💋  —  never been kissed?     a headcanon about my muses first kiss, who it was with and how they felt about it.

Herc’s so old that I don’t think even he remembers his first kiss — sometimes those ancient memories start to blur together. But he remembers his first kiss with someone very important: Megara.

They’d met and been engaged on the same day, thanks to her father being grateful to Hercules for the heroic (debatable, really) work he’d done in saving Thebes. Before they’d gotten properly married, though, Herc had stolen her away to get to know her better. Maybe it had started with genuine intention to get to know the woman he was meant to marry, but it's Hercules, and we all know how he is.

So, days were spent sneaking around before their wedding was set up, making sure the king doesn't hear them whispering to each other or catch them stealing kisses and affection while everyone is busy making sure the princess' wedding was going to be perfect.  

He still thinks back to it. Still remembers that he thought Megara was going to be the only major love of his life, totally happy to be the heroic husband that comes home from big adventures to shower his wife with love and affection.

But Hera is forever vengeful and ended that dream when she knew it would hurt him most. 

Thinking back to that first day still brings him some amount of joy, though. Even if he regrets so many things that happened afterward, he has those lingering memories of kissing her for the first time, before her father had prepared their wedding — because he was a rebellious little shit who thought he could get away with anything. And Megara loved that about him.

Herc’s not exactly the most patient person, long life or not. A lot of his life has been chasing short-term gratification. (see: his relationship with Megara ending in tragedy, thus he chases that feeling he had with her. 100% healthy coping mechanism. don't look at him too closely.)  However, keeping on theme here, there’s a particular relationship he takes slowly in the modern age: when he gets together with Noh-Varr. 

He kind of has to take it slowly. Noh’s his first partner since his sobriety, and at that point it had been, what, five years in? So, sure, a long time for any mortal mind, and a significant amount of time for Herc, who’s been a loud, obnoxious party-boy for the last three thousand years. Can you imagine the pressure of having been known as the drunken demigod hero for three thousand entire years, and then making it to five entire years of not being that! That's huge for Herc! And a ton of pressure when he finally lets himself fall for someone.

There’s a fear inside of him that he’ll wind up relying on the relationship as sort of a crutch to make up for the other vices he’s given up, but thankfully Noh is willing to take things slow, too. It’s something they both need at that time, with their combined messy relationship histories. 

Plus you toss in how different they are, the fact that they found their way together by way of mutual attraction and close quarters as a team, and … yeah, it’s best to let the relationship start slowly. It’s not the first time Herc’s been with someone who’s so different from himself — I'd say most of his modern relationships are like that. But Noh is special in a way that other modern relationships haven’t been. 

Mostly because Herc’s happy, he’s sober, he’s found his proper godly domains… He’s a new person altogether and it’s important that he does things right this time around. So he'll take things a day at a time, test the waters out, and see where he and Noh wind up.

And he just really likes Noh. As a person, as a partner, as a teammate, and as a friend. 

🥀  —  the last petal falls!      a headcanon about a time my muse has pined or felt unrequited love for another.

Why do I feel like this was on purpose — yes, he has a crush on Thor. No, he won’t act on it. His feelings for Thor are already messy enough that adding romantic or sexual tones to it would only make it worse. It’s tough, since he’s got this issue where he admires Thor, thinks he’s an impressive god worthy of respect, but there’s all the times Zeus compared the two of them that still leave Herc with a bit of a sour taste in his mouth. Tying romance into that without heavy discussion of feelings and the situation as a whole is just asking for trouble. 

Besides, he’s prioritizing friendship above everything these days — much as he might daydream about how strong a friend is, it’s more important to let that strength be used for, you know, hero stuff. 

(There have been plenty of others, of course — Herc’s dealt with his fair share of having feelings for others whose sexualities don’t line up with his. Such is the life of a poly bisexual man who’s 3,000 years old and has no distinction of what his 'taste' is.)

Very early post Void Color probably just mindlessly walked in circles while waiting for his doctor or nurse to give him his meds and food. Like in this video.

I also have a feeling that just about every single noise was too much and started annoying the fuck out of him once he managed to get past the panic attacks.

If you breathed too loudly around him, this malnourished fuck would give you a death glare and a sneer like he wished you would stop breathing.

The only reason he probably didn’t tell anyone to shut up for a while is because the sound of his own voice unnerved and made him uncomfortable, and talking only seemed to make his never ending exhaustion worse—but he would definitely make it obvious what he was thinking.

He’d probably get into a lot of arguments and fights with other patients, too, if he weren’t always so exhausted all the time to even say anything most days.

I’d imagine that sometimes he just forgot he was out of the Void at all—as if that information just slipped out between the cracks of his mind. I wonder if they’d assign him a “body buddy” to help him with these moments.

I think it’d be funny with in terms of physical dichotomy across the different planets — penacony having the power of harmony, the xianzhou with mara/differing species such as foxians and borisin— Belobog just has their human native-borns just superhuman in terms of endurance. Like those mfs are DURABLE.

Centuries of being considered a “dead planet” to everyone, isolationist and cut off from the star rail just mutated every single belobogian’s genetics across generations to catch up with the numerous calamities they have every weekend and casually turned them into actual BEASTS in terms of trying to knock them down. The ‘weak’ dying off either by the fragmentum or the eternal freeze, whereas the strong have had inherited cold resistance, upped strength and adamantine bones, etc.

For example, when gepard tells the kids in his voicelines that to become a captain (presumably as strong as him) he just says to keep training and eat well, I genuinely believe that’s what he did and he’s just ABLE to smash robots with his bare fist. Like belobogians are just Them.

Okay, again not rlly strict or clear ones, but I like to think about it. That being said, I'm mostly coming up with it as I go along. I'm just gonna answer this with every character as if nothing bad happened to them so I can include the Washingtons- I hope thats ok, if not I can do a post game one I'm sure all I think abt is this game.

I like to think she would become a model like she wants to be.

Also maybe an actress in some of Josh's films lol. I think she'd be good at it.

Honestly job wise I think she just does whatever she feels like, she's a very free and funloving person.

She visits Em at her work all the time, they have their lunch together.

Ashley works on her books, which are mostly like crime-mystery type stories.

She often goes over Josh's scripts with him.

She works at a coffee shop in a mall because she just likes the vibe of sitting and writing in a café on her breaks.

She works at an animal shelter while also volunteering with conservation charities and stuff.

She's athletic and does runs and stuff for fundraising for charity.

He does film writing/directing, much like his dad.

His movies are much more psychological horror whereas his dad's were more ur slasher-type horror.

He spends pretty much all his free time with his friends and family, his own home is basically abandoned 90% of the time.

Often helps Ashley go over her writing as well.

Him and Jess drive out into the woods at random times to walk and chat, usually trading updates on their friends' lives and stuff.

Mike

Sort of like Jess, he just does whatever.

I can see him working with dogs tbh, maybe with Sam at the shelter. He deals with the larger breeds specifically.

He has a collie dog he goes everywhere with pretty much.

He also likes to show up and bother Em at her work. Lol.

Matt

He becomes a P.E teacher at the same place Beth is a music teacher.

He often goes to Blackwood when Hannah's there and they ski and hike together.

He goes on roadtrips with Ashley and Josh, he's usually driving while they get pictures and stuff for inspiration. They have gotten lost a LOT.

Chris

He does app design, most of his work is from home.

He's often with Josh, and does help with any technical stuff for Josh.

Ashley and Josh like to drag him out into the sun every now and again, because otherwise he would likely happily sit behind a screen all day.

You know one thing that really bothers me about the idea that if Ayame was around when Akane was revealed as despair her first/main reaction would be "I can fix her" and put all her might into trying to get Akane to change is that it feels like Ayame as a person is being completely ignored in the equation.

Seriously, have you guys ever thought about how Ayame would be feeling when receiving that information? Because i think she would be pretty fucking devastated if she was there to see someone she cared about so much turn out to be one of the people who made them go through this hellish killing game. Hell, i always thought that if she hadn't broken/lost hope thus far this would be her breaking point.

Do you really think she would have the mind to completely push past all that in a millisecond and go "NOOOO AKANE I WILL SAVE YOU‼️‼️‼️"? Don't get me wrong i could totally see her being in denial, but i don't think her will would be that strong to be doing that the whole chapter when she would be hurting so fucking bad on the inside.

Would she even be able to go after Akane afterwards? Would she be able to bring herself to look at her in the face? Have you guys ever considered that? That maybe seeing the person you once found comfort and joy in twisted into a ruthless despair would really hurt a lot for someone who cared so so deeply like Ayame?

This is, once again, Ayame being boiled down to a tool for Akane's character instead of being treated as a character in her own right and I don't need to see more of that.

I have to really think about this because it's been a while since I've read the books. I needed to refresh my brain a bit!

Since they got together, everyone thinks that they'd push each other to unhealthy heights of Exy obsession. But, that's not the case. Slowly, they are able to coax more interests than Exy out of each other.

With Kevin, it's a lot easier. Neil already knows of Kevin's attempts at having other interests, despite having Exy shoved down his throat since he could talk. So, when the time comes, Neil encourages Kevin to spend time with the things that bring him joy. Such as watching the newest documentary about Ancient Egypt on the History Channel instead of a rerun of a UPenn Exy game, or attending his first Ren Faire dressed to the nines so nobody would recognize him.

Neil tries, too, of course. He picks up 'hobbies' at Kevin's subtle proding, but they always end up as competitions to see who can learn them quicker or better. Instead of being hobbies, they just end up as skills in his set. They learn how to knit together, and Neil is a thousand times better since his hand was never broken; his fingers are more nimble and move at a faster sustainable pace. Kevin sulks at this, obviously. So, when they learn chess, Kevin ensures he always has two wins over Neil.

Exy is still Neil's primary focus, his lifeblood. It's Kevin's, too, but Kevin allows himself a little more freedom. Neil doesn't find as much fun in Renaissance Faires or tours of Native American landscapes as Kevin does, but whatever makes Kevin happy makes Neil happy.

They argue very little at home. Whatever steam they have, they settle it on the Court, either in private sessions or in actual games. They do not hold back. When Neil makes a too-wide pass, Kevin shouts, "Josten! Fix your fucking aim or get off the court!" because he remembers that Neil sucks at putting the dishes in the dishwasher. Likewise, Neil bites back with, "Maybe I wouldn't have done that if you'd get off my ass every once in a while!" because Kevin is always insisting that Neil never does his chores correctly, and perhaps it pisses him off a little.

But, if anything happens to them on the Court, nothing else matters. It could be a good thing; perhaps Kevin made the game-saving goal, or Neil intercepted an important pass. They'll bump shoulders or, if it's appropriate timing, lift each other into the sweetest victory hug. It could be bad. It could be that Kevin's ankle rolls with a sickening crack. Neil drops his racket from whatever corner of the court he's in and rushes to Kevin like his heels are on fire. He pushes everyone away to pull Kevin into his arms, cradling his face as Kevin breaks down, memories of his broken hand crashing in on him. He whispers to Neil, the only person who could truly understand his situation and the only one willing to comfort him, that he's never going to play again. It's all over, he says, over and over again.

Neil tells him it's not true. It's a sprained ankle; it heals in six weeks. Kevin had a right to panic since their lives were reliant on their ability to play Exy, but Neil stayed right by his side the entire time. He shields Kevin from the press, having little patience for their prying questions. He spits out words that he knows Kevin would be horrified by (and so would the US Exy National PR Team). He sits down with Moriyama and explains the injuries and healing time. Moriyama leaves Kevin alone. Neil never lets Kevin get too far into his own head, and at the end of it all, Kevin thanks him in his own way.

Neil is on the receiving end of a lot of things; he finds brand-new running shoes waiting for him on the kitchen counter. There are his favorite protein bars ever from Germany stacked to the brim in the pantry. Kevin tells him, nonchalantly, that they have first-class tickets to watch the best professional Japanese team play in person in a month. It's hard for Kevin to say specific words, but Neil doesn't need them to understand.

But, sometimes, they do come out. At the end of their morning run on a rainy Tuesday, Kevin turns to Neil and says "I love you." Because perhaps that's when he needs to say it - when it's all clogged in his chest and nobody expects him to say it, least of all himself. And Neil will return the affection that night when the sun has set and the fear of nightmares has nestled into his skull. He fears that he has made a mistake letting Kevin so close to his heart, close enough that someone can hurt Neil by taking Kevin away. He turns to Kevin, grabs the nape of his neck, and says "I love you, too."

Because he knows that his fears are inane. That having someone to take care of his heart rather than letting it rot in its bone cage is the best decision he's ever made.

They sleep wrapped in the other's limbs and body. And when one starts shaking from a nightmare, they don't hesitate to pull each other closer. And that's all they need at the end of their long days. Having someone who will worldlessly, unquestioningly support them is enough.
