another small thing in the boys that is generally insignificant but feels much more significant TO ME is the way in s3 that the flight 37 video is just... everyone's business. like annie's tossing the threat around to homelander.. (which tbh I do buy that annie would toss that around even if she didn't have the video herself)... and there's that scene early in 301, where butcher's just watching the video on his own laptop. right? (it has been ages since i watched that given that the scene does not actually Have Maeve In It, but it lodged in my brain from first viewing due to Adjacentness to her). like, functionally, in the show, that scene serves to a) remind the audience that the video exists and b) be a little teaser/foreshadowing that butcher and maeve are working together, which is revealed later in that episode. and it totally works for that purpose, i don't think it's a "bad writing choice" as far as the actual TV show goes.

but then like, from the characters' POV though? no way in hell you can convince me that Maeve would've airdropped butcher a copy of that video. no way she's adding him to her dropbox. why the hell would she be casually sharing that video file with anyone, least of all a guy she's met within the last year, who is kind of widely known for huge, destructive, short-term thinking? like, yeah, i guess butcher was in his Safe and Cautious era, but like even still, i find it quite hard to believe mr. skorcht urf himself wouldn't release that video if he had a copy on his laptop.

then again, perhaps the valid, in-character explanation for this is that maeve never GAVE it to him. girlie is not exactly known for her "cybersecurity" skills.... she doesn't exactly have a good track record for keeping that video secret and secure... lmao

but men at 57 will write books about how 17 year old girls are soooo sexy. they will invent worlds where women have to be naked for "armor reasons." they will write songs that treat women as objects. people rush to defend them. meanwhile a woman at 35 will be like "heartbreak is hard, actually" or "i feel betrayed by a friend" or "i am struggling with something emotionally." immediately people will say stuff like this woman is 35 by the way. by the way this woman is SO OLD to be experiencing this. BY THE WAY.

im 31, almost 32. the other day a poet was blasted online because at her "big age", she had written a poem about feeling unloved. top comment was "this woman is 29 by the way." this woman is too old to still be useful, by the way. she has to behave better . maybe if she was a good wife and mother she could stop existing loudly, and the story could continue on without her. this woman has served her purpose, by the way. she's so cringe, by the way. at 29 - so old! - she still hasn't figured out that her existence should be one of shame.

Listen to me… When (not if. WHEN) they eventually have Tristan start pulling away from Max/Avery and trying to be with Vivian because he’s insecure or self-conscious or hurt or the 3 of them have worries about fully committing to each other… I need everyone to remember several things.

-This is blatantly a show about a throuple, which has also already had threesome sex on screen. If I see bullshit words like “queerbaiting” or “polybaiting” once we get a little bit of proper angst I will not be responsible for my actions.

-Avery was jealous when Tristan was eyeballing Vivian.

-Tristan was talking to Vivian at the Halloween party and got distracted by Max’s costume.

-Tristan held hands with Avery and Max in the infirmary, not Vivian. He also walked down a fake wedding aisle with the two of them.

-Vivian isn’t Tristan’s love interest. Avery and Max are. Stories need drama and conflict and Vivian is set up as a side character to provide that.

I expect Gay Week to feed us well! I also expect something in the last ep before the midseason finale will give us some emotional angst as a “cliffhanger” of sorts. And in case Vivian comes into play... I’m just putting this out there here and now because I’ve seen people say some things about being ~worried~ about her.

Hot take but there’s nothing to be worried about!!!!! They’ve very obviously already told and shown us that the throuple is the point of this and as the audience we’re being made to root for them on purpose!!!!! Embrace the agonizing angst that’s sure to come!!!!!!
