this might make me sound ignorant but is the radfem part of term not about hating men? they hate trans people, they hate men and they view both as predatory, obviously men are not their primary targets but I feel like it would be incorrect to say that they don't hate men, especially since many of them believe in gender separatism (which is bs for numerous reasons). it's wrong to bring up men every time someone talks about the transmisogyny terfs spew bc that would be derailing the conversation but can men (trans/cis/whatever) not express how they've been hurt by terfs in their own posts or conversations? apologies if ive completely misinterpreted what you were saying I just want to understand the topic better
I’m not disputing that terfs hate men. However, I think it’s an error to highlight their hatred of men as ideologically significant. Sure they talk about hating men, but their political alliances reveal that dismantling patriarchy, or a desire to oppress men, is not a concern for them, given that they support the criminalisation of sex work, the state enforcement of sex as biologically determined, and are allied with the same right wing groups (such as the Heritage Foundation in the US) that want to criminalise abortion and reinstate “traditional” white western gender norms. If you view terf political goals through the lens of hating men, then their political efforts have overwhelmingly been a massive failure. Which I don’t think is very useful analysis!
A hatred of men is also not politically useful in general, because there is no money to be made or political battles to be won hating men. Hatred of men is not a systemic issue because men are not oppressed as a social group on the basis of their manhood. There is no political or financial infrastructure built on the foundation of hating men, nor is there infrastructure dedicated to maintaining a systemic hatred of men. Hating trans people, however, is extremely financially and politically lucrative, particularly hatred of trans women/transfems, because of how transphobia and misogyny intersect with and reinforce one another. There are ample political, financial, medical, and social institutions that operate on the maintenance of patriarchy, many of which terfs share a political platform with. So terf hatred of men is clearly not that big a deal given how willing they are to ally with right wing groups and fascists, who are the last people on earth to tolerate the oppression of men as a political goal.
This is why people (myself included) take umbrage with the continued insistence that terfs hate men as a central foundation of their beliefs. It’s not incorrect to say that they hate men, but hating men is not the problem with terfs. Hatred of men is not an inherently reactionary position anymore than hating cis people is. The problem is the way terfs conceptualise gender, and the political goals that flow from that conceptualisation, which affects all trans people but primarily affect trans women/transfems. The spectre they raise about bathrooms, about sports, is always the age-old transmisogynistic conspiracy of “a man in a dress” “invading women’s spaces” because the historical legacy of transmisogyny looms large in public consciousness, and reinforced by medical/psychiatric institutions in particular, in a way that hatred and fear of trans men does not (autogynephilia exists as a mental illness but autophallophilia does not, for example. Julia Serrano talks about this in Whipping Girl if you want to read more on the subject). Terfs don’t care about trans men in men’s sports, they don’t raise the counter-spectre of trans men being mass assaulted in bathrooms by cis men who discover that they’re “really women” - these are not rhetorical moves that are interesting or useful to them, because it does not position them as victims. Trans men are hurt by their transphobic rhetoric, suffer under transphobic laws that are passed, and face transphobic discrimination from people in their lives as a result of how mainstream transphobia is (and I am speaking from significant and traumatic personal experience on this front). We are not, however, the face of the transgender boogeyman, and we are not the primary target of terfs. We are targets because we are trans, not because we are men. To be dismissive of the claim that terfs hate men is not a dismissal of the pain and violence transmascs go through, because our oppression is not founded on our manhood.
So when you see terf political efforts and terf rhetoric, their obsessive focus on trans women as arch villains who need to be destroyed, and you come to the conclusion that a hatred of men is the animating force behind terf political activity - that is a transmisogynistic conclusion, both because you are framing their transmisogyny as something that is primarily informed by a hatred of men, and because “terfs hate men” is a non-sequitur in discussions about the political and social damage that their beliefs cause. If terfs hate men, they do so as a hobby, and I don’t really give a fuck about their hobbies

"Project Cobra revolved around experimental encephalic chips used to alter a subject’s stimulus processing and gain temporary control of their actions when activated. The chips, better known as Cobra chips, would be installed in the frontal lobe and served as filter for any stimuli and signals, amplifying and reducing them to alter the subject’s reactions, reflexes, and alertness to the user’s needs. Through correct installment and use of various cybernetic enhancements, implants, stabilizers and stimulants, the subject could be turned into a shell of a person without any free will, essentially turning them into an obedient supersoldier." — Excerpt from the article on Arasaka Special Programs

Here’s yet another Marble Hornets character lineup! This time featuring the first half of the comic book characters, Jessica, Taylor, Sydney, and Dan. Is it canon that Sydney is non-binary or did I make that up? I have no idea, but I gave them a little nb flag on their bracelet anyway. Screw canon, I make the rules.
Also I drew Jess in her casual clothes rather than her uniform (even though her uniform is more recognizable) bc I think her uniform looks goofy and I don’t plan on ever drawing it, so using it for this ref would be kinda pointless.
Tomorrow I will finally be finishing off the last ref sheet including Skully, Adam, David, and our boy the slendy man.

How did the crab get out of prison? And why did the crab get bad grades?
The answers to these conundrums and other clawsome jokes were among the competitors for the inaugural World’s Funniest Crab Joke competition, held by the Crab Museum in Margate to celebrate International Crab Day.
The winning gag, submitted by an anonymous joker, was: “Why did the crab cross the road? It didn’t. It used the sidewalk.”
An expert panel of judges, including the comedians Harry Hill, Rose Matafeo, Sally Phillips and Phil Wang, as well as children from Ramsgate Arts primary school, scored their favourite jokes before the totals were tallied and a winner crowned.
The only rules of the contest were that the jokes should be kept PG, and that lobsters could be mentioned in the setup of the joke, but not the “pinchline”.
Organisers said that, although most of the 700 submissions did abide by the rules, several jokes “were disqualified for scientific inaccuracy, and rather a lot for lewdness”.
In an unexpected sideways move, the crabs themselves picked the winner from the four jokes ranked highest by the judges, with the help of some tinned fish in bait bags and rolled-up pieces of paper with the jokes written on them.
The twist on the classic road-crossing formula proved triumphant, and was followed in second by another variation on a classic: “Man walks into a restaurant with a crab under his arm and says, ‘Do you make crab cakes?’ Manager answers, ‘Yes, we do.’ ‘Good,’ says the man, ‘because it’s his birthday.’”
Third place was awarded jointly to: “Why didn’t the crab help the chicken cross the road? Because it was eaten by a pelican crossing,” and: “What format do you have to save photos of crab soup on to? Floppy bisque.”
A Crab Museum spokesperson said the organisers hoped the contest might inspire people into environmental activism: “The quality and quantity of jokes this year has been astounding. We’ve been pinching ourselves since the submissions closed! That said, laughing at jokes, much like learning about crabs, can be a powerful tool to help us reassess our relationship with our environment. You’d be surprised how quickly you can go from chuckling at crab gags to letting down SUV tires. Whilst we may not have made this clear to our judges, it is in this spirit that the World’s Funniest Crab Joke competition has been organised.”
The museum, which opened in 2021 and claims to be “Europe’s first and only museum dedicated to the decapod”, aims to raise awareness of the often unheralded but incredibly diverse world of crabs.

How I DIDN’T Become a Villain…
ch.1 piece
•
“Wow,” Danny commented with his mouth full. “You managed to get a shit ton of stuff done. Good thing no one walked in for hours.”
“Dude, first off, nice manners,” Ray said sarcastically, the left corner of his lip lifting with the tone. “Second, shut the fuck up. I keep telling you, you’re gonna jinx us.”
Danny snorted, swallowing the food in his mouth.
“C’mon, nothing’s gonna—"
Ding-ding-ding.
Danny froze like a deer in headlights. Ray, on the other hand, threw his hands up with an exasperated sound before bringing them down loudly against his thighs. He turned his head to direct a glare that screamed I told you so, pointing aggressively at the out-of-sight entrance.
Danny raised his hands in surrender, eyebrows high. He was about to defend himself when a shudder ran down his spine. His body tensed instinctively, chest tightening in anticipation of that familiar cold. It never came. A deep unease settled in his chest instead. He fought down that fight-or-flight adrenaline that was flooding him, trying to push him into unnecessary action. His eyes widened at the feeling. One he hadn’t felt in years.
He clenched his fists that were still in the air and physically shook the feeling off. Ray let his death glare drop to raise his eyebrows at him questioningly.
“Uh, you okay?”
Other than feeling twitchy all over and like someone stomped on my grave?
“Yeah, peachy.” He cringed at the croak in his voice. “Just shivers. The usual.”

"Administratively, too, [...] queens were considered the legal lords of their landholdings. [...] Grants noted that the queen's officials had administrative autonomy without being subject to the king or anyone else, and evidence of the same assumption can be gleaned from court rolls that were recorded with headings indicating the lord of the manor whose court proceedings were being enrolled. As an example, some court rolls for the manor of Haveringatte-Bower specified that it was the court of [Margaret of Anjou] that was in session, while later rolls recorded Elizabeth Woodville as the lord of the manor court."
-Michele Seah, 'My Lady Queen, the Lord of the Manor': The Economic Roles of Late Medieval Queens", Parergon, Volume 37, Number 2, 2020.
#queenship tag#margaret of anjou#elizabeth woodville#I really appreciated how Seah acknowledged the uneven surviving evidence for her subjects and how that affects her analysis.#It was very brief but it was more than what most historians do so it was very refreshing :)#my post#english history#this is for @ anon who asked if its true that Margaret mostly hosted her own courts while EW mostly stayed with her husband#I'm not sure which (if any) historian has said something like this* but I highly doubt it's true !#We don't really have solid itineraries in place for either queen to make any kind of firm conclusions of the sort#(ie: about their residences or anything else) though I'm sure it would have varied depending on the situation#But either way it's explicitly clear that both Margaret and Elizabeth held their own courts in their own lands on multiple occasions#And we also have evidence of both of them residing with their husbands in regular circumstances#*tbh this is too long to get into right now but this assumption does fit into the few 'revisionist' interpretations of both Margaret and EW#(which imo is just as degrading as her traditional interpretation for the latter) so I wouldn't be surprised if some#historians may have framed their situations in such a way and relied entirely on their own assumptions to do so#Either way as far as I know there is no evidence of any such contrast existing - at least not on a consistent basis.#and the evidence we do have contradicts the assumption#Hope this helps! I figured a proper excerpt from this article would clarify the point better than any direct answer from me <3#also in case anyone was wondering I *think* the title ('My Lady Queen the Lord of the Manor') was referring to administrative accounts#of EW based on what Seah wrote here - though ofc I'm not sure#queue

Girl, help, the book authors are trying too hard to be "hip" with the fleeting "teen lingo" and trends again, immediately dating their works before they're even released
#eye twitching seeing certain modern slang in for real published books unironically#tiktokian slang that is out of date within weeks#it's a pet peeve of mine but so is modern books mentioning tiktok or stuff at all esp. when not relevant in general#god it pulls you out of the illusion#turns it into this very set in stone time frame rather than letting it just be or resonate on its own which is fine sometimes if natural#you can't avoid some mentions of some things when setting it today but in these cases it's so forced#hello fellow kidz.jpeg vibe in book form#books#this isn't even specific to ya books i've seen it in adult books as well#booklr#petty as i am i once stopped reading a first chapter excerpt for mentioning spotify by name on page 1 i'm sorry#this other book though oh they've used online phrases and boomer insult 3 times and brought up tiktok twice it's on thin f-ing ice#ignore me i'm petty but don't ignore me because this is a legit problem in the media industry#don't even get me started on text speak in the dialogue or texting sections yeah#it's not quite as bad if it's some fake variation of an app or just generic about being online but mentioning by name oh i'm gonna explode#most times anyway#i have yet to see it handled well#this was about slang though so tangent but !! gaah

Luffy nods and pulls his hat onto his head, holding the brim with both hands tightly. Ace and Sanji, seemingly not sure what to say but wanting to help, crowd him.
‘Give him to me,’ Sabo suddenly says, pointing at the cart he’s in. ‘Give him to me and I’ll hold him, and he won’t get in trouble.’
‘I’m not a baby ,’ Luffy grumbles.
Ace looks up at Sabo sharply and they exchange a look.
‘But Sabo’s all alone in there,’ Ace says, ‘don’t you wanna keep him company?’
Luffy narrows his eyes at him.
‘You’re trying to trick me,’ he tells Ace.
But he also looks at Sabo and wavers.
‘This is unfair,’ Luffy whines, but does end up climbing into the cart.
Sabo makes space for him, spreading his legs to sit Luffy not exactly on his lap, but directly on the wood. Which is probably best, because of the injuries still littering his thighs.
scenes from my fic that I'm proud of 4/?
< read on AO3 >
#excerpts from my fic#asl brothers#they're not even brother yet in here but Ace and Sabo are already teaming up to Big Brother Luffy#i really love this scene because it's kinda one of the first where they start working together for Lu's sake#even though they don't really like each other yet

Man, I feel like I'm going to leave the next UtBlack chapter quietly shipping Efniesen and Faber and I'm so here for it
C'mon my trans kings you can do it!!
Alas not the next chapter as it's like chapter 104, I think, but it will be coming up!
I love writing Faber so much, and he's got an important role to play in Underline the Black too so I'm setting him in place for that (and so we can roll into Underline the Red as well).
It's occurred to me that Underline the Red is probably ready to start intermittently coming back into rotation along with Underline the Gold and Underline the Blue! I just need to figure out how to do it so we're not on a hugely angsty hiatus with that story, since things do get heavy for Faber for a while!
#asks and answers#faber castle#efnisien ap wledig#underline the black#underline the red#but yeah the excerpt alas was from like chapter 104#we be 10 chapters behind that#or close to it#in what i'm actually putting up vs. the buffer that i'm writing sdalfkjdsa#the buffer determines when i can start posting more often again though so#once i get to a certain point underline the black might be able to update more frequently again!
