It’s the first day of Winter and to celebrate all the unlocks in Newcrest lately, the Benevolent and Proactive Order of Llamas have rewarded the town with a brand new skating rink. The McCollums are still getting used to it though...

Round 3 - Household 3: The Okories

So I wasn’t able to make the cool market idea work the way I wanted which was kind of sad because I put a lot of time into building it. However, on a much happier note please let me introduce it’s replacement, Grab A Deal Newcrest!

The town has made huge leaps forward since it began and several business deals have been presented to the community lately. Naomi Okorie has signed a contract with the discount retail chain, Grab A Deal. She now runs a chain store where her stock varies week by week, giving local sims plenty of choice. One round it might be bedroom objects, while another it could be bathrooms!

(Grab A Deal regrets to inform customers that our giant inflatable gnomes are not for sale at this time. And for the third time Kristina Nicastro, we will not be pulling them down just because they spoil the view from your balcony!)

Last round Tom Fortune and Lisa Bowman spent their week in the recently unlocked Granite Falls, so I figured this was a good opportunity to introduce Scouts to Newcrest and consider the activity “unlocked” for all families in town. So anyway, bam... Cameron is a Llama Scout!

BACC: Newcrest Map - October 2019

So I took a short break from The Sims 4 and was going to return with a small series in Brindleton Bay that I’d started planning out but I’ve also been missing my BACC series and I can’t do both without my head exploding so I’m making a return to the BACC. I’m surprised it only took a few weeks to return. Seems if I’m feeling burnt out the best solution is to just come back in a few weeks and see how I’m feeling. My posts will likely be less regular than before, but I hope they’re still as enjoyable. 🙂

I also updated the Newcrest map to show you where we’re up to. Families and community lots have been flying around all over the place since I last shared the map, but I’m confident most of the moving is complete.

A sneak peek at the Lounge I’m halfway through building in Newcrest. Experiencing some issues with column heights and friezes. Not sure if it looks too residential, so I might add a sign outside later on.

Cameron grows up and rolls for his first adult trait. He rolls a 4, which means he gains his mother’s Music Lover trait.

Police Officers Ecstatic Over New Leather Patrol Car Seats: Police Station Announced For Region

Louisa has been working hard to make sure Newcrest is ready to take on some new opportunities that have been unlocked recently. She’s received word that a police station will be opening up soon in the region and they’re looking for cadets. This is a perfect opportunity for the town so Louisa is searching for sims that want to take up the opportunity! She also found out that a hospital is being built in the region as well, no doubt needing interns when it opens.

Her efforts haven’t gone unnoticed and the Grateful Citizens Committee has organised a promotion for the mayor.

(When Newcrest reached 10 households, we unlocked a position in the Detective career. We’re also very close to opening a position in the Doctor career too. Newcrest has come a long way.)

It’s nearly Ramiro’s birthday. He’ll be the first of Newcrest’s founding sims to turn into an elder. I’m determined to let life take it’s course, but at the same time it make me sad that we’ll be saying goodbye to the first generation one day!

Who’s your favorite sim composer? Simozart? Simschubert? Simstravinsky? What about Ramiro Padmore? Wait, you haven’t heard of Ramiro Padmore?! Well, we’ll have to change that. In addition to maxing his violin skills, Ramiro has started writing some music. It needs to be perfect if he’s going to play it at the opening night of the Lounge in Newcrest.

(Maxing the violin was the final requirement we needed for unlocking the Lounge community lot. Michael Madcap shared his L10 Comedy, Louisa McCollum shared her L10 Singing and Ramiro shared his L10 Violin.)

“But I don’t like honey cake!” cried the butterfly. “How dare you say such things, especially on my dad’s birthday! You take that back!” exclaimed Erika, clearly shocked at the rudeness of her purple, stuffed and ultimately powerless toy.

“My dad looks after all the things in the garden... well, all of them except for the Cowplant he forgot to feed... you don’t want to end up like that, do you?!” she said threateningly. “No, no! Please don’t let that happen! I love honey cake!” the butterfly whimpered. “That’s right. You be a good toy or you’ll go squish!”

Five Facts about Charles Fortune:

When Charles arrived in Newcrest at the start of the series, he was on the run from a failed criminal job in Bridgeport. He needed somewhere to lay low and the police didn’t know who they were looking for so he decided to start again in Newcrest where sims didn’t and still don’t know who he really is. He prefers to keep it that way.

After moving to Newcrest, Charles found work out of town with a new criminal gang called the Twinbrook Troublemakers. One of the gang’s jobs turned out to be at Ramiro Padmore’s first workplace, the Little Corsican Bistro. After some quick thinking, Charles managed to get Ramiro out of the building (effectively saving his life) before things got out of hand and the building caught fire. At the end of that day, Charles all but left the gang in favor of running his own back in Newcrest.

While Charles technically has the Evil trait, he is also Clumsy and Self-Assured. I like to play him as a confident villain who regularly screws up so bad with his evil plans that he’s never any real harm and is ultimately a good person that likes to help his friends. He’ll ruin their day but wouldn’t want to ruin their lives.

His wife, Sara, is a scientist and often brings home projects that she’s been working on. Charles usually gets roped into her unpredictable experiments and never knows what serum she’s going to ask him to drink next. I initially planned on him being cloned in one of Sara’s experiments but I realised I couldn’t clone my most developed and successful character because I felt it would detract from who he really was if there was another one of him forever running about.

Charles is my most developed character ever. I was able to enjoy and explore creative writing more with him. I’ve never been that interested in exploring a sim’s character below the surface before Sims 4 and Charles has helped me create a world I can look back on with happy memories! This series wouldn’t have been as interesting without him.

Jocelyn is happy that Ramiro loves his bees but she did have to say he spent more time with them than his family in the afternoon. Ramiro’s reply is usually “but they are my family!” Hopefully a balance can be worked out one day...

Naomi is a long way down in the Business career but reaching L3 is still nice to see! She arrived home with no energy too, but I’m not surprised seeing that she runs a shop, has a job and raises a child! 😲

Some changes going forward:

After reaching the end of the round I’ve decided I’m going to be putting my bacc series on hold, which has been more of a difficult decision than I was expecting.

I’ve got to the stage that I need some time away from it. I’d like to revisit my Newcrest sims in some form one day. I’m sure you know how it is when you play a bunch of sims for a long time. You get pretty attached to them.

This post has been a long time in the making tbh. There are a lot of mixed emotions involved and my feelings on the game’s direction haven’t helped much. I’d still like to leave things open in case I return to my bacc series in the future. It’s tricky for me to even think of playing without one. 😢

I’m also happy to see more people exploring the sims with community building in mind, whether it’s a bacc or more story-based. It’s fun to play with a group of sims and watch them all grow over time, so I’m keen to see how other people’s stories continue.

I’d like to try a more laid-back approach to playing the Sims 4. Maybe I’ll set myself some small goals later on, maybe not. I have no idea honestly.

That probably ends my public service announcement, so thanks for all the support and kind words you’ve shared since I started. I hope you still enjoy what I create in the future, whatever it may be.
