I am once again back from the dead and here to post about what I’ve been hyperfixating on for the past week: marching band uniforms for my upcoming webcomic This One Time at Band Camp.
Tumblr media
This file accidentally got huge so click on the image for better quality.
Also I did a 10 page research paper on Michigan and which I found the band calendars of 3 Michigan marching bands (I live nowhere near Michigan) and wrote about the crime rate of Detroit.

positively obsessed with how Rockstar Lestat is the exact kind of guy one of my friends would show me a picture of and swear he’s really sexy and cool and brilliant. Whole time I’m thinking “oh dear GOD” staring at a trainwreck weirdo and wondering what’s happened to everybody else that is absolutely missing me. jesus christ he’s blond

My Crush: Alyson Hannigan (from Buffy to American Pie to HIMYM)
In the pantheon of Hollywood stars, few have achieved the level of adoration and respect as Alyson Hannigan. With a career spanning decades, Hannigan has captivated audiences with her undeniable talent, infectious charm, and unparalleled versatility. From her breakout role as the lovable Willow Rosenberg in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" to her iconic portrayal of Michelle Flaherty in the raunchy comedy "American Pie" and her beloved character Lily Aldrin in the hit sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" (HIMYM), Hannigan has left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.
Born on March 24, 1974, in Washington, D.C., Alyson Hannigan's journey to stardom began at a young age. Blessed with natural talent and a passion for performing, she quickly found success in the world of acting. However, it was her role as Willow Rosenberg in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" that catapulted her to international fame. As Buffy's loyal and quirky best friend, Hannigan's portrayal of Willow resonated with audiences around the globe, earning her a dedicated fanbase and critical acclaim.
But it wasn't just Hannigan's acting prowess that made her stand out; it was her ability to infuse each role with depth, authenticity, and humor. In "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," Hannigan tackled complex storylines with grace and nuance, portraying Willow's journey from a shy, bookish teenager to a powerful witch with emotional depth and vulnerability. Her on-screen chemistry with co-stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Nicholas Brendon added an extra layer of magic to the show, solidifying her status as a fan favorite.
Following her success on "Buffy," Hannigan continued to showcase her range as an actress, taking on roles that pushed boundaries and challenged stereotypes. In 1999, she starred as Michelle Flaherty in the cult classic "American Pie," a role that would cement her status as a comedic powerhouse. As the sweet and innocent band camp geek, Hannigan delivered a performance that was both hilarious and endearing, earning her widespread acclaim and establishing her as a leading lady in the world of comedy.
Of course, no discussion of Alyson Hannigan's career would be complete without mentioning her iconic role as Lily Aldrin in "How I Met Your Mother." As Ted Mosby's best friend and confidante, Lily brought heart, humor, and a touch of mischief to the beloved sitcom. Hannigan's portrayal of the quirky kindergarten teacher won over audiences with her impeccable comedic timing and undeniable chemistry with co-stars Jason Segel, Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders, and Josh Radnor.
Throughout her career, Alyson Hannigan has embraced her sexuality and body positivity, often showcasing her figure in various film and television roles. From her memorable scenes in "American Pie" to her playful antics in "How I Met Your Mother," Hannigan has never shied away from embracing her physicality as a part of her characters. Her confidence and comfort in her own skin have inspired countless fans and served as a powerful reminder that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
In an industry often plagued by unrealistic beauty standards, Hannigan's unapologetic embrace of her body sends a powerful message of self-love and acceptance. Whether she's playing a witch, a band camp geek, or a kindergarten teacher, Hannigan's authenticity and charisma shine through, reminding us all of the importance of embracing who we are, flaws and all.
As Alyson Hannigan continues to dazzle audiences with her talent and charm, one thing is clear: her legacy in Hollywood is secure. From her early days as Willow Rosenberg to her unforgettable performances in "American Pie" and "How I Met Your Mother," Hannigan has left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry, proving time and time again that she is a force to be reckoned with. And while her body may have been exposed in various movies and TV shows, it is her talent, wit, and undeniable star power that truly shine brightest of all.

Slowly, slowly designing characters for my marching band comic.
Tumblr media
I made an entire to-do list and I think I’m gonna be slumped on character design for the next 2 years.
Anyway, here’s Ryenn. He’s a sweet kid and the section leader for the saxophones. It’s his first year being in any sort of leadership position for mb, and oh boy is it fun being a section leader and being afraid of confrontation.
Ryenn is actually vaguely based off of my saxophone section leader, who I’m pretty good acquaintances with.

I was someone's sexual awakening
Can I tell you guys about that time I was someone's sexual awakening? Yes? Cool.
So it was a couple of years ago in this highschool drama group I was in. We were doing this play that nobody wanted to do but was dragged into it by the director because he'd done it before. I won't go into the details of the play or that year because it sucked. Maybe another time.
Anyway, I had this friend in the troupe named Autumn (not her real name). She got along well with my other friends and we were a good mini group in the troupe.
So one day we're rehearsing this scene called "the breakup". Basically the scene starts with Girl and Boy. Girl and Boy approach each other from either side of the stage, all lovey dovey. Then they come in for a kiss. Once that happens, they split apart as Boy mimes to Girl that they have to break up and then Boy leaves sadly while Girl is in tears.
Normally, my friend plays Boy and Autumn plays Girl. However, that day my friend was sick and any other boys in the troupe were needed elsewhere. This left me, someone who looked similar enough to my friend, to stage kiss Autumn.
A stage kiss works where Person A has her back to the audience while Person B has his back to the stage background. They lean in and tilt their heads as if they were kissing but they aren't.
Now, I hadn't exactly watched my friend and Autumn run the scene before but I knew how to stage kiss and I wanted my brief subbing to be good. So when I walked onto that stage I was as realistic as I knew how.
Keep in mind I learnt everything from Ao3 and roleplaying online so I had never dated before this.
I was keeping my eyes as soft as I could, and I walked slowly. I have no idea what Autumn saw but I do remember her surprise when it came to the kiss.
I pulled her in close and held a hand gently to her cheek, tilting it towards me as I twisted us into position. Then I swept in. I'll admit, I was pretty quick with how I moved. When I stopped, our noses were touching. I was internally cringing because of how awkward I felt I was being but Autumn's face and ears were bright red and her eyes were literally like saucers.
We completed the scene as normal, with my final sad look as my parting gift before I slipped into the wings and rushed backstage.
Everyone (because pretty much everyone crowds into the wings to watch rehearsals) then proceeded to say "I thought you were actually going to kiss her!"
Then Autumn, still red, confirmed that she thought the same. And then she proceeded to put the final nail in my proverbial coffin by telling me "[friend] never went in that close before and I thought you were actually going to kiss me!"
When I asked friend later, apparently they stay pretty far apart and don't really touch.
If Autumn had leaned into that one, we'd have actually kissed.
So at the end of that day, Autumn couldn't look me in the eyes, I couldn't look Autumn in the eyes (shame) and a few years later I found out that she came out.
I have no proof that I was the one that kick started that. I haven't talked to her in a while. But you know what, maybe I was. Maybe that was the inciting moment.
And I'm fucking proud of myself for it.
TLDR: I rizzed my friend with a fake kiss and now she's gay.

sidenote did anyone else feel really insecure in youth group worship when all the kids who were the resident Best Christians would have their eyes closed and hands up and you're just standing there absolutely not being moved by either the spirit or the christian rock being played and wondering if maybe you should stick your hands up for a bit just so nobody suspects you aren't thinking about jesus hard enough. because that's one of the few concrete youth group memories I have.

Owen Lang
Tumblr media
I am back from the dead, this time with a whole new character!
Meet Owen Lang, the newest addition to what is to be my future webcomic.
Owen is Chinese American; his parents both immigrated some little bit ago. His dad is in the military, meaning this guy has moved around a ton (he lived in Texas before moving to Utah). Lastly, Owen’s mom — Emma Lang — has been struggling with cancer for some time now.
Owen is currently finishing up his 9th grade year in a military school, but will be finishing up highschool at Stormy Terrace. He plays the oboe and flute.
ohohoh. And the best detail: Owen has a cat named Mochi. She’s a Siamese-tabby mix (if that makes sense).
There’s a lot of things with this character that I just won’t ever be able to experience. Please, if anyone seeing this is Chinese American, from a military family, and/or from an immigrant background: I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU.
