That time when @aries0028 and I queued for our noodle-fix from A Noodle Story. While the younger man passed on the bowl of noodle to the older man who was tending to the clients, I can't help but notice how he took a serviette and wiped the sides of the bowl clean, before placing it on the tray for his patron to enjoy the bowl of noodle. (latepost) dragged @jeff_frej2007 to find this Nasi Lemak Burger at @mcdonalds and because I just wanted to try, we bought one to share. Growing up in Singapore, Nasi Lemak was a familiar Sunday breakfast when our helpers would go to the market and buy them for us for breakfast... and this burger really does deliver the Singapore-style Nasi Lemak that we're so familiar with, oily coconut-milk fried chicken with its skin and crispy batter, topped with sweet and spicy sambal sauce, a fried egg (coz nasi lemak always comes with egg) and instead of lettuce, 2 slices of cucumber have been slipped into this burger for more crunchy coolness... biting into this burger really brings me back to life back in the 80s when we were brought up in Singapore then. Glad that Jeff likes it too! I had to wash this doen with their Bandung McFizz, if u live in Singapore you would be familiar with the pinky rose coloured milk drink which the McDonald's version seems like rose syrup mixed in with Sprite. Just a few of #todayihad moments... I remember last time we walked all the way to this little tea place, it was closed! Had to make a day trip to SG accompanying Mom to see the docs and when we touched down we just went straight to this prawn mee place. I thought if we’re going to be late for our doctor’s appointment due to lunch, I’d just call em up and say our flight got delayed. I ordered the $8 dollars one, came with more prawns and asked for dry one, only to realise I actually prefered the soupy one, so I just poured all my side soup into the bowl. dinner thanks to @aries0028 for the treat. One of those coffee-shop houses that serves zhi char style dinner and we really enjoyed the coffee-rubbed pork ribs which was both sweet, succulent and flavoursome thanks to the coffee marinade... The petai dish was a real surprise because one don’t tend to find petai served in restaurant often in Singapore and it didn’t help when our hosts asked us if we wanted “pad-thai” and so when this came, we realised he meant petai instead. I love the sliced fish hor fun which was full of beansprouts and fried so casually just with spring onions, and eaten with a dash of soy and those green chilli 😋 thank u so much Kelvin. Definitely a food coma evening... (not in picture but oh-so-yummy were the salted egg fish skin (best I’ve ever eaten by far! Oh-so-yummy ramen from @kajiken_singapore thanks to @nairda68 who took us there. Seems like everyone’s going ga-ga over the soupless kind of ramen with minced pork, nori, lots of negi and an onsen-tamago which ties all these ingredients together. We have a few in Jakarta already but this one in Singapore IS REALLY GOOD! and after finishing the whole bowl, they’d even offer you a small dollop of rice to mix with the left over gravy and condiments so everything will be finished off your bowl cleanly! Small tiny place this restaurant is though, so be prepared to queue during peak times. We got lucky, no queue when we got there! an unexpected surprising dinner last night at the lovely @cornerhousesg hidden in the middle of luscious Botanical Gardens. My two dinner companion had secretly arranged this dinner prior to our trip here and yesterday they both mentioned wanting to dine at the Botanical Gardens so I just went along. It was an absolutely unforgettable evening of laughter, great conversation and lovely food in an intimate setting but somehow, a dismal display of service from the maître d'... I'm usually non-fussy about service but when my two dinner companions mentioned it to me on our way back to the hotel, I realised I wasn't just feeling sensitive about this. Perhaps we didn't order wine, perhaps we were underdressed for such establisment, but anyways nothing will take away the lovely time I had with these two great people on our table. So I was at the docs in Singapore over the weekend to have a full body check-up, you know, the heart, cholestrol, lungs, urine and all, and the doctor asked me, "So what sports activity do you normally?", I felt so cornered coz I have stopped playing tennis for a while and so I replied, "I eat! 7x a week, 2x a day..." and the doctor just laughed! dinner at Long Ji coz @popo.joyce said the crab bee hoon was so good! True to her words, the bee hoon was so tasty, swimming in a bowl of brown broth (I know that sounds disgusting) but the flavour was so sweet and umami, I literally served myself 4 portions of this dish, and enjoyed it with pickled green cut chillis!
