Winnie was old enough to know better, and worried a lot for her little brothers and father. 

Lydia said goodbye to both her sons and prayed she would see them again.

Winnie watched as her parents said goodbye to each other, and hoped that she would one day find love as strong as theirs.

Note that I write for my own sake, and at the pleasure of my muse. I tend to pick something up and play with it for a bit then put it down, forget about it after a couple months, etc. And then think of it again, have to read thru what I've previously written, and maybe decide to add to it. Point being, I have a bunch of WIPs in various states of completion and in a few fandoms.

Bro (short for Brogency): Mr. and Mrs. Bennett decided to pass off their third (and final) child as a son. I'm like 24 chapters in and the main romance is better Ryan (aka Mary Bennett) and an OC.

12Days (short for the 12 Days of Christmas): Modern NA AU in which the Morland family has a rotating curse every Christmas (affecting one family member per year) related to the items in the annoying Xmas song.

C-Oz (short for Catherine In Oz): The night after Gen Tilney tells Catherine she needs to leave, there's a big storm at the abbey. Insert Wizard of Oz dream in which Catherine is trying to get home.

Baby 3 (short for And Baby Makes Three): Henry Tilney is a paleontologist and Catherine Morland gets a leopard. Bringing Up Baby for NA. I'm 14 chapters in and I think I'll be able to wrap it up in another chapter.

Extremes in Dating: A modern S&S AU in which Edward Ferrars just wants a quiet night alone and his girlfriend Lucy has other plans. (Related to Drynuary For Hookups and based on an abysmal date my brother told me about.)

L+A (short for Love and Agriculture): Greek-ish/Roman-y pantheistic version of Emma with Emma as the goddess of love.

Luna. A P&P covid allegory with werewolves instead of covid, centered on Lady Catherine de Bourgh and her circle of correspondence. (They don't really care if the mysterious illness is eviscerating poor people in Town so long as it doesn't threaten their country estates, etc). Probably too preachy for me to finish.

MBDE (short for Mr. Bennett Dies Early): Mr. Bennett sneaks to Netherfield to meet his new neighbor, has an accident on the way home, and dies. Mr. Collins shows up to inherit and decides to marry Jane who has fallen in love-at-first-sight with Bingley. Elizabeth tries to protect Jane from Collins' unwelcome regard. Darcy tries to protect Elizabeth from the same.

Anyway, I set myself a goal to get Brogency, Extremes in Dating, and And Baby Makes Three into peer review this year. So far (it's still January) I like my odds.

Mega Abbey 2. Sequel to Origin Story, a hero/villain AU for NA. Henry's dad shows up unexpectedly so Henry has to pretend he isn't dating Catherine to protect her from his supervillain father and Catherine wants to rescue Henry from his supervillain legacy. I'm about 8 chapters in, trying to figure a few plot points out.

Reindeer: I try to repurpose Christmas carols into JAFF poems and this is me slowly adapting "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" into "Lizzy the Leading Lady" about how Elizabeth Bennett is clearly superior to all other Austen heroines.

Sabrina. MP as Sabrina except Fanny won't end up with either Bertram brother.

The Douai Martyrs is a name applied by the Catholic Church to 158 Catholic priests trained in the English College at Douai, France, who were executed by the English state between 1577 and 1680.[2]

History

Having completed their training at Douai, many returned to England and Wales with the intent to minister to the Catholic population. Under the Jesuits, etc. Act 1584 the presence of a priest within the realm was considered high treason. Missionaries from Douai were looked upon as a papal agents intent on overthrowing the queen. Many were arrested under charges of treason and conspiracy, resulting in torture and execution. In total, 158 members of Douai College were martyred between the years 1577 and 1680.[1] The first was Cuthbert Mayne, executed at Launceston, Cornwall on the 29 November 1577. [3] The last was Thomas Thwing, hanged, drawn, and quartered at York in October 1680.[4] Each time the news of another execution reached the College, a Solemn Mass of thanksgiving was sung.

Many people risked their lives during this period by assisting them, which was also prohibited under the Act. A number of the "seminary priests" from Douai were executed at a three-sided gallows at Tyburn near the present-day Marble Arch. A plaque to the "Catholic martyrs" executed at Tyburn in the period 1535 - 1681 is located at 8 Hyde Park Place, the site of Tyburn convent.[5]

They were beatified between 1886, 1929 and 1987, and only 20 were canonized in 1970. Today, British Catholic dioceses celebrate their feast day on 29 October.[1]

1910s: The Thorpe Legacy

Before we move on to following Lydia and Edgar in their married life, let’s do a wrap up of her siblings and their lives. To reiterate, I don’t play the “spares” but I do track what MCCC and neighborhood story progression does and then create my own sort of “head canon” around it. 

Because I like genetics, let’s start with pics of our 1900s heirs, Frederick Thorpe and his wife, Sybil Webster.

She is very much her mother’s child with her father’s coloring. 

Next up is Mabel:

Mabel was studious and family oriented throughout her entire life. It needs to be noted that I played this generation long before the update allowing you to set a sim’s romantic/woohoo interests came out. I was using Wonderful Whims at the time and Mabel was set to be gay through their likes/dislikes settings. When I left Mabel to follow Lydia to her household, teenage Mabel had a girlfriend named Anne and I was hoping MCCC would pair them when they aged up. Unfortunately, Anne passed away, a casualty of neighborhood story progression. Mabel became a teacher and devoted herself to her students. Imagine my surprise when MCCC married her off to a man, Garrison Nair. I hadn’t realized that MCCC wouldn’t pick up on the gender preference settings from Wonderful Whims. But it kind of works for the time period, I guess. Garrison was a widower with a toddler son named Carlton and was a serious and intelligent sim. I like to think that he knew about Mabel, but suggested they get married- he needed help with his son and she wanted a family of her own. I never saw a single romantic interaction between them at family gatherings, but they did seem to get along quite well as friends. They eventually had 2 childen, Phillip and Dorothy. Mabel lived a long life and passed away as an elder.

 Next is Alton. Alton was very nearly heir, but he went through one hell of a mean streak in his teen years that made me decide against it and prefer Lydia. Much like Mabel, Alton was set to be bi via Wonderful Whims. MCCC married him to a woman named Agnes and they had three sons, Raymond, Arthur, and Edwin. Edwin had only just been born when Alton enlisted in World War I. Alton unfortunately did not return from the war. Agnes eventually remarried but had no further children. 

Evelyn was the musician of the family, and played the violin almost nonstop throughout her childhood and teen years. She married her high school sweetheart, Sam Randolph, just before WW1 broke out. They had 2 daughters, Pearl and Martha, before Sam enlisted. Their son, Samuel, was born soon after news of Sam being killed in action reached Evelyn. Evelyn never remarried and devoted herself to raising her children. She remained close to her siblings and her nieces and nephews until she passed away as an elder.

Finally we have Minnie, the precocious baby of the family. Minnie was a bit of a wild child and daredevil in her youth. She married Matthias McMillan quite young and to everyone’s surprise had 4 daughters in very quick succession. I’m not so sure the first daughter wasn’t the reason for the quick wedding as soon as she became a young adult. Their daughters were Sonia, Olive, Genevieve, and Clea. Minnie also became a war widow when Matthias was lost in WW1. She also never remarried and remained close with her family. She was the one who remained in the family home and her descendants still live there now. 

And that’s it! The 1910s posts will be short and fast because I did not take a lot of pictures at all. I’m currently in the 1930s in gameplay so we may actually get caught up soon unless I get lazy about updating again (which may very well happen!)

TW: death

WW1 came to a close, and many families learned the fate of their loved ones. 

Edgar Sullivan returned home safe to his wife and children.

Leland Sullivan was not so lucky. He was killed in battle, his young life cut far too short.

Oscar Sullivan returned home safely, but forever changed by his experiences.

Others lost to the Thorpe family during the war include Alton, Evelyn’s husband Sam Randolph, Minnie’s husband Matthias McMillan.

The boys and Edgar were lucky to be stationed with Lydia’s brother, Alton.

They settled into camp and awaited what was to come.

Back home, Lydia and Winnie were involved in volunteer efforts for the war. Through their charitable work, they became acquainted with Mrs. Adler whose own son was serving overseas.
