It was starting to look ridiculous, and Tony seriously couldn’t take that little smirk anymore.

“So.” Tony started looking toward Bucky, and tapping nervously his foot on the floor.

“Mh?” Bucky mumbled not even caring to turn around, but never loosing that little smile.

“Would you at last turn around and look me in the eyes, when we speak?” Tony continued, feeling anger starting to build up, and his composure fall.

“Sorry doll.” Bucky finally said, turning around and lowering a little just to look into Tony eyes. “You need something?” Bucky asked, with the smile growing, and growing on his lips.

“Yes” Tony started, plastering a cold smile on his face, just before going to kick very hard Bucky in the balls, making the man double over with a painful grunt. “Now who is the one laughing?” Tony said, with a grin forming on his lips, before turning around and marching out of the living room, living Bucky crunched on the floor and a laughing Steve few step away seated comfy on the couch.

“What the hell Steve?” Bucky groaned, slowly moving toward Steve.

“He told you more then once Buck, but you don’t listen sometimes.” Steve said between a giggle and another.

“BUT THAT!!!” Bucky whined finally reaching the sofa, and flopping near Steve, pointing toward the door where Tony disappeared behind.

Silence.

“Steve?” Bucky turned his head toward his what so called friend, only to find him raising an eyebrow at him.”What?”

“Find it yourself” Steve announced before raising from the couch, closing the book he was reading and going to retrieve Tony and take him to bed. “I’m going to bed, and I don’t think Tony would want to see you for tonight.” With that final declaration, Steve just left with a big grin plastered on his face and a gloomy Bucky on the couch.

“Good luck with your hand” Steve whispered, just before turning the corner, dodging like that the tv remote.

Bucky tried, he really tried to talk to Tony to apologize because he knew that with the last one maybe he just stepped to forward, but everytime Jarvis or Steve stopped him.

“Tonyyyyyyyy” Bucky whined just outside the double door of the master bedroom, where Tony and Steve where sleeping. “Pleaseeeeeee” Bucky continued to whine, when a soft click signaled the opening of the door and a sleepy,  and very cute Tony appeared in front of him.

“Come in”. 

Said that, Tony wobbling moved back to the bed and flopped down rolling in the center opening his arm, while Steve just curled behind him, with a lazy smile on his face.

“Yes!” Bucky whispered, closing the door behind him and moving to the bed, where he just took his please in that beautiful picture.

“You are not forgiven.” Tony whispered, nuzzling Bucky pecks. “But this bed is too big and i missed you.” Ended, starting to snore and going back like that in the dream world.

“You need to thank me.” Steve equally sleepy voice reached his ears.

“Yeah, yeah” Bucky said finally relaxing. “Tomorrow, he is going to forgive me, and you are going to get your gold coin”.

“Tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow.”

Because right now he was happy, warm and loved again.

So when the dark-haired, pale-skinned man moved next door and things that had absolutely no business growing in the winter were flourishing – well, Anthony could only wonder with no small amount of dismay if the man was trying to get caught. Because the witch trials were in full force, and such displays were tantamount to death here.

Too bad the newcomer didn’t seem to give a fuck about that.

Befriending Tony Stark, Bruce decides, is rather like befriending a cat.

The man disappears for days at a time – business trips or lab binges – but he always comes wandering back, strolling into Bruce’s lab or the common areas, looking for company and attention.

A bored Tony Stark is dangerous to have around. He starts poking at things.

Mostly it’s harmless, if disruptive; but if tools and/or electronics are involved… best beware of explosions and black-outs.

So Bruce builds up a collection of Tony-friendly projects to distract him with. And if he finds himself actively seeking his lab partner’s company, well…

Befriending Tony Stark, Steve decides, is rather like befriending a cat.

Or, rather, trying to work with the man is like herding a cat. He’ll do what he wants when he wants to, and woe betide anyone who tries to make him do otherwise. Steve likes Tony, but it’s a nightmare working with him.

At his wits end, he finally asks Pepper how she managed so long.

Her answer is simple: Make him think it’s his idea. Stop pushing, and he will cooperate when it matters. Focus on his actions, not his words.

Steve is surprised how smoothly it works.

 Befriending Tony Stark, Natasha decides, is rather like befriending a cat.

He is wary and aloof and suspicious… but not above being bribed.

Not in the normal way, with money or favours, but with smaller things. By bringing a cup of coffee or a sandwich whenever she visits the workshop, gradually he comes to welcome her intrusion.

And he returns in kind, leaving little presents outside her room.

A jewelled hair clip that can be pulled apart into lockpicks. Her favourite chocolate-coated cherries. Directions to the bolt-hole of a mark that politics had forced SHIELD to release.

It’s… sweet, really.

Befriending Tony Stark, Clint decides, is rather like befriending a cat.

He’s a great guy to have around, but you never quite know when you’re going to run into one of his boundaries.

One moment they’re happily snarking, and the next his smile turns fake, his words cutting, and he’s making excuses to withdraw. Sometimes Clint can identify the trigger, but often it seems to be nothing, or something that was safe before.

Still, he persists. Learns how to read Tony and when to change the topic. And Tony responds; warning instead of striking, deflecting rather than retreating.

They adapt.

Befriending Tony Stark, Thor decides, is rather like befriending a cat.

While often prickly while awake, a sleepy Tony is shameless at seeking affection.

The common lounge is his favourite target. If you are watching a movie, or reading, or sketching, then at any moment a tired Tony might stumble into the room and curl up, half next to, half on top of you.

Sometimes, you find yourself gently scratching his scalp, or running your fingers through his hair, or stroking his back or arm.

And Tony hums in satisfaction, the sound almost a contented purr.

He is their Tony.

Tony is pissed.

He was already having a bad day, before the villain-of-the-week attacked.

Then, he had been separated from his suit. Then, he had been thrown into the river. Then, he gets back to the fight, and the other Avengers have been immobilised, and the villain is monologuing at them.

Tony snaps. With a scream of rage, he throws himself at the villain, clawing at their face with his nails.

In the end, it takes both Thor and Steve physically lifting him to get him off the cowering villain, fighting all the way.

How dare they attack his friends!
