If Rick changed Medusa for the Roman Myth in the TV show to be more 'sensitive', then he better do the same with calling out Calypso and what SHE did to Odysseus as well.

I still like PJO even though some of the changes Riordan did aren't great and make me sad but I feel like I can still enjoy it to a degree. But I am genuinely stumped and a bit disturbed by how he decided to make Calypso a sweet, sad, lonely "good person". Sure, she's sad and lonely but she is NOT sweet. To me, she reads off as cruel to Leo but even then, why tf does he write her as a good person or someone we should be rooting for?

Her only big myth is basically in the Odyssey where she imprisons and rapes Odysseus for 7 years. In mythology, others do that too but these immortals ALSO have other myths that define them. This one myth is practically her ONLY ONE!

It kind of freaks me out that Percy was near this woman as she's over a thousand years old and he's 14 at this point. Even if it WAS for a short amount of time. And pairing her with Leo? These kids should not be anywhere NEAR her!

Seven Sentence...Sunday?

Today is Saturday (here, for now - give it an hour or so) but I doubt I'll remember tomorrow. Tagged by @thewildballyntynesgrow and with a rough 7-ish (heavy on the ish) sentences:

you're fine i didn't have art to post so i didn't log in for a few days. uhhhhhh SwatchThoughts(tm):

they're the head butler ofc, but they're also queen's right-hand-man (gender neutral), her #1 bestie. they know everything about her, even about lancer before the events of ch2. they will literally do anything she asks and anything that will entertain her. it's tiring and they do complain sometimes but they enjoy their work, they know what a kind person she really is and that she's generally a good ruler, so they like to make her happy :)

weirdly competitive. nobody beats them in queen's monthly fruit-smashing competition and if you somehow do, they're a good sport but You Will Not Win Next Month. You Won't.

workaholic. oh god they wear so many hats in the mansion and they're so tired all the time, it's a miracle they get everything done

the color cafe is a regular butler cafe up front and a host club in the back. a handful of the birds, including swatch, can be paid (at quite high rates, swatch especially) to join you for drinks or sweets, flirt with you, cuddle - p much have a sweet and lightly romantic time. you would not believe how much money spamton dumped into the host club back in the day. their undisputed #1 customer even 20 years later

i generally view them as very asexual (demi specifically. + nonbinary) but they still love their host work! it's fun, they like making people happy and playing at being a romantic. and the sweets. they like the sweets just as much 🍰

they are the tallest swatchling, at 9 feet tall. Beast. good for carrying queen on their broad shoulders though!

as an art program they not only create things for lightners but also for queen ! they design a lot of things for her with her input, and with as quickly as they can draw things directly into the dark world they're always working on things for her, while dressing up their cafe for themed events in-between.

Were there any fairytales you liked as a kid? What were they about? Can you retell it from memory?

hmm theres a couple. theres one about why ninetales outside of alola are fire type while the ones in alola are ice types and that its because of a houndour i liked as a kid?? theres also one about how arcanine lost their divinity and the creation of houndooms that plays into a lot of other fairytales that involve houndoom. i think my favourite as a kid was the diamond princess though. loved that story.

basically the diamond princess is about this diancie whos princess of a kingdom of carbink. she needs to find xerneas to get the power to properly lead her kingdom or else it will fall to ruin, so she leaves on a journey with her friends to find xerneas by following their fairy aura.

along the way shes attacked by different thieves. ones a delphox, ones a chesnaught, and ones a greninja. in their attempt to catch diancie, the thieves often thwart eachother because they refuse to work together. theyre all so greedy that they want diancie's powers for themself and refuse to share the profit they could get if they captured her.

eventually, diancie finds xerneas but xerneas tells her that the power is already inside of her and leaves. diancie and her friends are then attacked byt he thieves again. the thieves are all blinded by their greed and hatred for eachother that they dont realize theyve woken yveltal up until its too late.

yveltal begins to punish the thieves for their greed by turning them to stone and destroying the forest around them. diancie and her friends are caught in the crossfire, because yveltal is so mad because of the greedy thieves, it cannot distinguish between them and the criminals.

diancie realizes what xerneas meant by the power already being inside her and uses her power to protect her friends. she tries to fight yveltal herself but it just makes the legendary pokemon more mad. thankfully, xerneas appears to calm their sibling down, and yveltal flies off, leaving xerneas to heal the forest and heal the thieves. the thieves swear off stealing and start to work together, having learned their lesson, and diancie goes home and rules her kingdom with her friends.

oversimplification, mighta gotten some details wrong, yknow how it is!! its kalosian obviously. its a good story
