Figured other people trying to learn Japense outside of Duolingo should have these.
>when I was learning Japanese
If you are native English speaker, get the Genki textbook series. It's good. Some links: >https://itazuraneko.neocities.org/learn/kana (start with this!) >https://guidetojapanese.org/learn/grammar >https://www.imabi.net/ >https://jisho.org (dictionary). Alternative: http://nihongo.monash.edu/cgi-bin/wwwjdic?1C >https://kanji.sljfaq.org/draw.html (look up kanji by drawing it) >https://www.tofugu.com >https://www.youtube.com/@JapanesePod101 >https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ky%C5%8Diku_kanji (this is reasonable order to learn the kanji) >https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_kanji_radicals_by_stroke_count >https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_j%C5%8Dy%C5%8D_kanji >https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Japanese The best way to learn kana (hiragana + katakana) and kanji is to also write them on paper by hand (print out some practice sheets/drill sheets. Use Searx to find them.). Follow the correct stroke order (very important, not just nitpicking). Be sure to learn both hiragana and katakana before you start learning kanji! You can find out the correct stroke order for kana here (or from some other place): https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Table_hiragana.svg + https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Table_katakana.svg  Avoid rōmaji (even as beginner!). Write sentences in kana on paper (and later start adding kanji characters). Kana and kanji character should be much larger than western/Latin characters. I recommend you buy notebook that has squares. Use about 4x4 (or even 6x6) squares for 1 (!) character when you are learning them. Try to get the proportions right. If you make a mistake, don't correct it. Instead start writing the character again (from the beginning). You may want to use Anki but don't overuse it. It's best to also start reading (Yotsuba to! is good first manga) and remember to practice writing as well. Pro Tip: If you use GNU Emacs, you can use M-x set-input-method  to change the input method to Japanese (start with japanese{-hiragana,-katakana}. Pro Tip:  You can add Japanese keyboard to your Android keyboard (gboard). Go Settings --> System --> Languages & input --> Virtual keyboard (under Keyboards heading) --> Gboard --> Languages --> "add keyboard". Then just find Japanese.  (you get Japanese style emoticons/kaomoji as bonus). You can switch the keyboard by pressing and holding spacebar or by pressing the dedicated button for switching the language.
While you are on the Gboard settings, be sure to disable the telemetry (IIRC, it's under advanced settings)

I'm sorry but my comments is generic and if that makes me look like a bot then I may as well stop. Because I do not have the mental capacity to think up something unique for every comment I write, or to try and recall what line I liked or something about a character. I just want to give the writer the added encouragement when I read, usually re-read and therefore can't leave kudos, but that is unwelcome now I guess.
Hi anon. I'm sorry you feel that way, but that's not what was said. You don't have to leave something unique for every comment you write! You don't have to try and recall anything complex if you can't! We're not expecting complete originality - of course not! And no comment is unwelcome. We just want to know you're not a bot.
What I said was, word for word:
Readers: if you comment like this usually, add in some identifying detail from the fic (a character name, a line you liked, the name of the fandom, etc.). Don't let this stop you from commenting, please!
What this means is:
Write the comment exactly the way you would normally. Then, if you want to, before you hit post, add in one identifying detail. Even by tacking it on the end, if you like.
(Pro tip: Ought always implies Can. What that means is, if something says 'do this' and your response is 'I can't', then that suggestion wasn't for you.)
Examples using modified versions of the comments from the original post:
Fantastic story! I couldn't stop reading it, and the character development was incredibly engaging, especially for [Crowley]. Bravo!
The way you describe the settings is incredibly vivid. I felt like I was right there with [Aziraphale and Anathema], experiencing everything. Fantastic writing!
The dialogue in this fic is so natural and true to the characters. It felt like I was eavesdropping on their conversations, especially the [dolphins] one. You've captured their voices perfectly.
Or alternatively, add one of these onto whatever you wrote otherwise:
(Not a bot, btw. Thanks for writing for the [Good Omens] fandom!)
My favourite line was "[pasted line you highlighted and copied while reading]".
The [Good Omens] fandom is so lucky to have you!
I love [Madame Tracy] so much!!!
(The bits in bold are my additions to the originals. You would just swap out the [bracketed] sections for the identifying detail relevant to the fic. Very minimal changes to the comments as they existed, but immediately more personal.)
That's it! That's all that was suggested.
Again, suggested. Sorry if you thought anything else, but this is fandom and everything you do here is completely up to you. This is advice! It's not compulsory! Not mandatory! Not essential! Just a nice idea to stop a writer from worrying that you're a bot and fearing that their fic was just scraped for an ai.
And I've said it before, but I'll say it again - if you don't have the energy for actual sentences, that's fine!! Emojis are a fantastic way of getting your emotions across, and the bots aren't using them yet. They also appear to be going for dictionary words, so keyboard smashes ("asdfghjkl") and extended screaming ("aaaaahhhhh oh my goddddd") are also great! As are "extra kudos" or "came back for a re-read, thank you again!" or "re-read number five, this fic is incredible" or whatever else. We're not expecting essays. (They're appreciated when they show up, of course! But never expected.) We just want to know there's a real person there.
Anon, I'm sorry you feel dispirited by my comment on that post. But I hope this makes it clear that you're not required to do anything at all if you really don't want to. It was just a simple idea to help someone out. I (and others in the notes on that post) thought it would just be a nice gesture to save an author from stress, if you can.
Please keep commenting. If you don't have the mental capacity to change what you're doing, then don't. But if you do, adding just a couple of words can make all the difference.

How Can You Improve Your Android Device’s Autocorrect?
Tumblr media
Autocorrect is one of those things that you either love or hate, depending on how many times it has saved you from embarrassment or been a source of embarrassment. Without appropriate context, it can sometimes struggle to offer you appropriate suggestions. Thankfully, you can make autocorrect work a bit better for you, and if you are just sick of it altogether, you can disable it.
WARNING: Infradapt takes no responsibility for any embarrassing spelling mistakes made after utilizing this advice. Proceed at your own risk.
Adjust Your Android’s Gboard Autocorrect
Follow these tips and you can adjust your Gboard keyboard (the default software keyboard that comes with most Android devices).
The first step is to find your Gboard settings. To do this, go to your Settings app and follow: System > Languages and Input > On-Screen Keyboard > Gboard > Text Correction.
You can make adjustments to your Auto-Correction here by turning it on or off. You can also change settings for predictive text with the Show Suggest Strip selection. This gives you some control over things like vulgarity, offensive words, content referrals, and such.
You also have options to add words to your personal dictionary. To do so, skip selecting Text Correction and instead select Dictionary > Personal Dictionary. You can add words with the + button and create custom shortcuts that Gboard can call upon.
Gboard can also try to learn more about how you communicate through the text you type. You can change settings for this by going to System > Languages and Input > On-Screen Keyboard > Gboard > Advanced > Improve voice & typing. This setting uses data saved on your device to try to offer you a better user experience. You can clear this data and start fresh by selecting Delete learned words and data.
Adjusting iOS’s Autocorrect
Gboard offers more customization options than iOS’s keyboard does, but this doesn’t mean you have zero control over it.
You’ll have to navigate to your Settings first to see the Keyboard options. From here you can activate or deactivate Auto-Correction and Predictive text options. The screen will still highlight misspelled words, but if you want to turn this off, you can do so with the Check Spelling option. Until you turn it off, tapping a misspelled word will still give you suggestions.
To make changes to your predictive text dictionary, you’ll have to start from scratch. To do this, go to Settings > General Transfer or Reset Phone > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary.
You can get around the Auto-Correction feature somewhat by using iOS’ text replacement feature. You just set a specific phrase, for example, “ttyl,” to be replaced by the full meaning of the phrase, “talk to you later.” Then, whenever the custom word appears, it will change to whatever you set it to.

The custom dictionary in word allows you to add your own
Tumblr media
The custom dictionary in word allows you to add your own update#
The custom dictionary in word allows you to add your own for android#
Open Grammarly’s companion app, choose Grammarly Settings, and then tap Manage Personal Dictionary.
The custom dictionary in word allows you to add your own for android#
Here’s a tip: If you use the Grammarly Keyboard for Android or iOS, you can also access your Personal Dictionary from your phone. You can also add additional words or remove words that are already there. In step 6, you may also enter an optional Shortcut. Under Phrase type the word you want to add to your iPhone’s dictionary. Tap the plus (+) icon from the upper right. Next time you type a word that’s flagged as a misspelling, instead of clicking “Ignore,” click “Add to Dictionary.” (In the Grammarly Editor, look for a small book icon.)Īlternatively, you can access your personal dictionary by visiting and clicking on “Account,” and then choosing “Customize.” Here you can see all the words you’ve added to your Personal Dictionary. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. You can even add non-English words like que if you can write them in English letters. Does your company make a product called the robobike ? You can add that too. Have a cutesy pet name for your significant other? Go ahead and add it-we won’t judge, even if it’s something embarrassing, like gooberbuns.
The custom dictionary in word allows you to add your own update#
Excited to tell everyone about your adorable new schnauzer-poodle mix? Update your Personal Dictionary to stop seeing a red underline every time you type schnoodle. You can add any single word consisting entirely of English letters. When you add a word to your Personal Dictionary, you’ll stop seeing Grammarly flag it as a misspelled or unknown term. That’s why Grammarly allows you to create a Personal Dictionary. To make the cut, a word needs to become common enough that it appears in multiple written sources and it needs to stick around.īut everyone has a personal lexicon containing at least a few important, unique words that won’t appear in the dictionary anytime soon. Dictionary editors spend years tracking individual words before officially adding them to their dictionaries.

Hey! I was wondering if you had any tips for writing (motivation, ideas, etc.) it would mean a lot since you’re one of my favorite writers! Thank u! :)
Awe, this is so sweet omg! Thank you :D Music is one of my favorite ways to get ideas/motivation. It’s also one of the easiest to get inspiration!! Just slap on a playlist (you could even use one of mine! This is my spotify :D) and daydream a little bit. My best stories always stem from daydreams.  This might just be a me thing, but I find that if I plan out a fic to a T, I don’t want to write it because I feel as though it would be writing it twice. (Sort of like writing it mentally then writing it physically. Seems a bit counterproductive??) And that sorta makes it less fun to write. So, just go with a flow. Have a basic idea of what you want to do, and just write. See where your keyboard takes you. You can always add/delete things so there is very little stress. It’s like a lil adventure :) Look up prompts online (v fun for soulmate aus, or just aus in general) or go to the dictionary and pick a random page and random word. Write a story on that. Get creative. Or write a fic based on a funny convo you and your friends had. my favorite writing/daydream exercise is how would xyz react to my day to day life? How would they react/respond to the things I do every day? That could give you some fun ideas! Get to know your characters really well. Form your own headcanons, discover how they talk, discover how they walk, their mannerisms. If you know your characters really well and they're your version of the character, your fics will write themselves. Every writer has a slightly different version of each character, so develop your own! It’s fun! If you want any ideas on how to characterize anyone, I’m more than happy to chat with you about it. I absolutely adore them and can talk for hours lol Have a fun writing space or time you love to write. For me, I only really write between 7 pm and midnight. That’s when I find it’s the most fun for me and the vibe is right. I also only write at my desk with my blue lights on. It creates the best vibe and the best writing environment for me. For you that could be on your bed, or living room or whatever. Make it fun for you and a place/time you look forward to.  Read other people’s fanfics. It might inspire you to write your own, help you get to know your characters, or even just give your blog more exposure. Don’t plagiarize though, please. Support fellow writers! We’re all here writing about things we love, so be nice! These are the people that will read your fics and hopefully give you some feedback! Friends!  Make writing a FUN activity. This isn’t a job; this is a hobby. It should be something you look forward to and something you love doing. Don’t write something you don’t want to. AGAIN: don't write if you don't want to. Don’t pressure yourself. Don’t make writing homework. You are allowed to say no to a request if you absolutely hate it. Don’t be afraid to set boundaries for yourself or with your readers.  If you really can’t say no, I’m very guilty of that, make it a challenge for yourself. Try to think of the request/prompt differently than what’s presented. How would your character really react? How would they react if xyz was there and not just by themselves? Add outside conflict, or lock them in one place. (Ie: they're stuck in this one place with just this conflict and no way out. what would they do? how would the solve the problem?) Don’t be afraid to post your works. Just slap it up! What’s the worst thing that could happen? This is tumblr, full of people you probably don’t know irl. It’s all good! Everyone i’ve met/seen is so sweet and supportive!!!! You got this!!!! And lastly, write for you, not your audience. Your opinion on your work is most important, so value your entertainment above all else. Again, this is a HOBBY, not a JOB. You are writing for free. So, have fun. Get excited about what you write. Write fics you've always wanted to read or headcanons you love. Do this for YOU.   I believe in you and I know your fics are fantastic. Please send them to me, I’d love to read them!!!! I’m going to try to start a fic rec list so please don't be shy to send them.

back-to-school tools
Tumblr media
‘tis the season again, so here are some handy websites and browser extensions i’ve discovered over the past few years that’ll hopefully make this year a bit easier for you. i’m taking high-school-level classes, but a lot of these should help with college/uni work, too!
feel free to reblog and add your own recommendations :)
the only ones you have to install and/or sign up for have an asterisk, but note that they’re all free either way.
L A N G U A G E   A R T S
planet ebook
this is my go-to for digital (and legal!) classic literature. i download the pdf files and upload them to places like one note to annotate, but epub and mobi versions are also available if you prefer those. no need to break your back over hauling textbooks and your required readings!
audible stories
this doesn’t have the widest selection of audio books, but it definitely has its uses! there are a lot of classics on there, which could come in handy for a literature or english class.
easybib
this is the best citation tool ever. i love that i can choose which style i want to use and what kind of media i’m researching with (books, journals, websites, etc.). if i need to, i can go in and edit any (citation) category i want, but that isn’t usually necessary because it can find stats that even i can’t while looking at the source. enter some info, copy ‘n paste the works cited list to your paper, and you’re done!
i recommend the web version and not the google docs add-on because the add-on doesn’t let you customize your citations
gradeproof* or grammarly*
these are both grammar/spelling checkers that provide plenty of stats, which are most useful for speeches. you can use these to see your character count, word count, number of sentences, syllables per word, words per sentence, readability, grade level, reading time, speaking time, etc.
wordcounter
this is a great alternative if you can’t/don’t want to install gradeproof or grammarly.
powerthesaurus
this is my go-to thesaurus... it has a ton of features if you go on the website (it’s not just for synonyms, though those are seemingly endless!). plus, if i don’t want to open a new tab, i can use the extension in my toolbar to see a brief list!
just a word of caution: look up any words you don’t know (because if you go far enough down the list, they’re not completely relevant anymore).
onelook
i use this reverse dictionary to find the word that’s on the tip of my tongue but i just can’t name (though it has a lot more features than that!).
cueprompter
this is the perfect teleprompter for any speeches you need to record (maybe for an online graduation? a virtual debate?).
xodo*
this is a great digital annotation tool (right in your browser) for those of you who don’t have an app like goodnotes on your ipad. you can upload files from your google drive, your device, or dropbox and draw on them, type notes, add comments, highlight, choose different underline patterns, add shapes/arrows, etc. all while customizing opacity, thickness, and colors. you’re also able to zoom in/out, change page width, rotate the page, change your layout (pdf, book, magazine), and choose a transition style.
A R T
canva*
i love this site to death---if you haven’t heard of it yet, what are you doing?? i can design everything from a resume to a powerpoint to a school dance flyer on this thing! there are beautiful templates to choose from, but if that’s not your thing (it isn’t mine either), then there are millions of photos, doodles, graphics, fonts, borders, backgrounds, etc. to choose from. plus, you can even upload your own content. (i designed the header for this post on there!)
F O R E I G N   L A N G U A G E S
typeit
i hate having to remember all the keyboard shortcuts for special characters, so i just copy and paste from this international keyboard. choose a language, and you’re good to go. :)
audible stories
did i put this in two different categories? yes. audible stories has free audio books in english, spanish, french, german, portuguese, italian, dutch, and japanese! i recommend finding a children’s audiobook on there in your target language and pulling up an ebook online so you can improve your listening and comprehension skills. there’s no need to download any content, and it still saves your spot (even once you close the tab), which is a lifesaver!
duolingo*
i think we all know by now that this site is good for practicing your sentence-writing skills and gaining a little extra vocab. keep in mind that this only helps if you take notes on your mistakes and type answers out yourself as opposed to mindlessly clicking through multiple choice questions! duolingo stories are also great for working on your listening comprehension skills and some immersion.
linguno*
i use this site for conjugations because that’s its main asset, but there are other things you can look into if you like. i love that i can choose a section and a level (ex: a1 level one, a1 level two, a1 level three, etc.) or add my own list of words. the rest is super customizable too! you can also choose which tenses you want to work on and what set of pronouns you want to focus on (for example, european spanish uses “vosotros” while latin american spanish does not).
S C I E N C E
molview
build your own molecules or search ones that already exist to explore what they’re used for, their structure, their composition, 2-d/3-d models, formulas, molecular weight, etc.
ptable
this dynamic periodic table has a million features for each element, which makes it perfect for researching and figuring out why the table is laid out the way it is.
phet
this is basically a virtual stem lab---atom-builders, circuit-builders, wave simulations, and interactive tools galore! it covers physics, chemistry, biology, math, and html5, though i’ve only used first three categories, so i can’t exactly recommend the others.
M A T H
geogebra or desmos
these babies are graphing tools perfect for checking functions and all that jazz (they’re basically the exact same except geogebra has a couple more bells and whistles).
symbolab
use this to check your answers and review the steps if you’re stuck! when it gets into some nitty-gritty stuff, you have to have the paid plan to see some of the steps, but i think it’s helpful enough that you can stick with the free version. it covers pre-alg, alg, pre-calc, calc, functions, matrices & vectors, geometry, trig, stats, physics, chem, finance, conversions, etc. (i use this to avoid silly mistakes and the ixl rage that follows haha).
mathway*
this is very similar to symbolab except that it doesn’t show any steps at all unless you pay for a plan. you can use this for basic math, pre-alg, alg, trig, pre-calc, calc, stats, finite math, etc. as a cross-checker in case symbolab is being funky.

11 tips FROM HOW *I* learned MANDARIN IN 14 DAYS (number 1 will SHOCK you):
It's not possible to become fluent in a language in less than a month. That said, what I did set out to do was to complete the entire Duolingo Chinese tree in a week or less. I failed at this, primarily because to do so would be to put finishing the course over learning it and therefore I had decided to instead up the time limit to two weeks which I had completed. First, I had zero interests in learning how to write in Chinese; Second, I had zero interests in learning how to speak Chinese. These preconceived thoughts are not healthy for learning a language and I quickly learned that sort of thought-process is unacceptable. Writing in Chinese is very helpful to understand the context of a word and although I have not physically written any words in Chinese in the past 4 years (probably), I still had to learn logogramic structure and radicals.
To learn the meaning of kangxi radicals; Also has information on other languages as well: https://www.lexisrex.com/Chinese/Radicals
Chinese dictionary by radicals: https://www.chinese-tools.com/tools/sinograms.html?r=
Another Chinese dictionary that sorts by character structure as well: https://www.yellowbridge.com/chinese/adv-character-dictionary.php
Another Chinese logogram search tool that includes Traditional Chinese radicals as well as pinyin: https://www.xiaoma.info/bushou.php?ext=1
A JAPANESE multiradical tool which also works for many Chinese logograms as well: https://kanji.sljfaq.org/mr-old.html
***
To learn the structure of sentences, I used the Chinese course on Duolingo but Duolingo isn't perfect and is generally not recommended by a lot of Chinese teachers. What it does enforce is discipline which is important when anyone wants to learn a language--to keep learning and to never give up. Even if you finish your course, you will still be learning from the outside world.
https://www.duolingo.com/
Although Duolingo doesn't officially have interactive stories to learn from in Chinese, you can use the unofficial stories created by fans and linked below to test your comprehension: https://carex.uber.space/stories/index.html?lang=zh&lang_base=en
Another helpful guide I used is the Chinese Grammar Wiki. This website is useful for understanding Chinese sentence structure which is explained by Duolingo but isn't always clearly defined.
https://resources.allsetlearning.com/chinese/grammar/Chinese_word_order
↑ I consider this website to be especially helpful in explaining the Subject + Time + Place + Verb + Object format that is very different from English's Subject + Verb + Object + Location + Time (and English's unstructured word salad format in general.)
This website is also helpful for a bunch of miscellaneous stuff that someone might find interesting: https://www.chinese-tools.com/
One thing I DON'T recommend is to try to finish the entire Chinese skill tree and 5/5 it in 14 days because not only is it grueling, exhausting, boring, an eye-strain, and joyless, I also barely remember anything because I rushed through it.
Lastly, if you're on Windows, you can activate the pinyin keyboard by going to: {Windows 7: Control Panel> Clock, Language, and Region > Region and Language > Keyboards and Languages > [Change Keyboards...] > General-[Add...] > Chinese (Simplified, PRC)/toggle: "Chinese (Simplified) - Microsoft Pinyin ABC Input Style" > [OK] } You can then toggle it by pressing ctrl+SHIFT (I have it set to ctrl+Alt or by clicking on the icon in the Windows taskbar There are more than one Chinese keyboard but that's the one I use. You can play around with it yourself if you'd like :)
Anyway, now that I'm finished listing resources, I'll try to make up some tips uhhhh...
Make sure you're rested
Take notes
Remove any distractions
Eat plenty of grains
Don't be afraid to take rest breaks
Don't overwork yourself
Do plenty of stretches before, during, and after studying
Consume media containing the language if it helps (I follow a Chinese cuisine Youtube channel and I already own a lot of stuff that has Chinese writing on it--unfortunately, most American-Chinese stuff will be in Traditional script so I can't read it :))
Study the radicals! They are the building blocks of the language
Don't forget to learn pronunciation; the reason why I don't recommend skimping on learning auditory Chinese is because it makes it difficult to type in pinyin if you can only remember what a logogram looks like
Sentence structure is different; really hammer in how Chinese sentences are formed in comparison to English and Romance languages

Siri App For Mac
Tumblr media
Siri is the voice assistant on Apple devices, equivalent to Amazon's Alexa, Microsoft's Cortana, and Google's Google Assistant. Siri is available across most of Apple's devices, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and HomePod.
Siri App For Mac
Use Siri On Mac
Facetime App For Macbook Air
Facetime App For Macbook Pro Free
WatchOS4: 'Hey Siri, I'm going for a run' -> Started the Workout app and the run workout, straight to the 3 second timer. WatchOS5: 'Hey Siri, I'm going for a run' -> Starts the Workout app and then nothing. “With Siri, Apple basically created a smart operating system. While Siri is still limited, it shows the direction for the future of operating systems beyond mobile. It more closely resembles something we'd find via Cydia on a jailbroken iOS device, but she talks like Siri and acts like Siri, so let's just call her Siri. Admit it, you wish Siri was on your Mac, and so do I. “Hey Siri” is supported on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with iOS 8 or later while plugged in. Not supported on first-generation iPad, iPad 2, and first-generation iPad mini. Siri Suggestions for Shortcuts are supported on iPhone 6s or later, iPad Pro, iPad (5th generation or later), iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4. Apple Music subscription required.
Tumblr media
You can ask Siri all kinds of questions, from simple queries about the weather to more complex questions about everything from sports scores to the number of calories in food. Siri can also enable or disable settings, find content, set alarms and reminders, place calls and texts, and so much more. This guide covers the basics of Siri, including some of the commands you can use to activate Siri, devices that have Siri included, and devices that support more advanced hands-free 'Hey Siri' commands.
Activating Siri
On an iPhone or iPad, Siri can be activated by holding the Home button on compatible models or holding the Side button on devices without a Home button. On the Mac, you can click on the Siri app icon on the dock or the menu bar, or press and hold the command key and the space bar. On a Mac with a Touch Bar, you can press the Siri icon on the Touch Bar. On 2018 MacBook Air and Pro models or the iMac Pro, you can activate Siri with a 'Hey Siri' command. On the Apple Watch, you can say 'Hey Siri' to activate Siri. On Apple Watch Series 3 or later with the latest version of Apple Watch, there's a Raise to Speak feature that lets Siri respond to commands even without the Hey Siri trigger word. Just hold the watch near your mouth and speak. Siri can also be activated by holding down on the Digital Crown. On first-generation AirPods, a double tap activates Siri, and on second-generation AirPods, Siri can be activated with the 'Hey Siri' command. On HomePod, say 'Hey Siri' or press on the top of the HomePod to activate Siri. On Apple TV, hold down the Siri button on the remote (the button with the microphone) to activate Siri.
Devices Compatible With Siri
Siri is on almost every Apple device, and it's built into macOS, iOS, watchOS, and tvOS. You can activate Siri on Macs running macOS Sierra or later, all Apple Watch models, the fourth and fifth-generation Apple TV, all modern iPhones, the AirPods, and the HomePod.
Devices That Support 'Hey Siri' Without Power
Most Apple devices have support for the 'Hey Siri' activation command, but more recent iPads, iPhones, Macs, and Apple Watches offer hands-free 'Hey Siri' Siri support even when not connected to power. That means you can use the 'Hey Siri' trigger phrase at any time to activate Siri. Compatible devices are listed below:
iPhone 6s and later
Second-generation AirPods (iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch connection required)
5th-generation iPad and later
All iPad Pro models except the first-generation 12.9-inch model
5th-generation iPad mini
3rd-generation iPad Air
All Apple Watch models
HomePod
2018 MacBook Pro
2018 MacBook Air
iMac Pro
When multiple devices that can respond to 'Hey Siri' commands are available, the devices will use Bluetooth to determine which one should respond to the request so not all of them answer at once. According to Apple, the device that heard you best or the device that was most recently raised or used will respond. If you have a HomePod, the HomePod will often take precedent and respond to 'Hey Siri' requests even when other devices that support the feature are nearby.
Countries Where Siri Support is Available
Siri is available in more than 35 countries around the world, including the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and many countries in Asia and Europe. A full list of countries where Siri is available can be found on Apple's Feature Availability website. Certain Siri features like translations, sports info, restaurant information and reservations, movie information and showtimes, dictionary, calculations, and conversions are limited to a smaller number of countries.

Passive Siri
Siri is an active assistant that you can interact with, but Apple has also integrated Siri into other aspects of iOS and watchOS, allowing Siri to make proactive suggestions that you can act on. On the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, Siri can make various kinds of recommendations. When you're running late for a scheduled meeting, for example, Siri might suggest that you call your boss either on the Home screen or when you swipe down to search and access the Siri Suggestions options. In Messages and Mail, Siri can suggest things like phone numbers or addresses based on what you've typed, and in Safari, Siri can offer up search suggestions. Siri can do other things like suggest HomeKit scenes to activate, suggest a time to leave when you have an event scheduled, suggest events to add to your calendar from your email, and more. Siri suggestions are all based on your personal device usage habits, so what you see will vary. There's also a feature in iOS called 'Siri Shortcuts,' which are shortcuts and automations that let you complete multi-step tasks on your iPhone. Siri Shortcuts are so named because Siri will suggest them to you and because you can activate Shortcuts with a Siri trigger word.
Siri Videos
We've done several videos highlighting different Siri features, and our most recent can be found below.
Siri Privacy
Siri does send data back to Apple, but searches and requests are not associated with your identity to keep your personal information safe. Apple does not sell your data to advertisers or other organizations, and end-to-end encryption is used for all data syncing between your devices and the cloud.

For many Mac users, one of the top features of macOS 10.14 Mojave will be the new Home app and support for controlling HomeKit devices with Siri on the Mac. Both of these have been sorely missed in previous versions of macOS, but Mojave is finally changes things…
Home app
First and foremost, macOS 10.14 features a new Home app. As Apple explained on stage at WWDC, this is one of the applications it brought from iOS to macOS using new cross-platform frameworks.
On the surface, it’s not necessarily clear that the Home app was brought directly from iOS to macOS. It looks and operates like a Mac app for the most part, though there are some instances where things feel a bit wonky.
For instances, when you would 3D Touch in iOS app, you have to right-click on macOS. This isn’t explicitly clear and causes some funky windowing to occur. However, what’s important to remember here is that this is only the first beta of macOS 10.14 Mojave, and we can expect Apple to refine things as the testing continues over the coming months.
In terms of features, the Home app on macOS works just as you would expect it to. App for google photos mac download.
Along the top of the app, you have tabs for Home, Rooms, and Automation, as well as a “+” icon for creating a new scene or automation. At this time, it appears that scene creation is broken in the Home app for iOS and macOS, but that’ll be fixed in future betas.
Do you also know that the User Guides installed with them if you did a download/install and didn’t get a box with books in it? Note that if you already have a MyFonts folder on this Mac, you will want to add the content of the one you have copied from the first computer rather than simply pasting it into the Fonts folder, so that you do not lose any fonts already on this second computer. Do you know that there are reference guides for your PREMIER+ 2 embroidery software that are much more extensive than the User Guides you got in the box with your program installed on your computer? Gopro app for mac.
In the Home tab, you see all of your favorite accessories and scenes, just like on iOS. Right-clicking allows you to choose between Quick Controls, such as changing the brightness or color, as well as a “Settings” menu for changing the icon, name, and more.
Siri App For Mac
In the Rooms tab, you can filter between your various rooms and see each accessory there. To switch between Rooms, you have to use the “View” tab in the menu bar or swipe left/right with two-fingers on your Mac’s trackpad. Using the “Edit” option in the menu bar, you can view your list of existing rooms and create new ones.
Finally, in the Automation tab, you can view and edit your existing automations, while the “+” button lets you create new automatons. Tile app for mac desktop.
Siri Control
At long last, you can now use Siri on your Mac to control HomeKit accessories, as well. This works exactly how you would expect it to. Simply tap the Siri icon in the upper-right corner of your display and you can instantly start issuing commands.
Use Siri On Mac
Wrap up
It’s nice to finally have support for controlling HomeKit accessories from macOS, whether it be from the Home app or Siri.
Facetime App For Macbook Air
While the Home app on macOS still has its quirks, it’s incredibly useful for times when you don’t have your iPhone or iPad near you. Of course, we can also expect Apple to continue making improvements as the macOS 10.14 beta testing period continues.

Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17713 released
Tumblr media
Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17713 released. Resetting Skip Ahead We are getting close to the point in the development cycle where our focus will be on stabilization for RS5. As part of the stabilization process, we have “forked” RS5 into its own branch called “RS5_RELEASE” just like we did for RS4 and RS3 before that. Insiders will see this branch change with today’s build. And like we did with RS3 and RS4, we are getting ready to start releasing builds to Insiders who choose to “skip ahead” to the next release of Windows 10. These builds will come from the RS_PRERELEASE branch. However, this time we are doing a complete reset of Skip Ahead. Insiders who previously opted in to Skip Ahead will be automatically put back into the Fast ring. The option to join Skip Ahead will disappear from the dropdown under Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program. In the coming weeks, we will make an announcement that we have re-opened Skip Ahead for Insiders to opt-in. If you were previously in Skip Ahead, you will need to opt-in again. Our goal by resetting Skip Ahead is to allow Insiders who previously missed being able to opt-in to be able to do so as well as clear out some PCs that haven’t been active. Skip Ahead will remain capped with a limit and once that limit has been met, Insiders will no longer be able to opt-in. Stay tuned for an announcement in the coming weeks from us when we re-open Skip Ahead with more details. Microsoft Edge Improvements Per-site media autoplay controls: You can now control autoplay permissions on a per-site basis under the “Website permission” section of the Website Identification pane – just click the information icon or lock icon on the left side of the address bar and click “manage permissions” to get started. Lookup definitions for words in Reading View, Books, and PDFs: We’ve added a new dictionary function, so you can look up definitions for key words when reading a page or document. Simply select a single word to see the definition appear above your selection. You can choose to have a word read aloud to you to hear the correct pronunciation or expand more details from the definition. You can toggle whether definitions appear and which types of content they work in under the “General” tab of the Microsoft Edge settings menu. Microsoft Edge PDF Reader Improvements Improved toolbar options: The toolbar available on a PDF document opened in Microsoft Edge will now show text descriptions for the icons to make them easily understandable. by the users. New options like “Add notes” are now available in the toolbar so that these tools are handy when you need them. Pin/unpin PDF toolbar: The toolbar can now be pinned at the top of the document, making all the PDF tools easily accessible if you need them. You can also unpin the toolbar for an immersive reading experience. If the toolbar is unpinned, it will hide itself – just hover over the top area to bring it back. Rendering improvements: We’ve included a bunch of rendering performance fixes with this build. Now you will see less and less of the white pages when you navigate through PDF files in Microsoft Edge. Notepad Improvements With Build 17666, we introduced extended line ending support for Notepad. We’re excited to share that today’s build has a few more surprises in store based on what you’ve been telling us! Wrap-around find/replace: We’ve made significant improvement to the find/replace experience in Notepad. We added the option to do wrap-around find/replace to the find dialog and Notepad will now remember previously entered values and the state of checkboxes and automatically populate them the next time you open the find dialog. Additionally, when you have text selected and open the find dialog we will automatically populate the search field with the selected text. Text zooming: We’ve added options to make it quick and easy to zoom text in Notepad. There is a new menu option under View > Zoom to change the zoom level and we display the current zoom level in the status bar. You can also use Ctrl + Plus, Ctrl + Minus and Ctrl + MouseWheel to zoom in and out and use Ctrl + 0 to restore the zoom level to the default. Line numbers with word-wrap: A long outstanding request has been to add the ability to display line and column numbers when word-wrap is enabled. This is now possible in Notepad and we’ve made the status bar visible by default. You can still turn the status bar off in the View menu. Other Improvements: We’ve improved the performance when opening large files in Notepad. Notepad now supports Ctrl + Backspace to delete the previous word. Arrow keys now correctly unselect text first and then move the cursor. When saving a file in Notepad, the line and column number no longer reset to 1. Notepad now correctly displays lines that don’t fit entirely on the screen. Remote Desktop with Biometrics We’re happy to share that with this build of Windows 10, Azure Active Directory and Active Directory users using Windows Hello for Business can use biometrics to authenticate to a remote desktop session! Note: This feature does not work with convenience PIN. To get started, bring up Remote Desktop Connection (mstsc.exe), type the name of the computer to which you want to connect and click Connect. Because you signed using Windows Hello for Business, Windows remembers how you signed in and automatically selects Windows Hello for Business to authenticate you to your RDP session but, you can click More choices to choose alternate credentials. In this example, Windows uses facial recognition to authenticate the RDP session to the Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V server. You can continue to use Windows Hello for Business in the remote session, but you must use your PIN. Web Sign-in to Windows 10 Until now, Windows logon only supported the use of identities federated to ADFS or other providers that support the WS-Fed protocol. We are introducing “Web Sign-in,” a new way of signing into your Windows PC. Web Sign-in enables Windows logon support for  non-ADFS federated providers (e.g. SAML). To try out Web Sign-in: Azure AD Join your Windows 10 PC. (Note: Web Sign-in is only supported on Azure AD Joined PCs). 2. Set the following policy to enable Web Sign-in (Policy CSP/Authentication/EnableWebSignIn) 3. On the lock screen, select Web Sign-in under Sign-in options. 4. Click on the “Sign in” button to continue. Faster sign-in to a Windows 10 shared PC Do you have shared PCs deployed in your work place? Do you wish that signing in to a PC with your account was faster? Starting with this build, we are introducing “Fast Sign-in,” which enables users to sign in to a shared Windows 10 PC in a flash! To enable Fast Sign in, Set up a shared or guest PC with Windows 10 Set the following policy to enable Fast Sign in (Policy CSP/Authentication/EnableFastFirstSignIn) With the policy enabled, sign-in to a shared PC with your account and notice the difference! Windows Defender Application Guard Improvements Windows Defender Application Guard introduced a new user interface inside Windows Security in this release. Standalone users can now install and configure their Windows Defender Application Guard settings in Windows Security without needing to change Registry key settings. Additionally, users who are managed by enterprise policies will be able to check their settings to see what their administrators have configured for their machines to better understand the behavior of Windows Defender Application Guard. This new UI aims to improve the overall experience for users to manage and check their Windows Defender Application Guard settings. As long as devices meet the minimum requirements, these settings will appear in Windows Security. To check this out, go to Windows Security and select App & browser control. Select Install Windows Defender Application Guard under Isolated browsing, install and restart the device (only for standalone users). Select Change Application Guard settings. Configure or check Application Guard Settings. Inking Updates We introduced the embedded handwriting panel with the April 2018 Update, and after taking some time to refine the experience based on your feedback, in RS5 the embedded handwriting will now be the default experience for text entry with a pen in modern applications. Just tap a text area, like a search box, and it will expand to give you a comfortable area in which to write. You can even edit what you’ve written with simple, intuitive gestures. In places where embedded handwriting doesn’t support your language or isn’t supported by the app (e.g. legacy Win32 applications), you can still invoke the floating handwriting panel. General changes, improvements, and fixes We fixed an issue where the state of a Narrator command such as toggling Scan Mode on and off, volume up and down, voice speed, changing verbosity and context verbosity commands may not be announced when executed. We fixed an issue where you could see pixel thin lines in the fluent shadows depending on where the popup UI had been invoked. We fixed an issue where some of the text on the Settings > Privacy > File System page under “Allow apps to access your Filesystem” has some unusual characters in the place of spaces. We’ve made some improvements to the performance when loading the Language Settings page. We fixed an issue where powercfg /batteryreport was missing numbers in certain languages. We fixed an issue resulting in some apps failing to update via the Microsoft Store with error 0x8007019A if the update was paused and then resumed. We’ve adjusted the design of the “Settings and more”/“…” menu in Microsoft Edge so that the text “New inPrivate window” will no longer be clipped and added tips about the keyboard shortcuts for creating a new window and new inPrivate window. We fixed an issue where imported favorites on favorites bar in Microsoft Edge may not always load favicons. We fixed an issue that could result in an unclosable inPrivate window if it was created by dragging an inPrivate tab out of an existing Microsoft Edge window. We fixed an issue resulting comments with markdown on github.com not previewing correctly in Microsoft Edge. When viewing the certificate details for a website in Microsoft Edge, the text is now selectable so you can copy it out if needed. We fixed an issue resulting in some sites showing an unexpected small blank tooltip when hovering over text fields in Microsoft Edge in the previous flight. We fixed an issue where Ctrl-key combos on the wide touch keyboard layout wouldn’t work in website text fields when using Microsoft Edge. We fixed an issue resulting in an open PDF in Microsoft Edge crashing in the previous flight if you right-clicked on the PDF to bring up the generic context menu. We fixed a high hitting DWM crash in the previous flight. Known issues  We are currently working to resolve a known issue in Build 17713 that is causing Window Recovery Environment (WinRE) to be inaccessible and causing Recovery/Reset scenarios to be blocked. ‘Reset this PC’ and ‘Advanced Startup’ options under Settings -> Update & Security -> Recovery are affected and not working as designed. As recovery is critical we anticipate resolving this issue in the next build release. We’re progressing in our work on adding dark theme in File Explorer and the Common File Dialog – you’ll notice improvements in this build, although we still have a few things left to do. You may see some unexpectedly light colors in these surfaces when in dark mode and/or dark on dark text. In certain cases on PCs with multiple monitors, all the windows may appear shifted “up” and the mouse inputting to the wrong location. The workaround is use Ctrl + Alt + Del to bring up the task screen and then hit cancel. Repeat as necessary. When you upgrade to this build you’ll find that the taskbar flyouts (network, volume, etc) no longer have an acrylic background. We’re working on improving settings for HDR videos, games and apps in a new Windows HD Color page under System > Display. Some things temporarily will not work; notably, some users will not be able to enable/disable HDR display support. Applications that use ICC color profiles may encounter errors such as Access Denied. This includes the Color Management control panel, and color profile switching on certain Surface devices. When you use the Ease of Access Make Text bigger setting, you might see text clipping issues, or find that text is not increasing in size everywhere. You may find that when interacting with any “…” menu in a modern app (for example Microsoft Store) clicking the items will just dismiss the menu. While the menu is open, if you move your mouse to the opposite side of the app you should find a place where the menu items will become highlighted and you can interact with the menu. You can also use the keyboard while to menu is open to interact with it. The icon for Delivery Optimization in Settings is broken in this build (you’ll see a box). Known issues for Developers If you install any of the recent builds from the Fast ring and switch to the Slow ring – optional content such as enabling developer mode will fail. You will have to remain in the Fast ring to add/install/enable optional content. This is because optional content will only install on builds approved for specific rings. Known issues for Narrator We are aware of an issue causing Narrator speech to fade when waking from sleep mode. We are working on a fix. When the Narrator Quickstart launches, Scan Mode may not reliably be on by default. We recommend going through the Quickstart with Scan Mode on. To verify that Scan Mode is on, press Caps Lock + Space. When using Scan mode you may experience multiple stops for a single control. An example of this is if you have an image that is also a link. This is something we are actively working on. If the Narrator key is set to just Insert and you attempt to send a Narrator command from a braille display then these commands will not function. As long as the Caps Lock key is a part of the Narrator key mapping then braille functionality will work as designed. There is a known issue in automatic dialog reading where the title of the dialog is being spoken more than once. Known Issues for Game bar The framerate counter chart sometimes doesn’t show up correctly over known games. The CPU chart shows an incorrect percentage of usage in the top left corner. Charts in the performance panel don’t update immediately when clicking through tabs. The user’s gamerpic doesn’t display correctly, even after signing in. Read the full article

5 Reasons to Use accessiBe to Make Your Website Accessible – Content Marketing Consulting and Social Media Strategy
https://superspunarticle.com/?p=7840&wpwautoposter=1608023917 5 Reasons to Use accessiBe to Make Your Website Accessible – Content Marketing Consulting and Social Media Strategy https://superspunarticle.com/?p=7840&wpwautoposter=1608023917 Tutorials and tips about Video & Content Marketing. According to the CDC, 26% of American adults are living with some type of challenge including visual impairment, hearing loss, motor skills problems, epilepsy, or cognitive disorders. This has HUGE implications for your website, from both a fairness and effectiveness perspective. Recently, my team and I were introduced to accessiBe, the easiest and best way to make your website available to all. I’m ashamed to tell you that for many years, ConvinceAndConvert.com wasn’t fully compatible with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and wasn’t accessible to everyone. I’m sorry for that, especially since I now know how fast it would have been to rectify. Within 48 hours of signing up with accessiBe, we turned ConvinceAndConvert.com into a fully-compliant site that is available to everyone. Didn’t cost much at all, didn’t slow the site down, and didn’t impact SEO. And our site is bigger than most (several thousand pages). Our site now includes screen-reader optimization for blind users, keyboard navigation optimization for the motor impaired, on-page, live dictionary/glossary for people with cognitive disorders and a lot more. INCREDIBLE. Is your website accessible? Here’s how to find out: 1. Run a fast, no-cost accessibility audit on your website (takes just a moment). 2. Enter your website URL and find out if you are ADA-compliant right now (probably not). Here are 5 reasons why accessiBe is a no-brainer for website accessibility, and you should check it out today. 1. You’ll increase conversions by making your website easier to use. 26% of American adults are living with a disability now. They deserve equal access to your website. From a business perspective, it makes sense. People living with disabilities have money in their pockets, just like anyone else, so the easier it is for them to access your website, the easier it will be to get them to convert and become a customer. 2. Making your website accessible with accessiBe will help you win lawsuits. It will help prevent lawsuits too, because suing a company with an accessible website about ADA compliance isn’t worth the effort. If your website is not ADA compliant, your company can get sued or receive a demand letter from a law firm specializing in ADA compliance seeking a settlement on behalf of a disabled person. Will it completely prevent lawsuits? No. In the United States, you can sue anyone for anything. But you’ll be MUCH less likely to get sued if your website is compliant. For any customers who are subject to lawsuits, accessiBe will go through a litigation support process with you. They’ll do an audit and prove exactly how your website is compliant. They’ll provide you with a form letter to send back to any law firms that have approached you, as well as your purchase invoice (just so you have it handy), in addition to your statement of accessibility. As of now, accessiBe has never had a customer who has been sued after installing accessiBe exclusively. But, in the US, anything is possible. It’s reassuring to know that accessiBe will support you if that were to happen. 3. Setting up accessiBe is truly painless. We’ve all been through martech implementations that are supposed to be easy but drag out for months. Not the case with accessiBe. Not even close. All you need to do is add one line of JavaScript code to your website. You can send it to your developer and be up and running with accessiBe in less than 48 hours (we were up and running in that amount of time at Convince & Convert). It’s extremely straight forward. I wish all implementations were that simple. You also have the option to customize the branding and colors for your website. That will take a tiny bit more effort (hand that part of to your agency or creative team). 4. accessiBe is the easiest way to make your website accessible In point 3, I talked about how painless the set up is. Phew. The same is true for the actual product. Making your website accessible with accessiBe is truly effortless. accessiBe is the only fully automatic website accessibility solution that is powered by AI. You add 1 line of script to your website, and the accessibility interface instantly appears on your website Using the contextual understanding and image recognition, acessiBe’s AI scans and analyzes websites to learn what elements and functionality they include, and adjusts them to blind users’ screen-readers. And Every 24 hours, the AI scans for new and revised content to fix. INCREDIBLE. Here at Convince & Convert, Kelly Santina, our director of operations, is the accessiBe administrator. Kelly is super busy (probably the busiest person on our team), but it made sense for her to admin accessiBe because it requires 0 effort. Truly. Or she is just that amazing (it’s both, really). 5. You’ll spread positive word of mouth. In my book, Talk Triggers, I discuss how critical it is that EVERYONE has a positive experience with your company. That will ultimately help fuel word of mouth. Now let’s go back to that 26% statistic. If 26% of your audience can’t access your website in an easy and positive way, what will those people say about your company? And let’s face it: making your website accessible the right thing to do. Not only is having an ADA compliant website important from a legal standpoint, but it’s also important from a moral standpoint. Next Steps for Making Your Website Accessible If you haven’t already, find out if you website is ADA & WCAG compliant with accessiBe’s ACE checker–it’s easy and free. Watch this fast and fun video demonstration of accessiBe, The Easiest Way to Make Your Website Accessible to All with accessiBe now. Sign up for a free trial of accessiBe. Installing accessiBe is the easiest and most important way for you to improve your website in 2021. Heck, if you contact them now, you’ll have it up and running in 2020. This post “5 Reasons to Use accessiBe to Make Your Website Accessible – Content Marketing Consulting and Social Media Strategy” was 1st provided here.
