thank you sm<33
Braiding Lessons ~ Kili x Reader
A/N: Omg Kili request!!! I love him and I am such a sucker for this plot!! so I hope you enjoy it as much as I do omg!! Also funfact but I almost deleted everything that I wrote during my roadtrip cause I was so unsatisfied with it ;-; Which is probably why it took me so long to actually publish it yikes
âą ËËË Warnings: Fluff àżàŸ âą ËËË Words: 1.0k àżàŸ âą ËËË Request: Yes (Thank you <33) àżàŸ âą ËËËAmrĂąlimĂ© ~ My Love àżàŸ
Summary: You always knew dwarves had various beautiful braids, but how come Kili doesn't? So one night you decide to change that and help him out.
You tilted your head to the side, as you let your eyes skim over the various dwarves, whom you were accompanying on their journey. Being the only human, surrounded by one hobbit and several dwarves definitely let you notice a few differences about their culture to your own. For example, they could eat almost double their size almost as if they have two stomachs. They also tend to not care much about their appearance. Except of course their beards and hair in general. They take care of it almost as if their life depended on it. One detail that definitely stood out to you were the different braids that decorated each of them. You remember once staring at Fili, while he undid his small beard braids just to redo them.
âHow come dwarves always have braids in their hair?â You once asked him. He smiled at you and continued weaving his fingers through his hair. âBraids are very important to us dwarves. Which is why we rarely let others touch our hair.â
Ever since that day you have noticed the intriguing designs and ways each of the dwarves intertwined their strands. Except for one. Kili was the only dwarf who seemed to be lacking any kind of braid and you have been wondering why that is. You also once asked Fili about it but he wouldnât answer you. Maybe he doesnât know how to braid? And he is too embarrassed to ask others for help? Observing Kili, who was laughing along his brother to some jokes, you quickly let that thought settle in your mind. He doesnât know how to braid and you were determined to change that.
So later that afternoon you bribed Fili to change his night shift with yours (which cost you a few of your travel snacks), in order to spend some time with Kili. You wanted to teach him how to braid and due to the fact that it is quite a sensitive topic to dwarves you wanted to make sure that nobody else would notice the two of you. So as soon as the sun set and the snores of your companions filled your ears, you made your way to Kili. He was perched upon a log which was behind the campfire that slowly burned down. His hands were carefully crafting something delicate, which you didnât quite see in the dark. âWhat are you working on?â You asked him, taking a seat beside him. His gaze swerved from the item between his fingers to you. A smile graced his lips.
âItâs a surprise.â He quickly put the item into a small pouch that was secured to his pants. âI thought Fili was supposed to be my night-watch-partner?â âHe was but I wanted to switch with him.â A smirk formed on his lips, before he put his arm around your shoulder, pulling you closer. âWell, in that case I will make sure that this will be the best night of your life.â Blushing at the double meaning behind his words, you tried to separate your body from his. Of course, not because you didnât enjoy him being so close to you, but because you were in desperate need of some cold air to cool you down and sort through your thoughts.
âI just wanted to ask you if I could braid your hair.â A dumbfounded expression accompanied by a gentle blush fell over his face. âI know you probably were just embarrassed to ask any of the others for help when it comes to braiding your hair and knowing that you donât know how to I just-â His laugh interrupted your rambling. âYou think I canât braid my hair?â You nod. â(Y/N), that is one thing we dwarves get born with. No dwarf in this world knows how not to braid hair.â âBut why do you never braid yours? Fili told me they were incredibly sacred and important in your culture.â A blush dusted his cheeks as he stared into the campfire.
âSimple. Nobody has asked to braid my hair before.â Your hand moved to his and gave him a reassuring squeeze. âBut I just asked to braid your hair. So please, let me take care of you.â He smiled at you and moved one leg over the log so his whole body was facing yours. You let your fingers comb through his soft hair a few times, before taking a strand and dividing it into three sections. Weaving your fingers through the wafts, you made sure to be gentle while also ensuring that there wonât be any bumps or strands sticking out of your small braid. After you have reached the end of his hair, you took out one of your slim leather straps and tied it at the end. Your gaze wandered from the braid to Kilis eyes and you realized how close the two of you have been this whole time. âThank you AmrĂąlimĂ©. You have no idea how much this means to me.â You let your gaze wander to your hands in your lap while a shy smile graced your face. âOf course. I am glad you like it.â Kili put his finger under your chin, forcing you to look at him. A bright smile framed his face. âNow it is your turn.â
The next morning the company as well as you quickly packed up their belongings to get back on their journey. While talking with Balin about some of the dwarvens history, you suddenly heard a gasp from behind you. âYou never told me about this Kili!â Fili held up a braid between them both. âWhen did this happen?â âLast night while you-â âWhat is going on back there?â Thorin asked, slowly approaching the princes. âKili finally got his braid! Probably by someone he seems enamoured with.â Fili teases, while letting go of his brotherâs hair. A blush dusted Kilis cheeks, as well as your own as the words settled in.
âWas about time they tied the knot.â Dwalin let out a boisterous laugh at Balins words. Tilting your head to the side, you moved your attention to Kili. âWhat does he mean by that?â â(Y/N) doesnât even know? You didnât even explain it?â Fili asked, flabbergasted at the newfound information. âI hadnât had the time yet.â Kili turned towards you and grabbed your hand, intertwining your fingers. âBut I will explain it to you when the time is right.â His radiant smile was enough reassurance for you. You will wait, until he is ready to explain the meaning behind the dwarvish braiding custom.

Kili Durin x Human!Soulmate!reader
Word Count: 1.8K
Thorin was getting worried, Kili had become somewhat of a ghost story over the past month. He had assumed that his nephew was simply doing his duty. Kili had volunteered to be the envoy between Dale and Erebor for the discussions of armament and training. However, that treaty was signed a week ago, and said envoy position was no longer needed. So why in all of Arda was Kili still going to Dale every day? The young prince left as soon as he was finished with his daily tasks and didnât return to the mountain until well after the sun had set. Thorin was not worried for his nephew's safety, after all, Kili was an excellent warrior and could take care of himself, no, Thorin was worried for Kiliâs heart.Â
Fili had also noticed his brotherâs absence but the blonde prince had always been a bit more perceptive than his surly uncle. Fili had noticed that Kili was missing, but he also noticed that every time he returned to the mountain it was with the most dopey grin that he had ever seen. A grin that he recognized, for it had also graced his face a few months ago when he met his beloved Alma. Fili would bet his beard on it, Kili was in love.
You on the other hand were getting more and more annoyed each time the brown-haired dwarf walked through the front door. He was charming sure, and polite. But he stared. At you. The whole time he was there. And he was there a lot. His attempts to engage you in conversation were far and few between, the few times he was able to grab your attention away from the bustling building he became tongue-tied the moment your eyes landed on his.
Kili didnât understand why he couldnât say more than a few words to you without choking on his words. Your eyes had to hold some kind of spell within them. They enchanted him and left him bewitched every time he caught their gaze. It left him frustrated, he had never had this much trouble with women before, why were you so different? Deep down he knew though, you werenât just any woman. He was afraid though, afraid that naming what you were to him out loud would make it real. And when it is real, it can hurt you.Â
There werenât very many stories on Oneâs where the love didnât end up requited, either because it just simply never happened. Dwarves were incredibly stubborn creatures after all, and it was entirely possible that they just wore down their other half until some sort of connection formed. It was also possible that those unfortunate few who werenât able to woo their other half died of broken hearts. The former was unlikely as Kili kept having to remind himself, he couldnât die of a broken heart. Right?
He was determined tonight though, to find out definitively if the sparks he felt for you were just interest in the handsome woman from Bree, or if you truly were the other half of his soul. To do that though he would need to say more than a few words to you. The problem with that was that you seemed exceptionally busy tonight.
Busy you were, Brant had told you last night that he was going to be leaving today to go to visit family for some type of emergency.Â
âIf the place is still standing when I get back, weâll talk more about it becoming yours someday.â He had said. You were hoping that that âsomedayâ was sooner rather than later. Brant was getting up there in years. Just last week he had hurt himself trying to lift one of the barrels of ale that had been shipped in from the Iron Hills. You had been taking on more and more of his old tasks and to be completely honest, it felt like you did the job of an owner anyway, just without all the benefits.
You werenât going to let the man down though, even if it did mean rushing back and forth all night trying to keep up with demand all by yourself.
âAnother! Y/N,â was yelled in front the back of the room. Roland was a boisterous man who got along with everyone, he was only a year or two older than you and was currently on his eighth pint of the night. He had a large countenance and seemed to fill up whatever space he occupied, he was handsome but the more and more he drank the less his looks mattered. Usually, this is the point in the night where he starts bordering more on unruly rather than fun-loving. Nevertheless, he was a paying customer and as long as he could still walk on his own out the doors, you werenât going to say no to his money.
You grabbed another pint glass and poured one for him, balancing it and several other drinks on a tray. You steeled yourself with a deep breath before running back out into the fray.Â
Walking close to the stool he was sat on you leaned slightly over him and placed his pint down on the counter beside him. He was engrossed in the conversation between the large group of men, something about the best way to skin a buck, you werenât really listening. As you grabbed his empty glass to take back to the kitchen to be washed, his large hand encircled your wrist none too gently.
âA pint is a wonderful thing, but it is even more delicious when served by a beautiful lady,â He whispered into your ear. You grit your teeth and roughly pull your hand back.Â
âNow, Roland, what have we said about touching things that donât belong to you? Huh? Touch the wrong thing and you might just lose your hand.â You spit back at him. Cutting your eyes up at the mounted swords that rest above the fireplace only a few steps from where the two of you are. âIâd hate to have to clean those swords, they are sharp.â You look back into his eyes, satisfied with the fear that you see within them. You stand back up and place your tray back upon your shoulder.Â
âAnything else I can get you gents?â You question the other men scattered about the space. Silence reigned over the air for a few moments.Â
âAlrighty then.âÂ
A pint here, a glass of wine there, and two hot meals delivered later, your tray was empty and everyone in the place seemed momentarily satisfied.Â
Letting out a breath you lean up against the counter.
âWhat did you say to him?â A somewhat familiar voice pipes up beside you. You turn your head towards the voice. It's the dwarf prince, and you are once again struck with just how handsome he is. You are also struck with the familiar feeling of annoyance, of course, he picked now to talk to you. Just when you had finally afforded yourself a break.
âHmm?â You raise a singular eyebrow at him. âWho?â
âThat large and very drunk man in the back, I couldnât hear what you said but I could see the look on his face. It was similar to my brotherâs when our mother would scold him for forgetting his manners.â
âThatâs not too far off actually, Roland over there got a little too comfortable and touched something that didnât belong to him, I had to remind him of the rules.â
âAnd what exactly did he touch that was so forbidden?â The prince smirks and laughs.
You smirk back and lift a glass to your lips before uttering one single word, âMe.â
All of the laughter drained from Kiliâs face, âHe touched you?â His voice had gotten much lower, his eyes darkened right before you.
You rolled your eyes. âIâm going to stop you right there Your Highness, I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself. Iâve been doing it for years. I donât need some man, no matter how handsome he is coming to defend my honor every time Iâm even remotely slighted. The trail of bodies will get far too long.â You stare into his eyes as you speak, putting all the righteous fury youâve got stored inside into each word.Â
Seconds tick by before he opens his mouth to speak again.
âYou think Iâm handsome?â
âI think that we have bigger problems if that is the only thing you got from that.â You took another sip.
âNo, no, no I got the point, you donât need a big strong man to come to your rescue. Lucky for you, I am not big.â
The laugh that sprung from the back of your throat caught you off guard, you slap a hand over your mouth in an impossible effort to catch it and shove it back inside. He was funny, he had never been funny before.
Kili liked your laugh even though it was closer to a snort than an actual laugh, and he would be foolish to ignore the way his heart picked up at the thought that he was the one who made you laugh.
âYou- I- I have never heard of a dwarf who makes fun of themselves, in my limited experience your lot are very prideful.â
âNot as prideful as some other races, I should think.â
âNo, youâre not nearly as prideful as the pointy-eared bastards who hole themselves up in that accursed forest.â Your words held a healthy amount of rage as well as teasing.
âI sense that there is a story there somewhere.â Kili raised an eyebrow, mimicking your face from earlier. He was desperately trying not to think about the fact that this was the longest conversation the two of you had had up to date.
âOne that Iâm going to need a lot more liquid courage before divulging, Iâm afraid.â
âWe can make that happen.â Kili wiggled his eyebrows and pointed at the bottles of liquor behind the bar that separated the two of you.
At that very moment, a shout from the rowdy bunch of men in the back rang out, calling for another round.
âDuty calls your highness, but perhaps I will tell you that story⊠another time.â You winked at him and grabbed for your tray again, beginning to load it up once more. If that is how conversations with the dwarf prince went all the time, you wouldnât mind having them more often. Â
You walked away before Kili could come up with a response, but he was more certain than he ever had been that your heart called to his. Why else would the very sight of you walking away feel like his heart was leaving too?

Lotr/the hobbit x druid!reader pt2
Ori x reader, Thorin x reader, Elrond x reader
Here is the >> part 1 << thank you so much for +500 likes/reblogs for that one! I hope you like this one too! ^^
Ori
𧞠You're the most beautiful being he has ever laid eyes on. At the start he would be too shy to approach you. So he will ask his friends about love and relationships, but also what they know about druids, which isn't so easy since druids arenât common at all (at least in my fanfictions).
𧞠Ori LOVES your animal forms, specially the ones with fur and he will ask you as nicely as he can master, if he can pet you in any of it's form.
âExcuse me y/n, if you ever would have the time to transform into any animal, would it be alright if i could pet you? Of course only if you would be fine with it and if it wouldn't make you uncomfortable?â
𧞠If you came with them on their journey to take back Erebor, Ori will tell you awkwardly and a bit shyly, that he doesn't mind holding you if you ever get tired of flying/walking.Â
𧞠He is going to try so hard for you! You are so strong, dependable and just so amazing to him. Ori is really looking up to you and he wants you to feel like you can depend on him too! He wants to protect you too, even if he isn't so strong, but he will train extra hard for you! You probably have to tell him once in a while that he is good enough or he will think he is unworthy of you.
Thorin
đ Doesn't believe Gandalf when he tells him that a druid will be supporting them in their journey.Â
âNobody I know has ever met a druid and hearing about them isn't often. I bet they are nothing but a mythâ.
đ When Thorin meets you he still doesn't believe you're a druid. Just probably an odd wizard/witch that is playing tricks on him. Until you transformâŠholy shit! Can wizards/witches do that?? He looks at Gandalf only to see him smirking.Â
đ It isn't your animal forms or element abilities that interest him, but the way you transform. The way your body bends and takes shapes after whatever you are supposed to transform to. The moment you change, the moment he has his eyes on you. It may be weird for you or him, but Thorin can't help it! It's so fascinating and it's like he is trying to figure out how you are doing it, but always fails.Â
đ Thorin has probably been looking at you a little too much during battles because the way you fight with your abilities makes you look so gorgeous. Which could leave him getting seriously injured if his teammates didn't watch his back.
âY/n stop distracting Thorin! Or he loses his focus and dies before making it to Erebor!â
âWhat!? I didn't do anything?!â
Thorin: âS-shut up!â
Elrond
đ He knows the moment he sees you, that you're a druid.Â
âIt was a long time ago I met a druid. Iâm glad to see there's still some more out thereâ.
đ Elrond will invite you over for dinner and have them serve you the best they can make. And heâll offer you a place to stay for a few days if you're not in a hurry somewhere else.
đ Elrond love's to watch you using your âmagicâ on flowers and plants. He loves to watch how you move your hands so gracefully and shape the plants the way you want it. It's so stunning every time!Â
đ The first time you showed him your powers. You'd asked Elrond about the beautiful flowers in his garden and if you could take some seeds with you. Elrond of course accepted and was about to go and get you the seeds but he stopped in his tracks and watched you move your hands around one of the flowers and give it enough energy to have it grow the seeds you needed. Elrond stood there speechless. That was something heâd never witnessed before and it was so magnificent.
âWould you like to have some other flower seeds as well?â
Thank you for reading! Have a good day! †Reblogs are very appreciated đ„°

Relationships: Thorin Oakenshield x Dwarf OFC (The Hobbit) Rating: G (subject to change) Warnings: ANGST Summary: Arranged marriages are common among the dwarven nobility. Thorin opened his eyes with a gasp. That cursed dream again. Those eyesâŠ
Several deep breaths helped to banish the haunting afterimages from his mind for good. Deep inside the Mountain â much deeper than the Royal Chambers â the mine bell struck eleven times. One hour before noon. It was later than he expected.
Thorinâs head was pounding, and the bitter aftertaste of rowanberry brandy in his mouth made him yearn for a mug of water. Slowly, he rose, noticing that he was not in his bed but in his armchair, still wearing some of yesterday's clothes. His finely embroidered undershirt and similarly adorned trousers â now crumpled. Parts of his wedding attire. His wedding.
He truly needed a drink.
The only thing he found in his chamber was an empty brandy bottle that lay forgotten on the floor. For a moment, Thorin wanted to ring for a servant, irritated at the fact that he slept so long â and his usual breakfast tray was nowhere to be seen. Had they overslept in the kitchens as well? What could have been so important that⊠Of course. His wedding.
He grunted. There was not going to be any breakfast tray and no servants. Not until he rang for them, at least. No one would disturb him in the morning after his wedding night. Frowning, Thorin managed to recall that a celebratory dinner was scheduled later that day â not only for the people of âUrdĂȘk, but also for the whole royal family and the family of the bride. His wife.
Thorin ran a hand down his face. He was a married Dwarf now. A husband. Years and years ago, in another lifetime, that thought would have made him enormously proud â and happy. And yet, on this very morning, the only thing he felt was that bitter taste in his mouth â and shame; his foolish dreams of youth long forgotten. The weight of a new braid in his hair, the marriage braid, was not a symbol of perfect, eternal love he had foolishly envisioned as a youth. This braid only denoted the contract between the two dwarven houses: the Longbeards and the Broadbeams.Â
A memory from the previous day appeared in his mind: pale, small, pale fingers nervously sliding through his hair, braiding a pattern that was unfamiliar to him. The personal pattern of the lady who now occupied the adjacent bedchamber â Lady Mista. The woman he had barely met and knew nothing of. His wife.
He should have felt something about this image, anything â sadness or perhaps the satisfaction of yet another duty he fulfilled as the King; hope or disenchantment. There was nothing â only a gaping hole deep inside him where his feelings should be. He stared with disappointment at the empty brandy bottle in his hand, and placed it on the table beside him with a clank.Â
Perhaps everything was as it should be. His was an arranged marriage, after all. The Kingdom Under the Mountain needed an heir to the throne. The future and prosperity of the realm depended on it. It was Thorinâs duty to fulfil, and time was of the essence. As the ancient scriptures stated, only the firstborn son of the firstborn son â of the current king â had the right to the throne of this realm. The Book of Law emphasised that it had to be the direct descendant of Durin â as the line remained unbroken since the beginning of time. If the direct line was to be lost, the next in line was the second son and his progeny. Thorin closed his eyes and Frerinâs kindred face appeared before him â and quickly disappeared. That future perished more than one hundred and forty years ago beneath the East Gate of Khazad-dĂ»m before it even had a chance to come to fruition. As for the other possibilities⊠they were just as painfully non-existent.
âIs there truly no legal way to name Fili or Kili as my heir apparent, Master Maldur?â Thorin crumpled a piece of parchment in his hand.
âI am afraid not, Sire.â The elderly scholar adjusted the emerald pince-nez on his nose. âThey are both the sons of a daughter of Durin.ââBesides, since Fili is married to Lady Fridvi of the Firebeards. According to the treaty between our houses, their firstborn child will rule in the Blue Mountains,â added Balin with an apologetic smile.
âAye. Even if itâs a daughter,â Thorin said and added, as if to himself, âI have always thought the Firebeards to be more sensible when it came to the laws of succession.ââYes, well, Your MajestyâŠâ Master Maldur cleared his throat in ill-disguised disapproval, shuffling some parchments in front of him. âThe Longbeard laws, however, clearly state that if no male heir is procured by the current king before his 200th birthday, the next Dwarf in line â albeit one who is not a direct descendant of Durin â would be the grandson of your Grandfatherâs brother, GrĂłr, the firstborn son of his firstborn son, Nain, yourâŠâ
âI do know the lineage of my cousin, Dain Ironfoot, quite well, thank you,â Thorin remarked curtly. Genealogy, lineages, and recounting endless familial connections always made him irritable.
âAnd hypothetically speaking, if your revered cousin was not there to claim the crown of the Kingdom Under the Mountain, may Mahal give him long life,â Maldur spoke in his hoarse voice that made Thorin think of crumbling stones, âthe next in line would be, of course, Lord Balin, the firstborn son of Fundin, the firstborn son of Farin, who, in turn, was the firstbornâŠâ
âThank you, Master Maldur.â Thorin nodded to him, having heard enough, and then turned to the firstborn son of Fundin. âBalin, how would you feel about becoming the next king?â
âI would rather not. Unless you and Dain plan to drink your way to the Halls of Awaiting together anytime soon?â Balin chuckled, shaking his head. âI have other plans, laddie, and besides, Iâm not getting any younger.â
âAnd yet your wit is as sharp as it was one hundred years ago,â Thorin offered him a half-smile.
âYour Majesty, may I take this opportunity to point out how crucial it is that a direct descendant of Durin sits on the throne of AzsĂąlul'abad?â The frown on Master Maldurâs forehead deepened. âAdditionally, the unfortunate discord between Your Majestyâs Grandfather and his brother, GrĂłr, is vividly remembered by your subjects. Sadly, because of this, Lord Dain is quite an unpopular personage here. Not a favourable position to be in for a prospective ruler. If such an event were to happen, of course.â
âOf course.â Thorin sighed. âAny more ideas, Balin? Lord Bori?â
Balin slowly shook his head.
âMay I remind you, Your Majesty, that we have received several offers of alliance through marriage?â said the white-haired chancellor, who â until that very moment â remained silent. Lord Bori always picked the perfect moment to strike.âVery well.â Thorin stood up, signalling that the meeting was adjourned. âIt seems that we have run out of heirs. Balin, would you be so kind as to discuss the matter with my sister? I entrust you both with choosing a suitable royal consort for the King Under the Mountain.â
A thud brought him out of his reverie. It came from the adjacent bedchamber. Thorin heard two distinct voices, although he could not quite make out the words. It must have been Lady Mista discussing something with her maid, he suspected. He clearly recognized the soft lilt of his spouseâs voice, so characteristic among the Broadbeams. Perhaps she was readying herself for the day, as he should as well. Thorin was about to ring for his servant when a resonant voice reached his ears despite the thick door between their rooms.
âWhy doesn't it surprise me, Mista?!â The voice was definitely feminine. âYou had one jobâŠâ âLet me explainâŠâ That was Lady Mista speaking. Thorin was able to recognize only one or two words.
âThere is nothing to explain!â The first voice returned. âIt was your wedding night, for Mahalâs sake! Couldnât you have made an effort? Just look at yourself! For once in your lifeâŠâ
âMother, you donât understand, IâŠâ Lady Mistaâs words trailed off. She sounded tense.
The pounding in Thorinâs head intensified. He glared at the door.
âHave you forgotten how hard your father and your uncle worked to achieve this?! Is that how you repay your family, Mista? By ruining everything? On the very first night?â
Without thinking, Thorin placed his hand on the door handle and pressed. He had heard enough.
âWhat is the meaning of this?!â he demanded.
In the silence that filled the room, just after he stepped into Lady Mistaâs bedchamber, he saw Lady Mista sitting in her bed. Her face was as pale as the bed linen, her eyes wide, and her quilt pulled up to her chin. She looked at him as if she wanted to disappear underneath it. With her hair tousled and her slightly skewed spectacles, she looked more like a defenceless young maid than an adult Dwarf-woman.
Next to her bed stood a corpulent red-haired matron in a fashionable green-and-gold gown, her hair immaculately dressed, her neck and wrists adorned with elegant jewellery, her fisted hands resting against her hips.
âYour Majesty.â The matron executed a customary curtsy, offering him a sweet but artificial smile. âWhat an honour to see you in my daughterâs bedchamber. I believeâŠâ âLady Milva.â He gave her a curt nod of recognition and graced her with a cold stare. âYou will have to forgive me, madam, but I do not intend to reciprocate. I, for one, cannot understand why you would choose this particular time to visit Her Majesty the Queen.â
âAh, but Your Majesty would surely understand that I wanted to see to my daughterâs comfort on the very first day of her rule.â Her smile widened.
âDo you wish to imply that I am incapable of such a feat, madam?â Thorin hissed.
âOh no, Your Majesty, not at all!â The matron attempted a giggle. âOn the contrary, I believe it is my daughter who failed to see to your comfort.â
Thorinâs head seemed to be pounding even more than before.
âMother, pleaseâŠâ He heard Lady Mistaâs strained voice behind him.
âEnough, Mista, you should be apologising to His Majesty for disappointing him!â Lady Milva turned to her daughter and Thorin decided that he had heard enough.
âMy lady, you are disturbing me and my spouse in our private chambers. Only because you are my wedded wifeâs mother, My Lady, I am going to ask you kindly.â Thorin hissed. âLeave now.â
Silence filled the chamber for several heartbeats. Lady Milvaâs gaze moved between her daughter and Thorin before she spoke again.Â
âVery well, Your Majesty,â she replied stiffly, abandoning her insincere manner. âMista, I will return later, to prepare you for dinner.â
âIs that what you wish, My Lady?â Thorin turned to Mista.
âI⊠Thank you, Mother,â Lady Mistaâs words were a mere whisper as she clutched the quilt, âbut I think I will manage on my own this time.â
Her mother stood there for a moment longer, her brow furrowed, and then she replied, âIf that is what you wish.â
She made another curtsy to Thorin, and then, in a swift flurry of her opulent gown, she stormed out of the bedchamber.
âForgive me, My Lord, have we woken you up?â The bedclothes rustled, making Thorin gaze at Lady Mista â the woman he wed yesterday. As she left the bed, he caught a glimpse of her bare feet, so much smaller than his, and so dainty. Her sleeping gown flowed elegantly down her body, hugging her figure and revealing patches of smooth skin that only a husband was allowed to see. Quickly, he looked away. He did not feel like one.
âI was already awake,â he offered, glancing around the chamber. âHave you broken your fast yet, My Lady?â
âNo, My Lord,â she replied. âIâm afraid I lost track of time. I was reading.â
Thorin followed her gaze to the thick tome that lay open on the bed. It looked like something from the Royal Library of Erebor, but he did not recognize the cover.
âIâll ring for breakfast for you then. You must be famished,â he offered.Â
âThank you, thatâs very kind of you,â Lady Mista replied, her words barely audible, like the chirping of a frightened little bird. âWould you⊠would you like to join me?â
Thorin shook his head decidedly.Â
âI am expected elsewhere. The meeting of the Guildmasters is going to be held quite soon,â he was amazed at how easily this half-truth slipped out of his mouth. That meeting was on his general agenda, but no one expected him to join it, not so soon after his wedding.
âOh, I see,â Lady Mistaâs voice wavered, but she continued after a pause. âIn that case, allow me, My Lord, to thank you for your⊠intervention. My Mother can be tempestuous at times, but she means well.â
âForgive me, My Lady, but her behaviour was out of place,â he said, attempting to ignore the insistent pounding in his head. âYou are not only her daughter but â first and foremost â the Queen. No one is allowed to treat you so, no matter the circumstances. No one. Not even her.â
Thorin took a deep breath in order to rein in his temper. He was abrupt, his words far from courteous, but his patience was wearing thin. The last thing he was willing to endure was a lady on the verge of tears, bullied by her own kin. A half-forgotten memory surfaced in his mind: those sobs, that lavish but abhorred wedding dress, and his sisterâs words: âYou canât help it, nadad. This is womenâs lot in life.âÂ
This time, unlike that other time, Thorin could help it â and so he did. That was the least he was able to do for this terrified woman. His wife.
He did not find the strength to look into her face once more and see those glossed-over eyes and those trembling lips. Instead, he excused himself under the pretence of procuring breakfast and left her bedchamber.
He found his reward in the form of a full jug of water in the adjacent parlour. Quenching his thirst, he rang for a servant. Katla, Lady Mistaâs new maid, arrived soon after. She was one of the maids who worked for their family when they lived in the Blue Mountains. Now, however, Dis decided that Katla was exactly the person Lady Mista would need. The girl was unusually agitated, and as soon as Thorin asked about Lady Milvaâs presence in the Queenâs bedchamber, her countenance wavered.Â
âForgive me, mâlord,â she curtseyed, her gaze lowered reverently. âI had no means to stop Her Ladyship, I asked her not to disturb Your Majesties, but she said that she was the Queenâs mother and the Queen would dismiss me right away if Her Ladyship was not allowed to enter, and I thoughtâŠâ
âThank you, Katla, I understand,â he said. âYou are not going to be dismissed. However, Her Majesty does not need such disturbances. Should someone attempt to storm into Her Majestyâs private chambers without her consent again, do not hesitate to call the guards.â
âOf course, mâlord,â Katla nodded stiffly. âAnd⊠Thank you. For not dismissing me.â
âMy Mother, the Dowager Queen, always spoke highly of you. Now, I need you to take care of the new Queen in a similar manner. This is her new home, and we need to make her feel like it. Can I rely on you?â
âAlways, mâlord.â A hopeful smile appeared on her face. âDoes the Queen need anything now, mâlord?â
âShe is requesting a hearty breakfast,â he ordered.
âIâll be right back with her tray! Shall I bring one for you as well, mâlord?â
âNo, thank you. I have matters to attend to.â
With these words, Thorin directed his steps to the Royal Baths. Hot water and steam were exactly what he needed at that very moment. A sizable pile of documents waited for him on his desk, but he needed to clear his head first.
***
âHere you are, nadad! Iâve been looking all over for you!â Disâ voice made him raise his gaze from a parchment.
âWhere else should I be?â Thorin tilted his head, observing his sister as she approached his desk. There was only a handful of braids in her modest hairdo â her wavy strands as dark as his own â and she wore a simple day dress. Yet, Dis looked more elegant than many other ladies in their finest gowns. She inherited her noble bearing and facial features from their paternal grandmother, after all.
âWhere should you be? Let me seeâŠâ she tapped her mouth with her index finger and then asked innocently. âPerhaps with your wife?â
Thorin cursed inwardly. Dis inherited their grandmotherâs wit, too.
âIf only those trade licences could somehow sign themselvesâŠâ he grunted.
âAnd while you are drowning in parchments, your newly-wed wife is halfway through the second volume of The Golden Age of AzsĂąlul'abad,â she grunted back.
âThe second volume?â Thorinâs eyebrow rose as he recalled the size of that monstrous twelve-volume work. He never managed to make it past the first one.
âYes. Apparently, Mista finished the first one during lunch. Which she ate alone.â Dis folded her arms on her chest. It had never been a good sign when Grandmother Birgit folded her arms like that.
âI ate my lunch alone as well.â He pointed at a plate with a forgotten piece of dark bread left, half-covered by a couple of documents.
âOn the first day of your marriage,â Dis retorted.
âThese licences are vital forâŠâ
âThorinâŠâ His sister rolled her eyes.
âDisâŠâ He sighed. âYou know what I mean.â
âSome things need time,â he heard himself say.
âI know, Thorin,â Dis stepped to him, placing her hand on his forearm. âOf all the people in the world⊠I know.â
âAt least you knew Vili before your wedding,â Thorin put his quill aside.
âVaguely. While you managed to spend a whole evening with Mista in Tumunzahar.â
âWhich apparently happened a long time ago â and of which I remember nothing.â He admitted with a frown and then drummed his fingers on the desk. âNanâith, I may have made an utter fool of myself yesterday.â
Dis sat heavily on a chair beside him, âLet me hear it.â
âLady Mista was convinced that I remembered meeting her at a feast. Apparently, we danced and talked, and she expected me toâŠâ He sighed. âI donât know. The problem is that instead of playing along with it, I told her that I did not remember it at all.â
âNadad, I have always admired your disarming honesty, butâŠâ Dis paused and then grinned. âWell, it looks like you have figured it out yourself. You are an utter fool.â
When she elbowed him, as if they were smooth-cheeked youths again, Thorin simply had to elbow her back.
âThank you, dearest sister. I know I could count on you.â He let out a lukewarm chuckle.
âHow did she take it? Is that why you are hiding in here?â Thorin shook his head, âLady Mista did not seem offended. Iâd say she was perhaps⊠surprised? Disappointed?â
âI would be too if my future husband first sent me a letter in which he spoke fondly of our meeting years ago and then admitted to not remembering it at all,â Dis waved her hand in despair.
âA letter?â Thorinâs frown deepened.
âThe letter. Donât tell me you havenât read it.â A frown appeared on her face as well. âBalin and I spent half a day composing it before it was sent along with the marriage contract.â
âFor which I am very thankful. I have no head for this sort of letters, as you know.â âThat was precisely why you were supposed to read it before it was sealed, Thorin.â She rolled her eyes.
âI knew I could trust you with its contents. Dis, we were rebuilding the Forges at that time! I barely had time to eat or sleep; that letter was hardly on top of my agenda.âÂ
His sister let out a long sigh.
âIt is not me you should explain yourself to. What happened, happened. Tell me, do you truly not remember anything from that meeting?â
âThis was one of many feasts I was obligated to appear at. Amicable relations with our allies, and all that,â he offered.
âWe were there together, you know.â
âWere we?â Thorin searched his memory. To no avail. All those feasts seemed like a blur in his mind.
âBalin was there, too. And Dwalin, I think.â Dis added. âAnd Mother. She wore that emerald green gown.â
He tried once more. Still nothing.
âThere was lots of food, lots of political scheming⊠Oh, and there were quite a few mothers flaunting their offspring at me and you. Mostly at you, the Crown Prince,â she snickered.
âYou have just described most of the feasts I have attended in the past.â He ran a hand over his face. âEvery time I felt like game during hunting season. Did I really spend the whole evening with Lady Mista?â
âQuite a bit of it.â Dis nodded. âYou were seated next to a matron who insisted on making you dance with each of her daughters â I think she had two or three of them â and then you did what you usually used to do. You disappeared. When you returned, Mista was with you already, and then you danced. That matron, together with her cronies, was of course appalled, because you never even looked at anyone else. And Mista was not even formally out, she was maybe a few years over half battle-age at that time!â
âIt seems that I scandalised the matrons of Tumunzahar and nearly robbed a cradle. What an achievement. And I cannot even remember it.â Thorin smiled wryly, although an image or two flickered before his eyes. A handkerchief with his monogram in a lithe hand. Grey-brown hair adorned with pearls.
âAt least no one bothered you afterwards,â she put her hand on his shoulder and looked him in the eyes. âNow, I hope you find a way to make amends with your wife, nadad.â
Thorin gave her a nod, âYou and me both. I simply do not have the slightest idea how to talk to her. I feel as if she is afraid of me.â
âWe both know that you are not the greatest charmer when it comes to the matters of the heart,â she offered him a smirk. âAnd neither am I. I can only tell you what Mother told me once. Marriage is like the endless forging of a sword. If you want to make a great blade, you have to keep the fire going, and work the metal every single day. Draw it, shape it, and then keep on tempering it so that it never breaks.â
âShe knew her way around the forge,â Thorin admitted fondly. He liked to think that he inherited his bladesmithing skills from their Mother.
âShe knew how to deal with Father, too. I took her words to heart, and it worked for me â for us. Vili and meâŠâ Dis cleared her throat. âWe had nothing in common â or so I thought at first.âÂ
A sad smile softened her features, and Thorin covered her hand with his.Â
âHe was even younger than me,â she continued, âso rowdy and boisterous, and talked only of mountain goat races and throwing knives. Remember how terrified I was when I had to braid his hair?â
âYou? Terrified? You were as decorous as Grandma Birgit would,â he said.
âThat was because I knew Grandma Birgit would have been appalled if I fainted halfway through the ceremony. You cannot believe how mortified I was before the wedding night!â His sister chuckled.
âYou asked me for two pints of the strongest malt beer we had,â Thorin offered lightly. It was good to see her smile.
âI only wanted to take the edge off things!â Dis grinned. âHow was I supposed to know you spiked it with Dwalinâs horrible brandy?â
âYou weren't. And you and Vili were supposed to drink them together. How should I know he would down them both at once?â He shrugged as if he had not seen it coming.
âI think I was the first bride in the history of Arda who spent her wedding night listening to her new husbandâs loud snores.â
âYou should talk with Bomburâs Ronja,â he quipped.
âNadad! I shall not discuss their wedding night with her!â Dis feigned outrage only to burst out in laughter.
âBe glad that you did not hear his snores during the Quest. Every. Single. Night. He even made us think a storm was coming! And once, in the MistiesâŠâ It was so easy to fall back on the anecdotes from the past, and Thorin was awarded with another bout of laughter. Since Dis arrived back to the Mountain â their home â for the first time in years, it was easy to make her smile. There was a new spark in her eyes too, one that Thorin saw in countless eyes these days. A glint of hope for their reclaimed homeland they were rebuilding â and for their future. Was the same glint present in Lady Mistaâs eyes last night? He could not say.
âThank youâ, Dis startled him, pecking him on his cheek.
âFor what?â He met her eyes.
âFor many things⊠like not terrifying your bride too much.â
Thorin swallowed, âWhat do you mean?â
âYou know how you can be sometimes.â Dis patted his hand.
âAre you going to tell me once more that I scare others away with my âbroodingâ, or whatever you call it?â He rose from his chair and looked down at her.
âNot at all! Brooding is not as loud as snoring.â Tilting her head up, she winked at him. âDo you know you sometimes come off as quite intimidating?â
âI have never heard of such a notion,â Thorin let his lip curl up. âEspecially from you.â
âWhat about that agreement you managed to hammer out last week with those stubborn donkeys, the Guildmasters?â Thorin knew better than to offer a reply.
âI heard your voice all the way to the warehouses! And when the Masters left the council chamber, they were meek as lambs, even the fiery Master Karg!â
âI simply reminded them that the world did not revolve around their coin pouches. Loudly.â
âI am glad you made use of it this morning.â
âYou heard about what happened,â Of course. His sister had a knack for knowing things that did not happen in her presence.
âA word or two.â âLady Mistaâs mother needed to be put in her place,â Thorin quickly recounted his confrontation with Lady Milva.Â
When he finished, Dis pressed her lips in a thin line.
âWhat a viper,â she huffed. âNow I know why Mista looked so shaken today. But we are in luck. The whole Broadbeam delegation is leaving in a week or so. We will manage.â
âWe have managed worse.â He finished the thought, their private saying, one that they used since the vile Smaug ravaged their kingdom. Last time they spoke it happened just before the Quest to reclaim their homeland. Now, both the current circumstances and stakes felt vastly different, and Thorin could not help but wonder â would he manage?
âI must say you did wonders with the Queenâs bedchamber in such a short time.â Thorin admitted in a hasty attempt to change the subject. âIt looks quite⊠comfortable. Especially with that tapestry from Grandmotherâs chambers. And to think it survived Smaug almost untouchedâŠâ
âOh, so you did spend some time with Mista after all?â Dis raised an eyebrow, her eyes twinkling. âWere there two pints of malt beer involved or not? Donât you make that face at me, nadad! This was your wedding night and everyone will jest about it, whether you like it or not!â
Sadly, she was right.
***
Disâ prophetic words proved true in the evening at the celebratory dinner. It was held in the largest cavern under the Mountain, the Great Hall. It was as tall as several levels of the Dwarven kingdom, making it easy for people to freely join and leave the festivities, catch a glimpse of the royal family or listen to the music while feasting in their local quarters. Thorin remembered that this natural formation in the depths of the Mountain was where all the largest festivities happened when his Grandfather, King ThrĂłr, ruled. He himself did not expect to celebrate his royal wedding in these legendary chambers as well. After all, marriage had not been a part of his plans for the future.
Upon entering the Great Hall, it was difficult not to notice all the lavish adornments he remembered from the day before, countless tables filled anew with various dishes, lanterns and candles that cast their golden glow on the walls, brightening everyoneâs faces â and the fact that all the eyes were now set on Thorin and his new royal consort. They were both clad in matching attires made especially for this occasion; every detail, pattern, and jewel on those black, silver, and gold garments was supposed to symbolise the imperishable beauty and opulence of the Kingdom Under the Mountain. Judging by the reactions of his subjects, the newly-wed royal couple made a favourable impression on them.Â
Casting a sidelong glance at Lady Mista, Thorin expected to see the joyful or perhaps even triumphant smile of a new queen. Instead, he noticed the strained lines of her face, the paleness of her cheeks, and her bespectacled gaze set somewhere above the heads of the guests. Only the crown over her temples softened the solemn impression somewhat and lent her a regal air. Lady Mistaâs palm rested stiffly on his forearm as Thorin led her through the chamber towards the royal table. He could feel how stiff her muscles were, as if she was a wooden doll controlled by an invisible puppeteer.
Thorin made an effort not to look at Lady Mistaâs kin, who had already gathered at their side of the royal table. After what he experienced with the members of this family so far, it was not at all difficult to infer what face â or rather, faces â that puppeteer bore.Â
That poor, terrified girl. His wife. The new Queen Under the Mountain.
âOur people are curious about you, My Lady,â he whispered just as they walked onto the stone dais where the royal table was placed.
âOh?â Quickly, she turned towards him, her eyes wide. âAbout me?â
âThey do not know you yet, and many of them are wondering what they can expect of you, their new ZabdĂ»na,â he murmured, leaning slightly closer to her.
âOf⊠of course I will do my best to care for them,â she lowered her gaze and a blush darkened her cheeks. Then she added, âThere is no Kingdom without its people.â
The last time Thorin heard those words, he was barely a youth, and his days were filled with endless studies and training. One of his Grandfatherâs sayings â words of Dagur Sture, an ancient philosopher from Khazad-dĂ»m â spoken in the trembling voice of a Broadbeam lady from the distant Khagal'abbad, the Blue Mountains.Â
âIndeed,â he said, shaking off the surprise as they both turned towards the guests, an endless sea of faces before them . âPray, show it to them, My Lady.â
âBut how?â Lady Mista blinked, adjusting her spectacles on her nose. âI do not know what to doâŠâ
âSimply greeting them will be enough,â Thorin attempted to say these words with an encouraging smile. âAcknowledge your new subjects.â
Lady Mista nodded slightly and swallowed, lifting her gaze upon the crowd. He felt her right hand tighten on his forearm, but then her left hand rose into the air, and she waved to the gathered crowd. An avalanche of cheers went through the cavern; some of the guests responded to her greeting in turn, their faces brightening.
Thorin chose this moment to greet the gathered Dwarves in the same fashion, enhancing their jubilation even further. All it took was a wave. A simple trick his Grandfather taught him a lifetime ago, but one that never failed.
When he glanced at Lady Mistaâs face again, there was a new glint in her eyes and a timid smile on her lips as she took in the enthusiastic response to her gesture.
âThey like you already, My Lady,â he whispered, nodding to her in approval and seeing her features finally soften when her lips curled up slightly. A welcome change, he thought. People needed to see their rulers glad, especially on such an occasion. Appearances mattered more than oneâs true feelings; he had learned that bitter lesson well.
After the customary welcoming speech â Thorin somehow managed to keep it short â he led Lady Mista to their chairs at the centre of the table, and then the feast began. Soon, he found himself in a lively conversation with GlĂłin, Dwalin and Lord Taran, Lady Mistaâs uncle, discussing the strategy applied in the siege of an Orc stronghold that happened during the Great War. Various pieces of golden tableware turned into numerous units of dwarven troops, a nearby platter with fruit acted as a mountain range, the octagonal brass salt cellar became the stronghold, and leftover pheasant bones served as Orcs.
âWhat a battle it was! We hadnât slept for three days in a row!â GlĂłin announced as the culinary re-enactment of the battle came to an end. âWhen we were done with the Orc scum, Thorin looked every bit as tired as he looks now after one night with his bride!â
Thorin grunted.
âAye, he does, but can ye imagine his state after three nights of storming her stronghold?â Dwalin roared with laughter.
Thorin glowered at his friend, who, in response, laughed even harder.
âWith such a meek lass like our Mista, he doesnât have much storming to do!â Lord Taran bellowed, the tattoos on his cheeks stretching in a wide grin.
Thorin clenched his fist.Â
Dis threw him a meaningful glance from across the table. We will manage. Mahal, give him strength. Casting a fleeting look at Lady Mista, Thorin saw that she was deeply immersed in a conversation with Balin, who at that very moment patted her on her hand.
âMay Your Majesty strike a gold vein quickly so we have a new reason to celebrate soon, a naming ceremony!â Lord Tair, the new Queenâs father, raised his goblet, meeting Thorinâs gaze. âMay Mahal bless this union with many children!â
Other cups shot into the air, and the toast echoed across the hall, countless eyes set on the royal couple. Thorin gritted his teeth. This was not a purely well-meant wish, not in Tairâs mouth. The Broadbeam lord, who negotiated the marriage contract himself, alluded to its crucial clause: children from this union meant prosperity for both of their houses. On the other hand, no offspring by Thorinâs 200th birthday meant the dissolution of the marriage, the end of the vastly profitable trade agreements for the Broadbeams, and the end of the direct line of Durin for the Longbeards â and Thorin. The stakes were high for both houses.
Decidedly, Thorin grasped his own goblet and returned the gesture. A quick glance to his left told him that Lady Mista followed his lead, her fingers stiffly holding her gobletâs stem. He felt her eyes on him, but he found himself unable to reciprocate her gaze.
Another toast came after the first. This time, it was Dis wishing the newly-wed couple a long and happy marriage. A couple of toasts full of platitudes followed, and when everyone in the Great Hall drank their fill, conversations returned. Thorinâs sister was talking with Lady Mista now; he thought he heard them speak of a library when a sonorous voice reached his ears.
âSuch a match happens once in a lifetime, Lord Balin, wouldnât you say?â Lady Mistaâs mother gave the older Dwarf a charming smile.
âAs you say, Lady Milva. And it is a prosperous one, too,â Balin nodded with a twinkle in his eye.
âI am truly overjoyed that I had this idea! I told my husband: âRemember that winter feast we had in Tumunzahar, love? The one when Prince Thorin â for His Majesty was merely a prince then â danced only with my dear Mista?â He only had eyes for her that night! So many mothers had fits of jealousy, because he did not even spare a glance for any of their daughters!â Lady Milva chuckled.
âThat must have been quite an event,â Balin admitted.Â
Thorin gritted his teeth, acutely feeling the weight of his crown on his head â and the eyes of his subjects on him. Instead of addressing a few curt words to Lady Mistaâs mother, he took a large gulp of wine.
âSo it was, Lord Balin, so it was! If you only had been there to see it!â She dabbed an invisible tear from her eye. âThey danced, and danced, and afterwards my sweet daughter would sigh, and dream away, and ask if Prince Thorin would attend the next feast! So when the Lonely Mountain was finally reclaimed, I told my husband: âMy love, if you are not going to send that marriage proposal to King Thorin, I am going to take her to AzsĂąlul'abad myself!â. And do you know what he said?â
Thorinâs old mentor declared, âI have not the slightest idea, My Lady.âÂ
Neither had Thorin. He refilled his goblet. Beside him, Dis asked Lady Mista a question he did not quite hear, but she received no answer. Lady Milvaâs daughter, the new ZabdĂ»na undu âUrd, sat unmoving, staring at her empty plate, her lips pressed into a thin line, while her relentless mother kept on talking.Â
âWell, my dear Tair said âNo need to do that, my dearest, for I have already sent the proposal!â. I swear, we act and think as one, is it not so, my lord husband?â Lady Milva turned to her spouse and loudly pecked his cheek.
âYou speak the truth, my dove,â her husband replied, running his hand down his thick silver beard braid with clear contentment. âIt was a great honour that His Majesty agreed to our offer this time!â
âOh, hush, my gem, no need to bring that up, it happened such a long time ago,â Lady Milva waved her hand. âIt is of no consequence now.â
âMay I ask what you mean, My Lady?â Ăin put his fork aside and brought his hearing trumpet to his ear. âIs there another layer to this charming love story?â
âIndeed, there is! I can tell you in confidence,â Lady Milva clapped her hands, leaning towards Ăin, although Thorin noticed that she did not bother to lower her voice, âthat we sent a marriage proposal to ThorinuldĂ»m a few years later, but we were informed that King Thorin was not interested. I must admit that we made a grave error that day! You see, dear Lord Ăin, we offered the hand of our daughter Adla in marriage instead of Mista! Therefore, it was not at all surprising that His Majesty was not interested. She was simply not the right daughter! The whole Blue Mountains wondered why he would not marry our Adla â for you must know that she is considered one of the greatest beauties of our clan â nor any other lady for one hundred years!â
âA true mystery indeed,â Ăin agreed with a chuckle.
Thorin glared into his goblet. It was not a mystery to him. He clearly remembered the day the first proposal arrived. This missive from Tumunzahar came together with another letter from Gabilgathol, the city of the Firebeard Dwarves. The city he vowed never to return to. The memories he buried on the bottom of his mind, never to revisit. The eyes he would never look into again.
â...so when we sent our second offer,â Lady Milva placed her goblet on the table with a loud thud, âthe answer came swiftly. And now â just look at these two, My Lord, and tell me this was not a match carved in stone.â
âMay Mahal grant them happiness!â Ăin said, lifting his goblet.
Lady Milva did the same, stood up and added loudly, âLet us drink for their long-awaited reunion! Will our royal lovebirds sweeten the toast with a kiss?â
âA kiss! A kiss!â Several voices from among the guests were heard at first, and then more and more of them joined in the chant. âKing and Queen! King and Queen!â
What a viper, Thorin cursed inwardly. So that was her revenge. He should have seen it coming. At that moment, he could no longer pretend that he had not heard Lady Milvaâs words. Neither had Lady Mista. Their gazes met; her spectacles slid slightly down her nose, uncovering a pair of brown eyes â wide open and terrified.
Thorin leaned towards her, whispering into her ear in order to be heard despite the continuous chanting.
âForgive me, Lady Mista. This is not how IâŠâ He paused, searching for the right words that did not seem to come. âI am afraid that we may need to make a little spectacle of ourselves, if you do not mind.â
âKiss! Kiss!â The chanting grew louder, just like Lady Milvaâs vicious smile, as people started clapping their hands, stamping their feet, and banging their goblets against the tables.
âI understand. I apologise for my mother.â She signed discreetly in IglishmĂȘk. Her fingers trembled when she added, âLet us turn it to our advantage and give our people the fairy tale they expect.â
Our people.
âVery well,â Thorin signed back, offering her his hand, palm up, and trying to empty his mind of all the importunate thoughts. With everyone in the Great Hall staring at them expectantly, they had to do it. There was no other way. Lady Mista took his hand, and it seemed to him that in that very moment, a spark of understanding passed between them. This was something they had to do together, something they were expected to do as the King and Queen Under the Mountain. A duty. Nothing more.
âKiss! Kiss! Kiss!â The guests continued to chant.
Thorin stood up, waiting for Lady Mista to gather her skirts and do the same. A moment later, they stood, arm in arm, before the gathered crowd, their hands joined. The continuous chanting echoed against the ceiling of the Great Hall when he turned to face her. Their gazes met; in the candlelight, her eyes looked like molten amber. The new Queen nodded almost imperceptibly, her fine hand gave his a little squeeze, and he could not stall any longer. Thorin lowered his face towards her and his nose bumped against hers, so he tilted his head further, mindful of her spectacles, and let his lips gently brush against hers.Â
Her breath hitched, and he carefully moved to press his lips against hers, and she must have stood up on her tiptoes because he met the softness of her lips much sooner than expected, and she smelled, or perhaps tasted, like an apple orchard, sweet and innocent, andâ
An enthusiastic storm of cheers washed over the Mountain, drowning all the importunate thoughts of his for a long while.
To be continued...

The only one
âKili, you canât tell anyone about this.â âSo itâs our dirty little secret then?â
Paring: Kili Durin x afab reader
Genre: romantic smut
Word count: 2.2k
Summary: Youâre Bilbo's adopted human daughter and he takes you along on the journey. Kili has his heart set on you and after getting involved in the fight he gets angry with you for putting yourself in a dangerous situation.
Warnings: public sex, arguing, jealous Kili, hickeys, p in v sex, hickeys??? Idk what else I always forget
a/n: I did not proofread and its lowkey a summary of the first movie? This is my first smut regarding anyone in the tolkien universe but I did write some sad fluff at some point lmao. Anyways, please like and send any requests if you want <3 tags go absolutely wild
Youâve been an adopted hobbit for the last 18 years of your life, Bilbo was always comforted in the known so when he brought you along with him and the dwarfs on their journey you were beyond surprised. Your presence was unexpected for everyone, except Gandalf of course, and most of the company was against your involvement. The dwarves saw you as frail and weak, the only one on your side was your dad, but of course he was.
Kili has kept an eye out for you since you joined the company, he makes sure you're safe and also just enjoys looking at you.
__________
When Elrond and his fellow elves come back the dwarves pull you and your father behind them and create a circle around you. You stay behind your Bilbo as the elves talk with Gandalf.
Upon your entrance to their dining room you look around with wonder, you sit down between Kili and your dad. âThey're so beautiful,â you whisper to Bilbo, he nods with a gentle but awkward smile. Kiliâs ears twitch as he looks around, his eyes narrow on an elf who has his eyes on you, he moves closer to you wrapping his arm around you.
âYou think so?â Kili questions, his jaw clenching slightly, âI think us dwarves are better looking, stronger too.â he says pridefully, you chuckle in response.
âIs it a competition now?â you cock your head, âYouâre very good looking too, Kili.â he smiles wide.
âIs that so? I am the best looking of all of the company, aside from Thorin of course.â you laugh, putting your hand on his arm.
âA bit full of yourself huh?â he shoves your shoulder gently in response. Kilis arms finds its way around your waist as he continues to glare at the elf who dared to look at you, who did he even think he was.
Gandalf, Bilbo, and Thorin wander off with Lord Elrond, leaving you with the dwarfs. You watch quietly, laughing with them and listening to their conversations before you feel yourself drifting off to sleep. Kili quietly sits next to you letting your head fall to his shoulder he smiles, covering you up with a blanket.
__________
After the company left the palace Thorin led everyone to the Misty Mountains, Kili keeps you in front of him. He insists that itâs better that way so if you fall he can catch you. As the rain picks up your feet slip under you, Kili and Fili grasp your arms quickly, pulling you back onto the ledge.
âThank you,â you say softly as your eyes look over the ledge. Kili keeps a hold of your arm tightly as you all try to avoid the stone giant's blasts. The ground splits under your feet as the mountain takes shape as a giant, you grab onto the stone behind you before everyone begins to slide forward.
The stone giant slams into the mountain, throwing everyone off of it and onto the ground. Thorin yells for his nephews as the rest of the company runs over, Kili helps you up dusting your clothes off and checking to make sure you werenât hurt anywhere.
After all the commotion everyone settles into the cave, Bilbo pulls you off to the side and quietly talks to you, he tells you about his plan to leave once everyone is asleep. âWhy dad? What's wrong?â you whisper to him.
âThorin is right, we never should've left home, Iâve put you in danger and I canât let anything else happen to you.â he sighs as he runs his hand through your hair, âItâs okay, weâll be fine.â he smiles reassuringly.
You both gather all of your stuff and sneak out, he leads you by the hand. He pulls you behind him as he talks with Bofur, you stay quiet looking around the cave. You didnât really want to leave the company, I mean they were becoming your friends, you enjoyed the company.
âY/N?â Kili mumbles as he looks up at you, he yawns. âWhere are you going?â You crouch down putting your hand on his shoulder.
âGo back to sleep Kili, you need your rest,â you smile sweetly.
The floor splits and you slip down with everyone, Bilbo gets away but you are guided off with the dwarves. Your eyes fill with terror as you look around, you take a hold of Kilis hand squeezing tight as the goblins push you all around. You cower behind him, holding onto his shirt tightly.
Once you get out the dwarves all argue over where your dad went, your head drops as you think that your dad couldn't possibly have left you all alone. He reappears and you rush over to hug him, his hands drop to your waist as he smiles.
âY/N!â Kili and Bilbo yell at you as you try to defend the dwarves with your small blade; it goes into the center of the wargs head, and Kili grabs you and pulls you up to the tree with him. His hand wrapping around your waist as he holds you close.
âDonât move,â Kiliâs voice is angry as he demands you to stay put. His hands dig into your slides as you look below your feet. Kiliâs hands slip away as they start to throw the pinecones, the tree begins to fall, you grasp onto the trunk as tight as you can. His hands wrap around the tree, his eyes focused on you.
As Thorin and your father begin to fight the orcs, your eyes squeeze shut tightly, you try to focus on anything but the attack of Thorin. Kili pulls you up and onto the ground, insisting you stay put as they go to fight. You look forward, clutching the blade you retrieved from the corpse tight. As all of the commotion ensues you feel yourself being picked up by an eagle.
Once you all are in a safe place you watch as Gandalf helps heal Thorin. You stand next to your dad, holding onto his arm, as Thorin goes in for a hug you let go of him and move back. Your eyes wander to Kili who turns his head in order to avoid eye contact with you.
As the company moves forward you come across an area close to a river, Gandalf suggests that you all take a break and bathe. You and Kili were the last to go, you were paired up at the recommendation of Fili.
Kili guides you to the river, holding his weapon close to his chest, heâs been giving you the silent treatment after you got in between a fight. âYou can bathe here, Iâll keep watch.â his voice stern.
âKili..â your voice trails off as you look at his back, trying to pull his attention to you.
âY/N, just take your bath. Itâs getting dark.â Kiliâs tone is extremely cold. You pout your lips as you begin pulling your clothing off slowly, once you finish you slip into the cold water.
âYou can turn back now,â you say softly before you dip all the way under the water, holding your breath and squeezing your eyes shut. After a while you break the surface of the water sliding your hands over your face pulling the water back with your hair. Kili had turned around keeping his eyes on everything but you.
âKili,â you wave him over, âcome here, please.â you bite your lip as he gives you a bored expression.
âWhat is it?â he walks close to the bank of the river, his eyes scanning your face.
âShouldnât you join me? You're supposed to bathe as well,â he sighs, turning his back to you again.
âFine, turn away.â he sets down his sword and strips quickly. You face the other way as he slips into the water with you.
âKili, what is your problem?â you huff, spinning around with your arms crossed over your breasts.
âWhat do you mean?â his eyes are half closed as he looks at you with a slightly annoyed expression.
You move closer to him, âI mean, youâre acting so rude for no reason. You wonât look at me, you barely talk to me, youâre being so dumbâ you glare at him, âSo what is your problem?â he rolls his eyes at you.
âI donât know maybe the fact that you threw yourself into harm's way? You couldâve gotten yourself killed,â he yells at you while running his hand through his hair.
âCalm down Kili,â you move close to him, putting your hand on his arm. âI didnât expect you to get all worked up like this, I know I should have been more careful but I just wanted to help.â your eyebrows furrow as you look down.
His warm hands grasp your upper arms âYou really worried me Y/N,â he presses his forehead against yours.
âYou worried about me?â a sly smile paints itself on your lips, âdoes that mean you like me Kili?â your voice is soft and teasing. His ears turn a deep shade of crimson as he turns his head up.
âY/N cut that out,â he puts his hand on the side of your neck, his eyes flick to your lips.
âCut what out?â you wrap your arms around his neck pulling yourself close to him.
âYou know what,â he clenches his jaw, your hands running down his back as you wrap your legs around his hips.
Kili pulls your face to his, hovering his lips over yours âQuit teasing me,â he whispers. Your hand snakes up to the back of his head, cradling it as you push your lips against his. His hands move to your waist, his fingers dig into your soft flesh as he hugs you tighter against him.
âMahal,â he pulls away, pressing soft kisses down your face and onto your neck. You lean back letting his lips trail over your body, your nails scratch his scalp softly as you arch into him.
âAmrĂąlimĂȘ,â he whispers against your collarbone, âyouâre driving me insane,â Kili groans. He grasps your face pulling you in for an intimate kiss, heâs getting more intense with his affections, his hands squeezing your hips roughly.
Your hand trails down his chest tracing every muscle on his stomach, he begins grinding against you while holding your hips against him. Pulling away from the kiss you gasp for air, leaning your head against his shoulder, you wrap your hands in his hair pulling it off to the side. Kissing his neck roughly you begin to leave soft marks on his flesh as he massages your ass.
âY/N..â he mumbles into your ear, you moan softly as he picks you up, moving into shallow water. âCan we..?â his ears flush as he looks away, âI mean, would you mind?â you chuckle softly.
âMhm,â you move your hips against his thigh, feeling him twitch underneath you. âBut weâll have to be quick..â you kiss his shoulder as his hands pull your hips up, he lines himself up with your hole, pushing the tip in.
âLet me know if it hurts,â he says gently, his hand finding its way to your neck grabbing ahold of it pulling your head back as you moan softly. He bucks his hips up into you, leaning forward you bury your face into his nape hugging him tight as you moan into his skin.
âMy precious girl,â he groans as he slowly begins moving your hips up and down, his fingers digging into your soft skin, leaving red marks. You moan into his ear as you begin riding him, your arms wrap tight around his neck, eyebrows furrowing as you squeeze around his dick.
Kili cradles your head against him, holding you as close as he can, thrusting up into you pushing as deep as he can. Your head falls onto his shoulder, he moves a hand down to your sensitive clit, rubbing circles into it.
âIâm so close,â you moan, Kili nods in response.
âMe too,â he groans, his hands exploring every part of your body as he pulls you into a passionate kiss.
âHey, Y/N, Kili, hurry it up.â Fili yells to you, causing the both of you to jolt up. Kili pushes himself into you as deep as he can. You bite your lip as you cum around him, your hole pulsing.
Your back arches, silent gasps leaving your open mouth as you ride out your high. Your whole body seems to tense up causing Kili to groan while he cums deep inside you. He pulls you off of him giving you a sweet kiss.
âNow we really need to clean up, and fast.â He says lowly, his hands creep up from behind you gasping your sides as he pulls you into deeper water to rinse off. You sigh contently as he holds your body close to his.
After quickly cleaning yourselves up; you both get out, drying off before putting your clothes back on.
âKili, you canât tell anyone about this.â you bite your lip as you turn to him, his eyebrows furrow. âBilbo might actually get so mad he tries to kill you,â you giggle softly as his face relaxes.
âSo itâs our dirty little secret then?â coming close to you he wraps his arms around your neck giving you a deep kiss. âBut we will get to tell everyone later, right?â he pulls back, eyes scanning yours.
âYes, Kili,â you kiss the tip of his nose, hands resting on his shoulders, âbut let's wait it out for a bit, okay?â he smiles in response.

You woke to the usual clanging of pots and pans as breakfast was being cooked. Kiliâs hand was still on your waist and his arm was still your pillow, though you were sure itâd gone numb in the night. You gently placed your hand on his cheek and tenderly ran your thumb over his delicate cheek bone. He looked so handsome sleeping beside you, it made you smile like a giddy little schoolgirl. You regretted having to remove yourself from his warm embrace, but you had to start packing your things and getting ready for the day. A much easier task now that you didnât have to worry about your hair. When you were finished and your bag was neatly packed, you woke Kili.
He stretched his arms above his head then his eyes popped open, âGood morning!â, he sat up energized and ready to conquer the day.
âGood morning!â You replied with a kind smile, ever impressed by his liveliness in the mornings, âStart packing, Bomburâs almost finished breakfast.â
He shuffled about beside you while you worked on the last half of your bracelet, waiting for breakfast.
The porridge was the usual white sludge meant for nutrients, not flavor. You rinsed the dishes in the river with Kiliâs animated storytelling as you usually did after meals. Thorin had the company moving out when you returned.
The dayâs walk was very scenic, mostly idyllic forests with little rivers, where the lighting truly brought it all together. You walked between Kili and Fili so they could give you the basic run-down of sword handling and bowmanship.
By the end of midday, the company was on the border of the forest and a field. Thorin decided to make camp there and told Gloin to make the fire while Nori, Bifur, and Oin set traps in the forest to restock the reserves or something, you werenât listening, too focused on Kiliâs hand in yours as he led you somewhere.
The extra sparkle in his gorgeous brown eyes told you he was very excited to teach you about archery. As the resident Archer, no one (his brother) could compete for your attention by correcting him. He was also excited to watch you use his bow and his arrows; an honor bestowed upon an extremely select group.
Kili was very protective of his bows, not just because of the time it takes to make such an incredibly valuable weapon, but because one time in his youth he worked for weeks carving a brand-new bow from solid wood, making the string by hand, and engraving runic talismans into the handle. He worked very hard on that bow; Only to have one of his snot-nosed neighbors snatch it from him while they were playing and accidentally snap it in half after a misstep. Kili was furious, absolutely inconsolable. Fili had to drag him from the scene of the crime to the forest just behind their family house, so he didnât hunt the kid down and destroy him. He didnât say anything to Fili, just cursed and milled about the clearing in frustration. At first, his brother didnât know what he was doing, concerned he was setting a malicious trap for the offending child (such a spiteful trap was almost sprung after another incident of the same nature); but as Fili silently watched, out of armâs punching reach of course, he realized his brother was just looking for a piece of wood to make a new bow. Fili built a fire to keep the chill of the setting sun at bay, not wanting to abandon his brother to the coming night. He watched the younger mumble curses in dwarfish as he whittled the wood seemingly in his own little world. Kili hadnât really taken notice of the fire his brother built despite using its light and occasionally throwing more wood on out of habit while he stayed up all night to make the string and engrave the handle. Their mother, Dis, saw them through the window in the back door in the middle of the night. Fili was sitting on the ground, relaxed, leaning against a tree while he watched his brother on the other side of the blazing fire, Kili was sitting on a rock hunched over his bow as it came together. Dis knew from that moment Fili would always look after his little brother, or at the very least try his best. The craftsmanship of the bow he made that night was nowhere near his previous bow, but it could still shoot the straightest arrow in the village. It would do till he grew again and needed a bigger one.
Kili brought you a few yards away from the camp, out of ear shot but not out of sight. After the crash course in archery during the dayâs walk, you were as prepared as you could be. And excited as ever. Kili carved a target into the trunk of a tree with his dagger, not worried about losing misfired arrows in the underbrush because the fletching on the end of all his arrows were bright yellow.
He situated you both at a reasonable distance from the target and demonstrated again how to place your fingers on the string and what position to be in when you pull the string back. When he handed you the bow you were not expecting it to be as heavy as it was. Without an arrow, you tried to pull the string back like he showed but you couldnât move it. You looked at Kili.
âJust pull it back Y/N.â He encouraged, with a proud little smile.
âI am, Kee,â you said still straining to pull it. It wouldnât budge. He thought for a moment, trying to figure out what could be wrongâAh! He got it!
âHere, let me help.â He came up and stood behind you. âThe draw weight for my bow must be too high for you,â he said into your ear, his low hushed tone not going unnoticed as he got into position. He shuffled his legs behind yours and placed his hand below yours on the handle and his fingers above and below your slimmer, softer ones on the string. They were much stronger and much thicker than yours. Two of your fingers were the same width as one of his, a thought that quickly had you blushing. The irresistible mental image of moaning out for him while being deliciously stretched around his capable digits as he cooed praises, was nearly too much. You thanked god he was behind you and couldnât see your bright red face.
He let you do most of the work pulling the bowstring to allow you to get a feel for the mechanics and amount of potential energy the movement created.
âAndâŠâ he made sure you were ready, âRelease.â
You both let go of the string at the same time.
âPerfect! Now letâs try it with an arrowâ He got one from the quiver on his back and handed it to you.
You nocked the arrow like he taught you then got into position. He helped you pull the string back like before, allowing you to control the aim.
âReadyâŠâ You said to him this time, âRelease!â
The arrow flew across the field and landed smack in the middle of the bullseye.
âNo way,â Kili said in complete disbelief. You both went over to inspect the target. Sure enough, the arrow was deep in the carved center circle of the tree.
âThatâs amazing Y/N!â He turned to you with the biggest smile youâd ever seen. You were as happy as him, jumping up and down excitedly.
âI want to try again!â You walked over to your previous spot and lined yourself up, waiting for him to join you. He chuckled at your enthusiasm and grabbed another arrow on the way over. You repeated the process like a practiced dance, enjoying more than anything that he was your partner. He allowed you to aim again, but this time the arrow didnât hit its mark or the tree at all; It planted itself firmly into the leaf-covered underbrush.
âAwe,â you pouted, âI rushed, next time Iâll take my time.â You went to grab another arrow from his quiver, accidentally getting your face in his. For a moment, you could feel the heat of his lips and his breath tumbling over onto your own in a near ragged pant.
When you backed away you both politely laughed it off, though you could have sworn he leaned closer to you in that brief moment.
You shot all the arrows he had in his quiver. A handful hit the target, and a few even got close to the bullseye, but none hit the center like the first. Being a good coach, he encouraged and teased when the time was right. Â
Once again in your own little world, it was like nothing mattered except him. His radiant smile, his contagious laughter, his excitability; it was all consuming. As the day wore on, your arms got tired, and you were ready for a break. You helped him collect the arrows in and around the tree, so he could show off for a bit like boys do for pretty girls. He did trick shots and action shots and even pinned the pinecone you threw for him to the tree. His skills were very impressive. Your return to the camp was met with impressed exclamations.
âWas that a bullseye on the first shot?!â Bofur asked, having seen the miracle even from the other side of the camp.
âAye!â You said excitedly, proud of your accomplishment. You didnât even realize that you were beginning to use their dialect.
âGood job lass!â Oin said, along with the others happily celebrating with you.
After all that training, you were hungry for a snack. You rummaged through your bag in search of the grapes you had foraged with Bilbo the day before. They werenât in your bag where you left them, carefully wrapped in your old T-shirt.
âThey couldnât have fallen outâ you thought as you scanned the camp for the thief, already having an idea of the culprit. You stopped when your eyes fell on Kili across the camp, leaning against a tree with a shit-eating grin as he popped a grape into his mouth.
You were livid. It was a total invasion of your only private property: your bag, and you felt extremely violated.
You couldnât say anything to the offending dwarf or even look at him in fear of your rage exploding onto him. Your anger evident from your expression, the camp fell silent as you walked to Kili.
That feeling in Kiliâs chest sunk to his boots when he saw how angry you were; he knew heâd gone too far. You snatched the grapes from his hand and walked (stomped) into the field beyond the camp.
âY/N waitââ he tried to follow you into the field.
âNOT NOW KILIâ you snapped at him over your shoulder in a tone he didnât quite think you were capable of. He stopped in his tracks at your tone, the same one his mother used when she was very cross with him. The other members of the company who heard the commotion snickered at Kiliâs self-inflicted misfortune.
You sat in the field, soaking up the sunshine and eating your grapes while you calmed down. Kili moped around camp like an abandoned puppy; it was quite a pitiful sight.
When you finished your snack, you took a few deep breaths to get the anger from your system and allow your thoughts to come together to properly explain to Kili why you were so mad. The youngest Durin hesitantly joined you in the field when he saw you were done with your grapes, his footfalls crunching the grass beneath him alerting you to his presence. He sat next to you clearly a little nervous by how he picked at the grass.
âIâm sorry,â he said, looking at the ground. âIt was just supposed to be a joke, honest,â
âJoke or not, Kili Durin, you shouldnât have gone through my stuff!â You wanted to make sure he understood how unhappy his actions made you. He cringed at his full name. âYou violated the only sliver of privacy I have out here!â
âSorry, Y/N,â he said in a regretful voice youâd never heard from him before. âI shouldnât have gone through your bag.â
You sighed and looked over at him. âI forgive you Kee,â You took another deep breath, satisfied heâd learned his lesson, âJust donât do it again, ok?â
He smiled, happy to be back on good terms with you, âI wonât, I promiseâ. You smiled too, his infectious charm melting what little remained of your anger. You gave him a hug, knowing you both needed physical reassurance.
He sat with you in the field for a while, content to stay in comfortable silence. Youâd been eyeing a beautiful patch of flowers a few feet away since youâd sat down. You shifted so you were laying on your stomach to get a closer look at their vibrant hues and decided you wanted to use them, but how? Kili moved next to you, mirroring our position, to see what you were looking at. Then inspiration struck.
âIâll braid them into your hair!â You said excitedly. He gave you a look of surprised confusion.
âWhat?! No!â he was immediately against the idea and even backed away from you as if youâd jump on him any second like his brother might. âWhy donât I put them in your hair instead? Theyâd look much better on you.â He desperately tried to come up with a reason to avoid the inevitable onslaught of mocking heâd have to endure if he agreed to your plan.
You brought yourself to a kneel so you could look him dead in the eyes with a blank expression, âPussy,â you said.
He scoffed and got all huffy and puffy, âI am not a pussy!â He said defensively, his cute accent got thicker when he was flustered, it made it so hard to take him seriously, âI just think the flowers would make you even more beautiful than you already are.â
You blushed deeply at his words and looked away from his charming little smile to keep your thoughts from a more baser mindset and to think over his offer. He started twirling the end of one of the braids heâd done the night before between his fingers. It was a sweet and absentminded motion, to which you relented with a sigh, âAlright, but you have to teach me how to use a sword after.â
âDeal!â He gave a hearty nod. You got your hair stuff from your bag and your bracelet to work on and hopefully finish while Kili did your hair. You picked the prettiest flowers and put them in the extra fabric of your shirt like a delicate basket. He dragged over a stone to sit on and got to work undoing the braids and brushing your hair out.
You didnât realize how tight heâd made the braids till the tension was released from your scalp. You sighed in pleasured relief as he moved your hair around with the brush. That sound immediately pricked his ears.
âDoes that feel good, princess?â He looked down at you and smiled as he massaged the sore parts of your head. You were too lost in the feeling his skilled hands were creating to react to the pet name.
Once he massaged the soreness away, he parted your hair and began braiding. Kili had a vision of what he wanted to do to your hair. He wanted a thick band like a crown around the top of your head and four small thin braids scattered across the rest of your loose unbraided hair.
You were on an entirely different plane of existence. You felt so calm and relaxed and taken care of with his undivided attention, it was like nothing youâd ever felt before. His tranquil voice when he asked for a flower every now and then was the only thing you could hear. It felt like you were floating, your body sun warmed and peaceful.
When Kili was putting on the finishing touches, Fili came and joined you in the field to see what you both were doing, sadly pulling you from your lovely state of mind.
âKili wouldnât let me put flowers in his hair.â You pouted after the older brother inquired about your change in hairstyle.
âEven after he rummaged through your bag!â Fili feigned offense on your behalf with a smirk as he laid on his side in front of you both propped up on his elbow.
âShut up, Filiâ Kili huffed, ashamed of his previous actions, as he carded his fingers through your loose hair to make sure it was laying properly.
âAwe, Kiwiâs embawwassed,â you said in a baby-talk voice, making you and Fili laugh a little.
Kili stopped combing his fingers through your hair and tangled them in the loose hair at the back of your head. He pulled your head down to make you look up at him looming over you. He was about to say something, but the inadvertent dominating gesture caused an involuntary moan to slip past your lips, stalling any thoughts he tried to voice.
You were both stuck in that trance for just a moment, yet it took an eternity to pass. He was unable to look away from your pleasure pinched eyebrows and slightly parted panting lips. You were captivated by his handsome blushing features and the fire in his eyes. You wanted so desperately to kiss him, to meet his lips in heated passion.
âGood gods you two,â Fili rolled his eyes. His sudden interruption snapped Kili back to reality so he could release your hair. âGet a room,â Fili finished his statement.
âShut up, Fili,â you both said in unison with faces equally ablaze and eyes cast anywhere but at each other. The elder just looked at you two and laughed to himself, he knew at that moment you were both madly in love.
âHereâs your brush, Y/N.â Kili handed it to you, wanting to change the subject.
âYes, thank youâ You took it from him and hastily returned your bag to camp. You met Kili back in the field for sword training. His brother was still there passively observing (waiting till he had to step in to correct the younger as this was not Kiliâs area of expertise).
Bilbo allowed you to borrow his sword so you could get an idea of what a properly fitted one felt like without your wrists being torn to shreds by the other much heavier swords of the company. Kili walked you through basic moves and positions to teach you how to make your weapon like an extension of your own body. When he tried to speed up the movements and have you come at him in mock battle, you faltered and messed up the arrangement of poses.
When this happened, Fili of course would step in with a simplified version to help you. Before long, you had an audience, and the watchful eyes and extensive fighting prowess of Thorin and Dwalin. Kili was no longer the teacher but the sentient-sparing mannequin. The sequence of positions and movements became longer the more you worked at it. It felt amazing to be capable of so much. You knew it was just choreography, but it made you better now than you were before.
You were beginning to sweat under your thick tunic. The physical exertion was getting to Kili as well. When you took a water break you removed your shirt, the coffee brown padded camisole you wore underneath being far more breathable, but much tighter than your usual outerwear. It left hardly anything to the imagination.
Your less-dressed return to the now-stamped-down grass of the makeshift training area was met with impressed exclamations, wolf whistles, and light applause. You blushed and pretended to be a fashion model at the end of a runway. They found it very amusing.
Kili came back wondering what the commotion was about.
He saw you waiting for him. You hadnât noticed him approaching yet, too busy putting on a silly little show. He loved seeing you like this, confident and carefree, not worrying about how you looked and focusing on something that was far more rewarding: having fun. He used the few seconds you were distracted to admire you. Your half up half down hair heâd just braided and styled, was blowing softly in the wind, and your short unruly baby hairs were matted to your sweaty forehead framing your face. Your camisole highlighted the alluring curve from your ribs to your hips. The hem of the fabric was ridding up on your waist, revealing just a sliver of your lower tummy. Your pants kept where they were, hugging tight to your thighs and bottom.
âTwo can play that gameâ Kili thought, not even trying to hide his mischievous smile. He took his shirt off and threw it in his bag.
You looked up and saw him coming to meet you. The long bangs that framed his face were clinging to it now from his perspiration. He was smirking, knowing he caught you slightly off guard. His prominent pectoral muscles bled into his strong thick arms. His waist tapered at his hips where his pants were beginning to ride low, revealing his defined adonis belt in its retreat. He exuded power as he walked towards you with his arms out a bit from his side, and his palms facing you, as if he were challenging you.
âOhho, itâs serious now, is it?â you said over a light chuckle, feigning being taken aback by his friendly challenge.
âOh, it sure is.â He returned your light laugh and with a smug expression he tapped his sword against yours where it hung at your side. He knew he was flustering you. He could see it in the deepened flush that colored your cheeks and how your thumb picked at the leather-covered hilt of your sword.
You had to bite the inside of your lip rather hard to keep your eyes above his exposed shoulders. It had been so long since youâd felt so physically and mentally attracted to someone. The way he was looking at you made your panties dampen at the scandalous thoughts that his honeyed chocolate eyes made race through your head.
If Thorin hadnât said, âReady positionsâ, in that barking tone of his, youâd have jumped Kiliâs bones and rode him off into the sunset.
You both got into the starting positions you preferred. Thorin shouted âCommenceâ in Dwarfish. Kili came at you with harsh blows, which you perfectly countered like youâd been taught. You were able to quickly move yourself, so you were standing at his side. You took the opening and swung for his exposed ribs, but he easily blocked your attack. You pressed your blade against his to force him back and give up some ground. He stood steadfast in his heavy boots, however, and pushed back against you, getting his face close to yours to tease you.
âGood job, you remembered how to keep your grip on the sword.â He said with mock celebration. You gritted your teeth, determined to keep your footing. He glanced at your lips where your teeth were worrying your lower lip; A habit he noticed when you were focused or nervous.
âIâve been taught well, Archer.â You shot back, as suave as you could manage under the conditions. He threw you back so he could reset his stance.
âWeâll see about that, IbinĂȘ,â he said, flustering you again with that mischievous grin as his native language easily rolled off his tongue.
You charged at him, and your blades collided with a loud metallic clang. Your sudden advance surprised him, he backed up a few steps. Cheers came from your audience.
âIbinĂȘ?â You strained while your blades met again in a brute force pressing match. âWhat does that mean?â
Kili shoved you back and swiftly turned around, a trick he hadnât yet revealed in your spar. He abandoned his blade somewhere off to the side and spun around again but crouched in his movement so he could swipe your legs from beneath you. You fell to the ground with a muted thud, your weapon knocked from your grasp. Kili scrambled to straddle your hips, pinning down your legs with his and your wrists above your head. You tried to fight against him, but his strength and weight are much greater than yours.
He panted above you, smiling like a cat who got the canary, âIf only it were you straddling me,â he whispered under his breath and winked at you discreetly. Your chest was heaving, making your breasts ebb and flow with the rhythm. The erotic tension was palpable between you.
âWe have a victor!â someone said from the sidelines to break your daze. Kili blushed and stood and helped you from the ground. Your audience clapped a little then dispersed to the camp a few feet away.
You leisurely walked away from the encampment along the edge of the forest to catch your breath. The extra sway in your hips and a casual glance over your shoulder enticed Kili to follow you. He walked beside you. You looked up at him delighted he got the hint and followed you. He leaned over to say in a voice that was deeper than normal, âIbinĂȘ means my gem.â His words took a moment to register, a delayed blush colored your chest and neck.
He bit his lip as a thought played behind his eyes. Growing bold from the adrenaline still in his veins, he wrapped his hand around yours. He picked up speed till he was running with you trailing behind. He took you far from the others. The sun was setting, painting the sky in those vivid colors that only dusk and dawn brought.
Kili slowed to a stop and used his grip on your hand to bring you in front of him. He took a step into your personal space.
âLabathmizi means I adore you.â He gingerly placed his hand on your cheek like he was handling the thinnest, most precious glass in the world. You were blushing profusely, your gaze danced from his eyes to his lips. âAbnĂąmulzi means you are beautiful.â He pecked his lips against yours for a moment then backed you against a tree and pinned you against it with his strong hand on your hip. The prolonged eye contact was making you pant. His voice was low and rough with arousal, âAzralizi du-nĂąmrul, IbinĂȘâŠâ His head ducked down so his lips brushed against yours. ââŠmeans I want to fuck you, my gem.â He pressed his lips to yours in a kiss that surpassed any expectation you had. You lifted your leg over his hip, his hand went from your hip to your thigh, an encouraging movement, and it felt like it was searing into your cloth covered skin. It slid up to your ass cheek and urged you to grind against him. Your hand was on his bare shoulder and the other tangled in his hair, scratching and pulling lightly on the soft brown tresses at the nap of his neck. You whimpered as his hardening member pressed against your soaking core. Kili met your movements, making himself hiss at the delicious friction you were both craving.
When you broke the kiss for air as lust flooded your mind and loins, âThatâs really hotâ was all you could manage.
You were becoming addicted to his kiss. The way his thumb would glide against your cheek and the soft, barely there little whimpers he was making as you deepened the kiss were driving you mad with need. His tongue won its fight against yours when he gyrated his hips perfectly to grind into you, causing a moan to bubble from you. When he broke away, he looked at you, panting.
He suddenly went silent and perfectly still. His eyebrows pinched in a sudden focused confusion as he looked past the tree you were pinned to. This immediately concerned you.
You opened your mouth to ask if he was ok, but he put his finger to his lips to silence you. He closed his eyes and turned his head to focus on something; dwarfs and their connection to the environment around them still confused you.
His eyes shot open in a panic, and he tore himself away from you so he could pick you up bridal style.
You clung to him as he broke out in a sprint back to camp, âA pack of orcâs are coming.â Â

My Sweet Valentine ~ Kili x Human!Reader
A/N: So yesterday I asked who shall receive a lil love on this day and Kili won!! So here ya go it is literally just a tiny little short one shot but its smth :)
âą ËËË Warnings: fluff àżàŸ âą ËËË Words: 424 àżàŸ âą ËËË Request: No :) àżàŸ âą ËËË AmrĂąlimĂ© ~ My Love àżàŸ
Summary: You spent your morning hours with the wonderful dwarf prince Kili
Soft fingers stroked your cheek gently, making you stir awake from your slumber. You see Kilis brown eyes fill with warmth, as you woke up beside him. After the two of you decided to court, you were basically inseparable. You even shared a bedroom with the prince, which of course he doesnât mind.
âGood morning AmrĂąlimĂ©. Did you sleep well?â A smile graced your lips, as his groggy morning voice filled your ears. âHow could I ever sleep bad beside you my love?â Your arms snaked tighter around him. Head on his chest you listened to his heartbeat. Chuckling at your words, he gave you a gentle kiss on the top of your head.
âWell if we consider yesterday-â Your hand slapped at his chest playfully to stop him from finishing his sentence. Yesterday was another one of the infamous festivities that are celebrated in Erebor. And of course you attended them with Kili by your side. So one thing led to the other and now you were waking up beside him, completely bare.âYou are such a tease.â You say while hiding the blush on your face by cuddling further into his chest.
One of his hands moved from your back to your head. His fingers nimbly brushed through your hair to get rid of knots while you hummed contently. You loved it when he played with your hair. And so did he. One of your favourite past time activities is braiding each otherâs hair. Sometimes you sing during these times. And sometimes Kili plays a few soft notes on the flute while you add cute accessories into his braid.
You remember the first time you braided his hair. You were on your journey to win Erebor back when you found beautiful wildflowers which you thought would look stunning in Kilis hair. So you asked him if you could do so. Which resulted in him suddenly getting really quiet and blushing a bit while nodding. After you have finished his braid he asked you if you knew what it meant to braid a dwarfs hair. And so he explained the customs of courting to you. Which in return coloured your cheeks red. He even offered you a courting bead.
The sudden kiss on your lips takes you back to your reality. Smiling softly you let your hands brush over his stubble. âI love you Kili.â You gave him another soft peck. A sigh left his lips, as he pulled you closer. âLet me show you how much I love you AmrĂąlimĂ©.â

Okay this was written at 3 am on mobile so dont judge...
Warnings: kissing, question related to sex, nudity, more kissing making out. I think thats all??
Picture not mine!!!
The company had stopped hours ago at a small clearing for the night and even though everyone was tired no one seemed to want to go to sleep. You were talking with Bofur about some games you had back in your world.
"Oh and then there's this one called truth or dare" you said.
"How do you play it?" he asked.
"Do you need a board or cards or something for it?" asked Ori.
"No, the rules are simple. Everyone at their turn get to ask someone truth or dare. You choose truth and they can ask you anything and you have to answer truthfully. Dare and they can dare you to do anything and you have to do it" you explained.
"That sounds fun" Kili exclaimed. "Can we play?"
"Sure! I'll start asking. Who's in?" you challenged.
Most of the company said they are in exept for Balin, Oin, Dwalin and Thorin.
"Okay so Bofur truth or dare?"
"Truth"
"Okay umm.. do you take the hat off while bedding a woman?" you asked.
"What kind of a question is that? Of course i do not!" he said smugly.
"Okay now its your turn to ask someone"
The game went on like that for a while. Nori had gone skinny dipping and was now pretty much naked with a towel around him, Ori had to show some of his unfinished art and so on. Until it came to Kilis turn to ask someone.
"Y/n, truth or dare?" he asked grinning.
"Dare"
"Kiss Fili"
"What" said both you and Fili.
"Well the dare can be anything and i dare you to kiss my brother" he stated.
"Well alright then" you told him before walking over to Fili and leaning in before kissing him on the lips.
The kiss only lasted a few seconds but it still left you out of breath. You looked into his blue eyes before he leaned in to kiss you again, this time more passionetly.
You kissed for a long while before he picked you up and laid you on your back on the ground. You pulled away to take a couple of breaths and you were leaning back in until someone interrupted the two of you.
"Alright i get it that you like each other but get a room" said Thorin. You had not realised that you had all eyes on you the whole time. You started blushing but the you blurted out. "Well we could get a room if you could just let us stop in town for even one night"
"Alright then, we will stop in the next town so that Y/n and Fili can have a little privacy" he stated and went back to talking to Dwalin.
His statement earned a few thank yous from the company. You on the other hand were a blushing mess pinned under Fili.
"I will do more than just kiss you once we are in a private bedroom, amrĂąlimĂȘ" he whispered in your ear before getting up and walking to his brother.

Dance at a Feast
Happy New Year everyone! The good thing about having two weeks off from work is that I am able to get some writing done! I'm trying to get drafts done for a lot of fics I have plans for, so I can have some things to post when I go back to work.
Also, please feel free to make requests! I have a list of prompts which is linked below, and a master list that has the fandoms and characters I write for. If there is someone and a something not listed that would like to make a request for, feel free to and I will let you know if I know enough about it to write for it. Also feel free to make requests for this verse!
This is another part in the Covered in Steam verse. A fluffy piece between female reader and Thorin, it is set after Covered in Steam.
Warnings: Talks of a sexual nature. Dain being disrespectful - nothing insane just not acknowledging the reader as the Queen *yes I think this should be a warning*

You fiddled with the sleeves of your dress tugging them down before pulling them back up and then down again. You glanced at the mirror in Thorinâs, no your chamber you hadnât slept in the chamber that was yours since that night. You wore a beautiful gown in the colours of the family of Durin, the blue almost matched that of your Kings eyes. Your hair had been left down showcasing the braids and beads that Thorin wove into it every morning. You were nervous, this was the first feast since you were behaving as a true married couple. And you didnât want to do anything that would embarrass Thorin. Which was why you were concerned about the dress, the shoulders of the dress could sit normally or be pulled down to expose your shoulders and collarbones, and the plunging neckline was lower than what you normally wore but it worked the best with the necklace Thorin had gifted you with on the day you got married, and you hadnât worn it yet.
âSister?â you heard Disâ voice call out from the sitting room next to the bedroom where Thorin received any guests that came to your chambers.
âIn here!â you called back, shifting the bodice of the dress a little, unsure about the gauzy material that ran in panels down your ribs before forming into the princess style skirt.
âOh my,â Dis whispered as she laid eyes on you. âI think you may very well kill my brother in that dress.â
âIs it too much?â you spun around eyes wide with concern as you smoothed down the billowing skirts. âItâs a normal style in my homeland but I know it isnât overly common amongst the women here.â
âYou look stunning my Queen,â Dis assured you as she came to stand in-front of you grabbing your hands. âYou do not need to pretend as if the culture and norms of your homeland do not exist, my brother would not expect you to only dress as a dwarven woman.â
âI know he has told me as such, but I just donât want toâŠembarrass him in-front of his court, especially since everything between us is still so new,â you nibbled your lower lip before yelping a little as Dis pinched your arm.
âYouâll ruin the makeup,â Â
âCanât have that can I?â you laughed, your nerves slowly leaving you in your sister in laws presence. Something she has always managed to do.
âNow, come on,â Dis tugged on you before stopping for a moment. âWait, you are missing something.â She let go of your hand to go back to your dressing table and lifted the small crown from its resting place to put it on your head. âThere.â
You lifted your hand to gently touch the crown as Dis went back to tugging you out of your rooms and towards the main banquet hall. You were still not use to wearing a crown, as you and Thorin both only tended to wear them when you absolutely had to. Such as at a feast welcoming Thorinâs cousin Dain. You could hear the celebrations before the door even came into view, you smiled. Dwarrow truly knew how to throw a feast and celebration.
âIntroducing her Highness Princess Dis and her Royal Majesty Queen y/n,â the herald at the doorway announced both you and Dis causing the court to become quiet as Thorin stood from his chair and walked around the table that housed the royals. His eyes burned with a fire as he took in your appearance, you could feel the eyes of every dwarf on you as the king walked towards you and Dis quickly left your side to greet her sons. You could only guess the dwarf sitting on Thorinâs left was his cousin Dain, Lord of the Iron Hills. You briefly caught his eyes only to quickly break eye contact and focus on your husband. Dain had the same colour eyes as Thorin only his were cold and calculating, and you did not like the way he looked at you.
âMy wife,â Thorin rumbled, this voice bouncing around the room. âYou are a vision.â
You dropped into a small curtsy as your body warmed, your eyes locking onto his as you lifted your head back up. Thorin stepped closer to you to place a kiss upon your lips before gently taking your hand, guiding you to stand in-front of his cousin, who remained seated.
âCousin, my wife, your Queen,â Thorinâs voice was hard as stone as he noticed the disrespect being shown to you. âGreet her.â Dainâs eyes narrowed before a friendly mask fell over his face as he stood and bowed low to you.
âItâs an honour to finally meet you, Your Majesty,â Dainâs voice didnât sound overly pleased and you were concerned but you nodded back at him regardless, knowing now was not the time to raise concerns.
âAnd it is lovely to finally meet you Lord Dain, Thorin has spoken highly of you,â you responded voice soft, your eyes looking at a point over his shoulder as you didnât want to look into his cold eyes again.
âCome my Queen, you must be hungry,â Thorinâs arm wrapped around your waist and led you away. You smiled gratefully up at Thorin raising on your toes to press your lips to his cheek in thanks. His arm squeezed you in kind, his eyes full of love as he stared down at you.
âHello aunty mine,â Kili smiled up at you as you walked past. You grinned down at him, unable to resist messing up his hair. Kili pouted up at you as he tried to fix his hair, you dropped a kiss on his head in apology as you did the same to Fili as you walked past. Disâs sons had been as welcoming as she had when you arrived, always smiling and including you, you were forever grateful for those three Durinâs.
âAunty,â Fili smiled as you sat down beside him, Dis was in the middle of her two sons, who leaned around her oldest to smile at you. âDonât worry about Dain. Heâs a traditionalist but Uncle doesnât pay any mind to those old dwarves.â Fili had lowered his voice and leant close to your side. His eyes, the same shade as his uncle was soft and kind as he looked at you. Your heart squeezed at his words.
âThank you Fili,â you whispered back. âI will keep that in mind.â
âBut, should he or any other dwarf look to cause you problems promise that you will let myself, my mother, Kili, Dwalin or Balin know. Of course Thorin should be your first choice but if you cannot find him, you also have us on your side,â Fili added squeezing your arm before letting go and focusing on his food.
You could hear the conversations going on around you as you picked at your food. You never ate much in-front of large crowds, but would always find a plate of food waiting for you in your chambers after a feast. You had always wondered who ensured the staff left it but never thought to investigate it too much.
âAre you alright love?â Thorin asked removing himself from the conversation with Dain to check on you. He had picked up on your added nerves after meeting Dain and wanted to do everything he could to be sure that you were fine.
âI am,â you nodded turning to give Thorin a smile but you could tell from the look on his face that he didnât buy it. He leaned close enough to whisper into your ear.
âIf I had known Dain would show such disrespect to my wife I would never had invited him here,â Thorin promised you. âTell me at once if he ever does so again or makes you uncomfortable at all. Erebor if your home and you are the Queen.â
âYou Durinâs and your need to protect,â you teased nudging your nose against his.
âOh?â
âFili just gave me a list of all the dwarves I can tell if Dain or any other dwarf causes me problems,â you explained. âIt was pretty much you four and Dwalin and Balin.â
âHmm,â Thorin hummed his eyes full of pride at your words. âWell, us Durinâs are fiercely protective of those we care about. And once we care for someone it is next to impossible to get rid of us. So Iâm afraid my heart, you are stuck with me, and my sister and nephews.â
âSuch an imposition that,â you laughed.
âYou werenât thinking I was an imposition this morning,â Thorin growled his eyes darkening as heat filled them. âWith my tongue between your thighs.â
âThorin,â you gasped in shock. âYou canât say things like that here.â
âI am the King,â Thorin shrugged kissing your lips and whispering his next words into your mouth. âI can say such things when I please. And no-one can hear us.â
You playfully glared at him about to say something back when Dain interrupted leaning around Thorin to gain his attention again, sending you a cold look before placing the mask back in place before Thorin could see. Thorin kissed you once more rounding on his cousin, you could hear the harshness in his tone as he spoke in dwarvish. You sipped at your wine, as music started to play, as it always does at a Dwarven feast. The boys beside you quickly stood up looking to find some partners to dance with, Kili raced off instantly looking for Ori. Fili however, hesitated, Dis had left seeking out Balin to discuss some matters.
âMy Queen,â Fili said, his voice loud and pointed as he bowed low at his waist holding a hand out. âMay I have a dance?â
You grinned up at Fili, standing up and reaching to take his hand but you were pulled tightly against a hard chest. Thorinâs scent surrounding you. Fili smirked, his eyes playfully challenging his uncle, as he continued to wait on your hand.
âMy wife will be dancing with me first, nephew,â Thorinâs voice rumbled.
âI think Her Majesty can make that decision, Uncle,â Fili grinned.
âI am honoured Prince Fili,â you grinned, trying to keep your voice regal. âHowever, I would think you would prefer to seek out someone else to danceâŠand even maybe court?â
Filiâs face flushed bright red his eyes automatically going towards a dwarven woman that was standing off to the side near Bofur. The look in his eyes was similar to how Thorin would look at you and you knew that maybe you and Dis could do a little pushing.
âI meanâŠI canâtâŠâ Fili stuttered in an uncommon show of nerves.
âYes you can nephew,â you encouraged him stepping a little out of the circle of Thorinâs arms but he kept a hold of your hips. âI have seen that young woman look at you, in the same manner you look at her. You are a Durin, take the courage that all you Durinâs seem to possess in enough abundance to take on a Dragon and ask her to dance.â
You felt Thorinâs hands squeeze your hips and his lips pressed into your neck, you could feel the smile that tugged at them. You reached out to squeeze Filiâs hands, forcing his eyes back to yours. The red of his face had calmed down to a light pink.
âRight, yes, true,â Fili nodded.
âYou are my heir Fili,â Thorin added reaching out to pat him on the shoulder. âYou can do this.â
Fili nodded once more before he turned around and strode towards the woman in question. He forced the Durin swagger into his steps as the two of you watched him in amusement. Thorin tugged you close again turning you around, you smiled up at him wrapping your arms around his neck.
âSo, that dance?â you asked. âBetter make good.â Â
âCome along then,â Thorin smirked. Pushing you backwards, you giggled turning around and taking hold of his hand and pulling him onto the space in the middle of the room that was used for dancing.
Thorin spun you around before tugging you close, wrapping his right arm around your waist and grabbing your right hand with his left, you placed your left hand on his shoulder. You allowed him to led you around the floor trusting him to keep you from backing into anyone. The tune was a fast past one, your skirt flying out every time he spun you around quickly. He grabbed both of your hips and lifted you up and turning the two of you before putting you back down and grabbing hold of your hand again to lead you around.
You giggled as your dress managed to hit Kili and Ori on your way past them, you threw an apology over Thorinâs shoulder causing the two young Dwarves to laugh. Thorin couldnât take his eyes off of you, your eyes were bright with happiness and you had not stopped laughing and smiling since Fili had first asked you for a dance. Your face was flush from your wine and from the dancing, you had danced to two fast paced songs before a slow paced song started to play. Thorin wrapped both his arms around your waist pulling you as close to him as he could get you. You looped your arms around his neck, using one of your hands to tilt his head down, he grinned as he rested his forehead against yours and swayed the two of you in time with music.
âYou truly do look beautiful tonight, my Lady,â Thorin whispered. âSeeing you in my colours, I wish to take you from this hall and feast on something else entirely.â
âMy King, was this morning and last night not enough?â you asked, stroking the back of his neck, his thick hair covering your movements.
âI will never have enough of you,â Thorin answered. âI will never have enough of your taste, of your body, of you. I will always want you in my arms.â

Fluttering Heart
Fluffober Day 13: Soulmates
Kili Durin x f!human!reader
Word Count: 1.5k
AN: OMG! This has definitely been my favorite to write so far. I love Kili with my whole heart and that for sure came out while I was writing. I really want to see about making this a longer series once October ends, if anyone wants to see that leave a comment and let me know.

The culture of the dwarves is much like their treasure, kept under lock and key. Histories, customs, and traditions all are played very close to the chest of the stubborn race. The only beings who are let in on the secret are those lucky enough to be a fated match.Â
There are different names for these matches in every culture, Soulmates, true loves, twin flames. The dwarves called them Ones. To find your One was said to be the best day of your life. At least that is what Kili thought, he wouldnât know though. He hadnât met his yet.Â
His uncleâs one had been the Hobbit, Bilibo took longer to fall than Thorin but fell just as hard if not harder than the dwarf. The two were very much in love, it was sickening. His motherâs One had been his father, and he doesnât remember much about their time together. Feeâs One was a lovely lass that had come from the Blue Mountains to try and establish herself as a seamstress under the mountain.Â
All of them had told him how wonderful finding their Ones was, even Thorin whose One was not of the race of Dwarf and thusly did not feel the same pull that he had. Thorin had to actually make Bilbo fall in love with him, which amused Kili to no end because of how much their two personalities seemed to clash.Â
Kili hates spending time under the mountain now, he loves Erebor and takes pride in the fact that he was one of the brave few who had reconquered it, but everywhere he looked he saw people being happy with something he did not have.Â
The feeling went much deeper than those childhood squabbles he had had with Fili when the two pebbles would play together. Jealousy over toys was easily remedied, the ache that had recently taken up residence in Kiliâs heart was much more difficult to push aside or fix.
So he had taken to going for walks. He had volunteered himself too many times to be the point of contact for the King of Dale. He had told Thorin it was because he wanted to prove that he could be trusted with matters of diplomacy. He might not be next in line, but he was still a prince and could take care of these things. It was on one of these trips to Dale that Kili met the very person who would change his life.
She was of the race of men and seemed to work in one of the few taverns that housed the nightlife of the town. Kili was in a sort of informal meeting with Bard, his son Bain, and the Captain of the Guard. They were discussing a deal between the two kingdoms where Erebor would provide the army of Dale with iron-forged armor and weapons and in turn, Dale would pledge their allegiance to the kingdom under the mountain in any future battle. Kili couldnât help but find the humor in the reversal of roles as if the company had not asked and pledged the same things five years ago. This clause was only one of the facets that made up the current peace treaty in the works. It was Kiliâs idea to have the meeting in a less tense and stuffy room than they were previously held in.Â
âEverybody has to eat Bard, why donât we eat and talk at the same time? Iâm sure weâd all be much more comfortable.â Bard had agreed at the behest of Bain who had laughed and reminded his father of the last time he had had a proper meal. After that, the men had embarked towards Bardâs favorite tavern. And judging by the way he had jovially called out to the man behind the bar, he was at least acquainted with the people who worked there.
Their waitress was a beautiful woman, who had skills like Kili had never seen, and he had been in a lot of taverns. She was able to carry three trays of piping hot food at the same time and at one point he had even seen her stack and move at least twelve pint glasses to a rowdier table towards the back of the establishment. And she did all this with the most beautiful smile he had ever seen.Â
If only he would actually get to talk to her. The tavern was busy and she seemed to be one of the only other people working besides the man behind the bar and whoever was preparing the food to be served. She was never in the same place for a very long time. After she had gotten their initial order she had placed their pints down and immediately zipped off to fulfill the next request.Â
Without the ability to actually talk to her, Kili had to settle for second-hand knowledge. âSo what can you tell me about the woman who served us?â Kili asked nobody in particular.
âWhy, do you fancy her?â Came Bainâs reply.
âNo, but any woman that can carry that much and move that fast without wasting a drop is certainly one I want to get to know.â
âHer name is y/n, Sheâs apprenticed to Brant, the man who owns this tavern. She arrived in Dale a year or two ago. I think she's from Bree but she's settled here. I think she has an arrangement with him, when he finally retires the place will be hers.â Bard had explained, throwing a somewhat scolding glance at his son. Kili might be young and more carefree than his uncle but he is still a prince and Bard did not wish to offend him.
âInteresting, any idea why she left Bree? Itâs quite a long journey to take on your own.â Kili asked.Â
âWhy donât you ask her?â A third, much more feminine voice replied. Kili who had not seen her make her way over to their table, had nearly jumped out of his skin. The other men tried and failed to hide their amusement at his predicament. âAfter all, Iâm sure sheâd be willing to tell you as long as she didnât catch you talking about her when she wasnât around.â She had said all of this with a smile spread across her face and delight in her voice. Kili wasnât really sure how she felt about his impolite inquiries, but she hadn't chased him out of the establishment with a broom yet, so he thought he was okay.
âIâve gotten everyone else settled and thought Iâd come visit the King, how are you this evening King Bard?â her attention was firmly placed on the King of Dale now, and Kili longed for her piercing gaze to once again land on him.
âIâve told you, itâs just Bard, all of this King nonsense will just go to my head,â
âOf course King Bard.â She smirked and turned towards the rest of the men. âAnything else I can get you, gentlemen?â With a firm nod at their newest order, she spun and headed back towards the bar.
âI think Iâm in love.â Kili had said under his breath.Â
âI think itâll take you much more than that to win her over.â Bain had replied, hearing Kiliâs self-confession. âEvery time weâre in here I see her turn down men. Granted, most of them are usually drunkards but the principle is all the same.â
Kili was certain that the fluttering in his chest and the feeling of light-headedness had to mean something. And given that both the feelings had started right after she had spoken to him, he was pretty sure he knew what it was.Â
âHere you are boys, four more pints and a basket of bread, on the house.â She had placed the basket of bread and little bowls of butter and honey on the table. When she pulled her hand away it bumped into Kili and sent a wave of shocks all the way up his arm.
