Jam Day

Mushy May in Lucifer's Hollow: Day 15 - Jam Session

Mountain x Rain (using a bonus prompt today but interpreting it a bit differently hehe)

This fic is set in an alternate universe in a town called Lucifer's Hollow. It's sort of like a Satanic version of a Hallmark town. For Mushy May I'll be using the prompts to post little snippets of life for the humans and ghouls that live there 💙 Thank you to @forlorn-crows for putting Mushy May together!

~ In Lucifer's Hollow Mountain has a little farm and sells flowers at the local farmer's market. Rain meets him there while selling his art. ~

Rain had fallen in love with Mountain’s farm immediately.

As an artist, the sheer amount of inspiration everywhere was overwhelming.  Beyond the flowers, fruit and vegetables Mountain grew and the handful of animals he kept the area around the farm was beautiful.  The thick woods, pond and rolling hills were a painter’s dream.  Rain’s fingers were constantly twitching, wanting to grab a pencil or a brush to start recreating the natural world around him.

Of course Mountain was inspirational in his own right.

After he had moved in, Rain had insisted on helping out around the farm.  He had learned that Mountain did more than throw some feed out for his hens every morning.  Each morning they would check over the fencing around the coup and the coup itself.  Apparently there had been an incident with a hellhound a few years ago and Mountain still felt guilty.  So when it came to his “Golden Girls” as he called them he was extremely protective.

The two goats that Mountain had adopted, Penny and Pepper, were a bit of a sore spot for Rain.  For one, if they were roaming around when he was out sketching or painting the little bastards were known to grab onto his paper or his brushes.  Basically anything they could get their little mouths around they would take off with.  Mountain and Rain had a standing date each week to visit Mary Goore at GraveYarns and replace whatever the two goats had taken.   

The rest of the farm involved the greenhouses that Mountain kept his flowers in, the main way he made money.  He spent many long days and nights getting his bouquets ready each week during market season.  When the market wasn’t going on he still sold them, mainly relying on anyone that lived in Lucifer’s Hollow that needed flowers for whatever reason.  But he also gave them as gifts, something Rain was very familiar with.

Mountain also grew a large selection of fruits and vegetables.  He sporadically sold them at the market with his flowers but he mostly used them in his own cooking, as gifts or gave them away to some of the local food banks in the area.  Rain’s boyfriend was amazing in the kitchen and that led to the water ghoul’s current dilemma: Jam Day.

Jam Day, as Rain had dubbed it, happened once a month in the summer.  As long as there were ripe fruits Mountain would take a day to make homemade jam, filling dozens of small glass jars with the treat.  The house always smelled amazing during and after, the sweet scent of the fruit permeating the air for days.  Even better, Mountain would smell like the jam as well.  Rain had soon found it impossible to resist him when this happened.

“Did you just lick me?”

“No.”  Rain flicked his tongue against Mountain’s neck again while he clung to the earth ghoul.  “Doesn’t sound like something I’d do.”

“If you’re hungry I could make you something.”

“I’m fine, I’m fine.”  Another lick, this time he dragged his tongue across Mountain’s pulse.  “I can wait.  Focus on the jam.”

“It’s kind of hard when my boyfriend is licking me.”  

“Mmm, speaking of hard,”  Rain pulled away enough so he could sneak a hand in between them and cup Mountain’s cock through his pants. “What’s going on here?”

“It’s very interested in the licking.”

Rain grinned and began to massage his cock, pleased to feel it hardening more under his touch.  His mouth was watering just thinking about it and he was torn between dropping to his knees right there or attempting to drag Mountain to their bedroom.  His boyfriend seemed to decide for him, sliding his strong arms around Rain’s waist and hauling him out of the kitchen and down the hallway to their room.  

“Wait, what about the jam?”

“The jam is fine, duckweed.”  Rain giggled when he got dumped onto the bed, rolling over just in time to catch an armful of earth ghoul.  “You are so distracting.”  

“I’m sorry, I can’t help it.”

“Liar.”  

Rain’s retort disappeared into Mountain’s mouth.  Their tongues tangled with each other as one of Rain’s hands grabbed onto a horn, the other tangling in Mountain’s hair.  The earth ghoul’s hands were busy elsewhere, tugging at the drawstring of Rain’s pants and shoving them down far enough so his cock sprang free.  Rain broke away from the kiss with a gasp when a strong hand wrapped around him. 

“M-Mountain, fuck yes.”  

“It should be a crime to interrupt Jam Day.”  A disbelieving laugh bubbled up in Rain’s throat and he tugged at Mountain’s horns so he could kiss him again.  His boyfriend allowed it, grinning as he got closer.  “I’ll have to think of a suitable punishment.”  

“Plea—ah, yes—please.”

He pouted when Mountain pulled away, another ‘please’ on the tip of his tongue but when Mountain scooted down the bed and took Rain’s cock in his mouth the rest of it died in his throat.  

Fuck, he loved Jam Day.

Hi! Uhm I’m new, I love your blog! But I’m just nervous I’ll be judged by others that I like this stuff

Hey I am so so sorry about how long it took me to get to this. I have been thinking this over quite a bit, since this is in fact a very serious thing. (I also have been really busy, which hasn't helped in the speed at which I answer asks)

Firstly, thank you! I am always so happy when people find my art/content as entertaining as I do!

Secondly, in regards to the judgment.

Unfortunately, no matter what you do, someone will judge you. But when you want something enough, when you care about something enough, you will find places and groups where that judgment lessens. I have found my place here, a place where, although no one knows my irl name, they know me by a name I answer to. Although no one knows my face, they do know a truer face of myself than many do in real life. People here know me and often know a more freeing part of me.

I think being here, on Tumbler, has been so freeing and overall rewarding. I know you may be scared of the judgment, but there are ways to lessen it. (I will give tips on how to do this later on)

Although our community has its faults, it is kind at heart and truely is trying to do what they think is best to keep others safe. Although many disagree with the methods, it always comes back to the fact that we want to have a safe place to express ourselves. This, our community, in reality, is a decently safe place.

That being said, I know the fear of harassment is very real. So if you guys want my tips on how to avoid harassment, here are some things I've found:

Dont post political views (outside of DNI lists) on your sfw vore blog. This often can lead to people who dont agree with your view on said matter to seek you out for hate. I have seen this time and time again, I whole heartedly recommend a dedicated blog to that stuff, or even creating a new/separate account for it.

Dont spam tags. This is basic, but often overlooked. Make sure you tag your posts right, or people may block you because you did post something triggering and they saw it.

Dont reblog Willy nilly. This can lead to mishaps, such as accidentally rebloging a post from an nsfw blog. Try to make sure you are rebloging from people you know are safe.

Dont threaten, even jokingly, anyone unless you make it 100% clear it is a joke. This goes for your friend, others, and even people who are mean to you. This is often overlooked, but can easily come to bite you in the ass when your words are used to make you look violent and sporadic.

If people criticize you, even unjustly, try to at least think about where those words may be coming from. I have someone call me a pedo in the past, and although I am very ace, I understand it was probably coming from a place of hurt. Whether it was their hurt or someone they knew, it was probably a subject that was important, and if they see any of the same trends as when they/another was hurt, they will point it out. Dont get angry and aggressive, no matter how much you want to. If you need to, step away.

If troll annons start invading your ask box, either turn off annon or stop answering. Answering annons like that too often only fuels the fire, trolls, not haters, but trolls specifically feed off of your reaction. There is nothing for you to often grasp onto in those moments since the face you are talking to is faceless. So, either scarcely answer trolls, or dont answer them at all.

Dont get involved in community discourse when possible. Unless your hand is forced or it is an unavoidable matter, it is best to stay out of discourse. If you still want to know what others thing/help in a muxg safer way, often, I will message others I trust about their views on the matter (or if they are involved asking if they are doing ok), but rarely anything beyond that. Its difficult, seeing people you know be in the rough situations, but often stepping in when not necessary leads to more problems than it does help.

Please note that these are just some of the things I do that help me. Other people may have their own way of keeping harassment away from their blog, but this is mine.

Y’all I wasn’t joking when I said that Critical was my favorite- I never create aus off of my own ocs, and yet here we are! After reading @naffeclipse’s “Cryptid Sightings” on ao3, and seeing some art on it, I just had to make this menace into even more of a menace by drawing him as a Cryptid. I took some inspiration from other Cryptid drawings, as well as a suggestion from @lost-at-534, but he’s my own design. And Lost didn’t help in my obsession of him 💀 With Siren Crit, I kinda had the same motivation to make him as I did with Cryptid Crit, so not much so say except he pretty :D Oh and, don’t be surprised if I draw him as other creatures too. Like perhaps, a dragon? 👀

Welp- Finally finished posting all of the art I’ve done over these past couple years. The ones that I’ve liked, at least. After this, my posts will be pretty sporadic and inconsistent, it may even take me a month or two till I draw something again. THANK YOUUUU!!! I really appreciate it :D ik the blog isn't active as often as it used to be, but i was only 15 when i started it all those years ago and now i'm an adult and i've got other things on the stove.

i suspect my long hibernations might put me at a notes-disadvantage. the blog has over 1000 followers but people move blogs all the time and yk. after 8 years of this i'm sure a good portion may be dead accounts ^^' oh well! that's the lifestyle!

i still draw miku regularly though! i save em up for little "sprees" instead of sporadic posting cause honestly, posting is the exhausting part. blog management... queues... tagging... all of that is so draining for me Xd but rest easy! more mikus shall be unleashed in the unforeseeable future ^^ gotta get creative with her when you've drawn her so many times!

A different kind of WIP Wednesday

Not a fic this time, but after a wonderful post about making bad art from @unspuncreature and a little encouragement from @lilredghost (thank you 🧡), I wanted to share something else I have in progress: my drawing abilities.

I wouldn't necessarily say I'm good. In fact, sometimes my drawings are downright bad. But considering there have been times in the last year where I haven't even been able to hold a pencil due to health issues, I'm happy to be where I am and just keep improving little by little each time.

I've never shared any of these with anyone before so I'm quite nervous, but there's no time like the present.

So, for starters, I've been drawing sporadically since I was about 11 (about 18 years). I've never seriously made a habit out of it, and I've never attempted any formal instruction or classes. One day, I'll post images from my sketchbooks from over the years, because yes, I have kept all of them for posterity's sake

Last year, 2023, I made a New Years Resolution to draw something every day.

I actually made a decent go of it and drew more than I have in years.

But then I suddenly had some health problems pop up that made my goal impossible. I struggled to hold a pencil and even write a sentence legibly. I won't go into details here, but after a few months and going through occupational therapy, I was able to write and draw again(My other symptoms, however, haven't been resolved).

I did some drawing here and there, but nothing consistent. And it felt like some of the progress I made earlier in the year had vanished. I was utterly demotivated, and could only see the bad in everything I drew.

In December, I finally decided: screw it. If I'm going to draw badly, I'll just draw badly. And its done wonders for my confidence.

But for every drawing I'm proud of, there are far more that all I can do is laugh at because of how terrible they are.

And each time I draw something I'm not happy with, I take it as an excuse to practice more, practice often, and practice everything.

I don't really have a system or a plan in place. I start out with a warmup of stick figures based on soccer, figure skating, or something similar, and then it's whatever I feel like. Sometimes it's figure sketches, sometimes it's working on hair, sometimes it's just whatever the hell I feel like.

But above all, I'm having fun doing it. Even when it doesn't turn out like I want to, even when it's not perfect, I enjoy just putting pencil to paper with zero expectations beyond doing my best and enjoying the process.

Because of my sporadic drawing, I just picked 12 pieces of mine, spread out across this year, that i felt had an impact or shows an one on my overall artistic style, from the first time I've experimented with something, and when i solidified it.

Not only is this is representation of me getting into WOTR, its one of the first times i did smoother and softer shading, something i haven't really done since. Additional, i can easily see the line between the metals i rendered here and Cecio & Celia's more stylized metallic elements. I miss Alaun, he was ahead of his time as a good kc of mine. its a fairly big full piece, and one I'm still proud and fond of today!

Estinian! god i miss ffxiv... Here is the root of my bright idea to use pencil brushes for colored shading, to get a textured gradient, and i used it in the metallic golds. its also my biggest art post on this blog! it is a big & detailed piece, and seemed daunting at the time, but i just put in the time, and was rewarded for trying to make sense of the armor [i used my own dragoon as a model for how thing actually interacted & what was what] Im still stupidly proud of it. it was my second piece of FFXIV fanart, and the beginning of many more!

Given this is about drawings that have impacted me, i think this one is an easy contender for the one that's done so the most. Drawing Mura reminded me how much i loved fashion & clothing, and drawing it! I've always has a tremendous amount of fun with her drawings, and it all started here!! Mura also was the first time i repeatedly used a colour pallet for a character, with her pinks and purples now ingrained into my mind!

Out of all my drawings, Estinian and Mura are tied for how much ive drawn them, which Estinian has an advantage due to my large bank of FFXIV screenshots & my redraws thereof. This was great fun, not only for understanding the armor better, but having fun experimenting in colour pallets! something i can see has carried on into my non-literaly coloured Celia & Cecio drawings!

My first head only drawing in a long time, and somewhere where i experimented with coloring, as well as the introduction of Muras netted and braided hairstyle! in fact, you can see the visible brush strokes as what would eventually be the stylized shading used in my more recent portraits! The shattered stained glass. looks cool as hell. and was my first time majorly experimenting with layer options, something that would become very common for me.

Lighting<33 you can really see here the style i would use on Cecio, just using a pencil brush rather than a roller one. its a piece Im very proud of, and one day i will light everything as consistently as this

the limited colour pallet, the non literal colours, the sketch peeking through, the shading on both clothing and skin, the hair? this is like the payoff to all theses previous drawings. i used a different pencil brush, and goodbye 6b and hellooo procto pencil!!!!

If the previous drawing was the payoff, this is one of the stages of refinement, taking the new stylized skin shading and applying it to a portrait where the face is the focus, and damn!! Cecio<3

A compositional outlier, this piece earned its place for me revising what has to be one of the most drawn compositions of mine - the eye. In many ways its the closing loop of a full circle, the brushstrokes exactly how i would shade with my pencil on paper, the lines and movements coming naturally to me, in an entirely different medium. the main difference is colour, while my pencil drawings were firmly grayscale and i resisted all attempts to get me to use colour, this is practically a sunset, using my knowledge of not just colour but layer filters to create bright and overly saturated variations. full circle, just add colour.

And the final piece! a portrait of Cecio, showing off all i have developed, from the metallics, to the stylized shading, colour pallets, the use of filters for alternate versions, the hair, the face, the new brush!!! its not my last drawing of 2023, but its a fitting end.

if you will permit me to get sappy, 2023 has been hell of a year, but damn if it hasn't been pointing upwards. in 2023 i came to understand i was disabled, and my whole life changed course. My art became not just a hobby or skill of mine, but will be my main source of income once i graduate. my existing friendships have strengthened, and so have my online ones, ive met so many new and awesome people. seeing everyone's tags, comments and reactions to my art has been amazing, and thank you all for that. i have seen so many amazing artists and writers who inspired me to better myself, and also to focus on what makes me unique.

2023 has been a hell of a year, but thanks in no small part to some of the most amazing people i've had the privilege of knowing, it been a damn good one.

its been tough, coming to realize your physically disabled and having to rewrite your life plan was hard. its been overall up, but there have been some spikes down. im aware, that every year i say i cant get happier, and then i do, i break though another barrier, reach another high.

im not saying that this year, because i know next year will be better, and the year after that, as i have the opportunity to steer my own life, it will improve in ways i cant even think of now.

Closing out Patreon on September 1, 2023

Hi all! I posted this on Patreon yesterday, but I thought I should also put it here. I'm going to officially unpublish my Patreon page on Friday, September 1, 2023. I've been manually pausing the billing cycle every month this year, and I don't think I'm any more likely to start posting there again, so it's time to take it down.

Once I unpublish the page next month, there will be no more access to my patron-exclusive patterns or photos. I already unpublished all the tiers thinking that would prevent any new patrons from slipping in only to find out it was closing, but apparently there's an option to still join?? So uh, I don't really know what to do about that and lack the wherewithal to figure out, because I'm still closing down (on patreon, not tumblr) on September 1 regardless.

I'll still be around here on Tumblr, but in a more limited, sporadic way.

Also hopefully to head off any common questions to this:

1) NO, there are not patterns for every single one of the 600+ pokemon I've crocheted. There are around 50 and you can figure out which ones by looking through my #patreon tag here

2) NO, you cannot currently request or buy any specific pattern. What's currently there is all that will be for the time being

3) I don't particularly mind if you join for this past month just to see what all is there or download what you can. But I am not going to walk anyone through it since I'm closing it soon. This was more of a courtesy thing and idk how new patrons appeared anyway.

4) DO NOT distribute my patterns in any capacity.

5) IDK when/if I'll open it again, for lots of Life and Grief and Personal reasons

6) I'm managing, it could be worse, I do still hope to come back to this all someday. I think about it often,I appreciate y'all for supporting me and my art through it all

Going forward

You might have noticed I stopped the lesson summaries. This is for a simple reason: after lesson 11 the Nightbringer storyline began to seriously drop off and I was holding my breath for the plot to start again and get everyone excited for something again.

That didn’t happen. Nightbringer barely makes an appearance again shortly thereafter, and just chills in the background for a good third of the season while the rest of the lessons are mostly filler. There’s not even a finale or climax, really, and the cliffhanger you leave on is so muted that it feels wrong to even call it that. So serious are the implications of Raphael’s ultimatum that they decide to throw a ball after telling him to sod off. And congrats, you’re officially their babysitter now, I guess. It feels very Season 4-ish again.

It’s very clear that the writers just decided to pause all the conflict and tension until the next season. I’d applaud them for taking their time with the pacts if I thought they did the actual legwork in building the relationships between characters, but they really don’t. For a story that was trying to portray itself as more serious and edgier than the original flavor, it becomes very safe, very conservative very quickly after they forgive MC for lying about their identity.

If they’re not going to treat their central conflict seriously, neither am I. Going forward, I’m going to be engaging with Obey Me! as a casual player instead of expending an undue amount of effort on trying to make heads or tails of a story that should probably never be taken seriously -- even by campy otome standards. It’ll be mostly commentary from here out, sorry.

For those of you whole followed the blog for the story updates because you can’t keep up with the lessons, I’m sorry, but do know that the wiki is now doing a better job uploading shorter lesson summaries. I’ll still be open to answering asks and questions, and you can get ahold of me more directly on our discord server.

I’ll still post sporadically, and I *do* look forward to finally getting the Michael reveal I’ve been itching for since OG season 2, but I’m not expecting anything substantial going forward. The Nightbringer is probably exactly who we think it is (Barbatos), but I guess there’s a TINY chance it may be a completely different character if they’re finally willing to spare the art assets for Michael.

I’m not holding my breath, though: they could just have the guy disguise himself as someone else again.

So I blinked, and suddenly we are a month down! Anyone want to explain how that happened?

In February, 28 amazing participants created 50 glorious fills, 47 of which are listed for your delight below (as part of our new-and-improved fill submission form, we're now allowing people to opt out of us linking their work on tumblr, hence there being some not included here).

Of those 47 fills, 41 are fics, three are artworks, and then there's a single gif, a podfic, and an overachieving fic/moodboard combo!

How about ships? Well, we're starting out unusual this year, with more shipless works than Merlin/Arthur ones. Sure, with 19 gen works and 18 merthur ones, it's not a big difference, but it feels noteworthy anyway. In terms of the rarer pairings, we've got a few that show up pretty often on the bingo round ups (Gwen/Morgana and Merlin/Lancelot with two, Merlin/Gwaine, Gwen/Lancelot, Arthur/Gwen and Uther/Ygraine all with one), and then two that are far less common than they deserve to be (Elyan/Gwaine and Elyan/Leon, both with a single fill).

As you know, the February/March bonus badge theme is crossovers and fandom fusions - so far we've had five people claim the badge, and hopefully plenty more will in the next month!

I felt like I was never going to finish this. But I did! I got addicted to the song "Everybody Likes You" by Lemon Demon again and found myself associating the song with Bex. So what do I do when I associate a song with an OC? I draw some art based off of it obviously. Bex just can't catch a break, can she? Anyways, I still don't really know why I associate a song as sporadic and crazy as this one with Bex. Most of my reasons for when I associate songs with OCs is just "probably something they'd listen to/sing". But in this case I genuinely don't know why I think it's a "Bex song". I guess what the art here suggests is that, uh, it's relating to her trying to calm down when she is struggling to stay calm.... yeah. I've also been on a bit of an MLP high at the moment and I'm pretty sure stuff like Pinkie Pie in the episode Party of One and Twilight in Lesson Zero also indirectly inspired this. Honestly the more early 2010s and before stuff that I find that inspired TMM the more I realised this show should've just been made in the 2010s full stop HAH. I also think I'm possibly fuelling some unknown TMM creepypasta fire once I post this. Oh my word there’s still an LL fandom on here????!!!! I’m rereading the books after a couple years, and was a bit saddened to find that most of the fandom fell away after the series had ended (bc I actually only read the books for the first time when the entire series had been published for years), but you post regularly and reblog regularly, so yay, it seems that people are still here!!! After years of loving these books and rereading them I’d love to finally join the fandom— any blogs you’d recommend I follow, ppl who are still into LL and active at least every couple months? (I’d say ‘acgive regularly’ if I was a normal-ish person, but I’m rarely online, so I don’t mind people who post sporadically too— in fact I almost prefer that, you get me?). Hey hey, welcome to the fandom!! Yeah we're still here, it kinda gets a bit quiet now and again with all of us being busy, but the fandom is still around and kicking!

Most LL fans as far as I'm aware post about the series on their main blogs that have frequent activity, so if you don't mind following people that post any kind for a while but have something LL related now and again, this would be your option. If you wanna chat them up about the series then I would say @kip-loric @biddybaboop @simpforsix are very active and occasionally share LL art or incorrect quotes or memes!

If you are looking for LL blogs, I would say @5s-missing-eye and @apocalx post on occasion, but they're super passionate about the characters and have tons of interesting aus and headcanons and book thoughts to read through!

Kip currently has a Gem AU with the Garde that you can ask them about if you happen to know about Steven Universe, and both them and apocalx have LL OCs who are Human Garde with some detailed backstories and personalities!

I usually just follow the lorien legacies tag and find stuff from there, and once in a blue moon you get a new person come out and post some art or incorrect quotes or fanfic ideas for a while! The tag updates sporadically as well, but sometimes in the year it gets pretty frequent (like now for example since it's break for some of us in school).

Semi Long (but not super serious) Update Post

((OP: Hi! Sorry for the sporadic posting. I know May was kind of light on content -- I think I've mentioned it before, but I have a comic outside of this that I work on and was trying to dedicate myself to it for the entirety of May and it's got a bit to it (I only got a page and a half done lol, but that's still some! So I'll take it.) Plus I've obviously got other life stuff, but that's my main art focus that would eat up my time.

I would've probably had another post today since I was feeling artsy (it's all I did this afternoon tbh), but I kind of ran out of asks again and couldn't think of anymore mini comics besides the one that's going to transition us to the next Night Shift that I haven't scripted out. (It's so annoying having so much motivation but no creativity 😅)

But the good news from that I guess is that, if you were ever worried about if your ask would get buried if you sent it in, don't be! I've answered nearly every single one that's come in since we came back last August (btw: oh my gosh it's nearly been a year since we've been back that's wild), so I will definitely get to it, like, immediately lol. BUT! On another totally different topic -- I wanna talk about accessibility stuff! This pops up in my mind every once in a while and I wanted to posit it here:

Obviously this blog operates with a lot of images containing text and I know a lot of people find it helpful to have image descriptions as part of their experience here on Tumblr. I think the way I would do it is probably going back through and updating all the alt image description things where I can, but I know some posts are so old (since I started this blog in 2017) that that might not be possible. With how there's often continuing text dialogue under those images, do you think that written out image descriptions would interrupt that? And if so, should I post the image descriptions under the text dialogue?

This might be something I have to contemplate for a while, but I think moving forward I'll just start including it in the images because I don't think it'd be too difficult, it's just something I know I'm overlooking.

Likewise, should I make a tab on the blog that has a summary of the "plot" of the blog? That way new followers can catch up without it seeming daunting and old followers can get a refresher if they need to.

Let me know your thoughts and if there's anything else I could do to make it more accessible that I might have not considered! I don’t draw as much as I used to. Some days it drives me insane. Since getting this job there’s been whole MONTHS without drawing even the sloppiest thumbnail or even just a warmup.

But I think it’s been good for me? Yeah, it still drives me insane. I have so many things to draw, all the time, forever, and it never feels like enough TIME FOR ANY OF IT. I am a visual communicator, there are so many THINGS that just don’t work in words! But they’d make sense if I drew them. Just this one idea, I gotta get this idea out of my head and it demands a visual aid. And I gotta decide between that, or this thing I’ve been wanting to draw for two weeks, or this other thing I out off for a month, or this thing, etc. etc.

But

I think it’s been finally, actually helping the burnout I staved off healing from for ages. I’d pull back but still try to make myself draw and it’d only somewhat help, temporarily, but now actually not drawing for long stretches of time, I can feel something healing. I don’t draw often and I don’t draw a lot but each time feels like more and more of a joy. I feel more excited to draw, less tired, less staring at a document like “JUST FUCKING DRAW ALREADY!” and nothing happening.

Maybe it’s been helping me get away from feeling like I owe people, personally and in-general, art. Not just in the sense of commissions but as a content creator, like if I don’t meet these invisible quotas for posting then idk everyone will hate me or stop following me or whatever. “You have to draw content like it’s your job or like it will be your job someday or you’ll never go anywhere.” Or, as has happened, people will ask “Why aren’t you making art anymore??” and I won’t have an answer. Worrying that people will think I’m NEVER DRAWING AGAIN and look on me pityingly, like I’m no longer an Artist or.... something.

And now that I’ve not been drawing and people HAVE asked that but it was a single instance thusfar, and there’s still people following me and enjoying my art and my characters, which is great, but even if there weren’t.... it’s been showing me it’s really not so bad. It’s okay to not draw anything for long stretches of time. Yeah, it kinda sucks, but who cares? I’m liking my drawings more on the rare chances I do get to draw, even if I don’t finish them. I’m enjoying my art more and more. Maybe I only have the spoons for a headshot but it’s spoons at all, and that’s awesome. Instead of being ONLY a headshot, it’s more like “yay, I got a chance to draw a headshot at all!” Art is feeling less of a chore that has to be done every so often because you have to, and more of a joy that I get to indulge in.

So unfortunately, it does mean that art will still probably be few and far between, in terms of here on tumblr and what I post. I’ve also started taking a joy in not posting everything I draw; sometimes it’s just for friends, sometimes it’s just for me. So you guys don’t see everything I do, even when I do draw. But I’m still here. And I’ve been feeling better about my art. Maybe one day I won’t be so tired and I can happily draw everyday for hours like I used to; or maybe it’ll still remain sparse and sporadic.

But that’s okay. Maybe I won’t get any commission deals out of drawing so sporadically, maybe I won’t get huge follower numbers. But that’s okay. I like my art. I like my circle I’ve got here. And I’m learning to not hate myself for staring at an open document and not drawing anything. I’m learning to be okay being tired.
