Recently I’ve been obsessed with collecting all the English releases of Tomoko Taniguchi - I think I’m only missing one now, that I saw on eBay. Once I have them all and it’s a nice day I’ll make a post here. 😊

Reminiscing fondly about the first manga I ever read... It was a oneshot romance story titled Call Me Princess by Tomoko Taniguchi (<- I still like her stuff upon revisiting it; it's very fluffy and dated in a cute 90s way). I don't remember how it came into my possession, just that it was at my mom's house and I crammed myself into a back closet to read it. I'd love to have another copy... But I'm not buying any new hobby stuff until after my house renovations are done

[ ^ ] Princess Prince - Tomoko Taniguchi
My NEW All in one printer is here, with is beautiful flatbed scanner.
I tested out the printer way different from my other, still fiddling with that part.
Then I tested the scanner with one of my scan projects. Scanning my old, well loved , copy of Princess Prince.
So excited for this new printer. Maybe I'll actually get confident enough to sell sticker 😊

I was into manga style art before it became popular in the USA, but decided to move on to different areas of art to study many years ago. However, I did some professional assignments in manga style, like this classic shojo look cover for Call Me Princess, the manga by Tomoko Tanaguchi. This art is 22 years old!
I liked the classic shojo looks and storytelling styles like that of artist Riyoko Ikeda and Mineo Maya, but my focus pretty much begins and ends there. I prefer the 1970′s/1980′s era storytelling style in manga to a lot of contemporary work. Generally, I think the technique is more structured and dense. I still have my favorite classic manga on the bookshelf such as Rose of Versailles, Cypher, and Song of Wind and Trees.
I don’t know if I’ll go back to manga style again. I’ve got many years of work mapped out and have already decided where I will go with those projects. There are so many good artists doing manga style anyway, and I’m not sure I have anything to say about the shojo look in my art, except that I liked it and now I’m doing other things. I’m pursuing other areas now, particularly Golden Age Illustration and Bande Desinee.
I always liked Golden Age art and the era is my earliest influence, but there wasn’t a lot of space for it in American comics in my early career. I don’t think my technical skills were up to it back then, either.
If I like a style I will pick at it for awhile, but often abandon it later and move on to other things. I am going in so many other directions right now.

I hope you’ll check them out.

Hey, y'all! As you might know, I recently moved, downsizing to a smaller place. Unfortunately, that means I don’t have as much room to store my manga collection as I used to, so I’ve decided to sell some of the series that I don’t see myself ever having the desire to reread. What I don’t sell by the end of October will end up on eBay, but for now, you’re getting first dibs. If you’re interested, message me to let me know. (Sorry, the offer is only available to those living in the U.S. All shipping will be media mail through USPS and the shipping cost is already included in the price. Only Paypal accepted.)
A lot of these I bought secondhand myself, so they’ve had at least one other previous owner. I’ll mark those with an *. Most are still in pretty good condition, though, and all series are complete other than “Suppli”, which was cancelled in English before completion. I didn’t post pictures of all these, but I’ll be happy to provide them on request.
Cherry Juice by Haruka Fukushima - 4 Vols. $24
Confidential Confessions by Reiko Momochi - 6 Vols. * $22
Forbidden Dance by Hinako Ashihara - 4 Vols. * (I think I bought this secondhand, but I’m not positive.) $20
Guru Guru Pon-chan - 9 Vols. * $40
Kiss of the Rose Princess by Aya Shouto - 9 Vols. $50
Land of the Blindfolded by Sakura Tsukuba - 9 Vols. * $40
Lament of the Lamb by Kei Toume - 7 Vols. $40
Only One Wish by Mia Ikumi - 1 Vol. $7
Planet Ladder by Yuri Narushima - 7 Vols. * $30
Rah-Xephon by Yutaka Izubuchi and Takeaki Momose - 3 Vols. $13
Red-Colored Elegy (2018 ed.) by Seiichi Hayashi - 1 Vol. $15
Suppli by Mari Okazaki - 5 Vols. (Just four books, though. The last combines 4 & 5.) $22
Tomoko Taniguchi Collection - This is a collection of mostly one-shot manga by the same author. The included titles are “Let’s Stay Together Forever”, “Miss Me?”, “Aquarium”, “Popcorn Romance”, “Just a Girl” (2 Vols.), and “Call Me Princess”. “Call Me Princess” comes in hardback and is a former library copy. The rest I bought brand new. $30
W Juliet by Emura - 14 Vols. * $80
Wild Ones by Kiyo Fujiwara - 10 Vols. * $40
Prices are negotiable, within reason!
Feel free to reblog!

Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance (Kenji Misumi, 1972) Cast: Tomisaburo Wakayama, Fumio Watanabe, Go Kato, Tomoko Mayama, Yuko Hama, Shigero Tsuyuguchi, Asao Uchida, Taketoshi Naito, Yoshi Kato, Azami Ogami, Akihiro Tomikawa. Screenplay: Kazuo Koike, Goseki Kojima. Cinematography: Chikashi Makiura. Art direction: Akira Naito. Film editing: Toshio Taniguchi. Music: Eiken Sakurai, Hideaki Sakurai. The Lone Wolf and Cub series, of which Sword of Vengeance is the first, has something in common with the Zatoichi films, such as Zatoichi and the Chest of Gold (Kazuo Ikehiro, 1964) and Kenji Misumi's own The Tale of Zatoichi (1962): They're about handicapped warriors traveling through hostile territory. Zatoichi is blind, whereas Ogami Itto is simply encumbered with a small child, his son. Yet somehow they beat the odds, fighting off whole armies out to get them. It's a good premise, made more suspenseful in the Lone Wolf films because we naturally don't want to see small children put in harm's way. Which Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance does from the very outset, in which Ogami, the official executioner, is forced to behead an infant, setting up the plot which leads him into a very real hell. Ogami is an intriguing character, which helped me put up with the somewhat routine villainy and violence of the film.

Majimuri Gakuen Plot

I’ve got such a soft spot for Tomoko Taniguchi’s work, because Call Me Princess and another standalone, Princess Prince were the first manga I can remember reading. Taller and wider than a modern manga, flipped to read left-to-right as was common in the 90s, with no translation notes, they were visually striking, so different than the other comics I could find while visiting my grandmother’s town’s small library as a kid.
