okay my one qualm about the pjo episode today, that I just HAVE to address, is that they did not utilize the ingenious cinematic tool that is The Montage enough.

the lotus casino IS A MONTAGE. They are meant to be doing things!!!!! Many things!!!! Playing games and going to water parks and having spa treatments and stuffing their faces!!!! Annabeth plays a sims game!! Percy figures out that they’re stuck!!! Not this they know from the start and get out in twenty minutes business.

like…………. a montage would’ve been perfect, in fact they could’ve kept in the rest of the episode and new stuff they added, it wasn’t even a forty minute episode! Montage would’ve fit PERFECTLY.

#book one was so LIGHT and HAPPY and EVERYONE LIVES HAPPILY EVER AFTER #and i found it a bit saccharine and wished it had touched more on the actual reality for the characters but i LOVED it #and now im listening to arthur justify his existence and be interrogated and politicised and its genuinely making me uncomfortable #in a good way! its great writing. but also the trans issues etc that its referencing are a little close to home and all #definitely not devouring this one in a couple days. i need to take breaks because its making me feel things #nyxtalks #the house in the cerulean sea #somewhere beyond the sea #cerulean chronicles #tj klune #its so good. its so so good. just listening to arthur be grilled in that hearing is hard #you already know theres going to be no change. there never is. but now its about arthur personally #its good. its good. its just a lot #i guess this is the switch from linus to arthur. its different when it affects you

i really do love the daniel x fake rashid dynamic just for how delicious the power dynamics are. the assumed age gap and servitude putting daniel in a position of power that he is not really in at all in dubai in a house of a vampire. but that same assumed dynamic giving “rashid” knowledge that daniel does not have as the personal assistant to a vampire, who is fed on by him, and as daniel assumes, he also sleeps with. Daniel is jealous of this proximity to louis but jealous of “rashid” himself as well, wondering how he tastes.

then of course, the fact this is all a premise. Daniel is in no position of power at all, hes being played with, toyed with, all his private comments and desires are transparently observed by not one but two vampires that have the power of life and death over him.

but they ALLOW this, they allow daniel’s perceived power, his desire, putting themselves in a false submission to him as both an interviewee and a servant, letting him feel this power as a taste, but every time he gets comfortable in it, reminding him that its a game. wonderful truly
