all three roman emperors in ToA wanted Apollo so fucking bad. they were constantly picking on lester’s appearance and trying to humiliate him because that was their only way to cope with their memories of meeting roman Apollo at his absolute hottest and wanting a piece of that so badly they became evil. Caligula would tremble like a chihuahua faced with the godly version of Apollo and he knows it and it eats him inside. idk i think about this every day

Sorry lad, this took much longer than I expected 🥲

So I made his younger version together with our boy Apollo. As you can see his Accessoire Designs are based on what Apollo is wearing, you know like MATCHING~, and the laurels and sun were a gift from him as well. The only difference to Commodus older version would be, that he has a curly/wavy beard like Hercules and he would wears his neon pink Nike Training jumper and Make-up 😋

I still STAND with the belief that one of the best romantic that Rick Riordan has ever written is still the Copollo tent scene! The way he wrote it was just so… intricate. Am I making sense? I hope I am. It’s just an amazing scene and honestly makes Commodus’s and Apollo’s dynamic so so interesting!

Frankly, I think there's a lot to be said about potential dependency in Copollo. Particularly on Commodus's part.

There's a lot more thoughts on this (which will be part of the Essays) but TL;DR-

Commodus often wondered if things between him and Apollo could have been different. Throwing darts at a picture of his face he would ponder on if they could’ve ended any other way. His mind was a garden, if a garden relished violence. These thoughts, these hints of guilt, this regret, it was all weeds. And what better to do with weeds than to stamp them out?

The thing about weeds, however, is that no matter how hard you try, you can never fully get rid of them. They will always come back. And the same was true here. How many nights had Commodus spent, 9questioning every interaction they’d had, wondering if there had been signs of the inevitable betrayal. How many generals had he slain, just because they’d had the misfortune of being in his way after one of these days? Even feeling the slightest bit of remorse for how he and Apollo had ended up made him want to cover all of Commodopolis in blood. 

Yet, one evening, laying in a bath so similar to the one he had once perished in, he felt sorry for once. Perhaps, if Apollo had accepted what had to be done for the good of Commodiana, his face wouldn’t currently be pinned to a dartboard, and they might've  ended up happily, as they once were, together ruling over all the Commodians. Perhaps Apollo could’ve tried to understand, perhaps he could’ve even helped Commodus set up his forms of ‘entertainment’. 

Apollo had made his choice. Rather than choose Commodus, rather than make the correct decision, he’d chosen betrayal. Had Apollo enjoyed it, killing him? Did he feel joy, watching the life drain from his eyes, his heart slowing stop beating? Was there any guilt, any hesitation, any remorse involved? Maybe Commodus would have admired the ruthlessness, the efficiency, involved in the killing, if it weren’t for simple fact that it was him who was on the recieving end. He wasn’t supposed to die. He was the new Hercules, he was the closest thing Commodiana had to a god. Gods don’t die. Yet he had, at his once lover’s hands.

Apollo’s shining, golden face was a reoccurring one in his dreams since resurrection. Commodus didn’t want to remember it, didn’t want to remember the kindness and tenderness he had once been treated with. Those days were gone, far gone by now, and left in their place was rage and desire for revenge. Commodus would show Apollo what pain felt like, he would give Apollo what he deserved. The sun god was going to learn truly what pain felt like, and he had a list of all the wonderfully brutal ways he would get back at him. Now pathetic and mortal, all Commodus had to do was wait. Patience was yet another virtue Commodus didn’t possess, but for this, it was one he could try to learn.

The weeds were being ripped up by their roots now, and it didn’t seem like they would come back this time.
