Hold up. When did he decide he’s going to learn—or, re-learn—chess? Leo. Does not know. Really, his brain gets ahead of him sometimes. But he doesn’t even bother tracking the thought process back, because it just… feels right. It makes sense. It makes him excited, actually. To have something to sink his teeth into. Something to focus that fizzy, spinning thing in his brain towards, something he can funnel all this excess energy into. He can get into it, learn all the terms and the fancy moves, get the full scope of it under his grasp until he can win again and again and again. And it’s going to be awesome. It’s going to be fun. (Leo doesn't sleep for a week. Leo gets really good at chess.)

Hi! I have a question about LSoW

In the ref thing for Yoshi, it says his eight front teeth are fake, so like... does that just mean they were fucked up and needed replacing, or was he, like, wholly missing his front teeth when he made it topside...?

Yes!

At some point in his various refusals and attempts to escape the Nexus, Yoshi went on a hunger strike. (I think I mentioned something about it in the opening chapter or second chapter of LSoW. Though I kept it vague on purpose, because Yoshi didn't want to think about it.)

Some guards (with Big Mama's explicit 'turning the other way and not looking' permission) uh. Well, were pretty rough and knocked his front teeth out to get the tube and feeding equipment in. I mean, who cares when Yoshi is getting fixed back up with mystics every other day anyway, they were pretty rough with him in general. (Especially since he was breaking their bones at every opportunity in retaliation.) And bonus, now Big Mama looks better when she 'scolds' the guards for being rough with her precious champion. She did a lot of things like that; keeping him on drugs both willingly and unwillingly, letting his fights be easier if he behaved, etc. Big Mama was very much not nice in this, and Yoshi was there for over a decade. Once again I am pointing out that most of the longest known prisoners of war aren't even kept for that long.

His front four teeth were knocked out and the surrounding ones damaged, so Big Mama had them replaced with mystic porcelain so he still looked good for the ring and posters. (And herself.) Something similar happened with his arm, where he refused to fight and someone got a really good blow in before Big Mama caught on and pulled him from the match. He had to have it reattached!

So he had teeth there when he escaped! In fact, they're much stronger than his real teeth.

Credit to @tangledinink for the long conversations we have twirling our hair, and talking about how terrible the Battle Nexus probably was for Yoshi. Their latest chapter of TMWN was made for me especially.
