Thinking more about this post from @hardly-an-escape and I think one of the things that intrigues me so much about bucktommy is how fundamentally different they are.

Buck wears his heart on his sleeve, he's the butt of the joke a lot (and he usually doesn't mind because that means people are paying enough attention to him), he is warm and open and genuine straight off the bat. He has no control over his facial expressions and can't help himself when he feels and info-dump coming on.

And Tommy is reserved, quiet, introspective. He makes the jokes to deflect attention, and he listens, quietly, carefully, making fast assessments and reading expressions. He is generous with his time and his attention, in a manner that can read as subdued even though he is soaking up information to reference for later. He is also not great at hiding his feelings but his expressions and his manner of moving and taking up space has such a different tone to it than Buck's -- he is comfortable in his skin but also aware enough of himself to reel it back when he is unsure.

And they compliment each other. Tommy throws out gallows humor and Buck internalizes that to make a parallel later on (I guess that night was the most fun I've had since being struck by lightning). Buck is a smiley disaster of a man at the bball game and Tommy quips to hide his interest. Buck pouts about his not-a-date leaving to go on duty, fully not believing Tommy will make it to the wedding, and Tommy catches that look, catching his gaze long enough to make sure he understands he's gonna fucking try (and he does, but the moment of assurance before the hug goodbye just means a lot to me even without the follow through).

They meet each other half-way because their flaws and insecurities and their ways of moving through the world are inherently different and complimentary.

know that it’s not the point of the movie but I really hope they establish ken is indeed barbie’s boyfriend. she doesn’t need to kiss him or hold his hand or say I love you but we need that true devoted obsessed boyfriend + badass girlfriend to be canon because you know Ryan Gosling’s Ken would let Margot Robbie’s Barbie commit war crimes in the name of being a supportive partner

Happy EDS awareness month!

I'm a webcomic artist with EDS. be aware.

EDS affects many parts of my life. I have chronic fatigue, chronic pain, and I need to use a cane! I often find myself ruminating on themes of chronic illness in my work, whether or not I am intending to include them.

I already can't paint anymore, it hurts my hands too much... Anything that requires small details or precise motions will hurt me for days. I have a lot of grief around it. But working digitally allows me to still create!

I animate, I illustrate, I get to tell my stories. I have to go slow, take huge breaks (often against my will) and recover slowly. But, working in this space allows me the grace to do this.

So, I just wanted to share a bit of my experience with my audience, and say thank you for reading my work and supporting me! It means the world to me, and I hope maybe someone in my audience feels a little more seen through me sharing this. It causes me pain, but I love myself; and that includes my disability.
