Times decided to name taylor swift the person of the year because she has a popular music career (and I say this with as much as respect as possible), not Plestia or Motaz Or Bisan who risk their lives in the midst of b0mbings, d@sth and destruction to show the world what Palestine is going through and to fight for their country, but no, a white lady with a successful music career deserves to be the person of the year. Regarding Taylor Swift being crowned Times Person of the Year:

As a huge swiftie, I can acknowledge that she has had a massive impact on the music industry as well as the economies of more than one country, and in the same breath i can say her silence on a literal genocide happening before our eyes is deafening.

Sure, simply as a pop culture figure, she doesn't have any obligation to choose a political side, but she's not just an artist and this is not about simply choosing a side.

There are no sides here. Children, some of whom aren't even a year old are littered on the streets of Gaza. Hundreds of thousands are dead, nearly a half of them younger than 25.

Taylor has undoubtedly done a lot this year for the music industry but what the reporters, medicos and firefighters have done for Gaza is far more important than anything else at this stage. They are on the frontlines, they are at the most risk of dying anytime, and yet they are still there, still fighting, still giving, and if that doesn't make them the most profoundly selfless people on the planet I don't know what else will.

Taylor has chosen to remain silent on this topic, which means she's neutral, she isn't taking sides, and she will go down in history for remaining silent when she could have done so much more with the massive platform she has. She could've posted a simple video urging people to donate to Gaza's relief fund, to hold the politicians responsible to be accountable, to simply join protests in solidarity with Palestine and she has done nothing and that is a shame she has to bear for the rest of her life.

This goes for all kinds of celebrities who think that remaining neutral will somehow help them maintain their fanbase and not poison people against them, but this is greater than their fragile hold on parasocial relationships with regular people.

I love Taylor's music, it has saved me in a literal sense. But all this shows her 'journey' to become an 'activist' is nothing but a big joke which paints her as the poster girl for white feminism which she uses and discards only when it suits her capitalist interests.
