Have been reading Batman/Batfamily books from the 70s up and I'm currently at New 52.
I hate most stuff but that are some gems:
Tumblr media
S
- Batman and Robin is great most of the time, I cannot complain. The moments I thought were not very much in character ended up being my mistake and I've managed to understand them as genuinely good moments. The arc of Damian's death and Bruce's reaction to it is great and very consistent with how he reacted to Jason's death so many years ago.
- Gotham Academy is almost perfect. I've read the first 6 issues and all the kids are so much fun for me. I don't really agree with Bruce's writing on this first issues? I feel like he is written colder than he used to be written around children. I feel like the writer is doing it from a place of what Batman/Bruce's vibe is, not really from actual understanding of his character, but that's fine cause the protagonist is biased against him anyway, so I can excuse it as her perspective on him. I'm excited to see Dami in the school, I feel like Robin's school life is probably one of the best ideas ever, it worked for Tim Drake before and gothic academy is a great vibe for Damian.

- Batwoman is also very nice. I think I could've put it in S tier but I've occasionally found myself a little bored by it or skipping something cause it wasn't very interesting to me. Mostly I think Kate Kane is a great character as she had been pre flashpoint and her book did not suffer much from this terrible change in direction. That said I don't care for Maggie Sawyer, I miss Montoya's Question and her dynamic with Kate. I wish Nocturna was better developed as a character as well, as I feel like conceptually she is a great foil for Kate. Alice and Red Alice were not to my taste. The idea and vibes are good but it sometimes feels like a Harley Quinn ripoff that's trying not to be that? Not a very consistent character and having read Alice in Wonderland I feel like this character deserved far better.
- Batman Inc. is... Complicated. I'll just come out here and say it: I do not enjoy Morrison's writing of Batman. I feel like their writing is sometimes TOO meta to a point where they are talking more about the real world IP Batman™ and not so much about Bruce as an actual character. Everything is a big metaphor to what every character represents in our world and not so much what they feel and think, which makes it feel like everything happens in a dreamlike world of concepts and commentary on comics. It's comics about comics and that's boring to me. It's not badly written, just not my cup of tea. That said, this second volume of Batman Inc. was so much fun and at the time it made me FEEL things, even if they were occasionally bad things. I do not like Morrison's treatment of Thalia at all, but overall I rather read a bold yet controversial book than any of the other VERY boring and safey books that make up Batfamily books up until now.
___________________________
B
- the Batman title was not as bad as it could've been. The New 52 is overall a terrible idea and I've seen lots of people say Batman comics got the better treatment out of it and oh boy, I'm so sad for the rest of DC cause most Batman comics S U C K... The Batman title though is mostly fine. Scott Snyder is a good writer. Am I fan of everything he did with this run? Not at all, but he was bold enough to create things, lots of concepts from his run are very very fun and deserve to be core concepts of Batman. It means a lot that the Court of Owls is that popular when the last big villain we got was probably what, Hush? And Court of Owls for all it's flaws is such a better story than Hush anyway. I enjoy a lot of the relationships and character writing here too.
That said, unfortunately, A LOT of the stories are kinda too similar to other stories and feel repetitive if you've read a lot of comics. I've SEEN "Batman disappeared and we're worried about him" just before Flashpoint, I don't need Bruce to be away in a maze (even though it's far better written than Batman RIP to my taste), same thing with Endgame... I've read Contagion and we don't really need ANOTHER pandemic in Gotham. But anyway, maybe that's a me problem more than it is the books problem. Snyder is very competent and his stories can be very very fun and even though not every idea works for me, at least he treats characters with respect and care.

Nightwing is the reason I started reading comics back when I met him in the Starfire goes to the future episode of Teen Titans cartoons and he was THE COOLEST GUY EVER. That said WHY is it that everytime they decide to give him a solo book he is 100% solo? Dick Grayson's best traits comes from his relationship. His weird older-brother-turned-father relationship with Bruce, his guilt towards Jason's death, his situationship with Barbara, his brotherly relationship with Tim and Damian, ALL of his Titans relationships. That's Dick Grayson. So WHY is he solo dealing with "the circus you grew up with is actually EEEEEVILLL and your childhood besties (WHO???????) want to kill you"? It's not just bad and boring, it's a weird trend that has started back with Chuck Dixon's run on him. That's a celebrated run that I don't understand, it's kinda fun at best but alienating at worst, which is sad cause Dixon's Batman run is quite good for Batfamily and Dick Grayson in my opinion. Anyway, this book sucks, what's next?
- Grayson. It's not necessarily badly written but who are this people? Give him back his suit, give Helena Bertinelli her suit and put them back in Gotham. Fuck Spyral and all cops are bastards, moving on.
- Batwing: I don't care for David Zavimbe, but Luke Fox had very fun writing and high stakes, I really enjoy this character, I wish he had more time and a better name. I like the idea of rich family boy finds out the reason all this Bat kids work is that they have absolutely no one except other super heroes and doing this with an actual, functional family is so fucking harder. This is not in C cause it's boring, it just had no time to cook better stuff, but I had lots of fun.
______
D
Detective Comics, Batman Eternal and Batman TDK have the same problem: they are not actual stories about actual characters they are excuses to keep an IP. It lacks personality, it lacks anything of interest, it's Batman living through an eternal hell of generic stories that take him nothing to nowhere, you lose nothing by skipping this, this is what people that don't read comics think comics are: nothing happens and every week Batman just fights a guy again.
Batgirl: Gail Simone can write the hell out of Barbara Gordon... As an adult woman.... In a wheelchair.... With the Birds of Prey.... Why is this 35 year old calling herself Batgirl again? Disgusting, ableist and very boring. And the ableism isn't JUST on Barbara, her Brother's treatment is honestly horrendous. And Batgirl of Burnside is not much better with her Oracle persona turning into an evil algorithm that she needs to talk down and destroy??? Fuck you, DC comics. I will not get into the weirdly transphobic story of a guy doing drag as Batgirl being treated as a monster and ridiculous. I will add though: if you really needed a college age Batgirl, you HAD Stephanie Brown AND Cassandra Cain. Oh wait, NO YOU DIDN'T, CAUSE YOU DISAPPEARED WITH THEM, RIGHT YOU MORONS???? I cannot believe how much better this could've been if we got roommate Cass and Steph as Batgirls attending college together and how their different personalities work off each other and in class. Also Barbara Gordon being 21 is probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever read.
Red Hood and the Outlaws: absolutely nothing of worth here except a couple of Jason x Bruce scenes, but barely. Lobdell can't write a villain to save his life and all the characters are just either thrown into the trash or we have Jason who is not necessarily thrown into the thrash but for some fucking reason has random mystic powers and training....? I don't know, I feel like it's the most convoluted type of story I've ever read, he was raised from the dead by the League of Assassins, WHY does he have to go away from them and then train with ANOTHER also league of also assassins? Lobdell is AI Writing before AI writing existed, it's insane.
I've also read Teen Titans and I uh... Rather not talk about.

a pretty lengthy ask mostly about miss wayne cause i'm feeling chatty and brave, please take your time and no pressure to answer all of these!! 💜
• which continuity or more specifically, origin story do you prefer for helena wayne?
• i think it's kind of a shame that in the two origin stories i know for hel, selina dies. to be fair, i do understand that later on helena loses all of her loved ones including bruce, but i kinda would've loved to see earth 2 selina still be alive for longer.
• your thoughts on her relationship with karen starr? i love them SO MUCH, platonically and romantically both! i am absolutely rooting for them as a couple, but i also just love seeing them vibe and kick ass together like the dynamic duo they are!!
• what do you think about helena wayne being a lawyer in the golden age era? and do you think if she'd be a lawyer again or even have a dayjob at all in the current storyline? i would understand if she sticks to just being a vigilante, because in the former, helena would often have reservations about her dayjob and felt that she made more of a difference as huntress.
• i think it's really cool how helena has had a lot of mantles at different points, and she was awesome in all of them not to be biased or anything... robin, huntress, batman, batwoman, and famine. i like huntress as a primary identity for her, but it's really interesting and fun to see her in different roles.
• you had asked me about this in the past, but i still would love to hear your thoughts on this: how would you go about crafting a helena wayne and helena bertinelli crossover?
Oh wow, okay this is amazing first of all and second of all THANK YOU, like I don't consider myself an authority at all but I do just love this character sm 💖
Tbh I think the only origin I don't really like is the current 2022 one. It really feels like the writer didn't get that Helena's whole thing is that she DID get to enjoy a childhood free from angst and the way Selina talks to her totally doesn't gel with me. But I think I like the new52 origin a lot, not just because it was my introduction to her but also because it shows both of her parents being present. I know Selina was present in pre crisis but we never really got to see that due to.. death... which leads me to ->
Oh I totally agree. Like on one hand, it's very cool that the daughter of Batman actively chooses to honour both her parents with her mantle, but favouring Selina. It feels like something that wouldn't happen today. I say this all the time but it's true 😭. But, especially in new52, it feels really unnecessary for Selina to be the one that dies first when Helena loses everyone anyway. I don't think this is particularly sexist- maybe so in the 70s - but atp it feels like writers see this as an Uncle Ben moment for Helena. I guess 2022 Helena gets points for imagination for not doing that but I have issues with it lol.
THEY ARE THE ____ EVER. I'm not a huge shipper unless a dynamic really breaks my mind, but I'm a big big found family/friendship stan and I LOOOOVE these two and how their friendship literally transcends time and space. I think Worlds' Finest was really great for showing how close they are and how they balance each other out, especially how they both had moments where one was down and the other picks them up. Also a side note - I LOVE the small detail in Worlds' Finest for Helena and Karen, and when the comic switches to Batman and Superman, the apostrophe moves so it's World's Finest. Huntress and Power Girl, the Finest on MULTIPLE worlds, suck on that Bruce.
I also truly love Helena being a lawyer because it would have been so easy for that to just not be a thing. Instead we're told she graduated a year early in a difficult degree and is flying in her career by 25. I think how I would change it though is to have Helena work in a DA office rather than commercial law, and I think she totally would start feeling that disillusionment with law, especially when criminals get off or kids go down for minor crimes disproportionately. She would definitely go through a period of sticking with being the Huntress but then something would come up where after the direct action is taken, who was there to make sure justice was served? I think that would then motivate her to pivot to public interest law, which I think makes her feel like she's finally making a difference. I definitely have a rough outline for Helena being a lawyer in this day and age but ooh who knows when I'll write it properly.
Running outta space so to skip to the last qs (I might ramble on 😭) - how I would do this crossover is fairly inspired by new52 Helena and post crisis Bertinelli. She crosses over to this Earth when she's only 15, and as resourceful as her and Karen are, they're both still kids. I do think she avoids Gotham like the plague, and is actually unaware of Hel B (let's be a little realistic, most vigilantes don't get high profile, and I think Hel B prefers it that way). I'd say this is probably around the time that the Relentless arc is happening and the Birds of Prey are established by now. Oracle picks up some weird interference from Wayne Enterprises and gets Hel B to check it out. Meanwhile Hel W is inside stealing a shit ton of money thinking "damn this was kinda fun. I'm understanding mom on a deeper lev-" *glass shatters*. I think the funniest thing that could happen at this point is Hel B to ignore the outward similarities they have and focus on why tf this girl looks like Selina Kyle but with Bruce Wayne's eyes, and then when Hel W stands up to her full height something clicks for Hel B and she kinda goes tongue in cheek, "What are you, the secret lovechild of Batman and Catwoman?" And Hel W considers this for 2 seconds and thinks, what's the worst that could happen? And goes "Yeh". And they both just stare at each other for a while. Hel B is probably thinking, 'shit, first time I try to joke with a suspect and this is what I get? This is why I shoot first' and Hel W is probably thinking 'if I shoot her first and leave with no witnesses nobody will believe her'. Hel B notices her mannerisms and wtf. She's legit frowning just like Batman does. This is officially too weird for her and she's not abt to become part of some weird custody dispute so she nopes out of there and tells Oracle it was a domestic disturbance, which Babs also accepts easily bc like... yeah any of the batboys would probably break into WE if they felt like it. For the longest freaking time Hel B is convinced that Hel W is just an open secret every one knows about, meanwhile Hel W was seriously confused but grateful and begins to seek out Hel B for help during cases of her expertise (the mafia). She also takes the opportunity to mess with the rest of the batfam during her short stays in Gotham. I'm not sure how the rest of this would pan out but I'm so on board with Hel B randomly acknowledging Hel W and everyone's like wtf is she talking abt. Things that are so funny to me

I've been doing a massive Batfam read through since September or so, and I've made lots of little notes and things, but I want to put more random thoughts on Tumblr.
So, for today: Kate Kane is awesome!! I like how, as Batwoman, she's kind of no-nonsense like Bruce, but Bruce kinda gives off "I'm such a martyr" vibes sometimes... Kate's straightforward military mentality doesn't (yet?) come across as self-flagellating, and that background provides so much context for her current actions.

YES THIS IS THE KIND OF RAMBLING I WAS TALKING ABOOUTT, AWESOME
I haven't reached tim's part of the story yet with the reading order I'm following. But man, do the bat kids attract tragedy or is this tim drake specific?? Because???? Is he ok?????
If all of this happened after becoming Robin, did it change him? The irrevocerabe kind of change??? Will BATMAN be ok???? Why does this happen to his kids😭
Stephanie doing hero stuff out of spite is hilarious hahajdkdf, I read batgirl year one and this kinda gives me similar vibes, I love ittt
UM?!?! DICK??????? Why did I get emotional just reading this, is it because I'm following his story now and-
Tell me batman did something or was there to help, poor baby didn't deserve this, why does it have to happen to the sunshine kid out of anyone else?! Why does it have to happen in the first placcee :(
I liked Talia in the tales of the demon (haven't got to complete it yet!) I mean, I didn't enjoy the comic much but she was fun! I'd hate it if she did anything to him, I interpreted their relationship as playful so yes, a booty call for me too :D
Batgirl Year One had me shipping Barbara and Dick hard, idk if it was a good portrayal or not, but it was enough to make me reluctant about reading teen titans, just so I don't see dick with someone else hahajd (I'm going to, though)
HAHAHAHSHDJF WHAT'S WITH BRUCE AND THE MAGIC THING?!?! WHY DO I FIND IT FUNNY, is the JL against him in a frustrating way or a friendly kinda way?
Batwoman? Is there a batwoman? I kind of obsessed about cat woman, idk abt it as a ship but I looveee their interactions. I lesbian batwoman cousin sounds nice!!!
THANK U SOOO MUCCHH, I REALLY AM LOOKING FORWARD TO READING THE OTHER BOOKS NOW
The midday sun cast a warm glow over Gotham City, the bustling streets alive with the sounds and scents of lunch. Tim Drake and Dick Grayson stood outside a brightly colored taco truck, engaged in light-hearted conversation as the aroma of sizzling street food wafted through the air. They were lost in their banter, sharing jokes and memories of past escapades, when an unmistakable tension by a homophobe, broke the moment.
Kylar strode toward them, fury radiating from him like heat from a flame. Tim felt a sharp tap on his shoulder and spun around just in time to receive a punch to the nose that sent him reeling backward and slamming into the food truck, pain shooting through his nose.
Bystanders at the taco truck, a mix of office workers on their lunch break and random people who spotted the truck, stood alarmed. Some clutched their tacos mid-bite, eyes wide as they registered the sudden violence, while others fumbled for their phones, fingers trembling with the urge to capture the chaotic scene unfolding before them.
“That’s for getting me fired, you f—” Kylar spat, his voice dripping with venom.
Before he could finish, Dick’s hand shot out, covering Kylar’s mouth with a grin that hinted at mischief.
“I’m going to enjoy breaking your arm like a twig this time,” he quipped, eyes glinting with a playful threat.
Onlookers gasped, caught between shock and amazement as Dick deftly twisted Kylar's arm. A sickening crack cut through the chatter of the street, drawing more gasps and murmurs from the crowd.
Tim, distracted by the shooting pain in his nose, winced.
“Oh man… ow… wait, Dick, stop! You can’t get arrested again!” he exclaimed, noticing Dick was kicking the man as the homophobe laid on the ground sobbing. He scrambled to pull Dick away from the scene.
With a final pull, he managed to drag him away as Kylar lay crumpled on the pavement, clutching his broken arm and groaning in agony. The sight was both satisfying and alarming.
“I love that you’re defending me, but he’s not worth it,” Tim blurted out, struggling to pull his brother away from the defeated former co-worker.
Dick, unfazed by their sudden notoriety, shot Tim a playful glare. “Let me break his nose as collateral for breaking yours!” he pleaded, still caught up in the adrenaline of the moment.
Tim assessed his throbbing nose, giving it a gentle poke. “My nose is fine- Owww! It’s not broken at least. Plus his arm shouldn’t bend that way. Run!”
With that, they took off, sprinting away from the food truck and leaving Kylar writhing on the ground. As they rounded a corner, a little girl wandered up to Kylar and, with all the nonchalance of childhood innocence, poured her soda over his face before skipping away, giggling.
Once they reached the cover of a nearby tree, they ducked behind it to catch their breath, laughter mingling with lingering adrenaline.
“Again,” Tim said, panting.“You and Jason are great brothers, but don’t get warrants because of that guy. Trust me, I ignore that dude all the time. Can’t stop my stride, and he was already fired and banned from the premises.”
Dick ruffled Tim’s hair affectionately, a broad smile on his face. “Aww, you got a good heart… and restrained anger. I usually does, but I’m glad you pulled me away, because I would’ve broken his nose.
Tim smiles, patting Dick on the shoulder, “And I appreciate you for that, but it’s not necessary. Thanks though.”
“I love you, bro,” Dick hugged Tim, making the younger man happy enough that he ignored the pain in his nose.
“Same,” Tim replied, grateful for the bond they shared, even in chaotic moments like this. “Now let’s head to the car before any cops show up.”
With shared smiles, they stealthily made their way through the labyrinth of Gotham streets, fading into the crowd as the distant wail of sirens began to fill the air.

you know, i’ve slagged off eric wallace a lot and had to eat my words over the past few months because i’m actually really enjoying this season, BUT one critique i stand by is that i really don’t like these super condensed arcs he does where we’re getting 2-3 different plotlines per season rather than one overarching story that lasts for a full run. i feel like it’s because he wants to explore as many different plotlines and concepts as possible, and as someone who has approximately 93838 ideas rattling around my brain at all times, i absolutely get it, but as a result i feel like we only get a surface-level run at some of these plotlines that are actually sick as hell
like the red death plot is already over? we could easily have got a whole season out of that, especially with the rogues’ team-up and redemption. and on one hand, yeah another evil speedster season, we’d all have rolled our eyes, but i feel like this was a very different take on the bad speedster thing that actually brought something fresh to it and i’d have happily watched a full season of it. admittedly, i didn’t 100% buy javicia as a villain. she’s just too sweet, i couldn’t really find her menacing. the dialogue didn’t help, it was pretty overwrought. ryan is not melodramatic enough for all that I AM THE NIGHT, I AM JUSTICE, RAWRRR kinda stuff imo. they took too much of the vibe straight from batman and imo it didn’t translate well to this specific iteration of batwoman, who is very different. BUT i still very much enjoyed it as a concept and i had a lot of fun with it. i wish that it had lasted longer :(
i guess i can thank eric wallace for giving me yet another really cool fanfic concept to file away in my brain, but i feel like the red death was a villain that we could easily have squeezed a full season out of and it does feel like a bit of a waste to have it all wrapped up in 5 eps
THAT BEING SAID i really enjoyed this arc, it was so fun and i hope they keep this energy up for the rest of the season!!

S2 / Main story. (featuring Harvey)
So after Bruce makes his speech about helping Arkham, he goes to visit Harves (Gilda included). Harves doesn’t want them to visit, obviously. Their past friendship really shines this time, although they were more professional before. This time Bruce is really honing in on their friendship, or what’s left of it. Sometimes Harvey gets to say something Batman mission related, most of the time it’s small talk. Twotwo doesn’t like Brucie.
Now, i haven’t figured out a plot point for why, but Harves gets handcuffed with Renee, I’m guessing Renee needs to accomplish something but she needs Twotwo so yeah. I insert a moment where they’re forced for vague plot reasons to interact with Batman and Batwoman. I think their dynamics are kinda similar and deserved to get compared. Exes meet each other kinda vibe. Twotwo and Renee get to make their point about how much better off they are without their ex (correct!).
Twotwo also accidentally meets with Jason. Teaching him stuff about guns, and returning him to Bruce/Batman.
Twotwo and Bruce gets their reconciliation conversation (somehow idk) where Bruce FINALLY realizes and admits their friendship was messed up. He purposefully never got close to Harvey, lied to him or concealed the truth, and wanted for Harvey to be “normal.” Now he has to accept his differences, his mental illness, his coping mechanisms, and their falling out. He never said goodbye when he left… he thought he was dead! Twotwo believes Bruce hates him, which Bruce has to confess, nah, never him. Bruce hated himself. He thought Harvey deserved to have that chance to be “normal” by keeping away from his personal life. Bruce shows to prove he knows Twotwo, not just Harvey, by reminiscing on past memories where Twotwo actually was fronting (although they only learned of his DID when TwoTwo became a criminal). See? the past does catch up with you…
Harvey and Twotwo is finally gonna be rehabilitated. That’s like half way through the story. For the rest, he’s in the background doing his rounds and providing information. He gets released and more side plots in S3/sequel tho.
Harves/Twotwo gets special treatment just for being my second favorite Batman rouge, so he has a bit more thought out importance… just for the main character Bruce tho, since it’s 1st/first person perspective 🫤 if i wanted to focus on the other character’s lives, they’d get their own perspective story which already takes a lot of my brain focus attention power/ability 😵‍💫
Anyways, Harvey get’s designated workplace co-worker status. He has past history with the main character (Bruce) but it’s never given much importance considering the years of distance and busy work. They share few moments of casual friendliness just to show history, but not enough to be considered friends anymore. Harvey get’s stressed often and already shows signs of repressing Twotwo, but so far it’s pretty unnoticeable.
I mentioned before in the Brucie rumor’s post that some people distanced away from Bruce because of the homophobia and gay allegations, Harvey was one of them. His reputation can’t really handle that, they’re close enough for Bruce to understand (imagine that scene from Telltale where they have that phone call, something like that vibe but more awkward).
Idk, but I think Harvey should see Gordon as some kind of father figure, i think it might help him with his father issues. I never thought about it until another post, but he should have some vague connection with Barbara too, not like, close, but just enough to know-ish.
Remember Rachel? From that movie? Well since she was just a Harvey replacement, i thought it’d do some good to use that concept, but not for human connection like a love interest, but to hold office as the next D.A. after Twotwo commits crimes. I couldn’t imagine Harves getting into law anymore, so I gave him a connection to it. Rachel is now Harvey’s sister figure! …or co worker friend, I haven’t decided yet. Rachel was with him in law college so yeah. She has Harvey’s workaholic nature and headstrong ambition, but she faces more misogyny and is less obsessive. Although she’s grateful for her work, she makes sure to spend time with friends and take time off, which is pretty difficult with her workload. She also gets to be friends with Gilda, obviously.
Uhm, I also included him being co worker friends with Renee, just to flesh out their later relationship a bit differently than canon…
Uhm, back to Harvey! After Twotwo gains more control, he uh, does his thing at destroying his and Gilda’s relationship. He also calls out Batman’s faults/flaws, which is actually a stepping stone for their character growth/change later. Yadda yadda, into Arkham he goes.
Gilda’s his fiancé, not married. The more Twotwo got into crime was when they get disengaged. I have separate plans for her tho…
That’s just for S1/prequel. I guess I’ll just make a part 2 🤔

Cass/Batgirls Creative Teams challenge
I'm bored so I decided to give myself a bit of a challenge of picking 3 creative teams I'd want to write a solo Cass that is more in tone with what I love from Batgirl 2000 but for the modern age and 3 creative teams I'd want to write a Batgirls comic that is more in tone with the current Batgirls series that is more "light heart, fun energy, BFFs forever" vibes. Only rule is I can't use the same creative in both list. I'm at work and this is off the top of my head so let's just have fun.
Cass solo:
Mariko Tamaki/Marcus To - This comes straight from the Asian Superhero Celebration comic. Their story together was probably one of the better stories in that anthology and there was a good amount of solid material in that book. To is phenomenal, I've wanted him on a Cass book forever and I hope that wasn't the only time it happens. Tamaki is hit or miss with me in many regards, but I think her Tec run was solid and her writing of Cass has been better than most that have written her since her return so I'd be curious where she'd take her in a solo venture.
Gene Luen Yang/Marcio Takara - I've wanted Yang to write Cass for a while and the energy and quality he's brought to Shang-Chi is something Cass needs in DC IMMEDIATELY. And do I even need to explain Takara I mean Takara is one of the only artists to make the Orphan suit look legit. Now with Cass as Batgirl I NEED Takara back drawing CassBatgirl again cause I've seen Takara CassBatgirl art and I want it in continuity NOW!
Alyssa Wong/Elena Casagrande - I'll admit Wong didn't use to be on my top list for Cass even after she'd written her before. I just wasn't feeling it. However in the couple years since the first time she wrote her Wong has improved a lot as a writer. Namely her Aphra series is pretty great. And also her one shot Shang-Chi and Iron Fist series has shown she can handle the fight scenes needed. Also the next time she wrote Cass in the Urban Legends story with Batwoman was a much higher quality to me and now I'd be curious for more. Casagrande is the main artist from Thompson's Black Widow book and frankly she made that book a must read. Her art was phenomenal, her fight scene paneling was incredible. It was worth reading just to see how cool she was making Natasha look and I want that for Cass.
Batgirls:
Jeremy Whitley/Gurihiru - The creative team from some of the best Unstoppable Wasp issues, need I say more? Yeah? Okay look Whitley is a white boy, yes, but he NAILED the fun energetic teenage/youth tone, that IMO Batgirls is currently failing at, in Unstoppable Wasp. He doesn't belittle the characters involved, nor does he belittle the audience reading it. He would rock a Batgirls book. And just look at the style of Gurihiru to know they would compliment the tone so well.
Sarah Kuhn/ Kelly & Nichole Matthews - Once again I'm bringing in a writer that has already nailed the tone in previous books so Batgirls would be fine. Kuhn has worked in the field of YA for most of her career, I believe, before she even did Shadow of the Batgirl and then SoTB came and she knocked it outta the park so if DC really wants Batgirls to be competing on that level they need someone who is already excelling on that level. The artists are twin sisters and I saw their art in a book called Save Yourself! (which I enjoyed and recommend) and I think their style would compliment the tone of Kuhn very well.
Danny Lore/Luciano Vecchio - Again Lore isn't someone I would've thought of for this a couple years ago, but one book has put Lore on the map for me as someone I want to see more range from at it was their Champions. Champions was basically put in a chokehold during Eve Ewing's run (that I believe made her quit being a comic writer but that's a different conversation) with the whole Outlawed story and Lore basically had to come in and play clean up while also telling their own story and then wrapping it up pretty quick once it got cancelled and you know what? They kinda succeeded. Sure nothing's perfect, but the main thing they did well which I would want most to carry over to Batgirls was the dynamic of the characters involved. Even if a writer isn't perfect for the tone they can salvage a lot just by how they write the characters and Lore showed me they put in the work to get characters right and that's enough for me, for now, to give them a spot on this list. Now because it was Lore's Champions that made me want them, I figure might as well bring in the artist to right? Plus Vecchio work on Ironheart (and he literally just did a Batgirls redesign) I think his style would mesh well with the tone DC wants for Batgirls.
Anyway, that's it. Let me know what you think.

Okay but I really do think about adult Cass and Tim carrying on the torch for Bruce together because I think only they could do it as a team. I love the idea of them being like two halves of Batman, and becoming even greater than Bruce together.
I really like the idea of Batman and Batwoman staying like a family thing. Like Bruce and Kate were cousins while Tim and Cass are siblings and you can have all this mirroring going on and stuff.
I love the idea of them having completely different, but equally fucking terrifying vibes. With there being two bat-demons protecting Gotham you’re never sure who you’re gonna get. The gentle and kind, yet deeply chilling Batman, or the pure horrific nightmare fuel Batwoman.
I love the idea of Cass really leaning into the fear element of Batman, while Tim is a lighter and more hopeful Batman. Tim has always had yellow lining his cape so I’m just obsessed with the idea that he keeps that element when he’s Batman. Tim has always had this burning light in him and I think the yellow lined cape shows a that so well.
ALSO I do bad want Bruce to kinda be the Alfred of this setting. He’s a cranky old man now who sometimes (often) backseat drives on the Batman stuff, but spends most of his time taking care of the house and doing old man stuff. I always like to imagine that Bruce would allow himself to retire and just let his battle be over. I want him to be happy with his family and be that support for Tim and Cass that Alfred was for him.
This is purely incoherent ramblings, but idk dude I just have so many ideas about how the batfamily would look in the future and Cass and Tim being a Bat duo is everything I want.

1, 2, 4, 5, !
1) Who’s your favorite superhero?
I’m gonna narrow this down to Cassandra Cain, Tim drake, and Kon-el for DC. Venom (Eddie Brock) and Elektra for marvel. Don’t ask for more, I can’t choose lmao.
2) Whose your least favorite superhero?
Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers. I don’t particularly vibe with her, I never really did. She’s a little too military for me, and I don’t usually enjoy the military characters. It’s the same reason I could never get super into Batwoman (I still like Kate a hell of a lot more than carol, tho). I think Civil War II kinda ruined her for me. She’s so authoritarian there, and I know it’s a bad comic and totally OOC, but I just haven’t really bothered to give her much thought after I read it. I tried a little, but nothing left enough of a good impression after that. I hate the MCU take on her, too. She’s so bland and boring and just blatant military propaganda, beyond the usual for the MCU, to the point that I just felt uncomfortable the whole time I was watching her movie
4) Favorite Costume
Again I can’t pick one, so you get a few. I love Kon’s 2019 young justice costume. It’s back to his classic look, but with added edgy studs. He looks like his old self, but a little rougher around the edges? Tbh it reminds me a lot of the way I dress, which is like. Cropped jacket in that style, those round sunglasses, and the studded belt. The look is what drew me to kon in the first place lmao.
My other favorite is Cass’s batgirl suit. The original with the black lenses. I don’t usually like minimalist type things, but I love simple superhero costume design. Cass in all black with only the bat symbol for contrast feels appropriate, as it emphasizes her value of the bat symbol above all else, and her dedication to what the symbol represents. (Also I love it when she’s drawn with the spiked shoulders on her cape and big ears. )
Number three is Elektra as Daredevil in Chip Zdarsky’s run. I’m doing a cosplay of that costume, I love it so much. She looks badass, and it’s a nice change from how insanely sexualized she usually is.
Honorable mentions to nightwing’ s finger stripes and to Spider-punk, because those costumes fuck. Spider-Punk’s got great vibes all around (and everyone should be reading his mini rn)
5) Favorite Power
I love Cass’s ability to read body language. It contributes so much to her character early on. Fanon uses her skill to sometimes make her like, a family therapist who understands everything perfectly, when that was never the case with her. She might know how a person is feeling, but that doesn’t mean she knows why, or that she’s know how to help if someone is upset. I wish we had more content from her early days, some no dialogue, un-narrated issues from her perspective, allowing us to see how she perceives people

okay, well today was blah. I woke up at like 3 am with a not great cough which kept me up for a while. when my alarm went off for court, I also got a call from the other lawyer for the case I was supposed to have the deposition with this afternoon that he needed to reschedule, so I ended up taking a proper sick day after court instead of just working from home which was the plan. I took some nyquil and went back to bed for a while since I was very tired. there was a minor panic moment when we thought someone at my roommate's work had tested positive, so she was going to come home early and take us to get tested, but it ended up being a false alarm thankfully. I'm pretty sure it's just a run of the mill cold, so I'm not too concerned. I woke up after a while and just kinda relaxed a bit until my roommate got home. we ordered sushi for dinner which was pretty good, and then watched legends and batwoman. batwoman of course had a shitstorm in the press today with the Ruby Rose stuff and I'm just like....I'm so tired of this show constantly being embroiled in controversy and just looking worse and worse in everybody's eyes. trying to figure out how we'll address it on the podcast, which should be interesting. the legends episode was decent, I wasn't really a fan of the horror movie vibes from the batwoman episode because that's very much not my thing, but the plot wasn't bad (I liked the parallels about the parents). so yeah, hung out for a bit after that and then showered and started getting ready for bed, and now I'm here. It's just a bit before 12 but I'd like to get to bed because I'm pretty sleepy, so I'm going to do that now. Goodnight friends. Hope you're feeling well, mentally and physically.

hey just wanna say sense im rewatching all the arrowverse shows (and watching the newer ones for the first time) ima update where i am
season 7 ep 6 of arrow
season 5 ep 3 of flash
season 3 ep 12 of supergirl
season 4 ep 5 of legends
im also in the midst of the first quarter of batwoman. im afraid to admit i havent hated it- but that might be because of the higher production value. idk i just dont hate it yet
i also need to watch black lighting but besides that im near elseworlds and im excited for the next big crossover. im to the point that im treading new territory, never been this far.
but heres my opinions (and rankings) of the shows.
arrow is my number one, i love the show even though i hear not a lotta people like it period but hate watch it. i just think it works well- plus it has some of my favorite characters *coughs in rene*.
the legends is my number two mostly because its super fucking funny. thats it its just funny to me, i like the characters and the open flow they have because of time travel. i also like john and finally being able to really see his character is so nice. i also like the villains...sometimes (damien being in pretty much 3 seasons in a row of shows) i love damien but thats to much.
supergirl is my number three. yes thats true i like supergirl over flash...mostly because of season two and 3 so far, i just find it more entertaining more often. not saying i hate flash, actually i still love the first and kinda 3rd season, and find the comic booky bullshit it has in it fun through out the last season and two eps ive watched. but at the end of the day id prefer to watch s2 of super girl over s2/3 (everything besides main story stuff i like in s3. i think savitar ok but at the end of the day i like seeing the chracters be friendly and stop every day criminals more then the big action shit esp for the flash because i loce the characters.) but thats it.
the flash is fourth obvi, but i think soupy and flash or pretty much at an equal spot. like em both pretty mucht he same, they give me similar vibes and over all are funny with characters i like. i just think flash has worse seasons over all, mostly cuz of barry. i dont see the flash as a super serious sad show and having it go all dark like with savitar. it was depressing and annoying. i can have a time with that but whne ur entire seasons about some odd version of barry is all evil and then have a character like julien be added then remove him or have hr die is just why? but thats my opnion lol.
at the end of the day this is all my opinion..i think the shows are alright, none of them horrible or amazing. i dont think more then one season of any of the shows are great and that is prolly sum from arrow. but thats all, bye bye :)

At this point I’m like 90% sure that “Ryan Wilder” is a cover name for Helena Wayne/Kyle. As you can see in this picture below it implies that she likes cats. Helena Wayne/Kyle’s mum is Catwoman. Also, it says that she is highly trained and if she just happened to be the secret love child between Batman and Catwoman (who, I’m guessing, didn’t tell Batman about their secret love child) I pretty certain she would of trained her daughter pretty damn well. It also says she can “kill you with her bare hands”. I’m pretty sure that Catwoman, again, would’ve trained her daughter well enough to do that.
And, judging from the leaked casting tapes it sounds like her mother was murdered by Scarecrow. Reasons? Well, imagine what would happen if someone found out about the BatCat love child. Well, they wouldn’t be the happiest supervillain in the world if they found out a fellow thief is hooking up with Gotham’s resident vigilante. Supervillain logic in this scenario: Murder. Which is how “Ryan’s” mum (Catwoman) ends up dying. So, “Ryan” (or Helena Wayne/Kyle) stays on the streets for a bit, starts doing drugs to drown out her pain (as seen in the casting call). Eventually, Batwoman appears. And “Ryan” becomes inspired by her, so when she ‘disappears’ Ryan goes snooping. She eventually finds the Batsuit under Wayne Enterprises and establishes that Bruce Wayne is Batman (and also her dad). She then realises that since Kate Kane has been running WE she must be Batwoman.
At this point she decides to steal the suit to get revenge on the man who murdered her mum, which doesn’t go so well as we can see from the audition tapes since “The batsuit is practically a computer” but she manages to convince Luke/Mary/Julia that she can help them find Alice/Hush if they help her find Scarecrow. At which point we get into the whole “Ryan” (or Helena W/K) training to be Batwoman and Luke (hopefully!) training to be Batwing. Eventually she ends up either getting fear gassed pretty badly and Luke gives her an antidote based off Bruce’s DNA (which he doesn’t tell her, he just hopes it’ll cure her enough for her to develop an antidote based off her own DNA) which works leading him to connect the dots, OR he gets curious naturally and starts doing some digging into her past which leads to the reveal of her parents. At which point “Ryan” is kinda shocked BUT she’s technically a Wayne which makes her (rightfully) the successor to the bat mantle. But after defeating Scarecrow/Alice/Hush/anyone they decide to add she decides that she doesn’t want to be Batwoman, it’s Kate’s mantle (leaving the opportunity for Kate to reappear- now recast) but says she still wants to be a vigilante. At which point she either decides to make her own mantle (Huntress) or decides that she could take up her Mom’s mantle (Catwoman) but as a hero.
Also, just the relationship between Kara Zor-El/Kara Danvers/Karen Starr aka Supergirl/Powergirl and Helena Wayne/Kyle aka Huntress in the comics is something to be treasured and I just want to see that friendship in a tv show (They both give off major gay vibes when you read some of their interactions in the comics).
Here’s a screenshot of the original casting call for “Ryan”:

Bit late to the party, but FMK: Batman, Nightwing and uhhh Batwoman
(This’ll be our last one for the FMK game, thanks for sending stuff in guys!)
G: This is hard... Batman’s cool, and I love the creepy/soft vibe he has going on, but idk if I’d want to fuck or marry him. Let’s go with fuck Batwoman, marry Nightwing, kill Batman, even though that feels horrible to say.
W: Batwoman oughghghgfvh. I’d love to marry her that sounds great. In regards to the other two... that’s really hard bc Nightwing is super nice and p much the vigilante sex symbol, but I kinda want to know more about the big B man, and Nightwing’s a fucking cheater bc he defected to Blüdhaven. So, I’m gonna fuck Batman and kill Nightwing I guess.
