Spoilers for the TMNT 40th Anniversary Comics Celebration, TMNT 2012’s “Kraang Among Us” by Ciro Nieli

So can we say this confirms (maybe) that in TMNT 2012, 1 season = 1 year??

So that whole Mikey saying he’s still 15 in S3 is absolute bs

My best guess is that this story takes place after Seasons 4. I’ve always saw the arcs in S5 as epilogues (minus mutant apocalypse) so S5 might be a long shot, but could also make sense.

This transformation was beautiful illustrated and the whole sequence was absolutely terrifying. I remember a couple years ago Ciro Nieli was interviewed in an article and he stated that if he ever had a chance to make a sequel for the 2012 series, he would have it take place during the turtles young adulthood where the Kraang would return and the store would be something similar to the horror movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Over all, I would LOVE a follow up to this! If Ciro could make it possible to have the 2012 series continue as a comic and continue on with this story along with returning all the other 2012 characters like April, Casey, Karai, Mutanimals, Mona Lisa, Renet etc. I’d be very happy!

I love the box art for the older DVD releases of the 2003 TMNT show. I was disappointed that they edited the scene where Hamato Yoshi's spirit sliced Tengu Shredder in half. Some scenes in some of the episodes had a weird blurring effect. Some of these OOP box sets are a bit expensive if you're looking to get them in the best condition possible but it's totally worth it though. Turtles Forever in the Ultimate Collection box set wasn't the uncut version either sadly. At least they did release the uncut version in the UK. Nice to own my favourite TMNT show with everything intact.

I bought some of the volumes too because they had special features on them like interviews with Peter Laird. The Australian and UK releases of Vol: 6 Shredder Strikes Back had an alternate ending for the episode 'The King'.

Nice to have all of the 1987 and 2012 episodes on DVD too. I wish they did Blu-ray releases for 1987, 2003 and 2012. That Japanese OVA was a bit random lol

Even have Next Mutation in the collection despite the majority of TMNT fans hating it. I grew up with it so I have a soft spot for it lol Can't wait for the 4K release of the 1990 movie which I think is coming next year. TMNT 2014 and OOTS look good on 4K. Batman vs TMNT looks awesome on 4K too.

I wish they would do an official complete series Blu-ray release of Rise and for the movie too. The artwork on the 4K Mutant Mayhem steelbok looks cool too.

He Has TWO!?

So I’m sure at this point everyone is aware of the Medic!Leo headcanon in the Rise fandom. And I tell ya, I am HERE FOR IT!

So happy my boy is getting as much love as he is in the show. But that aside, I noticed something. 

So I was rewatching ROTTMNT, and I’m not sure if this has been noticed or analyzed but I figured, eh what the heck. It’s not gonna hurt anyone. (I hope). 

And as I was watched “Many Unhappy Returns” (S2, ep1) I noticed something particularly interesting. 

Leo’s got 2 fanny packs/pouches. 

Don’t believe me? Or, “I don’t see it” or “just an animation error, his pouch switches sides.” 

Well, look:

That looks like a second separate fanny pack to me

As we all probably know, the medic!Leo headcanon was born because out of all the turtles he’s the only one to have a pouch connected to his belt. And I unfortunately can’t find the source anymore. But in an interview one of the writers/animators (someone who worked on the show) was asked what Leo carries in his pouch. And they responded: “I don’t know, probably a med kit.”

I don’t know about you guys, but I think that fuels the headcanon even more. And personally, this is just me, but I feel like Leo being the medic can work. I mean Leo has shown that he can be smart when he wants to. And before he became the leader he’s always declared he’s the face man. 

I think this falls under his inferiority complex, because in the episode “Portal Jacked” (S1, ep17a) he blatantly says to Senior Hueso: “I’m nothing without them!” 

Also, and I know this is a stretch, but I think (considering the headcanon) that if Leo feels this about himself. He probably also thinks that he’s not able to contribute to the team like the others can besides being the “faceman” and say his “one-liners.” So by him also being the team medic, he has something he can at least help with (at least in his mindset).

12 Apriltello has been my current hyperfixation (there!!! I said it!!) and I've also read the TMNT 12 comics which shows April's interaction with the turtles (the fact that donnie never called her "my sweet chinchilla" or "my sweet princess" in the comics but just a simple "hey April!" I found it quite shocking but I have no problem with that at all 😄😃, I love their bonding as best buds in the comics!💜💛💜💛) Another reason why I got into TMNT 2012 (not just apritello), but also the voice actors, especially Rob Paulsen (He is such a great talented man😭😭💯💯👏👏😍🥰) I dunno how many times I've been rewatching his panel interviews and he keeps talking about apritello, reacting apritello fanarts on DA along with Ciro Nieli, teasing their fans about his pov about the wholeee apritello stuff made me biting my toes FR !!!😫😭💕💕💕😂😂😂🤣🤣 (Oh yeah, I've also heard both Rob and Mae are a huge apritello shipper!🥰🥰🥰)

TMNT 2012: The chaos with Season 5 + Nickelodens failure.

The post should originally different but the more I dug into it...the more interesting stuff I found.

Not only is the TMNT 2012 Community in divide what the true ending is and rather or not S.5 is canon...BUT the TMNT 2012 Crew themselves are also divided.

I did some research and found..some interesting stuff.

Yes, it's the production order but you wanna another reason: Renet and Mikey chat together in Worlds Collide. Either they really met in secret or Renet gave her hologram thing afterwards.

Season 5 canonically is EXTREMLY questionable and no "Tales" doesn't confirm it's non-canon because it can be in Theory also an after story....and the Titel in inspired from a Mirage.

So it CAN hint as AU but it's not 100% clear

Conclusion:

What the ending is and what's canon or not is...up to you.

The Crew is divided as is the Community.

It's really rather or not if you prefer believing Nickeloden or the Crew or how you see it.

I personally see it like:

Owari is the end of the Story.

The Mutant Apocalypse is the ending of the Series due to it's production order.

The Big Blowout is the series finally due to it's Air Date.

I personally see Season 5 mostly canon expect the The Mutant Apocalypse.

Nickelodeon's Failure on TMNT

You wanna know what's bullshit?

The Crew themselves seem disappointed that the Series ended like that.

But Nickeloden said "Hey, let's make ROTTMNT WHILE TMNT2012..what can go wrong?".

What has gone wrong:

TMNT 2012 had no real ending and the ending it got is disappointment.

ROTTMNT failed because it was rushed and barley promoted because it came too soon.

TMNT 2012 & ROTTMNT fans hate Nickelodeon for messing up TMNT.

And the worst part:

BOTH 2012 & ROTTMNT had A LOT leftovers, scrapings and more.

Yes, TMNT 2012 could have had a 6th Season, the Crew didn't said no...Nickeloden didn't wanted another Season.

What's left: Many characters still alive but with plot-holes like Fugitoid or the Squirrelanoids.

Not only that but while researching I found an Interview from 2019 where Ciro Nieli told an idea for a "spin-off" of TMNT 2012 INSPIRED from the ROTTMNT Movie with the only problem being Nickeloden.

ROTTMNT being cancelled, had too many stuff scrapped Episodes and the Movie was dragged for 2 years because of Nickelodeon and also failed terrible in the toy market due to low promotion.

Fans are left with 2 seasons and just some extras on YT.

I hate to say it..but it seems TMNT TV cartoons have reached their end, Nickeloden still owns TMNT and they messed the last two up by not planning, cancelling and more.

I love actor AU’s! Where’d you get the idea for it?

I always kind of had this AU idea this TMNT 2012 first aired.

I got more inspired by it when a couple years ago I saw fanart of the Tangled Series where the characters of the cartoon show were being interviewed about the animated cartoon show! For example, Rapunzel was talking about how she is so happy she gets to break out the blonde hair extensions and wig again, while Cassandra was talking about how honored she has to be a part of the franchise.

The concert was funny to me and I started thinking of my own version with the 2012 series of TMNT.

Admittedly, I am not a mega TMNT fan as I have not seen every show but I am excited for the upcoming movie. But the way everyone has been acting towards the reveal that Leo will have a crush on April just seems like an overreaction? 

My biggest issue is that everyone is saying April is “clearly an adult” but that has not been confirmed? In the leaked storyboard, she is able to sneak the turtles inside a high school but that doesn’t automatically make her a teacher or staff member. It’s possible she’s a bit older but it’s likely she’s a teen like them. Yeah she’s interviewing them in the teaser but it’s possible she’s just a school reporter or has a podcast. At least wait until she has a confirmed age before making a big deal out of this.

Yes it’s fine to be worried when the 2012 show didn’t handle that too well with April and Donnie but it’s too early to say this movie will make the same mistakes. Also, I feel like fans just need to accept this movie will be a reboot and things will be different. April’s dynamic will not be exactly the same as with the turtles as it was in Rise or any other incarnation. 

It’s possible it will end up being a one-sided, puppy love crush. She might not reciprocate his feelings! The movie is clearly aiming to show aspects of them being teens and getting crushes is just one of those things that happens around their age. If April does end up being too old for him, I doubt they’ll lean to heavy on the romance. It’s okay for them to explore that. 

I think it’s unfair to just assume the worst when we still don’t know much about their character dynamics. Heck, it’s likely if they do end up together it’ll be cute and healthy. It’s so rare for fat, black girls to be seen as a love interest so this can be something great if it’s done properly.

Thinking About One Idea The Creator and Director Mentioned

Note: There will be a spoiler for the 2012 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I know it sounds weird, but it will make sense in the post.

When asked if the creators or cast mentioned any ideas about what would could have happened, I thought about the part where they mentioned Arkayna dying at the end of episode 26. According to the idea, the Mysticons would have had to go to another plane to bring her back. It was cut because Nickleodeon said it was too dark for them (Overly Animated, 2018).

Personally, I don't think that it would have been too dark, as long as the show handled it correctly. After all, in the 2012 version of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", Master Splinter was killed off in the episode "Requim", only coming back as a spirit. While it may be different because Master Splinter isn't one of the main characters (i.e. not one of the turtles), I would argue that he's important enough to the story to be compared to a main character, such as Arkayna. Since Arkayna would come back when the Mysticons retrieve her, I would say that it wouldn't be too dark, considering what Nickleodeon did in the past. The TMNT episode also aired before Mysticons even began, with "Requim" airing in the U.S.A in February 2017 (Turtlepedia, n.d), and the Mysticons's first episode airing internationally in August of that year (The Mysticons Chronicles, n.d), so it's not the case of TMNT being the first, and Mysticons missing the mark.

However, as I've said earlier, it would have to be handled correctly. As the character death shouldn't last long, there would be no room for filler, or treating Arkayna's death like restoring the parents, where it's occasionaly brought up. Considering the death would have happened at the end of episode 26, I would expect episode 27 to at least mention the plane, and preferably for the Mysticons to go inside it. Episode 28 then would have them find Arkayna, maybe dragging into episode 29 at most before getting out.

The reason I didn't mention this in what I hoped happened in the series is simply that I'm glad it didn't happen. While I don't think it's too dark, I personally think that Arkayna and Zarya get too much focus in the show, at the expense of Em and Piper (something I will discuss in a later post). Killing off Arkayna would have made this worse, especially since, if the sister thing was planned before the death got changed, Zarya would know Arkayna is her twin, putting a lot of the emotions on her. Also, it would take episodes away from Proxima's struggles with the mask, which I felt was interesting.

In short, I don't think that Arkayna dying in the series would be too dark, as long as they brought her back quickly. However, I like that they left it out, as I feel the story overall may have suffered because of it.
