Hey y'all, I've hit some big milestones in the past month fandom-wise, particularly some big round numbers of tumblr followers and my first fic(s) to hit 1000 kudos, ever, which is mind blowing to me as someone who's mostly existed to this point in pretty quiet fandoms. I'm also imminently posting my 100th work on AO3, and all of this calls for a celebration!

So now YOU can request a fic from ME! All you have to do is drop into my ask box with a ship and a location, et voilà! A fic just for you. To spell out the rulz, the steps are:

A ship of your choice (firstprince, napollya, or lokius)

A location—please do not be limited by canon settings, most of you know I'm an AU queen these days. I encourage you to go wild! They can be as unusual (space! a fantasy world!) or mundane (the grocery store! the dmv!) as you like. (Although I dare someone to send the White House or Kensington, I WILL make it into an AU. I am living for your Man from UNCLE rewatch because I'm in the middle of a rewatch of the early years of NCIS (with David McCallum) and it's so fun to see him in his early days.

Isn't it?? I'm so glad someone else is getting Something out of my current fixation lol. But Ducky was always one of my favorite parts of NCIS and I knew Gibbs' early remark to Kate about what Ducky looked like in his younger days being "picture Illya Kuryakin" was a reference but it's so fun seeing him here.

Fun facts I have learned are that David/Illya was originally just supposed to be the bit part sidekick but everyone loved David so much they made his role bigger. David also apparently had a bad reaction to penicillin in the early days and ended up in the hospital where he passed the time by coming up with ways to improve his character and he decided to make Illya vague and taciturn and mysterious and the fans ate. it. up. David is also, reportedly by MGM, the actor to receive the most fanmail at the studio from any of their productions to date.

(I stopped watching ncis when Tony left and I definitely haven't had the heart to watch Ducky's ending episodes - but I saw they gave him a lil corgi named Solo 😭😭😭😭 I hope you are enjoying your rewatch! The early few seasons were the best imho.)

1. Three ships: I'm technically ship-agnostic in the traditional sense, but if we include the whole relationship spectrum and not just the sexual end of it: TOS Kirk+Spock+McCoy, Loki+Mobius, TV Solo + Kuryakin

2. First ever ship: OG Holmes+Watson. I blew through the ACD Holmes canon at 9 years old, before I ever knew what a hyperfixation (or fanfiction) was.

3. Last Song: My working playlist is allllll over the place, but High Hopes (Panic! at the Disco)

4. Last Film: The Man from UNCLE (2015), if we're talking full film. I don't have a long attention span, so I tend to fast-forward through familiar favorites instead of sitting still for 90 minutes at a time.

5. Currently reading: Good Omens (cast production Audible edition)

6. Currently Watching: Outside of fandom shows, Air Disasters (Paramount+). I'm studying problem disambiguation for work-related things, and it's typically a great way to outline clearly that there's never one reason something goes badly wrong.

7. Currently consuming: Starbucks Peppermint Mocha chilled espresso drink. I love Fall, but y'all can keep your gross pumpkin spice crap well away from me

Fic Rec Friday

thanks to @welcometololaland, @actual-sleeping-beauty, and @rmd-writes for the tags! I gotta be honest it took me a while to figure out what I was gonna rec in this one. I have the opposite problem as Rae in that I don't tend to get that emotional about things I'm reading, plus I tend to avoid (now more than I used to) topics I think will make me sad. BUT I figured it out!

This week's theme is: a fic that made you cry / feel all the feelings

RWRB: A Picture on Your Corkboard by bleedingballroomfloor God, this fic destroyed me. I almost didn't read it because I'm not usually one for amnesia fics, but I took a shot and the big angsty parts were brutal but so, so good. I can't explain why it's so good—and why it hurt more than your usual angst—without spoilers but iykyk. Thankfully for everyone this one has a happy ending.

Loki: thicker than water by @mirilyawrites Mobius dealing with his trauma post season 1 revelations, dealing with the guilt of everything he's done... this was so real and so beautifully done, and just broke my heart. I know we'll never get anything like this in canon but this fic is canon to me.

TMFU: The Be and End All by ingu This fic is WHY I don't read unhappy endings anymore. I mean, I'm reccing it because it's so so beautiful, and if you want to be absolutely massacred there's no better way to do it. It hurts all the more because of how perfectly it fits the situation and the characters in canon, the end feels as inevitable as it is brutal. Do not say I didn't warn you.

But then I didn't learn my lesson because I'm also going to rec (also TMFU, this one is OT3) Forever is the sweetest con by @heytheredeann Ok, this is MCD, so you know what you're getting into. I literally had to take a break reading this one because it was hurting me too much. But the structure of it, working backwards in time, is so brilliant and makes it SO MUCH WORSE. I'm tearing up just THINKING about it. GAH. (ily Ely)

"the yukon affair" (2x14) is a mixed bag of an episode—mildly interesting plot meets period typical racism/cultural insensitivity, which happens a lot on tmfu—but i love the character of murphy so much; she's shown to be super smart (she's a mcgill grad!) and self-reliant, she's super proud of her people, her character is given a fair amount of nuance in regard to how she talks about navigating both the western and indigenous worlds and the struggles therein ("it's not easy to be part one thing and part another. no one treats you as if you're real"), her chemistry with illya is spot on (their flirting featuring the line "i've always adored blonde men" is so fun), and it's cute to see her give him and napoleon a kunik at the end of the episode before she heads back to school to get her master's (back at mcgill!). of the innocents we see throughout the series (especially when episodes are otherwise mid to bad) i think she's one of the stronger ones overall!

939,623! Almost a million yay!

3. What fandoms do you write for?

At the moment mostly TMFU, I have been getting into writing Banana Fish fic too, and I write for The Witcher, though less frequently than TMFU.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Yesssss, I'm like constantly behind and sometimes I answer months late, but I love answering because 1) comments make me so happy and I want the readers who took the time to let me know they enjoyed the fic to KNOW THAT, 2) talking about fics is SO much fun, I think that discussing things in the comments is the best part of posting.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

LOOOOOOOOOOOL filter for MCD on my Ao3 and take your pick. But I'd go with either Forever is the sweetest con (Napoleon/Illya/Gaby, TMFU) because the story is told backwards, so you start with post-MCD and end pre-MCD, so the ending is happy but. well. the happiness is gone already and you know it LOL, or maybe Meaner than my demons, colder than this home (Napoleon/Illya/Gaby, TMFU), purely because generally speaking when I play with MCD I kill just one of them off and leave the other two to pick up the pieces, but here there's just Napoleon left, so. probably worse than the others LOL.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Sooo, I tend to write one-shots, and I HAVE written fluffy fics, but I think I'll go with Something gets lost from a safe distance (Napoleon/Illya, TMFU) because it's part of a three-part series that's all emotional hurt/comfort, and then it ends with fluffy kissing so.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Eh, it has happened, I think it's inevitable if you have been doing this for long enough LOL.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Nope.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Not usually, I did write a TMFU/Supernatural crossover though LOL.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I’m aware of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yesss, more than once and it's always extremely flattering that someone would want to go through all that effort <3

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Right now I feel particularly strongly about the TMFU OT3 but like. I love so many.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I HAVE MULTIPLE LONGFICS SITTING IN MY DRAFTS DAMMIT. I just never want to post longfics unless I have either a first draft for every chapter or at the very least an extremely detailed outline for every chapter, which means that I end up always posting one-shots LOL. Two notable mentions among these longfics are a "Napoleon gets amnesia and bullshits his way through it to avoid telling anyone because he has trust issues" fic and an AU with Illya as a ghost that's a whole angsty mess. help me.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Eeeeeeeh the emotions I'd say. Or I HOPE so, since that's pretty much 80% of my writing loooool Also there a lot of lines of dialogue that I come up with that I unironically like.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Plots for one, I just tend to write snapshots with no real plot most of the time, and action. I don't LIKE writing it, which means I can never tell if it's boring or if I'm just projecting, and I tend to avoid it. ...also romance/attraction/getting-together. My aroace ass never knows what is believable romance and what are just tv show tropes that are not actually real LOL.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I generally don't do it and keep to the language of the narration, just clarifying "X says in German" if there's a change of language. I write limited third POV, so I just see it as "filtering" everything through the lens of the person that we are seeing the perspective of. If I'm writing from Gaby's POV, for instance (she's German but fluent in English), I feel like TECHNICALLY the narration should be in German, so by writing in English I have already chosen a filter that is not 100% accurate. But that's the filter I'm going with, so English is the language that Gaby is communicating to the reader in, so everything should be communicated through English lens: if she's talking to someone in English, I will just write the lines with no specifications, if she's talking in German I still write in English and write "in German" in the narration, and if someone speaks a language she doesn't know I don't write the actual dialogue because she doesn't understand it, so the reader doesn't get to see it either.

I hope this makes some sort of sense LOOOOOL, I don't really mind any way I've seen this done, but this is how I prefer to go about it.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

The Fallen book series. LOL.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Evil question, go directly to jail, do not collect 100$. This answer will absolutely change every five minutes, but right now I'm particularly feeling Souvenir from a life left behind (Napoleon/Illya, TMFU), just a tiny dissolution of UNCLE fic with Napoleon angsting.

How did you get into the Lokius and/or TMFU fandoms originally?

I got in the Lokius fandom quite naturally as I already was into Marvel and liked Loki a lot (though I didn't ship him with anyone at the time). I still didn't watch the series immediately as I was busy at the time. I didn't even know Owen Wilson was playing in it, until one day my sister came with her phone and asked me "you want to see Owen Wilson speak French?" and, well, I had already heard him speak french in Oreo ads, but how could I say no to more French speaking Owen Wilson? She showed me the church scene where Mobius talks to the little girl and I was stunned because "??!!Owen Wilson is in the Loki show?? With a moustache!!??" I was even more willing to watch it 😁

It wasn't long once I did for me to ship Loki with agent Mobius Mobius Mobius 😊. Loki, after all his comments about humans (and Thor's relationship with Jane), getting to know, trust, fall for someone that could be described as "just some guy", and Mobius who cares, opens a door, and starts to question his entire reality because he trusts in Loki...

(Also, fun fact (well, not sure it is fun but...) that I heard the ship name "Lokius" before I knew of Mobius and I imagined that it must have included Loki and some guy name Lucius...)

As for TMFU, I remember seeing the movie posters in train stations and being a bit confused at first. Because the title: "the Man from UNCLE" had been translated to "Agents très spéciaux : Code UNCLE" ("Very special agents: code UNCLE") and, as it happens, the TV show "White Collar" is called "FBI: duo très spécial" in French ("FBI: very special duo"...don't ask me why, seems like french translators like special agents a lot...), well my first thought was that they made a movie based on the series. A few research later I realised it wasn't the case... Still, a funny spie movie set in the 60s, an American and a Russian working together? I knew I had to see it!

And I loved it so much honestly I went twice to the cinema to see it! After seeing it once, I didn't know if I liked Illya/Gaby or Illya/Napoleon better, but upon seeing it twice, I realised I was more of a Napollya fan (that scene with the "You know what my mission is?"...it really gets to me 😆).
