ăstrained relationship with parents. when kotoki became an airbender after the harmonic convergence, their parents shipped them off to tenzin in order for them to learn to harness their abilities. kotoki had already been severely neglected beforehand, but after being sent away, contact between them and their parents ceased entirely.
ăobsessed with tenzin. after arriving to train with the other newly awakened airbenders, kotoki and tenzin quickly developed a codependent relationship; kotoki made tenzin feel very important and powerful, and tenzin made kotoki feel cared for and special. the two gradually began to engage in a sexual and almost-romantic relationship. without any other form of support, kotoki began to obsess over tenzin, following him like a duckling and quickly becoming his "apprentice".
ăfriendly with korra + bolin. even though they aren't particularly close, kotoki is much friendlier and more familiar with them than anyone else, aside from tenzin of course.
plz send me asks abt them it took me ages to finish this...

The Myth of Y/N (Korra x Reader) Part 37
Y/N ALONE - PART TWO
Y/NâS POV
The unrolled scroll sprawls across the wooden table like an infinite river of knowledge. The words are halfway into fading into nothingness, emphasising the ancient energy emitting from them.
So much knowledge from one mere text.
Ever since I became an airbending master, I have realised just how many responsibilities there are to be a leader of a nation. I am now responsible for teaching students and future Air Nomads who will go on to teach the next generation and etcetera. It can be overwhelming.
However, there are perks to being a master.
I was pleasantly shocked when Tenzin told me I was allowed to access and read the books and texts from his office. Normally, only heâs allowed to be in his office (for obvious reasons) and to have a look at the stuff he has collected over the years. But, like I just found out that Jinora is allowed to have a look too, he said I have his permission to go through and expand my knowledge on our culture.
And, right now, that is exactly what I am doing and I have learned that, despite being a master, I still have much, much to learn.
This scroll, in particular, is for a special research project I have had in mind for a while now. And, as I read its contents, my intrigue is amplifying as I learn more about the infamous site that tormented me:
The Fog of Lost Souls.
Over two years ago, Jinora and I were trapped in the desolate place by Unalaqâs dark spirits. While Tenzin was able to save us, including Bumi and Kya, the memories of what happened in the fog itself were almost entirely erased. We were able to recover bits and traces since then, the overall experience is an empty spot in our minds.
But I know something happened there. The last few thing I can remember in the fog was Jinora and I being separated after running away from something. After that? Blank.
I asked Tenzin about the Fog of Lost Souls and he told me that apparently, from the contents of the text I am reading right now, that it is actually a spirit who infects the minds of its prisoners, imprisoning them in their own darkest memories and driving them to insanity. Overall, a fate worse than death.
I didnât think much of it at the time but, a few days ago an idea came to mind. A very intriguing but dangerous idea.
A light knock on my bedroom doors brings me out of my thoughts.
âCome in.â
I hear the two doors slide open and I turn to face the visitor.
Itâs Tenzin, dressed robes of red and yellow that makes him look awe inspiring.
âY/N, I hope I am not intruding.â The older airbender asks in a gentle tone.
I smile at seeing my mentor and gracefully rise from my chair. âOf course not, Tenzin. Is there something wrong?â
He walks closer into my room and gives me a smile of his own. âNo, nothing wrong. I just have a task for you, if you donât mind.â
âWhat is it?â
âIâve heard from reports that there are pirates stealing supplies from ships travelling in-between the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom. From what Iâve read, the United Forces have not been able to capture them. I was wondering if you would want to assist them.â
My eyebrows raise slightly in interest. Pirates, huh?
âOf course, Iâll get everything ready and head out as soon as I can.â I tell him. âBesides, it will give me an excuse to stretch my legs and have a change in scenery. Iâll fly by the Fire Nation once Iâm done to see if thereâs anything I can do there to help. Iâm sure Fire Lord Izumi would appreciate it.â
At the sound of my agreement, Tenzinâs smile widens in gratitude. âI suppose she would.â
I then see his eyes move slightly to behind me and I know he is looking at the scroll sprayed out on the table. âI see you have already started your reading.â
I nod. âIâm researching about the Fog of Lost Souls.â
That clearly wasnât what the wise master expected as his jaw drops slightly. âThatâs an odd starting topic. Is there a specific reason why?â
I nod again. âYeahâŚâ
âWhat is it, Y/N?â
I swallow aloud. Tenzin is really not going to like this.
âItâs been nearly three years since I had my vision, Tenzin. Nearly three years and I still remember nothing except âOnly justice will bring peace.â Despite the countless meditations and techniques, weâve tried, I am still nowhere close to remembering the rest of it, let alone what it actually means. I was fine with being patient but thenâŚan idea came to my mind.â
Tenzinâs left eyebrow rises slightly. âWhat kind of idea?â
Well, here it goes.
âI remembered what you said that the Fog of Lost Souls forces you to relive your darkest memories. I canât remember what I saw in there butâŚwhat if the fog showed me the rest of my vision?â
As soon as the question leaves my lips, I know I made a mistake. Tenzinâs eyes widen in horror as he realises what Im proposing.
âNo.â
Dammit.
âTenzin-â
â-Y/N, itâs too dangerous. Do you have any idea how crazy this sounds?â
â-Yes, I know, but-â
â-I barely got you and the others out last time. I donât want any unnecessary risks.â
â-But-â
â-Even if you were able to escape the fog a second time, can you even be certain that the rest of the vision will appear to you, let alone you being able to remember them?â
âNo! No, Iâm not. But, Tenzin, its been nearly three years and Iâve made no progress! The Fog of Lost Souls could be the key to learning the truth!â
âBut at what cost?â He asks gravelly and then places his hands on my shoulder. âY/N, listen to me. I know you are frustrated. I know you are still concerned about your vision. But risking the chance of eternal suffering for answers is not worth it.â
âBut-â
â-No buts.â Tenzin says with a new found sterness, hard as steel. âYou will not go to the Fog of Lost Souls. Promise me.â
Frustration grows within me as I clench my hands into fists. Heâs talking to me like Iâm one of his children. Normally, Iâd love that but this concern is holding me back from learning more!
I donât say all of that, though. I donât want to cause a heated argument. Besides, with everything thatâs happening I need to stay here. I canât risk being trapped for eternity and leave my family.
So, as much as I am angry, I have to follow alongâŚfor now.
I concede.
âFine. I wonât go.â
Tenzin lets out a relieved sigh and letâs go of my shoulders. âGood. I know you are frustrated, and I know Iâve told you this countless times but the best course of action is to be patient. The answers will come in due time.â
I nod melancholy. âI suppose youâre right.â
âBesides, sometimes the answers we seek come from the most unlikely of places. Perhaps, you will find more about your vision when you least expect it.â
As Spectre finally leaves the blanket of clouds, I spot it immediately. From a distant, it looks more like a giant claw, ready to engulf anything in sight. The mountains that are ontop of the sharpened claw make it look armour that rises to touch the sky.
Kyoshi island.
We have arrived.
âAttaboy, Spectre!â I tell him encouragingly. âWeâre finally here.â
I freeze when I spot them.
There, by the lagoon, are airships which I recognise are from Kuviraâs fleet. Terrific.
What could Kuvira possibly want from Kyoshi Island?
Spectre growls at the sight of them and I gently smooth him. âEasy, Spectre. Just get us to its village without them spotting us, okay?â
Luckily enough, we pass over them without them even spotting us. At least, I think we went by undetected. Hopefully.
Soon enough, we eventually make it and, surprisingly, despite some banners and flags there are no troops anywhere. JustâŚnormal people. And the village itself looksâŚfine. Normal, in fact. It looks fairly rural, built from simple wood. And yet, it looks far cleaner and well-off than the previous village I was at. Maybe Kuvira doesnât have much influence here?
As we land, I see that people have noticed us and ever so slowly a small crowd of people being to edge closer and closer to the bison and I, curiosity overpowering them. When I get off Spectre, a lanky middle-aged man with black, and a hint of grey, hair walks past the crowd followed byâŚ
By Kyoshi Warriors!
The descriptions, drawings, and images Iâve seen on the books Iâve read do the female fighters zero justice. As with their tradition, their armoured kimonos and white as snow with a hint of red face paint was designed to make them all look spitting images of Avatar Kyoshi, to intimidate anyone who dared stand in their way. And a dozen of them are behind this man, who now appears to be the villageâs leader.
âYou are an Air Nomad.â The man simply states, his voice gruff and tough which contrasts his rather stick-like figure.
I nod in confirmation. âI am Master Y/N of the Air Nation. It is an absolute honour to meet you. And you are?â
âI am Muyang, the leader of this village.â He replies. âWhy are you here?â
I raise an eyebrow slightly at the tense tone of the manâs voice. What has been going on here? Maybe heâs just on edge from something?
Still, I canât just say it out in the open. The last thing I want to do is cause panic on the small island. I need to discuss this alone.
âI wish to discuss this in private, if you donât mind.â I tell him.
Muyang frowns for a moment but then relents. âVery well. Come.â
I quickly turn back to Spectre. âYou stay here. Just move into the woods and stay there so Kuviraâs men donât spot you. AndâŚtry not to cause any trouble, okay?â
I walk off without giving the bison any time to respond and follow the village leader, with Kyoshi Warriors surrounding us in a rough circle. We do not utter a single word throughout the small journey but eventually we make it to what I presume is Muyangâs house. It is slightly bigger than the other ones, with a triangle shaped roof to mark its uniqueness.
When we finally enter, we all stand still like statues.
âYou have your privacy.â Muyang tells me sternly. âNow, tell us why youâre here.â
Here it goes.
I straighten my back and clasp my hands behind me. âI am conducting a search on Avatar Korra. She has been missing for six months.â
âThe Avatar is missing?â A rough feminine voice emits from the right, and I see one of the warriors walk up to the side of the middle-aged man. Perhaps sheâs the leader of the other fighters? âHow?â
I shrug. âI donât know. The last person who saw her was her father, Chief Tonraq of the Southern Water Tribe, when she left to travel to Republic City. She hasnât been since.â
âThat still does not answer my question.â Muyang reminds me. âWhy are you here?â
âI had a vision.â I tell him cautiously. âI saw Kyoshi Island. IâŚI assumed it was a clue to Korraâs whereabouts.â
As I speak it out, I realise how silly it sounds. A single image of an island and I immediately link it to my search for Korra? Thereâs little to no evidence that the two are even connected.
But it had to mean something, right? What else could it have meant?
âI see.â Muyang says hoarsely after a few moments of silence. âWell, Iâm sorry to say but Avatar Korra is not here. We, nor the other villages, have seen her.â
My heart shatters at his answer. NoâŚ
âAre-Are you sure?â I ask him.
âIâm sorry, but Iâm sure.â
Worry, panic, and frustration boil in my stomach as I clench my hands into fists and swallow an oceanâs amount of saliva.
So, Korra isnât here. But why was I given that vision? There HAS to be a meaning behind it. Maybe it has something to do with Kuviraâs fleet?
âNow with that business is over with, you are free to lea-â
â-What are Kuviraâs army doing here?â
The Kysoshi Warrior, who had a neutral expression throughout the conversation, scowls. âWhat they are probably doing with the rest of the Earth Kingdom: Seizing control.â
âI was under the impression the Kyoshi Warriors supported what Kuvira was doing.â I slowly say, trying not to offend anyone. âIâve heard how Kuvira was awarded the Kyoshi Medal of Freedom, the highest honour of the nation.â
âThat was before we found out who she really was.â She angrily replies. âBy the time we realised we were tricked, it was too late. She ordered some of her men to stay behind to make sure no-one enters or leaves. They robbed us of our communications so we couldnât contact the rest of the world.â
I curse under my breath. Dammit! I knew Kuvira has gone mad. I guess this explains why everyone was so tense earlier when I arrived.
âIâve been warning President Raiko about Kuvira for months and he didnât listen once.â I say. âI have a feeling he will soon realise just how wrong he was to ignore me.â
I then realise something and point to the direction behind me. âWhy are they all at the lagoon then? When I swooped by, I saw an airship and the troops there.â
âFor their own supplies, no doubt.â Muyang grunted.
SoâŚwhat? They just leave them for a bit and theyâŚdo nothing?
I turn back to what seems to be the leader of the Kyoshi Warriors. âAnd you justâŚlet it happen?â
That seemed to tick her off as she snarls and glares daggers right in my eyes. âYou think we want this? What choice we have? If we fight back, more of Kuviraâs men will arrive and punish everyone on the island. I will not allow that to happen.â
IâŚI guess she has a point. But still just doing nothing feelsâŚwrong. These are definitely not the Kyoshi Warriors I have read about in the books.
âWhich is why you have to leave.â Muyang says sternly. âIf they spot you, you could put our whole island on jeopardy.â
No way I came all the way here just to immediately leave. There has to be a reason why I got that vision. MaybeâŚMaybe I was given that vision because of Kuviraâs fleet? Because I am supposed to be here when whatever happens, happens? Spirits, this is so confusing.
âI canât.â I tell him. âNot yet anyway. I was directed to here for a reason. Just give me a day at least and Iâll leave in the morning. Please.â
The leaders of the village and the Kyoshi Warriors exchange looks that, while appear to last for seconds, makes it feels like Iâm waiting for centuries. Their expressions are unreadable, but I can tell they are silently arguing.
Eventually, Muyang turns to me.
âYukari will take you to the Kyoshi Shrine and watch over you. You leave first thing in the morning. Do you understand?â
I nod frantically. âOf course. Thank you so much.â
The Kyoshi Warrior Leader, who I now know is named Yukari, walks up to my side. âLetâs go.â
The journey was long and silent, not a single word uttered between us. Its clear to me that Yukari isnât that much of a speaker.
After who knows how long, we arrive.
And it is definitely not what I had expected.
I have seen and read pictures and descriptions of the Kyoshi Shrine and what it was like during the Hundred Year War. From the books, they described it as a small village temple within a small stone floor.
But now? Now, the shrine looks revamped. Its much wider than its predecessor and in front of it has statues of Avatar Kyoshi in fighting positions. It emanates a mere fraction of the power the Earth Kingdomâs Avatar had.
Yukari must have saw my shock as I can hear her chuckle to my side. âNot what you expected?â
I silently shake my head. âNot at all. The books I read made it soundâŚsmaller.â
âThat was what it was like during the Hundred Year War.â Yukari says as we approach closer to the temple. âIt was badly damaged when some pirates and bandits attacked. My grandmother led the warriors to victory and after the battle thought it would be wise to revamp it to further praise and honour Avatar Kyoshi.â
I hum in acknowledgement. âYour grandmother sounds pretty cool.â
I then freeze to stone as I begin to connect the dots.
GrandmotherâŚ
Led the Kyoshi WarriorsâŚ
No wayâŚ
I stare at the back of Yukariâs head. âWas your grandmother Suki by any chance? Like, the Suki?â
The Kyoshi Warrior stops in her steps and drops her head with a heavy sigh. âYeah.â
My jaw drops to the ground.
NO WAY!
âYouâre Sokka and Sukiâs granddaughter!â I exclaim excitedly. âWow! Itâs an honour to-â
â-Stop it.â Yukari interrupts with a harsh tone. âDonât make a big deal about it.â
OhâŚ
ThatâŚwasnât what I was expecting.
âI-Iâm sorry. I just-â
â-Excited to meet a descendant of the heroes of the Hundred Year War? Youâre not the first one.â
OhâŚ
Wait a second. If sheâs Sokka and Sukiâs granddaughterâŚ
âAang and Tophâs kids never mentioned you.â I pointed out to her as we finally reach the entrance to the shrine. âI just assumed Sokka and Suki never had kids.â
âThey had one. My mother, Kanna.â Yukari says quite quickly. Its clear she doesnât like talking about it and is trying to clarify the confusion as fast as she can so I wonât ask any more questions. âShe was the leader of the Kyoshi Warriors before me. I took up the mantle. The reason youâve never heard of me probably stems from the fact that I cut ties from the rest of my family.â
My eyes widen in shock. Why would she do that?
âWhy?â
She then glares at me full of annoyance. âIf I answer, will you please shut up about it?â
I nod frantically.
âIf you really must know, I cut ties with them because I was sick of it all.â She says with a hint of venom. âThe expectations, the fame, all of it. It was what ruined my parentsâ marriage and drove my mother to an early grave. I didnât want a single reminder of where I came from. So, I said goodbye and burned my bridges. Kyoshi Island is my home, and the people here are my family. Nothing else matters.â
She glares at me again, her brown eyes piercing into mine. âDoes that answer all your questions, Air Nomad?â
The acid in her voice makes me mute. All I can do is nod and in response the tension in Yukariâs body releases slightly. âGood. Now, since youâre going to be here and Iâm supposed to watch over you like a good babysitter, I might as well show you around. Follow me.â
Before I can even respond, she walks inside. I stand there for a few seconds, processing everything I have just learned.
IâŚI had no idea things were that bad. Iâm used to being recognised and I have some sort of popularity, but I never really considered the bad sides of it. Iâve seen Korra get her fair share of critics but most of the time she didnât really let it bother her. And I havenât really got that much at least when compared to her.
But with YukariâŚit seems like she suffered a lot because of it.
âAir Nomad, come on!â
Snapping out of my thoughts, I rush into the Kyoshi Shrine and my eyes wide in awe as I see the interior. So many artifacts used by Avatar Kyoshi including her fans, boots, and headpiece. Not just that, but there are also little sections of writing that detail bits and pieces of her life.
âWowâŚâ
âImpressed?â
âDefinitely. Then again, I guess I shouldnât be surprised. Avatar Kyoshi lived for over 200 years, right?â
âThatâs right. Sheâs the longest living Avatar in history.â
I canât imagine living for centuries. There is so much you can do in that time. Roku was left for dead by Sozin, Aang died at sixty-six. Could Korra perhaps live that long?
Yukari shows me each and every bit and piece of artifacts and texts of history of events the Avatar participated in. I recognised most of them, one of them being the creation of Kyoshi Island and the death of the infamous Chin the Conqueror.
But then, as sheâs explaining the details surrounding some other event, I notice something at the very end. I lean slightly forward and squint and when I read the text my eyebrows raise in surprise.
Thatâs interesting. Iâve never read anything like that before.
When I zone back in, I can hear Yukari still talking.
âAnd that was when Avatar Kyoshi established the Dai Li and-â
â-Whatâs the Kyoshi Civil War?â
My interruption freezes her rambling and before she can ask, I walk up to the stand and see what it says. I am a bit disappointed to see that there isnât that much detail compared to the others.
âThatâŚwas probably the darkest period of Avatar Kyoshi.â Yukari reluctantly says as she comes up to beside me. âIt happened during the twilight years of her era.â
âWhat happened?â
Yukari sighs heavily, the tension in her body returning. âAre you aware of the beliefs Avatar Kyoshi had?â
I do. All too well.
âOnly justice will bring peace.â I recite. âThatâs what she believed. She was willing to bring balance to the world by any means necessary.â
She nods in confirmation. âYes, she was. And when she began the Kyoshi Warriors she taught us to be protectors of our homes and those in need. She taught us the same beliefs she had. And, for the majority of the duration of her era the organisation had little issue. However, near the end, there was aâŚfriction.â
âFriction?â I echo, titling my head in confusion. âWhat kind of friction?â
Yukari sighs once more, clearly finding the topic difficult to talk about. âThere was one warrior who believed we and Avatar Kyoshi werenât doing enough, that we could be doing so much more. She witnessed corruption persisting in the world despite our efforts. And so, she believed we should increase our numbers and expand and increase our influence and control on all nations to eradicate the scum of the Earth. The Avatar disagreed, claiming that her beliefs were dangerous and could lead her down a dark path that will bring more harm than good. At the time, they all thought that was the end of it. Little did Kyoshi and the rest know was that the warrior was conspiring and plotting against them in secret and growing an army of her own followers.â
My mouth part slightly, stunned at how this one warrior was able to this right under the nose of an Avatar. She must have been really skilled at deception.
âWhat was this warriorâs name?â
Yukari takes a deep, long breath and clench her hands into fists. After a long, tense exhale she utters two words.
âLady Yuchin.â
I frown in concentration as I try to remember if I ever heard of that name before butâŚnothing. Blank.
âIâve never heard of her.â
âI would be surprised if you did.â She chuckles without humour. âThe Earth Kingdom used to have more history of her but most of the knowledge was lost during the Hundred Year War. What you see is all we have.â
SpiritsâŚso much information was lost because of the Fire Nation. So much.
âWhat happened after that?â
âEventually, she and her followers were discovered.â Yukari continues. âIt is unknown what happened specifically, but they somehow escaped and hid. Then, after a short period, Lady Yuchin returned to public light and disowned her loyalty to the Avatar and the Kyoshi Warriors and begun her own organisation, declaring that they will not rest until they take control of the world and eradicate the corruption from within and anyone, even her former allies, who dared to stop them will suffer.â
SpiritsâŚ
âAnd what was this organisationâs name?â
âWe donât know.â Yukari simply says, shrugging nonchalantly. âThat bit of information has been lost. However, after she was killed in battle her followers renamed their group after her to honour her memory: The Yuchin Order and its followers, the Yuchin Knights.â
She was killed?!
âHow did she die?â
âThe Kyoshi Civil War lasted for five years. Lady Yuchin died in the Battle of Shamu during the third year of the war, killed by the Avatar herself. The Yuchin Orderâs numbers were growing very fast and so did the Kyoshi Warriorâs to combat them. Many lives were lost. But after Yuchinâs death was when the tide turned to our favour. Without her leadership and guidance, many of the Knights desired to take the role of the orderâs master to fill in the power vacuum. Sources say that many of them betrayed and backstabbed one another to achieve authority. In the end, the Yuchin Knightsâ worst enemy were themselves. Eventually, Lady Yuchinâs apprentice, Konrok, eventually obtained leadership and did achieve some success but, by then, it was too late. In desperation, Konrok launched one final attack on Kyoshi Island and, from what I read, it was an absolute bloodbath. Total carnage. Casualties were extremely high and most of the island was badly harmed. However, in the end, it was clear who had won. When the fighting stopped, all of the Yuchin were destroyed. None of them survived. And, after five brutal years, the Kyoshi Civil War was finally over.â
As she finally finishes the story, my jaw drops slightly.
SpiritsâŚan entire civil war full of death and suffering and I had no idea it existed. I knew Avatar Kyoshi wasnât perfect and experienced her own challenges and failures, but a full civil war?
Wait a minuteâŚ
âWhy is it called the Kyoshi Civil War, though? Shouldnât it have been the Yuchin-Kyoshi War or something?â
âYou would think that, wouldnât you? But no. Despite the philosophical differences, the majority saw the Yuchin as rogue Kyoshi Warriors. The Avatar was heavily criticised for the conflict after it ended but thankfully it didnât tarnish her reputation. The Civil War prompted her to reduce the quantity of the warriors to prevent such a betrayal from happening again. And, thankfully, the group has experienced nothing but peace amongst its members.â
We stay silent for a moment as we feel the weight of the story. Just from hearing it I feel nearly crushed by the Civil Warâs intensity. I couldnât imagine what it was like to actually live in the Earth Kingdom during that period.
A new thought enters my mind, and the intensity amplifies.
IsâŚIs it possible that this was what my vision was about? About the Yuchin Order? If that is the case, why? To teach me some valuable lesson? Or, more terribly, to warn me about its return?
No. No, that was impossible. Yukari said herself that all of the Yuchin Knights were killed in the final battle of the war. There was no way they could come back.
I look up at the board and see a rough drawing of Kyoshi Warriors and Yuchin Knights engaged in a deadly battle. While the former were all women and were dressed to look spitting images of the Avatar they worship, their enemies were a mixture of male and female and dressed in golden yellow with night-sky boots. Some wore bulky armour, others wore mere robes, and others wore a combination of the two. They all wielded sharp silver swords tainted with blood, some wielding one and others wielding two.
âThere are women AND men in the Yuchin.â I point out, filling the silence. âWhy is that?â
Yukari hums in acknowledgement and deep thought. âI am not entirely sure because of the lack of information. But from what I gathered it seemed as if Lady Yuchin believed that the eradication of corruption was a task for all, not just for one specific category.â
Hm. Interesting. I look at the drawing again and I spot her. At the very back of the army is one female warrior elevated standing on some sort of platform to make her above the rest, marking her importance. Unlike the others, she wields a double-bladed sword and is using it to direct the charge against the Kyoshi Warriors, all the while her red cape is blowing along the wind.
This must be Lady Yuchin. To think, she was once a Kyoshi Warrior herself until her desire to eradicate corruption consumed and transformed her into becoming the very thing she despised. I have seen this with my own enemies over the years. Amon and Tarrlok despised their father and yet became just as bad as him, and now it seems like the same is happening with Kuvira.
âYukari!â
The shout or, more accurately, scream of the Kyoshi Warrior Leaderâs name startles both of us as we turn to the entrance. There, just outside the door, another of the female fighters is there but is shaking badly withâŚfear.
âWhat is it?â Yukari asks as she rushes over to her comrade and takes her in her arms. âWhatâs wrong?â
âItâs Kuviraâs troops. More of them have arrived and are planning on taking complete control of the island!â
WHAT?!
Dammit! Since Iâve been gone for a while, the coronation of Wu has no doubt already happened. And since Kuviraâs troops arenât standing down it means that their leader hasnât given up her power.
Of course, she hasnât. The power has gotten to her head and now sheâs taking control of the entire Earth Kingdom. I shouldnât have been surprised.
I was right. I was right. I. Was. Right.
The Kyoshi Warrior continues, and her words shake as much as her body. âHer men are calling Kyoshi Island and its people the property of the Earth Empire. Any resistance will have severe consequences.â
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And that's it!
I hope you enjoyed it! What did you think of Yukari so far and the lore behind of Lady Yuchin and the Kyoshi Civil War?
Feedback is appreciated!
See you all in the next chapter! :D

Avatar this time. I went with Korra bc I figured making myself an outfit that fit with that one would be easier, but it wasn't really. Still not sure I like the outfit I gave myself, but I'm fairly pleased with how the pro bending uniform came out.

I'm convinced we can get this to be canon! We only need a few qualified fans, a private jet, a riffle and the creators' momma address! Let's go team! âđź
My favourite fan theory is that, in legend of korra, "Air Temple Island" in republic city wasnt always an island. It only became one after tenzin broke up with Lin Beifong

honestly.... kuvira has irl parallels w putin.
I mean yeah I've compared her to Stalin and WOW IT'S ALMOST LIKE RUSSIA HAS BEEN DOING THE SAME DAMN THING FOR DECADES. Like seriously it's starting to feel like fucking groundhog day man.
And look, I don't want to be the asshole who shames people for liking Kuvira. I like a lot of aspects of Kuvira's character.
She's hot, she's charismaric (mainly due to Zelda Williams but yk) and she's a relatively compelling character. People are allowed to enjoy a villain character without endorsing the shitty stuff those villains do.
But there is a distinction between Kuvira the character and what Kuvira represents/the thinly veiled real life ideologies behind her.
Kuvira as a character is interesting, you know? Fun to talk about. Someone who was abandoned at a young age and proceeded to self sabotage her relationships and became a control freak who fears vulnerability due to that. Pretty standard villain shit. But fun, and there's a little more to her.
Kuvira as a representant of real world ideologies carries much more weight. People catch onto her Nazi imagery, but the Soviet stuff isn't as obvious. A lot of western europeans and Americans, the main demographic of Avatar won't immediately clock those influences behind Kuvira.
To those countries, Soviet occupation of Eastern Bloc countries was just the cold war, the red scare, a looming threat that could cause harm, but was at least not capable of influencing their lives too intimately.
While the countries that were under the power of the Soviet Union still have that memory fresh in their minds. Hell, my mom grew up in the PRL, my uncle was a part of SolidarnoĹÄ. People remember that shit it wasn't that long ago. Reading literature from not that long ago like A Minor Apocalypse or Madame feels surreal. When I read memoirs or just heard stories from my older relatives, I could taste the atmosphere of bleakness, distrust and confusion.
So maybe I'm just more primed to notice how Kuvira's actions play into patterns of Russian aggression. Maybe when Western European and American viewers are more willing to give Kuvira the benefit of the doubt, or see merit in her actions, I'm more willing to look at her through the lenses of the ideologies she represents.
Throughout most of the show, we don't actually see that much of Kuvira as a character. She's more a silent, looming villain in the background and due to her more calculated demeanour, we don't get a lot of insight into her personality until the last two episodes. So maybe it's easier to look at her more as a representant of dangerous ideologies than as a character.
Mind you, I don't think Bryke really thought through the implications of giving Kuvira the aesthetic and ideology they did. Nazis and to a lesser extent, Soviets, have become very much shorthand for "bad guy" in fiction. If they had thought this through, I wanna at least hope that they would have handled Kuvira more carefully.
Because by giving Kuvira a sense of moral ambiguity and the clumsy handling of her character, you have dumbasses ob reddit defending her. I'm genuinely shocked at the amount of Kuvira apologism in the tlok fandom.
But that goes back to the Western Bloc viewers and creators not really being familiar with the history Kuvira embodies. Not fully imagining the perspective of for example the people under her rule. Which is a perspective I am desperate to see, filling out the blanks with the history Kuvira draws from.
Most of B4 is seen through that 'outside perspective' of Korra and Republic City. Not unlike how a huge part of the narrative around the cold war and Ussr is the Cold War and how it affected Western Bloc countries.
Once again, the only characters who are actually part of the Earth Kingdom and have some experience with Kuvira's occupation are the Beifongs. But they are dismissed as biased, irrational, agressive or pushed aside when our heroic USA inserts get the spotilight. The fandom despises Suyin, derides Zaofu for not being the perfect victims. A story we see more and more of nowadays.
Suyin is depicted as "white woman liberalism" depsite being a leader of a community based, anti monarchist city which seems to allow it's citizens to flourish as artists and scientists and also refusing to seize power over a vulnerable country to hand it over to a monarchy she didn't support and then wanting to kill a fascist? But "ooooh Zaofu is culty and Suyin is a bit of a hypocrite" so I guess she's worse then the fucking Hitler Stalin lovechild that threatened to lay seige to her peaceful city.
The Kuvira apologism in the fandom does sometimes give me similar vibes to Putin dickriding from Conservative americans tbh. At least that explains it.
The reason I'm so unsettled by so many people being blind to the ideologies and history Kuvira represents is because that ideology is not dead. It seems like a lot of westerners don't really seem to care about it anymore, but Russia is still commiting a genocide in Ukraine. Hell, it seems like people from countries that aren't close to the conflict kinda forgot that was still a thing. People are fucking dying, homes are being destroyed. And you think Russia will stop at decimating Ukraine? They're already hiring arsonists to cause chaos in Poland, they're not gonna stop.
These ideologies still cause pain and death today. They're not for cheap villains who can be watered down and excused by a sad backstory. And they're certainly not to he excused and supported by edgy fans who somehow didn't realise that the previous show was violently anti fascist.
Love Kuvira as a character, enjoy her, her storylines, her personality. But for the love of God, acknowledge what she represents, who she represents and that it's bad.
Whew that kinda... got a little heavy. I apologise for the rant, I'm just very frustrated. By how Kuvira is woobified and exhonorated hy both fanon and canon, and by current events in the Ukraine and Poland and the rest of the ex-second world countries and the seeming apathy of the rest of the wider world.
Quick note: The terminology in this post may not be fully up to date, since a lot of terms have went out of usage and lost their meaning.

I feel like the upcoming kataang!movie they are gonna do a hell of a job compensating for everything that peeved people about tlok like have them mention how they are like so super happily married for every five seconds and that they have no marital problems, like, ever and that they are each otherâs one and only 5ever and that Katara is happily a housewife if it means Aang can do his avatarly duty and that Zuko officiated their marriage to get back at those Zutara shippers or whatever
considering literally everything that has come out about kataang in the last half a decade has been nothing more than damage control for the show and early comics... yeah, i see it.
they literally shoved in a "look! aang does domestic work after all HAH!" even in the fucking cookbook that maybe like 2% of the fandom bought so the movie is definitely going to be chock full of entirely unsubtle moments put in solely as a fuck-you to anyone who dared criticize bryke's perfect self-insert ship. poor zuko's probably going to become the bryke soapbox on kat.aang just so they can rub it in our faces because "look! even zuko loves kat.aang what do you MEAN he would never say that shut up about his sizzling chemistry with katara - "
either ways, it makes no difference to me. they could have every single character turn directly to the camera and say aang and katara have the most perfect romance of all time, and that would still do absolutely nothing to fix how their relationship started in atla, and how it inevitably ended in lok. nothing they do in the gaang movie will retcon how utterly irrelevant katara became in the legend of korra, or the complete lack of respect aang (and the narrative) had for her agency and boundaries in atla.
short of inventing time travel and rewriting the show, the problems with kat.aang cannot be handwaved away no matter how much bryke tries to word-of-god it. it's a pity most of the general atla fandom is definitely going to eat it up, but i'll just be over here shipping my beloved zutara in peace and ignoring the fuck out of "canon" like i always have :)
#zutara#anti kataang#anti bryke#though honestly given the writing talent those two have i'll be impressed if they don't somehow cock kat.aang up in an entirely new way#i still have major doubts about this movie actually becoming a finished product so let's hope for a cancellation#leave the atla franchise in peace and move the fuck on challenge

it's pretty horrible thinking about how airbenders/air nomads are treated in canon (and as a result by the fandom). they were just existing peacefully for 1,000s of years, and sozin felt the need to wipe out their whole civilization because he saw them as weak (i know he mainly did it because he wanted to kill aang, but he also didn't want the air nomads to exist anymore). then throughout atla aang has to no only hear disrespect towards his people from randoms, zuko, who's supposed to be his friend, mocks his culture right to his face.
then in tlok the earth queen captures the new airbenders in ba sing se to use for her army. i know those people aren't air nomads, but there's something so sinister about airbenders, who have historically been know to promote non-violence/pacifism, being forced to fight.
then of course a certain section of the fandom hates aang for staying true to his culture and not killing ozai. it would honestly be laughable if it wasn't so sinister.
itâs sad really.
and then you have yangchen used as a scapegoat to undermine aangâs pacifism when her books actually show how beautiful air nomad culture was (and tibetan buddhism is) and how much she loved her culture, despite being a walking contradiction herself.
i mean like it or not, the canon and the fandom are largely reflected by the writers themselves. most of the 20-something of them being yt western men. and the writing shows it (along with the underdeveloped female characters, entire water tribe, etc.) aang and the air nomads never had a chance đ
itâs actually so funny to me how the creators have gone on record saying their favorite characters are korra and zuko (and it shows) yet there are people that think a buddhist genocide survivor is the self-insert of a yt 40 year old american man. lol.

I keep thinking about that post that says Sokka shouldâve taken Varrickâs place in TLOK and directed a movie based on Gaangâs experience with high romantic tension between Bolinâs character who is actually Sokkaâs self-insert and Zukoâs character. And then I thought TAHNO would be the PERFECT Zuko-character actor. Sokka took one look at his emo ass haircut and went âyou, i need you, a pro waterbender, to play a firebender with your pro-bending nemesis Bolin, I will pay you handsomely,â and thatâs fucking ex-Chief Sokka of course you take the role.
Anyways Bolin and Tahno being extremely confused about how they ended up between Sokka and ex Fire Lord Zukoâs messy divorce which isnât really a divorce because they found them kissing each other behind one of the sets(the image could not be burned otu of their eyes, they tried).
Zuko randomly showing up to be like âNo you should play this moment with trepidation, confusion regarding the blossoming feelings but also a dedication towards Sokk- I mean Nuktuk.â
Tahno, terrified out of his mind: Thereâs a silver sandwich, take a bite out of it

who r ur atla ocs?? can u infodump abt them
Oh mygod
anon youâre a hero (for asking this) and a fool (you have no idea what youâre unleashing)
Alright so I have 4 girls in total
Sung Shu, Nataroq Issanuk, Shao Taijing, and Sanjay Gurun
It was by complete coincidence that I ended up with 1 of each bender. Sung and Shao are for ATLA, Nataroq and Sanjay are for TLOK. Sung, Nataroq, and Sanjay all get to live their lives with crushing guilt of their past actions meanwhile Shao was always looking out for number 1 (earth kingdom) and sheâs doing pretty good lmao
I am proudly deranged in that my primary way of enjoying a story is often by making up semi self insert OCs. Sung was the first and I made her up during my first watch of ATLA in 2023
Thereâs literally way too much to explain of all 4 in one post, but Sungâs on the mind rn so letâs put her under the microscope. She joins the gaangâŚat some point at the end of s1. It gets kind of hard to pinpoint because her introduction would be a whole entire episode, but she comes in after Jeong Jeong and before they reach the NWT. She grew up in a noble capital family, was one of JJâs students, was in an arranged relationship with Zhao (fuckinâ toxic leech), and was a commander in the Fire Navy alongside him (which Iâve taken the liberty of claiming to be an equivalent to a rear admiral in the usnavy), all up until she defected 6 years pre-iceberg.
Jeong Jeongâs desertion speech was the first crack in the imperialism armor. A lot of small things after that (among them possibly reading more about her great-grandfather) kept adding up until Sung was there in the room when Kya was killed. Watching Captain Rha kill the defenseless surrendered woman (whom she was expecting to take prisoner) and a conversation she had with Zhao after the fact was the final straw that broke the ostrichhorseâs back.
Commander Shu was declared KIA by Zhao when sheâs found to be missing while docked in the colonies. Eventually, after a lot of character developing experiences such as a few months with the Old Masters, Sung ends up in a village in the northern earth kingdom named Daolin. At first she was masquerading as a wandering nonbender warrior, and met Kola Dao on the road. She helped Kolaâs family, the villageâs leaders, defend themselves against warmongering bandits that had been terrorizing them ever since all of their earthbenders went to fight the war. Itâs halfway through that ordeal that sheâs forced to reveal her real identity to the Daos. They, naturally, Really Donât Like Her Now, but when all is said and done Sung has proven herself enough that they let her stay around for a couple days, while they recover.
A couple days become 4 years, and âthat firebenderâ becomes âour beloved friend & protector, and also that girl whoâs head over heels for Kola (mutually)â
Annnnnnnnd then the Avatar and his friends show up asking after this little local folk legend of âThe Defender of Daolinâ
Thatâs Sungâs whole backstory more or less. I wonât ramble so much as to outline that whole story of the meeting but she volunteers to be Aangâs fire teacher when heâs ready. Except the invasion buildup kinda messes with that so Zuko still does a lot of teaching too. The Siege of the North is the first proper battle Sung ever fights against the Fire Nation, and yes she does have a cathartic fight against Zhao while heâs beelining for the Oasis. If memory serves correctly I think the first time she properly meets Zuko is the ghost town fight (lowkey one of my favorite scenes in the show).
OH also Kolaâs a member of the White Lotus. Sung isnât in the know about that but when she leaves Daolin Kola gives her their symbol as âa good luck charmâ which Iroh later notices on her at the Oasis and internally goes âoh we cool???â
Iâm listening to Epic as I write this and Penelopeâs âThough I never thought that these would be the lengths we go for love!â is so Kola
So Sungâs along for the ride for all of s2 (well, except for Bitter Work, sheâs kinda on a personal side quest spying on Iroh explaining lightningbending. By the way at this point lightningbending is considered a technique only possible to be performed by benders of royal blood. Canât stop Sung from her own bitter work in trying to do it anyway though.) And most of s3. In the time jump she makes amends with Hakoda and they commanded the invasion together, and went to the Boiling Rock together. Eventually in the finale, Sung has a reunion with JJ after nine years and gets to be shocked by Kola at the camp. She fights alongside Sokka, Toph, and Suki in the airship battle (and up there, with the cometâs power, was when she achieved the thing sheâd spent months practicing, and became the first example that anyone could learn to lightningbend.)
PostcanonâŚwell the first thing she does is marry Kola of course. Sung Shu goes down in history as not just a hero for turning sides in the war and a member of team avatar, but also as a co-founder of the United Republic and as the first Grand Marshal of the United Forces.
Sungâs friendship/dynamic with Hakoda makes me so ill btw in another world, she and Kya wouldâve been good friends. Also Sung is Momoâs secret favorite.
Since I mentioned Kuzon, lemme show yâall the Shu Family Tree I constructed at 2am last night.
Tozan was basically a metalworker slash samurai in Rokuâs Team Avatar, and his family was elevated to nobility by Sozin. His son Roulan built them into a renowned lineage of swordmakers, and Tozanâs grandson was Kuzon. Kuzon spent his life having to be subtle and secretive over how much he despised the war and what Sozin had done to the world and the Air Nomads. It was his son Karwan who turned the Shu family into profiteers as armory artisans, and it was completely against Kuzonâs wishes that Karwan joined the army and his daughter Riosha joined the navy. (Captain Shu died in the first war against the northern water tribe.) Additionally, Karwan married an admiral of the navy. Their first son Fezan died as a lieutenant in the Southern Raiders, and so Suli, Sungâs father, inherited the dynasty. Her twin siblings Sunan (the heir) & Juyin were nonbenders like their parents; Grandmother Nori was the last bender until Sung came along. (sidenote Sung & her siblings are mixed hawaiian, thai, and chinese)
I thought itâd be fun if I changed Michi to be Sungâs sister Juyin; specifically Ukanoâs second wife after Maiâs mom. Which means Tom-Tom is Sungâs nephew (& the heir to the Shu clan) and Maiâs her niece in law :D
âŚand I also had the vision last night of Sung, after the war ends, taking Aang and Bumi to the Shu family mausoleum after sheâd connected the dots that her great-grandfather whoâd professed his grief over the air nation in his last will & testament, and Aangâs old friend Kuzon, were the same man. Cue sobbing.
AND NOW, I have this big ramble that I wrote a while back explaining Sungâs relationships with the gaang and it is very long and thus under the cut. Oh also, I lied, Sungâs name isnât Sung it is Jerkbender and it will be for the rest of eternity (according to Toph & Sokka)
Sung and the Gaangâs relationship is complex. On the Gaangâs side, Sung is their friend, but also a mentor, a protective figure, and for some their first positive elder figure. Sung was the first firebender they ever met who was fully on their side, meaning she had to prove herself to them I say them when I mean Sokka but she also set a precedent in their minds that the Fire Nation as whole wasnât evil like it felt.
On Sungâs side, Aang and his mission are the first things Sung really finds herself believing in after she became disillusioned with the FN. the Gaang gave her something to believe in, people to care about who needed her just as much as she needed them, and something greater to fight for. These kids are the north star of her life even while she acted as a rock for the kids, and others, when things got the worst. Naturally, honor is one of the most important things to her, which was why when the eclipse invasion failed she refused to use her âspecial statusâ as the kidsâ own team member/sifu in order to escape when the rest of the adult army stayed trapped. She trusted them above all else, above the odds, and that trust was rewarded when Sokka and Zuko went on the first of the life-changing field trips(tm)
To look at Zuko for a moment, Sung also played an indirect part in his journey. By virtue of what time she joined the gaang, Sung probably had the least reason to hate him. While the other three saw the guy who chased them across the world, Sung saw the s2 crown prince who clearly didnât know what path he was even leading. Her dramatic entrance into the ghost-town fight was her saving him from one of Azulaâs fireballs, and she said to him, he needed to figure out whose side he was on. For a while he thought she was merely some traitorous ally of the Avatar, but by the time Sung was back with the Gaang in the Western Temple, Zuko and Sung started training Aang together and she told him, sheâd have no qualms calling him her prince. (Oh! And they can have a moment when they realize Lieutenant Jee, Zukoâs subordinate, and Captain Jee, Sungâs friend and right hand man as a commander, were the same guy.)
Speaking of s3, Katara shared her Zuko Fieldtrip with Sung as the trio hunted down Yon Rha. Sung could fill in the blank spaces among Kataraâs memory and Zukoâs knowledge of the raiders as a whole, and fun fact, that day they first met in Daolin was the very same day Sung realized Kya had been lying when she said she was the waterbender. Yeah I am not lying when I say Sung & the wolfcove family makes me claw at the walls
To Toph, Sung was basically the first adult figure in her life to care about her yet not smother her; Sung was cautious to a reasonable amount given their current lives, but she respected Toph even in ways their other compatriots didnât; just due to their unique dynamic. SungâŚI canât really put a label on what she was to Toph; she definitely wasnât like a parent, but âmentorâ doesnât feel right either. She wasnât a teacher. âAunt-figureâ maybe? Not in the familial sense, but in the way Toph trusted Sung in ways she never could with her parents, and looked to her for things that maybe sheâd look to her parents for if theyâd all been different people. Sung was simply the first person to know Toph for who she was and respect her as an equal in capability, so Toph and Sung grew a relationship that wasnât familial, but had some kindaâŚwise-safe-adult+independant-yet-advice-seeking-youth aspect to it.
Sokka was very distrustful of Sung at the beginning, mainly due to him being the most stubborn guy in the South Pole and finding it hard to believe that âfirebender =/= evilâ. But ironically, Sung kind of becameâŚsort of a surrogate to the empty space left by Hakoda. Again, Sung was not like a parent to anyone, but she was this seasoned warrior whoâd taken it upon herself to protect them, something Sokka thought had to be his job. While I wouldnât describe her as mentorly to Toph, Iâd say she was something like that to Sokka. Thinking about it, Sung was probably also the final megaboss in the dregs of his sexismâs doomed journey lmao, as the whole reason they made a stop in Daolin was because Sokka wanted to learn from this nonbender warrior who could never be burned or beaten by the firebenders. Sung was a confidant to Sokka as they went on, he could talk to her in a way he couldnât talk to Katara or Aang. Sokka would beâand was, when the inevitable Hakoda & Bato meeting / Kya conversation came up between s2/3âthe first to jump up and defend Sung as a trusted warrior of the right side of history, and Sung was the first one to see through Sokkaâs mask and teach him how to really be a warrior and a leader, but at the same time encourage him to do what his heart said it wanted; not what his head thought anyone else expected.
I suppose Katara was the one Sung was the most parental with if I had to say so. Because Katara had to be the âwoman of the houseâ since she was 8, and for all of her adult life had no mother-figure in the traditional sense, Sung was the first older woman to become friends with herâthat wasnât her elderly grandmotherâand be there to take some of that load off her shoulders. Sung was finally there to listen. Conversely, Sung felt a little bit of a debt whenever she was there for Katara. She felt like this was the way she paid her repentance to Kya for standing there in between the latter and her family and not stopping Yon Rha. If Kya couldnât be there for Katara and Sokka, partially thanks to her, thenâŚshe could try to do it on her behalf. Not to mention these two are a duo on the battlefield and you should probably run.
AndâŚAang. This is moreso postcanon, but Sung was, above the whole rest of the world, the one advisor as the Avatar that he could always count on to be able to fall back on, to be strong for him, to be the stoic ally always behind him. Grand Marshal Shu was even willing, if they had no other choice, to be the threat standing behind his preaching of peace in the worst case scenario. When she joined their travels, Sung had reiterated what Jeong Jeongâd said, about fire needing to be the last element and she wouldnât teach him until he was ready. Watching her own bending for the months in between helped quell Aangâs fear of hurting someone with it, particularly when she explained to him that thatâs something all firebenders go through when theyâre learning, herself included. Throughout their whole journey Sung was always there as a safe harbor, and Aang was always there as that ray of hope that kept Sung afloat. Random fact: Sung also fights with a bostaff, so she and Aang are staff buddies. Also meditating buddies. Really just buddies in general. Also, tangential, but Sung was 100% the prime aunt-figure of all the Gaangâs kids, kinda even taking on that same nurturing role she maintained with Toph when the young ones were having issues with their own parents. (Especially Tom-Tom, Izumi, & Bumi II)
I guess thatâs the right way to put it. A safe harbor for all the people in her life.
Sorry for not including Suki, I do think she should be considered a Gaang member but I just donât have much interaction between her and Sung versus the rest of the mcs
Iâll finish this with one of my favorite lines from The Tale of Sung, aka her day off in Ba Sing Se:
I have a thing I like to call âThe Monster Docâ because I fixated so hard on Sung in April 2023 that I ended up with a doc of snapshots of Sung at various points in canon, adding up to 30k words, and still firmly a WIP. ButâŚit might be getting posted soon
welllll THAT SURE WAS A READâŚ.and so Iâm gonna end this post here, but feel freee to ask anything about any of my OCs please <3

The Myth of Y/N (Korra x Reader) Part 36
Y/N ALONE - PART ONE
Y/NâS POV
Wind rushes past my face as Spectre flies high into the air and dark sky at a speed that surpasses the speed of his previous flights.
FUCK FUCK FUCK
Korra has been gone for six months?! What happened to her?! Is she okay?! Is she safe?! Where is she?!
A low grumble emits from the bisonâs mouth, its own way of questioning its human partner in their bond.
Where are we going? Thatâs what Spectre is trying to ask. A simple question. A simple fucking question.
And my answer?
âI donât know, Spectre.â I mutter. Then, I shout into the night. âI DONâT KNOW!â
How am I supposed to find Korra when I have no damn clue where she is?
I rushed off without any plan, without any resources, and without telling my friends where I am going at all. They all must be worried sick.
I donât have any food and drink with me. None at all. Thatâs a great way to quickly starve and dehydrate.
Should I turn back?
I look behind me and I see Air Temple Island, shrinking second by second as we get further and further away.
The temptation nearly takes me over. Logically, this is ridiculous. This is completely irrational. All the odds are against me. Really, I should turn back and plan with the others.
ButâŚKorra has been gone for six months. Sheâs all alone. What if sheâs been captured this entire time? What if sheâs in danger?
The image of Tonraq holding a nearly dead Korra in his arms flashes in my mindâs eye and its all I can see. And, just like that, my decision has been made. Frowning in a determined gaze, I turn back to the open sea in front of me and I tighten my hold on the rope used to guide my bison.
âKeep a steady course, Spectre. Korraâs out there, somewhere. She might be in danger, and we must find her. I will find her. I donât know how, but I will.â
âI will find you, Korra!â
I open my eyes and spin around in. No-one is here.
Iâve just finished counting to thirty seconds. Thereâs no way Korra managed to find a good hiding spot already, right?
Hmph. Well, if she did, it wonât matter. Iâm the best seeker in the Southern Water Tribe! Iâll find her quicker than Prince Zuko found Avatar Aang during the war! Iâll show her!
I rush out of the room and look down left and right corners of the house. It doesnât have much, just boring brown walls with little additions of paintings of some boring stuff I have no idea what are about.
Hm. Which way did she go? Left or right?
A short giggle echoes down the corridor from the right!
Ah ha! Korra is so bad at this!
âIâve got you now, Korra!â I shout out and begin rushing down the corridor. âYou may be the Avatar but you can be so easily caught!â
When I reach to the end of the corridor, I see two doors. One leads to the outside and the other to a very dark room.
Uh oh.
Knowing Korra, she would probably enter that one. She knows I get a bit scared in the dark so she thinks I wonât go in there! Well, Iâll show her!
I take a super, super deep breath and I charge!
âIâve got you, Korra!â
I barge through the room andâŚ
Nothing.
Huh?!
The roomâs dark but I can see just enough andâŚthereâs nothing. Just a bunch of boxes! Maybe sheâs in the boxes?
I walk up to one of them and open the lid.
âBOO!â
âAH!â
I jump back and fall to the ground on my butt in shock!
Then, Korra starts laughing! LAUGHING!
âHahaha, I got you!â She lets out, voice high. âYou were like âI got you now!â and I was like âBoo!â and you were like âAhh!â
UGH!
âKooorrraaaaâ I whine, getting up and brushing the dust from my clothes. I put my hands on my hips and I pout. âThatâs not how you play hide and seek! You hide, I come and find you!â
âBut its so borrriiinnnngggg sitting here and waiting for you to find me!â Korra whines back. âYouâre so bad at being seeker, you would take hours to find me!â
WHAT?!
âIâm an amazing seeker!â I argue, crossing my arms.
âAre not!â
âAre too!â
âAre not!â
âAre too!â
âAre not!â
âAre too-ughhh, you tricked me!â
That only makes Korra start laughing even harder, her head back in the air and arms holding her belly.
Ugh!
But then, I look at the box and a smile creeps onto my lips. I quickly rush around the box and push so Korra spills out of it like water!
âHey!â Korra lets out.
I cross my arms and smirk. âThatâs what you get for calling me a bad seeker!â
âWell, Iâm the Avatar so, whatever!â
âOh, hereâs the âIâm the Avatarâ card.â
âThatâs it!â
She lunges at me and I fall to the ground on my back with her on top of me. We have a habit of play fighting and this is so different as we twist and turn, giggling as we do so.
âAdmit youâre a bad seeker!â
âNever!â
Then, the door suddenly opens wide and orange light pours into the room. Three people stand by the doorâs entrance. On the left I see Dad and the other two are White Lotus members. Uh oh.
âY/N, your father is here to collect you.â The White Lotus Guard says. âKorra, you got to get back to preparing for your final waterbending test.â
Oh man. Playtimes over?
âOkay.â We both say sadly and we get up on the floor.
âGood luck on your waterbending test.â I tell her.
Korra just smirks and crosses her arms. âI donât need luck. Iâm a waterbending master.â
I chuckle a bit and smile. I like seeing Korra so confident of herself. It makes me feel nice.
âOf course, Sifu Korra.â I tell her jokingly. Then, I pull her into a hug. She hugs me back even tigther and even lifts me up in the air.
After a few moments of silence, she puts me back down and we reluctantly let go of each other.
âBye, Korra.â
Korra smiles softly. âBye, Y/N.â
I walk up to Dad and we start leaving the compound.
âDid you have a fun time with Korra?â He asks me with a warm smile.
I nod really quickly. âYep! We played a bunch of games! We played hide and seek before you guys came but Korra just wanted to scare me. She said I was a bad seeker too!â
Dad just chuckles and ruffles my hair. âWell, I think you are an amazing seeker. You always managed to find mum and I when we play together.â
See? Dad thinks Iâm a great seeker!
âI tried to tell her that!â I huff out, then pout again. âShe wonât believe me.â
Dad just ruffles my hair again. âWell, I suppose you would have to find and catch her next time.â
I smile. âYouâre on it! I will! Iâll show her!â
Next time, Korra. Next time I will find you!
Hours. I have been awake for hours to the point that dawn has just broken loose and Iâve had no clue or trace or any idea how to find Korra.
And Iâm fucking exhausted. So is Spectre. Each hour his flight speed decreases little by little. Now, heâs flying at the air bison equivalent of a snailâs pace.
Dammit.
Pinching the bridge of my nose, I let out a frustrated groan. âLand, Spectre. We need the rest.â
Rumbling in satisfaction, he lands us to a small clearing on a mountain surrounded by an army of trees. Then, I fall on my back and let my furry friendâs soft hair bring me to a welcoming darkness and I let myself fall into its arms like an old friend.
Images flash through my mind. Images of an Earth Kingdom town filled with standard homes and standard citizens. Poverty and dirt fill the dark alleys like a disease waiting to be unleashed from the shadows.
Another flash and the scene has changed. This time, itâs a much bigger building, similar to that of a warehouse. People surround the entrance with intrigue and excitement.
Again, the scene changes. Now, its an arena, decorated with green, gold and silver with a symbol of a powerful fist crushing rock in the centre, with a claustrophobic cage trapping it. The image lingers and, this time, I hear voices surrounding me.
âYou know, you look very familiar. Yeah, you ... you kind of look like that Avatar girl!â
âI get that a lot.â
âWhatever happened to her anyway?â
âI wouldnât know.â
That voiceâŚ
âKORRA!â
I leap forward as my shout echoes across the mountains, so loud that it results in a scattering of birds. Spectre roars in panic at being abruptly awoken at the sound of my scream. Panting frantically with sweat flowing down my face like a waterfall, I bury my face into my hands.
That was Korraâs voice. That was definitely Korraâs voice. But those imagesâŚ
When I fully joined the Air Nation and began my studies and training, I focused a lot on trying to gain more visions in hopes of finding any more clues on what the vision I experienced when Korra and I were held captive by Tarrlok was about. I barely remembered any of it. Future visions I had had the same fate, I barely remembered it.
Now, though? Now, Iâm glad to know I was able to remember all of it.
Itâs a clue. Korra was definitely in the Earth Kingdom and she was definitely fighting in what seemed to be an arena. But why? What for? Did Korra justâŚgive up and start fresh?
No. No, donât be stupid. Korra doesnât give up. No, thereâs got to be a good reason why she was there. Maybe she was forced to fight? But her conversation with that man didnât appear like she was forced. So, what?
Releasing my face, I look back up and the black-orange sky is now gone, replaced by the blueish ocean high above symbolising that it is now midday. I have been asleep for a good amount of time. Now, Iâm recharged.
Spectre grumbles in a questioning tone. Are you okay?
âIâm okay, Spectre.â I tell him, patting him. âI just had a vision. We now have a clue on where Korra is.â
From the vision, I saw that the town was right by the infamous woods and swamps. And, I have a feeling I will let the universe guide me to the right location. Just follow my gut.
âLetâs get going, boy. Yip yip.â
TIME SKIP
After a few hours of exploring the kingdom, I find it. The town looks just like what it did in my visions. Average rundown buildings with alleys littered with rubbish. We ride past it for a few minutes, trying to find that one building that housed the cage fight. It takes a while but eventually a find it.
âWeâre here, Spectre.â I tell him. âGood job. You stay up here. Iâll call you when Iâm done.â
After a grumble of acknowledgement, I flip off the air bison and with my airbending I propel myself like a fireball towards the building. Then, just before I hit the ground, I flip forward and spin around, slowing my speed until, finally, I land gracefully on the ground. As I do so, I see a number of citizens around me gazing at me with awe, jaws dropped in amazement.
I ignore their looks. Instead, I march towards my destination and head inside the building. After a few quick steps, I am greeted by a familiar site: An arena surrounded by a silver-grey cage, filled with colours of forest-green and golden-yellow with a powerful symbol of a intimidating fist destroying a piece of earth with its power.
This is the place all right. This is where Korra was. But now the questions are just resurfacing. Why was she here? Was she forced to fight? Or did she come here on her own accord?
âOh, uh, youâre an Air Nomad!â
I turn to the left at the sound of the familiar voice. Heâs a skinny man wearing a dark green jacket of some sorts with a shirt of a lighter shade of the same colour underneath as well as a grey, unkempt and baggy trousers. As for his face, he has a short and narrow spiky black hair with a thin black moustache and dark brown eyes. His sharp eyebrows are raised in surprise at seeing an Air Nomad of all people in such a violent setting.
That voice. I know that voice. Itâs the one from the vision. This is the man who talked to Korra.
I approach the figure with a glare. âAre you in charge of this establishment?â
The sound of my steel voice causes him to back away a bit. Then, realising that heâs making a fool of myself, leans forward and stands straighter in an attempt to appear confident. âI am. Whatâs this about?â
âI am here to discuss about one of your fighters.â I tell him. âSpecifically, one from a recent fight.â
Clearly my answer isnât what he was expecting as he frowns slightly in confusion. âUh, sure. But you do realise how many fighters come here, right? I donât keep a log or anything.â
Dammit. Just when I thought I couldnât run in any more problems Still, any bit of information will be useful.
âI am aware.â I lie so I donât betray my intimidating image. âHowever, the one I am looking for will be easy for you to remember. Did you hire a fighter that looked like Avatar Korra?â
âUh, yeah.â He says, confusion growing. âI did. She came in, asked to enter, got her butt kicked, I paid her, and she went on her way.â
So, she did come here on her own accord. But why? Surely, it couldnât have been for money.
âDid you see where she went?â
The frown on the manâs face increases. âWhatâs this about?â
âDid you see where she went?â I repeat, adding further steel to my voice. I donât have time to answer this guyâs question.
âNo, I didnât!â The man sputters, leaning back slightly in anxiousness. âI donât track my clients!â
I look away from the man and mutter a curse under my breath. Dammit!
I guess that means I have to ask around if anyoneâs seen Korra which might take a while. Terrific.
âWhat did she look like?â
âBlue eyes, short hair, wearing green.â He lists off. âShe wasnât Avatar Korra, right? She fought terribly!â
I shoot a glare back at the man and he silences himself immediately.
âThank you for your cooperation.â I tell him professionally. âYou will not reveal the details of this conversation to anyone. Is that understood?â
He nods. âYep! You got it! Understood!â
I nod in return and, just like that, I walk back into the outside world.
Korra might still be in this town. Somewhere. Sheâs also trimmed her hair. Huh, Korra with short hair. Never thought that would happen.
I glance at my dark skinned hands that surround the bold and blue arrow tattoos that symbolise my mastery of airbending. I changed tooâŚin more ways than one.
Staring into my eyes I see only oblivion, a sad darkness emanating over them. But that darkness is overwhelmed by the brightness that covers my skin.
Glancing upwards at my reflection from the dark ocean to the large, tattooed arrow on my forehead that stretches all way down my back. Moving my arms upward, I examine the same arrows on my hands.
Itâs official. I am an airbending master. The first master of the Harmonic Convergence airbenders. The first master of the new airbenders.
The official ceremony of my ascension has been over for hours now. Everyone has either gone back to Republic City or gone to sleep on Air Temple Island. It was great. It was really great.
And yetâŚ
Two years. Itâs been two years since Iâve spoken to Korra and my parents. None of them were here to see me in my proudest moment of being an Air Nomad.
As much as I enjoyed and was honoured by it all, their absence amplified the emptiness in my heart. I really, really wish they were there.
Tears land directly on the arrows and my hands tremble.
Dammit.
âY/N?â
Jinora!
Wiping the tears away, I turn to the source of the voice. Standing a few meters before me is Jinora in her pyjamas. Her hair is blowing elegantly in the wind and her eyes wash with concern.
âJinora.â I greet in a neutral tone, hoping to not betray my sadness. âI hope I didnât wake you.â
She shakes her head and she walks a few steps forward until she reaches my side, both of us standing at the very edge of the port of the island, pointing in the direction of the mystical and glowing golden lights of Republic City.
I turn back to gaze at the city alongside her, my cape breezing in the wind. The wind also brings a new chilly feeling to my now shaven head and I rub it a bit.
âNot used to it, right?â Jinora asks with amusement.
I chuckle, grateful at the attempt to lighten the somewhat sombre mood. âYeah. I never thought I would go bald. I have to say, Iâm really not liking the look. Canât wait to get my beautiful hair back.â
The younger airbender laughs. âThatâs exactly how I felt when my hair was shaven.â she says as she touches a strand of hair and placing it away from her face. âI was relieved when I finally grew out my hair again.â
I hum in acknowledgement. âThat was two years ago. Itâs crazy how fast time has passed. Sometimes it feels like my life is riding on the fastest satmobile in the world.â
âI get what youâre feeling.â Jinora says. âWith my new role as a master, Iâve gotten a lot of new responsibilities which means Iâve been too busy to notice the passage of time.â
âWell, now I am a master, we can share the responsibilities and your busy time could be halved. Iâm sure Kai would really like that.â
Even in the night sky, I can see the red tinge on Jinoraâs cheeks. âShut up.â
âNo, really.â I assure her. âHe would. I know you would too.â
âI will.â She agrees, a smile forming on her lips. âThere are times where weâve been so busy that we barely spend time together. Not to mention the times where Kai or I have to go somewhere. But weâre doing good.â
I smile. âYou love him, donât you?â
Her blush deepens and shyly looks away. âIâŚI think I do. I know, its silly because of how young I am butâŚâ
âHey, your grandparents were around your age when they got together.â I assure her. âIf you love him, you love him. Doesnât matter how old you are.â
She glances back up at me and her smile widens. âThanks.â
âDonât mention it. And, in my opinion, I think he loves you too.â
And just like that, she blushes again.
I chuckle and I turn back to gaze back at the city. We stand there in a comfortable silence for a minute or two, the gentle wind acting as a soothing cool rather than a frozen current.
âYou were thinking about Korra and your parents, werenât you?â Jinora eventually asks with caution, careful not to disrupt the calmness of the situation.
I sigh heavily. âAm I that easy to read?â
âIâm a good guesser and youâre deflecting.â
I snort. Smart.
âYeah. I was.â I answer her. âIts been two years since I spoken to any of them and they were not on the best terms. Not seeing them at my ceremony wasâŚvery difficult to handle.â
I turn back to her and give her a reassuring smile. âBut I did have a good time. Really, I did. All of you there made me feel very proud of myself. I know all airbenders are our family but, really, I can only really say that to a select few. Team Avatar is my family but nowadays its just Mako, Asami, and I, and whenever Mako goes Prince Wu follows and you know how I feel about that. But, to be honest, since I stopped talking to my mum and dad, Tenzin and Pema have been second parents to me. And I care about Ikki, Meelo, and Rohan, I really do, but JinoraâŚyouâre like a little sister to me. So, thank you. For everything.â
Immediately, two strong arms wrap around my waist and Jinora pulls herself to me in a tight hug, head pressed to my chest. I bent down slightly and hug her back, feeling a comfortable warmth swarming me.
âYouâre the older sibling I never had.â Jinora says, her speech muffled but the family love obvious. âThank you.â
My smile widens and all the bitterness I felt mere moments ago has now been vanquished, replaced by my love for my new family.
When we finally release from each other, much colder air blows against us and Jinora shivers. Best we donât stay out here any longer.
âWe should probably get some shut eye. We have a lot of stuff to do tomorrow.â
Jinora nods in agreement. âYeah.â
Then, a smug smile forms on her lips and, all of a sudden, she dashes toward the island in a run. âRace you to the entrance!â
âHey, thatâs cheating!â I exclaim with a grin as I dash after her.
Times have changed. I have changed. But I know I will always have a family.
I have been exploring this town, asking strangers, exploring every dark alley I can find and I have found NOTHING!
Where in the spirits has Korra ran off too?!
DAMMIT!
I reach to the end of the town where nothing but forests lie ahead. Those trees stretch out forever, its practically a maze in there.
But, then, a thought comes to my mind.
CouldâŚCould Korra be there?
I take a few steps towards the forest until I reach the very edge to the entrance of the labyrinth of green and wood.
I donât see why Korra would go there butâŚmaybe its worth a shot? I mean, I havenât found anything in the town. It wonât hurt to quickly look around some of the forest, right? Maybe some clues might be there.
I take a step forward and place my hand on the trunk of one of the trees-
-AND A BLINDING LIGHT CONSUMES ME!
WHATâS GOING ON?! WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?!
But the light fades and, in my mindâs eye, I see only one imageâŚ
A small, singular island. An Island I recognise all too well from the books Iâve read.
And, like that, the image is gone and I return to the here and now. My hand is still on the trunk of the tree.
ThatâŚThatâs the first time a vision has happened when Iâm not meditating or sleeping. ThisâŚThis is new.
But, that doesnât matter. No. This has got to be a clue where Korra went off to. Itâs got to be! Why else would I have been given that vision? I donât know why sheâs there, but Iâm about to find out.
I take one last glance at the silent woods and I turn and rush off to get to Spectre. When I finally meet up with him, I hop onto him and grab the rope to steer him to another direction.
The air bison lets out a questioning grumble. Where are we going?
I frown in determination.
âWeâre going to Kyoshi Island.â
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And that's it!
I hope you all enjoyed it!
Feedback is appreciated!
See you all in the next chapter! :D

Thank you once again for proving everything I said in this post. Like... it's crazy right ? The person apparently knows what we're talking about, without ever having bothered to read /see anything about it. It's shocking. No, really, please confirm that this person knows nothing about the analyzes regarding Zutara. But she claims that everything we say is just invention or misinterpretation, without basing it on what happened in the series. That we just horny. (Dante Basco is horny for Zutara so ? I swear the argument about being horny is so stupid and a reflection of lack of critical arguments)
I have no qualms about saying this person is an idiot. After all, I don't have a brain according to her.
Also, I love when we are told that Zutara is self-insert, when the whole kataang relationship is based on Bryke's self-insert. And I'm not even going to talk about how Aang is drawn in TLOK. The hero of the series and his relationship with Katara are both based on self-insert. That's a truth.
Also... It was this person who came to insult me. Not me. I didn't insult Maiko fans. I published an anti post on an anti tag on my tumblr, without insulting the senders. I didn't go looking for them to harass them. In the meantime, this same person reblogged my posts to constantly insult me. So, wtf ?
This person is talking about this video :
youtube
For those who know this video, it's precisely a video analyzing tons of moments / events from the Atla series... And not just a girl talking about "vast misinterpretations" for two hours (for those who don't know it, I highly recommend it). There are literal scenes used to prove / support the point of view, exactly as this anti want.
But obviously, this anti will never bother to watch this video, while pretending to know what she is talking about. But, that's the whole principle when we talk about Zutara. We talk about their scenes in the series. No scenes from our imagination ! Wtf ?!
Let's be clear, if I generally post or send this video it is to prevent me from wasting my time unnecessarily sending messages to people who will not change their minds anyway. For what ? Because this video is essentially a summary of my opinion on the Zutara question with the arguments very well illustrated and supported by the scenes of the series and or its narration with the explanation of the character arcs, etc.
What I like the most is seeing people proud to affirm that they don't watch or read Zutara analyses, and then try to pretend they know what we're talking about in our analyzes dedicated to the Ship.
How everything we say is just fantasy, our imagination. That we are actually talking about events that never happened ! Or everything is misinterpretations because Zutara makes us horny. This ship is only based on thirst and the superficial pairing of the color blue and red in addition to their physical appearance ! Nothing deep ! (Thank you again for confirming that you have probably never read or watched Zutara analyses)
I don't understand why it's so hard for people to understand that canonical events aren't always good (especially for the characters) or well done in a story. We have to stop the bullshit. There are tons of examples of series with poor writing choices. Stop pretending that having a different opinion from canon is inherently wrong. (Or the show Atla is perfect)
Especially when your only arguments are to say that the opposing team's analyzes are like this or that, when in fact, you don't even look at them ! You have no credibility.
To say that we like a certain relationship because we are superficial / horny, and that if we like it is because we have understood nothing about the series, to see frankly that in fact we do not like it and that we do not like the characters, just because we don't accept certain choices of creators, is essentially admitting to not having any arguments in my opinion.
The anti Zutara piss me off with their fucking condescension.
Also... saying the Zutara fandom is dead ? Make me laugh.
Also, if you actually like Zutara for these reasons, namely the fire / water, red / blue pairing, the fact that these characters physically fit together and you find them sexy, well there is no does nothing wrong, because it's fictional. But the fact is that I've never seen Zutara fans like this ship for these things (except for the fire and water aspect, but generally in its context of Yin and Yang, therefore complementarity, which is in fact each time associated with the characters, their behaviors, relationships and arcs. So always in a deep and not superficial perspective). In fact they are never even named in the analyzes which I come across. Quite simply because generally, Zutara fans are very intelligent people with remarkable analytical skills regarding the Zutara relationship, canonically a friendship, but also clearly with a romantic connotation of very / too many times... But I won't dwell on that since the very video on this post already talks about it.
Kisses to all Zutara fans. And fuck anyone who comes and tells me, or even thinks, that I don't have a brain.
Merry Christmas to everyone.
