Ciara Baptiste Submission for @oatberrytea's Ofelia🌻
The Basics: -> Human; She/Her -> Pansexual -> Currently lives in Britechester as she just graduated from university! -> Young Adult (irl around 26 y.o.)
Details below the cut! ↓
Ciara's traits are: Cheerful, Clumsy, Bookworm, Socially Awkward, and Genius (two of those are from the "self discovery" feature, but I can't remember which ones!)
-> Her current aspiration is: Eco Innovator! Additionally, she completed the Academic aspiration, gaining the "Higher Education" trait!
-> Education: Has two prestigious degrees with honors from Foxbury Institute (Communications and Computer Science).
-> Her likes include: Spring, pastel color palettes: especially the colors yellow, pink, blue, and purple. She likes romantic, pop, and soul music. She loves engaging in Silly behavior, giving (and receiving) compliments, discussing interests, physical intimacy, flirting, and a little bit of what she calls "harmless" gossiping (specifically about silly stuff like the royal family or pop culture in general). She gravitates toward idealist and funny sims, but more than anything her favorite kind of sims are family-motivated sims. It was really just her and her dad growing up, so she wants to have a family of her own and is looking for a partner who wants a big, beautiful, fun family, as well! Her hobbies include robotics, research and debate, handiness, programming, wellness, baking, and knitting. She also enjoys acting and singing, even though she does both of those things quite poorly (that doesn't stop her, lol).
-> Her dislikes include: The "color" grey - she would argue that grey is definitely not a color, and she sees waaaay too much of it in the math and science field. She likes most genres of music, but Metal music is an absolute no-go and she is kind of a scaredy-cat who prefers the "cute" side of Halloween, so spooky music is also out. She doesn't tend to run in the same spaces as high-energy sims: she was not gifted in the athletics department and hates fitness activities, skiing, rock climbing, and snowboarding. However, she dislikes egotistical and argumentative sims the most! As a cheerful, optimistic sim she doesn't like conversations focused on complaints, pranks, arguments, potty humor, or malicious interactions.
-> Some fun facts include: Ciara was a happy infant and toddler, an only child who grew up in the spice market area of San Myshuno and was raised by a loving, generous single dad who she's still extremely close to. Her dad worked in nonprofits and charity work, always encouraging her to advocate for others, give back to their community, and be compassionate. Her mom passed away when she was only a year old, but her dad has done a solid job at keeping her memory alive. Ciara is half Japanese (her mother's side) and half Trinidadian/Tobagonian (on her father's side).
As soon as she could hold a hammer and power up a computer, she put her natural ingenuity to the test time and time again. Even though her unquenchable curiosity did lead to some small apartment fires, a few broken appliances, and a beaker explosion from time to time, she ultimately completed the Creative Genius aspiration and gained the "Idea Person" trait. That being said, she has always had a strong sense of purpose, wanting to put that perfect combination of smarts and creativity to work: that's why she decided she would dedicate her life to inventing and ultimately helping better the environment when she was around 12 years old.
High School came with a plethora of social challenges for Ciara: even though she was (and still is) extremely bubbly and bafflingly smart, she sometimes had trouble relating to people her age and understanding social expectations. Some kids picked on her for being too nerdy or too involved in class, others found her too talkative and "annoying," assuming her curious nature and positive attitude must be "fake." (Honestly, she was just neuro-divergent and didn't know it yet! She, in my opinion, didn't get evaluated by a profession until she was out of highschool and would ultimately be diagnosed as a combo of autism - toward the "high functioning" end - and ADHD). She found herself hanging out in teacher's classrooms more than not, usually not invited to big parties and doing her best to avoid social events like Prom as much as possible. However, she did have a small group of good friends, fortunately... so it definitely wasn't all bad! (She even went to the same college and was roommates with one of them!) Because she poured most of her free time into extracurriculars and schoolwork, she graduated at the top of her class and was given the honor of valedictorian!
Although she grew up in the city, she's 100% not attached to city living! She would love living somewhere with fresh air and lots of sunshine, especially if that meant she would have extra space to tinker and brainstorm! Plus, as an environmental enthusiast and "Civil Designer," she cares about inventing and finding affordable, healthy, safe innovations that work for all kinds of communities: that's a job she can do from anywhere!
Ciara never backs down from a challenge, but potentially competing for love might be the scariest one she's faced yet. She has never had a serious relationship and has never actually been in love, even though she eagerly puts her heart on her sleeve and has come close before. Could Ofelia be her soulmate? Ciara has crunched the numbers, and the stats say there's a slim chance: a 20% chance of success and an 80% chance at heartbreak, to be exact...
but that's a risk she's just might be willing to take. ❤️
Private DL if chosen!
#I hope you like her! <3 Regardless I'm so excited to see your Bachelorette challenge!!#sunflowerbc#ts4 bachelorette challenge#sim submission#oatberrytea#simblr#ts4#Ciara Baptiste#oc: Ciara#the sims 4#the sims community#my ocs#sims 4

Carrebeean, Here we are!!!
As I said before: 5783 nautical miles we sailed towards this little paradise where we are still on quarantine anchorage. Waiting on the PCR result is always making me a bit nervous, especially this time. If we are tested negative, we have the chance here in Grenada to get the AstraZeneca vaccines and we will travel much freer than we do now.
But no boredom: a little leak in the hand wash basin, try to clean the mud off ELITSHA, friends and family to speak to, small other repairs, taking the lead in UBUNTU again since we have full and unlimited internet on board, planning and booking Zora’s and Su’s tickets towards us, baking bread again and of course swimming and snorkelling.
But let me talk first a little bit about Suriname and our short sail to Grenada. Suriname was for a long time a Dutch colony. Since 1975, this country is the smallest independent state in South America. The previous president unfortunately abused his power and all the resources the beautiful country has, for example gold, aluminium, oil, bananas got exported unwisely and the profit went into the presidents and his friend’s pockets. That is what Surinamers were telling us. In the meantime, there is a new president, but there is Corona as well. The ECO tourism, Suriname was good and well known for, stands still and the country is in a bad state and shape. At the banks of the Suriname river, entering Suriname, you see big and then I mean really big villas. According to the locals they belong to friends of the former president and to drug lords. A very familiar story to us South Africans. The Netherlands is still involved and helps where they can, but a few days after we left Suriname they closed the country: total lockdown. Just above 500 000 people live in Suriname and most of them in and close to Paramaribo. People are currently getting infected and dying in huge numbers from Corona: not enough hospital beds, not enough vaccinations, not enough oxygen……… not enough doctors and nurses. Their rainy season is terrible this year due to the ELNino effect and its really tuff for the poor population. After a good week in the Marina and a road trip through the rural part of the country to a big dam where people are searching for gold, visiting banana plantations, visiting Paramaribo with a lot of rain we said goodbye to the populated part of Suriname together with Elitsha and we sailed into the Commewijne river. This was so romantic and special. The jaguars, caiman and anacondas were too scared of us, hahahahha. We did not see them, but we heard and enjoyed the voices of the jungle, saw and heard millions of birds, parrots and all kind of other noises. It was magical. Three days we were totally one with nature, did not see any human being, together with Elitsha.
Coming back from Commewijne river was coming back to happy reggae life. Looking for a spot ashore to get our dingy on board for the trip to Grenada, a fisher of New Amsterdam waved us to come next to his fisher boat. Loud reggae music and a very friendly crew invited us for coffee, tea and biscuits……….and dagga and rum………..Unfortunately, we had to say thank you no (dagga and rum out of question, of course). The threat of getting infected just before we go back to sea again for a couple of days made us kindly refusing the offer. Even though we chatted a while with them and they helped us to get the dingy motor on board. And that’s how Surinamers are, chatty, always happy to assist and help, curious and interested about who you are. As I mentioned before people told us in advanced, that coming to South or Central America or the Caribbean with a South African flag would ask for problems. That was one of the reasons why we registered Elitsha in Germany. But we always say that we are from Cape Town, we don’t hide that and up to now we had no bad experiences. People are impressed that we come from that far to visit their small country and want to know if we like it. They loved the fact that we speak Dutch, because Dutch is still the first language in Suriname. Anyway, after chatting to the fishermen, we tied everything nicely, slept a short night and left New Amsterdam and Suriname at 6 am on the 25th of May.
Aware of the thread of Venezuelan pirates (Surinamers and NOON site (cruiser website) informed us about it), we sailed at a safe distance from the coast. Even though we choose to pass trough the Galleon’s passage between Trinidad and Tobago, but we choose to pass it close to the Tobago side, away of the Venezuelan coast. On our way we saw a fair number of oil platforms, huge ones, with huge flames, we could see from far. This was also a bit spooky. We had 35 to 40 knots of wind and a good speed to leave the oil area and the Galleon’s passage behind us. I think, pirates do not like rain. We had tons of rain and no pirates though……..although: Dick told me later, that 40 miles out of both coasts, the Grenadian and the Tobagonian, a fast open boat with 3 men in it sped past us. We think they were checking us out, how rich we are. The stretch between Tobago and Grenada apparently is also declared as an unsafe area. That is what we heard later when we arrived in Grenada. Our neigor, Steve, always has a gun with him. Happily, with enough wind and a strong currant we passed Tobago at 4:30 in the morning and arrived safely in Grenada at 17:00 on the 28th of May.
Close to the harbour at the quarantine anchorage we spoke to our South African friends of the Aventura, a young couple with 2 dogs and his parents on their way to emigrate to Panama. We saw them in every harbour we visited up to now. They left Suriname a few days earlier then we did. They craved for blue water and thought jaguar, caiman and anaconda would perhaps love their dogs too much. In any way, nice to see them again. They explained the Grenadian procedures to us and on Saturday we went ashore to register with the health department. We inhaled the positive and relaxed Grenadian vibe immediately: steel drum music from the taverns, people on the streets, Corona is almost dealt with.
And in the meantime, 1 week in St George, we are declared negative and are allowed to explore the island. Paul, a registered tour guide grabbed his chance. Slandering around the harbour he almost forced us to have a tour with him. The cruise ships are missed by restaurants, tour guides…not by us. Paul told us, that they on “good” days had 6000 tourists from cruise ships ashore. Dick and I were quite happy to escape these “good“ days. Pity for Paul, that’s why we went with him on a long trip through St. George at noon and let him earn some ECDs. Hot and up and down, I was exhausted at the end. We didn’t walk much for the last 2 months at least..
Grenada is the spice island: nutmeg, gloves, cinnamon, and other spices grow here. They have a golden waterfall and many more attractions. We will explore them all and share with you. For now, we experienced the spicy side of the island by drinking shandies with nutmeg, eating ice cream with nutmeg and gloves and some other weird things you would think its really ugg, but in reality it’s absolutely amazing.
We are registered for Astra Zeneca vaccination and yes, we are in a marina with a nice club house and WIFI and not on anchorage or at a mooring buoy. For the first time in almost 3 months, I am able to go and stay where I want on my own. For somebody like me, who likes her independence, its heaven. Opposite of our little paradise, there is another marina, posh and expensive and not really our style. Elitsha, would feel a bit lonely between all the posh-million dollar-yachts. I don’t know, if I mentioned before, that a lot of other cruisers, have fancy and well-equipped boats with freezers, bread baking automates, washing machine, water cooker……. you name it. Our only luxury is a fridge, a BBQ and a good stove with oven, cosy and exactly what we need no more and no less. Anyway, Elitsha got a good clean-up. Sticky, a local guy, Dick and I made her looking pretty again. The water of the Suriname river was dirty through mud and chemicals, they use for the gold extraction industry, we learned. And this was very difficult to get off the hull-0987654Qasdfuiop[.
My home office is in the marina’s clubhouse, with more than brilliant views! Unfortunately, UBUNTU for Africa’s operations manager, who took over financials and admin of the NGO from me, resigned a few days ago. That’s why I am back on the job and working every day for an hour or 3. Alene Edson Smith, local social worker, who was already involved in the family program and took over my job at Kronendal Primary, is doing the hands-on jobs, where you have to be involved personally onsite, like team meetings, meetings with principals etc. For now, we won’t have stretches which will take more than 3 days and we have internet and WIFI. No problem to work though. I love my work as much as I love cruising. To combine both is absolutely great.
For the rest the NGO is in good hands, with our after-care team, Barbara Heye, who is mentor to a single mother with 3 kids. And as I mentioned before Alene Edson Smith, well known in the valley through her involvement through her own NGO, Serenity, took over the reins at Kronendal Primary from me and is mentor to 5 families in our NGO. We share the lead of UBUNTU for Africa. What I can do, I will do, where personal presence is needed, Alene will be hands on. She will lead the sound and music studio, which will release their first CD soon. Lelo managed to get 2 new volunteers into this project, for marimba and music production. Ricardo will remain taking the lead on Silikamva side and Alene will have a firm look and hand on the project.
After care is just running. Andiswa and her team also get support from Alene. But this team of 5 is just doing what they can do best: love our children and supervise, support, teach them and make sure that they are safe.
Questions for the kids:
1. How many kilometres did we sail from Cape Town to Grenada?
2. Which language do the people speak in Suriname?
3. What kind of currency do we used in Suriname and which one in Grenada?
4. Please explain, what the modern pirates of the Caribbean are up to.
5. What is the name of the small entrance to the Caribbean between Trinidad and Tobago?
Sponsor sail:
For the ones who want to take part in our sponsor sail: We have sailed 1812 nautical miles. You can donate a cent, a Rand, a Euro or whatever per nautical mile. We are sailing for these amazing schools: every nautical mile and each Rand counts. To UBUNTU for Africa,German NGO.
The money will go to the UBUNTU for Africa projects: after care at Hout Bay Primary School and the music project at Silikamva High School. This organisation I started 12 years ago (www.ubuntuforafrica.com) Of course, you will receive a tax certificate.

I don't know which ones you've done yet, lol. But, how about: 8, 14, 18, 19, and 26?
8. do you get confused with other nationalities? if so, which ones and by whom?
fucking jamaican, by white people who clearly dont know what jamaican people sound like because trinidadians sound nothing like fucking jamaicans
14. do you enjoy your country’s cinema and/or TV?
i don’t think we have much of a national cinema and i’ve only seen like... little mini films and not big screen titles. however we are fuckin hilarious in terms of comedy shows
18. do you speak with a dialect of your native language?
well the thing is we don’t speak anything other than english, and i always gotta roll my eyes when some kinda well meaning white says ‘oh your english is so good’ before i even clarify where i’m from
but we do have accents, sometimes very thick ones, and i know foreigners kind of got used to calling it patois but idk i always hesitate to call it that because my granny said that her grandparents and parents used to speak in patois and even she wouldn’t understand what the fuck they were saying and they’d never translate themselves for her even though it was a very muddled english. so she never learned that raw version of patois so i always hesitate to conflate the two
19. do you like your country’s flag and/or emblem? what about the national anthem?
oh our flag is simple but i used to have trouble drawing it in primary school because i’m left-right inept lmao. national anthem is pretty chill — we used to have to stand outside in the baking hot sun before junior-secondary (?) school and sing it and there was a PE teacher who would pinch our legs if we faked singing it
26. does your nationality get portrayed in Hollywood/American media? what do you think about the portrayal?
god we barely ever get portrayed at all tbh the last time i heard about a trinidadian in a semi-popular show was in she’s gotta have it and it was pretty neat and i’d love to see us more on the big screen
oh but m’baku is fucking trinidadian/tobagonian so fucking god bless that big man (if u wanna hear my accent just go watch whatever video you can find of him speaking it during an interview i love him)

Do you have information on Trinidadian and tobagonian folkore?
hey love! I do not, but I do have some sources I combed over. I’m going to read up on it myself since I’m not versed in this subject. However, a majority of the folklore seems to be a mixture of cultures (through colonialism unfortunately). With that, there’s undertones of african, french, and british folklore. There is also some common themes amongst other carribean folktales as well.

A/N: So here I am once again, giving you all another unnecessary one-shot that’s coming out before an At First Glance chapter. I literally cannot write this specific chapter and it’s driving me up a wall. It’ll be out one of these days, I promise. Until then, let’s stan some present-day Yaa and Wins! Also, special shouts to @maya-leche for inspiring this fic.
Warning: Cotton candy Fluff, Black Love, A Black King worshipping his Black Queen
Word Count: ~1.5K
This Saturday morning was unusual for you and Winston. Winston got up before you did, which was especially strange given that you were the early riser on Saturday mornings. You were the one being cuddled to sleep; you rested half of your head on your silk-covered pillow and the other half on your fiance’s chest. All of that room in his California king bed and y’all chose to cuddle up on each other. Your short arms cuddled around his waist like a child holding on to their favorite stuffed animal. Well, he was your favorite stuffed animal.
You were the highlight of his morning every morning. He made sure to observe every single detail of his Pumpkin; your caramel-hued skin, your perfectly arched eyebrows, your sweet scent, and the glow that radiated from your face. He took in all of your sleeping beauty, even the loud snoring, light drooling, and open mouth. To Winston, everything about you was beautiful. God had truly blessed him with an angel--a loud, outgoing, bold, funny, and sweet angel.
He looked at you and realized that he should treat you today. After all, you’d been helping everyone but yourself. He gently placed you back on your side of the bed and kissed you on your forehead before heading to his master bathroom.
He made a beeline to your hair drawer. You’d managed to keep the same things you had in your D.C. bathroom in his California bathroom. Watching you do locs after all of these years and watching other people on YouTube do their locs made him feel like he was your loctician. His face lit up the moment he found all of your Wash Day staples. She deserves this.
He kissed you out of your sleep. You chuckled as you stirred from your long slumber. “C’mon, Pumpkin, time to get up. This Wash Day isn’t going to start on its own.”, Winston cooed. Your sleepy eyes were greeted by your favorite Tobagonian tree, your Winnie the Duke. “Good morning, my Winnie.”, you said sweetly. Unlike Winston, your morning voice was a good two octaves higher than your already sweet and melodic voice. He looked into your light brown orbs with admiration and awe. “Thank you for the reminder about Wash Day”, you said as you began to get out of the bed.
Winston almost immediately stopped you from moving. “Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, Pumpkin! Where are you going?”, Winston questioned. You gave your fiance a stern and threatening look. You reluctantly returned to bed, arms crossed and attitude on 11.
Winston shuffled back to the bathroom. He closed the sliding doors enough to leave a small crack for your viewing pleasure. There was enough scooting and crashing going on in there for you to get up, but you decided not to act on your impulse. After all, you’d ruined many a surprise tryna be nosy, so there was no point of ruining this one.
After what seemed like forever, Winston emerged from the bathroom visibly out of breath. “Alright, Dr. Duke, are you ready for the Wash Day experience of a lifetime?”, Winston eagerly inquired. He was practically gushing with excitement and yet you looked at him with a twisted face of genuine confusion. “Why are you so excited about my Wash Day, Duke?”, you asked, keeping the same confused look on your face. You got out of bed once more and Winston enthusiastically led you to the bathroom the same way you usually led him into Sephora, Whole Foods, or Target.
You look around and see that Winston has turned the master bathroom into a pop-up salon. Your hair drawer is out in the middle of the bathroom with your hair clips and loc gel on top of the drawer. There was a stool in the tub, along with your DIY shampoo, moisturizers, and hair oils bordering the tub. You noticed your old t-shirt that you dried your hair off with.
You turned around to see a now shirtless Winston smiling from ear to ear. “Well...uh...I-uh...decided to treat you today by uh...doing your locs today. Consider me your own Celeste today.”, Winston said nervously. No matter how much he was around you, Winston still managed to become sorta bashful, which you never understood why. You found yourself giggling like a schoolgirl.
“What did I do to fucking deserve you, Winston Christopher? I really get to marry you?!”, you squealed into his chest as you hugged your tree of a fiance. You looked up to gaze into his coffee-colored orbs with full adoration. He wiped the stray tears that managed to escape your eyes. The vibrations of his hearty laugh and the kiss he placed on top of your head made you warm on the inside. He finally broke the silence, “ Stop asking so many questions, my love. You’ve been working nonstop since October. You do realize that your partners had to *force* you to finally take your vacations days in September, right? Besides, with the Sheimbloom and now the wedding coming up, your summer’s been a little busy. So please, let me cater to my Pumpkin today.”
As much as you didn’t want to admit it, Winston was right. You’d been working like a maniac since October, working on cases and speaking at many events on many platforms. You did take a break during major holidays, but you didn’t get a trip unless it was a business trip. You had been grinding for the Sheimbloom award and now that you’d finally won, you needed to be catered to.
You rolled your eyes at Winston. “Sure. You bet not fuck my shits up either. I will drop your ass like a bad call.”, you warned. Once more, Winston’s face lit up and he quickly led you to the tub and sat on the stool in the tub. After you situated yourself between his legs, he poured warm water over your head, beginning the hair ritual.
His heavy yet steady hands gently massaged your scalp and combed through the length of your locs. He was in a zone. The two of you conversed about locations for the wedding as he applied the scalp cleanser in a second time.
“--I was thinking either Martha’s Vineyard or New Orleans.”, you presented.
“Why those places, sis?”, he asked in a higher-pitched. He was in full hairdresser mode, which made you not take the conversation serious anymore.
“Well, Martha’s Vineyard because I like the idea of having a small, black-tie wedding. New Orleans because obviously my folks are there and that’s where you and I truly fell in love with each other. We were in love with the thought of each other, but it wasn’t until that night that we realized we were in love. New Orleans will always have a special place in my heart thanks to you.”, you replied sweetly. You could sense he was processing what you had just said by the way he stopped massaging your head. You looked up to see Winston in la la land smirking. “Aye, nigga, I ain’t got all day. You about to be fired on your first day.”, you growled through your teeth as you nudged his knee.
His head fell back in laughter. “I’m sorry, love. I must’ve been too deep in thought.”
“MUST HAVE BEEN?!” You clicked your teeth and shot him a look of disgust, “I’m not about to argue with you.”
He finally washed out your scalp cleanser and dried your hair with an old t-shirt (he learned that from YouTube). He helped you out of the tub and on back to the bedroom, hair drawer in tow. “Alright..”, he began, “...let’s get this mane together, shall we?” He sectioned your hair off and went to work integrating the new growth into the remainder of each loc. Your seven-year loc journey was paying off with your hair now falling halfway down your back. The sensation of Winston palm-rolling your locs and clipping your roots was therapeutic, considering that you weren’t doing it this time.
The two of you conversed about everything as your hair air dried. “Now I have to say, Wins, from what I can feel, you did a terrific job. Chantay, you stay!”, you exclaimed. You turned around to see Winston showing off that beautiful gap in a cocky grin and even cockier laugh. “Well you know, I do what I can...especially for my favorite girl.”, he remarked. You rolled your eyes in pure disgust, “Whatever, nigga.”
After being under the dryer, the two of you spent the remainder of the day drinking wine and watching The Golden Girls, a mutual hit in the Abdullah-Duke households. You were sitting on the couch sitting under one leg and the other leg in Winston’s lap. The two of you laughed uncontrollably at the antics of your favorite four old white women.
Winston stared at you as you lit up whenever you cackled. He’d been noticing a glow around you for a few weeks now. Something was off, not a bad off, but something was out of the ordinary with you. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but whatever it was could wait. He pulled you into his lap and showered you with kisses. “I love you so much, Yaa Denae.” You looked into his eyes and kissed his lips and chubby ass cheeks, “I love you too, Celeste.” Before you could jump out of his grasp, he pushed you out of his lap and tried to contain his annoyed laughter, “GOODBYE, DENAE!”

Video For Single “Far From Home” Now Streaming Via YouTube
The Tobagonian singer Calypso Rose announced today her partnership with Mad Decent, who will release a collection of remixes of Rose’s international hit “Leave Me Alone,” on July 28. The track comes from her latest album, Far From Home, which achieved massive success in Europe upon its release in 2016, going platinum in France, and earning her the Victoires de la Musique (French Grammy) for World Music Album of the Year, and title of Womex Artist of the Year. Mad Decent will release the album in North America later this year. Rose and her band will play Stage 48 in New York on August 30, and the Ohana Festival in Los Angeles on September 10.
“Leave Me Alone” has garnered nearly 3 million views on YouTube and is topping the charts in Trinidad. The song has become an anthem for a movement in Trinidad called #LeaveSheAlone, which aims to bring attention to the culture of sexual assault, domestic violence and harassment that is pervasive during Carnival. Outlets including the Washington Post and Slate have profiled the movement.
As something of a cultural ambassador for Tobago, Rose sat down with Anthony Bourdain for a recently aired episode of his CNN show, “Parts Unknown.” The two discussed Rose’s life, recording career and connection to the island.
Rose has enjoyed a long and celebrated career as the matriarch of the genre from which she takes her name. She’s released around 20 albums, has collaborated with artists including Bob Marley & The Wailers, won the prestigious Calypso King” competition enough times that they renamed it the gender neutral “Calypso Monarch” in her honor, and has been the recipient of countless awards, including the International Caribbean Music Award’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The New York Times has praised her “deeply authoritative, irresistibly buoyant take on calypso,” and The Fader writes, “At 76, the calypso legend still hasn’t lost the pulse of the party.”
Born McCartha Linda Lewis in Bethel, a small village on the island of Tobago, Rose was the daughter of a Baptist preacher who thoroughly opposed to her pursuing a musical career. Never one to simply follow orders, she composed her first song at the age of 13 and began performing around Trinidad and Tobago under the name Crusoe Kid, and later as Calypso Rose. She spent 17 years singing on cruise ships for the New York-based company Celebration At Sea, eventually graduating to the legendary stages of the Apollo Theater and Madison Square Garden to perform with two of the greatest Calypso artists: Lord Kitchener and Mighty Sparrow. A fighter her whole life through, Rose has survived sexual assault, cancer and two heart attacks, and has disrupted the established order of Calypso, which until her arrival was dominated by men. Only those who have overcome such hardships can sing life not only with such force, but also with such pleasure.

DaMajority Fresh Article https://www.damajority.com/our-top-5-female-caribbean-recording-artiste-in-2018/
Our TOP 5 Female Caribbean Recording Artiste in 2018
Our TOP 5 Female Caribbean Recording Artiste in 2018
The Caribbean is blessed with some of the most talented women in music industry. Today we feature five of our favorite female Caribbean recording artiste for 2018.
Patrice Roberts
Patrice Roberts (born 11 April 1985) is a Trinidadian soca singer.
She came to national attention in 2005 with the huge hit collaboration “The Islands” alongside Bunji Garlin, written by Kernal Roberts and produced by Shawn Noel (Da Ma$tamind), which was used in promotional commercials by the Ministry of Tourism.[1]
It was in 2005 when Patrice Roberts shocked the entertainment industry in Trinidad and Tobago with her talent. Her introduction through a vocal collaboration was with Bunji Garlin, who at that time was in the spotlight. It was her refreshingly soothing and powerful vocals that quickly got her the attention that many established entertainers desired. Very few were able to provide accurate answers about her and her career, appearing mystery like. Patrice Roberts has assumed her position in the Caribbean music industry as a force to be reckoned with.
Music was always an instrumental part of her life and would inevitably become her career. As far as her mind allows her to journey Patrice recollects always being in love with music and singing. It was at the tender age of seven she began taking her passion seriously.Since then Patrice has not regretted surrendering to her passion.
In 2006, shortly after Patrice shot into the spotlight she became one of the frontline vocalists and the only female vocalists in the internationally recognized Soca Band, which at that time was known as Xtatik (now HD). For Patrice her professional career had just begun and she was in full flight. It would be a challenging and difficult journey for Patrice but one that she would embrace and make her own when given the opportunity.
Fresh out of school, Roberts experienced what many would consider “culture shock”; moving from her countryside dwellings in Toco to city lights. Her transition from a calypso consumed lifestyle to Soca meant that the life she was accepting would attract obstacles beyond her understanding, “I had to adapt to the culture, the atmosphere and now compete with established artistes.”
Prior to her collaboration with Bunji Garlin and her alliance with Machel Montano and HD, Patrice had numerous Calypso accolades under her belt. Her journey from then to now was crafted by ace songwriter and producer, Kernal Roberts. The male Roberts was approached by Patrice’s then mentors; Dan Nero and George Stanisclaus for her introduction into the “Soca World.” This is how 2005 began. One of her greatest achievements followed soon after when she was named the youngest female Road March winner for her collaboration with Machel Montano titled “Band Of The Year”. This achievement would solidify her existence in the Soca world and prove to critics that she was more talent than they expected. Her talent has provided her with opportunities to travel extensively throughout the Caribbean, The USA and Europe with more opportunities still presenting themselves.
To understand her career one must understand her struggles, obstacles and successes, a simple word of advice from her to anyone interested in following their dreams is, “Believe in them.” To date Roberts has been recognized for some of her hit singles namely, ‘Big Girl Now’, ‘Old and Grey’, ‘A Little Wine’, ‘Bruk Out’, ‘I am Soca’, ‘Unforgettable’, ‘Tempa Wine’, ‘
Sugar Boy’, Wukkin Up’, ‘Rollin’, ‘Always Be’ and among others.

The thought provoking question, why the name HoodCelebrityy arises amongst many inquiring minds. HoodCelebrityy explains, “Im a hustler at heart and Ive done it all. I worked in one of the most popular urban clothing stores in the Bronx on Fordham Road, to running around in these crazy streets with my family trying to trap a dollar. Whether it was Clothing, music, or street sh*t, I could move it. At my store I was the girl that would get you right, Hood says with a laugh. All the customers looked towards me to put together that special outfit for the wkd. While at work, I would upload quick 15 second video freestyles that started to go viral. My instagram page started to become very popular at the same time Ive solidified a reputation on the street as the girl not to be played with, thus the name HoodCelebrityy.
t was the summer of 2015 that HoodCelebrityy’s long time friend and confidant, social media phenomenon and recording artist, Cardi B called her up. Cardi exclaimed with question, “I didn’t’ know you did music? Your sh*t is fire!” “From there, Cardi posted my video and the rest is history. I went from 2,000 followers to 12,000 overnight. From Cardi’s post, I got so much love and recognition”, states HoodCelebrityy. The next day, I recorded my first single, “Wine Pon It”and shot the video. That too went viral and from there, it was no turning back. I had to give the people more of me and I wanted to”.

When asked about Vybz and the motivation he’s provided to Hoods rapidly growing career, Hood explains, “Vybz Kartel’s music has been a major influence towards my artistry. He is a genius. He can make music about any topic. Not all artists can do that. His music motivates and uplifts my spirit and that is exactly how I want to impact fans with my music”, states HoodCelebrityy. “50 Cent is my favorite Rapper of all time. He is creative, smart, and he knows how to stay relevant, and is at the top of his game. I aspire to be just like that!”
HoodCelebrityy’s debut mix tape, “Can’t Believe It’s Just A Girl” is scheduled for an early 2017 release. “The reason for my mixtape’s title is because people hear my music, look me up, and then they say, “I can’t believe it’s just a girl” smiles HoodCelebrityy. They go on to say, “She is too dope to be a girl.” “I don’t try to do what females regularly do, but whatever I put my mind to, I know that I can do it”.
With a sound so well versed and well rounded, from Reggae to Pop music, Hoodcelebrityy has initiated a “new wave” that shes hand crafted, and has added to her flows. With the appropriately tilted track “The Takeover”, she introduces a fresh sound she calls “Trap Reggae”. “Its like rap infused with Jamaican urban culture. I am a huge fan of hip hop, so I wanted to create a sound that incorporates the witty flows and gangsta beats, with a dance hall edge!”
HoodCelebrityy can be found across multiple social media platforms, with a mass following, totaling over 150,000, @Hoodcelebrityy. Her viral video freestyles, and game shaking music videos can be found on her youtube channel, titled HoodCelebrityy with over 1.5 million views to date!
HoodCelebrityy has opened for multi-platinum artist, Shaggy, Barrington Levy and most recently Cardi B! Needless to say Hood is becoming an all around entertainer! Her stage presence is phenomenal and can be felt throughout the entire audience! her performances are an experience within themselves! Hood states,
“I love to perform. I put on a real show when I am performing. I am a true performer”, states HoodCelebrityy. You can hear HoodCelebrityy’s Music being played in clubs and radio stations all over the world!
