Hey y'all, I've hit some big milestones in the past month fandom-wise, particularly some big round numbers of tumblr followers and my first fic(s) to hit 1000 kudos, ever, which is mind blowing to me as someone who's mostly existed to this point in pretty quiet fandoms. I'm also imminently posting my 100th work on AO3, and all of this calls for a celebration!

So now YOU can request a fic from ME! All you have to do is drop into my ask box with a ship and a location, et voilà! A fic just for you. To spell out the rulz, the steps are:

A ship of your choice (firstprince, napollya, or lokius)

A location—please do not be limited by canon settings, most of you know I'm an AU queen these days. I encourage you to go wild! They can be as unusual (space! a fantasy world!) or mundane (the grocery store! the dmv!) as you like. (Although I dare someone to send the White House or Kensington, I WILL make it into an AU. There’s a way in which Napoleon understands the world to work. He understands that when he leaves a popstar’s or a model’s or an actress’ house and someone takes a picture, it will drive the interest in his life up. He knows that when he has a movie coming out and he picks a woman to be seen with, the tabloids are going to make fun of him but write about him all the same. He understands that it doesn’t matter what filth they choose to describe him with - especially since he’s come out - it only drives the interest in his name. So, he did it. Oh, he had fun doing it, too. But lately, the whole system seems to be breaking down.

You see, it’s a Friday night and he’s cooked an elaborate meal for two with no desire to go out. He’s not itching for the next beautiful thing in his bed. No, he wants Illya to look at him, wants to hear the plot to his new novel only so they can pick it apart together. He wants to see if he can find the part that makes the tips of Illya’s ears go red as he mumbles something about it being inspired by something that Napoleon had said or done.

He’d met Illya by accident as he’d ducked into his local bookshop to grab something to read during his upcoming press tour. Everything had been as always but then there he’d been. And nothing had ever been the same again.

Oh, Napoleon had fully intended to get him ‘out of his system’. But then he’d been drawn back to him, over and over again. And now it’s been a year and he’s not sure that he wants to stop.

A year of sneaking through the back entrees of hotels and paying ridiculous sums to keep people quiet when inevitably something would leak somewhere. There’s another rumor brewing online - spurred on by the premier he’d attended by himself. He’s seeing someone and it isn’t casual this time.

When Napoleon brushes past Illya who is sitting at his counter, laptop open in front of him, an arm snakes out to pull him in. This is anything but casual, alright.

“You ready for dinner?” Napoleon asks.

“Yes. Just tell me when,” Illya says and with him perched on the stool, they’re face to face. It’s an opportunity that Napoleon won’t pass up. He leans in and steals a kiss.

Despite his newfound secrecy, his movies had sold. Illya had even talked him into doing a small indie project, something he wouldn’t have dared to accept before. He hadn’t come this far to see his name fade back into obscurity. Now, somehow, Napoleon can’t find it in him to be afraid of it.

Because, somehow, Illya is still here. Staying, day after day. There’s a reason why he hadn’t let himself get attached in years. But somehow, Illya seems to defy every rule. He doesn’t care about his fame or his money. He doesn’t care about Napoleon’s dating history or his job. It’s like he’s a glitch in the system and now that Napoleon has found him, he’s not going to let him go. At least, if he has anything to say about it.

“What?” Illya asks. “I can see you’re thinking about something.”

“Mmmh. Just thinking you’re the glitch in my system,” Napoleon says.

“Doesn’t sound very flattering.”

Napoleon chuckles and smoothes Illya’s hair back. “You know, I really thought I knew how my life would play out. And then there was you. I was supposed to sweat you out but-”

“Here you are.”

“Here I am. And I’m not even sorry about it.” Let them talk their talks. As long as he has this, everything else doesn’t really matter. And it surprises no one more than Napoleon himself.

1. Three ships: I'm technically ship-agnostic in the traditional sense, but if we include the whole relationship spectrum and not just the sexual end of it: TOS Kirk+Spock+McCoy, Loki+Mobius, TV Solo + Kuryakin

2. First ever ship: OG Holmes+Watson. I blew through the ACD Holmes canon at 9 years old, before I ever knew what a hyperfixation (or fanfiction) was.

3. Last Song: My working playlist is allllll over the place, but High Hopes (Panic! at the Disco)

4. Last Film: The Man from UNCLE (2015), if we're talking full film. I don't have a long attention span, so I tend to fast-forward through familiar favorites instead of sitting still for 90 minutes at a time.

6. Currently Watching: Outside of fandom shows, Air Disasters (Paramount+). I'm studying problem disambiguation for work-related things, and it's typically a great way to outline clearly that there's never one reason something goes badly wrong.

439! The plan is posting two more tonight so hopefull that will soon be 441 LOL.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

939,623! Almost a million yay!

3. What fandoms do you write for?

At the moment mostly TMFU, I have been getting into writing Banana Fish fic too, and I write for The Witcher, though less frequently than TMFU.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Yesssss, I'm like constantly behind and sometimes I answer months late, but I love answering because 1) comments make me so happy and I want the readers who took the time to let me know they enjoyed the fic to KNOW THAT, 2) talking about fics is SO much fun, I think that discussing things in the comments is the best part of posting.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

LOOOOOOOOOOOL filter for MCD on my Ao3 and take your pick. But I'd go with either Forever is the sweetest con (Napoleon/Illya/Gaby, TMFU) because the story is told backwards, so you start with post-MCD and end pre-MCD, so the ending is happy but. well. the happiness is gone already and you know it LOL, or maybe Meaner than my demons, colder than this home (Napoleon/Illya/Gaby, TMFU), purely because generally speaking when I play with MCD I kill just one of them off and leave the other two to pick up the pieces, but here there's just Napoleon left, so. probably worse than the others LOL.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Sooo, I tend to write one-shots, and I HAVE written fluffy fics, but I think I'll go with Something gets lost from a safe distance (Napoleon/Illya, TMFU) because it's part of a three-part series that's all emotional hurt/comfort, and then it ends with fluffy kissing so.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Eh, it has happened, I think it's inevitable if you have been doing this for long enough LOL.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Nope.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Not usually, I did write a TMFU/Supernatural crossover though LOL.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I’m aware of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yesss, more than once and it's always extremely flattering that someone would want to go through all that effort <3

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Right now I feel particularly strongly about the TMFU OT3 but like. I love so many.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I HAVE MULTIPLE LONGFICS SITTING IN MY DRAFTS DAMMIT. I just never want to post longfics unless I have either a first draft for every chapter or at the very least an extremely detailed outline for every chapter, which means that I end up always posting one-shots LOL. Two notable mentions among these longfics are a "Napoleon gets amnesia and bullshits his way through it to avoid telling anyone because he has trust issues" fic and an AU with Illya as a ghost that's a whole angsty mess. help me.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Eeeeeeeh the emotions I'd say. Or I HOPE so, since that's pretty much 80% of my writing loooool Also there a lot of lines of dialogue that I come up with that I unironically like.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Plots for one, I just tend to write snapshots with no real plot most of the time, and action. I don't LIKE writing it, which means I can never tell if it's boring or if I'm just projecting, and I tend to avoid it. ...also romance/attraction/getting-together. My aroace ass never knows what is believable romance and what are just tv show tropes that are not actually real LOL.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I generally don't do it and keep to the language of the narration, just clarifying "X says in German" if there's a change of language. I write limited third POV, so I just see it as "filtering" everything through the lens of the person that we are seeing the perspective of. If I'm writing from Gaby's POV, for instance (she's German but fluent in English), I feel like TECHNICALLY the narration should be in German, so by writing in English I have already chosen a filter that is not 100% accurate. But that's the filter I'm going with, so English is the language that Gaby is communicating to the reader in, so everything should be communicated through English lens: if she's talking to someone in English, I will just write the lines with no specifications, if she's talking in German I still write in English and write "in German" in the narration, and if someone speaks a language she doesn't know I don't write the actual dialogue because she doesn't understand it, so the reader doesn't get to see it either.

I hope this makes some sort of sense LOOOOOL, I don't really mind any way I've seen this done, but this is how I prefer to go about it.

The Fallen book series. LOL.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Evil question, go directly to jail, do not collect 100$. This answer will absolutely change every five minutes, but right now I'm particularly feeling Souvenir from a life left behind (Napoleon/Illya, TMFU), just a tiny dissolution of UNCLE fic with Napoleon angsting.

Fic Rec Friday

thanks to @welcometololaland, @actual-sleeping-beauty, and @rmd-writes for the tags! I gotta be honest it took me a while to figure out what I was gonna rec in this one. I have the opposite problem as Rae in that I don't tend to get that emotional about things I'm reading, plus I tend to avoid (now more than I used to) topics I think will make me sad. BUT I figured it out!

This week's theme is: a fic that made you cry / feel all the feelings

RWRB: A Picture on Your Corkboard by bleedingballroomfloor God, this fic destroyed me. I almost didn't read it because I'm not usually one for amnesia fics, but I took a shot and the big angsty parts were brutal but so, so good. I can't explain why it's so good—and why it hurt more than your usual angst—without spoilers but iykyk. Thankfully for everyone this one has a happy ending.

Loki: thicker than water by @mirilyawrites Mobius dealing with his trauma post season 1 revelations, dealing with the guilt of everything he's done... this was so real and so beautifully done, and just broke my heart. I know we'll never get anything like this in canon but this fic is canon to me.

TMFU: The Be and End All by ingu This fic is WHY I don't read unhappy endings anymore. I mean, I'm reccing it because it's so so beautiful, and if you want to be absolutely massacred there's no better way to do it. It hurts all the more because of how perfectly it fits the situation and the characters in canon, the end feels as inevitable as it is brutal. Do not say I didn't warn you.

But then I didn't learn my lesson because I'm also going to rec (also TMFU, this one is OT3) Forever is the sweetest con by @heytheredeann Ok, this is MCD, so you know what you're getting into. I literally had to take a break reading this one because it was hurting me too much. But the structure of it, working backwards in time, is so brilliant and makes it SO MUCH WORSE. I'm tearing up just THINKING about it. GAH. (ily Ely)

ok i decided to limit myself to just 10 of my all time favorite whump fics. these are ones that i return to all the time, that i reread whenever i'm having a bad day, you know the vibe. all of them are very dear to me and i hope someone else will enjoy them too!!! i'll put them under a readmore since this got a bit long :)

Caged by Cargo - 911. Cargo is one of my absolute favorite writers and i've been in love with this fic for a longass time. the emotions and caretaking are absolutely top tier, and there's a lovely blend of emotional and physical whump. summary: "As Eddie stands in his kitchen after returning home from tonight's fight, he finally cracks. He starts falling apart and he knows there's only one person in the entire world he trusts to pick up the pieces. It's why he's dialling Buck's number before he even knows he has his phone in his hands."

Bloodshot Soul by OrionLady - bourne series. this one straight up has made me cry i can't even lie. it's a beautiful and very genuine exploration of the characters and the emotional whump is wonderfully painful. summary: "He cannot fathom why a crusty old skipper would care so much about a strange John Doe he fished out of the water, why he would smile and touch his shoulder and feed him pie. Then again, there are many things he doesn’t understand yet. The closer he and Giancarlo get, the less he wants to remember. An exploration into Jason and Giancarlo’s friendship during his two weeks aboard the fishing trawler."

In The Shadows of The Night by MissCrazyWriter321 - grimm. this fic is thee one that i turn to whenever i'm feeling sad. i love nick and rosalee's dynamic and this fic lets nick break down while keeping both of them perfectly in character. i'm absolutely obsessed with it. summary: "A board creeks beneath her foot, and he startles, but calms quickly when he sees her. “Sorry,” she murmurs. “I hope I didn’t wake you.” Obviously she didn’t, but she needs to be careful how she handles this. If she pushes too hard, he’ll just end up shutting down."

Eggs Two Ways by leslielol - law and order svu. something about the writing style in this one absolutely captivates me. like, there was a period of time where i straight up read this fic once a week and i'm not kidding. they're both super in character and it's a delightful read! summary: "It’s not often Barba has a reason to exercise a set of skills separate from those as a prosecutor. While sat in a holding cell nursing a broken nose, Carisi learns he’s as sharp as ever. (A missing-scene fic from 16x15 “Undercover Mother.”)"

Breaking all the things I'd wish to keep and Can't erase, can't rewind by Elisexyz - the man from uncle. ok yeah this is technically two. sue me. ely is like, my favorite fic author ever and i love all of her tmfu stuff, but these two hold a special place in my heart and make me go absolutely crazy every time (they go together btw). if you're into tmfu and for some reason haven't read her fics then uhh. get on that right now bc she's amazing. summary: "Napoleon maintains that attempted murder cannot be classified as an "accident"."// "“I didn’t think it was him.”"

the moon points to the sun by haloud - roswell new mexico. this fic has been making me insane for literal years. it's emotional whump and has a somewhat different vibe to the other fics on this list, but i absolutely adore it. this writer understands the characters so well and their style is absolutely incredible. top tier fic right here. summary: "They don't do apologies, Max and Michael. If they started, they'd never stop."

No Rules, No Winners by April_Valentine - person of interest. this is one of those times where you watch something and you're like 'man i wish they'd addressed this pain in the show' and then you find the absolute perfect fic that does address it. it's so tender and lovely and exactly what the episode was missing. summary: "Set just before the tag of "Baby Blue." After leaving Moretti's safe house, Reese goes back to the library."

The Car Accident by Tipper - sneaky pete. another one i've been obsessed with for literal years. it's on the longer side but it's so good, wonderful family dynamics and a really excellent storyline. summary: "After Julia found out who he was, all Marius wanted was one more Sunday night dinner with the family. It was a mistake. The trusting way they looked at him, the uncertain way she looked at him.... He left early, afraid to sink any deeper. The black truck came out of nowhere as he drove away..."

Too Hot (Hot Damn) by WasteTimeandType - the man from uncle. i loveee some heat exhaustion fics and this one is so good! i reread it recently when i was sick and miserable and seeing illya much more sick and miserable than i was really made me feel better lol. summary: "'Out of all the UNCLE missions, this was by far the worst. He’d been shot, stabbed, tortured with water and forced to run miles in a forest in the middle of Canada. All of that was preferable to this. The damn heat.' Illya suffers from heat exhaustion and Gaby and Napoleon take care of him. Kink Meme fill."

A Little Tender Care by ArgylePirateWD - person of interest. this one's a sickfic, i read it before i actually started watching the show and absolutely adored it, and i still adore it now. true to the title, it's super tender and soft and it's a really sweet read. summary: "The Man in the Suit doesn't usually take sick days. Usually."
