NEW SPIRITFARER CONTENT ON THE WAY, INCLUDING FOUR NEW SPIRITS AND MORE STELLA BACKSTORY

I’m bringing the news to all y’all on Tumblr as soon as I heard it!!!

ThunderLotus has announced that throughout the year there will be several content updates to Spiritfarer including more spirits, islands, gameplay improvements and story content, all of which will be free updates!!!

Each season will bring a new section of updates, as outlined above. Each update will also include a new spirit along with it! A majority of the planned updates were voted on in a Discord poll in December!

My spiritfarer OC! Her spirit flower is the gorse flower, which symbolizes intelligence, dilligence, and independence. She was a scientist in life, and the victim of a freak accident that left her in end-of-life hospice with Stella for her remaining few months. Barely in her 40s, she spent the remainder of her life fighting to keep her mind sharp and as active as possible. Stella learns the importance of never giving up from her ursine friend - Sophia. I had a lot of fun with her! Since she’s techincally my spiritsona, I wanted her to have my favorite color, teal - it was a hard mix trying to get her to not look too much like Atul, haha!

Spiritfarer - fixing ableist content

While Spiritfarer is 100% one of the best games I’ve ever played, there’s something that did irk me a little during my playthroughs : Gustav’s story. He was a museum curator who ended up severly disabled. But at a few points, Gustav talks about his wheelchair and his disability in...less than ideal ways.

Well, apparently a bunch of people brought the issue with Thunderlotus. In September 2020, they released an apology regarding the issue, promising to correct it in future updates.

They eventually released their plans for updates in 2021 : one in the spring, one in summer, and one in fall. And when the first one, the Lily update, came out, the announcement came with this paragraph :

I’ve yet to see what the modifications will be, but I’m very happy to see this. Thunder Lotus made a mistake, and when it was pointed out to them, started working on it by getting more educated about the topic. This is the ideal scenario (besides not making the mistake in the first place) when it comes to this.

Anyways, can’t wait for the Beverly update!

i'm really enjoying Spiritfarer so far.. i've cried a few times but that's okay- it's been very heart warming and comforting to me. ✨💕 @ThunderLotus thank you for making such a beautiful game.

So me and my sister are now firmly obsessed with this game XD And we decided to make oc's!  So I drew them for us, trying to keep the game style (which was weird for me since I love shading) Mine is the peacock Princeton, my sister made the wolf Ayana :)  If you love platform games, gentle games and deeply moving characters I can NOT recommend Spiritfarer enough, it's brought me to real tears a fair number of times!! SpiritFarer belongs to Thunderlotus, these characters are originals

Kekistanis are not a single-cell organism ofc and so u get the bozo ones like the guy who tried to nazi-fy the thunderlotus server and failed lol, and the incredibly observant, organised and ruthless ones who infiltrate our communities and study us so diligently that they not only know all our pressure points, but also know how to imitate us flawlessly. something i know they try is to see what u are the most disillusioned with re: ur own communities, esp the ones u most expected to find connection and support in. then they mold their behavior accordingly, to give u a reprieve from that and make u think: yea u know what, for all the things ppl say abt these guys, at least they’re not [insert thing that hurt u the most abt ur community]. it sounds so simple and obvious that i look like a dumbo for pointing it out. but hey. it works like u wouldnt believe. so either ppl do not know better, or they just dont care abt anyone except themselves.

Someone else said this much better, but u do not even have to consistent w ur messages. u just have to strike the iron while its hot, and the impressions formed will last long enough to do the damage. if u play the idpol game well enough, ppl will excuse ur inconsistencies anyway, especially if it makes them feel like a good person, or if u depict ur inconsistencies as resonant to theirs and thereby make defending u abt defending themselves as well.
