A while back I saw a Tumblr survey about favourite characters and ships. It basically showed that for people whose favourite character is Katara, Zutara is the most popular ship. Obviously the Venn diagram between Zutara shippers and Katara fans isn’t a circle, but I think the overlap contributes to why so many ZKs are passionate about Katara. Also, ZKs who are Katara fans tend to be pretty flexible with Katara ships: many people like Harutara / Jiangtara / Yuetara / Sukitara / Azutara (though most shippers of Azutara tend to be Azula stans first and Katara stans second). What’s really funny and a little sad to me is that non-ZK Katara fans who dislike her canon arc get accused of being ZKs by antis (this happens weirdly often to @sapphic-agent). It’s like some antis can’t comprehend the idea that people might just love Katara without the ship war.

I generally like reading POVs from Katara fans of all ships, but I recently discovered that I tend to disagree with POVs from Zukka shippers. They often try to defend Katara’s “childhood” by pointing out that Katara sometimes goofs off and Sokka also takes responsibility, so she’s not just the “mom friend.” To be clear I’m not disagreeing with those points, but I don’t think downplaying her parentification trauma is defending her childhood, especially since goofing off & being impulsive make her parentification more realistic, not less. It feels kind of disingenuous to accuse the fandom of being the ones to parentify her when The Runaway exists, especially since they downplay Katara’s parentification in order to play up Sokka’s parentification. There’s nothing feminist about ignoring the invisible labour performed by a woman in a cartoon, not when brave women IRL have been agitating to recognize care work for literal decades. I wrote my undergrad thesis on invisible labour performed by women, especially women of colour, in radical activist spaces…so I feel really strongly about this.

I think it’s interesting that a lot of ATLA fans claim Katara shouldn’t be with Zuko on the grounds of her colonial trauma, but refuse to entertain the notion that maybe she shouldn’t be with Aang (a kid who evades responsibility) because of her parentification trauma. The murder of her mother stems from imperialist violence, but her subsequent parentification stems from patriarchal gender norms around divisions of labour and assignations of responsibility. The patriarchy is a thing in ATLA, and it’s canonically something that Katara hates almost as much as the Fire Nation (incidentally, reason 27363729 why the fic Southern Lights is so special to me is how it deftly explores both anger at a colonial apparatus & anger at your own people for their patriarchal oppression).

Hello there ! I’m obsessed with searching and finding older Zukka content as the show was coming out or buried Zukka content nobody seems to find. S/o @nvergonnajimout and @somethingfoamy for being curious.

This fic list is crazy because fanfic writing back then was… different. But I’ll tell y’all what’s in it. These are some fics that I actually ended up reading and got hooked.

Y’all this is just straight smut in some parts. I liked it tho because Zuko is like a spirit dragon thingy?? And it was Sokka-centric. But it has power dynamics definitely so if y’all are okay with all three of those things go for it. Honestly I was hooked the first chapter. I consider it well written for being a fanfic from 2007. But it is not like the classy AO3 literature y’all might be accustomed to. There’s 28 chapters.

FYI this was the one site I was like iffy to be on because I thought my phone was going to get a virus, but it didn’t! It’s a safe site (to my standard). This was the only lengthy fic on the Zukka section on the site, but if you want to explore you will find much more smutty Zukka fics.

So this is probably the biggest warning: it’s mpreg. Which is definitely not everybody’s taste. I was iffy but I still read it and it actually surprised me. There was not over femininzation of Sokka. If you like to read kidfics, this is a good one!! There’s like 3 other fics the author wrote connecting to this fic. There’s 25 chapters. It’s the whole classic cliché where one of them gets pregnant (Sokka) and hides it from the other (Zuko).

I put far too much time into this. No regrets.

In this list I will try my best to highlight some works with lower hit counts, but there will be many popular fics too because they are good. Especially in the Zukka category - I have learned I need to read way more Zukka one shots (recs welcome).

I largely read what I write so this is mostly Zuko centric angst / whump / hurt comfort (perhaps I should branch out, hmm). Please read the tags - some of these stories are dark, including torture and non-con.

Also I have realized I have not commented on many of these (tsk-task), so I have some homework this week. If you read a rec from this list I implore you - comment on it! Feed those authors!

I’d recommend just about anything they’ve written (I'll rec a few specific stories below too, but really, check out anything):

Sulkybender - Sulky writes Zukka fics that are incredibly emotional. Sometimes very dark, always very tender. But no matter how grim things get, his work is full of hope and insistent on the humanity of its subjects. The angstiest life affirming stuff you've ever read. That would be more than enough, but his stories are also creative as hell and artfull crafted -- not a word wasted, beautiful phrasing. And he writes the whole Gaang well? And he’s prolific as hell? How did we get so lucky? I cannot say enough nice things.

outpastthemoat - she has a lot of wonderful Zuko & Iroh stories. Still working my way through them!

Haicrescendo - sometimes I find a story I like, check their profile, and then read everything. I had the opposite experience with those author. One day I was looking through my bookmarks and realized “oh wow, I have so much from this author!” So there!

Lazy 8 - A very good whump writer. Their stories are emotional. The medical details are fairly accurate (or as accurate as you can get when some of the solutions are bending related). Lots of content - including a black out ATLA bad things happen bingo card!

This fic is a hidden gem (less than 3k views - how??). It’s short - 1.5k. But the writing is so tight and the ideas are so big that it feels like there’s more there. I want a season length version of this. If my fanfic writing career lasts long enough I will gratefully borrow this idea and make a long work of it, it is so good. Amazing Iroh fic, amazing Iroh & Zuko fic.

He tries to focus on what Zuko needs, how to make Zuko comfortable, to distract himself from the engulfing chasm of fear that seizes him whenever he considers the possibility of losing Zuko the way he’d lost his wife and Lu Ten.

But then Iroh’s eye catches on the sprays of pale pink cherry blossoms that drift across Zuko’s hospital gown, the fabric faded and worn from use.

And he drifts.

Modern AU where Zuko has cancer and Iroh is very much struggling with the potential of losing him. For when you need to feel sad.

Sokka knows three (3) things:

1. The caldera is on fire.

2. Ozai’s really, really dead (and so is his daughter).

3. The only one having a worse day is probably Zuko.

A very dark “Zuko never joined the Gaang” story, but I love it so. Very bleak, though it’s looking better at the end. The series is marked incomplete but the stories inside are. Hints of Zukka to come - maybe if the series ever continues! I also just adore the series title.

Between the Salt Water and the Sea Strand by Philosopher_King

"Iroh looked away when Ozai put a hand to his son’s face—but even as he did, he swore that he would never look away from Zuko again."

After the (so-called) Agni Kai, Iroh helps the palace doctors care for his grievously injured nephew, resolves to accompany Zuko into exile, and makes a bargain.

Iroh POV as Zuko recovers from the Agni Kai with medical realism, political maneuvers, and supernatural elements. What more can I ask for?

Pride is Not the Word by Haicrescendo

Iroh wasn’t prepared for another child, but the universe hasn’t ever cared about that.

A modern AU where Iroh hasn’t been in contact with his brother in a long time, when suddenly his nephew calls looking for help. Iroh immediately adopts him. Heartbreaking and heartwarming in equal parts.

Mpreg AU. Diverges around “The Chase.” I just love the way Zuko and Sokka especially are characterized in this one. Sokka is at turns noble, immature, charming, and the most annoying ham you’ve ever met. I love how teenage everyone is at times. The first half is delightfully lived in. The back half is high stakes and angsty. People make mistakes and make up for their mistakes. It’s just lovely.

Blue by bealeciphers

Iroh insists they create a new life and identity in Ba Sing Se. Zuko wants nothing more than to bide his time until his next opportunity to return home, until he realizes ‘Lee’ can get away with things Zuko never could.

Zuko dons the mantle of the Blue Spirit again only to lose his focus when the Avatar comes to the city. This time, however, his attention is drawn to the annoying Southern Tribe warrior.

This is the fic I have re-read the most. And I would have never imagined it would be for me, because I tend not to love “mistaken identity” stories, but it’s executed flawlessly. Every emotion is perfectly earned. The romance is thrilling and angsty and touching and sweet. And fun! The examination of Zuko & Iroh’s relationship is amazing and there are two scenes in particular that just the top. Sokka is written so, so well. His dialogue. Zuko obviously written very well, living in his head here is so moving. There writing is beautiful. There are descriptions in this fic that capture the fun of it being an animated show in ways I rarely see. Side characters are treated so well. And it has possibly the best terrible injury chapter I’ve ever read. I love it so much. Very popular and I would make it more popular if it could.

An enemies-to-lovers season 2 rewrite, where Sokka is separated from the gaang during the Siege of the North, and travels the Earth Kingdom with Zuko instead

Another very popular one and it should be, it’s great! A lovely season 2 re-write. The way their relationship builds is gorgeous.

A modern AU where Sokka suddenly becomes critically ill with cancer, upending everyone’s lives. Based on the author’s own concern journey. It can be a rough read at times, but worth it. Incredibly well done.

Sokka takes a job washing dishes at the new tea shop in town. It's a great gig, until he finds out his only coworker is his old high school bully. Sokka really should quit, but he also really needs to afford rent.

Also, Zuko is kind of hot now.

A very well done, romantic modern AU that is just so charming. The hype is well deserved. Author has lots of other work, but this is all I have read so far.

I used to invent love when necessary by sulkybender

After ten years of terrible mistakes, Zuko has one chance to redeem himself.

A story where Zuko joined the Gaang and betrayed them with horrific consequences. Now he has a chance at something like redemption, if there’s enough of him left to take it. I had a super fun experience reading this as the chapters released, speculating on what would come next like it was AsoiaF. It has a lot going on and it’s a lot of fun! Albeit bleak fun.

He should be dead, but he isn’t.

He died, but it didn’t stick.

Or: Zuko is very good at dying. The problem is everything else.

Zuko is a phoenix and he loses himself with each death. Sokka is in love with him and suffering. Another very fun, dark AU! The way canon events are weaved in works very well. And the conclusion is super interesting in a supernatural way. This was releasing at the same time as the above fic - that was a fun time!

Icarus, Point to the Sun by aeoleus

(or: Zuko is taken prisoner by Azula in the catacombs. Turns out, being kept miles away from the sun isn't so great for your bending.)

A popular one for good reason. It’s pure angst and done well. I could put this under Zuko & Iroh fics, but the gaang’s all here. A lovely heartbreak that works towards hope. It will make you feel.

Everything is going according to plan. He was thrown into the freezer, where he'll ready their escape vessel while Sokka prepares to break everyone out at the right time. Zuko can handle a little chill in the meantime. It won't be long.

Zuko falls at the North Pole, and when he comes around he's not sure if he's more angry at the Avatar, his uncle, or himself. A story of emotional growth and tea with too much salt in it. AU from "The Siege of the North Part 2."

Another well read story that deserves it. A wonderful character story and the author gets 1000 pts for their use of Hahn.

Flowers for Zuko by spacemagic

In the aftermath of the Final Agni Kai, in that desperate space in between the comet and the coronation where the whole world is scrambling for breath, Zuko struggles to deal with what happened to his sister. Katara watches, holds his hand, and picks flowers.

Zuko and Katara gen fic is good stuff. Bonus points for the Azula struggles.

Thoughts of Reason, Thoughts of Treason by SlytherclawHomunculus

What is the difference between what you've been taught, and whats the truth? When the Avatar asked Zuko if he thinks they could have been friends, Zuko stops for a moment to think about it instead of blindly lashing out. He comes to some surprising(and haunting) revelations about himself and his nation.

There are many good “Zuko joins the Gaang in season one and they teach him to embrace his inner goodness stories” and this is one. He has a fever though a lot of it and I really like how the author treats it when he tips into a dream like state. This fix is very sweet, but with lots of angst and self discovery. I also especially like Zuko at the northern air temple.

Fight by Electrons

Zuko decides to fight Azula in the Crystal Catacombs. This sets of a sequence of events that leads to Zuko being Aang's tour guide through the Fire Nation. While together, the GAang and Zuko get to know each other better while learning about each other's cultures. Zuko and the GAang bond and become closer than any of them could have predicted, but that might not be enough to save them from the terrors waiting ahead.

I regret that is has been long enough since I read that that I can’t remember everything I loved. Good Gaang dynamic. Everyone gets a POV and it’s good. Wonderful world expansion with fire nation cultural norms and especially the expansion of the Painted Lady story. Creative healing abilities for all bending. And I remember Toph being especially touching in this one for some reason.

To Light a Fire Series by IcyPanther

Or: Canon-divergent AU where Zuko is disowned and made a slave.

Zuko is given to the General he spoke out against in the war meeting as a slave. By the time he encounters the Gaang again, he’s been through it. And he’s lost his firebending. The series is good whump, but the third story is my favorite.

Two Sides by Lazy8

A mere year after the end of the Hundred Year War, an assassination attempt leaves Zuko fighting for his life and his friends fighting to save him, but this time, his luck may have finally run out...

First story is a fight for Zuko’s life with all the medical bending you can possibly imagine. Second story deals with the aftermath. Everyone in the Gaang has great moments, especially Katara. Lots of emotional moments.

Mountains and Badgermolehills by Glass_Onion

After the Blue Spirit frees the Avatar from the Pohuai Stronghold, Admiral Zhao captures Prince Zuko under suspicion of treason. Isolated from his Uncle and his crew, Zuko has only one ally: the chatty prisoner one cell over.

This fic doesn’t need me to recommend it, but I will because it’s excellent. Deserves all the attention it gets. Sokka’s dialogue. All the conversations. Origami. And Zuko’s emotional conclusion = perfect.

Fuel to the Fire by talespin

Combustion Man never finds the Western Air Temple, and the Gaang goes ahead with the plan to capture Zuko and hold him prisoner so he can’t hurt anyone. Now Zuko has to convince them he’s on their side without having any proof he doesn’t want the Avatar dead anymore, and preferably before Katara decides to kill him.

… If only he weren’t so bad at being good.

The way the Gaang treats Zuko in this story is pretty horrific, and yet the author does the work to show us how we got there. Quite emotional. And it all works out in the end. Excellent use of minor characters handing out at the western air temple.

And Zuko wants to laugh, he does, because he’s twenty-one, and he's the guardian of a five-year-old sister he didn’t even know existed until his mother died in a car crash, and he's legally responsible for his nineteen-year-old sister who’s been admitted for almost a year of her short life, and rent is due, and his temp job doesn’t pay nearly enough, and he wishes he had someone to help, but he has no clue where Uncle is, and no other adult has ever cared enough to help, and he’s tired.

Zuko’s having a rough time in this modern AU with a sweet ending. Very nice Aang cameo.

Zuko's soul marks have been regularly burned away since before he knew what they meant. He knows that he cannot be loyal to his father and his nation while also being loyal to a soul family, so he doesn't look for them. Unfortunately, that means that he doesn't know when he's found them.

It’s a very good Zuko & the Gaang story with angsty but remarkable insight into Zuko’s character. I know this author is well regarded and I need to check out more.

The mortal identity of the Moon Spirit wasn't the only secret Zhao found in that ancient library.

The Avatar had been Zuko's only chance to return home. Now, the Avatar may be Zuko's only chance to return to being human.

Zuko is transformed into a dragon and is suffering for it. Oh the feels. This story is long form at its finest. The scenes take their time and have incredible depth. Meticulous world building (and he shows his work in the author’s note - thanks for sharing). Excellent characterization of surviving Yue. Everyone is very well written, and they all have their own problems - it’s not just a Zuko story. That said, the Zuko & Iroh stuff is top notch. Zuko’s angst is so real. Most of the story so far takes place in the north - alt season 1 finale and its aftermath. We just got the earth kingdom! Azula looms at the margins. I’m excited.

Scar Tissue by GalaxyThreads

After Zhao’s failed siege, Zuko and Iroh are captured. A few weeks later, Ozai receives a ransom from the Northern Water Tribe signed in Zuko’s blood. Unfortunately for the Firelord, Zuko’s safety is all Azula cares about.

Sokka POV? Check. Zuko injured badly? Check. Strong Iroh appearance in one chapter? Check. It has things I love. It also has something I wasn’t expecting to love - the Azula of it all. She’s going through something. And she wants to save her brother. And Sokka caring about her is very touching. And her attitude is just perfect Azula.

Deserves its popularity, it’s an incredibly emotional read. With political intrigue to boot. Very excited by the latest development.

Starting in season 1 - Aang, Katara and Sokka find Bato. They start sharing stories from their travels and Bato has a story he wants to share...

How Hakoda pulled the Fire Nation prince out of the ocean when he was 13.

Zuko is fresh into his banishment and he travels with Hakoda and his tribe for a year before returning to his Uncle.

The Gaang hears the story and they become conflicted with their opinions of Zuko. Time passes to that fateful day in Ba Sing Se when Katara is in the catacombs with Zuko. She uses the knowledge she learned about Zuko from Bato and she connects with him on a deeper level.

He makes a different choice because of it, which results in him joining the Gaang early.

I would say it’s more than a side of Zukka. The past he’s been avoiding is Iroh. I love medical whump, so this hits a lot of buttons for me. It’s also just a heartwarming story. Sokka’s trauma from his past Yue relationship is well done. I like the way the author pulls canon elements into the story. Wish I knew what happened in the last few chapters, but I suspect this is forever 7/10.

Another lovely “Zuko joins the Gaang in season 1” AU. Tagged Zukka but I don’t remember it getting there. Lovely! Great character dynamics throughout. Zuko is dealing with a serious leg injury. Healer Katara before she has waterbending! I remember the Jet story and the Blue Spirit story being especially well adapted. Ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but oh well!

After that fateful Agni Kai, Ozai makes a different call. Branded as a traitor and banished to a prison camp, Zuko learns how cruel the Fire Nation can be to its citizens. Three years, a water tribe raid, and an unexpected meeting with a gang of over-enthusiastic idealistic children puts Zuko back in the spotlight. The revolution is coming and it wants another poster boy, but Zuko is not willing to lend his face to the cause.

It took me a while to decide to read this because it’s so long, but it actually make me literally cry at point. Physical tears. Because Zuko was so lonely and he’d been through so much.

We’re gonna go chronologically just like the post I was tagged in because it’s late and I have no original thoughts!!

1. Kirishima Eijirou / Boku No Hero Academia

So sweet. My boy. And so criminally underrated. I feel like I really connected with this character back when I was in the fandom, because for those who don’t know his origin story was that he was super boring and bland in the (Japanese equivalent of) middle school, and when he got to high school he had completely changed his personality and flourished. I wanted to be him in a way, strong and brave. (Was this where issues with gender began? Maybe.)

2. Pitch Black / Rise of the Guardians

HOOOOH BOY. So many people identify Jack Frost as their first animated crush, but goddamn it if I didn’t immediately start being totally obsessed with Pitch. Now, as the years have passed, it’s become difficult for me to tell if I wanted to be with him or /be him/, but I always thought that he deserved much better than he got.

3. Sokka / Avatar the Last Airbender

Sensing a pattern? Yep it’s another unappreciated side character used for relief that I identified with and stuck to like a cactus. I actually really liked his character when I first watched the show, and now am an avid Zukka fan! Will I ever write a fic for that? Maybe. But don’t worry, Kylux will forever and always be my main source of inspo. Those blorbos were made for each other.

4. Runaan / The Dragon Prince

Listen. LISTEN. I started watching this show years ago and it is SUCH A COMFORT. I adore it. As I watched the show, of course I immediately connected with Soren, but something about Runaan’s character and the fact that he was so powerful and cut off but also a father and a lover and he NEVER GOT JUSTICE,,, it impacted me. I’ve read every SCRAP of fic I can about his life pre-TDP. Love him to death. Save my boy next season please!!

5. Saiki / The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.

Something about a generfluid aromatic main character just hit home for me. The fact that it was so normal that Saiki was born a girl and just changed his gender and no one cares is such a tiny moment in the show but it introduced the idea of “this is ok” to me. I hold that show in a special place in my heart. Doesn’t hurt that it’s also hilarious.

6. Muriel / Good Omens Season 2

We come to the present! Or, well, a few months ago present. Loved the kiss scene. Cried at the ending. Something about Muriel made me want to protect them. They’re so,,, blorbo. Kinda reminds me of Mitaka, now that I think about it 🧐

7. Jim / Our Flag Means Death

Oh boy. OHHHHHH BOY. Him. I love him. I want to be him. Just,,,, JIM. His origin story, his love interest, his bloodthirsty personality, that one scene with Spanish Jackie… just a chef’s kiss all around.

8. Armitage Hux / Star Wars - Sequel Trilogy

SAY IT WITH ME: “HE WAS DONE DIRTY!!” He had so much potential and they just SQUANDERED IT. He could have been the next Thrawn! He had the brains for it, and the wit. I don’t know why Ylasmirs aren’t used more in Star Wars cannon. Did I mention that Hux was a GENIUS?! He built a better, more powerful Death Star and was killed by A CHARACTER THE FANDOM HAD JUST MET. Also, he was the spy??? REALLY?? …I’m so normal about him.

9. Clyde / Logan Lucky

Recently watched this movie with my family and adored it. It’s up there in my list of Perfect Heist Movies! I feel like Clyde’s character was really well executed, and at no point was he made lesser for being an amputee, which I really enjoyed. Also, with the Ferrari movie coming out, maybe another heist is set to happen 👀

10. Stensland / Crashpad

Listen. This movie. This fucking movie. It was SO BAD. And kinda misogynistic? But… I really enjoyed Domhall’s acting. Stensland was lovable and dumb and my heart ached for him when he got rejected. Does that excuse the movie’s weird ending? No. But I still like the character.

Honorable Mention: Captain Phasma / Star Wars - Sequel Trilogy

I love Gwendolyn Christie. I love a woman who can beat the shit out of me. I love a woman in armor. Need I say more? Also, that character’s death was very anticlimactic and I feel like she should have been in TROS.

The current priority is the one going by "Zuko Sees Sokka Fucked Up" lol bc @witchering10123 wrote the most beautifully painful Whumptober series about Hakoda and Sokka just Going Through It and I wanted to write the last two entries from Zuko's perspective when Sokka gets found because I think that would be so good and I love pain and suffering!!

Let's see... Modern Taiwan AU is the one I'm most excited about! This will be a long one and I've never written a modern AU before but basically it's based on SKAM (particularly season 3 of Druck) so it's like a cute trans love story BUT it is also going to have a LOT to do with Taiwan's ghost month and is going to be kind of inspired my Marry My Dead Body hehehehehe

Toxic Jetko I just posted about but basically it's my take on if Zuko and Jet had tried to make things work but it really just wouldn't have. It IS based kind of note for note on a real relationship I've had in the past because the dynamic was way too Jetko and I was like wow wouldn't that be a great fanfic actually

(how terrible it is) to love something death can(‘t) touch is a FUCKING. VAMPIRE AU!!! and it's so so so far from being ready but it's uhhhhh basically like if IWTV was about Zukka and Izumi. So there is some Divorced Zukka in there and also references to asshole Zhao in flashbacks... It's going to be angsty and exciting, but probably also pretty long

i will not be great, but I’m grateful to get through is a very niche sequel to if i fade away (the awful things we do to make the head go quiet) because that is a Dead Dove fic with a cliffhanger ending and I'm excited for the healing that we will see in the sequel but it does deal with heavy shit so I haven't been super quick at writing it. It does fix the Big Problem we saw in the first one though.

ZAtD Katara Arc - So when I wrote Zuko Amongst the Dragons I rushed it a bit too much and I love the universe that has been created for it so I want to go back and revisit some stuff. I skipped over the Puppetmaster and the Southern Raiders episodes in the plot and I thought it would be cool to write something with that like a deleted scene where Dragon Zuko is with Katara dealing with these terrible things

ZAtD Izumi Epilogue - I couldn't fit this into the main story BUT I want to write like a 5-10 years later snapshot of Zukka so happy with Druk and Izumi and kind of revisit how Zuko is dealing with his humanness, and is he the Fire Lord or nah?

ZAtD Divorce Epilogue - This would be way later but I'm obsessed with the idea of Divorced Zukka BUT with their psychic connection from their Dragon Bond and like what would happen any time they get into a room together hehe

ZAtD Extended Torture Scene - This is just because I had so many ideas for when Azula interrogates Sokka at the Boiling Rock that I left out of the original fic bc it kind of disrupted the tone but I DO like whump and angst so I WOULD like to finish what I had kind of wanted for that scene muahahaha

So yeah anyway, any opinions on what I should try to finish and publish first???

Obviously, you're anonymous so I can't really stalk your ao3 account and binge your other works, but I love abo, especially in the ATLA fandom and was wondering about what else you've written and if you'd be willing to share some of it.

Hello! Thank you for reading Hearts on the Mend and sending me a nice message! I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it so far! Hopefully I’ll manage a chapter again soon, but I’ve had a bit of a dry spell with writing, so I couldn’t put a date to it.

That being said, if you’d like to read any of my other fanfics, I actually have them linked in my pinned post on this tumblr account. There’s only three of them, including Mend, but they’re all omegaverse, so perhaps you’ll like them!

The first is How to Seduce Your Husband, another zukka fic but this one has Zuko as an Omega and Sokka as the Alpha. They meet at a fancy party meant to be used as a faux mate hunt and end up together before they even know one another. When I first started writing it, I was inspired by Behind the War Worn Mask by zeerogue, which is another arranged marriage Zukka fic, as well as When in Fódlan by PumpkinSpiceHimbo, a Fire Emblem Three Houses omegaverse Claurenz short story.

Just the idea of meeting someone you’re fated to be with, and having to cover your face at first and hide your true self… it just inspired me! But as it stands, How to isn’t finished either lmao whoops

The third fic I’ve written (and still isn’t finished) is different from Mend or How to. I must preface this by saying this one is not for everyone. It’s called Heaven Sent/Hellbent and it’s not a Zukka fic. Instead, it’s a Piandao/Zuko omegaverse story.

In HS/H Piandao is forced to marry Zuko basically right after Zuko gets burned by Ozai, and Piandao is like “fuck that” and basically makes it his life’s goal to keep Zuko as his ward. After Aang appears and takes down Ozai, Piandao officially annuls their sham of a marriage and Zuko becomes the next Fire Lord. This fic jumps between the past, when Zuko is living with Piandao as his ward, and the present, when Zuko is several years into being the Fire Lord and is now being pressured to produce an heir to the throne.

As you can see, it’s got some crazy things going on, but I did fuck around with the age gap in that one. Piandao actually doesn’t have an official age in the Avatar universe, we just know that canonically he’s the youngest of the white lotus members, so I changed things around a bit. But there’s no underage sex in the fic and the characters don’t get romantically involved until Zuko is in his mid 20s so… take that as you will. Again, it’s not a fic for everyone and I won’t be upset if you’re like “ew, no.”

Anyway, these are the three current writing projects I’ve got going so far. I do hope you enjoy them, whether it’s just the one or all of them! I like writing but it’s difficult trying to stay afloat in this capitalist hellscape and manage my free time otherwise. But knowing there’s still people out there who like my stories enough to send me little notes and questions always makes me smile :)

three ships: umm currently? i’d say zukka from atla since that fandom is my current fixation. i really like jegulus from the marauders fandom. then perpollo from pjo because im currently writing a fic with them!

first ever ship: that’s a hard one… when i first started getting into fandom, i wasn’t very into ships. i think the first ship i ever started to really like was hedric because of this one fic i read years ago.

last song: last song i was listening to was hold on by bella sisoski cause i heard it on yt and it sounded pretty good.

last film: i’m trynna get through all the star wars films right now! i’ve finished the first two, and it’s pretty good so far.

currently reading: i’m reading game of thrones right now. not very far in, but it seems pretty interesting. i’m planning on watching the show after i finish the books so im excited.

currently watching: im trying to get through agents of shield because a commenter from ao3 recommended it to me! i’m on season 3 right now, and it’s really good.

currently consuming: i’m trying to get into the marauders fandom right now to be honest. they’ve got sooo many fans, and i like fandoms with lots of people.

currently craving: this one obscure fandom no one knows of so i just write a bunch of content for and then consume it myself lmao.

Nine People You'd Like To Get To Know Better

I was tagged by @transboyzuko, and it's been a minute since I've done anything like this so here goes:

Three Ships: RMS Olympic, RMS Titanic, HMHS Britannic. The only three Olympic-class ocean liners ever built by Harland & Wolff for the White Star Line. Titanic's story is well-known, of course. Britannic was a hospital ship in World War I until she hit a mine in the Aegean and sank. Olympic's career lasted 24 years before she was retired and sold for scrap. Why do I know this? Because I have a morbid fascination with maritime disasters.

First Ever Ship: Heero Yuy/Duo Maxwell. I grew up watching Mobile Suit Gundam Wing on Toonami, and these boys were my bias. I still hold this fic up as one of the best I've ever read. Although, thinking about it, my first actual ship was probably Sirius Black/Remus Lupin via The Shoebox Project by dorkorific and ladyjaida, which I first read on Livejournal. But that was less something I actively shipped and more a ship I actively enjoyed.

Last Song: Hypomania, by Coping Method. My music taste currently vacillates between dance pop/electronica and heavy metal.

Last Film: Uh. Fuck, I dunno. I don't watch a lot of movies anymore. I did do a double Barbenheimer over the summer, though.

Currently Reading: So This Is Ever After by F. T. Lukens and Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, but progress has been slow. Just prior to starting them both I devoured the Simon Snow trilogy, though, so maybe I just have poor time management skills.

Currently Watching: myself age by steady increments. I also don't watch a lot of TV or streaming series, although that's less from lack of desire to watch and more from being busy with other things. Well, I have been watching Money, Explained, but that's for work and does not therefore count.

Currently Consuming: I'm between hyperfixations at the moment. I have been working my way through Bret Devereaux's collected blog posts on the Battle of Helm's Deep to cope.

Currently Craving: rice. And the next part of Dog's In Love 2. But I can get rice.

One thing I find really interesting about fics that have Hakoda and Zuko as a tag is that they almost always follow the sentence “Zuko sees Hakoda like he’s his dad” It always applies because depending on how you say it it means entirely different things. If you’ve read fics pertaining to these two you probably know what I mean but I’m gonna explain.

Option 1: Zuko sees Hakoda like he’s his dad as in Zuko has a terrible father so he assumes Hakoda is going to hurt him (and sometimes he does). Sometimes in these fics Zuko will try to protect Sokka and Katara from Hakoda whether it be talking them up so Hakoda won’t see them as failures or literally stepping between them when he thinks he’s going to hurt them (which he isn’t). This option has been present in a significant amount of Zukka fics I’ve read, often after boiling rock. Sometimes it starts out with a fearful relationship and then will transition into the second option.

Option 2: Zuko sees Hakoda as his dad. Dadkoda fics! Very wholesome, Hakoda somehow find Zuko and goes “that’s a child” and decides that the child deserves better than what he currently has. Sometimes you have slow burn adoption fics where you start out with option one (like Salvage by MuffinLance). Though given that it’s Zuko there tends to be at least a sprinkle of option one as he’s never going to trust a father figure right off the bat.

Now for me to shamelessly recommend fics. I already mentioned Salvage with its slow burn adoption

If I wrote a fanfic where Aang didn’t get trapped in the iceberg and was taken prisoner by the fire nation soon after he left the air temple because of the war but he found a fire nation nonbender wife and had airbender kids so maybe the next avatar would be able to learn airbending, and he finds a way to sneak out of the fire nation with his kids

(this would just be lore not even part of the real plot im getting to the real plot in a second)

And the next avatar is avatar Yue and it’s a yue x katara x suki polyam pairing and it’s also zukka and mailee,,, would you guys, read it;,,, and it follows the journey of Yue as the avatar,,,, (and maybe earthbender avatar Korra sequel if I finish it)

+ basically how the Zuko plot would work is since the fire nation let Aang get away they needed to capture the next avatar at all costs (political reasons) and when she finds out she’s the avatar (younger age like Aang because they rushed it war and all) she runs away to the southern water tribe on a stolen sky bison from one of the airbender kids of Aang and zuko’s sent out to capture her and finds his lucky break bc she left the fortress that is the northern water tribe

(because you know in korra we find out there’s another group of bison we just find this out sooner in this fic)

I’m freaking out bc i love this idea and it might be the first fanfic I actually post on ao3 would you guys read it
