“In the war film, a soldier can hold his buddy—as long as his buddy is dying on the battlefield. In the western, Butch Cassidy can wash the Sundance Kid’s naked flesh—as long as it is wounded. In the boxing film, a trainer can rub the well-developed torso and sinewy back of his protege—as long as it is bruised. In the crime film, a mob lieutenant can embrace his boss like a lover—as long as he is riddled with bullets.
Violence makes the homo-eroticism of many “male” genres invisible; it is a structural mechanism of plausible deniability.”
–Tarantino’s Incarnational Theology: Reservoir Dogs, Crucifixions, and Spectacular Violence. Kent L. Brintnall.

Are you more of FNAF or Jojo? (Ofc you will then say, I can be both-)
Why pick when they are so similar/hj
#ask reply#I GOT asked this recently on insta as well!#to sum it up I do like both!#JJBA and FNAF are probably the two series I’ve been most obsessed with?#where I literally draw it everyday#I adore both these series sm#and for very different reasons so it’s hard to truly compare them#though FNAF may be more near and dear to my heart#just cause I have nostalgia bias with it#JJBA is a newer thing but obviously it really hit right for me#anyway I’m spitting here#I could of kept going with comparisons but insta stories only have sm room

I'm only halfway through the second phase of Predathos (which, to be clear is an incredible vibe for a bossfight, love a good head & hands/multitarget-same-entity boss) but I cannot shake the feeling of disappointment and just dissatisfaction I have had with this campaign that definitely started with Dusk/Yu, got followed up handily with the first Delilah/Sun Tree fight and then has been unfortunately reinforced with every discussion surrounding the Prime Deities since Hearthdell. This campaign is fascinating to pick apart, I have been really enjoying pulling apart why it isn't working compared to C1 or C2. But as much as I'm having fun dissecting where the worldbuilding has led to the current weaknesses in the gods' argument or reading other people's incisive commentary on the lack of personalities on the Ruby Vanguard's end, the "girlfailure" nonsense, etc etc, man do I wish this campaign was better than it is.
There are so many avenues of improvement -
Matt telling everyone to prep and write characters for this campaign instead of a C2-esque character-focused campaign.
Matt working religious organisations into the world properly.
The cast engaging with Marquet as a genuine location rather than set-dressing.
Otohan, Ozo and the rest of the Vanguard having more than "*insert snappy line here*" for their personalities.
No Delilah.
Bell's Hells having an iota of curiosity for anything outside of their own selves, including but not limited to: the gods, religious worship, the Elemental Titans and why they were sundered, how the people of Exandria feel about the gods, Vasselheim and its role in suppressing information about Predathos, Ludinus Da'Leth's plan and how it would still break the world if they did it in his place
I don't know why all of this fell into place in the way that it did, but it did. We can endlessly speculate why - the cast resting on their laurels after C2, not having enough time between the animated shows and Daggerheart and Candela Obscura and, and, and - but at the end of the day I really do hope that whatever form the final campaign wrap-up takes, they burn the damn questions asking the cast "what if the world was made of pudding and this character and this character kissed?" and instead pick questions that get them to introspect for a potential Campaign 4. Otherwise I don't know what will happen, but it sure as hell won't be Mighty Nein part 2: Issylra Boogaloo.
#well now why can#joe schmoe level 20 champion fighter beat god#cr spoilers#none of these are my unique observations; like any good review paper introduction it brings other people's work together#like a bad review paper I am not citing my sources though because i do that enough in work#i am just. so. tired. of this campaign not working on every level#that post about how predathos-as-boss and predathos-as-lore-entity are opposed really sums this campaign up: inconsistent across so many#story beats tones and themes that it brings the whole world down with it. this is also why i'm not a fan of fighting the gods in ttrpgs#you end up either obliterating a party who are underequipped to fight a genuine god; or your god loses and people wonder . so you justify it#it would've been vastly more interesting if predathos could see mortals. could eat mortals. would eat mortals to get to its true prey#if we're going by tinkerbell rules for the gods surely eating the children clapping would get their attention and draw them out#but no. every punch pulled. every opportunity for a genuinely interesting narrative failed at the first hurdle#i fully expect (pessimistically) for the gods to roll over on a dc 20 persuasion check btw. i have no hope for a genuinely interesting end#critical role#cr discourse#bell's hells

okay so i was thinking of a joke earlier about how in DPDC Amity Park's slogan "a great place to live" is not only city propaganda but also the city lording it over the rest of America for being normal. But then I remembered that, despite how many DCU Cities with heroes in it there are, the amount of cities in America without heroes still far outnumber the amount of cities in America WITH heroes.
So I did a little digging so the joke would still land. Something most heroes have in common is that they operate in major cities. What makes a major city? I found that the general consensus is that the population is roughly over or around a million. THEN I looked up the populations of cities in the DCU that I thought of off the top of my head. So Gotham, Metropolis, Starling City, Central City, Jump City. All of them ranked up to millions in population (most of them were in the tens of millions).
Amity Park's wikipedia describes it as being similar to specifically Philadelphia, Chicago, and San Francisco.
Philadelphia's Population: 1.576 million as of 2021 Chicago's Population: 2.697 million as of 2021 San Francisco: 815,201 as of 2021
Whiiich means that Amity Park if we take that from canon, is probably a major city. There are approximately 19,000 cities in America with probably less than a hundred that are major cities. Adding the DCU major cities wouldn't skew the data too much.
Which MEANS that I can make the joke that Amity Park's "great place to live" is not only just typical city propaganda, but also its Amity Park lording it over the other major cities for being one of the only major cities that doesn't have problems bad enough to warrant a superhero or a vigilante. Cue stage left the Fentons and Phantom :)
Amity Parkers were probably SO proud that they didn't need a superhero. They didn't have to worry about things like 'world ending threats' and 'super-powered individuals' and 'staggering property damage'. And then enter Fentons.
It also could be used as an excuse for why nobody took notice to Amity Park getting ghosts if folks like me aren't huge fans of the notion of a media blackout via Tucker, Technus, or the US Government. Or if you want to keep Amity Park as its urban city self. Amity Park's news on ghosts gets drowned out in a week because there's news on more popular, well-known cities going on every other day. The shit going on in Amity Park is every other major city's regular Tuesday and it gets filtered as such.
#dp x dc#dp x dc crossover#dpxdc#dpdc#plus amity suddenly going 'we have ghosts' could be seen as a case of city-wide FOMO finally hitting so nobody believes them#and thats if the belief of ghosts not being real is as strong as it is in dp canon#the media blackout could also be /city-induced/ too#where amity parkers are so proud of being 'normal' and 'not having superheros' that many of them try and deny the existence of Phantom#and the mayor and news sources themselves just. stubbornly refuse to let news of ghosts get out to the other cities#do you know how much shit they'll get?? they'll be a laughingstock!#gothamites would never leave them alone. neither would central city or the metropolitans or starling city or--#the other big cities will make fun of them :(#my new favorite hc that stemmed from this is that every major city in the dcu is rivaling with each other#there's a lot you can experiment with this idea imo lmao#this whole post sums up my writing and thinking process pr well tbh#this stemmed because im making a childhood friends au short story doc and wanted to avoid the typical tropes about how AP went undetected#from the rest of the US. bc. im not a fan of the media blackout idea via tucker/technus/gov and i wanted to keep AP an urban city#so i had to come up with something else#hence me looking into DCU cities and how many there are and realizing that there is a decent amount of other cities other than the main#popular ones and being DELIGHTED because then i could use that as an excuse for why amity went overlooked. bc there are many cities with#heroes in it. so its not surprising if another city gets a hero TOO. plus the news also focusing on more popular heroes and cities so again#the news of amity getting a hero gets drowned out by whatever new thing the JL or someone from the JL did that week

idk why there's so much discussion around the ~*morality of traumadumping*~ when it's a VERY solvable social conundrum. all you need to do is ask something like "hey is it ok if i talk about this thing? it's kind of heavy" and respect the answer
#it's both very normal and good to talk to people about stuff that's weighing on you#AND it can be very uncomfortable to have someone unload a lot of really heavy things at you at once without warning#this is not a zero sum game?#?????????????#i guess sometimes the problem is that ppl have a different measure for what counts as 'traumadumping'#i personally associate it w the time i was a volunteer at a summer camp and one of the teens asked me if they could get my advice#and when i was like yeah sure they proceeded to tell me their entire life story which involved several deaths and horrible things#which left me in a very awkward position of Um What Did You Want My Advice For Specifically#but like i was fine!! i was the Responsible Adult who had signed up for this#and they were a teen who needed someone to listen to them!!

mythology anon here again! Totally sorry for the late reply, I fell asleep before you answered my other ask lol
as for Orpheus and Eurydice, there isn’t much about either of them that isn’t mainstream myth other than a few cool details that come from oral discrepancies
for one, it’s very well possible that Orpheus had been a completely mortal Thracian king who fell in love with a nymph and wooed her with his song, but he could’ve also been the son of Apollo and the muse, Calliope- which would’ve explained why Apollo gave him his golden lyre in the first place
Orpheus was also said to have brought the worship of various gods to different regions during his travels
Orpheus also operated as a part of the Argonauts to help them escape from the Sirens
In some variations of the myth, Eurydice was killed by a viper that had been sent by her jealous sisters, while in others she fell into a pit of them escaping an assaulting satyr
and in one or two variations, Orpheus actually didn’t look back because of pride or fear or hubris, he’d just made it out of the underworld and looked back before Eurydice could as well
(that last one might be false, I vaguely remember some book talking about it, but I’ve read a good bit on Greek mythology, and I’ve only seen is corroborated on a lone Reddit thread- from which I quickly got distracted by a story of a non-consensual Dionysus ritual/offering 😬 [he would not like that])
-humble mythology anon 🏺
:o ooooooooooo nods nods nods thank you for sharing I love that
I’ve been seeing a few of their stories in ig, and so I wanted to learn sum about them :3
Some stuff I saved
#if you’ve followed me long enough yk my brain immediately went ok priceraven#BDJSJJD#im attracted to tragedy#which im aware there are many in greek mythology#idk if this one’s greek btw but the story of why roses are red suddenly popped up in my mind as i type this#like…was it sum where a goddess once loved roses very much and a mortal(?) was like bet lemme give you all the roses and they fell in love#then some god(?) was being jealous and killed that mortal and painted the roses red with their blood and the goddess was like NOOO and sum#then roses became love flowers#i could be rambling nonsense#it could very well be just a made up story LMAO#thank you anon i really appreciate your stories i like them#🏺anon#ask response#thanks for the ask <3

the types of brain you need to have to really be the kind of person to hold elain and nesta age as a ¨gotcha!¨ as evidence that they are oh so terrible about their first interactions with feyre... one of them is just like one year older if not two than her... yall now that, right. thats common knowledge... right?

I think Mythal is right.
#datv spoilers#mythal#dragon age the veilguard#this dialogue probably sums up why i relate to hated “mother” characters like this#it depresses me knowing how much we sacrifice only for ppl to hate you for it#things could have been so much worse#and people never know#you get blamed for trying to prevent calamity#anyway#i know this is more about her decision to join the evanuris and rule over the elves with elgar'nan#but her story reminds me of battered woman syndrome#and a woman who wont leave an abusive situation for the sake of the children#ending up becoming an enabler who will eventually be hated by her children#i feel for her#thinking about her too much makes me pretty sad

Earthdamar
Lights flickered. The distant dots in the dark void reminded you of the battle. Echoes of hollow screams. Explosions of ships. Your former comrades. Disintegrated by the talons of the dragon laced with golden armour. Eyes and wings glowing in purple light. Rivalling the stars and galaxies. Despite its glow, it was greedy. Swallowing light and hope alike. Until nothing remained.
Amongst the weak spots there was one strong and stable enough to hold your gaze. Never shying away from sight once it had appeared. Rounding its mother star since eons ago. Blue. Blue and white, with tints of green and yellow. Unlike the dark tiles and circling walls appearing black in the red light surrounding the broad window.
Steps drew closer. Following the example of screams. Projected from the walls. Drilling deep into the depths of your brain. Doors detecting the wandering presence behaved with wordless command. Sealing you in with the one responsible for the massacre. Commander of the taloned hands, standing next to you without his draconic armour. Still, his eyes emitted the same ominous glow his shell did not so long ago.
“Once we extract the Earthdamar from earth, and make Velgearians into true living beings, we will return to the front lines.” His voice was as sharp as ever. Proud posture fitting the thin smile he was carrying since his victory. Stare transfixed on the planet in blue. Until they locked onto a different target. You.
“Why are you shaking?” For a moment his never wavering grin seemed to falter. A dangerous glint glared at you for a heartbeat. It was so fast you were not even sure, if it was there to begin with. No. His eyes lit up with something else. His stance reinforced as he faced in your direction.
“I see.” He interpreted. “You can’t contain your excitement. I was afraid you were starting to follow his ideals. But it was you, who made victory even possible. Without you we wouldn’t be here.” Turning toward the window you never left his line of sight. “You can be proud of yourself. Thanks to you, the war will turn into our favour. Rush Duels are just the final step. Our monsters will crush the enemy’s forces until there will be nothing left of them.”
Ships began to align in formation in the endless void. Stars bleeding red in contrast to the dark blue exteriors. The Commander reached his hand out toward you. His smile softened while he addressed you. “Let us end it together. For the Velgear Star Cluster.”
Take his hand?
Yes
No

Arcane ending credits but instead of silence What Could Had Been is playing
#DON'T READ THE TAGS IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS#we could had learned about Mel's powers#we could had learned about what Lest did during and after Mel's disappearance#we could had have Cait not just understanding the error of her ways but being the first of the councilors to apologize#we could had the divide between Zaun and Piltover be bridged through willingness to atone and to forgive#we could had learned what Ambressa even did to make the Black Rose hunt her like that#we could had seen what Signed did in order to “revive” Ori without having access to Victor's powers#we could had had literally any other line than the “dirt under your fingernails” as a declaration of love#cause damn the in-world context does not make it sound as sweet and grounded as it could be in any other situation#and i think that sums up my feelings about the ending#great show with an okay ending but it could had been (and was hinting towards being) amazing and unique#a bit of a shame we didn't get that but hey#it had some of the best animation that i have ever seen. great music and a lot of story and characters that were fantastic

With the prevalence of online scams I'm just going to blanket answer any asks all at once: I don't care what you want money for, stuffing your made up sob stories into my ask box-- instead of onto you blog where people who might fall for it will actually respond --will just get you blocked. If you're someone I have the spoons and trust to actually help, you already have better ways to contact me than my ask box.
#lighthouse posting#there are a thousand made up sob stories you could use#and I'll treat them all the same with a block#you're literally asking for high 3 to low 4 figure sums#how did you possibly get the impression that would be a reasonable ask at all what the fuck?

If I see one more person thinking Hajime wants a buzz cut bc he wants to look more masculine I will explode
#1) ITS LITERALLY NOT HE WANTS ONE BC ITS MORE ECONOMICAL#2) his relationship to gender is far more complex than you realize and it could never be summed up by him simply wanting to look more masc#in fact he DOESNT necessarily have a problem with being feminine and want to be more masc#actually read Hajime focused stories for once and don’t just assume based off tidbits#his character is not simply ‘transmasc coded femboy’ YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND#also dare I say he’s not even really transmasc coded. i have no problems with the hc and I GUESS you could read it that way#but in canon his relationship to gender could be much better explained via an agender or even intersex lens

rewatching house led to me infodumping at my mother about ao3 and gen z purity culture and honestly . if she didn't want these things to happen to her she shouldn't have had children with a man so incredibly neurodivergent
#there was a logical progression to the infodump . but i fear it was only logical in an adhd way#bc my friend went ''u can rlly tell this is early 2000s bc they wouldn't let him say things like that today''#which led to the ''they Could theoretically make it but like . toned down and also no character would ever be able to agree w him''#which led to the thing of how audiences seem unable to separate depiction from endorsement#like the whole ''if a character is transphobic and nobody in-world calls them evil and wrong then the creator must be transphobic'' thing#which led to the tag system on ao3 and the proship/anti thing abt whether the existence of the archive warning system means they're —#- endorsing/supporting works that contain 'problematic' themes and content#which led to me ranting abt the reasons Why ppl create dark media (eg a story abt csa could be written by a nonce or a survivor)#and my mother was just Sat There like 🧍🏻♂️ bc she's a 60 yr old woman and doesn't care about fanfiction or proship/anti discourse#i do this rant/infodump a Lot tho like it's on my mind very often . i love rambling for nearly an hour abt stupid internet culyure#also the quote i think best sums up my entire stance on the proship vs anti thing is from sarah z's video on it#''i am a tax paying adult woman not a member of a fucking fandom war sports team'' which is so me except that i'm a man n i don't pay taxes#((i'm not a tax evader i just don't meet the threshold to pay them))#anygay . i get on a plane in like 15 hours and i need to sleep#jay screams into the void
