Hey, so you seem to be the the All Knowing in terms of twst. With Glorious Masquerade getting a rerun soon, I was looking at the cards.

So what the heck is up with Jamil's freaking hat? I'm sorry but I can't look at it without laughing. It looks so stupid. The closest thing I can think of that matches it is the combined crowns of upper and lower Egypt, but this is the equivalent of France so that can't be it.

While I’m flattered that people come to me with their questions, I want to take a moment to remind everyone that I’m just another TWST fan like you are! ^^ It’s stressful to be considered “all knowing” or a fandom authority 💦 That puts a lot of pressure on me to speak on certain subjects or to interact in a certain way (since people might put too much stock into what I say), and then that ends up detracting from my enjoyment. I’d rather not be put on such a high pedestal, please and thank you.

Now, onto the question!

According to Rollo in 1-13 of Glorious Masquerade, the costumes the NRC students were gifted are “patterned after designs that are over 500 years old.”

If we extrapolate this to real life, the implication is that these costumes have roots in Renaissance era (14th century to 17th century) French fashion. Interestingly, Rollo’s own hat is similar to a tricorne, which was primarily worn in the 18th century… so technically, his hat is more “modern” than what the NRC students wear 😂

So I browsed through records of hats from the indicated period and guess what? I couldn’t find an exact match—though I did find a lot of hat designs that I found way sillier than what the NRC boys have. Like… sorry, what is THAT 😭

Some headwear which bears a vague similarity to Jamil’s hat are the Egyptian combined/double crown (the pschent), which Anon has already mentioned, and the French hood, which was worn by women in the 15th century.

The actual closest match I came across was the mitre, a liturgical headdresses worn by Roman Catholic officials. If you look at it from the front, it doesn’t look like much, but it definitely has the height of Jamil’s hat. But then look closer and you’ll realize the mitre does not have one single flap of fabric, but rather two.

If you take the front flap of a mitre and fold it back, you would probably get something very similar to what Jamil wears. (Note that the black part of the hat is NOT his hair, but is fabric that is part of the hat.)

Considering that Noble Bell College is styled like a cathedral and that the Renaissance era from which the Masquerade Dress clothing derives is characterized by the rediscovery of classical literature, art, and philosophy… perhaps it’s not so strange to see a hat borne of religious associations.

… Why did Jamil specifically get this hat? Not sure, I’m not religious myself so don’t ask me to psychoanalyze him from that angle 😂

The golden part securing the front is unusual and does not appear in French fashion of the time (at least not from what I could tell?). It’s styled like pschent but more likely is meant to be turban-like due to Jamil’s inspiration, Jafar, having the same feather sticking up in the middle of a bulbous hat. You’ll notice Jamil had a “feather” too, albeit metal:

To summarize, I think the design of Masquerade Dress Jamil’s hat borrows from multiple inspirations and not just one/old French fashion. Yana has stated before in a March 2023 interview with the Apple App Store that the cultures of Twisted Wonderland are unique and that the clothing that appears in the game are not “reinterpretations of existing costumes”. She seems to incorporate elements from both high fashion and from a variety of cultures to arrive at the final designs. For example, there are elements of many Nordic cultures in the Apple Pom outfits, and the Pomefiore uniform has a Japanese kimono-like silhouette despite the dorm being based on the the Evil Queen (originating from a German tale). I assume something similar happened when designing the Masquerade Dresses; Yana and co. wanted to combine elements and make something of their own.

Final comment I'll make, the shape of Jamil's hat looks like a kind of dumpling... It makes me hungry.

Miyazaki said that the SoET was supposed to complete “The Elden Ring circle” and “honour GRRM’s contributions” by “focusing entirely on Miquella” 😭

When I heard about the DLC originally I was worried they were gonna make Miquella cheaply evil, because Fromsoft is allergic to positive divinity and good endings I guess. But looking at all the Miquella lore it would make just no sense, the best-worst outcome could’ve been Miquella corrupted by Mogh. They didn’t even make it an interesting evil. I have a friend who thought Miq was brainwashing ALL his followers, which thankfully isn’t the case. This is one of those “twists” or more “complex” endings where the straight forward route is a thousand times better. Isn’t us helping Miquella fix everything so much more interesting ? Miquella is supposed to be a parallel to Marika, isn’t it natural for us, tarnished warrior, to take up Godfry’s role? And not the out of nowhere larper. “Age of Compassion” is already set up as a name! Also as everyone said, Godwyn is just wasted! Why don’t we help Miq grant him a true death? Imagine the rotten, bulbous undead Godwyn as the final boss and act of mercy. Imagine if we could help Malenia too ughh. Who cares about Fia and her taking advantage of Godwyn’s remains.

By the way, do we get any mention of Miquella’s shadow? Or Fingers?? Good on the Dragon and Marika lore we love a nuances queen

I've been trying to avoid as many spoilers as possible, since the leaks ruined the build up and nearly everything for me, but from the people that I have been talking to they all say that Miquellas presence in the DLC is almost like an afterthought and his only major role is to be Radahns backpack in the final battle...

So basically I've been getting the impression that Miquella's entire development feels forsaken and pushed aside and that makes the final boss even more of a "Wait, what the fuck????" moment than it already is 😭 Even my bestie @marble-writes who is primarily a dragon slayer(go queen kill them all👏😂) and not much of a lore enthusiast said that Miquella's big twist felt so out of left field and lazy...

Back when the first trailer dropped I was literally frothing at the mouth at the idea of Miquella being our companion and guide, similar to Melina's role, through the Realm of Shadow. And it makes sense! Base-game lore built up Miquella as this kind, compassionate soul, so why wouldn't he be our friend? Why wouldn't he be our guide because, just like the promo said, we were being guided by him. And even if he didn't turn out to be a companion I at least expected him to be like Ranni in that he would be a major NPC and quest giver and we could interact with him and help him with whatever he needed help with...

But nope, just toss all that wonderful potential aside and make him the big-bad backpack and a dollar-store Serosh rip off :'(

I'm just... so devastated, especially after reading that article with Miyazaki saying that he wanted everything to go "full circle" when really it all just feels like a series of dashed lines that don't connect but vaguely form a circle. There's far too much missing to even really call it a cricle :(

AND GOD MIQ AND MALS SHADOWS!!!! I have not seen or heard anything about that so I am assuming that their shadows, the one that every empyrean is supposed to have, are ignored and forgotten just like Miquella's character development 😭 (and if im wrong and they are there dont tell me, i want to find and experience them for myself)

But still its yet another thing that is completely forgotten and leaves even more plot holes within SotE's lore and further erodes Elden Rings story as a whole 😭

I got this "skeleton" cat at the At Home store last week and ordered an "Oz The Great and Powerful" China Doll to hybrid. I had considered the Rainbow High white & grey bodies but really like the bigger form factor.

I've taken the head off the China Doll before and it is really on there. Screws, plastic weld, extra tabs, everything. I believe the best way to get it off is unfortunately to saw directly up from under her chin, then bend or break the flaps around the neck cone. I don't think there's a way to get her head off intact.

The "skeleton" (you see how I'm being here, with the quotes lol) was held together with roughly one million tiny screws. Which is baffling but also makes it great to take apart without breaking anything! And the inside of the head is accessible! And the tail comes off in one big piece and has an embedded wire for posing!!!

The tail has a bulbous rubbery loop at the base. I drilled a hole in the doll body, then squashed the heavenly fuck out of the rubbery loop shoving it through and into the hollow torso. So the tail is just the most perfect tight mod. It poses perfectly and swivels at the base too. I was chuffed with that.

You can see how I popped a safety pin around the cone neck fob. Holds the head on no problem!

I really needed this no-stakes project. I've been beating myself up over the Popples trying to make them perfect. So this one I was like, do whatever, it will be fine, have fun.

It would be nice if I could paint her head to match the body, and maybe paint the body details black instead of baby blue. But realtalk, I have had approximately 16 migraines in the past 19 days and I'm not optimistic about any project progress. 😅

It's my understanding that migraines commonly ramp up post covid, possibly for a year or more. Please don't expect anything outta me and I'll do my best to pleasantly surprise you 😂

For Eärwen - when did she learn to swim and to sail? What was her first boat like? Does she have her own ship - if so, what does she name it? How old was she when she first went to Sea? Did she teach her children to sail?

I've been thinking maybe she was born in middle earth, during their big migration and as a child learned to swim with Osse while uncle Thingol went missing. Which she would have also learned to be a shipwright and to sail then too. Probably somewhere around sevenish, whatever that is in elf ages xD

I need her first boat to have been a bulbous little ship, just big enough for her with one little sail, tipping back and forth in the water with no balance.

Her first real ship is probably like a 30 foot, open deck with a little covered nook in the front. Her first love~~ maybe she names it Horizon Chaser 😂 something a little flashy, could call it The Chaser for short.

"You sure about this?" He said with a light laugh. "Just hold me, please." You exhaled, moving closer to his chest to wrap an arm around him.

Bucky watched as you slept for a moment. Head laid against a pillow his bionic arm was under, arm draped over his waist and leg hooked over his. Wondering how that one sentence and a bold confession led to having his arm around you, fingers tracing the length of your spine.

Placing a kiss to your forehead, he gently leaned his chin on the top of your head. Warmth blooming in his chest when you cuddled in closer to his chest as he let himself finally fall asleep.

Bucky stopped in the doorway of your kitchen when he saw you reaching into one of the cabinets. The hem of his shirt lifting to show you weren't wearing underwear underneath.

"Coffee?" You smiled, taking a second mug out as he stood behind you. He nodded and wrapped his arms around you, kissing your cheek as you filled the two mugs. "How do you feel?"

"Little wobbly, but great. Did you sleep alright?"

"Amazing, actually. Can't remember the last time I slept that well- or had sex for that matter." Bucky chuckled as you turned to face him, your arms wrapping loosely around his neck. "I'm glad, Buck. Wanna help me make some breakfast?"

"Of course, babygirl." He smiled, pecking a kiss to your lips. "Maybe you can stay again? Felt nice having you here."

"Felt nice being here." His hands slipped under his shirt you wore, eyebrows furrowing when you winced slightly. "What's wrong?" He asked, lifting the hem to look at your hip. His heart twisting when he saw the bruises his fingers caused on your skin.
