so as I'm sure y'all remember, I went insane when I found the montage of unreleased footage from the Gladiator DVD. I'm planning to do a full breakdown of all the new footage I discovered in there, but I just couldn't wait to share these because they are SO INTERESTING to me. it's like a four second clip of Maximus in his tent in Germania, featuring him doing something where he's shuffling some nutshells around

is he not just the cutest thing <3

but like??? I am so curious about what he's doing!!! it's probably a strategy technique, like him using the nutshells to represent different sections of his army and planning their attack. if not, maybe it's some kind of Roman version of solitaire?? I mean he's been on the road for years at this point, and how adorable would it be if this is his little nighttime unraveling technique, like a crossword puzzle or smth??

I had seen that the copyright/usage rights were given to a British tv company #but then it had been so long that it became a simple What If until last year when I heard the news #that no they decided to actually do something with the concept/franchise literally 10 years after getting the rights)#my one hope is that they don’t try to put too much focus on David Tennant and instead let the games and strategy breathe #the episodes are already gonna be shorter than the Korean version as is #I don’t want even more gameplay and show identity to be cut in favor of host content yknow #anyways. Idly thinking about changing the summaries and tags on at some of my older fics because my goodness a lot of those are super vague about what they actually contain.

#one has tags for both 'Knifeplay' and 'Attempted Aurder' and i'd have to check but i am pretty sure there's no actual Knifeplay in it #and that what Past Me was actually referring to was the Attempted Murder.#Past Me! no! there is a very important difference between kinky sex and murder!!!! Death is not some weird form of safeword!!!#on the other hand they're Time Lords so the line probably *is* a bit more deathwards than it is for species who die easily.#time lords stabbing someone does not *necessarily* mean they want to them to die for-keeps and actually stay dead right?#okay i've talked myself round on that one. sorry to people looking for normal knifeplay fics but i'm sure there's plenty of those anyway.#ANYWAY i think i'd just change them my current summary strategy of quoting a few explanatory lines from the fic itself.#so it's part plot summary part sample of the contents (freely available by clicking a button on the internetwebs)

kokoro is such an incredible novel and a masterful emotionally-charged depiction of the effects of imperialism and western modernisation in mei ji era japan on the individual psyche. local and western values only half-fused, so those living through the change end up with a mangled belief system without basis that feels wrong but couldn't quite express why. its use of fragmentation and bodily metaphor and oh god the short chapters pull you forward even though with every page you turn you know you're moving further into sensei's despair but you can't stop. so sad but so breathtaking if you don't mind painful books you should read it

#kokoro #natsume soseki #it's about the gap between generations it's about appearance and reality it's about letters it's about living in the maelstrom #i recommend the penguin translation :)#probably look up content warnings!! there's nothing that graphic but it revolves around heavy themes #soseki talked a lot about the internal isolation many people suffered from at the time (a result of rising individualism #but most lacked the right communicative strategies to thrive)
