TMNT: ODYSSEY MARCH 2015 BY ANDREW MODEEN, JIM LAWSON, DAN BERGER, RICK ARTHUR, ARSENIY DUBAKOV, SOPHIE CAMPBELL, MARK FELTHAM, COURTLAND BRUGGER, DENNIS KENNEDY, ANGIE STERNITZKE, DMITRY BOBROVNIK, TOKKA, RICK MCCOLLUM, BILL ANDERSON AND A.C. FARLEY

After discovering she is being erased from reality, Renet goes to Donatello minutes before his death, to pass her powers to him, to prevent the destruction of the multiverse in the hands of the Shogun. Donatello then goes at the final moments of the lives of his brothers to recruit them for this final mission.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SCORE: 8
This is non-canon and also not an actual official TMNT story. However, it is meant to bring closure to the pre-Viacom multiverse and it does involve several TMNT artists from all time.
It is hard to discuss without spoilers, so I will continue in the spoiler section. I think it was mostly good, even with all the fan service, but it has a couple of flaws that could take you away from the story. One is how much it already is like another BIG crisis-event story, and the other one is the identity of the Shogun.
The art feels a lot like this belongs to the regular Mirage publishing comics. Mostly because the artists involved were a part of it.
Spoilers after the break...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stop right there... Dimension A is both Fred Wolf and Archie. I know that simplifying them is easier, but they had different characters and events. It’s just a small detail.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Incorporating Venus de Milo and Slash (from Archie) was another interesting spin to this story, as these characters had no alternatives. Of course, Venus is forbidden territory, I am not even sure how Jim Lawson dared use her :p
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bloodsucker is another character of forbidden access. But only for Mirage comics, and not for fan-made comics like this. For whatever reason, Rick Veitch didn’t want the story to be reprinted and it remains his.
The Mighty Mutanimals are brought back in spirit to rectify the wrong done to them by Mr. Null. Now, you could remove Null and the Mighty Mutanimals from the story, and even Venus, and there could be a simpler (faster) way of approaching the same ending.
There are a couple of things I figured out by the middle of the story. One was that the Shogun was a turtle (and my main suspicion was on Mikey, since he mysteriously “dissipated” and no one ever heard from him again). The other one was that this story was written like a movie (has many things taken from the road-trip formula), or more accurately, the “journey of the hero”. Almost every story follows the “journey of the hero”, even if by accident, but in this case it is specific, that it is too evident. It’s not a bad thing. But they could have been a bit more creative with the story beats.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, the story that is being ripped off here is “Zero Hour”. To me Zero Hour was such an enjoyable story, I also found myself ripping it off at some point in my life. It’s very tempting because it is full of awesome tropes. In this case however, Michelangelo becomes Parallax. I don’t think this was the right choice. Sure, it made sense considering his disappearance, but even in the end, it would have made more sense for Leonardo to be doing this. After all, he was full of regret at the end of his life, he failed in keeping his brothers united and would have benefited the most by “rebooting” the universe into the IDW canon (by the way, heavy spoilers if you haven’t read the first saga of the IDW comic).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And if anything, Michelangelo should have played Leonardo’s part here, given how emotional he is. Getting the family back makes sense for him too. But this is something you may agree or disagree, as I can understand the reasoning for both.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This story separates two multiverses. Pre and post Viacom. However, this was kind of undone by the Turtles from Dimension F, when they visited the Fred Wolf world (ignoring the events of Turtles Forever). Turtles Forever, by the way, is referenced in this story.
So just like the self-made issues that gave volume 3 a conclusion that tied to Volume 4. This special ties both the IDW series with the Mirage universe. I think it is good that this was fan made. You can love it and assume this is what actually happened, or not like it, and just dismiss it.
Whatever the case is, the Turtles and Splinter finally made it into the hall of legends.

We imagined how an NBA expansion draft would look today
All 30 SB Nation NBA blogs joined in to imagine a future where the league adds to expansion teams. Here are the results.
The NBA is approaching a 14th season existing with 30 teams, the longest period of time that the league has gone without adding or losing teams. Ever since the Charlotte Bobcats — now Hornets — joined in 2004, the 30-team league has been a happy, if flawed, default.
The NBA is also experiencing a global boom. It’s making more money than ever before, highlighted by a record-breaking nine-year, $24 billion television deal that kicked in last season. It’s rapidly growing in popularity both in the United States, where 29 of the 30 teams are located, and globally, where more and more international players are introduced to the league. Given the way this world works, and how quickly the NBA is rising, it was no surprise when NBA commissioner Adam Silver said this about expanding to 31 or 32 teams:
“I don’t want to put a precise timeline on it, but it’s inevitable at some point,” he told C.J. McCollum. (Yes, that’s Blazers guard C.J. McCollum).
Inevitable. That’s a strong word, but that’s where the league is headed.
SB Nation’s Tom Ziller is all over the logistics. You can read this explainer about what would need to happen for the NBA to vote for expansion, and also 13 places where the NBA could expand to, including two international options. (Not London!)
All those things have to be worked out by the smart people in the NBA before any expansion could be approved. We at SB Nation don’t have those same limitations, and we also know that there’s one especially fun thing about the process: The Expansion draft.
So, we are doing one of our own.
The concept is simple: all 30 teams can protect eight players off their roster, and the two expansion teams (it might just be one, but we’re going with two because it’s more fun) can pick from the remaining pool. They’d also get a top draft pick, but that’s not a major factor for this exercise.
We asked all 30 of our SB Nation NBA team blogs which eight players they would hold back from the expansion draft, and had them answer why.
Here’s who they protected and why:
Peachtree Hoops (Atlanta Hawks): Dennis Schroder, Taurean Prince, DeAndre Bembry, John Collins, Dewayne Dedmon, Mike Muscala, Ersan Ilyasova, Kent Bazemore

Bullets Forever (Washington Wizards): John Wall, Bradley Beal, Otto Porter, Markieff Morris, Marcin Gortat, Kelly Oubre, Tim Frazier, Mike Scott
Then there’s the actual draft.
Using the players our team communities left unprotected, SB Nation’s Kristian Winfield drafted one team, while our Seattle Supersonics blog Sonics Rising — a hopeful and extremely likely expansion team whenever it finally happens — selected the other. They will unveil their rosters at noon ET.
NOTE: Per expansion draft rules, each new expansion team is limited to one selection per NBA team. Hence, some of the picks.
Remember the time we last did this?
Tom Ziller will take a stroll down memory lane to 2004, when the Charlotte Bobcats (now Hornets) entered the league. There were some odd players left unprotected and some fascinating ripple effects.
Who would you pick?
Now it’s your turn. Here are the five most notable players left unprotected at each position.
And here’s the full list. Pick four from each category (but not two players from the same team) and let us know your 12-man rosters in the comments section:

The boys have come home from school during a thunderstorm. Archie is still grumpy that he lost that game of chess to his little brother. He’s also still going through his mean streak childhood phase and hasn’t talked to Robbie all day.

Robbie ages up one hour before school starts. He’s hoping to be friends with his brother, but Archie is going through a Mean Streak at the moment.
(Robbie rolls a 5 and gains the Good trait from his father.)

Archie hasn’t seen his father play any chess. Maybe he can beat him? Justin loses his queen to Archie’s bishop. Hmm. Justin remembers a move his own father played at this moment back in Riverview which helps save him at the last minute. That was close... Maybe next time, Archie.

Archie invites Robbie to play a few games on the family’s new chess table, knowing he has strong chances of winning. Robbie managed to beat him even though he has little experience which made Archie mad. How is he meant to become a Whiz Kid when he loses to his little brother?
(Archie only has 5 days until he becomes a teenager and the Whiz Kid aspiration is slipping from his grasp. It doesn’t look like he will be able to achieve his goal, but he’s not ready to give up just yet!)

Archie blows out the candles and becomes a teenager. He rolls a 6 which means he gains his father’s Foodie trait. Sadly he missed out on completing the Whiz Kid aspiration. Maybe another child can complete it this round. Completing that aspiration would help unlock a position in the Doctor career.
(That ends our week with the McCollums. Next up are Oscar and Zaki in the worn-down apartment block up the street.)

Round 1 - Household 3: The McCollum Family
With all the families covered from the Lake’s Edge neighbourhood of Newcrest, we check on our third family who live in the Boschdale neighbourhood. The McCollums are the only family here so far but that is soon to change I think.
Louisa McCollum has survived the competition of Newcrest’s first election to continue on as Mayor of Newcrest and her sons are growing up! Justin has reached L10 Programming on the first day back with the family and can now pursue the Start Up Entrepreneur branch of the Tech Guru career. :)

Investments In Education Paying Brain Dividends: Children of Newcrest Receive High Grades
Louisa McCollum Day 10/14, Autumn, Year 228
“I’m so proud! Just because we’re a small town doesn’t mean our children are falling behind at school. Archie never really needed much help with his homework, hopefully his little brother picks things up as easily. I’m keen to see how they go at high school.”
(If any of the second generation were going to get top grades at school it was going to be Archie. He just can’t stand the idea of unfinished homework!)
