“You smell like home,” I tell him after a moment.
“You are home,” he says simply. “The bed, the flat…”
He pauses, the way he always does when he’s looking for enough words for something big.
“It was never home until you were there, Tiffy.”
Tiffy x Leon

"Life is often simple, but you don’t notice how simple it was until it gets incredibly complicated, like how you never feel grateful for being well until you’re ill, or how you never appreciate your tights drawer until you rip a pair and have no spares.

This was incredible! I knew that people had been raving about it, so I thought there was going to be a good chance that I was going to love it, and I did! Before I get to my review though, I’m going to throw out there that The Flatshare deals with some pretty heavy stuff around gaslighting and emotional abuse, in addition to a plotline around wrongful imprisonment, so if any of that is likely to hit home, I’d consider looking up a more detailed review, or if you reach out to me I’d be happy to tell you more about them.
Alright, now - why I loved this book: Any romance where the main characters don't actually meet for half the book definitely cares about the individual lives and characterization of its main characters, and I think that the sections where we got to know them outside of their eventual relationship made the relationship better because it was clear that they really did complement each other. Additionally, the emotional journeys for both of the leads were so satisfying - I had so many feelings about Tiffy learning to recognize her ex's abuse, and for Leon trying to get his brother out of jail. Honestly, I thought that this had one of the best actual plots of the romances I've read this year - it had so many side plots and yet they all meshed together so well around the romance. I also found the romance really compelling, adorable, and heartwarming, and I was so happy that they finally got together. And on top of everything, the book was funny, too! Overall, I found this absolutely excellent, and I'll be recommending it to basically everyone I know who reads romance, and probably some people who don't.
My Rating: 5/5

Happy Sunday! Quick post today -- we are going to meet puppies at a different shelter, never going to that other one again. Keep your fingers crossed we find the right baby for us! 🤞🏻💜 The Flatshare is the second Beth O'Leary book I have enjoyed on audio. I also really liked The Switch, but I think I may have liked this one even more. Synopsis: "Tiffy and Leon share a flat Tiffy and Leon share a bed Tiffy and Leon have never met… Tiffy Moore needs a cheap flat, and fast. Leon Twomey works nights and needs cash. Their friends think they’re crazy, but it’s the perfect solution: Leon occupies the one-bed flat while Tiffy’s at work in the day, and she has the run of the place the rest of the time. But with obsessive ex-boyfriends, demanding clients at work, wrongly imprisoned brothers and, of course, the fact that they still haven’t met yet, they’re about to discover that if you want the perfect home you need to throw the rulebook out the window…" TW: abusive/obsessive/stalking ex-boyfriend The book took on a few serious topics like abusive relationships and a family member in prison. It had a great cast of characters and I loved that much of the book happens in note form between Leon and Tiffy. I love epistolary novels and between notes, texts, and emails this book has a really fun blend of that with a more traditional novel set up. The book will give you all the feels: anger, sadness, humor, and love. I recommend this to all lovers of rom coms who can handle a seriously horrible ex being part of the story. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ https://www.instagram.com/p/CUSvXe-rSFn/?utm_medium=tumblr
