You snapped your head towards the sound, letting go of Quackity’s hand, “What was that?” You thought that one of the machines in the casino had a malfunction, they were always kind of faulty and they have been going into overdrive with the amount of people gambling on them.

It was not a machine, no, far from it. When you turned, you were shocked by the sight of sand in the far back corner near the Eiffel Tower being blown into the air and scattered across the land in piles.

“You need to run,” You turned back to Quackity. He was shaking in his place, looking down at the ground. You saw a single tear fall from the side of his cheek and hit the ground.

“Run?” You repeated. 

He slowly nodded, “You need to run.”

The explosions came to a halt, leaving you in silence with your boyfriend. He was still shaking in his place, more tears filled his eyes. You could tell by the way he smiled that he was trying to put up a strong front for you, but you were unsure why.

“We had a good run y/n,” He mumbled out. “A great run actually.”

You laughed it off, he always pulled stupid pranks like this. You reached for his hand, “Come on baby, le-”

“You need to fucking run!” Quackity snapped at you, not moving from his stance. “This place is gonna blow up and kill every single person in it. But if you run all the way to a place that no one has claimed and is far from here, you will be safe.”

“What are you on about?” You questioned him. Before he could answer, you looked down and saw what he saw. A tripwire, being squished underneath his weight.

“You need to fucking run. The second I take my foot off this wire, this whole place will be in pieces. Including me.”

You shook your head, “No, no, no! Don’t be so silly! We would’ve already been dead! It was some faulty redstone, you already set some TNT off.”

“There’s repeaters. This was planned. You're right, y/n, we should’ve been blown up already. But this is a redstone repeater trap. This is orchestrated. Someone didn't want TNT flying everywhere so they made repeaters so that only certain areas will blow up in the way that they wanted it to be. Organized, slow, painful...” He calmly explained. “You need to run before something else triggers this wire.”

“This doesn't make any sense!” You yelled. “Who would care so much that they only want certain parts of Las Nevadas gone?”

“I haven’t told you everything,” He quickly admitted. “And I wish I had the time, but unfortunately I don’t. Please, I’ve already watched Charlie die in front of me and I couldn’t do anything about it. This time, I have control. This foot holds power over life and death and I cannot see another person I love die in front of me. Please, for my own sake, run.”

You stared back at him in silence, there had to be another way. You were not about to let him die in front of you. You pulled out your backpack and grabbed some wood, “We can just put this on the wire! It will hold it down and you can run with me!”

“That won’t work y/n! It’s too heavy, it will snap the wire!” Quackity yelled. “You need to run!”

“I’m running away from you!” You yelled back. “I’m not running away just for you to die out here! You don’t even know what’s going on!”

“I pissed off some people y/n. I got some people killed, you know that. I think that this is their way of telling me that I need to pay for what I’ve done. A life for a life.”

You wiped the tears from your eyes, “Just take a step back. Let this whole place blow up with us in it.”

“Me!” He snapped. “I am going to be the only one dying today. God damn it y/n why won’t you run?!”

“Because I love you!” You confessed to him. “I love you. And I love this place that you built! This is my only purpose in life! Without it, I’m nothing. If it’s gonna die, I’m dying with it.”

Quackity reached behind him and pulled his crossbow out, drawing it back and aiming at you, “I love you so much y/n, and you are not dying today. You are going to run away or I am going to make you run away.”

“Then make me!” You screamed. “We’ve accomplished everything we ever wanted, Quackity! We wanted to build this place and we did. We wanted it to be successful and it is. The only thing I have left to do in life is live it out with you and if you’re saying you’re dying tonight, then I’m dying too!”

“No you’re not y/n!” He urged. “Just run the fuck aw-”

You lunged forward with precision, making sure your toe covered the wire and pushed Quackity with all the strength that you had in you. He fell to the ground and covered his ears, waiting for an explosion, but there was none.

He slowly looked up and was terrified at the sight. Right in front of him was the love of his life, his only purpose to be alive, holding down a single wire that was their demise. 

“No!” He yelled. “Why would you do that!”

“Because I am nothing!” You told him. “All that people know about me is that I live here with you! Do you know why that might be? Because that’s all I’ve done in life! Don’t you understand? I make no difference in anyone’s life. But you do. What about Sapnap? What about Sam? And you have unfinished business with Wilbur and Dream and Tommy and all these people!” You looked around at the country surrounding you, “All my life, I’ve only ever known this place. I don’t have any friends except for you, Foolish, and Fundy. When this place is gone, I will suffer. Are you willing to die knowing that you would leave me to suffer?”

He got back on his feet and stood in front of you. He looked into your eyes, seeing his own reflection back at him. He knew in that moment, that he had lost you. There was going to be no more arguing about getting you to leave. You were staying on that wire and there was nothing he could do.

“You can build this place back, Quackity. I can’t,” You explained. “You are so much more wiser and so much better socialized than me. You need to live for that my legacy can live on.”

He turned away from you, his hands behind his back, “It wasn’t worth it.”

“What?” You asked. “Are you saying I wasn’t worth it?”

He turned back to you and carefully took your hands in his, “No, that’s not what I’m saying. You were worth it. Everything about you, everything I did with you, every memory we made, was worth it. But Las Nevadas, all this built up rage, all the enemies I made, it wasn’t worth it. None of this was worth it coming to this moment. You’re gonna die y/n.” He choked out the last part, a sob overcoming him, “I can’t keep up this persona anymore. I’ve lost everything. I lost my best friend, I lost my fiancé's, and now I’m losing you?”

You squeezed his hand, “You are my legacy, Quackity. Keep me alive when I’m gone will you?”

He placed a gentle kiss to your hand, “I will, I promise I will. I’ll build this place back, just like you want. And I’ll make it even better. No more manipulation, no more power...this place will be built back so that I can love you every day that I live.”

“You need to run,” A final tear streamed down your face. He gently wiped it away and held his hand to your cheek one final time. He squinted his eyes shut, holding back his tears.

“I-I love you y/n.”

He slowly backed away, keeping his hand on your cheek as long as he could. Once he had to let go, he turned and let out a sob before turning back. He was telling you something more, but he kept walking away and you couldn’t hear him. He tried to yell so that you could hear him, but he was too far away. He walked over the hill and out of your sight. After a couple minutes...boom.

Quackity stared at the land before him. Which was once all a mess with craters and sand piles, was now flattened and filled to make small highs and lows. Nothing remained. Not a single block, just the land that once held more than a casino.

The land held love, trust, bond... and Quackity promised to keep it that way. Everyday he returned to the now ruined Las Nevadas with a small pot containing your favorite flower and placed it near your grave. Everyday the sand slowly fused with the pot, covering it and making the land look like a natural flower field 

Quackity still has not said a word to anyone. At this point, he isn't sure who placed the wire, but whoever did was filled with rage and anger. He knew now, from yours and Charlie’s death, that it was not worth going to every corner of the map and searching for whoever did this and killing them.

It isn’t worth it.

lighting tommyinnit au

okay so i made this a while ago, like, pretty recently after the final disc war.

So, after Doomsday, Tommy get’s struck by lightning in a world where spontaneously generating powers is normal. Techno has a stupid strong healing factor he got from fighting in the Hypixel arenas when he was a kid. Dream is a speedster and has enhanced reflexes, something he got from the manhunts.

There are other examples, but those two are the most relevant, so there you go. I bet you can see where this whole thing is going.

Tommy get’s struck by lightning, and understandably passes out, because that is thousands of volts going into your body in the span of a second or less. I bet it hurts a fuckton.

Ghostbur is the one that finds him, having been talking to him when it happens. He goes to get Tubbo, who brings him to Sam’s place because he was the only one walking around who actually had a place for Tommy to stay.

Tommy slowly heals and recovers, and has some major side effects from the strike. He’s blind and deaf on his left side, lost his sense of taste, and has frequent muscle spasms that make fine motor control extremely difficult. He has scarring on the left side of his face, neck, shoulder, chest, and back as well as down his left arm, ending about mid-forearm. (If you want to know what it looks like, google “lightning flowers”)

He also has... other side effects, ones that aren’t as explainable. There’s a constant energy building underneath his skin that he can’t explain, like a humming only he can hear. It itches sometimes, and eventually becomes painful with how much of it there was, but more on that in a bit. Time also seems to slow down at random moments, but only to him.

Anyway, the energy builds so much that it gets to the point that he’s curled in a ball in the middle of the night, sobbing in his bed at Sam’s base. It hurting him and he doesn’t know why it’s happening.

Sam is the one who finds him, immediately going to comfort him, but Tommy accidentally electrocutes him.

Now Sam is a creeper hybrid. He can’t be hurt by lightning, but he can’t become charged like a normal creeper does. He’s more shocked than anything else, but Tommy is freaking out because he thinks he’s hurt Sam and he doesn’t know what’s happening. This inevitably causes him to release more electricity, which still isn’t hurting Sam, but it only makes Tommy panic more. Sam’s trying to calm him down and reassure him that he’s fine but Tommy just doesn’t believe him.

Eventually, the electricity stops because Tommy just... ran out of it. He’s still crying and freaking out but there isn’t any more lightning flying everywhere. Sam manages to calm him down, promising him that he’s okay and that Tommy didn’t hurt him.

Tommy shakily asks what the hell just happened, and Sam theorizes that the lightning must have made him generate a power, and that’s what the energy and the time slowing down things were about.

So, they test it out once Tommy’s come to terms with it a bit more in an attempt to help him control it. Tommy is super paranoid about hurting someone accidentally, and he pushes himself into learning how to control it.

They figure out that time isn’t slowing down, Tommy is speeding up. The lightning strike allowed him to become a speedster, like Dream. Their final theory is that Tommy generates electricity, which is what the energy that he feels is. Using his superspeed generates it faster. Occasionally, he needs to release the energy, which is why he can produce lightning and electrocute things. If he doesn’t release it, it will release for him in one huge blast, which causes extreme pain for him and is very lethal to anything around him. It also makes him pass out for a few days.

The incident regarding him accidentally electrocuting Sam was because he releases electricity when he’s distressed or in pain. Tubbo makes a rubber chest plate and gloves he can wear to ensure he doesn’t get shocked when Tommy needs his help.

One of the more funny side effects of his power is that he’s a walking static cloud. Touching people gives them light shocks, not painful, just annoying. If he waves a hand over someone’s head their hair will stand up.

He’s also a walking redstone signal. He can act as a redstone torch, and will often help Tubbo and Sam out on their projects when they need him. If he steps in the wrong place though, he can mess the whole thing up. Tommy is not allowed near TNT, because touching it ignites it like a redstone torch would.

He can carry around a little mini redstone lamp in his pocket and it acts like a flashlight when he takes it out. It’s very useful.

Onto more plot.

So.... Final Disc War.

Tommy and Tubbo are in the weird Hall of Attachments thing, and Dream says he’s going to kill Tubbo, and “there’s nothing you can do to stop me, tommy”

Tommy just steps in front of Tubbo, cracks his knuckles, and replies “that’s what you think, bitch”

Every time Dream tries to grab Tubbo, Tommy slams into him and forces him to change course. They’re chasing each other around the room and they’re fucking running on the walls and ceiling what the fuck.

Eventually Punz and everyone else shows up, and they’re kind of just staring into a mostly empty room with Tubbo standing in the corner and one green blur and one white blur moving sporadically around. Literally only Sam and Tubbo understand what’s happening.

Dream eventually gets the upper hand, injuring Tommy in some way that forces him to stop running. Dream’s crouching over Tommy, gloating about his win, while Tommy’s bleeding everywhere and spitting in his face angrily.

Everyone else is at a standstill. They can’t fire at Dream, because he could just finish Tommy off and run before their arrows even get there, and they can’t rush him, because he can just run off. Tubbo is begging for Dream to spare Tommy and to kill him like they agreed, but Dream refuses, saying that Tommy’s been to much of a pain in the ass to let him live.

Dream raises his sword and prepares to kill Tommy with it, when Tommy grabs onto the blade of the sword and just grins.

You remember how him using his superspeed generated more electricity?

Tommy inhales, and sends literally every single volt of electricity into Dream with one giant light show. You can fucking smell Dream burning, and really only one bolt was needed to kill him, but Tommy keeps going. He sends bolt after bolt into Dream until he’s completely drained dry of electricity and Dream is crumbling away into respawn, the sword falling harmlessly onto the ground.

Tommy just lays there for a few moments as the smoke clears, and then turns his head to Tubbo with a grin and says: “that was pog” before passing the fuck out from the amount of pain that amount of electricity erupting from him caused.

Sam and Tubbo run over to go save Tommy right as Dream respawns. But Sam is too concerned about saving Tommy’s life than putting Dream in prison, because Tommy’s bleeding out and his body is working overdrive just to generate more lightning.

So Dream gets away while Sam and Tubbo bring Tommy back to Sam’s base to heal. Dream only has two lives left, and he goes to Techno, using the favor for shelter and protection until he can get his revenge.

Some cool tidbits me and Belle came up with when we talked about it a few weeks back:

Smoke starts coming off of Tommy’s skin and hair when he’s pissed, and his hair will stand up straight. He can char things too, so imagine a pissed Tommy stalking off and leaving black footprints on the sidewalk behind him.

His eyes glow white sometimes, typically when he’s using his power/when he’s mad or scared. I’m talking full white, glowing Eret eyes. It’s cool to look at.

His hair after the lightning strike turns very very pale blonde instead of the golden blonde it was before.

His lightning flower scars light up when he’s using his superspeed. It looks pretty cool tbh.

When he needs to release electricity, he’ll go out into the woods alone and let it off in slow bursts so it doesn’t hurt as much. The walks are incredibly lonely and he hates having to do it every time. He’s terrified that he’ll accidentally hurt or kill someone if he doesn’t, though, so he does it anyway.

(The way Dream attacks him after the Final Disc War for the first time is when Tommy is on one of these walks and he depletes all his lightning before Dream showed up)

If he completely depletes his electricity, such as like in the Final Disc War, he can’t use his superspeed. There needs to be existing energy for it to kick on. If there isn’t any starter energy, bad news, you aren’t gonna go fast like you want to.

Anyway, yeah, that’s the lightning Tommy au. This is more brainrot than anything else tbh I just like it.

Finally got around to typing te story out. I got distracted by sleep because apparently that's a thing my body needs? Anyway story is inspired by this post by @hermitcraftheadcanons and some cobbled together fanons I've stumbled over while stalking the hermitcraft-tag

Summary: Grian always hides his true self, both to protect himself from the memories and to protect others from the horrors of his past. But in the quiet of his mansion, in the empty rooms, he can let his disguise fall. No one will see him there, no one will find out, especially not with everyone busy with their projects.

But Scar's project is done. Almost. Maybe he could use the input of one of his friends to help him with the last details.

Grian let his disguise fall as he entered the mansion. His perfect skin slowly faded, instead revealing skin covered by white and pink scars in all shapes and sizes. His left eye faded as well, leaving only void and darkness behind, and his right eye became grumbled, but it was a long time since he relied only on his eyes to see. The magic coursing through his veins gave him the ability to sense his surroundings. Not enough to see colors and textures but Pearl used to help him with that and now he was good enough on his own. His magic couldn't help his hearing, but at home he didn't need to hear the emptiness of the mansion and he took his hearing aids off and put them in a chest by the door. He pulled his hand through his hair, flinched as his fingers found one of his scars. He held the hand infront of his face, his one eye staring at the hazy shape it formed infront of him. Did it actually hurt or was it just the memories? He couldn't tell any longer.

His friends were all busy putting the finishing touches on their projects and Grian had planned to work on his own. His mansion was almost done and he wanted to get it completed, but he was so tired. The disguise didn't use a lot of magic, it was easy to maintain since he had worked hard on transferring the image to his subconscious and sometimes he'd even wake up in it, unaware of having summoned it. But he had kept it up for weeks now, while working in Aque, on the HCBBS, on the barge, and it was wearing him down. He stretched, scars across his joints protested and he curled up slightly again. His wings ached, hidden under his sweater where they wouldn't be visible. But everyone was busy working and maybe for once Grian could let all of himself out.

Grian's sweater fell to the floor and two wings flapped slowly behind Grian. He closed his eye, relaxed his shoulders for the first time in months. There were no windows in the mansion, no water where he could catch a hazy glance of his reflection. Nothing to remind him about the Before except the ache in his scars that would never quite heal no matter how many times he respawned. He yawned as a new wave of exhaustion swept over him.

”A bed, a bed. My kindgom for a bed.”

He stumbled more than walked through the empty halls. He didn't need any magic to navigate it, the hazy sight his eye provided was more than enough. There was no furniture, no pets, nothing he could stumble over as he made his way forward. His body ached with every step, the exhaustion making him unable to filter out the pain that was always present and he could usually ignore. He fell into the bed, greeted by Professor Beak. He rolled over to his side, fixed his eye on the parrot.

”We've been through a lot, haven't we?”

He closed his eye, prepared for sleep to pull him under. Professor Beak flew down, landed on the headboard of the bed. Grian's body shuddered as he took a shaky breath.

”It's better now though, isn't it? Taurtis?”

Professor Beak whistled an answer and Grian was pulled away from consiousness.

ScarX was done. Scar stood on top of his giant drill and looked at what he had achieved. Every detail he could think of had been added, no stone left unturned, there were Jellies everywhere. Still, something was missing. He scratched his head, carefully touched the scar on his cheek. Maybe Badtimes could help him figure the missing pieces out. But the Helshermits were just as busy as the hermits, everyone working hard to finish up whatever they were doing. Badtimes would probably just suggest fire anyway and that wouldn't be as helpful as Scar would have liked. Scar fiddled with the communicator in his pocket before deciding to send out a message to his fellow hermits.

Scar put the communicator away again. TNT was not missing from ScarX, but someone had been missing from the TNT-discussion. He frowned and turned in the direction of Grian's mansion. Grian would never miss a chance to blow something up. Maybe he should make sure all was fine and that Grian hadn't gotten stuck in obsessed build-mode again. And despite their differences in buildstyles, they still had similar ideas when it came to building so maybe Grian would be able to help him find the missing detail. He jumped off the drill, fired off a rocket and took to the sky.

Something woke Grian up. A tingling sensation in his neck. Something was coming? Or wrong? He blinked, tried to shake the exhaustion off himself. How long had he slept? Taurtis would wake him up if he slept for too long. He sat up, untangled his legs from the blanket and looked around. A shape was standing in the hallway, staring at him, and Grian's magic was sent into overdrive. His regular disguise started creeping over him, hiding his torn skin and destroyed eyes. Another flash of magic rushed towards the figure and smashed straight into Scar's magic. Grian got to his feet. Scar took a step closer. Could he joke it off? Force Scar to forget it? He clenched and unclenched his hands. His mouth was dry. Watcher magic was coursing through his veins, demanding to be used. He could ban Scar from the server, use his magic to override the code of the world, cause a permadeath. Scar was his friend but no, Watchers didn't have friends and no one could know about Grian's history. He didn't want questions, hugs, pats on the back and pitying looks. Scar took another step closer and Grian still didn't move. Taurtis lifted from the headboard. Professor Beak lifted from the headboard and Grian wanted to tell him to flee. Scar took another step, he was too close now, close enough that Grian didn't need to actively send his magic out to sense Scar. Scar's magic was pressing against Grian's, aggressive in a completely different way than the Watcher's magic was. More unhinged and feral and Grian had never felt it so strongly before. Wings sprouted on Scar's back, thin things that wouldn't be able to carry anyone if they didn't have magic as well. Scar's skin shifted, changed.

Scar was close enough that they could almost touch. Grian's breathing was quick. He needed to have done something five minutes ago and yet his body remained frozen. He wanted to blame the magic oozing from Scar – it was an unknown factor – but he knew there was another reason; he cared. He had allowed himself to relax, to let the perosn infront of him get close. Scar looked at him, his eyes empty and yet so focused. He held his palms towards Grian, as if approaching a scared animal. Grian took a step back, getting closer to cornering himself, but Scar didn't follow.

”You don't have to hide here, Grian.”

Scar's voice was heavy with barely held back magic. It vibrated through the air around them, through Grian's body, and his and Scar's magic worked in unison to get the words past his worsened hearing. Grian shivered. He didn't want to answer, knew he would be unable to keep his own magic at bay if he did.

”We all have our secrets”, Scar continued with a softer voice, ”and we might not understand yours, but we're here when you're ready to tell us.”

Grian couldn't breathe. Scar took a step back, his magic and shape retreatng, returning to normal, but Grian no longer knew what was normal about his friend. Grian got ready to dash past his friend, to send the whole mansion flying with Scar still in it because Scar was too close, Scar knew too much, and there was no way Grian could hide it all back, make it unseen, because watchermagic couldn't fiddle with time in that way. Scar took another step back, started looking through his inventory. Grian prepared to bolt, was just about to run when Scar pulled a piece of red fabric out of his inventory and offered it to Grian.

Grian's hand shook as he reached for the sweater in Scar's hands. He stared at Scar's face, fake black eyes locked onto fake green ones. He had questions, still considered escaping, once again hiding the truth. His fingers touched the fabric. It was more than a sweater at the moment and Grian knew, understood. It was a promise. A promise that Scar would be there, help him keep the secret as long as he needed it and support him through the troubles he had with it. By taking the sweater Grian would accept that, accept Scar's friendship in a deeper way than he had before. By taking the sweater Grian promised that one day he'd stop hiding, at least for Scar.

The scars on Grian's hand ached when he grabbed the sweater, his wings ached as he pulled it over his head and squished them against his back. His body felt drained but he smiled towards Scar.

Annon-Guy: Faust - There's a teaser for a new Overdrive for Faust called Bone Crushing Excitement, which is a 'dark' version of Simulating Fists of Anihilation. In it, he knocks down his opponent after wanting to look at a Clover that sprouted, than when Faust noticed his downed opponent, he grabs a wheelchair to help them up, but he gets carried and CRUSHES his opponents legs, cueing the facial reaction, which is more fluid than in Xrd. What do you think on this new move?

Faust provides comic relief in a way and tradition that dates back to some of the oldest arcade games in existence, like Samurai Shodown with its random bombs and food items, and beatemup games like Final Fight, where you could punch a barrel and get Burgers and Turkey out of it.

It’s been a tradition since the first GG to have some wacky elements associated Dr. Baldhead and later Faust in the GGXX games.

With Baldhead, his command-grab Chaos Attack “Mad Operation” would have him force his opponent on a makeshift operating table as his hands flail about during the operation, ultimately causing the opponent to explode.  (This was later reproduced in Faust’s Xrd Instant Kill.)

Baldhead’s Instant Kill did something similar in that he would stack a series of gravestones on his opponent’s head, but they would only be “killed” by the final nails in the coffin: incense sticks on top of the gravestone.  (In traditional Japanese burial fashion.)

GGX was the first game in the series to feature characters having actual “reactions” to various over-the-top attacks.

And while sometimes these animations were recycled from other situations, it was a creative and humorous way to use the well-drawn sprites back then (for example, if Sol got poked, he’d go Dragon Install for a brief moment).

Faust would also blow up his opponent with a TNT trigger, but it would backfire and cause both characters to have a comical Afro from the explosion, yet another situation where unique sprites were drawn specifically for the event.

These ideas were utilized long LONG before Guilty Gear Xrd did it with virtually every character.

It’s also worth noting that each character had three voice sets that would load at random, and they would say different things and react differently depending on these voice sets.

For every Instant Kill, for every Overdrive attack, you’d have 3 unique reactions PER CHARACTER... that’s a lot of voice samples!  It’s actually surprising that characters DON’T have 3 separate winquotes per individual character battle, like would typically be done in later games like Dragonball FighterZ.

They’ve pushed the envelope even further now with gimmicks like the Helium Balloon (that transforms a character’s voice, making it sound silly), and even an Afro item that completely transforms every frame of animation on a character!

Can you IMAGINE how many frames would need to be redrawn simply for a character with an Afro to replace his or her hair?  But now that the game is fully in 3D, it’s a lot easier to tweak and transform each individual frame on every character.

Now, every character has a ton of reactions, animations, and unique voice situations, and they’ve probably retained the tradition of having system voices of every character, and online greetings for players who want to role play as well!

This is the golden touch of ARC System Works, this is the effort they put in to these games, and what makes them different from just any other fighting game!

Giannis Antetokounmpo still hasn’t forgotten James’ Harden’s stupid criticism of his game

After he hit a game-winning three to beat the Nets, Giannis brought up James Harden saying he only ‘dunks and runs.’

Giannis Antetokounmpo proved himself on the biggest stage in basketball last year by authoring one of the most dominant NBA Finals performances in history. Antetokounmpo dropped 50 points against the series-clinching Game 6 victory against the Phoenix Suns to win his first ring and bring the Milwaukee Bucks their first championship since 1971. In the process, he silenced every silly criticism of his game.

Antetokounmpo’s greatness never should have been in question, of course. He was a two-time MVP by age-25 and had established himself as arguably the best player of his generation. Giannis’ motor was in overdrive at all time, combining elite defense with elite slashing while being one of the greatest physical specimens the game had ever seen. That still didn’t stop some critics from slamming Antetokounmpo for his shaky shooting, among other things.

Giannis hasn’t forgotten the critics now that he’s the top dog in the league. Just look at what he said after an incredible performance against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday.

Giannis, winking, when asked what it meant to become the Bucks' all-time leading scorer: "It's good because I'm changing the narrative. I don't want to be the guy only that dunks and runs. I can make a three."

That comment is a not so thinly veiled reference to James Harden.

It’s hard to remember the Before Times now, but Harden and Antetokounmpo once went head-to-head for the 2019 MVP award. Giannis won, and Harden — who had won in 2018 — was salty about it. During an interview with Rachel Nichols on ESPN, Harden said this:

RN: Daryl Morey your GM had a great line about that. He said ‘being different doesn’t get appreciated until it works.’

JH: Or when I’m done. When it’s all said and done, they will appreciate it more. But I wish I was 7-feet, and could run and just dunk. That takes no skill at all. I have to actually learn how to play basketball and how to have skill. I’ll take that every day.

This was always a ridiculous criticism of Giannis’ game, especially coming from someone who only plays one end of the floor like Harden. Our friends at Secret Base did a full breakdown of the beef:

Giannis was at his absolute best as then Bucks beat the Nets in overtime on TNT on Thursday night. Antetokounmpo went off for 44 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists on 14-of-21 shooting with 15-of-19 shooting from the foul line.

With the game on the line, Antetokounmpo nailed a step-back three for the win.

The best player in the world is either Giannis or Nikola Jokic. Antetokounmpo has been my pick since the start of the season after his tremendous Finals performance.

Meanwhile, it was a rough night for Harden. The guard got what he wanted with a trade to the Philadelphia 76ers, but after a hot start, he’s been struggling immensely as of late. The Sixers lost to the tanking Detroit Pistons on Thursday, 102-94, with Harden finishing just 4-of-15 shooting from the field.

As reporters asked Doc Rivers about a poor performance from Philly’s bench, the head coach said Harden’s off-night was more to blame for the loss.

Harden is losing his status as a top player at age-32 this season. He just isn’t playing like a superstar consistently anymore despite his ability to still reach that status on certain nights. Giannis — still only 27 years old — is ascending more and more each day.

Harden’s numbers with Philly through 16 games look almost identical to his numbers with Brooklyn this season through 44 games. The player we saw average an efficient 36 and 34 points per game only 2-3 years ago seems long gone.

The scary thought for the rest of the NBA? That might have been only the beginning for Giannis. He’s so much more than someone who just ‘dunks and runs.’
