Unless you know the US General Consulate in EDI does not issue any type of visas - LOL, idiots. Because they are all very intelligent, they also forgot everything about/never bothered to look for the new-ish ESTA system (https://www.handyvisas.com/esta-us-visa/british/), especially designed for Visa Waiver countries' citizens. So I insist: if traveling as a tourist, S does not need a visa to enter the US for up to 90 days - that is correct, but by no means applicable to S's reality. And if he knew he'd need to stay more than 90 days, he would have applied for a visa - mandatory - in London before the Summer of Sassenach tour.

But he is not traveling as a tourist and very probably not under another type of non-immigrant visa, simply because he has businesses there and he is also involved in the OL project with *** (d'oh!).

Let's unpack:

'Afternoon, all...it's Mr. Baggins, back with your Afternoon Stack of Classic Wax! I thought today might be a good day for Part Two of our ongoing series about Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass. Let's grab that Tijuana Taxi and head south!

Let's go back to the beginning, all the way back to 1962! Here is the very first Tijuana Brass record. It's Alpert solo, with his trumpet part overdubbed and a touch out of sync. It's also the very first record issued on A & M Records, which Alpert formed with business partner Jerry Moss; they also formed their own publishing company "Almo Music, Inc." A & M went on to be the largest independent record label in the world. The distinctive "gold" version of the label (like the one above) came later that next year. Here is The Lonely Bull.

With all the airplay on TV and commercials, there was no shortage of demand for new TJB music. For the next seven years, they would have hit after hit after hit, until Alpert disbanded them in 1969. Let's hear another big hit from '66, his version of "What Now My Love?"

The drummer, Nick Ceroli, was a well-respected jazz drummer, boisterous enough to hold his own in Stan Kenton's big band, a guy who must have cut his teeth playing for strippers! Here is the TJB's stripper-ready version of the old '50s hit "Love Potion #9".

In '68, Herb sang the Bacharach/David tune "This Guy's In Love With You", which became a number one smash. The album it was taken from, "The Beat of The Brass", included this great tune, which was co-written by Alpert and TJB guitarist John Pisano. Pisano, btw, was an astoundingly talented jazz guitarist. Here is "Slick".

Now this next one is an absolute gem. It came from the album "Herb Alpert's Ninth", and was one of the biggest singles from that album. It's a pop-musical tour-de-force of the main themes from Bizet's Carmen. Each little sub-section is self-reflexively done in the style of one of the TJB's EARLIER hits...you'll recognize the "What Now My Love" section, etc. It's really a piece of pop musical genius. I've played you Vladimir Horowitz' "Carmen Variations", which he played at the end of his Television Concert. Alpert must have seen it and composed this arrangement as a response. Here is the TJB's "Carmen"!

Here's a tune composed by TJB guitarist John Pisano for Peggy Lee. Pisano was her guitarist as well! Her vocal version became a hit, as did the TJB's version, in '66. Here's "So What's New?"

As I've said before, I learned how to make an arrangement by listening to these guys obsessively as a kid growing up. They fascinated me with how they layered and constructed the arrangement and built the sound. And the playfulness and freedom with which they re-arranged old hits was just a kick, like this one. Taken from the "Sounds like..." album in '67, here is their total re-work of Gene Pitney's "Town Without Pity". And that's drummer Nick Ceroli doing the honors on the whoops and shouts throughout.

The same playfulness is evident in their version of The Supremes' "The Happening", from the same album in '67.

And I thought I'd wrap up this Afternoon Stack of Classic Wax with the 45 version of their re-work of "Zorba The Greek", from late '65. It's actually quite different from the LP version that's on the "Going Places" album. Enjoy!

Nach einem Probetraining im neuen Fitnessstudio, zu dem am Tag zuvor eine Einladung im Briefkasten der drei ??? steckte, findet Peter vor seinem geparkten Fahrrad einen Walkman. Er nimmt ihn mit und hört ihn mit Justus und Bob an. Das Lied "In the Middle of the Night" ist darauf, das Lieblingslied von Skinny Norris. Das Lied wird unterbrochen und man hört ein Mädchen schreien. Es klingt, als würde sie entführt werden.

Die drei ??? fragen im Fitnessstudio nach, ob der Walkman bekannt ist. Trainer Michael Rompa sagt, er gehöre Bianca und gibt den drei ihre Handynummer. Michael sagt, er habe gemeinsam mit Bianca das ganze Lied "In the Middle of the Night" angehört. Danach habe sie zurückgespult, um sich den Song nochmals anzuhören.

Die drei ??? rufen unter der Nummer an. Juan Gonzales meldet sich mit starkem spanischen Akzent, angeblich aus Tijuana, kurz hinter der mexikanischen Grenze. Er habe das Handy auf der Straße gefunden. Er gibt seinen Standort durch und legt abrupt auf.

Die drei fahren nach Tijuana. Juan Gonzales ruft sie zurück. Er lehnt ein Treffen ab, erzählt aber, dass er Bianca dabei beobachtet habe, wie ihr Handy fallengelassen hat. Danach sei sie mit einem Mann in ein Taxi eingestiegen. Gonzales habe die Adresse Cañon del Padre, 1271 verstanden.

Im Cañon del Padre, 1271 angelangt, untersuchen die drei ??? das Haus, finden aber nichts Verdächtiges. Als sie wieder losfahren wollen, springt Peters Auto nicht mehr an. Ihre Handys funktionieren nicht, da sie sich in einem Funkloch befinden. Sie beschließen, im Haus zu übernachten.

In der Nacht hört Peter eine flüsternde Stimme, die von einer Puppe kommt. Die Puppe und noch zwei weitere wurde scheinbar von Bianca besprochen mit folgender verschlüsselter Nachricht: "Die Lage hat sich plötzlich geändert, etwas ist schiefgelaufen! Bitte folgt mir, Santa Monica Motel Zimmer 10, Bianca"

Peters Auto funktioniert wieder. Die drei ??? machen sich auf den Weg nach Santa Monica und nehmen die Puppen als Beweismittel für eine Entführung mit. Ein blauer Van verfolgt sie und Justus erkennt den Fahrer als Michael Rompa. Er bittet Bob, die Batterien aus den Puppen zu nehmen. Die drei halten an einer Tankstelle, Justus steigt aus und kommt nach einer Weile mit Verpflegung und neuen Batterien wieder. Sie fahren weiter, über die Grenze.

Da die Akkus ihrer Handys leer sind, halten sie auf einem Parkplatz, um dort ein Münztelefon zu benutzen. Dort werden sie von zwei maskierten Männern aus dem blauen Van bedroht. Die drei ??? händigen die Puppen aus.

Justus klärt auf: Es gab nie eine Entführung. Michael Rompa hat mit einem Komplizen alles eingefädelt: Die Einladung zum Probetraining, der Walkman vor Peters Fahrrad, seine Stimme verstellt und als Juan Gozales die Adresse mitgeteilt, die Puppen mit der Botschaft besprochen. Das Ziel: Drogen über die Grenze zu schmuggeln. In den Batterien der Puppen sind Drogen versteckt. Justus hat auf der Tankstelle sie Batterien herausgenommen und auf der Herrentoilette versteckt.

Mithilfe eines Peilsenders, den Justus unbemerkt am blauen Van angebracht hat, folgen die drei ??? dem blauen Van bis zum Haus von Skinny Norris, der Michael Rompas Komplize ist. Dort belauschen sie, wie Skinny, Michael und seine Freundin Afton (die die Puppen besprochen hat) von zwei Drogendealern gefoltert werden, damit sie den Ort der Drogen preisgeben. Die drei gehen dazwischen und entlocken den Dealern ein Geständnis, das Justus mithilfe einer der Puppen aufzeichnet. Als wenig später Inspektor Cotta erscheint, spielt Justus die Aufzeichnung ab.
