Langblr Reactivation Challenge | Week 1, Day 1

Self-introduction ^_^

Hello! My name is Vance, and I speak English natively and Spanish as a heritage language. I’m studying Japanese, German, and Lithuanian.

Japanese - I have been learning Japanese for roughly 6.5 years, and I am N2 level. I was N3 certified 3 years ago, but I have yet to take the JLPT again. It is not my main target language as of late, but Japanese holds a special place in my heart, and it’s the language I gravitate towards when I need to work through my emotions. It is a very personal language to me that helps me understand myself.

German - I have been learning German for about 5 years, and I am B2 level. German has been the most difficult language for me to learn. Because of that and all the hurdles I’ve overcome, I feel very attached to it. We’ve been through hell and back together (lol). I am most extraverted and animated when speaking German compared to other languages!

Lithuanian - I have been studying Lithuanian for just over 1 year, and I am A2 level. I have much to learn, and I am very eager to grow closer to this language. I want you to know that I would sell my soul if it convinced one of you start learning Lithuanian seriously. /hj

What I hope to get out of this challenge: 

I would like this to be an ease back into consistent language learning / involvement with the langblr community. I used to be a god at langblr challenges, but I haven’t had too much success with them in the past year. I’d like to see this challenge to the end if possible. 

I will not force myself to write in my TLs every day for this post. English will be perfectly okay this time, and I hope that helps me make it to the end of this challenge. 

I can’t wait to see how it goes!

for the sake of brevity i'm gonna ignore out-of-canon namesakes ("x character is named after y celebrity/place/thing", etc)- but yes!!

a couple minor characters in my main story the town of haven are named raine ("rain") fenn and rainer ("ray-neer") fenn-tapang; raine is rainer's aunt!

another character's middle name was given after their deceased older sibling's first name.

29. are any of your characters nameless? (in that there is no legal record of them existing, they just don’t have names in canon, or history remembers them but not their name?)

i'm sure plenty of my monster/demon/god-thing characters aren't like... legally registered... but i'm gonna go over the Special Cases i do remember off the top of my head!

a character wasn't named or registered at birth; her birth mother is one of the villains of ttoh and only referred to her as an aberration -> people called her abby for short -> it stuck -> eventually she got her papers sorted ~age 5 when she was separated from her family, and only knew her own first name as "abby". she was given the last name "novak" in the system

an archaic monster was dubbed "chamaeleontis" by those who saw it, he goes by cam for short

various cases of immortals using different or changing names throughout the ages

some characters in a specific social group in haven are superstitious about using or invoking the direct names of deceased or more powerful members of the group, so titles are made up and used instead

there are also various cases in haven of people just changing or going by names not matching their papers, whether for gender or hijinks reasons

49. are any of your characters certified Bird Nerds ™?
