Downwinder Preston Jay Truman, Salt Lake City, Utah, 1987. Living downwind of the Nevada Test Site in the spartan farming town of Enterprise, Utah, Truman witnessed firsthand the fallout clouds which burned the tops of the trees as they passed through. He developed Waldenstrom’s lymphoma at 16, and thyroid disease from the radioactive iodine in the milk supply, as did his mother, Della. “I remember really well right after kindergarten started we had a general, ribbons all over his chest, talking talking to the school kids about testing and how it was necessary, how the Russians would be here in the morning, how it was perfectly safe. They had a “skywatch” program, volunteers looking for Russian spy planes. Women were given a roll of dimes to call if they saw any. He tried to explain a principle called ‘cloudshine to the kids, how they shouldn’t go outside when the cloud was overhead when the stuff was radiating onto the ground. I think people underestimate the impact this had, when you were constantly informed that those tests were all that was standing between you and the Russians, but you knew inside. How do you admit your government is lying to you and putting you on the receiving end of discretionary nuclear genocide? I remember in school they showed us a film, ‘A is for Atom, B is for Bomb.’ We’ve all in our own minds added ‘C is for Cancer, D is for Death.’ The realization comes that you don’t really have a future.” © Carole Gallagher

March 5, 2019
It has been an interesting first few months of 2019. From the freak out about closely scheduled doctor’s appointments to feeling like maybe I was totally fine and cured of anxiety, I am currently somewhere in the middle.
I have started to forget some things associated with treatment and fail at piecing certain things together. For example, my libido has been non-existent this month but I did not realize that it was linked to the date of the Lupron shot, S did. And we traveled with a friend and she had not seen me since August and she pointed out that my face shape has changed - most likely due to finally being rid of the steroids given to me during chemo. I had forgotten about the steroids. I am so thoroughly in this mess that I can’t always find the distance needed to identify patterns and I can’t keep track of everything. This month my fatigue and hot flashes have been more frequent and it makes my memory feel weak.
This brings me to my next point. Being so in this.
Two friends have recently gotten bad news: one was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and the other with something called MGUS - a protein in the blood that could be the precursor to a myeloma. When I started to go through treatment, I knew that if I ever got news that a close friend of family member were to be diagnosed with cancer that I would be devastated. But when these two friends told me about their conditions, about two months apart, I was fine. Concerned yes but not devastated. I was so fine that I was worried about why I was fine. Likewise, when the protein for friend #2 turned out to be nothing more than a protein, I also did not feel the relief I thought I would. When I say “feel”, I mean a visceral, physical reaction. I thought of them plenty and researched their cases online (bad habit, I know) but I was not “riddled with grief” or [insert any other analogy to the physical manifestation of a feelings, good or bad]. Of course, on a mental plane I 100% was relieved (I do not wish this on anyone).
Another friend has been dealing with her mother’s terminal cancer. She has been dealing with life decisions that can have life long ramifications - whether to change jobs and lose her visa status in the in order to be able to care for ailing mother back home. While telling me about her decision making process, she prefaced the most brutal sentence with “You know I am not a bad person, right?” and then continued with “If I move home it has to be for me, not for my mom. Because my mom, for all intents and purposes is dead.” I was aghast. I understand the logic but it is one of the most soulless things I have ever heard. I know she is going through her own version of hell. My brain knew that phrase had the weight of a thousand bricks but I couldn’t feel it. Again, to be clear, I do not mean to say that I do not care - of course I care. I have barely spoken to this person since she said this to me. I remember this phrase constantly and it is possible that she has long forgotten it. But if my brain knows this to be a horrific thought process (more so when you take into consideration that it was said about a cancer patient to another cancer patient - seriously, read the room), why wasn’t my body responding? Why was I not feeling anything?
Earlier in the day, before receiving news from friend #2, I came across an instagram account of cancer memes - I cautiously eyed the memes before deciding that it was safe to take a deep plunge and continue scrolling. I laughed so hard I decided it was safe enough to follow the page and have cancer memes pop up in my feed without a trigger warning. I shared a bunch of them on my own Instagram Stories and sent some to S, who sheepishly admitted he felt uneasy laughing with me and in some instances, did not understand why it was funny. I, instead, loved the immediate shorthand of having layered emotions reduced to a succinct meme. These memes made me happy. People started to reach out to thank me for them (non-cancer people.) These memes even gave me a new name for the impertinent people who dare opine on cancer via weird “curative” diets and religious platitudes: cancer muggles.
So, of course I can feel things - just ask me to talk about politics and you will see me get riled up- but why did my friends’ health issues not trigger any physical feelings? I asked my onco shrink today and he had this bit of information:
In London, around WWII, the country decided to build bomb shelters but were hesitant because they thought that people would hole up in them. Instead, they found that Londoners would use them as needed but that their days remained pretty normal. People went about their day. Instead, in a nearby town of Plymouth, the townspeople were freaking out. It was not until a downed German plane was brought in for all to see that they reported feeling calmer about the conflict. Same happened in NYC after 9/11: it was believed that Manhattanites would report a higher level of anxiety and PTSD but records do not indicate that it was the case. It seems that the morale of these anecdotes is that it is human to cope under extreme duress when in the thick of it (whatever it may be) but that stress can be exacerbated by feeling that one is on the periphery of things.
Another quick analogy my onco shrink provided was that since I am in the thick of it (I think “eye of the storm” also works here) - I did not feel the need to use pink ribbons or any other thing that announced my proximity to cancer, whereas my parents proudly bore the pink ribbon during my treatment. That pink ribbon was their downed German plane.  (Of course cancer branded apparel or accessories are a personal choice - I have seen a lot of cancer patients cover themselves head to toe in “cancer sucks”, “I got this”, etc sort of affirmation gear.
This is really interesting to me and yet another instance that highlights how my brain processes things differently now.

2 more days… til I get this damn “green ribbon” off! Lol! *UPDATE* It’s been a rough recovery from surgery. The past week and a half has been a rollercoaster of pain, emotions, pain and emotions. 🎢 Lol! Good news is they took out the thyroid and lymph nodes to be safe. Bad news is, the lymph nodes also came back positive for cancer. So treatment has changed… I went from just getting a few radiation zaps⚡️to now being treated with Radioactive ☢️ iodine. Fun. 🫠😑 So that will come soon but for now… we pray, send energy, hope and wonder. Can’t say I’m not scared… but… I’m okay. I’m always okay. So enjoy this dorky pic of my crazy face and bandage and just know, I love y’all! 🥰😍😘🖤🤟🏼 -Lady J. #FuckCancer #MyJourney #LadyJStillKillinIt #HereWeGo https://www.instagram.com/p/CcR55OHr8fc/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Tinctures and Tonics for Health
Tumblr media
A tincture is a traditional herb infusion made with an alcohol base. A tonic usually uses either vegetable glycerin or apple cider vinegar as the base. The alcohol used in tinctures must be at least 100 proof, or 50%, alcohol, which is why most vodkas and gins are used. Tinctures can also be made with vegetable glycerin or apple cider vinegar for those with alcohol issues, although less potent and yet still effective.
Crafting Tinctures and Tonics
Tools needed:
1.     Two mason jars
2.    Cheesecloth
3.    The herbs/plants/spices
4.    Measuring cups
5.    An herb grinder
6.    Alcohol/vegetable glycerine/apple cider vinegar
7.    Tool to measure the dosage such as droppers for infant medication
Steps for recipe creation:
When preparing a tincture, the rule of thumb is you want a 1:4 ratio of herb to alcohol. If your herbs start to float, your ratio is good. Allow them to settle, and add a little more alcohol until the mixture is fully saturated.
Prepare the ingredients Fill the mason jar with the herbs/plants/spices Add the alcohol or alcohol substitute  (If using apple cider vinegar as your base, you will need to take the additional step of laying wax paper on top of the jar lid) Keep in a cool, dark place for a month (some may require refrigeration, and that will be noted) Shake twice daily After 1 month, strain the herbal matter from the liquid into the second jar using a cheesecloth (squeeze the cheesecloth to get out as much of the liquid as you can) After straining, fill the remainder of the jar with distilled water–this dilutes the alcohol, allowing you to ingest it directly Ready for use

Used for a calm night’s sleep and for coughs and sniffles.
If symptoms persist, please see a doctor, especially in children to rule out any more serious illness. Place Chamomile tea in hot water for five minutes and strain (if using a bag steep for five minutes) Add the honey and stir until dissolved. Top up with cold water and serve with the words: “This is a magic throat potion. It will make you/me feel better and help you to sleep. It is magic, yes it is. Take a sip and see.”
FOR BACKACHE
2 drops of lavender oil A drop of rosemary or clary sage oil A drop of ginger oil
Backaches plague use all at one stage or another some people suffer more than others. Continuous backaches should be seen by a medical profession. Don’t let them palm you off with painkiller, although sometimes this is what you may need for short-term problems. A lot of back pain is cause from bad posture, both in the way we sit or stand and/or even stress. Even if you have been diagnosed with specific problems, from rheumatism to a misalignment of the spine, the stress and pain caused by condition will aggravate the problem. Try this potion to ease your pains and woes away. There are a few ways you can use this potion. Pour it in a bath and soak yourself. Heat it on a burner. Mix with 10ml of sweet almond or olive oil and get a friend to gently massage it into the affected area. Whichever method you choose, accompany this with the breathing exercise found here at
To cure a headache:
To cure a headache: Lavender is well known for its relaxing properties, which may explain why it can help cure tension headaches. A sachet of dried lavender or a compress dipped in lavender oil, I metre of green ribbon, basil leaf.
Small the lavender and breathe its fragrance right into your system to cleanse and relax you or place the compress on your head for a few minutes. Take the ribbon and wind it around your index finger of your left hand. Place it to your ‘third eye’ which is between your brows and gently rub back and forth over it. Now unwind the ribbon and wrap it around your forehead like a headband, securing the basil leaf under the ribbon and over your third eye. Relax for ten minutes completely and imagine the poisons draining out of your forehead into the ribbon. When you feel a lightening of the ache, remove the ribbon, cut it in half and discard it. This should lessen even a violent headache and drive off a persistent one.
COMMON COLD REMEDY
There must be as many recipes to cure a common cold as the common cold itself. I will give other recipes of curing the common cold but this is one that I have found to be effective…if it doesn’t work on a cold I’ll try another.
450 grams fresh onions, ginger root, elder flowers (otherwise dried elderflower or tea) and honey if desired. If you have a cough as well 2 teaspoons dry mustard powder and eucalyptus essential oil. To have the best result with this remedy you should begin as soon as you feel the first cold symptoms starting.
Take one onion and cut it in quarters, then place a quarter in each corner of your house to begin the battle against the spread of the infection. With the remaining onions make French onion soup (don’t use packet mix it will not work), you will have this through the course of the next few days. While your soup is cooking make the herbal tonic. Grate some ginger root and put it with some crushed garlic in a mug; add the elderflowers (or elder tea) and soak for ten minutes before drinking. Add honey if necessary. Meanwhile make a hot foot bath by adding the dry mustard powder to hot water in a basin, soak your feet while sipping on the herbal tonic (tea). Sit somewhere comfortable and relax; experience the warmth spreading from your feet, slowly spreading up through your whole body, relaxing it, emitting tension and driving of the ill feelings. Over a ten minute period try to feel your whole body glowing with warmth and overcoming the infection. Drink your tonic and soak your feet this way two or three times a day and follow this with  a light meal of the onion soup. Wage this war for up to three days and you should be the victor. During this period burn the oils in the house, they will neutralize the sickness and you will absorb their healing essences.

Radiation therapy, the best way to cure cancer.
The world turns upside down of every person from richer to poor after being diagnosed with cancer. Whether it’s any type of cancer, it threatens the person to a large extends. But here some relief is given by when the treatment takes place. Cancer is a treatable disease in its early stages but when it reaches to 4th and 5th stages, it becomes difficult to get a cure.
Radiation Therapy:
Radiation therapy is commonly used to treat cancer worldwide; it uses beams of intense energy to kill cancer cells. Mostly X-rays are used, but sometimes protons or other types of energy can also be used.
Under this radiation therapy, mostly external bean radiation therapy called ionizing radiation is done, during this process, the high energy beans come from a machine outside of your body that targets the beans at a precise point on the body. In brachytherapy, another type of radiation therapy, the radiation is placed inside the body.
This therapy damages the cells by genetic material that controls the growth of cell and their division. While doing these both healthy and cancerous cells are killed, the goal is to damage the healthy cells to the least. Healthy cells can repair much damage caused by radiation.
Radiation therapy is not only the treatment of cancer but less commonly used for treating thyroid disease.
Sometimes doctors recommend doing only radiation therapy, but in most cases, it is asked to do along with the chemotherapy, surgery, or both.
After radiation therapy, medicines are recommended in large numbers, which is too expensive. Thus order them at discounts of 23% from the best online medicine supplier in India, 3Meds.
Types:
The types are made on the following factors:
•        Type of cancer.
•        Size of the tumor.
•       Location of the tumor in the body.
•        How close the tumor is from normal tissues that are sensitive to radiation.
•       general health and medical history of the person.
•        Age and medical conditions.
There are 2 types of radiation therapy:
External Bean Therapy:
External beam radiation therapy comes from a machine that targets radiation at cancer. The machine is large and noisy. It does not touch you, but can move around, sending radiation to a part of the body from many different directions.
External beam radiation therapy is a local treatment, which means it targets a specific part of the body. For example, if you have cancer in the lung, you will have radiation only to your chest, not to your whole body.
Tumblr media
 Internal Bean Therapy:
Under this, a source of radiation is put inside the body in solid or liquid form. A solid source called brachytherapy. Under this type of treatment, seeds, ribbons, or capsules that contain a radiation source are placed in the body, in or near to the tumor. It’s a local treatment and specific to the affected part.
The radiation source in the body is given off radiation for a while with brachytherapy.
Internal radiation therapy with a liquid source is as called systemic therapy. Systemic means that the treatment travels in the blood to tissues throughout your body, seeking out and killing cancer cells. Receive systemic radiation therapy by swallowing, through a vein via an IV line, or through an injection. With systemic radiation, the body fluids, such as urine, sweat, and saliva, will give off radiation for a while.
Why Radiation Therapy?
Radiation therapy is basically used to treat cancer and ease its symptoms. Either it reduces the growth or cures the type of cancer.
When treatments are used to ease symptoms, they are known as palliative treatments. External beam radiation may shrink tumors to treat pain and other problems caused by the tumor, such as trouble breathing or loss of bowel and bladder control. Pain from cancer that has spread to the bone can be treated with systemic radiation therapy drugs called radiopharmaceuticals.
Side effects of Radiation Therapy:
While doing radiation therapy, along with the cancer cells, they even the healthy cells of the body which results in side effects.
Side effects depend on:
•        The area receiving treatment
•        The person’s overall health
•        The type and doses of radiation
Short term side effects:
This is the one which differs with the type of cancer, but some common effects are:
•       Fatigue
•        Hair loss
•       Diarrhea
•        Skin changes
•       Nausea and vomiting
Long term side effects:
•        Heart or lung problems, if radiation affects the chest
•       Thyroid problems, leading to hormonal changes, if radiation affects the neck area
•       Lymphedema, which involves lymph fluid building up and causing pain
•       Hormonal changes, including a possibility of early menopause, from radiation in the pelvic area
Bottom line:
Many people feel anxiety and concern about radiation therapy, but it’s the best treatment to cure cancer. Along with radiation therapy, take all the prescribed medicines for better results. Thus order your medicines from 3Meds, the best cancer medicine supplier in India.
