact that sheâs... functionally immortal and keeps fucking reincarnating. The wren, a plucky little bird, is perfect for her. The part of the main riddle that references the wren is also... ominously on the nose, given Heatherâs backstory:   "Burn the one who knows no death   Pure, adored by those above   No prayers within, just simple love.â
YET ANOTHER CREMATORIUM POEM could be construed as representing the townâs God (or the spiritual force of the land, w/e), damaged/corrupted/turned malevolent by All The Bullshit:   "The Kite, hot, crazy, and panting mad   Sweet shackles that tease and excite   Death itself would drive him wild   Red blood that turns milky white" Heather is a pure-hearted protagonist in one sense, but thereâs plenty of not-so-subtle hints to a bloodlust and desire for violence just waiting to break free (ESPECIALLY when Heather does certain things that could be considered taking on the role of God). So to me the Kite is what happens when Heather gets sick of being nice and decides to go apeshit.
âBUT WAIT what does this have to do with the red-winged blackbird?â The inherent trinity of Heatherâs character (Alessa/Cheryl/Heather, the Mother of God/Daughter of God/God Herself) deserves a bird trinity too. IâM GREEDY, I WANT *ALL* THE BIRD METAPHORS!
Red-winged blackbirds are bold little shits who will straight up harass birds of prey. Kind of like Heather does to God.
The fact that âphoeniceusâ was part of the scientific name was a VERY delightful coincidence-- but Iâm not complaining about how satisfying I found it that my Bird Choice (tm) inadvertently connects her to the concept of the phoenix, poster child of pyrogenesis.
That was even longer than Jamesâ, Iâm so sorry.
SO THATâS THE META BEHIND THOSE CHOICES FOR THE FOUR MAIN CHARACTERS. If youâre still interested after all that BS, I can write up another (probably much shorter) post for the other characters. Thanks for the ask!

Hi Nin! I know this might be weird of me to ask because you are an artist yourself, but I am rather new here and was wondering if you have any other artists you'd recommend? If not that is ok!
Hi there, not weird at all! I LOVE supporting fellow artists, I find their wonderful talent and dedication incredibly inspiring, seeing their beautiful works on my feed constantly reminds me to take a step back from my exhaustion and to simply remember why I love to draw to begin with: because itâs fun.
Iâm usually really picky about artists I follow and their style, but when I find the ones that I enjoy, I go ALL OUT with my support. So without further ado, the following artists listed are those I am not only in love with, but those who IÂ genuinely look up to.Â
So make sure you stop by their page to show them some love and appreciation for their hard work (because hard work extends beyond the individual pieces theyâve made, itâs also for the countless hours theyâve spent on practicing and perfecting their craft, constantly challenging themselves to learn new techniques). đ
đđźđđźÂ Ninâs Artist Recommendationđđźđđź
---------------------
@aku-jumbi - HQ!!, Various, You all had seen me share a BUNCH of their works on my blog, but itâs just because their art is so SOOOOOOOOO good. Your style leans toward photorealism, while still maintaining its painting-like quality, so if you had ever wondered how your favorite characters may look like irl, theyâve got you!!! Watching your speed painting is so fascinating, idk how you do it, but youâre always killing it every time (Like our process is so different, so it was really interesting to see how you approach your works you know?). This piece of Kei Tsukishima and Oikawa Tooru are two of my favorite works youâve done!
@achieve-the-sun - HQ!!, Various, Let me start off by saying that I love Morghyâs art so much, that they are the first and only person I had ever commissioned from so far. They drew Keishin and I sooo adorably, it brings me so much joy to look at it on the daily. Your style reminds me of freshly baked cookies, or the warmth of bakeries, I canât help but feel a sense of coziness whenever I look at your adorable artworks. This piece you did of Kageyama and Hinata was what had drawn me to you. Everything from your color choices, fluid gestures, and expressions are such a delight to look at!
@chaotickatts - HQ!! I am so in love with Katts, you all. I had never seen anyone draw like this, her style is really unique. I can go on forever about why I love your art, but one of the biggest things that drew me to your style is the way you draw bodies. I like the variation and realistic details you include, for instance, I absolutely adore the way you gave Sakusa more moles on his body, and the way you drew dad bod Osamu. Idk, I think thereâs so many different types of body shapes and details out there, and it brings me joy to see you being so inclusive of them in your art.
@namusw - Hunter x Hunter. Was drawn to their Hunter x Hunter works and I donât even watch/read that manga. Honestly, just check them out, I love everything about their works, they are also a killer at both traditional and digital styles. This piece of Hisoka, Illumi, and Chrollo was the one that made me fall in love.
@cranbearly - HQ!! I really adore the way they draw expressions and their coloring style (inspired me to attempt some flat coloring). This piece of Oikawa and Iwa made me follow them instantly. Expressions are so difficult to nail, and youâve done such an amazing job conveying every emotion the characters are feeling, Iâve learned so much just from looking at your works, so thank you for blessing us with your craft.
@a-zebra-was-here - HQ!! Their art has a very carefree type of vibe and their coloring style brings me so much joy. Iâve really enjoyed your drawings of the Miyasâ, this piece of the twin was what got me, and this other piece, the first image of young Miyasâ was so SO well done, I am in love with the way you colored that. đťÂ
@erionmakuo - Various, dude....I want to cry, I donât even know what to say, EVERY SINGLE PIECE of your artworks just BLOWS ME AWAY. The way you color your art is just so ethereal, the color schemes you had chosen, the way you mix the color of your lighting, textures, and everything in general, I can go on about this all day but just hop on to their blog and you will know exactly what I mean. I donât have a particular piece that drew me in because I was blessed by all your works at once.
@uranarino - HQ!!, Your artworks bring me so much joy. If I have to describe your style like an experience in life, I would say it reminds me of how itâs like to fall in love with someone for the first time, if that makes sense. That sudden overwhelming feeling you get when youâre doing the most mundane things with someone you care about, only for time to stop as you realize how in love you are with them? Yea, your art captures that really well. These two pieces of Kuroo returning home with his groceries and of him taking a day nap with his cats was what had drawn me to you.
@queenoftheantz - HQ!!, Various, Their style is really unique, it kind of reminds me of an adventurous graphic novel or something you would see on Cartoon Network (idk, I thought of Chowder, but please, I really mean it as a compliment, I just really love the fun cartoon style you have.) They also do some animations! I really love this piece of Kyotani you did, the landscape and colors look SOO GOOD!!
@noodlemanjpg - HQ!!, Various, love LOVE your style and the way you draw expressions. I also really love how you color, your works âappearâ effortless, but I know a lot of knowledge and precision is put into crafting it. This piece of Kuroo x Yaku being all cozy at the couch was what had drawn me to your blog, it makes me smile every time I look at it. Kurooâs smitten expression is just...ahsdl;adjs I canât help but smile with him.
@diabolism666 - HQ!!, câmon, you canât be in the HQ!! fandom without at least seeing one of their artworks. In fact, I had seen your art even before Iâve gotten into this show, and it was love at first sight, lemme tell ya. EVERY. SINGLE. THING. you had drawn are so good, it doesnât even matter if itâs a more simplistic drawing or elaborate one, I am just always staring at it in awe. Thank you for being so incredibly active about it too, idk how, but youâve produced so many amazing drawings and weâre just incredibly grateful for it. You draw some of best Tendou, Reon and Toshi out there. Your works have so much range, I really feel like you can draw ANYTHING hahaha.
@viriaâ - Various, Viria *sobs* your works are so good. The way you draw faces and affection just gives me butterflies. I donât even watch Fullmetal Alchemist, but this piece you did of Edward and Winry made me fall so deeply in love with your works. Your style has a certain softness to it, even when it is of an angry character, and I love it.
@nipuniâ - Various, another artist that I am incredibly nervous to tag because your works are just out of the world. You also seem so so nice and is always incredibly helpful whenever anyone sends you an ask. Just...I have the biggest crush on you and your works. EVERYTHING you had drawn is so stunning, and I mean it. The details, pose, composition, and coloring, it is just so perfect, I could pull up particular artworks, but I was really blessed by it all at once. If you are into fantasy-esque realistic looking portraits, check her out, she exudes so much knowledge and talent.
@hinamihere - HQ!!, Your artworks are soo stinkin adorable. Your color choices, expressions and the way you draw hair is just so cute, your art always bring the biggest smile to my face. This piece you did of Akaashi and Bokuto was what drew me to you, when I saw it, IÂ âawhhhâed so loudly, my hubby had to ask me whatâs up, and when I showed it to him, he had the same reaction, even if heâd never seen Haikyuu!!
@oxxuri - BNHA, so SO good, the way you color, light, and draw is so beautiful. Every single detail, down to every lashes and strands of hair is so beautiful. You draw some of the most attractive faces I had ever seen, these drawings of Aizawa and Midoriya brings me so SOOOO much joy, and I donât even know anything about BNHA.
@amezure - HQ!!, their comic strips always make my day, I was giving their blog a peep so I can pull up specific examples and my statement is instantly confirmed when I stumbled across their newest comic art of Kuroo and Bokuto and started laughing HAHA. đ Your self study sheets are incredibly informative and I find myself referencing them often, itâs so nice to see my favorite artists continue to polish their craft through endless amounts of studying, practice, and analysis. It serves as a constant reminder for myself to do the same. I love the way you draw people (check out this piece of Bokuto x Akaashi), but I ESPECIALLY love the way you draw animals. (Specifically anything that has to do with lil owl Bo and Akaashi đĽş)
@obobro - Avatar the Last Airbender, HQ!!, I am absolutely in love with the way you color and draw portraits. Your drawing and detailing has so much range; you have a series of hand drawings, and that alone already displays so SO much range. I was really drawn in by this drawing of Tsukki, Zuka + Azula, and of Sokka + Katara, you can really tell they were related and I love it so much. Your art has so much life to it, itâs truly fascinating.Â
---------------------
I have a couple more artists to recommend, so if youâd like a part 2 to this, please lmk.
But yes, I genuinely stand by my recommendations, these guys are so SO good at what they do and I am currently sweating because the thought of tagging all my artist crushes in one post is actually kinda scary lol.
Hope this helps! âď¸Â

Masterlist of Our Fics
Hey everyone, Liv here! So since a lot of our incorrect quotes on this blog come from or are inspired by our fanfics, and include our OCs from those fics, we thought it might be good to provide a masterlist of all of the stuff weâve written (both individually and together) along with a short description of each (+tws)
Katâs Fics:Â
The Noel/Lex series
Noel Michaels (no relation to Noel from Santa Claus is Going to High School) and her relationship with Lex Foster. Very cute would recommend 10/10 <3Â
The Place I Belong
An Emma/Becky Stardew Valley AU featuring lots of useless lesbian pining and Farmer!Emma, which is a really good concept if I do say so myself.
Sleigh Ride
Noelâs backstory and the fateful Christmas night that changed her life for goodÂ
TWs: domestic violence, drunk driving, alcohol abuse, description of a car crash
---
Livâs Fics:Â
We Survived the Crisis, Babe
A Black Friday rewrite in which Ethan survives the attack at the movie theatre with the help of a certain spider from outer space and tries his best to keep himself and Hannah alive.Â
TWs:Â descriptions of violence, what could be described as torture, kidnapping, as well as all the normal TWs for Black Friday
What Happens in Nightmare Time
The fic Iâm currently working on!! Also this has Witch in the Web spoilers!!Â
An AU where, instead of being thrown in jail for selling drugs, Lex and Ethan are trapped in Nightmare Time by the witch, and with the help of Duke Keane, Miss Holloway, and a mysterious little girl who lives in a void, Hannah has to try to save her family.Â
TWs: Kidnapping, descriptions of violence, Child abuse, descriptions of panic attacks + nightmaresÂ
Making Monsters of MenÂ
Elsabeth tries to calm her siblings during a storm by spinning tales of fighting off monsters outside, all while hiding the bruises from the one within the wallsÂ
TWs: Child abuseÂ
-----
Liv + Katâs collab fics:Â
And While Youâre Saving The World (multichapter)
A crossover fic of a lot of different starkid shows and Spies are Forever, in which they all live in Boston, and the villain is Wally the Green Monster: the Red Sox baseball mascot.Â
TWs: Kidnapping, descriptions of violence, descriptions of psychological torture, major character death, references to child abuseÂ
Not Alone at Hogwarts (multichapter)
Another one of our crossover fics, but this time make it Hogwarts!Â
Ever since Paul Matthews was attacked as a baby and his parents were murdered, he's sported an odd blue mark on his cheek. He hates that blue mark, he hates his foster father Stanley, and he hates his life. Until he gets his Hogwarts letter on his eleventh birthday, that is.
TWs: Child abuse, descriptions of character death, mentions of violence/injuryÂ
Mirror TalksÂ
A spinoff fic/oneshot compliant with Not Alone at HogwartsÂ
Tatiana Slokhnvo visits the Mirror of Erised to visit old friends and try to move on. She doesnât think she ever will.Â
TWs: Mentions of character death, grievingÂ
do you all see the memories?  (multichapter)
Noel Michaels, Elsabeth Pekkala and Lex Foster, along with their sisters, Hannah Foster and Lyanna Pekkala, escape the PEIP faciility they were taken to after the world ended and run into some old friends and family. The reunited group has to try to survive the harsh world that PEIP created, and avoid the ones that are trying to hunt them down. The caveat is that none of the girls taken to the facility remember anything at all. Â
TWs: mentions of torture, child abuse, character death, descriptions of violence, alcohol abuseÂ
A Tale of Two Kingdoms
A royalty AU where the prince and princess, Kris and Noel, fall in love with a handsome foreign prince and a pretty commoner from a vibrant farming town, respectively. Featuring possibly my favorite tag ever: homoerotic sword fightingÂ
Tws: Child Abuse, (eventual) Kidnapping
Saturday Night at Watcher World
When their parents and guardians bring them to Watcher World, Noel and her friends: Elsabeth, the Chastity twins (Grace and David), Lex, Ethan and Alice have to work together to try and survive the horrors of Watcher WorldÂ
TWs: Descriptions of violence, implied/referenced child abuse, major character death, kidnapping, eye horror (essentially any TW from Watcher World also applies here, plus these)Â
The Barnes-Foster-Houston Household and Found Family Series
A universe in which Black Friday doesnât happen, and Tom and Becky take in Lex, Ethan and Hannah, and of course Timâs around. These all take place in the same universe but way back when Kat and I didnât realize that co-creating a series was a thing we could do on AO3.Â
TWs: Child abuse/references to child abuse, a lot of discussion of Janeâs passing, implied/referenced PTSD
I Feel Safe Here With You
Noah Monroe doesnât particularly think his lifeguarding job will lead to falling in love, but Ophelia Matthews-Perkins has a tendency to disrupt peopleâs plans.Â
Essentially this is Linda Monroeâs son, Noah and Paul and Emmaâs daughter, Ophelia, falling in love.Â
TWs: brief mentions of child abuseÂ
I Know A Thousand Tales
This is essentially a âgreatest hitsâ of pieces of things weâve written that donât quite have full-blown fic potential (of which there are so, so many) but we wanted to have someplace for them to live anyway! This is honestly a really great way to get to know our ocs too because this does feature them a lot.Â
TWs are on the individual fics because theyâre all very wildly differentÂ

The Eras of Lana Del Rey: Lookbook no.9
Hi to anyone reading,
Hope youâre okay! AND that you didnât end up here because you searched the Lana Del Rey tag so you could see people ranting about her-youâre about to be very disappointed. Sorry. This is not about to be some Question for the Culture discourse because the world is bleak enough right now and the last thing we all need is to be reminded of that saga.Â
Being a Lana Del Rey fan is easy, they said. Sheâs not a controversial artist, they said. And yet 2020 had to do what it does best and fuck everything up.Â
Whether people like her or not, itâs made me so angry reading all the abuse sheâs been getting about her appearance for the last couple of weeks, because I really thought that if we could agree on anything it was that attacking individuals for the way they look because you dislike something theyâve done (with the exception of shit like racist tattoos and blackfishing) is, you know, awful and judgemental as fuck? Like you do realise when you treat the word fat as a pejorative that the fat people you donât have a problem with understood that you meant it as an insult too? I think what all those people tweeting about Lanaâs weight, and that includes some of her fans, are forgetting is that she was in her early 20s when she was thrust into the limelight. As much as thereâs this conspiracy that her dad bought her a career in the music industry, sheâd made the decision to go it alone and had lived in a trailer park as a struggling musician for years. On top of that, we have the unreleased tracks with lyrics seemingly referencing an eating disorder in her younger years. OF COURSE her body is going to look different. Why is it that we treat weight gain as an inherently bad thing without any insight into the other factors that constitute a personâs âhealthâ? Itâs fucking insane that so many feel they have the right to comment on otherâs bodies in the first place and it breaks my heart that she might be reading these comments. This wasnât intended to necessarily be a rant about how much I love this woman but all the shit Iâve read about her on the internet these past few months have pushed me to it. You'll respect your queen of alternative music or I shall stan twice as hard on your behalf. You can thank me later when you come to your senses xoxo
Iâd love to say it was intentional that I finally finished this post the week Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass was released but that would imply I have my shit way more together than I actually do. If Iâm being completely honest, Iâve only heard L.A Who am I to Love You so far 1). because I want to wait for the hard copy for the rest and that doesnât turn up til September and 2). because I do not have my shit together, lol. That being said, there is no doubt in my mind that I am going to love it-one thing I have always loved about Lanaâs lyrics is how well they paint a picture and this is something that poetry only more freely allows for the exploration of. That ability to create such a strong narrative voice and atmosphere is a talent that extends to her visuals and the production of her records too, and is something I really missed when it comes to the Norman Fucking Rockwell era. Iâm just going to say it: a strong aesthetic is to NFR as memorable songs are to Lust for Life. Lacking. Am I allowed to say that as a fan? The collaborations donât do it for me, okay, and as as NFR is concerned, aside from The Greatest/Fuck It I Love You video which went down the whole neon surfer girl route, itâs hard to identify a cohesive theme. Itâs understandable that at this point, she would want to just focus purely on the music, and it goes without saying that NFR will stand the test of time in that regard but I donât think we can deny that when people think of Lana in the future, itâs not gonna be a green windbreaker that comes into their heads.

And hereâs where this Filip Kozak illustration comes into it; after years of it sitting in my camera roll for years, it finally has a use. Thereâs really nothing better to illustrate how mundane life has become this year than the disproportionate level of excitement my photo-hoarding-self experienced realising it would fit perfectly into this post and is thus eligible for deletion. Up there with being able to fit a whole box of biscuits onto the shelf at work rather than having to individually take out as many as I can and then shove them on top of the existing box of biscuits one by one. Truly riveting content on this Tumblr page. Back to the point-by using this as my stimulus for the post rather than the Lana Del Rey albums as outfits tag that went round on Twitter, I can conveniently exclude NFR as an outfit inspiration category, and that saves me from having to buy a charity shop windbreaker with its price bumped up 150% by some upper middle class Depop e-girl or boy who uses the word peng as a descriptor like itâs a nervous tic. To make up for leaving out NFR, Iâve tried to branch out a bit and do the outfits not just based on the music videos or album covers but also from street style and stage looks and photoshoots from around the same period too. It was hard not to be influenced by the general âvibeâ and sound of the albums either when I was planning outfits, whether itâs the grand, orchestral instrumentals of Born to Die or the 70s psychedelic rock inspired riffs of Ultraviolence and hopefully thatâll show as well! Enjoy:D
Born to Die (Release Date: 27th January 2012)

Itâs been 8 years, and when you ask most people what they think of when they hear the name Lana Del Rey, theyâll probably dismiss her as the one who sings about being sad and doing coke and sleeping with older men. Thatâs the Born to Die impact. Say what you want but itâs one of only a handful of albums released by a female artist to have spent more than 300 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart and it really established the mythos of âLana Del Reyâ because before all this, before all the think pieces from other women claiming sheâd set feminism back hundreds of years with her music, before she ousted grayscale Effy Stonem as the queen of angsty teen Tumblr (which as you can probably guess was a subsection of the internet I was very much engulfed by, lmao), she was just Lizzie Grant, a relatively normal aspiring singer songwriter in her early twenties. But as Lana Del Rey, she was someone else-some beautiful, mystical being that personified the sentiment of being born in the wrong era. Whilst every other singerâs record labels seemed to be trying desperately to thrust them into the future and keep them on top of all the musical and stylistic trends, it was refreshing to hear someone whose music and visuals captured all the most glamorous elements of the past. Part Priscilla Presley/Jackie O reincarnation (the National Anthem video really illustrated how Lana is just as much a storyteller as she is a musician), part high level mobsterâs wayward wife à la Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface, she was the good girl by day and the bad girl by night, and I think thatâs a duality we can all relate to or would like to think weâre interesting enough to relate to deep down.
Her style from around this period was EVERYTHING. She had those grungy Tumblr girl elements, the camo jacket and the oversized pieces and the leather jackets, but she also heavily drew on the styles and silhouettes of the 50s and 60s with the beehives and the new look Dior inspired cinched waist dresses. Even now in 2020, I think this period is what most people would think if they were asked to describe Lanaâs style. I made sure I got the grungy pieces in there with the chunky boots and the vinyl and the oversized leather but the foundation of her looks back then were usually these daintier throwback pieces like the white silk dress and the corset and the mint fur trimmed coat (House of Sunnyâs Penny Pistachio coat).
Favourite lyrics from the album? âNow my life is sweet like cinnamon, like a fucking dream I'm living inâ from Radio. Nobody asked but Iâm gonna give it to you anyway.

Born to Die: The Paradise Edition (Release Date: 9th November 2012)

Lanaâs Paradise EP contains probably my absolute favourite song of herâs, Ride, and with that, the beautiful opening monologue that will stay in my mind forever. This era was of course ushered in by Tropico, the short film that included the premiere of the songs Bel Air, Body Electric and Gods and Monsters, which established the ethereal tone of this period-itâs in the name, after all. Both the album and the videos were other-worldly and leaned heavily on religious symbolism which Iâm sure pissed off many a middle-aged bible basher at the time. Most prominent in her lyrics were reflections on the freedom of the open road which corresponded with visuals of biker gangs and desert dwellers and modern interpretations of the Wild West, as was an attempt to capture the nature of the so-called âAmerican spiritâ which as Lana portrayed it shared more qualities with a kind of celestial, transient being than any kind of solid concept or identity. She played an emotionally detached stripper and a haunted saloon-style-bar singer (almost looking like a runaway bride) and Eve the âfirst womanâ all in the same album and honestly, if thatâs not iconic, I donât know what is. We saw SO many incredible red carpet looks in this period too which built upon this idea of her as the fallen angel tempted by original sin that Tropico established; I feel like this era was all about laying bare the soul of the character she played, this broken, delicate but ultimately liberated being that was so dangerous to the idea of the strong, stable modern feminist ideal. She went about it in COMPLETELY the wrong way in a post that betrayed the ignorance of the privilege she has as a white female performer, but I think this is what she was getting at in it and Ultraviolence only went on to bolster her critics.
In response to the criticism she still receives about the choice to wear a Native American war bonnet in her Ride music video, Iâd like to say that it really seems like sheâs learnt from that-actions speak louder than words and so though itâs not my place to say whether this makes up for that error, the work sheâs done with Native American reparations-focussed foundations since and the money sheâs donated to the cause says a lot about her intentions. Again, I want to stress that itâs not my place to say! But itâs a detail that is often overlooked so I thought Iâd mention it here.Â
âI was a singer, not a very popular one. I once had dreams of becoming a beautiful poet. But upon an unfortunate series of events saw those dreams dashed and divided like a million stars in the night sky, that I wished on over and over again, sparkling and broken. But I didnât really mind because I knew that it takes getting everything you ever wanted and then losing it to know what true freedom is.â

Ultraviolence (Release Date: 13th June 2014)

AH, Ultraviolence. My favourite of Lanaâs albums and imo, a masterpiece. ONE skip. ONE. Sorry Guns and Roses. I got stoned in my back garden and listened to this (for research purposes ofc, heh) and ended up deciding that this is what I want to listen to when I die (also whilst stoned). It sounds dramatic but listening to this album in that state of mind is such a heavenly experience that Iâd be too zen to notice myself slipping away into nothingness on the basis that if I didnât as long as I could stay in that bubble of awe, nothingness forever wouldnât be so scary after all. I know, I know, that sentence has big Jaden Smithâs old tweets energy. But if an album is what helps me get over an existential crisis, I beg you allow me the nonsensical ramblings about how I felt like I was ascending into the stars.
Though in terms of the lyrical content the public perception is probably correct, I think the reputation Ultraviolence has as Lanaâs darkest, most gothic album (which is something Iâve in incorporated into the outfits I put together) is mistaken; instrumentally and visually it drew more on 70s psychedelic rock and the bohemian counter culture of the period than anything, and her stage looks are a clear reflection of that, and also the outfits I was most excited to channel. It seems counter-intuitive to the moody atmosphere I associate the tracklist with but itâs my go-to summer album; itâs raw (probably her most stripped back work along with NFR, lots of the songs are barely edited) and itâs gloomy but letâs be real, hot as fuck-donât bother making a sex playlist, just put Ultraviolence on shuffle, and youâre good to go. This was the album where Lana debuted some of her most criticised lyrics and where the notion that she glamourises abuse comes from, one of the points she also seemed to be getting at in the Instagram post, but imo itâs fair to say that she sang truthfully about the initial allure of a dangerous relationship and the nature of the mindset that facilitates staying with somebody poisonous where you do feel like youâre nothing without them. Turning horrific experiences into romantic tragedies is how Lana has always made her music and yeah, out of context there are some fucked up lyrics on the album, but policing how a woman expresses her trauma and complaining that she glorifies weakness because she wrote honestly about the reality of a complicated partnership is hardly any more âfeministâ than the lyrics themselves. I can only guess that the reason Lana felt the need to bring up this criticism in 2020 is because these darker themes are going to be revisited in her upcoming album and that in spite of the issues with the way she expressed herself, this time critics will be more accepting of how she chooses to address these themes.Â
On a lighter note âyeah my boyfriend's pretty cool, but he's not as cool as meâ will always be a great line. Simple but effective. If my boyfriend ever is cooler than me itâll be doing Lana a disservice.

Honeymoon (Release Date: 18th September 2015)

Considering that a lot of other Lana fans are of the opinion that this is her best album, I find it weird that I really donât remember all that much about this period, other than High by the Beach being released and then hearing Salvatore and Freak for the first time. I guess because she didnât do a Honeymoon specific tour and didnât make that many public appearances in this period? It was definitely harder for me to find visual reference points beyond the HbtB music video and the cover art, so I mostly drew on the general vibe of the album, a cinematic accompaniment to a summer in Italy or the South of France, filled with exotic instrumentals and the sense of impending romantic doom that Lana does so well. I suppose if I associate the visuals of this era with anything itâs idyllic florals and warm tones, bygone country club pool days, a rich Americanâs vacation in Southern Europe, long walks on the beach (and as our Lord and Saviour Jujubee once said, big dicks and fried chicken). Apparently inspired by Lanaâs relationship with Francesco Carrozini, itâs a hazy story of some ultra-feminine, submissive archetype becoming unhealthily enchanted by a mysterious âforeign manâ whoâs ultimately not all that good for her, which as the story goes turned out to be quite prophetic. Going against the grain, itâs my least favourite of her albums after Lust for Life, but in spite of that, I will always remember how obsessed I was with the sax riffs (I think? I donât know my instruments all that well so forgive me, lol) on Freak and I definitely understand why itâs a firm favourite for so many.
âYou could be a bad motherfucker, but that donât make you a man.â was truly a cultural reset of a line.
-on an unrelated note, OMG, I never realised how I have my mouth open in literally every fucking photo I take, somebody tell me how to pose, please and thank you-

Lust for Life (Release Date:Â 21 July 2017)

Lust for Life is a controversial one. On the one hand, I appreciate that this album was the victory cry of a happier, more independent, politically-aware Lana in spite of it apparently being a far more optimistic sounding album than the one she wanted to release, but on the other there were way too many collaborations for me and this meant that the album lacked a sense of cohesion and the characteristic narrative thread that usually runs throughout her tracklist. Aside from Love, Cherry, Get Free and Tomorrow Never Came, most of the songs on the album arenât hugely memorable and itâs a crying shame that a collaboration with STEVIE FUCKING NICKS of all people left so much to be desired. Coming from two witchy icons, I expected something absolutely magical so maybe I was setting myself up for failure, but come on. We couldâve had a real anthem there.
Aesthetically speaking however, this is one of my favourite eras for Lana, which is unsurprising when you consider the tracklist contains references to both Woodstock and Coachella. Iâm not gonna lie, I think seeing Coachella fashion in my early teens was my style awakening-I remember seeing Vanessa Hudgensâ outfits and being like, wow, I want to be her (oh, what a fall from grace)-so the late 60s/early 70s flower power groupie style Lana adopted in this period really spoke to me. It was all long hair and dreamy pastels, and this era included some of the most head-to-toe coordinated looks weâve ever seen from her. Of course I couldnât completely abandon the grungy touches that I love, that I tend to associate with the early Lana street style days and the Paradise and Ultraviolence music videos rather than with this album, but Iâm never gonna pass up an opportunity to whack out a good floral two piece and putting together Lust for Life inspired looks is the perfect excuse to do that.

So, that marks the end of this post! If you made it to the end, thank you so much for reading! I have a Yesstyle lookbook and review to edit but now that Iâve finished that, Iâm trying to go down more of a style inspiration focussed  route with my lookbooks rather than just putting together outfits from clothes Iâve just bought (though I might still do one every so often to bring in a new season-letâs just ignore the fact that theyâre all blending into one bc climate change for now, one catastrophe at a time please universe). I find that if you have a specific idea in mind of what you want, itâs super easy to find something similar on Depop and Ebay and that way you avoid buying new things and also take old things off a personâs hands that might otherwise end up being thrown out by a charity shop and then dumped into a landfill from there. Something Iâd LOVE to do before this year is out is put together a lookbook based on the most stylish TV shows of the last decade, but that probably wonât be for a while-even so, if you have any recommendations of series to watch which could fit into this category, let me know!Â
To finish, I need to go a little bit off-topic so forgive me, but I truly donât know why this even needs to be said: WEAR A FUCKING MASK. IT IS NOT A POLITICAL ISSUE. IT IS A BASIC HYGIENIC PRACTICE THAT HELPS SPREAD THE STOP OF A HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS DISEASE! RUDIMENTAL SCIENCE! NOT A CHANCE TO PROVE HOWÂ âEDGYâ YOU ARE! SERIOUSLY, STOP MAKING A FUCKING PANDEMIC ABOUT YOURSELF! NOBODY ENJOYS WEARING THEM BUT THEY HELP PROTECT OTHERS! SO UNLESS YOU HAVE A VALID MEDICAL REASON NOT TO BE WEARING ONE, DONâT BE A SELFISH PRICK!Â
Sorry to sign off on a rant-y note with something that has nothing to do with Lana, lol, but all the stupidity has been grinding me gears lately and I had to let it out on behalf of all retail workers: if we can wear a mask for 9 hours at a time, YOU can tolerate the mild discomfort of wearing one for 10 minutes. I know this doesnât apply to the majority of people but thereâs always a couple of arseholes, isnât there!?
Stay safe,
Lauren x

                            NAV.
        GOOGLE DOC (RULES/ABOUT/VERSES).
                     PLOTTING FORM.                       HEADCANONS.                          WISHLIST.Â
Tumblr mobile friendly version of my rules under the read-more.
DISCLAIMER:
I do not claim to own or have created this character, though the headcanon posts you see here are of my own interpretation of this character and events. I am private and selective, meaning that I only write with mutuals (those who I follow and who follow me in return), and tend to watch who I follow back and/or write with for my own comfort. However, my askbox is open to everybody if you wish to talk to me or the character on this blog, but I may not answer everything put in there.
PASSWORDS:
Due to my social anxiety, I don't have a password in these rules, nor do I send them in. I read everybody's rules and pages before following and usually before interacting.
ACTIVITY:
This is my main blog, which means that I am on it most of the time. However, I do suffer from some mental disorders, namely anxiety, depression, and OCD. These tend to affect how I interact ooc and can make me overly distant sometimes, and it's usually nothing anybody has done to me but my own mind running off on it's own about things. So, I do apologize for that. I may be absent from blogs during bad periods or make a couple posts here and there that I always delete after an hour or two stating that I'm in a bad way. Everything will be tagged.
HIGH HONOR:Â
Please note that I base my characterization off my raw play of this game, in which Arthur is HIGH HONOR and you may see more of that toward the end of his main verse. However, I still play him as a morally grey individual, especially as heâs trying to find his own mind on things in a way, but ultimately he leans more toward honorable moral choices (or what are considered honorable for the life he leads). He will do both good and bad things. At his point in time, Iâm not exactly leaning towards adding a low honor verse, as his portrayal within the fandom has turned me off completely and after playing that route myself, I donât really see much reason to. However, that may change if I end up finding a way to put a spin to that.
BLOG & PERSONAL TRIGGERS:Â
Please note that I don't have many triggers myself outside of suicide and overly anxiety inducing content (jumpscares, purposely paranoia inducing posts, etc).Â
There are some themes that I would like to avoid writing about in detail or at all. Namely, I WILL NOT write out anything like incest (the John/Arthur ship tends to fall into this category for me, along with Arthur/Dutch and Arthur/Hosea, so I will say that it's a NOTP for me), abuse (outside of mentions in regards to backstory, all forms), pedophilia, and rape. Also, I should note on a personal side that pregnancy can make me a little uncomfortable due to some gender stuff with me. I don't mind mentioning it, nor do I mind parental relationships when it comes to Arthur and sometimes outright adopting children in certain verses, but threads and interactions solely based off pregnancy can make me uncomfortable. It's difficult to explain but I would like to avoid it. Really, when in doubt, just ask.
This blog does and may contain triggering material, due to the nature of this game and the character. The biggest ones that will be present here are violence, guns/shooting, crime, and illness. I should also note that, due to the fact that this game takes place in 1899, there may be some triggers related to the views of this time period. Arthur himself is rather progressive and doesn't hold those views himself, but that doesn't mean the people around him don't and may be referenced in threads. Everything will be tagged as I catch it and where needed.
SPOILERS:Â
This game has been out for at least a year now. I will not be tagging for spoilers anymore, so please follow or read at your own risk if you are working through the game for the first time.
WRITING, SPEED, and NSFW:
My general writing style is paragraph/paragraphs. I don't mind one-liners but I usually only reserve those for starters that Iâm writing and I tend to expand on the length of those as I go. I format my posts, mostly just some minimal spacing, small text (not sub), and all-caps words, bold, and italic usage. If this bothers anybody or makes it hard to read, please let me know and I can continue our thread in a non-formatted way. I also use icons, but I will follow my partner's lead on iconless rps. I can also be a little long-winded with my replies but you aren't obligated to match that. As long as I don't get like three sentences back to five paragraphs, we're all good.
I'm a slow rper. It may take me a day or two to get around to things, both asks, threads, and messages. I don't mind a nudge here and there but if it feels like you're pressuring me, I will warn you and block if it continues.
I'm 24, the muse is 36 in his main verse. We are both over the age in regards to nsfw. Smut is kind of rare for me and I don't do it often on Tumblr, however if we're in a ship and you want to write that over Discord, I may be open to it. That said, too, I will ONLY write nsfw with people and muses who are OVER 18. There is no exception to this. That noted, too, Arthur's in his 30's so a massive age gap may not appeal to him much either.
SHIPPING:Â
Iâm going to sound like a hardass but: I am a highly selective shipper on here, and the ships that do appear on this blog are ones I have had for quite some time. Everything of a romantic nature will need to be discussed with me and the chemistry has to be there for me to agree to shipping. Iâm not an insta-shipper, nor am I accepting to pre-established romantic relationships outside of those in canon. They will need to be discussed with me like every other ship and may be subject to me disagreeing to do it. Otherwise, I am multi-ship, despite being highly selective, and Iâm fine with discussing them but please be aware of this.
FOLLOWING, DRAMA, AND DUPLICATES:Â
I will usually give someone a day or two of active posting after following before I unfollow if I don't receive one back. I don't mean anything personal by that, I'm simply making sure I don't accidentally like or send anything in if we aren't mutuals. That said, too, I am selective with who I do follow. If you're a sideblog and you don't have that blog easily accessible on your main blog or you don't message me about it, I'm likely going to miss it. I don't follow rp blogs that are run more like personals if only to keep my dash slower. Also, generally, if our writing styles don't mesh, you're rude to me, or you post nasty things, I will likely unfollow/block/or not follow back.
I donât interact with or reblog callout posts. I don't have great patience with ooc drama and will likely unfollow if there is a lot of it being posted by you.
Following and being followed by duplicates (other Arthurs) is completely fine with me. However, with the mentality sometimes, I won't go out of my way to follow first if only to avoid making anybody uncomfortable by me doing so. I'm also non-exclusive for general interactions, so multiples of the same character I am fine with. I may take mains, however, which means these blogs get priority over plots and focus in headcanons, etc.
CROSSOVERS AND ORIGINAL CHARACTERS:Â
I'm crossover friendly so long as I know the character/fandom. That said, if I just can't get into it or make it fit, I won't force it.
I love original characters and you guys are cool with me, however I do need to see at least some stats or a verse we can interact in before I follow/follow back. I'm also fine with your OC knowing Arthur in their backstory but, again, romantic stuff needs to be talked over with me first.
STARTER CALLS:Â
I've found that I don't enjoy doing starter calls. I may do them here and there when the urge strikes, but the best way to interact with me is to message me or continuing memes sent or sent to me. I'm also more than happy to like other starter calls, too, if you want to throw them my way.
QUESTIONS?:Â
No. Go away. >:(
Iâm kidding. Just drop me a message, Iâll get back to you. I also have a Discord available to mutuals, if thatâs what you prefer. I promise Iâm not as much as a hard ass as these rules make me seem.
ABOUT THE MUN:Â
Hey! Thank you for reading these if you do. A little introduction here: my name is Rory, I'm 25, Canadian and operate mostly out of the GMT-7 time zone. Though, I tend to post at odd hours so that may not be too noticeable. I'm nonbinary and I prefer they/them. I'm a full time university student, which means that I may disappear when studies pile up or my time is divided. That said, I do enjoy talking to people when I'm able. My IMs and Discord are always available to mutuals, just drop me a message.

I appreciate the response. Yeah, among other adjustments, had the plot been handled a little differently, I feel like Samâs relationship with her parents could have evolved into something like that of Danny and Jazz and their parents. And donât get me wrong; I still like Sam, too.
(In reference to this post and follow-up ask.)
Good to hear from you again đ
I think there were a lot of things across the board that could have been tweaked or edited to improve the integrity of the series.  If I had to boil down the problem with DP to a single point Iâd probably say itâs that the most interesting parts of the show are the characters/world/implications but the writers (or some of them anyway - I suspect there might have been some conflict between Hartman, the lead writers and the execsâ) wanted certain plots, aesops and gags, and chose to brute-force them in regardless of whether they actually worked with what was already there. Basically, it lacks consistency and internal logic.
For Sam in particular I think there are a few things that could have been handled better:
First oneâs more a general complaint at the show and might light a fire under my notes but heck lets go there anyway but the writing has kind of a sexist bent that really doesnât fit the characters or need to be there. Considering how much Danny and Jack are shown to love and respect Maddie and Jazz thereâs no way theyâd call their involvement in Genius Magazine âthe swimsuit editionâ. Paulina might be traditionally feminine but âShe surrendered her individuality for a boy! Iâm so proud of her!â is not a line that any human girl in the history of human girls would say unironically. Thereâs also a few too many jokes that basically boil down to âmale character is emasculated/ vulnerable/ likes feminine-coded things, hyuk hyuk hyukâ.
Iâm bringing this up not just because theyâre gross cheap gags but because for Sam specifically, this pervasive low-key contempt for women and femininity in the writing, especially the tendency to portray almost every non-sympathetic girl her age as one-note, brainless boy-crazy cliches that she canât connect with, really does not help her character. I would have loved to see more genuine interaction between Sam and the other girls, even if it most of it was Kim Possible-Bonnie Rockwaller style antagonistic rapport. We could have seen her develop some kind of tenuous connection with one of the A-listers, or even just have a secondary-female-character to be cordial towards - kind of like Mikey is for Danny and Tucker. Hold up, outside of Valerie, Star and Paulina are there any named secondary girls at Casper High? Sam doesnât seem to have a single female friend in the show and considering how vocally judgemental she is, it can almost read like sheâs rejecting them outright for being girls, which really undercuts attempts to make her seem feminist. (I mentioned it in a past tag but this feels like an early-2000s-male-writer mistake of equating Female Empowerment⢠with the ability to tear down other women and belittle traditional femininity - which isnât so much Feminism as it is Internalised Misogyny.) Even just mixing up the pairings to put her with Star instead of Kwan in Lucky in Love would have helped.
Iâd have also liked to see more awareness of and consistency in the conflict between her activism and her wealth. It kind of undercuts the significance of her activism when you realise that sheâs wealthy enough to make these choices with little cost to herself; itâs much easier to go vegan or buy renewable/ recyclable /sustainable /fair-trade when price isnât an issue, especially if you also have serving staff to offset the time cost. Once you notice this it makes her activism feel more tokenistic, and also like she doesnât really understand her own privilege when she tries to push her agendas onto the school/ her classmates without considering why they mightnât be able to do so as easily. Itâs also weird because the source of her familyâs wealth is a cellophane-toothpick-wrapper (i.e. something that basically produces litter) but she still seems very comfortable enjoying the material benefits despite her pro-eco anti-consumerism sentiments. Itâs bizarre that sheâs more concerned with the social consequence of âfake friendsâ than the ethics of capitalism. It can come off a bit âdo as I say, not as I doâ.Â
It would have been nice for the show to give more screen time to reinforcing that Sam is aware of that conflict and is making an active effort to hold to her principles even at the cost of personal comfort; maybe showing some unease at the source of her wealth, trying to live below her means and only spend up on ethical/ eco-friendly/ sustainable products, op-shopping or hand-making her goth accessories, going out of her way to re-use or re-purpose things even if buying a new one would be âbetterâ, actually showing or referencing her doing substantial hands-on activities (e.g. going off-screen or taking the boys to do tree-planting, litter pickups, soup kitchens, animal-shelter work etc). Just something to help make it clearer that she genuinely cares and isnât just doing the low-mess lip-service activities because she enjoys indulging in the image of Wokenessâ˘.
These things would have helped regardless of how her family was written but letâs hop back on topic and talk about them. I donât have any prescriptive preference but letâs spitball a few different options and how they could have played:
#1 Samâs parents donât respect her interests and want her to fit a mold
In this case Iâd make it that they donât really pay attention or show much caring for who Sam really is as a person; their image of and interactions with her are more of a fantasised version of the âperfectâ daughter they want, they make very little effort to encourage her actual interests and are perhaps restrictive about what they let her do in the few moments when they do bother paying close attention (you might compare to some versions of Tim Drakeâs Parents from DC Comics). Classist, overly image-conscious, snobby and superficial. Â
This would be the most sympathetic portrayal of her character without changing it very far from how it is in DP canon - helping contextualise why Sam is so fiercely defensive of her autonomy, why she pushes so hard when trying to get her opinions across and why sheâs so judgemental of rich people and disdainful towards classic femininity - even possibly explaining her more hypocritical/ manipulative/ entitled traits as learned behaviours. It would also give her more legitimate reason to be less empathetic towards others - after all even if they have struggles and family troubles itâs still better than what sheâs dealing with (Dannyâs parents may not be attentive but hey, at least they love him for himself, right?)
For this version Iâd probably put her arc around growing past the âsuffering olympicsâ model of viewing other peopleâs pain, but also in her finding family in Danny/Tucker/her Grandmotherâs circle of connections, learning how to have healthy power-balance and communication in her relationships with others (aka: getting over her hypocrisy and realising that assertiveness is about communicating that âI matter, and so do youâ) and pulling away from her parentsâ influence - maybe even living with Ida a lot of the time.
#2 Samâs parents are well-intentioned but overbearing
For this one, Samâs parents would genuinely want the best for her⌠only they have an overly old-fashioned and restrictive view of what âthe bestâ is and are a bit set-in-their-ways. Theyâd probably view âhippiesâ and âgothâ stuff as âdangerously rebellious hooligan-activitiesâ and likely to be somewhat patronising about Samâs passion for it being âjust a phaseâ.  Theyâd be worried about her hanging around âthe Fenton Kidâ and âthe Foley Kidâ both because Dannyâs parents are kind of irresponsible screwballs about safety but also because they put a lot of value in image due to their belief in social connections being the way to get ahead. Them pushing Sam towards classic femininity and specific activities would be less about disrespecting her identity and more about their overly narrow view of âsuccessâ and worrying that sheâs going to end up losing valuable opportunities and âwasting her lifeâ if she keeps on down her current path.
This would still give Sam more sympathetic context for her views on femininity and pushiness about self-expression.Â
Personally I think the arc Iâd like to see here is one themed around responsible/considerate assertiveness and valuing alternative perspectives. Sam coming to realise her own hypocrisy - that she canât push her views onto others while complaining about her parents doing the same - developing more sympathy for Danny as she realises that heâs in a similar position with Jackâs insistence that heâll inherent Fentonworks and his parentsâ narrow-mindedness about ghosts, interacting with other girls and seeing their perspective, learning how to assert her opinion while making allowances for othersâ (maybe an alternative version where she connects with Star in Lucky in Love and, after Aragonâs defeat in Beauty Marked, Sam still says she personally thinks itâs dumb but then steps down and lets Star win because she understands that Star values it), and getting her Grandmaâs help in convincing her parents to widen their perspective while still responding to their concerns.
(This one has the overall kindest message and I think I like it best).
#3 Samâs parents are trying and Samâs actually the problemÂ
This one is the one thatâs the least sympathetic to Sam. Her parents still donât get the Goth/Activist thing and they have some concerns about safety but they understand that it makes her happy and theyâre okay with it so long as sheâs not getting into trouble or mixing up with anyone that could hurt her. Them pushing her towards more feminine/optimistic things is less pushing and more trying to encourage some hobbies that offer a bit more common ground. They might have reservations, and they might not always have time, but they would like to be part of their daughterâs life⌠except for the problem that Sam has wrapped herself up in a teen-drama persecution complex and got it into her head that they âwonât accept herâ are âpushing her to be someone elseâ and âdonât understandâ so thereâs no point even trying to explain or connect. In this one Ida isnât taking sides on purpose but she ends up accidentally enabling Sam a little because Sam reminds her of her younger days and she likes spoiling her granddaughter (and doesnât much care for her daughter-in-law).
In this case Samâs flaws would be framed much more as flaws born of her making superficial snap judgements, thinking she knows better and being too proud to admit sheâs wrong. There would definitely be moments of her coming across as an entitled, privileged holier-than-thou brat who invents problems because she likes feeling sorry for herself, especially early in her arc.
This version of the story would go the hardest on Sam with the general lesson being âyou need to respect that other people are people who have their own problems, feelings and needs that are as real and valid as yoursâ. Sheâd still have good qualities and Danny and Tucker would still obviously like and value her but thereâd also be times of strain where they donât want to hurt her feelings but are clearly getting worn out with the nonsense. At its worst, maybe a âyouâre like mustard. Great in small quantities, but a lot of you isâŚa lotâ type confrontation.
Iâd also give the secondary cast the most fleshing out, agency and sympathetic-ness here, and have beats where Sam has to realise that theyâre lot more complex than her 2D stereotyped view of them and are dealing with actual serious problems to which hers are largely non-issues by comparison. Iâd probably play Dash and Paulina similar to in the fic Alibi (go read it, itâs good) - Dash being gay and performing aggression because toxic masculinity, insecurity, and being terrified of anyone outside the A-listers finding out (still not okay that heâs a bully but at least more understandable), while Paulina is hiding high emotional perceptiveness behind her pretty face and deliberately bearding for him to keep bigoted parents/ teachers off his back.  Iâd also probably have a subplot in an alternate Life Lessons where Sam follows Valerie around because jealous/possessive and, like Danny, ends up realising that sheâs working two jobs to help her Dad with their financial problems. Basically sheâd be getting hit with the Reality Stick a lot.
Thereâd also be more instances of Sam getting directly called out by the other girls. Fleshing them out as people and showing that their dislike is less superficiality and more because she unfairly judges and antagonises them all the time. Giving them more agency in Beauty Marked and have them be direct about âwe know youâre just here to be smug about how much âBetterâ you are but have you considered that weâre doing this for ourselves and actually enjoy it?â. Having Paulina be less âtee hee I am indeed a Witchâ in Parental Bonding and more âUgh fine, fine, I donât really like him that much but you were being so obviously Jealous and Judge-y and I figured if I played a little you might actually step up. But fine, if youâre sure. Hereâs your necklace back, Iâll let your dorky âfriendâ down tomorrow. But pro-tip? You like someone you gotta go for it - otherwise donât complain when your boy-toy gets taken by someone who actually means it.â (Still petty, but emotionally intelligent pettiness, which⌠not really much better, but at least more interesting.) A lot more of Sam realising that sheâs not a particularly good feminist and that sheâs no more entitled to Dannyâs affections than anyone else.
To be honest, while I could say the most about this version and thereâs a lot of potential drama there itâs the one I like the least because it means canonising my least favourite proto-abusive bad-faith narcissistic reading of Sam, casting her as an almost-villain and essentially punishing her over and over until she character develops into a decent human being. Sure itâs an important message about how you treat others but itâs not a very nice or kind story and while there might be the odd fic that makes it cathartic I canât say Iâm a huge fan.
Again, if I had to pick, Iâd probably go with something like #2.Â
But there we go. Another thrilling instalment in the âoverly long posts about Sam Mansonâ saga. Â
Hope you enjoyed it and thanks for stopping by!

lululawrenceâs April 2019 Fic List
Click here for previous monthsâ fic lists
Guess whoâs back, back again... I actually wrote that when I drafted this post a month ago and Iâm keeping it cause itâs funny ahhaha So this month has been a ride, hasnât it? Iâve read some amazing fic though, so Iâm super excited to talk about it with you! I read quite a few from the Shake Off the Dust collection as well as fics from the beginning of round 2 of @onedirectionbigbang and other various things as I tried and failed to keep up with all the new fic coming out haha We are so blessed to have so much amazing fic. So, without further ado, here are the fics I read and loved this month!
Hazy by @nikogda / nikogda This fic was written for me because I was anxious one day and they saw a post referring to it and they wrote this as a soothing fic for me and lemme tell ya, IT WORKED. It was so soft and... well... hazy. haha I loved it. A great fic to come back to on a rough day, for sure!
Keep Your Hands Up, So I Can See by @goodmorningtoyouuniverse / GMTYUniverse This fic was such a great HP AU! It was enemies to lovers with a touch of misunderstanding and frustrations and just all the good things with cameos by some of our favorite characters from the original series! I loved it very much a lot. It threw me into the world and made me smile quite a bit.
it's in his kiss by @disgruntledkittenface / disgruntledkittenface This is where Maggie took what she wrote through requests on ask and posted them to ao3 for the kiss meme and lemme tell ya! Thereâs some ships she wrote that I never felt a desire for, and she wrote them so perfectly that I almost started shipping them hahahaa Each chapter is itâs own little world and it pulled me in so entirely that they felt like full fics! How does she do that in such few words? I dunno. But theyâre all glorious. Every last one. Defo a great read when things are hard too, iâd read a chapter when I had a moment and it made my busy, stressful days so much better.
Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now by @allwaswell16 / allwaswell16 I think this one was written for the short fic fest, and I loved it so so much! She describes Harryâs movements as âgiraffing aboutâ or something like that and I will never stop laughing about that. Add to it that Harry in the fic legit thought Louis was a mannequin and I just DIE. Itâs amazing. Such a silly, fun fic!
Soju (ě죟) by @gettingaphdinmomo / gettingaphdinlarry This is a Shiall fic that just drew me in. It has such a visual and atmospheric pull to it, like all of her fics do, and it makes you almost feel as if youâre somehow there. I dunno how she does it, but her magic is worked for sure with this fic and I had to just sit there, and process when it ended. A fun, short fic to easily get lost in.
Just Go With It by @rainbowsandlovehl / rainbowslovehl (Larrymateforlife) This fic!!!! Meet Cute heaven! It was light and fluffy and awkward and silly and I loved it so much and for real this Brett character was TOO MUCH. hahahahaha With the added fun of the little jokes like talk of organic guacamole etc and I loved it so much. It was the smile I needed.
All I Want Is To Fall With You by @2tiedships2 / 2tiedships2 Mel keeps posting fics that are so fun! How does she do it? This time the crew takes on a ski trip and Louis has to deal with stupid alphas staying in the same cabin without knowing about it beforehand and of course nothing goes to plan! Thatâs half the fun, though, right? Besides. The alphas arenât that bad. haha
Do You Wanna Ride by @phd-mama / phdmama She wrote this fic for @justalittlelouislove and I screamed reading it the whole time. I took so long reading it because I kept stopping to scream and share how uncomfortable I was over the obvious awkwardness and sexual tension and it was just SO SO SO GOOD. The embarrassment just gahhhhhhh I loved it.
Strawberries & Cigarettes by @dimpled-halo / dimpled_halo A year later I FINALLY read this and I loved it as much as I knew I would. I wanted pain, and it gave it to me! It gave me pain and healing and a gorgeous story. It was such a great read, Iâm so so happy I finally had the time to dedicate to it because it was just. So much of everything I love.
Let It Down by @red--special / red_special This fic has also been on my to read list for ages and I am also so so happy I got to read it finally! It was such a great fic and so much fun and so sexy and funny and awkward and I wanted to bask in it a little longer. It was so so good. hahahaha I keep thinking about the tattoo and I canât stop giggling. Just do yourself a favor and read this fic. haha
Like A Siren In The Night by @crazyupsetter / whoknows This is an a/b/o fic that I could not get enough of or read fast enough. Itâs historical, though that doesnât play a major role, and the playing with the world building was SO MUCH FUN to read. The way their relationship developed as well was just DELICIOUS. I loved every second of it.
please forgive me if my lips quake by @disgruntledkittenface / disgruntledkittenface Girl direction! With a cat! I was heart eyes the entire fic and once again, such feeling was evoked in it that I wanted to just sit and enjoy it for awhile longer. Sigh. What pure enjoyment! I loved it.
I was the King (tonight let it go)Â by @sadaveniren /Â SadaVeniren I... Okay listen. lollll I didnât write this obviously, but it felt like such a self indulgent read I almost wished I had? If that makes sense? It was everything I love. I LOVE the emotional side and thought behind BDSM. Like, thatâs most of what makes it so so so interesting and fascinating for me to read, and Sada gave that to us with this fic in DROVES as well as the fighting against natural inclinations etc etc etc. It was just a fab fic and I loved so so so much of it.
Failure to Launch by @all-these-larrythings / Rearviewdreamer Michelle has a way of taking things I donât know about and making me love them so so so much. This film was one that many I knew loved and I felt mainly meh about it, but I knew if Michelle wrote it I would love it, and I WAS RIGHT. She took all the things I was not fond of in the original and twisted them so it still referenced the original source, but made it so much better. I loved it so so so much because it was so very much like the original film, but also very much her own.Â
Come Home to Me by @pocketsunshineharry / ishiplouis I wanted pain, and pain was what I got. I cried and I kept waiting and waiting for things to come together again and they finally did! But WOW the pain leading up to that! It was amazing how much was harnessed in it. I will say, please beware the tags. Some heavy topics are handled in the fic - including some depression/anxiety etc - so please be safe with that. A great read, though!Â
fondre ton absence by @scrunchyharry / scrunchyharry OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG I just. Iâm a sucker for WWI and WWII period anything. Itâs one of my favorite periods in history for the social, political, militaristic, just EVERYTHING historically. I find it fascinating and I adore it. I was both excited and wary how this would go then, knowing how much I love it. Well. I cried the entire way through and was in awe of how the time period and everything was handled. Itâs an amnesia friends to lovers wartime period-typical homophobia acknowledging fic which basically means it is my dream fic. I cannot rave about it enough, much less the incredible art that was done by @whenthebodiesspeak!!! It was STUNNING and yeah. Just. Amazing. A masterpiece.
An Unbalanced Force by @kingsofeverything / FullOnLarrie MAROLD HAROLD with art by @goodmorningtoyouuniverse! I cried a few times during this one and it was such a realistic and beautiful and comprehensive view of a relationship, of adulthood, of trying to find love again after, just... all of it. It is a study of flawed individuals trying to make do and learning where their lines are and it is gorgeous. I loved it so so so much and I keep randomly thinking about it. A great fic and worth the wait and teasing she gave us over the months! hahahaha
That's What I'm Here For by @taggiecb / taggiecb ANOTHER DREAM FIC, ANOTHER FIC THAT MADE ME CRY! I cannot rave enough about how this big bang has kicked off, like, I just truly cannot. @noellehenry did a gorgeous moodboard for it as well, and I just. Demisexual farmer Louis who has been on his own for so long he just. Hardly knows how to be social anymore and Harry has to come and teach him and Iâm about to give away spoilers so Iâll stop but this fic is so close to my heart, okay? I love love love love love it.
To Carry Onward by @londonfoginacup / LadyLondonderry THIS LITTLE FIC!!! I keep yelling, I know. Sorry not sorry. But for real itâs 500 words and just...so full of love and longing and mystery and hope and I cannot. I love Emmuâs words and worlds and this is no exception.
A Spell and A Spark by @dinosaursmate / dinosaursmate Itâs out in the world! This fic was everything I needed when I read it. I was having a really rough time, and I would get to the end of those days and get to read this fic and it soothed me, cheered me, and took me away to another world. It was so much fun and just pure joy to read. And then the art that @londonfoginacup made for it! It was such a great combo of writing and art. Another wonderful fic for big bang!
{insert acclaimed artist} was never even in love anyway by underthesunlight This is the first of several fics I read from the Shake Off the Dust collection and it was such a fun read. It was domestic and silly and soft and it made me smile.
Primtemps by @londonfoginacup / LadyLondonderry Sheâs just so good, isnât she? I finished this fic and almost immediately went back to the beginning because I wanted to read it again. Itâs so soft and you could almost SMELL what she was describing. It was a perfect read of a perfect day and it made me long for the days in the past that Iâd had like it. Glorious.
Taking Care of You (Is My Favorite Thing)Â by @allthelarrylovex /Â cherrylarry Niam! Not usually my pairing of choice, but I loved it so much. I also very much identified with the shitty allergies aspect of it as I am dealing with that myself at the moment, so it just had me sitting there nodding like IT REALLY DOES SUCK BABES I GET IT hahaha
You Keep Me Warm by @crinkle-eyed-boo / crinkle-eyed-boo (KimmieRocks) Iâve not read Own the Scars yet, but I still read this despite it being a time stamp, and Iâm so glad I did. I loved it and it made me smile. It also made me want to read the original, so I canât wait until I have a chance to!
Love's Gentle Spring by @laynefaire / Layne Faire (HisDarlin) This is also a continuation! Itâs a fun addition to her spring drabbles from last year, which are not necessary to read in order to enjoy this, though it does add to the fun hahaha I loved that little series so much and was very very glad she made this addition!
Housewives of Our Lives by @homosociallyyours / homosociallyyours Iâve never watched any of the housewives shows, but that didnât matter. As usual Megan wrote a fic that had me wanting to be their friend and hang out with them as they did these ridiculous things because it sounded like such fun. I loved it as well.
A Larry Limerick by @kingsofeverything / FullOnLarrie I know this was mostly silly and to be funny, but I enjoyed it so Iâm including it here hahaha
sun, here it comes by @louandhazaf / YesIsAWorld and It's been a long, cold, lonely winter by @kingsofeverything / FullOnLarrie Iâm putting both of them here, because if you havenât read them yet you should. They are two sides of the same story, and I fully recommend you read them in the order I listed them too haha I did and it was wonderful and delightful and basically all things good. SO much fun.
just me, him, and the moon by HazHas4Nips This was cuuuuuuute! I donât even know what more to say, I just keep sitting here and smiling thinking about it. So I guess if you want a fic that makes you smile, this is a great little one.Â
Spring Break by @allwaswell16 / allwaswell16 This fic came out of a partially true story and it was so much fun to finally be able to read what Anitra did with it haha I was giggling and loving it so so much the entire way. As usual. Canât go wrong.
What's Mine is Yours by @uhohmorshedios / yeah_alright This fic is listed as a Narry fic, and it is, but itâs Narry friendship which made me giggle so so so much! hahaha It was so funny and the way Harry was described and Niallâs just...almost annoyance? I canât even explain. Itâs so much fun.Â
Latching Onto You by @reminiscingintherain / reminiscingintherain This fic is pure fluff. Fluff and silliness and all things sweet and good. I was trying to find the best way to describe it and the first thing that came to mind was it was a bowl of sweet dessert and I finally realized itâs a parfait. Itâs got layers, but all of it is sweet and soft and yummy. hahaha SO if that sounds like something amazing in a fic, then you defo wanna give this a read!Â
Face Your Fears by @sadaveniren / SadaVeniren Iâll be honest, I finished this one around 2 am after a very long day and had to wake up too early again this morning, so I still havenât fully computed this fic lollll Just know the pain is real, it is glorious, the journey the characters all take and the way Harry and Louisâ relationship grows is so incredible, I just... this fic is everything Iâve wanted in an a/b/o since I started reading a/b/o almost five years ago hahaÂ
And thatâs my very long fic list from this month! I hope you enjoy them as much as I did if you give them a try. And please remember to leave nice comments and kudos for the authors who work so hard to gift us with these stories! Happy reading :D

Look at you getting analytical on the ARROWs Professor Trashy. :) Next please do why not shipping a queer pairing on a show and or pointing out flaws about it doesn't make you homophobic! Sitting patiently for your class.
đ I would be a terrible professor anon bc flattery would make me buy fyre fest 2 tickets
PARAMETERS/DISCLAIMERS:
1. So you said queer pairings WHICH I accept as a blanket term for LGBTQ+ on my blog, but I think based on how simplistic gender identity is almost exclusively depicted in US media so usually this just means canonically only knowing a characterâs pronouns and Iâll come back to that. Basically, letâs assume for the sake of this weâre talking specifically about mlm and wlw ships.
2. Iâm also going to assume you donât mean where a character has canonically identified with a monosexual queer label, eg lesbian, and under the fairly narrow way sexual orientation is typically defined in media. Because yes, it is typically homophobic to ship a lesbian with a cishet man over litch rally any woman in the general setting, but more on that later too.
3. This would be a much less fraught issue if we had a robust catalogue of queer stories told by queer people with all kinds of endings (happy to sad) and genres (war movies to romcoms), but because thatâs not how capitalism and moralistic censorship in media works⌠we know that our attention and dedication to a franchise/ship is what the studios want from us to get that content.
This topic is another one where people tend to focus on individual examples, but the real issue is the big picture and repetitive behavior as experienced by queer folks. Western media and the male gaze love a âlesbian finds THE RIGHT manâ storyline, and itâs not a coincidence that that also is a line delivered in abuse to lesbians: âyou just need to try some dickâ. Iâm sure lesbians are not the only ones whoâve experienced this but because lesbians are women, the element of misogyny adds an extra twinge of violence to that outlook.
But a less basic and depressing approach to this, the Captain Marvel/Thor v Captain Marvel/Maria Rambeau example is a fairly decent example where one meaningful look between m/f characters can set off an Internet shipping lovefest but then folks gets real âfriendship is the truest loveâ re: someone with whom a woman has a substantive relationship that isnât given a romantic label. But that argument will never be resolved by Discourse, right, because the canon is the only place that can clarify, and MCU never will, so weâre left to our own devices. Thatâs just one example among a repetitive behavior that makes mlm/wlw ships feel inferior. Please donât @ me, yaâll know this is a Space Wives house no matter what anyone says đđť
OK, nowâ
Most of the time, we are left to infer a characterâs identity the via relationships they have, rather than any spoken identity. And most of the time, we are put through some heavy handed coming out reference for wlw and mlm characters, but it seems like we are increasingly getting some actual, spoken identities, ex: Grace Choi says the words, âYou do know Iâm bi, right?â
But IRL and with media, straight people still are just there, right? Thatâs why the coming out narrative belongs to queer people, and straight people âcoming outâ ainât cute solidarity. The absence of words is what makes characters straight (and sometimes itâs queerbaiting), and we are right to demand the actual language we use to form community is used in the media representing us, in a substantive and respectful way.
Also IRL, when we are kind and at our best, we know that someone who has identified as a lesbian for years entering a loving, healthy relationship with a cishet man is OK. Nobodyâs being invalidated. Itâs not commentary on my marriage to my wife. It has literally no impact on anyone but the two people in that relationship, as long as we on the outside arenât trying to be the Sexuality and Gender police⌠which we humans are much more prone to doing with thousands of strangers on the Internet đŹ
So keeping in mind that people get so worked up at least partially due to #4 above, I think the question isnât even about the ships necessarily, but how this friction in fandom is occurring. First and foremost, we should listen, without defensiveness, to everyone who tells us that the things we say or create make them uncomfortable in some way, and that doesnât mean you have to agree, because itâs up to you to decide to hold yourself accountable what you feel is right. And if youâve ever been the person trying to hold someone else to account, same applies to listening to the answer (including not accepting half assed apologies or whatever you have the emotional bandwidth to do after saying your piece). I think that if someone is going to someone elseâs blog, commenting on their content, essentially proactively taking steps to let someone know you donât like their ship for reasons other than problematic ones⌠youâre just stirring the pot for no reason. Make your own posts. Keep it out of the main tags. Filter and block content and blogs that make you angry.
Anyway, howâs that for the windy lead up to my answer to the question, which is: When weâre dealing with labeless characters, no matter how they present or who they date in canon, I think everything is fair game for fanon, and thereâs a weird demand for performativity in calling someone homophobic for not supporting a wlw or mlm ship. In a general sense, and given the disclaimers above.
The most important questions to me are: Is the construction of this fanon relationship healthy? Would they be happy?
Outside of that, if we donât have any indication otherwise, whatâs the harm in shipping a âqueerâ pairing, a straight pairing, or both? Or neither? Or, why are we playing into the baseline assumption that no label = cishet? And, isnât it at least partially bi/pan phobic to call a m/f ship hetero by default? đ¤ Same for it being transphobic to call the characters cis by default? The âphobicâ words arenât really right here: Itâs more like passive reinforcement of heternormativity.
HEREâS THE THING THOUGH: Thatâs where I feel like Tumblr discourse (and I donât use that word as a pejorative) has full speed lapped Hollywood and Western media bc no fucking way do they get to make that argument at us. Not until they have given us the utopia world of #4. Weâre still getting your Call Me By Your Nameâs and MCU patting itself on the back for that one dude referencing a husband. They get no benefit of the doubt until they make real steps toward inclusion and giving as many people as possible the opportunity to feel seen and understood and well represented on a worldwide stage.
So what Iâm saying is, I just donât think thereâs any reason to fight each other when identity is left in the air, amongst the fandom worlds. We turn to fellow fans and content creators for the rep we want, the ships we want, and to commiserate on the sins of canon. The real enemy is scarcity, specifically a false scarcity created by the capitalistic media world, and we should be together in demanding to be seen by culture as fully realized human beings with just as much of a spectrum of experience with the world as cishets.

Hi! Thank you so much for the kind words, and Iâm so sorry for the wait! Hereâs a link to the Jealous Kacchan mini-list, just in case you havenât seen it yet. Hmm⌠I think possessive behavior fics have a lot of Jealous Kacchan moments, so hereâs a mini-list! (Some fics are tagged with both âJealous Bakugou Katsukiâ and âPossessive Behavior,â so you will see some works listed on here that were already listed in the other mini-list!)

Later that night, Izuku is watching his favorite All Might video in a daze. He puts the question to his mother; can he still be a hero, without a quirk? He watches as she freezes up, pale-faced and wet-eyed before she rushes to his side and speaks in a trembling, tear-filled voice;

Through many pitfalls, confusion, and pains of growing up in a city where both are outcasts of their own kind, it takes more than just the threads of instinct and arranged contracts to bring two hearts together.

Miko!!! by Hermaphrodite ( T | 30,110+ | 6/? )
Izuku isnât really sure, but hes pretty certian in his past life he must have been a terrible person, maybe a heretic that had a cult following and went on a mass murder spree that cost people their lives or something, because there is no way that the gods could hate him this much for absolutely no reason besides existing. Firstly, he was born as a Omega, almost a second class citizen at this point if he was going to be honest with himself, and now at the age of four being branded Quirkless by doctors who were giving his mother looks of pity that clearly read that they thought just what society has conditioned them to think. To them, he was a quirkless, useless omega.Just because you live in a world where everyone has superpowers and you donât doesnât mean you arenât any less of a hero! World be damned! Theyâll just have to watch me do it!(Quirkless Omega Izuku accidentally summons Tamamo-No-Mae and becomes a DemiServant, and now with her power he will shape the world and show everyone Omegas can be Heroes! and well, Kaachan just wants everyone to stop staring at his Deku)

Dollhouse season one full review

How many episodes pass the Bechdel test?
92.3% (twelve of thirteen).
What is the average percentage per episode of female characters with names and lines?
46.83%
How many episodes have a cast that is at least 40% female?
Nine, over half (six of those were 50%+, one of them 60%).
How many episodes have a cast that is less than 20% female?
Zero.
How many female characters (with names and lines) are there?
Twenty-eight. Thirteen who appeared in more than one episode, six who appeared in at least half the episodes, and one who appeared in every episode.
How many male characters (with names and lines) are there?
Forty-two. Eleven who appeared in more than one episode, five who appeared in at least half the episodes, and three who appeared in every episode.
Positive Content Status:
Not good at all. The series is rife with violence against women and involves sexual assault on a constant basis, with acknowledgment or exploration of such inclusions intermittent and interlaced with excuses. Needless to say, it never even gets close to flirting with an above-average content rating (average rating of 2.76).
General Season Quality:
A mess. There are elements of good things here, and some episodes that utilise that potential, but mostly this is a show that doesnât seem to know what it wants to do or how far it really wants to pursue its own promises, and it is full of dead air and extremely questionable storytelling, wrapped around one of the least-dynamic lead characters Iâve ever seen. Itâs a recipe for failure, and a disappointing one at that, because done right, this could have been truly amazing.
MORE INFO (and potential spoilers) under the cut:

Letâs nail down how consent works, because it might be the most important issue at the heart of this show that the writers just donât seem to understand: consent is not a binding contract. Real consent isÂ
1. ongoing (may be revoked at any time if the individual in question wishes; must be re-established or renegotiated if the circumstances originally consented to change)
2. enthusiastic (if the individual becomes uncertain/uncomfortable with conditions, actions must halt until consent has been renegotiated and re-established)
3. informed (an individual cannot consent to terms that are obfuscated or omitted; consent gained through lies or trickery is not consent at all), and
4. willing (coerced consent - whether through threats, ultimatums, manipulation, or other means - is not real consent. If the individual is placed in a position where declining is not a viable safe option, they cannot give consent).
Pretty clear-cut, really. With that in mind, the only way that the Dollhouse could operate in an ethical manner would be if the dolls were genuine volunteers who were restored to their original personalities after every engagement, so that they could consider the requirements of each job as they arose and pick and choose which ones they were comfortable fulfilling; it would then also require that their imprinted personality include strict parameters agreed to beforehand to preserve their ability to revoke consent if their boundaries are violated. Of course, there would still be LOADS of ways for the technology to be abused, but thatâs an irrelevant discussion in context, because thatâs not how the Dollhouse operates. Many of the dolls are not willing participants from the outset, but even if they are, after being stripped of their personalities and memories they lose the power to make informed choices and their enthusiasm is all programmed in, and itâs irrelevant anyway because they are not presented the opportunity to give or deny consent in their ongoing situation. Whether or not the dolls can consent is not up for debate: by definition, plain and simple, they cannot. To suggest otherwise is kinda the same thing as when people say that marital rape isnât a real thing, as if signing a marriage contract permits your spouse to override your bodily autonomy anytime they want. Consent can be fickle, subjective, and highly conditional, and those are all good things because they protect the basic human right to personal sovereignty. Consent is not a binding contract.Â

Despite occasionally throwing around lines about how âyou canât consent to being a slave!â, the show doesnât want to commit to the idea that the dolls are, unequivocally, being abused, and the failure to be morally assertive on that point leads to some seriously reprehensible presentations, most notably in terms of rape. The oft-repeated lofty idea behind what (theoretically) makes the Dollhouse âgoodâ is that they give people âwhat they needâ, which mostly means fulfilling sexual fantasies. Naturally, this makes all of the Dollhouse clients who acquire a doll for sexual purposes, rapists. They know thatâs what theyâre getting into, too, they know that theyâre paying big bank to have a person brainwashed into fulfilling their desires, which by definition means that the person is being denied the capability to give consent. This isnât a naughty secret being hidden from the client; itâs a known factor which theyâve decided they donât care about. Theyâre ok with taking advantage of this person in order to fulfill their âneedâ. Thus, the fact that Joel Miner just wants to play house with an imprinted version of his dead wife is not cute or romantic, itâs still rape, but the show doesnât treat it that way: itâs directly handled like weâre supposed to be happy that he gets what he wants, in the same episode as the writing finally bothers to dabble vaguely in the concept of consent issues after it turns out that Sierra has been raped by her handler (while NOT imprinted to think she wants it). Thus, the episode in question draws a straight parallel between the idea that thereâs âreal rapeâ (what Hearn does), and then thereâs innocent wish fulfillment (what Miner and anyone else who bothers to have their victim programmed first does), and we shouldnât conflate the two. Except, obviously, we should conflate the two. Both are rape. Thereâs not a moral grey-scale here, thatâs like arguing that if you drug someone first so that they canât resist, thatâs less assaultive than if they were cognizant enough to struggle. Both are rape, both disregard the bodily autonomy of the victim and deny them the right of choice. âBut I really miss my dead wife!â doesnât make it better, and it certainly doesnât make it ok. And giving people âwhat they needâ at the expense of others is not virtuous - especially when you factor in the price tag attached to a made-to-order sex slave.

The above-referenced episode is one of the most egregious examples of this at play, but itâs a recurrent issue throughout the series, and not one thatâs gonna go away. The story is not interested in analysing the fact that DeWitt has repeatedly raped Victor; her conflict about the issue revolves around the feeling that she - like the other Dollhouse clients - is pathetic for âneedingâ programmed service. And while Ballard expresses misgivings about the idea of raping Mellie, he still does it, repeatedly, and thereâs no condemnation from the narrative; weâre supposed to see this as a complication to Ballardâs moral compunctions, that heâs confronted with shades of grey in the black-and-white world he had imagined, but there are no shades of grey. You knowingly committed rape. More than once. The first time they had sex, when he didnât know she was a doll? THAT is something Ballard can feel conflicted about, because he didnât do it knowingly, he was not able to make an informed decision, his own ability to consent was impaired and heâs entitled to feel abused by the Dollhouse machinations that put him in that position. THAT is legitimate conflicted emotion. Going âfuck you, Dollhouse, you want to send me a sex slave, Iâm gonna take out my conflicted emotions ON HER through what I readily recognise as rapeâ, thatâs...not something a character can do and then still hang around on the show representing any kind of morality. Thatâs not even anti-hero material, thatâs villainy, and if we respond to Hearnâs crimes by snapping his neck against a coffee table, why is Ballard still roaming around feeling righteous? The show is so sketchy on morality, it doesnât even present Ballardâs attitudes as self-delusions, it isnât exploring his descent into evil. Even from the first episode, it was unclear where the story really sat with Ballard, seeming simultaneously aware of the fact that heâs not as pure and heroic as he imagined himself, but also never pursuing the idea of exploring a more complex moral reality. If ânow heâs a rapist but he feels bad about it (but not bad enough to NOT DO IT IN THE FIRST PLACE)â is supposed to suffice as âdeconstructionâ, boy howdy, I got news. You canât even pretend to deconstruct anything if youâre too busy equivocating to have an opinion in the first place.

Iâve used this word so much already in relation to this show that itâs starting to lose its meaning, but what Dollhouse really suffers from is a misogyny problem. I touched on it already in the episode âOmegaâ when I talked about how Alphaâs ruminations on the nature of the self/consciousness/etc are undercut by the intense misogyny of his character and story, because his presence in the narrative and his impact on other characters is so heavily tied up in the violent expression of his misogyny that thereâs no room for a clear-minded discussion of anything else, and in truth the entire series suffers from the same affliction. Misogyny is so ubiquitous in the story at the same time as being so rarely acknowledged that they canât engage meaningful thematic discussions about anything else; misogyny is the elephant in the room, and so much space is being dedicated to it, thereâs nowhere to squeeze anything else in edge-wise. The refusal to acknowledge the clear-cut nature of consent and thereby the inherent sexual assault built into the frame work of the narrative is part of this, but it also represents an insidious division between âreal misogynyâ and the various kinds that the show doesnât want us to acknowledge, the many and sundry equivocations it is entertaining in order to avoid having a moral backbone. Alpha literally slicing up womenâs faces is âreal misogynyâ (by the writersâ definition), and a character like Nolan putting Sierra in the Dollhouse so that he can have force her to have sex with him is âreal misogynyâ (quite contradictory since Nolan still has his doll programmed to want him, just like all the other clients; apparently itâs only rape if the perpetrator is a mustache-twirling cackling supervillain type). Tanaka slinging off about âwhoresâ is âreal misogynyâ that Ballard can take umbrage with, but Ballardâs infantalising obsession with calling women âgirlsâ? Weâre not batting an eye. The fact that Echo is repeatedly engaged by one Matt Cargill, whose rape sexual fantasy is all about teaching a ditzy inexperienced girl new things? Cute! Echo being violently beaten in more than three-quarters of the episodes this season, sometimes multiple times per episode? Eh, thatâs normal. Thatâs normal writing.Â

The âreal misogynyâ is the stuff that the writing deems worthy of being called out, and like with the issue of creating a false grey-scale to excuse âsofterâ rape crimes, this creates a situation in which more low-key misogyny can skate by unchecked because weâre being encouraged to view it comparatively, instead of objectively. If youâre talking about a violent serial rapist and you say âhe calls women âgirlsâ all the time, too!â, it sounds like youâre being silly, because hello, there are much bigger problems to talk about. On the other hand, if you donât sit around making softening comparisons, you can actually talk about how women being infantalised by men is a big problem that is part of a larger tapestry of misogyny, especially disturbing for the intersection with sexualisation (HUGELY at play with the dolls in their âdoll stateâ), and relevant to the discussion of pedophilia (which, incidentally, the show featured TWICE in just thirteen episodes, but without any kind of exploration or commentary that would suggest an actual reason beyond the voyeuristic fetishisation of sexual violence which is this showâs bread and butter). Because the misogyny problem on this show is so all-encompassing (along with the rape-apologist grey morality, it is built into the framework of the series itself), the fact that it is never acknowledged and brought into the thematic conversation of the story blows a hole out the side of the writersâ ability to have any kind of sophisticated conversation about the morality of their subject matter: the combination of oblivious sexism and wanton avoidance leaves the moral compass of the story...nonexistent, really, smashed to pieces and rendered useless. Itâs like they didnât want to have to talk about the morality of the Dollhouse at all, they just wanted the narrative conceit of programmable people and the opportunity to indulge various objectifying fetishes, but since thatâs not how storytelling works they figured theyâd ramp up the ambiguity and pass off the lack of nuanced discussion as âshades of greyâ, despite how inappropriate that is with sex trafficking. Thus, you get a show which treats âbut if the perpetrator is sad, is it really rape?â like thatâs a legitimate question.

Honestly, we could unpack this show forever, because all of it needs unpacking, because itâs riddled and stained irrevocably with garbage in a way that is pervasive and complicated, but Iâm gonna let this lie for now. Weâll talk about it all more as season two unfolds, and when I review that seasonâs developments and eventually, the full series (save me). Thereâs loads of stuff that I didnât even touch yet, so at least I know I wonât be starved for content. I did know that, coming in, I knew itâd be an unhappy mess. The one thing that really surprised me about season one is how little the narrative actually discussed its own invoked themes, I thought they did better than that - perhaps season two will fill that void a bit. Maybe Echo will get hit in the fucking face less, too. Iâm not gonna bet on that. After all, what would this show be without women turned into sex objects and then violently punished for it? Well. For starters, it would be better.

2017 Fic Writing in Review
I was tagged by the lovely @chocolatequeennk, @jemsauce, and @aneclipsedhabitue to do a look back on the fic I wrote this year.Â
total number of completed stories:
102! And this number only counts completed stories, and so A Kiss a Day, A Kiss and More, and Lost and Found (coauthor: @chocolatequeennk) donât count. This number also isnât counting individual chapters, so keep in mind that there are several multi-chapter stories contained in that total.
total word count:
271,029
These are only the words I have published. But in addition, I have 74,112 unpublished words (90% of which are part of my Soulmates series), so technically, I wrote 345,141 words! And this count doesnât reflect any words I have deleted in the many false starts Iâve had with some stories.
(And here is where I piggyback off of Nancyâs plug about using Word Keeper Alpha. This is such a useful website, and it has so many functions and ways of sorting/organizing your writing projects. Itâs so helpful with keeping track of word counts.)
fandoms written in:
Doctor Who
looking back, did you expect to write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what youâd expected?
In some ways I wrote less than expected, but in others I wrote more. As far as numbers go, I wrote far fewer fic this year than I did last year. However, I believe the quality of the stories I wrote and published are of a much high caliber than last year. And writing decent-quality stories often takes time. Also, Iâve been so focused on my soulmates series that I sort of let other projects fall to the side. And I wrote more multi-chapter fics than last year.
whatâs your own favorite story of the year?
Oh, so many. I canât possible just pick one, so have a couple:
And Baby Makes Three -- I really loved giving James and Rose a baby. Ainsley had become my baby, so any fic with her (or her siblings) in it are my favorite.
And Baby Makes Four -- Ditto as above. It was fun giving James and Rose a second baby, and giving Ainsley a sibling, and to write about the changing family dynamics that comes with a new baby.
A Marriage of (In)convenience -- Iâd never written any sort of historical romance before, and it was loads of fun.
In a Heartbeat -- Yet another soulmate AU story that was a lot of fun to write. I took a spin on the oft-portrayed perfect first meeting, and instead had it be one of fear and anxiety as Rose suffered injuries from a car accident just moment after they found each other.
did you take any writing risks this year?
Hmmm... my biggest risk was deciding to expand Perfect Match into a series. Iâve never tried conquering a series, and Iâve been nervous about the time commitment, and whether or not my brain will stay interested and focused on the series so it wonât become abandoned. But so far so good!
do you have any fanfic or profit goals for the new year?
Hmm, not so much. Which is probably a bad thing to admit... I should probably have goals. Okay, so on the fly, my fic goals are:
To write and publish the next story in the soulmates series
To continue my Kisses âVerse
To write and publish the Beauty and the Beast AU Iâve been sitting on for nearly a year
To write the next next story in the soulmates series
To coordinate with @chocolatequeennk and maybe finish Lost and Found
best story of the year?
My best stories are also my some of my favorites. This is probably very telling: if I really really like what Iâm writing/wrote, itâs often my best writing quality, too.
And Baby Makes FourÂ
A Marriage of (In)convenienceÂ
In a HeartbeatÂ
most popular story of the year?
So I looked at AO3 for these. It considers Perfect Match to be a 2017 fic, but I donât, considering I only posted like four chapters in 2017. So apart from that, it lists A Marriage of (In)convenience as having the highest number of kudos. Iâm happy with that; it was definitely an excellent story, if I may say so myself. But is anyone else is curious, hereâs the top 5 kudos-ed stories:
A Marriage of (In)convenienceÂ
A Kiss a Day
A Way With Words
In a Heartbeat
Perfectly Matched Outtakes
story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Ooh, this is hard. My gut-reaction answer is And Baby Makes Four. When I was posting the story, it wasnât getting a ton of feedback or recognition. It was also lagging in stats behind And Baby Makes Three, which was frustrating because Sianinâs story was, in my opinion, of a much higher quality, and yet people seemed to prefer Ainsleyâs story to Sianinâs. I just wanted to shout at the world while holding Sianin above my head, Rafiki-holding-Simba-style, and make people love her like I do.
most fun story to write:
Okay, since Iâve been repeating myself quite a bit, Iâm gonna pick fics I havenât mentioned yet.
Lost and Found (WIP) -- Itâs so much fun writing and brainstorming with @chocolatequeennk.
The Universe Next Door -- It was so satisfying to dabble in a potential scenario where Vera wasnât killed in the car accident.
story with the single sexiest moment:
I didnât write a whole lot of smut this year. And when I did, it was often tender or romantic sex, not just pwp porn. My top four are:
Morning Shenanigans -- James and Rose get it on on their kitchen table
Family Planning -- James and Rose get it on on their couch
Even When Weâre Far Apart -- Tentoo and Rose indulge in telepathic sexy times
A Change in Perspective -- a bit of Tentoo x Rose bodyswap porn
most sweet story:
Well of course, anything with Ainsley and/or Sianin ;) But Iâve been referencing their stories a lot with this meme, so Iâll try to think of something else.
A Way With Words was definitely a really sweet story. Itâs a soulmate AU (surprise, surprise) where John is an author and he meets Rose at one of his book signings. Both of them had rather unfortunate soulmarks, but once they realized the context, all is well.
A Kiss a Day (WIP) is a sweet story with various snippets of kisses shared between the Doctor and Rose as their relationship progresses.
A Change of Plans -- this was based on a very adorable prompt by @doctorrosepromptsâ where an AU Doctor forgot to ask Rose to the prom but just assumed they were going together. It was light and fluffy and fun to write.
âholy crap, thats wrong, even for you!â story:
Definitely Secret Love Passageways -- this was hilariously cracky purple porn wherein Rose has like 150 hands and theyâre both in the most contorted positions. I never write crack, so this was definitely âwrongâ, even if it was so much fun to write.
story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters & most unintentionally telling story:
Iâm not sure I have an answer to this. I feel like I have a decent grasp on the characters I use, but I constant am expanding them to fit the situation Iâm throwing them in in my stories. Maybe the best answer is the journey Iâm taking James and Rose on in my Soulmates series? Theyâre constantly growing and evolving as their family expands, and that has been really great to write and explore. Iâve often found myself accidentally overlaying my James and Roseâs personalities on other Ten x Rose stories I write, so I need to get better with separating the James and Rose in my head with the ones that donât belong in that series (idk if this answer makes any sense at all).
hardest story to write:
Definitely Sianinâs story. It quickly became darker/deeper than Iâd originally intended. There were so many times I feared I would completely fuck it up, or that people would be turned off from the subject matter. @chocolatequeennk and her never ending support really helped me slog through the end of the story, and to make it the best it could be.
biggest disappointment:
Probably that I sort of let my Kisses âVerse die, or at least become stagnant. Iâd hoped to write a little bit a day, but when that became impractical, Iâd hoped to write a bit of it a week. Now, four and a half months later, it still hasnât been updated :-/
biggest surprise:
Peopleâs continued interest in my Soulmates series, I think. I know sequels usually have a smaller following than the main story, especially since the sequels are all baby fic. But the fact that people have fallen in love with Ainsley and Sianin so deeply was a wonderful surprise.
This was so much fun! Thanks for tagging me, everyone!
Iâm gonna tag @perfectlyrose, @ebdaydreamer, @paigenotblank, @blueboxesandtrafficcones, @starsandfairytales, @tenroseforeverandever, @asarahworld-writes, @lizann5869, @megabadbunny, @whoinwhoville, @hellostarlight20, @hanluvr, @wordsintimeandspace, @goingtothetardis, @ofstormsandwolves, and anyone else who is reading this and hoping to be tagged (because I know Iâve forgotten many other brilliant writers). Sorry if yâall have already been tagged to do this; itâs been hard to keep track of whoâs done this and who hasnât.

Constitution
Yesterday I said I got out of hand...today I only managed to get more out of hand.
So this story took a very messed up turn! I have labeled it as M and truthfully only like the first two paragraphs are T, so M will be under the cut. Today does include the whole story because we did not get smutty but I will include the AO3 tags so you can decide for yourself if this is something you really want to read. Because I really need to emphasize: this story is messed up!
Alternate Universe - 1920s, Kidnapping, Human Experimentation, Medical Experimentation, i think this is a, Dead Dove: Do Not Eat, Obsession, Worship, Just really messed up, Implied/Referenced Rape/Non-con, Non-Human Character?, The author questions their sanity, Possible mind control?, what's really going on in this story is so ambiguous
Constitution: the physical makeup of the individual especially with respect to the health, strength, and appearance of the body.
Lafayette knew he wasn't human, knew there was no way a human could be crafted so perfectly. He had never known obsession until he had George, had never known there could be such joys in life until George was his. Perfectly and beautifully made.
***
Lafayette wanted to pull him apart. He wanted to tear him apart bit by bit and examine just what it was that made him so remarkable. What it was he was hiding underneath his skin.
He wasnât human. There was no way a man like this could be. He had seen him in action. Had watched as he slowly turned every occupant in that speakeasy to his side. He wasnât just a good speaker, he had noticed it, something odd. His index finger would tap tap tap on the wood of the bar and someoneâs head would perk up and listen to what he said.
Lafayette was enraptured. Not only by the curious action, but by the man himself. He was one of the most perfect people he had ever seen. Symmetrical to a fault, body not too big nor small, just utterly perfect.
He swallowed down the rest of his drink so quickly he felt dizzy for a moment when he pushed himself up and made his way over to the curious man. He needed to know if he was right, if he was really in the presence of such a godly creature.
His gaze on Lafayette made him flush bright red, made him stutter his words like a fool. After a moment, he regained his footing and the embarrassment was gone, pushed away by the need to know just what this man was. He swallowed down the last bit of fear bubbling up and held out his hand.
âGilbert du Motier, Lafayette.â He grinned, holding himself perfectly still. He could not appear too eager, too willing to fall under his spell no matter how desperate he was.
âGeorge Washington.â He shook his hand and Lafayette almost melted on the spot. âItâs a pleasure to meet you.â His palm was warm and enveloped his so perfectly it could not be mere coincidence. Yes, in that moment, time paused to give him the space to understand it perfectly. They were perfectly crafted to balance each other, like puzzle pieces, made to fit together like their hands were now. Lafayette and this gorgeous creature.
Lafayette pushed drink after drink in Georgeâs direction, charming him and convincing him that another couldnât hurt. The fact that each time he listened, sent shivers down his spine, melted him to a puddle. This god, listening to him. Doing as he said. It couldnât really be possible could it? That he, a mere human, could have influence. Were they really truly made for each other?
Lafayette took him home, removed his clothes, gave him some water, and watched as he peacefully drifted to sleep. He watched for hours. Watched the way his chest slowly rose and sunk, listening to his quiet breaths, occasional snores. He had never felt so obsessed, but he could never look away from the peaceful creature.
In the morning he grinned wide at Lafayette, no symptoms of a hangover. Lafayette gave him bread, more water, watched him walk out the door knowing he would be back.
When he did come back, there was not even a single drop of alcohol on either of their tongues when he took him. Took him like a savage beast, knew him so completely, so wholly it couldnât be possible. Read his mind at every turn.
In the morning, Lafayette tied him up.
He struggled and cried, confused and horrified, but Lafayette was amazed the ropes were actually able to restrain the creature. He gently brushed over his tied up hands, feet, whispering, breathless that it was amazing, he was amazing.
Now that he had him, there were so many things he wanted to do to him, needed to do to him. But he needed to know how he bled. He had never witnessed him bruise even as Lafayette tried so very hard to bruise and break his skin with his teeth the night before, but for all his trying, it did not work.
He grabbed his medical bag, given to him years ago by his senile aunt and uncle who thought he could use it. They thought he was going to become a doctor or some other medicine man, he wasnât sure. But now he couldnât have been more grateful for the gift.
He listened to the sounds of George struggling in the chair, scraping against the wood, crying out for him to stop, please stop. He pulled a small scalpel from the bag. He did not want to injure George, in fact it was the last thing he wanted to do, but he simply needed to know the answer to his most burning question. Did the creature bleed red?
He got to his knees before George, it was the only way he could be, and turned the scalpel over gently in his hand. âI promise this will be the only time I hurt you.â Lafayette dared not to look up into his eyes. âI just- I need to know. George, I need to know if you bleed like the rest of us.â He whispered, still unable to look up at him.
He pressed the scalpel hard into the smooth skin, slowly slicing to ensure the cut was deep enough to draw a good amount of blood for him to examine. He heard George hiss above him, but when he saw the first red drop, he pressed a little harder and pulled the scalpel away. Tears formed in his eyes at the sight, overwhelming his senses. Red, it was red. He did bleed and he bled red. So overwhelmed was he and amazed and shocked that he suddenly lunged forward, tongue tasting the metallic blood. Horrified at himself, he pulled away, still trembling from excitement and pleasure, his cock stirring in his pants. He was so deceptively human it hurt.
Lafayette filled his days with George, never knowing there could be such a deep happiness in his soul until there was George. He questioned him constantly, did he know what his thoughts and desires were? Did he have the power to completely turn others' thoughts? Why did he never bruise? Why was he so strong, but not strong enough to overpower the simple ropes that kept him bound? He did not understand Lafayette's questions, he begged to be freed and Lafayette balked. How could he possibly wish to get away from the one made so perfectly for him?
His physical makeup was beyond perfection. His mind was one of the smartest he had ever encountered. George was downright intoxicating and Lafayette was drunk on the rush that experimenting on George gave him.
Everyday that he performed another test, he was blown away by what he learned. He had his George swallow poison and he threw it back up, all over him, but Lafayette cried. Overwhelmed and grateful because he continued to be so beautifully inhuman and human.
He could get drunk on alcohol, but not die from the worst of poisons. Would not bruise but bled and came so easily it delighted Lafayette every time he made it happen.
But as beautiful, spectacular, and amazing as George was, everyday he refused to reveal what he was only served to make Lafayette more furious. He could not stand everyday that he did not know just what his George was hiding from him. And he took such good care of him! He fed and bathed him, cuddled with him at night, pleasured him and laughed with him. What more could a man possibly need? Lafayette couldnât understand it, he was so so happy to be right where he was so why didnât George feel the same?
Even if George was not content to be here, not content to share his secrets, his true identity, Lafayette would learn about all the things that made his George special.
He grabbed the small bottle off his shelf, inspecting the label to ensure it was the chemical he was looking for. A smile tugged on his lips and his chest felt fuzzy. He would be trying something risky today.
He returned to his room to see George, perfect George, tied up in his chair. He did not acknowledge Lafayette when he came in the room and he almost snapped. Almost yanked his head back and screamed in his face that he would acknowledge the one made for him. Almost. He knew how tired his George was, it wasnât entirely his fault.
He came over and tapped him on the shoulder, heart pounding faster when his eyes landed on him. He almost fell to his knees right that instant, but he couldnât just yet.
âI have something for you.â He grinned sweetly. George stared blankly at him, like he did hear his words at all. Lafayette frowned, wondering how much longer he could be patient with his love. âI know that you have nothing to be afraid of, so go ahead and open your mouth.â He gently prodded his mouth open, unable to quiet his moan when he so silently obeyed.
He pressed his fingers inside, curiously feeling the warm heat, pressing each of his teeth, pressing on his tongue. He removed his hand from inside, but continued to hold his mouth open with his fingers, fumbling to open the bottle with one hand. He poured a generous amount down his throat, moving his hand to press on his throat, encouraging him to swallow it all. Another shiver ran through him and he finally was able to drop to his knees.
He held the bottle up to his lips and quickly swallowed the rest of the burning chemical down. Arousal burned hot through his whole body remembering how this very same bottle looked pressed on Georgeâs tongue.
He shoved one hand down his pants and pressed his face to Georgeâs crotch, ears ringing, vision slipping from him. The substance wasnât known to kill everyone, babies and children always and certain adults. It was a bit of a mystery, but this was a test. A test to see just what his George could do. He would surely save him from the brink of death if he arrived there, why wouldnât he?
Lafayette stuck his tongue out and moaned obscenely, already tasting George through the fabric. The hand in his pants worked furiously as his mind stepped over to the madness that George always invoked in him. The madness that had him lapping at George like a dog, senses overwhelmed with the feeling, the smell, the taste of George. His perfect George.
He came with a sob, fat tears rolling down his face as he cried at the overwhelming intensity that still only George could bring. His heartbeat pounded so loudly in his ears, so loud he almost did not hear Georgeâs delightful voice, did not feel his delightful hand on his shoulder.
âShhhh.â He soothed, âitâs alright, Iâve got you.â Lafayette forced his heavy eyelids to open. George was floating in the clouds, bright and godly. He finally did it. He finally proved just who he was. The most heavenly of creatures was before him.
His warm hand gripped his, still so perfect after all this time, and pulled him. Pulled and pulled him away from the precipice of death into his warmth. His George was a god. His George would save him, always.
His eyelids drooped lower and lower and he slumped harshly forward against the cold, decaying body.

So this is the Bullshit

I donât believe in call out posts. I think theyâre unnecessary and usually create a tidal wave of drama over a misunderstanding or an issue that might have been resolved with a simple click of âunfollowâ or blockâ.
This is one of those instances where it is necessary. Where the actions of one person are genuinely harmful and quite likely malicious and itâs actually impossible to know the extent of everything they have done.
Before I proceed, I want to make it clear that I do not condone sending this person hateful asks-or, indeed, any- asks about their behaviour. If you wish to unfollow or block them-or not- then that is your business. But I did not make this post to encourage spiteful behaviour.
I want to thank everyone who contributed to this post, whether it was sending me data, good vibes, proofing or just cheering up my cranky butt at varying points between now and April. Without further ado:-
This is a callout post for user Vallanoble, for actions spanning back to February of this year.
Before I start, I need to point out a couple of things, this is a long ass story. It might take at least one session to get through all of the receipts, of which there are many.
Also: tumblr took a shit on the formatting and none of the links work now. Everything is ugly but I have a back up Iâll post when whatever weird glitch this is fixes itself.
SEVERE TRIGGER WARNINGS FOR THIS POST
Secondly, for much of April, before this story crossed over to tumblr, Vallan went by a nickname that was an amalgamation their general location on my statcounter and the fact they had sent weird anons as opposed to their actual name. Now that the story is being publicly connected to a singular individual, Iâve edited out all references to physical locations from my data and switched out the actual place in the document with the word âdipshitâ. Yes, this took hours. Yes. I had a LOT of help. This is in the interest of protecting user privacy, however and not dishonesty.
First things first, Dipshit anon is an overly passionate Zen fan. They donât interact much, so tbh I never really noticed them ?? But for sure they were following me around the time of this postÂ
http://fromthedeskofelizabeththird.tumblr.com/post/155205738770/1-am-i-the-only-person-who-feels-like-zen-is
(which seems to be the first they reblogged from me) and I recall they had been for quite some time at the time of this one
http://fromthedeskofelizabeththird.tumblr.com/post/156327734615/i-love-how-you-always-take-survivors-opinions-into
which they later alluded to in a post of their own.
Itâs important to actually note several things happening at this point:-
Random overly enthusiastic Zen anon exhibit AÂ //Â http://fromthedeskofelizabeththird.tumblr.com/post/156228295970/you-know-theres-something-that-annoys-me-like
Not so rando enthusiastic Zen anon // http://fromthedeskofelizabeththird.tumblr.com/post/156308585305/i-have-a-question-how-did-you-interpret-zens-bad
Zen anon the third // http://fromthedeskofelizabeththird.tumblr.com/post/156206700610/what-are-your-thoughts-on-the-conflict-between-zen
Zenâs creepy childhood brought up with the beginnings of resentment towards a Jumin post made only shortly before

http://fromthedeskofelizabeththird.tumblr.com/post/155500851985/what-do-you-think-to-the-thoery-that-jumin-is-a
Tbh Iâm a bit annoyed that tumblr removed their historical notes from posts so I canât actually reference stuff properly >:[, but January was a very busy month in terms of Zen anons (a pretty recent thing, so I donât think Dipshit had been following me for THAT long??) asking me about stuff while I posted Jumin fics and other Jumin meta, all while Dipshit anon liked the posts all of thirty seconds after I answered them, which basically led me to the conclusion theyâd probably been the one asking in the first place.
In January, they talked to me about fanfiction
http://fromthedeskofelizabeththird.tumblr.com/post/156305150630/vallanoble-replied-to-your-post-wait-why-dont
This is important. At the very least please take note of the tone
In January, they were also posting this, complaining about Jumin blogs shitting on their favourite character.

(I took screens in case of deletion)
This post is fine on its own, but crucial context for what came later.
By this point, I had them tagged on Statcounter, though I didnât know about these posts until February, when this debacle happened

Tl;dr, in a conversation about how Jumin fans felt uncomfortable about a particular phone call, an anon came out of the blue to change the thread of conversation to Zen. Why is that familiar?!?

Same behaviours as before. Both resenting discussion of Jumin where relevant and blaming me personally for gross fandom behaviours I was not guilty of. I had statcounter data too (no longer unfortunately, as I have the free version), but anyway, I blocked the user and went on my merry way.
Note:- In case it is not clear, I was able to work out the identity of Dipshit and block them based on their historical activity, previous asks they had passed onto me (which in turn led to their tag on stats), stat counter data at the time of the debacle (data I donât have anymore, but they remained tagged in April) and a cross reference of posts on their own blog.

Once again, crucial context for what comes later.
Prior to JuminV week, I received this ask
http://fromthedeskofelizabeththird.tumblr.com/post/159180924940/zenxv-and-zenxjumin
This question came off the back of this ask to Jun, which was liked by Dipshit anon.
https://xeraeus.tumblr.com/post/159177453126/what-i-was-asking-a-question
There is currently no evidence to tie the ask itself to Dipshit however, in light of what happened later, I am including that detail nonetheless.
On the first day of JuminV, this was posted
https://vallanoble.tumblr.com/post/159427686298/sees-zen-x-jumin-content-stop-that
 (screenshot here)
followed succinctly by this ask
http://fromthedeskofelizabeththird.tumblr.com/post/159426686395/am-i-the-only-one-annoyed-about-the-popularity-of
I made the connection to Dipshit Anon after replying. Juminzen week, as far as we know, was not in the works until after JuminV week had already started. Therefore, itâs unlikely that first message is connected to it and it was sent for a different reason.
Note:- Here is Dipshit directly admitting to sending the JuminV ask Part one, part two

In any case, since I didnât want to start ship drama, I dismissed them?? I blocked them by IP around this point.
After I responded two more responses came, citing a disability when reading and claiming to ship JuminV over Juminzen tl;dr because it was not fetishisation. I deleted both of these messages and blocked by ip. I would not have deleted them if I had already made the later connection.
I posted to twitter at this point, joking that it was the first day of JuminV and already Iâd blocked the entirety of the University of Dipshit by IP.
I posted again a short while later after checking statcounter and making the connection.
Dipshit anonâs name or URL was not mentioned. The fact that they actually studied at the university was assumed, though not confirmed nor referenced by myself the tweets were later deleted and this is to the best of my recollection
Things went quiet, but then the mod of JuminZen week started liking my tweets about Dipshit anon (which in turn made me suspicious, as we did not know one another and did not talk until May). Strange asks started arriving to other bloggers in regards to JuminZen. My statcounter traffic started to spike with visits from the university of Dipshit.
In this period I made jokes about âDipshit anonâ, based on the fact that I had blocked them by ip more than once and they persisted in viewing my blog, leaving me to redirect their individual ip addresses to rick rolls, crash safari and more. In private I also complained about them, because their actions were making me uncomfortable.
They posted this on the 14th, which later made me suspicious
https://vallanoble.tumblr.com/post/159572324383/if-someone-makes-a-jumin-x-zen-week-i-will-boycott
(screenshot here)
https://vallanoble.tumblr.com/post/159700504123/wow-im-feeling-like-shit-i-want-to-die
This is what they posted on the 17thÂ
(screenshot here)
This is definitely about me, considering everything Iâve covered so far and this paragraph
were the same person who talked about listening to survivors expressing discomfort yet you shut me down just for not liking your fave. even when i phrased things nicely and came just to discuss things you immediately responded aggressively and accused me of trying to start drama. well im sorry that i saw you discussing similar topics and thought i could come and express my feelings to you but obviously you only care about specific instances of homophobia or problematic things that occur in the fandom if they have to do with bashing ur gross fave, jumin the ultimate misogynist han
The thing I didnât understand was why it was framed as if friends were laughing, but
#dragzenweek
#dragzenweek was established as a joke (and regardless of opinions on the matter, it was not actually tagged with Zenâs name), but Alyx reported receiving genuinely hateful comments from fans of Zen and people who hated Jumin over it. One of them was Dipshit anon, which I pointed out at the time on twitter. Alyx posted a screenshot of a post from their notifs with Dipshit Anonâs URL blanked out and I was able to identify it. I personally feel from the manner the screenshot was edited, it would not be possible to identify the user without prior knowledge. (Please donât take my word for this, however. Here is a screenshot)

I was in contact with other friends about Dipshit anonâs behaviour and the possibility they were connected to other current dramas (at that point, I was the only person to receive an anon in regards to JuminZen who knew where it came from) both in private and otherwise. I was concerned, but did not want to spread malicious, unwarranted gossip.
Itâs important to reiterate that in any given public conversation about Dipshit Anon, they were only ever referenced as such and not as any individual tumblr user. Dipshit-originally- referred to the general location of their Ip and Anon referred to the fact they had sent an anonymous message.
I spoke to Alyx about this at the time expressing concerns that Dipshit anon thought I was perhaps connected, or at the very least somehow involved with dragzen week.
On the 19th/20th April, I made a private document, detailing everything I currently knew, with links, screenshots etc (the first draft of this document). I did not want to keep repeating the story and if I was actually going to suspect this person of behaving badly, I needed proof. This document could not be liked, reblogged etc and and was only circulated privately among friends who had been in conversation about Dipshit thus far. It was a presentation of the facts as I knew them and intended to inform, leaving everyone to come to their own judgement on the matter.
Remember that at this point, beyond sending asks to Alyx and their priors with me, we did not know for sure Dipshit was connected to other dramas and without statcounter data, there was no way to actually prove it.
On the 19th of April, Alyx posted this screenshot to twitter.Â

At the time we joked about how this remark was actually unfair of both characters, as while itâs certainly true that Jumin can be quite mean to Zen, Zen is hardly kind to Jumin either. Neither the screenshot nor the subsequent thread were tagged JuminZen or Juzen. You would have had to have gone directly onto Alyxâs page to find it.
This coincides with the following twitter based traffic to my tumblr page.
Worth noting is that Alyxâs twitter is listed on their tumblr page, where they also received hateful messages about the week on the 20th of April,

which once again coincides with twitter based traffic from Dipshit Anon.Â
Considering Dipshit Anon complained on the 17th about me and my friends and then Alyx received a complaint about their hateful friends, I do not think itâs too much of a stretch to suggest a connection.
Also around the same point, off the back of sentiments from other people that someone was trying to perhaps stir bad feeling betweeen Juminzen and JuminV shippers, I commented that I knew of two potential problems in this regard, one of which was Dipshit anon who I knew for certain had sent me an ask that would have caused drama. I mentioned victim complex, by the way, as a comparison to the Juzen shippers sending asks badgering artists. I was rather suspicious that no matter how shady their behaviour, ultimately Dipshit anon would convince themselves they were doing the right thing and anyone who told them otherwise was being a bully or a homophobe, having seen such behaviour before- both from them and other fandom dramas.
Also worth noting is that my tweet was on my own personal twitter page, which is not listed anywhere and was written J*zen. It was not retweeted and no one commented on it. It would have been impossible to find without either going directly onto my page or searching Dipshit Anon.
Around the 20th, Vess confirms traffic from Dipshit anon coming through from Valâs blog. Vess continues to receive traffic from them over the next few days. This comes after a tweet expressing the belief that Dipshit anon is, in fact, more than one person. In response, I note that the messages I received (of which there were three) came from Dipshit anon, which I know for certain. I do not confirm or deny anyone elseâs, however.
That same day, Gillian also questions if Dipshit Anon is making the rounds. However, I personally do not comment on that thread.
On the 21st of April, Dipshit anon posted hate directly to the Jumin Han tag because âthey wanted Jumin stans to see itâ
https://vallanoble.tumblr.com/post/159807410203/i-just-wanted-to-let-you-know-that-im-in-the-same

Note:- this gained a negative reaction on twitter as it broke established etiquette.
They later received an anon asking to stop sending messages.

Note: I donât know who sent this message. Up until this point, I had complained about them for stalking my blog, sending an ask that would have created a shit ton of drama and expressed my own concerns that they might have been doing the same to other people. None of us had mentioned sending asks about Jumin outside of that one post on the 19th, which related to askZen. This was not officially connected to Dipshit Anon at the time.
They later express righteous anger at the idea of âpopularâ Jumin and V stans blaming them for drama
https://vallanoble.tumblr.com/post/159834850458/apparently-someone-is-going-around-sending-angry
Screenshot is here
Note:- a quick search made it quite apparent that no âpopularâ Jumin or V stans had referenced this blogger recently. However, this post comes shortly after dipshit anon was referenced as victim complex 101 on twitter (as dipshit anon). The connection was not made until later.
Dipshit anon claims to have been harassed, without mentioning names.Â
https://vallanoble.tumblr.com/post/159836552898/leave-me-alone-i-honestly-dont-know-what-the
Could be true, considering the Jumin post, though is not tied to that and no asks are published. Feels victimized for content they post on their own blog. Also claims not to have sent anons and only have lurked in the Zen tag, which is, frankly, untrue.
Note the phrasing: Â honestly how narcissistic do u have to be to think that one person who you had a disagreement with once is going around over 2 months later harassing every person who like jumin??? like??? Â <- this is about me

Note:- This message also comes off the back of me saying on twitter (not 100% seriously) Â that Iâm almost tempted to do a call out. Also note that this mostly came from the fact that they accused us of stalking and bullying on tumblr based on out of context comments from twitter.
Dipshit anon claims that people are spreading misinformation.Â
https://vallanoble.tumblr.com/post/159838725443/honestly-i-dont-like-people-who-blame-things-on
At this point the only information being passed around is a private document containing links to legit sources that cannot be reblogged to avoid this exact thing. References being mocked, which ⌠this blogger has not been referenced on tumblr. Has only been mocked for their efforts as Dipshit anon. Based on things they have actually done.

Dipshit anon refuses to give receipts on behaviour and references not wanting to start drama even though they spoke about boycotting an event only recently and tagged their hate that same day.

Dipshit anon tells another person that they have only made posts on their own blog irt Jumin, which is not true. They also say that their behaviour comes as a result of wanting their experiences as an abuse survivor to be considered. (Deleted! this private post was only referenced on twitter. In replies to conversations, not all of which mentioned Dipshit anon. Usernames were not mentioned. It was not posted on tumblr. Enough said. It was at this point that everyone started to suspect they were actually watching peopleâs twitters.

Demands information from the people supposedly sending them hate Deleted, I took a Screenshot
Posts this by way of a receipt (does not link actual users) Deleted, but I took a Screenshot
Note: You cannot just stumble across tweets !!! Also, the topic of conversation WAS Jumin. Dipshit got defensive after I refused to change the topic.
I would also speculate that this ask Alyx received on the 21st came from Dipshit anon, given these factors:
The timeline - Â having asked Alyx and knowing that ask arrived somewhere between 5am and 3pm cst on the 21st of April, which places it on the busiest period of Dipshit anonâs posts that day. Between the Jumin hate and many other of their corresponding posts
the knowledge that Dipshit anon was watching our twitters
the data that proves they were watching both Vessâ blog and mine for certain
They arrived at Vessâ blog via referral from Valâs. With this in mind and the facts above, itâs not unlikely that during this period they actually lurked everyoneâs blogs.
This ask arrived during a very difficult climate when Dipshit felt particularly angry and in their own words, was stressed and emotional.
Not only that, but they themselves were on the receipt of criticism for posting hate in tags on the 21st.
I did a search of their blog for mentions of Yoosung and Unknown and they have explicitly stated a dislike for the Yooran ship  (screenshot)
https://vallanoble.tumblr.com/post/159453918143/mysticmessengerspambot-gah-im-tired-of
This is speculation, but considering the evidence, I believe it is fair.
On the 22nd April, Dipshit Anon sends a message to Alyx (part2)(part 3)

They send a message to Serena shortly afterwards

Here is how the conversation goes:
S: Â âIâm a bit confused about what it is you want me to tell you, honestly. I never thought that we were engaged in drama nor were we fighting, considering Iâve never spoken to you before.â
DA: Â âNo, I didnât think so either. But apparently you and some others had a post listing things Iâve done and I was really confused?? There was accusations of me sending people who liked Jumin mean asks which I didnât do? I just wanted to clear everything up and figure out where that was coming from.â
S: Â âI donât recall anyone saying that people were sending Jumin fans mean asks. Can you be more specific?â
DA: âUm, wasnât that the entire point of what was going on though? There were tweets saying that I was sending harassment to people who like Jumin?Someone sent me a message telling me to stop sending asks to people who like Jumin which I didnât do? And it seemed like it was from one of you guys. I could be wrong, though.â
S: Â âWell, I didnât send that message, and to my knowledge none of my friends have sent you anything.â
DA: âThat was the bulk of my frustration. I saw some tweets assuming that I was sending anon asks to random people about Jumin which I didnât do, and I was overwhelmed and upset at being told I was doing something that I didnât.â
DA: Â âOkay. Then what was all the hype about saying that I was harassing Jumin fans? And that there was a private post that apparently had a bunch of evidence that I did a bunch of things? I honestly was super confused on what everyone thought I did and thatâs why I was upset.â
S: âDo you want to link me to a specific tweet claiming that youâre harassing Jumin fans, because I still do not recall anyone saying that.â
S: Â Honestly, itâs really not my responsibility to entertain you, but Iâm a bit tired of this and I have exams to study for so Iâm going to anyway. First of all, my friends and I arenât a hive mind. I donât know what it is theyâre saying about you at all times, and just because they say something it doesnât mean that I personally agree with it.
Second of all, I was referencing this ask that you sent to Louise when I referred to sending asks trying to start shit:http://fromthedeskofelizabeththird.tumblr.com/post/159426686395/ ⌠Iâm not interested in debating whether or not that was actually your intention; it doesnât really matter to me because thatâs the effect it wouldâve had when it landed in Louiseâs inbox had she chosen to reply to you seriously. And I know that you were the one who sent that ask, because of this post that you made subsequently, so donât bother:https://vallanoble.tumblr.com/post/159700504123/wow-im-feeling-like-shit-i-want-to-die ⌠For some reason, you chose to pretend that her response was some sort of personal vendetta against you for disliking Jumin, even though her response has nothing to do with Juminâs character at all and simply stated that she doesnât want to partake in an argument thatâll cause friction with JuminZen fans. And then you did a whole lot of misconstruing by saying that sheâs belittling you for your justified anger or not taking your experience as a survivor seriously, which is a very serious and untrue accusation to be making of a person who is also a survivor. Hence, my annoyance with you.
Thirdly, I posted my incredulity at the fact weâre the same age, because of your assertion that adults in the fandom are bullying you despite being an adult yourself, and despite the fact you arenât being bullied. Getting blocked isnât being bullied, itâs being ignored by someone who has no requirement to engage with you anyway. Fourth, it annoys me that you said you havenât sent any asks about Jumin since months ago, when you just sent that JuminZen ask like two weeks ago, because thatâs lying. This entire time youâve remained anonymous in our discussions. Weâve literally been calling you âDipshit anonâ, and your url hasnât been publicly revealed anywhere. None of this information is available to anyone except in our group of friends, since the post containing these and other links is private, and weâve only been sending it through private messages to people we are friends with. The fact you decided to listen in on a conversation about things you really did and claim that having that conversation is bullying is your problem, not ours. Have a good night.
Screenshot of Dipshit Anon loading my blog one hour before I am referenced in this conversation
Before Dipshit Anonâs response, I learn that Vergil received a strange JuminZen ask and receive clarification that, while he did receive traffic from Dipshit (the location), the one in his askbox was Italian. Around this point we discuss potentially eliminating Dipshit from this particular inquiry, but also to keep an eye on them in case of future problems. I too received traffic from Italy recently.
Dipshit begins deleting posts off their blog around this point. (The final two on the list)
Vess confirms traffic from Dipshit anon

Some notes:-
In regards to point 8, this person is blocked from my blog for reasons I have already explored and it is manipulative, to say the least, to complain about my reaction to them when they had no business being in my inbox in the first place.
The phrasing of point 8 actually is very manipulative in general âoh well, she doesnât careâ. My emotional labor is not for their profit, nor consumption.
Speaking of manipulative, consider the point about age. Dipshit anon repeatedly refers to themselves as a child when they are nineteen, repeatedly complains about adult bloggers and grownups being condescending and in points 8 and 9 complains about an inherently present power dynamic that I should be aware of when speaking to younger bloggers, all while sending asks on anon. I cannot feasibly guess the age of anonymous asks.
I donât actually remember saying anything about Zen and Seven fans on my twitter or tumblr. I also cannot find anything on my twitter about this. So. Um. Receipt? Â
I believe that point 11 is true to an extent. I believe they probably found DragZen on the 17th and, from there, found Alyxâs tumblr. I also believe that from there they found Alyxâs twitter, which would give us something of a timeline so far. It certainly brings us to their angry post on the 17th, in any case.
Itâs true that I identified them as Dipshit anon, but only after concluding that their URL was blanked out satisfactorily and only because Dipshit anon was the name I had been using from the beginning to identify the person that sent me a questionable ask and continue to load my blog afterwards.
The next part in 15 is just. Where do I begin? Even Dipshit is not sure whose anons I identified as theirs. As a matter of fact, I only identified Alyxâs. When Vess got statcounter, we compared data in the interest of accuracy (as I later did with Vergil), but none of this happened on my public twitter.
When Dipshit refers to Gillian receiving asks, I believe they are talking about this, which I did not confirm
Point 15/16 makes me really uncomfortable, for reasons I will come to at the end.
Here is them viewing my blog around about this time
S: Â Okay, re: everything else now.
1. All right, if you didnât consider that ask as being about Jumin then Iâm fine with setting aside the idea that you lied about it. It was personally frustrating to me because I really donât care what asks you sent about Jumin months ago, I was annoyed by the response to Louiseâs way of handling the JuminZen asks from a couple of weeks ago. Itâs pretty clear by now that you probably didnât even have that JuminZen ask in mind the entire time all of this was happening, but thatâs what I was thinking of in terms of everything else I posted. I have my thoughts on how the situation couldâve been handled differently by both you and me, but at this point I donât think it matters anymore and in the interest of resolving things letâs call it a misunderstanding and move on. I already said I donât really want to debate whether or not that ask would actually have started drama so Iâm not going to.
2. I wasnât aware of the timing of your post was after the DragZenWeek incident and not after the ask you sent Louise, but upon re-reading it makes a lot more sense in that context and Iâm sorry for making assumptions. To ease your worries, Louise wasnât stalking your blog. She has an app called StatCounter that allows her to see where people are accessing her blog fromâthatâs how she put together who it was that had sent her other messages prior to the JuminZen ask, and thatâs how she was able to block your IP address. By the way, she also knows youâve been bypassing her IP block to visit her blog these last few days.
I can understand why you were stressed, honestly. I disagree with the way you do a lot of things, but Iâll readily admit that I personally made a lot of assumptions that I didnât have a real basis for making, and Iâm sorry. I stand by my statement that no one claimed you were going around and harassing Jumin fans with asks, though.
To explain my own point of view, most of what was annoying *me* was that you were conflating responses to you with disliking you for liking Jumin. I canât speak for anyone else, obviously, but I personally could not care less if you hate Jumin. Speaking for myself here, Iâve said multiple times that although Jumin is my favourite character, Iâm completely sympathetic with the reasons people would have for hating him, and Iâve also said that I would never engage in a debate over him with someone who says Jumin reminds them of past abuse because that isnât my place to speak. Most if not all of my friends have said the same or similar, and honestly, I donât want friends that donât have that attitude and when I dislike someone I make it pretty damn easy to tell. But you were accusing Louise of that, which I think is especially insensitive because Louise is also a survivor, and now youâre saying that you meant for all of that to apply to Alyx tooânot that you need to know this, but Alyx heavily criticizes Juminâs route for the exact reasons that you probably would. Again, itâs a very serious thing to accuse people of being abuse apologists, especially when you donât know the situation.
I canât speak for anyone else, but Iâm sincerely sorry that you were hurt by my words yesterday, especially because some of the claims I was making were unfounded. Gossip is something I generally try to avoid, and I think this entire situation was a good reminder as to why I do that. I still donât think this falls under the definition of bullying, but I do empathize with your perspective and Iâm sorry for my involvement.
Iâll go back and delete any posts about this that were made by me. Here are my recommendations for you:
1. I donât know if you have the extension XKit, but it allows you to blacklist certain words so that posts containing them donât show up when youâre browsing tumblr, and it allows you to block posts that you dislike/donât want to see. Itâs a good tool to help you stay safe while navigating the site, and I think you should probably put Juminâs name into it since youâve mentioned that you find him severely upsetting.
2. Use the âantiâ tags when you want to discuss character hate/critique, or donât tag at all. Itâs totally within your rights to critique a character, and using the anti tag means that anyone who chooses to interact with your post is consenting to do so knowing what theyâll be getting into. When you tag a post, youâre basically giving people permission to engage if they want to, so if you want to have a critical discussion about a character with like-minded people or people who disagree but are interested in having a discussion, thatâs your way to do it. If you only want to discuss with like-minded individuals, you can throw on an â#Iâm not interested in debating thisâ tag so people who disagree know to stay away. Thereâs a reason none of the DragZenWeek posts were tagged with Zenâs name and this is that reason.
3. This goes for both of us, but if youâre seeing something happening out of context, donât assume that you know what the context is. You didnât know what it was I was talking about when I discussed asks you sent, I didnât know what you were talking about when you made that post (and I also assumed it was you sending the other asks, double bad on me). I donât think Iâve anything more to say on this subject. If you do, feel free. Thank you for taking the time to contact me in spite of your social anxietyâI understand that that was hard to do and I appreciate it.
Dipshit Anon:
Thank you for your reply. I appreciate you clearing things up. I usually tag my posts with anti-Jumin, but at that time I was still emotional and defensive about things I previously mentioned, so I thought that tagging it would send a one time message to people that like Jumin to not harass survivors that feel uncomfortable with him about it. Thatâs all I wanted. It was a bad move on my part and Iâve gone and fixed it and Iâm sorry.
I forgot to clarify these things - I didnât think Alyx was being insensitive towards me being an abuse survivor - I made an error when constructing that sentence and it made it seem like I was including them in that statement. I just was upset because I was under the impression that they thought I was pathetic and attention seeking for my deleted post on DragZenWeek.
I canât remember what exactly happened that made me say that thing about Louise being insensitive to abuse survivors and not liking me because I didnât like Jumin, but that wasnât about the JuminZen ask I sent or the previous one for February. It was something to do with her statement about me being attention seeking and seeing some responses to other peopleâs asks who criticized Jumin or something. I honestly canât remember, and looking back at the post I donât know why I said that, and Iâm sorry.
I feel like a lot of this was due to misunderstandings by me and a little on the others sides and I reacted defensively and angrily to situations when I didnât know the entire story. That just led to more statements and miscommunication on both sides and it spiraled out of control. Nevertheless, I apologize wholeheartedly and I appreciate you giving me a polite and courteous reply. Iâve been dealing with some tough stuff in real life for the past few months, including a traumatic brain injury, thatâs clouded my judgement and made me more volatile and sensitive to criticism or what I misunderstand as negativity directed at me. I know that doesnât excuse anything, but I just wanted to clarify that Iâm not usually like this, and I usually keep to myself. Iâm digressing, but I sincerely do apologize. I appreciate your clarification and will definitely do the the things you recommended. If you could, it would be very much appreciated if you could pass along my apology sentiments to everyone else that was involved. You donât have to, and Iâm not expecting them to forgive or unblock me or anything, I just want them to know that I am sorry and Iâm usually a reasonable and nice person when not under extenuating circumstances.
Thank you again and I wish you the best.
Also - clarification about why I didnât have Juminâs name blacklisted - Iâm on mobile Tumblr a lot, because itâs just easier for me to use because of a lot of convoluted reasons related to my learning disabilities and mental illnesses. But I do have them blacklisted on my computer, and when Iâm on mobile if I see a particularly terrible hate post about Zen or a post that is praising Jumin but uses examples of Zen and why he comes up short in comparison, Iâll block that person. I usually donât really care and avoid that stuff, but I have encountered several blogs in particular (none of which belong to you or any of your friends) that express extreme animosity towards people who say Jumin makes them uncomfortable or reminds them of past abuse. Thatâs kind of where that ask response was coming from. I just wanted people not to bug others who donât like him. But it was done in the wrong way and Iâm sorry. Also, I was only checking Louiseâs blog because I was paranoid that she was going to post things about me and I wouldnât be able to see them. Iâm not going to do that anymore and Iâm sorry.
And those blogs I mentioned that attack abuse survivors make numerous posts saying stuff like âif you say jumin made you uncomfortable I donât like youâ or âpeople who are triggered by jumin are the worstâ and etc. Again, it wasnât you or any of your friends, but some of those people who do that were really insensitive. Iâm sorry for tagging the post though and getting y'all dragged into it.
Notes:-
There is a difference between EXPLAINING your actions where relevant and EXCUSING them. And excusing them is very much whatâs happening here, given this phrasing: Â Iâm usually a reasonable and nice person when not under extenuating circumstances.
Disability or stress or emotion is not an extenuating circumstance for accusations of abuse apologism and stalking, nor is it an extenuating circumstance for repeatedly insisting on engaging in conversation with someone who has blocked you. Itâs not an extenuating circumstance for flat out lying in some cases and manipulating the facts in others. Itâs not an extenuating circumstance for listening on a conversation you arenât included in and choosing to accuse the people having the conversation of bullying instead of asking for context.
Secondly, Dipshitâs comment here: Â I forgot to clarify these things - I didnât think Alyx was being insensitive towards me being an abuse survivor - I made an error when constructing that sentence and it made it seem like I was including them in that statement. I just was upset because I was under the impression that they thought I was pathetic and attention seeking for my deleted post on DragZenWeek.
Given the timeline we have so far, their post on the 17th, Alyxâs asks around that period and the traffic on my blog, I think itâs more accurate to suggest that they WERE including them and are backtracking.
Also in regards to this: Â I canât remember what exactly happened that made me say that thing about Louise being insensitive to abuse survivors and not liking me because I didnât like Jumin, but that wasnât about the JuminZen ask I sent or the previous one for February. It was something to do with her statement about me being attention seeking and seeing some responses to other peopleâs asks who criticized Jumin or something. I honestly canât remember, and looking back at the post I donât know why I said that, and Iâm sorry.
Once again, given our timeline, the fact that if I called them attention seeking at all it wasnât until after the 19th in replies to other people and Alyx and I chatted about Jumin on twitter on the 19th, I feel itâs fair to conclude that this could be a legitimate memory blank, but itâs more likely to be backtracking.
Itâs also very clearly backtracking irt: Â but that wasnât about the JuminZen ask I sent or the previous one for February, when both are explicitly referenced in the post itself.
I usually donât really care and avoid that stuff, but I have encountered several blogs in particular (none of which belong to you or any of your friends) that express extreme animosity towards people who say Jumin makes them uncomfortable or reminds them of past abuse.
This is the second (?) time theyâve angrily drawn other people into a conversation about unrelated topics and they have made posts about boycotting events, they tagged their hate only recently etc. I think it is fair to conclude from all evidence so far that they do care and they donât avoid that stuff.
Iâm on mobile Tumblr a lot, because itâs just easier for me to use because of a lot of convoluted reasons related to my learning disabilities and mental illnesses
I went back to count and Dipshit anon mentions their illnesses, injuries and more on seven separate occasions and always in the context of gaining pity, thereby shifting the power dynamics of the conversation.
Dipshit Anon remains blocked as of April 2017
As of 22nd of April 2017, they continue to load pages of my blog, despite their own statement that they would not:
Also, I was only checking Louiseâs blog because I was paranoid that she was going to post things about me and I wouldnât be able to see them. Iâm not going to do that anymore and Iâm sorry.
Also worth noting is that this traffic came through a t.co reference, which is the shortened url format from twitter.
In response to this, I made my tweets private again and removed the link to my blog from my twitter bio.
As of May 8th 2017, Â they continue to load pages of my blog.
I believe this occurred because of a reblog of this post.
http://fromthedeskofelizabeththird.tumblr.com/post/160437244740/your-recent-reblog-made-me-realise-how-mistreated
As of the 10th of May, I receive traffic on a singular VxMC-centric fic from Dipshit (the location). This traffic recurs over several days right up until the 14th.
I do not usually receive traffic from Dipshit the location with this amount of frequency. I also knew that Dipshit the person had been browsing my blog. This put them on my radar.
On May 15th 2017, I learned of this ask on Voidâs blogÂ
http://vo-dcc.tumblr.com/post/160686201606/i-saw-you-were-one-of-the-artists-for-the-zen
(screenshot).
At the time, I had my suspicions that Dipshit might be involved and a brief check on their posts that day reveals that Dipshit did intend to submit to the fanzine.

 (Link)
https://vallanoble.tumblr.com/post/160685696123/zen-fanzine-project
At approximately 9am that morning, I receive traffic from them on statcounter.
The interesting thing about this is that at first I was not entirely sure why this traffic happened. I do not reference anything about this incident on my blog until approximately midday, when I reblog Voidâs answer to a second ask.Â
http://vo-dcc.tumblr.com/post/160688531186/the-creator-of-the-zen-fanzine-did-clarify-that

(Screenshot) (Here is the time stamp of when I actually reblogged it)
From 8.30am onwards, Void and I were talking privately about the situation, at which point (a little before this conversation)Â
Void referenced typing out a long post, which likely became the one they later posted. (Having chatted to Void, they later confirmed that it was in fact, already posted by the time of that screen.) This creates something of a potential timeline of Dipshit seeing the post shortly after it was posted and following through to my blog shortly afterwards. (Note: I believe I was not the only one to receive this treatment, but Iâll get to that later)
In any case. I asked Void to check if they were blocked by Dipshit and it later transpired that they were.Â
I encouraged Void to get Statcounter, we compared notes and here is a full compilation of all trafficÂ
 from Â
Dipshit received within the first day of installation. (Pls note that the date is different because of time zones. I live in Britain and for me these times are in the evening of the 15th. US people would be even further back in the day)
Here is a screen of Dipshit later admitting to sending both asks covered so far to Void
Note that I said I was not the only person whose blog potentially received attention from Dipshit as a result of Voidâs posts. I believe that Dipshit actually went through the blogs of several people who either commented or expressed support for Void over the course of those few hours spanning from when they first received an ask to the 9am response.
This would not only fall in line with current evidence at hand, but also their actions in April.

When reviewing statcounter data, itâs clear that Dipshit reviews the #notes of posts and flits from one blog to another.
While this was happening, I was in conversation with user mariamagica, having seen them comment on Voidâs post that they knew who was sending the anons. Considering that this was the same person who had liked my tweet about Dipshit Anon way back in April, I was curious to know what they knew and if we had any shared experiences.
It transpired that Dipshit was so well known to them and had caused them so much bother that they were able to reference them by name within a matter of seconds. They sent me this screenshot sent to the askbox of the Juminzen week blog.
Mariamagica had them blocked, but I encouraged them to get statcounter and here is their Dipshit traffic from the 15th.
A short time after this, Vess and Jun confirm that Dipshit followed them that same day.

Dipshit continues to lurk my blog.
Having gone over the events of the day, I made a post at 18:46 my time. This is a soft warning and a pre-emptive call out. Up until this point I had not said anything about Dipshit anon publicly on my tumblr, but I was running increasingly low on patience. I blocked them in February and kept the details to myself at the time, but they continued. In April, we resolved it peacefully but they continued. At this point they were on strike three.
In my post, I listed three examples of asks from Dipshit.Â
http://fromthedeskofelizabeththird.tumblr.com/post/160701054230/attn-mysme-fandom
These were all examples I could confidently attribute to Dipshit and as it gained so many reblogs, I gainedÂ
 a
  lot of traffic Â
 from DipshitÂ
in that period.
This traffic extends to my personal blog

I received an askÂ
http://fromthedeskofelizabeththird.tumblr.com/post/160703102265/hi-im-not-looking-to-start-drama-and-am-here-on
(screenshot, including timestamp of receipt)

-Dipshit on my blog in that exact same time frame? Check
-Not my ask but trying to pull the high ground with me about it anyway? Check
-âPlease consider the abuse victims!!1âł To a survivor? Check.
-Sending a really questionable anon in general? Check.
After my response saying that if I received any more messages I would reply with their URL, Serena got a message from Dipshit, complaining that I should apologise to their friendÂ
for blaming them for things Dipshit had done.

This earns the biggest of sighs and rolliest of eyes from me and there are hundreds of things I could say about it, such as the sheer unlikeliness of a random mysme blogger I have never heard of before (and incidentally never blocked) showing up to send me an ask with the precise same objections as Dipshit while Dipshit is on my blog, all while having no involvement with what Dipshit is doing. Even Dipshit acknowledged they were friends and went so far as to link their Zen centric blog.
They later post the following screens to their blog, which confirm that they sent theseÂ

asks to Stars and encouraged another person to send more: 1

Also. This is what a receipt for blocking looks like.
However, if a chat is whatâs going these days, hereâs a chat
between the mods of JuminZen weekÂ
discussing whether or not to blockÂ
Dipshit, drafting a response and discovering they were already blocked,Â
as forwarded to me by mariamagica <3
Iâm especially interested by the use of the word âdemoniseâ. Demonise only makes sense in terms of me addressing Dipshit and publishing their URL, neither of which have anything to do with their friendâŚwho up until that message was anonymous in this conversation.
User setthestarxonfire also receives two
https://setthestarsxnfire.tumblr.com/post/160705202992/hi-there-i-just-wanted-to-check-aside-from-any

asks about this in much the same vein with identical phrasing. (screenshot one) (screenshot two)
You may recall I referenced user capitolscum. That is the personal of mmscum, who I was also in touch with at this time. Through the reblogs of my Attn:-Mysme fandom post, I became aware that they too had received strange anons.
As it happened, Scum had received three anonymous asks. One

, Two

and Three

This coincides with this askÂ
and this response from Scum (part one and two)
It also prompted this chat (part one)(part two)

Iâm including this chat for the sole reason that this is how Dipshit described it post call out
Itâs unclear what exact fic Dipshit is referring to, though Scum believes the comment theyâre referring to is this one, on a fic exploring Zenâs recovery as a survivor of a traumatic incident prior to the first chapter.

Thereâs also this postÂ
https://mmscum.tumblr.com/post/160144676634/i-love-my-followers-but-this-is-the-first-time
addressing negativity in fandom (screenshot here),

to which Dipshit anon responded twice (one, two)Â

(links)
http://mmscum.tumblr.com/tagged/vallanoble
Iâm including this for the sheer ridiculousness of the fact that it happened two weeks ago and shows them discouraging their own behaviour.
Scum, post callout, received this review on the same fic

Considering both the linguistical patterns and the complaints both matched Dipshit, we did a bit of investigating and if this is a coincidence itâs a very unfortunate one. Â
And now we arrive at the 16th of May.
Void gets notifications from Dipshit
and their reactionÂ
speaks for itself.
Remember this?

Void is 17. Younger than Dipshit and a minor.
I haveÂ
multiple visitsÂ
fromÂ
Dipshit that day (Is it worth me even saying it at this point? Whatever)
Here is Mariamagicaâs traffic for that day (All of the ones from the university are Dipshit)
17th of May, today!
DipshitÂ

is activeÂ
on my blog and VoidâsÂ
(The one blacked out the most.)
Scum passes on their statcounter data to me and Dipshit is not only a visitorÂ
but recently went through the notes of this post
http://mmscum.tumblr.com/post/160736788924/mmscum-mmscum-i-love-my-followers-but-this-is
which somewhat ironically was partially inspired by their actions.
Considering this fact and the fact that they visit my blog in the wake of this reblog
http://fromthedeskofelizabeththird.tumblr.com/post/160765050395/fandom-commandments
(statcounter)

their subsequent blog post becomes slightly more interesting.

Itâs past midnight now and Iâm about to go to bed. I have only one thing to say on this matter, however.
The adage that the internet is not your safe space is not a suggestion that it should not be safe. It means that the internet is not the safe place of any individual person. It belongs to all of us and there is going to be opinions, ships, characters etc you do not like personally. But it is NO ONEâs job to keep you safe but your own. Itâs nobody elseâs responsibility to write characters as you see them. Itâs no one elseâs job to keep the content you donât like off your radar or create the content that you do. Thereâs no justification for treating real people badly over fictional things.
A few other notes post call out:-
Dipshit remains blocked. Here is a screenshot of a message they sent to me the day after I posted the call out (part one)
(part two)
from a new blog designed to collect receipts (this is not hyperbole: screen shot one

and two

). This blog has since been deleted. Â
I am not a shipper of Juzen and so bad behaviour within the community is not something I would know of immediately or in much depth, however:
Dipshit considers an anti Juzen week to educate the homophobic women who ship it.

This is an interesting one, as it coincides with the appearance of the blog juzenisgross, which specifically posted excerpts from Why does he do that (a book about abusive relationships and domestic violence) in the juzen tags on the first day of juzen week.
This is a loose thread on its own. However. This is the time stamp of the first post on the blog.

This is Dipshit on my blog.

Once again, possibly coincidence, but incredibly unfortunate if so.
Here is Dipshit continuing to send lengthy messages to content creators 1,

6,
7Â
along with her refusal to blacklist tags
