eddie who tells bad jokes and steve who makes it his life’s mission to Not Laugh lest eddie Gets Started.

he’s sat through the skeleton that couldn’t fight because he didn’t have the guts.

he’s blown air out of his nose and kept his composure at melons getting jealous at weddings because they can’t elope.

and he’s put his head in his hands at enough knock knock jokes to last a lifetime.

the one that gets him comes on a friday night.

it’s been a long week and steve is within minutes of a deep sleep with the promise of a day off work ahead of him. what could be better than this?

he hears eddie shuffle behind him and his arm tightens where its slung over steve’s waist.

“baby? you still awake?”

steve stretches and hums a noncommittal sound. hasn’t decided yet if he’s asleep or not. if he’s not he’s veeeeeery close.

“if james hetfield got legally ordained-“

steve groans, “ugh, eddie-“

his palm flattens over steve’s stomach and the rubbing of his thumb soothes steve’s irritation at whatever shit he’s about to spout at god knows what time of night.

“wait hear me out!” it’s only because steve likes his sleepy voice so much that he entertains this. “if hetfield got legally ordained and then married kermit and miss piggy, he’d be the pastor of muppets.”

it’s quiet for a split second before steve breaks.

he laughs so hard he can’t breathe and very regretfully tells eddie that he thinks all his jokes are funny.

he doesn’t top that joke for a while.

ok this thought is undercooked and i don’t have my adhd meds so bear with me but i think the reason why neurodivergents are drawn to this site is more or less because the world feels random to us, like everyone else got a manual for Socializing 101 and we didn’t, and so we don’t really know how to fit in or follow the general neurotypical code of conduct or the rules of social exchanges and it can feel isolating and overwhelming. but on tumblr chaos is the norm. like there aren’t any rules here, you don’t have to abide by standard social laws. it feels natural and genuinely enjoyable as a form of social media because we can revel in our weirdness and not be judged (at least not in a way that bears any weight) because we’re on tumblr, we’re all weird here. i think this is also why NDs typically find chaotic jokes funny as opposed to traditional forms of humor. the unexpected is the punchline; you don’t have to look into it for hidden social cues

My 13th tumblrversary is today, as well as the 10th Dash-Con anniversary today, and the only words I have to share about it are the lyrics to Metallica's "One" -- specifically the "DARKNESS IMPRISONING ME" line, and that this is my curated poison bog, and I'll never leave

I've seen some "Jason wouldn't listen to death metal" posts around, and if we're talking about the more traditional death metal or stuff that's more on the side of techdeath, I agree. I can't see Jason putting on, idk, Beyond Creation or Chthe'ilist or even Death to listen to.

Now, if we're talking about melodeath, death-adjacent or death metal mixed with prog (bands like Persefone or Black Crown Initiate (or Opeth, obviously)), that I think he'd listen to. Those are all subgenres that are very bombastic, emotional and dramatic. Like, look me in the eyes and tell me he wouldn't also be into the concept of albums like Still Life and My Arms, Your Hearse.

That's not to mention death/doom (Paradise Lost!!!!!!) and the entire 00's gothic* metal era which also had lots of death metal influence.

*since "gothic" metal is a controversial term, what I mean by it is bands like (early) Tristania, (early) Sirenia, Trail of Tears, Theatre of Tragedy, (very early) Within Temptation, etc.
